[CONTEXT]

Exactly! Akutagawa would be absolutely torn. He refuses to care about Atsushi, yet seeing Dazai "betray" him would make his blood boil. The idea that Dazai is supposed to favor Atsushi, only to be disloyal, is completely unthinkable.

At first, he’d try to brush it off. Why should he care about the jinko’s feelings? But the thought lingers, festering and shimmering like a boiling soup. Then, one day, he sees Dazai shamelessly flirting with some woman (again), and something inside him snaps. He's seething.

Eventually, he just has to say something. He corners Dazai, practically snarling, “How could you humiliate your own subordinate like this?!” Meanwhile, Atsushi, who has no idea what’s going on, just stares, baffled.

What really sells it is Akutagawa’s sheer indignation. If he later catches Atsushi acting normal around Dazai, he might even get angrier, thinking, “He knows, and he’s just accepting this? Pathetic.” He could even start lecturing Atsushi about "not being weak willed in the face of betrayal," which only confuses Atsushi more.

Then enter Chuuya.

Akutagawa, still fuming, decides he needs guidance from someone who actually understands loyalty.

Dazai's WHAT?! If I didn't know she was made in a test tube -which how does that even work- I'd assume dazai was some poor kids deadbeat dad. He really does seems like that type of guy, he always acts really flirty towards women and irresponsible.

Anyways why the hells he leaving a 5 year old with akutagawa after this? I mean I don't know much about kids but I'm pretty sure that's a bad idea. Also, you can't just throw at kid at me, I don't know what to do with one!

Odazai Youkai Au? 🫣

Yeee it's not super detailed but I'll gladly ramble about it!

In essence, it's sort of a feudal japan setting (think Inuyasha) and Oda's a young orphan who becomes a samurai in training, he curiously wanders into a forbidden area of the forest and encounters Dazai, a fox youkai, and the two of them become friends, with Dazai helping him out with various problems he's facing. Eventually tho Oda has to leave as he becomes a fully fletched warrior, and goes to serve a local lord.

When he's older he eventually returns to the forest, but dDazai is nowhere to be found. He eventually learns that the youkai has been captured and bound to the service of someone else, and has to go rescue him for once.

It's pretty vague but I was having fun with the aesthetic, and the idea of a younger Oda meeting older Dazai was interesting to consider.

I am so sorry for the late answer. I've been thinking about this ask for a while now and am half-satisfied with the answer I could come up with. The thing about this (in my opinion) is:

Dazai's reaction would be entirely dependant on how the pedestal crashes down and where he is mentally and in life in general.

As Aya said: You can't achieve the perfection of the dead. And this very much aplies to Dazai's view of Oda. To Dazai Oda is an almost perfect person, he is good despite living in the darkness, he gave up killing and tried to better his life but was bound by circumstances. He is his closest friend and the person that understands him most. We, as the reader, know that this isn't conpletely the case, it is Dazai's flawed and glorified perspection of Oda as a person that causes this opinion of his. Dazai's pedestal crashing down can happen in a multitude of ways and can have a multitude of reactions from Dazai himself. He could understand that his perspective was flawed and slowly adjust his thinking if the understanding was a gradual thing. If small things over a long time made him realize just on how high a pedestal he put Oda and how flawed of a human his friend really was. It could lead to a complete mental breakdown. It could destroy him in a way not seen before for him. It could lead to him just shutting down, reversing to old ways for a while since his goal of a "good person" wasn't what he thought it was. it can go so so many ways, which is what makes the idea so very interesting to me. But what I think will always be included is denial.

On a scale from 1 to 10, how much do you think Dazai wants to touch the tiger

Alright, so I did a little thinking about it, and I came to the conclusion that it would change after a while.

At first, he's not really thinking about necessarily interacting with the tiger. Of course, he's in awe of the pure presence of that form. Yet he prefers the softer moments with him, cupping his face, brushing his hair, hugging, or latching onto him in any way possible. That's where the scale would be around 3-4.

But that changes when he sees Tiger Atsushi interacting with others, cuddling up to them. Suddenly, jealousy hits him. Now he does crave to touch the untamed side of Atsushi, to run his fingers through the fur, to look straight into the slitted eyes that, despite there being no real danger, still make him shiver. The score straight up shoots up to 9-10.

Though, thinking even outside of it, Dazai with a tiger would be a menace (if his ability did not work on him, of course). I bet he would find any excuse in the book to drop himself on him, just to get his face pressed against the fur and make him drag him along whenever.

What do you think of canon Mori?

Hmmm okay so this is a tricky one.

I make him the "villain" in a lot of my fics as you may have noticed but it's a little more complicated than that. Please keep in mind I haven't rewatched the full show in a while so I may miss things.

I think that he is capable of most of the things I've written him doing, but we really don't know a whole lot about him (like a lot of the characters unfortunately). So it wouldn't be unreasonable to say that he is very capable of doing horrendous things or he's not. He is a Mafia boss and he very likely had to do a lot of awful things beyond what we've seen to get where he is but in the context of the show that's not anything we haven't seen before (*cough* Dazai *cough*).

Additionally, I was speaking to a friend about it and she told me there was a large mistranslation error with some of his incredibly inappropriate and unacceptable lines. I don't know how true this is or what the real translation is. If the dubbed translation in the show is correct I obviously do not condone it in any shape form or fashion. However I think a mistranslation is possible and that makes him less of a terrible person and more of an interesting character.

Another note, is I read somewhere a while ago(I can't remember where or who said it otherwise I would link it) where someone mentioned that Mori has a very believable sort of intelligence. So in a show that is full of Dazai and Ranpo and Fyodor, who are each incredibly and unrealistically smart, it is sort of refreshing to see a character who is smart and strategic but it is very real and believable. It made me appreciate him as a character and a leader a little bit more and not completely despise him.

So yeah basically there are obviously the things he says that could be a mistranslation and that's shitty(again I in no way condone anything like that). Looking at him as a character, he can definitely be cruel but I find his more believable strategic qualities interesting. But he's still such an easy villain to write so I'll probably keep doing that lol. And again we don't see a whole lot of him so these judgements could very well be null and void if we learn more about him. .
