how to *actually* prepare for back to school

ok so i go back to school v soon (august 7th to be exact) and here are some of my tips that i use to help prepare myself for going back to school.

start your routine. now. at least a week before your first day of school, get into your routine. get up when you’re supposed to and go to bed when you should (11 for me at the latest). as for the “school day,” busy yourself with reading, playing video games, working, the like. but try to get home when you would from school and kinda pretend like you’re back in school and “do homework” or workout or whatever you would do when you get home. starting that routine now will make it soooo much easier when the school year actually starts

figure out how much sleep you need to function and fix your sleep schedule. do i have to explain this one??? just don’t stay up until 2am the night before you’re first day of school because you’ll be screwed for the rest of the year :)

get your supplies. ok this one is a given. whether you’re paperless or not, get at least a folder to keep stray papers. i would also recommend having a separate folder just for lined paper bc you never know when you need it and idk about you but i hate ripping papers out of notebooks

get new clothes. you don’t necessarily ~have~ to do this one but it’s nice to have a semi-new wardrobe before you head back to school. when i wear something new, i feel more confident and i’m more excited for the day so it kinda makes me excited to go to school. 

pick out your outfits for the first week. this relates to getting new clothes. i like doing this (every week) because it’s one less thing i have to do/think about in the morning. plus it should make you excited for going to school because you get to wear your (hopefully) new clothes.

get your food!! i bring my lunch to school every day (yup, 180 days a year times 12) so before that first day rolls around, get some food for your lunch! whether that be a nice drink, some snacks, a fancy salad, or the like, just get it because it will also make you more excited for school

whiten your teeth. gotta have those nice pearly whites when school starts to show every how you glowed up over the summer

speaking of glowing up...skincare!!!! having clear skin makes everyone so much more confident so make that first day so much better by having clear skin. you won’t feel nearly as self-conscious and you’ll actually (maybe) enjoy the day. 

set out everything the night before. again, makes your mornings *that* much easier/better so you won’t be running late

have a positive attitude. yes it’s school and no one really likes going back to school but try to have a positive attitude about it. you’re one year closer to graduating, it’s a fresh start, you get to meet new friends, (hopefully) you’re taking classes you enjoy, and you’re getting back into a routine. yes school can be very stressful but hopefully, if you follow some of the tips above, it won’t be as stressful as it could be.

Back to school (Anti)haul and tips

Hello there! Yes this is my whole bts haul. It consists entirelly of:

New black ink

A bookstand

A bottle cleaner

Two new succulents (the bottom ones)

Because usually, you don‘t really need as much stuff as you buy at the beginning of a new school year. This year I wanted to focus on this, because I used to buy a lot of stationary at the start of a new schoolyear and many other studyblrs do the same. So here are some tips on how to avoid that this year and also save some money:

Sort trough your stuff from last year and sort out carefully: Are you sure that pencil is to short to use again? Is that folder really broken or does it just habe a few unaesthetic fold marks? Can you repair this with some Gaffa (our lord and saviour) instead of throwing it away? Are you really shure you won‘t need that again?

Write a list on what you will need next year and don‘t yet have. Important while doing this: Do you really need this or is it just for aesthetic purposes? Do you really need to buy this now or can it wait? Stationery is usually more expensive at the start of a schoolyear than later on. Also some of the things you needed last year may not even need to be replased because you won‘t need them in the next schoolyear. Do you not have any of it left? I know it‘s easy to buy replacements when you are shure something will run out soon. But most things don‘t run out as soon as we expect them to. I would only advise you to have one replacement of things that you run out of and can‘t go a day without (for example ink)

Check if you can get it used! This can mean multiple things. As a first step I advise you to ask friends and family: I am getting multiple folders from a friend who just finished school. This saved me money and the environment resources. Win win! I also noticed that my mom already had a hole puncher we coud share .Then check if there are any second hand or thrift shops in your area. There you might get many multiple use things like folders, bookstands, sharpenes etc... If there‘s still stuff on your list, then it‘s time to go shopping!

Buy in shops not online! This is especially important from a social and ecological standpoint. Buying in your town or area strenghtens the local shops instead of giving money to huge companies (please don‘t buy at amazon guys, just google all the shit they do as a company) Also you can avoid a lot of packaging while buying in rl (I will come back to this). You can also compare prizes and sizes better than in an online shop.

Don‘t buy things because they’re from a special brand! I know this is hard for many studyblrs to hear, but a product is not just better because it has a brand on it. Look out for things where the price you pay is for quality and not just brand (counts for everything in life, not just stationery)

Look out for reusable and quality products! Plastic free if possible! This is good for nature and your wallet! Reusable things might be a little more expensive at the start, but they will last you much longer, and in the end you will have saved money. Avoid plastic if possible, and inform youself how to replace markers, rulers, pens and more in a plastic free way. Yes that make take sone time, but it‘s so worth it. We sll want to live on this earth without it being covered in plastic! In calendars and college blocks keep an eye out for recycelt products. The paper will not be as white and aesthetic, but it‘s really not that much of a difference and also cheaper.

Buy something that brings you joy! I suggest a plant, but it could also be that more expensive violet ink, or the beautiful mug you spottet in the shop. It should be something that can motivate you the whole year round.

I know not all of this is possible for everyone. Especially if you don’t live near a city, buying in shops will be hard, and maybe your city doesn’t offer a lot of plastic free options. But we need to stop romanticizing hauls. They are not a good thing. Yes, sometimes we need to buy new things. But some people buy whole baskets of things they don‘t really need, made by underpaid workers in a not environmentally good way. Let‘s pleace stop celebrating this.

30 Day Back to School Challenge [ Days 1,2&3 ]

Hey guys! So @universi-tea made this really cool challenge and I thought I’d try it out! I will be doing a couple a day instead of one because I go on holiday next week so I won’t be able to post for two weeks :( I start school on September 3rd and I’m going to post these on the lead up to that.

#1 Goals for the semester? My goals for this semester are to try my hardest in every subject and not give up easily as well as to try and stay up to date and ask for help when I need it. Hopefully I manage to achieve at least one of these things!

#2 What are you excited about? Honestly, I’m most excited about getting to use my new bag and stationary, that’s definitely my favourite part about back to school! I’ve finally figured out how to stop myself from procrastinating!! (it took fourteen years but i did it) so I can’t wait to come home from school and... are you ready for this? ACTUALLY DO MY HOMEWORK! It’s revolutionary I know but somebody had to go there.

#3 What’s in your bag? I’m going to be filming a video once all the stuff I order for bts arrives and I’ll go into more detail once I post that. I got a really cute planner that was really cheap and I’m going to be using it to write in all of my homework and tests in etc because the planners our school provides us with aren’t very good. A staple in my bag is a plastic folder because I always get loads of pieces of paper and I have having them screwed up at the bottom but sometimes I can’t hole-punch them. It doesn’t take up much space and comes in very useful! One thing that definitely won’t be going into my bag this year is my lunch box - last year I had a really cute bag but my lunch leaked on Friday and I didn’t notice until Monday and it had gone all mouldy and gross and it was very annoying! This year I’m going to wrap my lunchbox in a bag and then put it in my locker in the morning because I don’t want the same thing to happen to my new bag :(
