Y'know, I think True Hearts Day was a good story, but that doesn't make me not want to improve it.

Firstly, Hunter's role. This is my biggest issue with THD. He should've been more active. Up until that point, he seemed to be following his destinies as the huntsman. The only claim he has as a rebel is siding with Raven in the food fight and being vegetarian. Also, Hunter is a big part of the Snow White story. If not for the Huntsman, Snow White would never find the dwarves. But Apple focuses more on Ashlynn than her own story, which is ooc, bc being Snow White is Apple's main motivation. She never seems that worried Hunter is going against his destinies(yes plural. He's also in Red Riding Hood)

In THD, he's barely there. We get him and Ashlynn getting caught, Gunter Guntsman, and the big reveal. There's no reason he's not with Ash in the book end, but he's missing from when they come out until when they break up. And I know, it's a girls show, why focus on the boy? But relationships take at least two people. And the break-up scene really shows how static he's been. Hunter is doing what he'd do for their dates in the forest, but Ashlynn's acting different, bc she's the only one who had development.

To improve this, I say Apple talks to Hunter after the reveal about destiny, bc it's bad enough Raven won't be evil, but Hunter too? Her talk isnt as effective on him as it is Ashlynn, bc he's not close to Apple like his gf is. But he thinks of how dating Ash changes his story. Hunter is talks to Cerise in the forest, who supports it, hinting to her dad's identity, which he misses. The next day, Hunter is excited to see Ash, but less grand gesture-y about it. Instead of a picture frame and flower path, he walks up to her and gives her a flower crown. The break-up ensues and she gives back the flower crown. Ashlynn considers not going to the dance, but Briar won't have that. Longing looks at the dance, Ashlynn confesses, Hunter accepts, and they're together.

Ok, that's the big one.

Next, the love triangle. My beef here is how all of them lose their personality in this plotline. Cupid, who is about the journey of love and taking your time, basically yells about her crush in a library. Dexter, who is very tech involved, says who his crush is on a live broadcast without a voice modifier. Raven, who always believes there is more than what meets the eye jumps to a conclusion and sticks with it. Like all of their personalities had a downgrade. Though I do like Dexter and Cupid's dynamic in THD. The idea that Dexter sees the book about True Hearts Day and knows it's right up Cupid's alley is cute. My biggest issue is Raven's personality shift. I firmly believe Raven should've been far more confused at the idea of Daring giving her a love note. He's a royal, and believed to be Apple's future prince.

I would improve this by Raven deciding the note is a prank from Daring, and Dexter's not sure what's worse, her thinking it's from Daring, or a prank. Raven confronts Daring at school the next day, bc she wants to dismiss it asap, and realizes it has nothing to do with him. So Raven knows it's real, and realizes as she's getting ready "oh. How did I forget Dexter is a Charming?" She tries to calm down, and looks for Dexter at the dance, but he's hiding, trying to gather enough nerve to confess, sees her, and loses all of it. Dexter decides it's hopeless, and sits down to mourn his bad luck. Cupid, who has finally caught a break, sits down and helps cheer him up, which Raven sees and believes she's too late. She and Maddie spend the rest of the dance hanging out. And it's left open ended.

Next, duchess(and sparrow). If I hadn't read the books and known Duchess's motives are bc she wants a story where she doesn't die as a swan, I'd be very confused. All I'd change is in her chat with Ashlynn to mention that she wants to actually see her own happily ever after like Ashlynn has. But it still backfires. And it's also never explained why Duchess and Sparrow are friends to start with. I like the dynamic they have, but a line of how they became friends would probably help given the clashing aesthetics. Like maybe Sparrow and the merry men sometimes have to play for dance class, so he and Duchess had a similar goal for it, and became friends? Idk.

Last but not least, Lizzie should have been stealing any of the heart-shaped decorations shown from cupid, hopper, and briar bc hearts are her whole thing

I rarely make tumblr posts, but I am so infuriated by this situation I need to say something about it.

Five Hargreeves, who spent 45 years alone in a post-apocalyptic world, and every single moment of his life since was spent trying to get back to his family. The Five who ran himself dry for 2 weeks straight trying to stop the end of the world, and reunite his family. The Five who slaughtered an entire board of directors just to ensure him family's safety. Who turned back time himself, while bleeding out on the floor, just to save his siblings. You're telling me, that the Five whose entire motivation for living was once saving his family, is the same Five, who in s4 has entirely given up, and in the Subway is the one trying to convince Lila to stop looking after 6 and a half years? The Five who never once stopped trying to return to his family in all 45 years of surviving alone, decides to settle down in a greenhouse and live out a cottagecore life?

Furthermore, the same Five who told Lila that Diego loved her, who reassured his brother that his wife wasn't cheating on him and loved him dearly, the same Five who got on with Lila only due to the fact that they both cared for and loved Diego, the person they had in common, is the same Five who stole his brother's wife, whom he had three children with, just because the writers were excited that Aidan Gallagher was finally legal?

Five who hated authority, who despised when people gave him commands, who wanted nothing more than to retire in s3, is now working for the CIA and willingly calling his boss, 'sir'?

Five who used to be so paranoid and suspicious of everyone and everything, who used to solve problems alone and came to epiphanies that saved the world, who didn't even trust a past version of himself, also didn't realise that his boss of many years had an umbrella tattooed on his wrist?

Everything that once stood out about his character is now gone, as if the writers themselves entirely forgot about his existence until the last moment, and added him in as an afterthought, without thinking of the effect he would have on the story.

Nya has the best writing out of anyone in skybound an I will not hear otherwise

(this is just a rant but I will finish my argument with evidence soon but I was feeling like yelling at phone)

Just watched a video completely butchering her character.

I’m fuming about Nya’s treatment in general like RRRRR SHE IS LIKE THE BEST WRITTEN. Most people I see talk about her never tried to see Nya’s motivation.

And because she’s grumpy and won’t take bullshit treatment. And a large part of the audience Treat her like she’s a brat for it like…

Her ark against all odds is great. The only reason so many people don’t get that is ALL because of the awful framing and them focusing on Jay at all the wrong times I PROMISE YOU.

The audience is made to focus on Jay’s feelings in moments that should’ve been about her.

Nya always thought she would end up with Jay like she said later on. She always loved him She wasn’t trying to hurt or play with his feelings but she had bigger problems, and she simply didn’t want to be dating him. Because she hated how that would make her be perceived. Which was the issues that she overcame by the end.

She is frustrated by way she’s perceived by the city. They only see her as her gender. A self insert of sorts. (There’s a scene about it first ep subtle but boils my blood) Not a person. She HATES IT.

Nya has A lot more going on like it was never her Job to walk on eggshells around Jays feelings. She was having a lot harder of a time that first episode but more screen time was dedicated to Jays moping about her.

Okay, now that everybody's had some time to process and gotten some of the doomposting out, here's my thoughts on the whole situation.

First of all, I'm not really worried about whether or not RWBY will continue in some capacity. It's uncertain, sure, but no more than it was already. In February we got the update that they were talking to potential partners about getting volume 10 made, so clearly they weren't just relying on Rooster Teeth and Warner Brothers for it - maybe one of those companies will pick it up, maybe a different company will, either way I'm sure it *will* be picked up by somebody and unless they get real unlucky, the show won't be much worse off than it was before - if anything it might be better off, considering that WB have been shitty about animation for quite a while now (if you're not already familiar and you're up for some extra research, I recommend looking into the Coyote vs ACME situation that's been going on recently for a great example of WB's bullshit). And while it's unclear exactly how much involvement the original crew will have in the show's future, I'm pretty optimistic about it. I doubt the writers are going to let go of creative control without a fight, if for nothing else then for Monty - I don't like focusing too much on the whole Monty's Legacy stuff in general, but I do think that the crew are going to want to keep their friend's work alive and authentic and as accurate to what he wanted it to be as possible. None of this is a certainty of course, but I think RWBY is gonna be fine, things will just be kinda rocky for a bit.

With all that being said, while this may end up ultimately being a blessing in disguise for RWBY as a franchise, it sure ain't one for everybody who worked at Rooster Teeth. This entire situation is still horrible - so many people being fired on the spot, effective immediately, with no warning and with several of them only finding out by seeing articles about it being posted on Twitter, it's fucked. I know Rooster Teeth wasn't exactly lacking in controversy and problematic behaviour, to put it lightly, but there were still plenty of amazing people there who are now in a really shitty situation. On top of that, while again this isn't exactly anything new, especially for WB, it is the latest instance of a huge problem in the animation and entertainment industries. So no matter how things pan out for RWBY, we should still be really fucking mad about this.

And we definitely shouldn't be celebrating. I've seen some posts saying "good riddance" and celebrating RT's downfall, not just from people who hate RWBY (I mean don't get me wrong I'm sure the hatedom is out in full force but that's not the kind of thing I'm referring to right now), but people who like/used to like the show and just hated the company. And don't get me wrong, I didn't like a lot of things about the company either, I've actually been wanting RWBY to separate itself from RT for a pretty long time (be careful what you wish for I guess 💀), but there's a time and a place and this certainly ain't it. Plenty of people who have worked there have said that they loved their jobs, plenty of others said it was horrible and toxic and nightmarish, but either way a job is a job and in this industry work isn't always easy to find, especially in recent years. Celebrate in private if you want, but now is not the damn time to be bringing out the cake and confetti.

TLDR; I'm cautiously optimistic about RWBY's future, I'm pretty sure it'll be fine and they'll be able to keep the core crew to at least some extent, but this is still a really bad situation for everybody who just lost their jobs, don't be a dick.
