i really enjoy visual novels, but for lack of a better term i sort of feel like ive only played the already super popular ones - do you have any that you really love that you feel dont get recommended enough?

This is the one I'm gonna lead with because its short and its amazing. One of the most genuine stories that gets really gnarly at points so make sure to check the content warnings but this one desperately needs to be read more because it fucking gets it and made me feel really seen. If you can handle a slow start, its my favorite visual novel of all time. Best cast ever I've spent months and months of my life talking about and I always find new things to notice or discuss. Ghostpia by room6

Its episodic and teeechnically not done yet but i think you get a satisfying and damn excellent story with whats here. what else has presentation like this!! its so stylish and looks incredible and always keeps me hooked! A Summer's End - Hong Kong 1986 by Oracle and Bone

Took me a bit to get into the art style but the CGs are really pretty and its really sweet! It uses its time period in a far stronger way than just aesthetic and background. I like the directions it takes. Private Eye Dol by Hunex (PC Engine CD)

Extremely impressive mystery game for the time with damn good direction. More of a traditional adventure game than a visual novel but I think if you like them you'll like this. If you're short on time the first case is the best one imo so you can just play that one

I have to say that I’m honestly just in disbelief that people are still NOT talking about Emily Sonnett on their post-game coverage and what she did for the team. I get it. We lost, so it’s not like that’s the first thing they’re going to say. But it’s sad to me.

oh lord, dear anon. you’ve just opened the can of worms i’ve been trying to keep shut lmao. i have a lot of feelings about this, but i’m just going to let them fly because i have to let them go.

i couldn’t agree with you more. it’s a damn shame that there’s, in some cases, a real lack of zooming out on these shows/podcasts/interviews/whatever. yes, we lost, but i think that the emphasis ive appreciated in some of the ones i’ve listened to/watched so far is that this team is going towards the future. and i think sonnett 100% deserves to be a part of that conversation. she had the absolute game of her life yesterday in terms of her national team career, and while it’ll be a difficult moment to look back on i’m sure, nobody can take that away from her. her leadership on the field - i will bang my drum talking about how you could hear her screaming on the field forever, not because of the act but because of what it means that she was calling for what needed to go down - and her ability to read that game and what had to get done deserves more praise, even though i hope to god that none of the players are on socials right now and will never hear the fresh noise, good or bad.

in my opinion, sonnett was the best centerback in the league in 2021. for the national team, she’s played almost every version of a position on the back line. she’d barely played midfield for the team before yesterday. she’s subbed in during crazy moments, good moments, terrible moments. she started in one of the biggest games for the history of the uswnt yesterday, and she did the damn thing. her career has not been easy (if you haven’t, take a look at the sam and sonnett swatch watch story, it gave me great insight into the ideas of hard work and dedication but also a really poignant (though brief) overview of what makes sonnett great, and her and sam’s friendship), nor has she gotten her flowers, nor was she set up to succeed, but like tobin said, she fucking did anyway. i hope with time things will change. i firmly believe that from what we’ve seen she’ll go down as one of the best teammates the wnt has ever seen. that list is likely neither ranked nor exclusive by any means and it’s definitely not short. but it’s still true. and honestly, i think that if julie really is retiring, sonnett may have just carved out a home for herself in the six. if we’re lucky, we may even see her and sunny in a continued double pivot role at times, depending on what a game calls for. i can only hope.

What’s going on in project sekai. You make it looks so interesting!

oh uhhhh well. before you get your hopes up some of the stuff i drew is just edgy aus i made with a friend theres no blood or magical girl stuff its mostly just teenager drama. but anyway heres the deal

(disclaimer it is a mobile gacha game and those are predatory and addictive etc so yknow uh. use caution. imo though its extremely playable without having to pay any extra money)

project sekai/colorful stage is a vocaloid rhythm game where you unlock visual novel style stories about five different teen music groups who work through various problems and issues.... and also hatsune miku and her friends are there to mentor them. its got tons of vocaloid songs to play through, most with covers by the voice actors of the cast if you so choose, as well as a lot of songs made for the game, and even if you dont read the story stuff its just a really fun rhythm game. i play it basically every day lol

the groups are as follows:

-leo/need is four estranged childhood friends who desperately want to be together again but have to work through their highschool drama first, through starting a rock band

-(i havent actually read through more more jump or vivid bad squad so i cant give a good summary but theyre an idol group and street musicians respectively)

-wonderlandsxshowtime is a ragtag little group of clowns attempting to revive an old themepark stage and become famous as a theater troupe, with lots of goofs and hijinks

-nightcord at 25:00 is my favorite group and the one ive done the most art for, theyre the only ones who are already an established band at the beginning of their story and theyre actually doing pretty well in terms of making music and gaining popularity, the issue is theyre all suicidal and have massive psychological problems. the main story focuses mostly on when one of the girls decides to, yknow, "disappear", and the others have to come together to try and save her. as you can probably tell theyre the group with the darkest story by far but also the best in my opinion. theyre so fucked up and i love them. also one of the members is (canonically) transfem nb so thats cool

so if any of that sounds interesting, give it a shot i guess?? i feel weird encouraging my follower base to play a gacha game lol so just be mindful. i started playing it just bc its a vocaloid rhythm game and im not good at project diva and i didnt really expect to get invested in the new characters but here i am. its also introduced me to a lot of voca songs i didnt know before which is always a plus!

now for your question i guess my biggest tip would really just be to treat tears of themis like a visual novel that just so happens to update with more stories.

idk how much of a newbie you are to this genre, but when i got into this game i had NEVER played any other otome before in my life. so it was all new to me!! and i basically treated it like an updating visual novel, this is My Method, and that got me quite invested (as is obvious from my entire blog). so when i say "treat it like a visual novel" i mean:

im personally not particularly a card completionist or a gacha enthusiast. which, hell yeah, this game wont bankrupt me LOL. but also, since cards are the main way where new nxx boy stories are released through, for any card i dont have, i just watch it on youtube. because basically every card, event plot, minigame, etc gets uploaded by someone a little bit after its release. so if youre bummed you missed an event card but you dont really Want the card, you just want its story, just search it on youtube!! search [card name/event name] + [whichever language dub you prefer] + tears of themis and voila! new story for you to read!!!

if you want plot = read Main Story. this is where all the heavy main plot happens and it is SO GRIPPING AND RIVETING.

if you want character development and relationship development between mc and each boy = read Personal Story Bloom Chapter, and then the respective nxx boy's Anniversary 1 card, Personal Story Sweet Chapter 1 and 2, and then the respective nxx boy's Anniversary 2 card. the personal story routes (aka the routes where mc eventually ends up with the boy romantically) are where a BULK of characterization and character development happens, imo

if you want romance and oneshot dates = explore the available cards!!! the tot wiki has an archive of all the available cards per boy on each of the characters' main pages. for example, here's luke's page. scroll down to the cards section and Behold. Luke Stories As Far As The Eye Can See

these pages dont have the story transcribed in them, but theyre great to use as a directory or a map of cards. so if any of the cards catch your eye, then take urself to youtube to find the card and voila (again)! new story for u to experience!

(note: SSRs always have a full 6 act story. SRs either have a 6 act story that is unvoiced, OR 2 voice messages. MRs always have 2 voice messages. R cards have no story and no voice messages)

if you want nxx team dynamics = read and/or play the events!!!! this is my favorite thing, the tot events are a treasure trove of fun cases and awesome team dynamics. in the game itself, some of the big events are available as DLC for anybody to play themselves at any time. to get there, X-NOTE Story -> lower and rightmost button Event -> upper and rightmost button Past.

if theres anything i would reccommend the MOST, itd be to download and pllay the event Mysteries of the Lost Gold. it's so good. it's my favorite event story. trust me on this

Metroid Prime Review

I played Metroid Prime. It was incredible.

Retro Studios perfectly translated Metroid game design into 3D, with a satisfyingly complex non-linear map, and puzzles that feel more alien than any Metroid I’ve played so far.

The environment design and atmosphere are some of the best I’ve ever seen. Every single region and room on Tallon IV is gorgeous and fun to explore, and collecting upgrades is just as satisfying as the 2D games. The graphics are amazing, with awesome lighting, and cool details like seeing rain droplets on Samus’ visor, or even her own reflection.

I got used to pressing R to aim decently quick, and after a while it became second nature. Plus with the lock-on it’s really not a problem. The sidestep dodge is fun, too, and the bosses are very challenging but rewarding.

The story is also wonderfully fantastical, with some really cool sci-fi ideas, and some very disturbing content for a first-party Nintendo game. I love how you collect pieces of the backstory through documents, like a traditional horror game.

Kenji Yamamoto and Kouichi Kyuma’s music is mind-blowing. It’s officially dethroned Super as my favorite soundtrack in the franchise I’ve heard so far. The synths are sweeping and beautiful, the grooves are badass, the melodies are fantastic. It’s perfect. In fact, this entire game is perfect. A total masterpiece. I can’t stop gushing about it enough. I’m almost completely sure it’s my new favorite Metroid.

yo, having 6k in chapter 3 is amazing. good for you!

my first playthrough i got the white arabian and i named her Lemoyne Tree as a tribute to the state of Lemoyne and my favorite post malone song Lemon Tree. But she always got super dirty so i then went to the lake next to Strawberry and tamed the red chestnut arabian. I LOVE LOVE LOVE that one, she's gorgeous and arthur always gets that one when i play it. my beautiful baby girl Diablo <3

also yes. heckin FUCK MICAH BELL. even from the beginning he's been a slime ball. hate that man <3

i won't go too far, but just keep yourself high honor towards the end of the game. you need that to be your first ending. :')

Charles deserves the absolute world. just listening to him speak and hanging out with him at camp, and the missions you continue on to do with him throughout the game are so much fun. charles is someone i wish i could have in my real life because he seems like he would be the best person to speak to and hang out with. he is so lovely and down to earth. even arthur says it a couple times throughout the game. charles gets a good ending i promise.

Summary: (slight rant) life has been currently doing bits but we move! Anywho, breaking out the writing slump with amazing one shot ideas given to me, but would've been miles too long for one piece so now its in two segments. The stories follow up one another . Why are they called different things! I don't know I just felt like it and the jewel theme flowed following from "Emerald' which has the same vibe . Right also whilst this is a "Draco" one shot due to the nature of story so far I've not mentioned him by name...so if there's another blonde antagonist you fancy you could make that him lol.

I think "Ruby" (the continuation) is my fave of the two but you can decide for yourself. However don't play yourself and read both! . You'll thank me later for it lol! Cause tbh the best part about a good smut is the buildup!

Time  seems to have this terrible habit of fleeting once it comes to  doing the things you love. But somehow it manages to come to a complete standstill when you’re somewhere you’d much rather not be. This was now the case for Y/n . Time was moving painstakingly slow , what had been only forty minutes had felt more equivalent to forty hours. She knew it a dramatic comparison yes.. but she couldn’t even pretend anymore  . Everything about this place sucked the life from her. Anxiously she sent a stream of texts to her friend Lucy alluding to leaving but she had yet to receive a response . Just then her phone pinged . Racing to read it she was sourly disappointed as Lucy made it abundantly clear she had no desire to leave anytime soon. Letting out a defeated groan she slumped back down into the crushed velvet settee. 

She had consumed a fairly large quantity of various drinks on offer but it wasn’t having the impact she so desired. It appeared the drunk stage was to be skipped altogether but the dull headache was to be welcomed with open arms. It wasn’t that she didn’t enjoy a good night out .  In fact she was particularly fond of them. It was just in simple terms tonight was .. well boring . Ever since they moved further afield and with Lucy starting a new job she was promptly recruited by a group of affluent socialites, and  their idea of fun was vastly different  from Y/ns and Lucys . As irksome as it was for y/n  she knew it was important for Lucy to make good impressions. So she set aside her reservations and traded in her wholesome fun filled nights for dimly lit swanky clubs with overpriced cocktails and vapid conversations.

The posse consisted of a fairly large group of both men and women , and much like any posse its incomplete without its ringleader .Y/n made it  exceptionally clear from the beginning  she had no desire of befriending the appointed ringleader who she found to be rather insufferable. As luck would have it the distaste for one another was mutual . So it came as no shock that she was to be ostracised from the group. Fortunately for Y/n she  remained  unfazed by these sort of ludicrous mind games, she could rest assured it wouldn’t be too long before her and Lucy would be in their kitchen laughing mockingly about them over a cup of tea .Fed up of the  doom scrolling she flung her phone into her  clutch and fastened the clasp. She was ready to call it a night, but she would find Lucy first and let her know. 

From across the room a man seemed to be peering at her from over his drink. From what y/n could see he was fairly tall with a broad frame encased in a black suit . The retched dim lights made it hard for her to notice any distinguishable features such as an eye colour perhaps but she did notice how icy blonde his hair was and how it was an absolute contrast against the sharp black suit. Despite the group surrounding him his interests did not lay with them his eyes fixated oh her. Overall intrigued at his unwavering eye contact she decided to shimmy closer. After all she intended to go in that direction to find Lucy. 

Upon closer inspection he appeared to be scowling , donning a look of disgust as if a bad stench rest under his nose. Bamboozled and quite petered she returned the glare with an eye roll for added embellishment  . Despite her retaliation he remained glaring , As she was closer now  she could now make out a his pale coloured eyes narrowing in on her scanning her up and down. What an earth is his problem! she thought, y/n had never seen this man before  so he had no right to be to so uncivil towards her, and if he were for some odd reason to have an issue she’d rather he be vocal about it. She wasn’t going to yell at him and cause a scene obviously , but she had little tolerance for this uncalled behaviour and wasn’t going to be made to feel like she did. Tossing her hair to the side she stormed pass him ensuring to curtly brush pass his shoulder, and make her way to Lucy. 

“In the infamous words of Kylie Jenner … rise and shine”  bellowed y/n as she tugged open Lucys curtains . Lucy violently tossed around cocooning herself in her duvet , attempting to shield her eyes from the sudden burst of sunlight flooding the room. “You dick , shut them now before I scalp you” she hissed. “Well aren’t you pleasant this morning” y/n laughed “ I heard you tumble in early this morning . How did it end up going last night ? ” Asked y/n handing Lucy a mug of tea. “Oh god, it was eventful for sure I’ll fill you in once I don’t feel as rough as fuck”. Y/n sniggered “Well a cocktail of drugs and alcohol will do that to you … but once I'm back I'm ready for the latest instalment of gossip!”

Y/n knew despite their appalling choices for nights out they were never short of drama usually instigated by someones idle gossiping. “Where you going ?” Lucy asked wearily. “Im off for a run first then, then I have that doctors appointment”. “Oh yeah you finally changed doctors , right well I’ll  see you later now close the curtains before you leave. If you want me to function properly I need a few hours to myself in a dark room”. “Yea yeah “ y/n chuckled as she walked back over to the other side of the room drawing the curtains. “Oh and on your way back feel free to pick me up a Maccies , thanks babes.” Giggled Lucy as she cosied up into her fortress of pillows. Y/n tossed her a playful glare as she headed out the door.

Y/n was finding it difficult to get into her rhythm with running. The lush green pastures and woods to run in were plentiful,  but she was yet to procure that perfect route. Y/n had overheard some locals saying there was a decent running spot nearby her house that veered off into the woods , so she was determined to give it a go today. Once she got into the woods it seemed to stretch for miles . Not wanting to run the risk of getting lost, she opted to keep tabs on the maps on her phone. As her attention was now on wrestling her phone from its holster and not on the path ahead it was no surprise when she collided head first into something. The force in which she hit the object caused her to ricochet off it. Fortunately for her there was a hand that found her wrist and firmly jolted her back to her feet.  “God , you really are just permanently glued to that damn phone!” came a deep voice.

Y/n looked up and gawped at the rude man who stood before her . The collision had knocked her for six and she had yet to come to her senses but she was adamant she’d seen him before. Thats when it dawned on her , the large frame ,  broad shoulders and pale eyes . But what had made it all come together was the tufts of ice blonde hair sticking out from underneath his baseball cap. Y/n immediately straightened up and placed her hands onto her hips. “Ahhh you’re that twat who was staring at me last night”. The blonde stranger cocked his head and once again his eyes bore into her with their  judgmental gaze. “Twat .. excuse me .. I should just let you eat the dirt you ungrateful shit”. Y/ns eyebrows shot up , she should’ve know he would’ve been the type to retaliate. “Well maybe you should’ve .. Id rather that than have you pass judgment about me or my phone habits”. The blonde stepped closer to y/n with his arms folded against his chest. Y/n could get a better look at him now, make out all his distinguishable features . Much to her infuriation he was rather handsome and the long sleeve shirt he had on was  on the tight side allowing the outline of his muscles to protrude. 

“Is this the part where you flip your hair and brush past me again , you don’t have to do all that next time if you’re wanting my attention darling”. “Attention” roared y/n mimicking his stance. “Don’t flatter yourself darling , God you're juvenile .. can’t communicate your feelings instead you bully the girls you’re interested in pathetic”. The blondes whole demeanour shifted . He unfurled his hands from his chest and began striding  towards y/n causing her to back into a tree. “You may of not wanted my attention but you sure as hell have it now … go on tell me more about how pathetic I am .. I dare you”. He snarled into the crook of her neck.  Y/ns pulse was erratic as his lip grazed her ear as he turned to look at her face. “Fuck you” y/n croaked. His eyes fell to her lips as he sported a sultry smirk. “Your place or mine darling” . “Ugh , no thank you I’d rather spare myself the disappointment” scoffed y/n  “Ouch” he placed his hand on his chest feigning upset . “Ill try not to take it to heart .. but if I remember rightly you assumed I was the one interested in you. “Im interested in you leaving me alone” she snapped .

With eyes still fixated on her lips he replied “Fine have it your way you little brat, maybe if you’d been fucked properly you wouldn’t be so uptight”. “Pssh ,You couldn’t make me cum even if your life depended on it”. “You sure about that sweetheart” he retorted sharply . “Try me!” .There was a devious gleam in his eye and with a swift movement he swivelled y/n so she faced the tree . His arm placed above her resting on it whilst his other arm wrapped around her middle. “If you want to act like a brat thats fine .. but be prepared for me to fuck you like one…” “go on tell me you want me right now and I'm all yours if not I'm leaving ”. The tension was palpable , The cool gravelly tone of his voice made y/ns blood run  with ferocity. Y/n could feel herself begin to buckle under his body weight . Moments ago she despised this arrogant blonde but there was something exhilarating about being taut against a tree deep in the woods by a handsome stranger. “Im waiting” . Acknowledging his responsiveness to antagonistic behaviour y/n replied mischievously with “Talk is cheap, lets see what you can really do” .

That appeared to be enough ammunition for him. He let out a hearty chuckled as he slammed her further up against the tree. Kicking apart her legs to his hand around her middle now crept into the waistband of her leggings and began to delve deeper “Are you not wearing any underwear … naughty girl” he groaned upon his discovery. Y/n let out a light chuckle as she began to moan against his teasing  touches. “Tell me have ever been  fucked against a tree hmm” just as she was about to reply he had penetrated her with his fingers. Y/ns head flayed backwards with a loud gasp at the sudden intrusion. She hadn’t had a chance to look at his hands but by the sensation of his fingers its clear they were fairly large.

A Brief Overview of some of the Best Video Games I Played this Year

Aight, so I played a lot of video games this year. Big surprise. I did play Armored Core 6, and Sekiro, and Dave the Diver, and Super Mario Wonder, and Tears of the Kingdom. but you’ve heard of all those. You don’t need to hear about them again. For clarification this is about games I played for the first time this year. Not games that necessarily came out this year. In no particular order

1.Rhythm Doctor

Single button rhythm game. Far harder than it sounds. Excellent music, excellent gameplay, excellent story. Go check it out! Seriously.

2.Atomicrops

Twinstick shooter and farming sim hybrid. I got ridiculously addicted to this. Damn amazing game, good for the adhd. Very tight gameplay loop.

3. Shotgun King

Chess rougelike where you are a king with a shotgun. Actually quite strategically complex. Very fun time.

4.Lunacid

Basically a new indie Kingsfield. An excellent time if you enjoy old slow action rpgs. Amazing atmosphere, music, level design, etc. Great time.

7.Citizen Sleeper

If I had to pick a top game from this list, it might just be this. RPG about being an escaped robot victim of capitalism on a space station and all the people you meet there. Made me cry a lot. Very good. Just play it.

8.In Other Waters

The same devs as citizen sleeper made this. Also very very good. About a marine xenobiologist exploring an alien ocean. Also made me cry. Best game about the ocean ive played. Finished it in a single sitting.

9.Mosa Lina

Very neat puzzle game/immersive sim in the strictest sense. Your solution to any give level is truly your own, always.

10.Milk Outside of a Bag of Milk

The sequel to another very good game, milk inside of a bag of milk. Although ofc quite dissimilar from my own experiences, as a person who struggles with intense social anxiety and is generally neurodivergent, I relate a lot to both of these games.

11.Signalis

Survival horror game about being an android who is looking for someone. Another game you just have to play. Very interesting story and themes, and tight, classic-feeling gameplay.

Other games I played for the first time this year and loved, that you’ve probably either heard of before or I didn’t quite like enough to list: What Remains of Edith Finch, Everhood, Paratopic, No One Lives Under the Lighthouse, Hyper Demon, Post Void, Wrought Flesh, Dusk, Exo One, Gris, Into the Breach, Abzu, Antichamber, Humanity, Amnesia Rebirth*

I feel like I need to end every videogames recommendation post now by begging you to play Outerwilds. Trust me, its amazing.

i actually think the S+A tier speak for themselves?

S tier: the goats. im aware its full of third versions but they just happen to be extremely good and added some insane shit to already solid base games (ok diamond and pearl werent solid but the foundation was there). replayability is insane for these.

A tier: the Oh Fuck Yeah games. not in any particular order actually. hgss is absolutely the best remake of all, only held back by the few inherent flaws of the Johto region and by not emulating Crystal enough. as much as i like bw, reverting back to only one region of pokemon never sat right by me, but it's been a while since ive played it, and nowadays i make much more of an effort to try out all new mons. so i could change my mind on this.

i liked usum more than sun/moon, if only for the post game. replayability isnt as high because of the cutscenes every 3 steps, and rotom dex is annoying as shit. aside from that, insanely solid story & postgame imo. red/blue and gold/silver are brimming with weird places in their regions and are chock full of in game lore and legends, which i really like. the ruins of alph & pokemon tower are some of the best locations theyve ever made imo

B tier is the "good but couldve been better" tier. lets go is insane for shiny hunting, but it stops at that imo. the new rival is garbo. sun and moon are good, but the postgame + alola in general is just lacking enough in these games that they dont reach A tier for me. loveeed the island challenges tho. alola itself has just such a good vibe. you really feel like its about community rather than competition. legends arceus couldve been insanely good, but i have never felt as ripped out of a pokemon game as i did when i walked through that cave in the coronet region and started seeing stray pixels around my character. which wasnt a one time thing btw this happens to anyones game & every time as far as ive seen. its gonna sound dramatic but this combined with other graphics glitches made it so clear i was playing a game that it just took me out of the adventure entirely. this is where the graphics glitches really started, and they havent stopped since.

C tier: yellow is just kinda there? i dont care for starter pikachu. i want to, but it gets killed when breathed at, so. idk. the gimmick doesnt work that well for me. sword and shield introduced some insane mons that i love and i want to call it solid real bad, but the story was hot garbage even for pokemon standards, and while the wild area was a great idea, the execution was lacking & because what i assume is a time crunch, the towns were boring as shit as well. diamond & pearl are mediocre to bad, with a great story and mediocre to bad execution, and i shouldve put oras in the :( tier, but the postgame is worth it.

actually im gonna rant about oras. i was so hyped for it but, just, ugh. if youre gonna turn a 2d vague not-specified-what-a-character-is-doing-or-feeling player character to 3d, at least do it correctly. 2d sprites where someone can fill in the blanks not seen on screen but hinted at in text (ie expressions, actions like handing someone something) work infinitely better than 3d sprites who show it badly. also still suffers from the desaturation curse that the 3ds games suffer from. postgame was dope, though. shame the mega latis are ugly as shit.

:( tier: garbage, im so sorry. SV's only redeeming factor is the area zero story. there is nothing else in the game that held my attention. fuck the star team, fuck the big pokemon quests, fuck the towns where you cant talk to anyone or find anything interesting or walk into a house and where every shop looks the game. fuck stores not even having an interior anymore. fuck this larger but emptier and stripped down world full of graphical glitches. fuck the weak ass gyms, fuck geeta, and fuck terrastalizing most of all. i will die for Koraidon & the professor fight fucking ruled but that's all the game had to it for me. do any of yall remember the gym leaders besides like, iono and the snowboard man? no you dont, stop lying to me. gen I put more life into lavender town by making a npc reference some ghost hand on your shoulder than SV does for any town, and they only had black and white 32mb cartridges or whatever to work with. for fucking shame gamefreak. give your devs some time to make a halfway functioning game.

firered and leafgreen do nothing new. i will not discuss the sevii islands. what the fuck even was that. boring. same with brilliant diamond and shining pearl. theyre lower than diamond and pearl because why the fuck did they not decide to remake platinum. what the hell was their damage. seriously platinum was RIGHT there. i caught a full odds shiny ghastly in that game and i still dont care about it.

anything by @nulfaga is fantastic, since the incomparable True Gold was mentioned I’m putting in my hat for the Bridge of Details (Mass Effect 2&3, Thane, Kolyat and her own original characters) which I am endlessly enamored with. Maybe a bit niche, but for any DragonFable fans who have played far enough, As A Kind of Trial is not to be missed (Tomix!)

and I’d be remiss not to mention the fic so compelling I had to read it without having played the actual game, @blackinquisitors’s Bloom. in this world Isaac lives and grows up; this story explores his relationship with his father and the gang who raised him, as he does.

4) recommend a song: ドレス by Buck-Tick has been in my head, one of my favorite albums by them

5) share some advice: you only learn how a story is written as you write it… and more and more I’ve found, when you think you have nothing to say/are blank, try to ask yourself a different question about the plot or the people

YES I very much do. Most of them are ocean themed (very unexpected i know). As a disclaimer, I honestly just don't play a lot of games anyway? I'm 100% not an avid gamer, so most of what I like playing are short experiences, usually indie, with huge emphasis on stories.

Here's my faves I've played myself (since most often I just watch the games themselves, and cant vouch for gameplay):

oh my god so much. I love red dead and its absolutely the best game ive ever played - and probably one of the best games ever - but its definitely not without flaws

Blessed are the peacemakers makes no sense in the plot. It does a few things: makes arthur doubt dutch, illustrates dutchs decline and his apathy (perhaps for the first time for the player), and shows that colm odriscoll is working with the pinkertons, possibly doing foreshadowing for micahs betrayal by showing you its possible for outlaws to become rats. BUT I think this could have been done in a billion other ways than "Lets torture arthur and never bring it up again!" bc he doesnt mention it, his shoulder injurt doesnt hinder him, he doesnt have ptsd from it. theres not a reason why that in particular had to happen. arthur could have been captured, but not tortured and shot, for example. maybe they could have drugged him and thru his haze he overheard colms plans and then managed to escape when he came to, only to find that it had been several days that he was missing and no one came to look for him. that sort of thing. same prinicple but without the ridiculous glossing over of TORTURE

Guarma. This one sticks in my craw and I get more annoyed every time I play it. R* originally was going to have villages and stranger missions on the island but abandoned it for some reason? time I guess? But I really would have liked to see a more personal look at the people there and how cornwall and fussar have hurt them. PLUS it would have been a very good opportunity to show how the way the rich men rob from the poor isnt too different from what dutch and the gang does. It would give arthur a really good image of how far they had fallen, that they were similar to these awful men, when they originally started off as robin hood-like men that gave back the money they stole to shanties. but no its just 3 missions of endless combat which can be fun but isnt really bc I dont even have my favortite gun with me. Also it didn't do a good job of showing Javier's sudden loyalty to Dutch/Bill/Micah. I would think that Arthur being stuck w these four, who eventually betray him, with nobody else would be a good opportunity to show how they all grow to hate him for some reason, but its not there. SIDE NOTE guarma is also glitched for me and this is a common bug. The time stays at 9am and half the guarma-exclusive animals dont spawn so I didn't get to fill out my compendium. R* never fixed this

I think all the girls could have been expanded upon. Tilly's role in the gang especially bc she was raised the same way as john and views dutch like a father, yet if you never heard her camp dialogue explaining this, you would never know. Molly especially needed more detail. She was supposed to be on the mission to go to the saint denis mayors party, and was cut for SOME REASON. but she would have done wonderfully. She should have had a part in it

The timeline of the gang and their relationships makes no fucking sense. Abigail says she always liked Mary, but Abigail joined the gang in 1894, and Mary and Arthur talk like they were in their early twenties when they were together. Theres a dialogue w Abigail and Uncle where they reminisce on her working girl days (bc Uncle was her pimp - very weird) and she says it was ten years ago. but that would mean she was working two years after she gave birth to jack which 1. didn't happen and 2. COULDNT happen bc I dont think men would want to pay for a night with a mother who had children fairly recently. the stretch marks and loose skin would give that away. Arthur has an antagonizing line to Jack that he looks like a williamson or an escuella- Javier didn't join the gang until about 1895, a year after abigail, and presumably when she was already pregnant or had given birth to jack. Theres other examples but these are the main ones I can think of

That encounter with Sonny in the swamp had no reason to be in the gang aside from R* thinking male victims of SA are funny

I wish they had more detail with Isaac. I mean clearly I wish that, ive got a 130k+ fic exploring arthur and Isaac's relationship, but within red dead I wanted just a bit more than a couple of lines. Originally Isaac and Eliza were both supposed to be in the game and Isaac was a newborn that would have frozen to death in the prologue, and I think Eliza would have ran away. Instead they went with making them a footnote in Arthur's story. On one hand, I understand why Arthur would rarely talk about them bc it would be too painful, but I also think if it was more overt, it would color his interactions with Jack/Abigail/John differently. Plus it would lean more into the themes of cycles of violence, and breaking out of it to be a father. Arthur didn't and he died childless, John tried to but he couldnt manage it and doomed his son to follow in his footsteps

THE EPILOGUE. Oh my godddd the more I play the epilogue, the more empty it feels and the more I realize why few people like it or finish it. It feels very tacked on. There needed to be a scene between the saddest video game death in history and John and Abigail arguing. The fact that there is no break inbetween like 2 hours of arthurs story wrapping up and another hour of John's story starting. Farm chores are fine but tedious if youve played it before. John being desperate for money and risking his life w sadies bounties makes no sense when Ive just done a treasure map and have $1000 in my inventory. "The gang needs money" is an endlessly attainable goal, moreso than "I need money". John's player model is just Arthur's reskinned- But they originally planned for you to play as John's npc model. You can see this in the pictures they have in the menu of John in the missions. The fact that there are NO NEW STRANGER MISSIONS aside from evelyn miller which is really nothing. They unlock new austin, but theres NOTHING to do there except collectiables and sight seeing and a couple bounties. Why even bother? When you compare how dense New Hanover is with Stuff To Do compared to New Austin which is HALF THE TOTAL MAP, its ridiculous!! I think it was just rushed and needed either more fleshing out, or cutting out completely bc John doesnt even live in new austin, and doesnt visit it until rdr1. Doesnt Bonnie give him a tour bc he doesnt know where things are? I may be misremembering that

Money. Money is so inconsistent and the values make no sense. Right its 1899. I rob a stagecoach and get $40 for it. This must be like $1000 in todays money. Wow Arthur beat a man to death for $40. This must be a lot of money. What do you mean a pair of jeans is $15. Thats how much they cost now! Wait why is this can of bean $1.40? I can buy them now for 40cents! Not to mention the Valentine bank robbery gives you $2000, essentially making money completely useless. Add on all the treasure maps as well as random gold bars lying around, which is 24 accoring to gamerant. $12,000 for all of those. So once you have this much money, all the fun outlaw stuff of robbing stagecoaches, mugging people, robbing stores and trains, is completely irrelavent. I never do any of it bc its not worth the bounty for 50 bucks. And paying off bounties isnt a big deal either bc its barely a dent in your pocket. Basically it takes the difficulty away, and the need to engage in these criminal activities for afford anything in the game. Its hard to take dutch seriously w his "We need more money" when I have a cool 8k in my man purse. Its also hard to believe Arthurs lamenting about his behaviour "I'm a bad man I rob and kill and am so terrible to people" no you aint but I dont make you do anything criminal unless the game makes me in a mission

Theres a lot of cut content and I wish almost all of it was back. Most notably, roulette tables, boat to guarma for John, more stranger missions, more companion activities in camp. I think they were orginally going to allow come sort of companion mechanic where people from camp could accomanpy Arthur on his adventures. I understand why they didnt bc that would require 10x more voice acting and would be really complicated with stranger missions, but I would have loved it all the same
