“Statement of Martin Blackwood, regarding…” Jon looks at him. Looks at him. The look of a boss whose employee was late three times last week, the look of a man who was just busy doing something really important and now he’s here, doing this instead. “...why he stole a grieving family’s oven gloves.”

Martin has a run in with a deadly Leitner, leaving him choking on his unrequited love.

“This is the Magnus Institute, not a creative writing course at university. If that doesn’t agree with him, he can leave.” There was a thud and the sound of rifling tapes. “He can take his bloody tea with him.”

Just a Little Bit Pet-tea by arthureameslove
No Archive Warnings Apply, Martin Blackwood/Jonathan "Jon" Sims | The Archivist
Martin makes Jon tea for the first time about a week into his transfer. It’s horrible. Gag-reflex inducing. Somehow sporting all the wrong flavors.
For some reason, he does not have the heart to break this to Martin.
Little does Jon know that Martin actually makes wonderful tea. Just not for him.

No Archive Warnings Apply, Martin Blackwood/Jonathan "Jon" Sims | The Archivist, Martin Blackwood & Sasha James & Tim Stoker, Martin Blackwood & Sasha James & Jonathan "Jon" Sims | The Archivist & Tim Stoker
It shouldn’t have been surprising to learn that Martin hated him. He had been, he knew, a truly terrible boss - he’d treated Martin horribly, caused him to lose his home, nearly gotten him killed. Really, it had been ridiculous to ever think that Martin wouldn’t hate him.
Still, Jon had been trying, in his own way, to make it up to him. There wasn’t exactly a card at the drugstore that said, “I’m sorry I berated you for six months and caused you to nearly be eaten by a swarm of worms of potentially supernatural origin,” but he’d been trying. He brought Martin breakfast every morning, made sure the breakroom cabinets were stocked with his favorite blends of tea, and had tried to work some genuine praise into his feedback of Martin’s work. None of it was the direct apology that his conscience told him he really ought to give, but Martin had appreciated it. Or seemed to, anyway.
Jon wasn’t certain what motivated the decision he made next - whether it was guilt or spite or something else. He could, he knew, be quite petty when the situation called for it. Either way, he made up his mind then and there to prove Martin wrong. He was going to be the best fake boyfriend he could be.

a consideration of tropes by gruhukens
No Archive Warnings Apply, Martin Blackwood/Jonathan "Jon" Sims | The Archivist
“Do you know much about cataloguing?” Jon asks, a little out of breath from the stairs.
Martin, mid-trolley, rolls his eyes. The gesture he makes at the shelves around him is only emphasised by the book he’s holding.
“What exactly do you think I do here, other than sit around and wait for angry patrons to yell at me?”
“Think of what you’re going to yell back?” Jon says, and Martin’s mouth twitches into a smile.
-
Asking the very important question: what if Jon and Martin had a gentle archives/library romance, and kept running into tropes? What if there was mutual pining involved? Only one bed? Fake dating? Hurt/comfort? Or perhaps, a soft and happy ending?

“It’s a preexisting condition,” Jon explains, sipping more bitter tea. “I sort of got—hm. You know Spiderman?”
Tim raises an eyebrow.
“Heard of him, yeah.”

Clutching Daffodils by Gemi
Creator Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings, Martin Blackwood/Jonathan Sims
Martin has always liked the idea of love at first sight.
It’s such a romantic idea, the whole thing of it. Seeing someone and instantly feeling that strange, twisting feeling deep inside that every single media likes to obsess over. Of knowing you are in love within the day, petals falling from your mouth and warmth filling your chest as love burrows deep, vines twisting through your lungs.
He always liked the idea of it.
And then Jonathan Sims starts working at the Magnus Institute.

“Have you got anywhere to stay?” Jon asks him, briskly. “Friends, acquaintances, maybe, who you could stay with…?”
Martin flushes, deeply. “I, I mean— n-no, not really,” he stammers, and then goes even redder. “Or, just, y’know not that I’d want to, to. Put in the middle of this. Put in danger of, of worms.”
“Ah,” Jon says, “No, of course, that makes sense.” Why drag anyone else into this mess? Seven people died during Prentiss’s initial hospitalization; the collateral damage of roping someone from outside the Institute into her orbit doesn’t bare thinking about. “In that case…” Jon feels like there’s some alternative solution, one he’s just not thinking of at the moment, but it evades him, and Martin needs somewhere safe to stay. “My couch is quite comfortable. You’re welcome to come and stay with me until you figure something else out.”
Martin is held hostage by Jane Prentiss for two weeks, and can't go back to his flat. Jon offers him a place to stay until Prentiss and her worms can be dealt with, and they can be sure he's safe.

No Archive Warnings Apply, Martin Blackwood/Jonathan "Jon" Sims | The Archivist
So. Martin isn't expecting anything to happen. But then, one day, something...does happen. It happens when Martin is passing Jon in the hall, and stops to ask how he’s doing, because Jon always looks a little bit like hell these days, and it makes Martin feel like he has to do something, and useless small talk is pretty much all he can do, so that’s what he does. And instead of grunting or shrugging or mumbling something dismissive, Jon replies, with perfect, involuntary clarity, "Every part of me aches, and I would just about kill to have someone rub my shoulders right now."
There's a positively deafening silence as they both come to grips with this unprecedented turn of events. Then they both start talking at once.
"Ah," says Jon.
"Wow," says Martin, at the same time.

Martin stands next to him on the train. His hand rests just beneath Jon’s where it grips one of the metal poles, and Martin takes care not to brush against him despite how crowded the car is. Jon considered telling Martin, when they first got on the tube, that it was okay—that his touch would be… well, it wouldn’t be bad. Not like Nikola's. But he’d stayed silent, allowing Martin to cultivate a careful space between them. They’ve been silent for the past twenty minutes as they’ve passed by station after station on their way to Martin’s flat in Brixton.
Jon adds 24 hours onto his mental countdown of the time he has left until he’s allowed to break down and tells himself that he can manage. It’s… important to have goals, he thinks. He splits this one into steps.

I've been going through tma recently at the request of my girlfriend. She has, on multiple occasions, showed me the Jurgen Leitner rant. I know I'm not very far into it yet (MAG 53), but I'm under the impression he's getting a bad rep.
Like, we're dealing with a setting where people literally get eaten by the sky and evil worms that burrow into people and kill them in minutes. We're dealing with a setting where Fuckhands McMike can banish literally anyone to the Backrooms (and stab Jon??? Because he feels like it?????) and yet we hate Jurgen because he liked literature. ok. I am SURE there's more awful people out there than a silly lil fucked up book collector
Dude just wants a cool library and I support this, even if he's a little messed up. If he got his hands on the Necronomicon I firstly, wouldn't be surprised and secondly, would support him.
But I'm not buying it. Someone in the setting's gotta be worse
Like... Tim? No, Tim's an absolute himbo fuckboy, we can't hate him. Who else? Sasha's been kinda funky and off-putting since Mag 40 but hasn't been evil, Martin's our bestest cinnamon roll boy, and Jon's just a dedicated lil guy who gets beat up because the world hates him for no reason. We just met that new girl, Basira? She's got good vibes and I'd probably kill for Gertrude
Who else is left?? OH, ELIAS. He owns the archives and told off Jon to "not stalk his coworkers" (ok fun police), which is offensive to both me and Jon, so he automatically goes in the "bitch-ass mf" category and I do not like him
Jon's suspicious of him and SO AM I
(I'll reblog this when I get further in with more details, no spoilers please)

Kill the Director (Please)
read it on AO3 at https://ift.tt/3NOpiSl by Your_reluctant_optimist 'The third time in the same week that Jon bumps into Martin, he takes it as a sign that the book is not giving up. London is a big place, after all. Luckily, Martin seems to have taken Jon's sudden interest in his after-work plans in stride, and not asked any questions, but the amount of times he has 'changed his mind' at the last minute and ended up in the exact same random café or obscure street corner as Jon is getting ridiculous. It should not be this hard to avoid someone in the middle of the country's capital city and biggest tourist trap. At least, unless you have a supernatural monkey on your shoulder trying to turn your life into a romcom.' Or, the one where a Leitner works very hard to matchmake Jon and Martin. something about the cases in tmagp keep reminding me of multiple of the fears so theory that they're not actually separate here
that smirkes 14 genuinely won't work for them
they came here directly after tma after they'd been fully in the universe where Jon specifically said the old divisions don't mean that much anymore so maybe that's still the case
because even then the eye was very separate because it was in charge and that still seems to be the case for some cases but the rest of them feel mingled like they fall under multiple fear categories
and the powers working together isn't a totally new concept leitner mentioned The Key of Solomon had elements of multiple powers
I also could be completely wrong because I was also never great at leitners whole what does the thing represent but tma statements felt more distinct than these
#saying that the avatars still seem pretty destinct fears so i might be reading too much into it#i like it as a theory tho and ive been meaning to make this post for ages so the fact it hasnt been wholly disproven yet is a win#the magnus protocol#tmagp#tmagp podcast#the magnus protocol spoilers#tmp spoilers#tmagp spoilers#not really spoilers but im tagging it just in case bc it kinda is#tmagp theory

Thinking about Person/Place/Thing
The TMAGP Categories. Oh boy. Currently, the most popular theory for the categories is that CAT1/2/3 is Person/Place/Thing. To be honest, I am not the biggest fan of Person/Place/Thing. I think it can be messy, inconsistent, and unsatisfying. That being said I am absolutely, 100% convinced it’s going to be the canon explanation for CAT. Every other theory is way more complicated while being even worse at fitting the data. So I figured I’d revisit the theory and try to come up with some possible explanations and fixes for common criticisms. First, I want to add a new claim to the theory: CAT 1/2/3 are only used to classify supernatural entities. If a case has a normal, non-magical serial killer, they do not fall into any of the categories and are ignored. That stuff just isn’t the OIAR’s problem, and would fall under the normal police’s jurisdiction. We can see something like this in the TMAGP trailer, which is probably canon. In it we hear Lena interviewing Sam before hiring him. It’s classified as CAT i. I think that this category is used for cases with no supernatural entities, and so can’t be CAT 1, 2, or 3. Maybe the i stands for internal or inert. Let’s go with inert because that sounds kinda alchemical. To clarify some potential edge cases, in order to be considered supernatural, an entity has to be supernatural by themself. To give a TMA example, Mary Keay, Jurgen Leitner, and Mikaele Salesa would all be considered inert. Even though they worked with supernatural stuff, they themselves were normal. Some TMAGP examples of this could be the merchant in episode 4 and Gregory from episode 36. Inert people who are transformed or infected by a supernatural entity which stays apart from them are still considered inert. Examples of this are RedCanary in episode 1, Daria in episode 2, and Webber in episode 3.
Ink5oul Ink5oul appears in 4 cases. In chronological order they are episodes 11, 2, 16, and 20. In episode 20, we get an idea of Ink5oul’s backstory. They learned about the Jarrett tattoos, at first just recreating old patterns, before eventually they started creating patterns of their own. I think in between episodes 2 and 16 Ink5oul went through a transformation. Before it, they were an inert human using and spreading pre-existing supernatural objects, so episode 2 is given CAT3. After the transformation, they become a supernatural avatar on their own, granting CAT1 to episodes 16 and 20.
Episode 11 The supernatural place in this episode is not the graveyard, it’s the ocean. It’s a case about an object causing a supernatural obsession with a place. I think CAT23 is fair.
Animals I think that non-sapient animals with normal levels of intelligence are given CAT3. The glitch/bug/literal insect in episode 13 fits this. In episode 14, the CAT1 comes from the shop owner, not the snakes. It’s not clear whether the shop owner should count as supernatural, or an inert person being affected by an external supernatural infection, but whatever. Hopefully there’s enough wiggle room for me to get away with it. In episode 19, the fact that the dog becomes sapient with presumably human-level intelligence is why he is given CAT1. The fruit is CAT3, Newton is inert.
Episode 17 Alternate Darrien is inert. The CAT2 comes from Hilltop.
Episode 22 Not too sure about this one. The premise is that something which should be CAT3 turns out to be CAT1, leading to horrifying implications. I guess that could be CAT13? Now that I think about it, episode 19 fits that description too.
Episode 28 Welling is inert and the skeleton is … um. CAT2 is in reference to the Institute, of course.
Episode 30 Ok, I think that the case in this one isn’t the Archivist getting a statement, it’s the statement that the Archivist got. The Archivist procured the case, but isn’t inside of it, despite the description. The manager is inert, and Hilltop is CAT2.
Person/Place/Thing’s Biggest Problem So, so many of the CAT2 episodes have human antagonists as a supplement to the location itself. Examples include (but arguably aren’t limited to) episodes 5, 7, 8, 21, 25, 28, 30, and 33. That’s a lot of holes. The closest thing to an explanation I can give is that these entities aren’t actually human. They have no free will or agency, and are just uncanny pieces of the environment, used as props to make a scene work. In episode 7, when Starkwall raided the charity shop, the volunteers did not react or drop their act. They just stood there spouting uncanny one-liners as they were gunned down, like a broken record. This is not how a normal person, or any of the CAT1s, would react. I guarantee if you put Needles, Ink5oul, or Mowbray in that situation they would have completely broken down, panicked, and would do anything to save themself. Committing to the bit would be the least of their worries. Even Bonzo acted embarrassed when Gwen met him. The only thing that makes a human any more dangerous than a wolf is sapience and intelligence. If the charity shop volunteers had neither, and they are just set dressing created by a location which happen to be in the shape of people, then I guess putting them and Hilltop under CAT2 could make more sense than under CAT1. Whatever. If someone can think of a better explanation than this, I would love to hear it.
Person/Place/Thing is a cool idea, I just hope that it's executed on well. If it does turn out to be correct, hopefully we'll get satisfying explanations for the issues with the theory as it exists now, that way it can live up to its full potential.

For all Leitner preached about the Fears being too beyond our understanding to be simplified into just a few categories, he really limited himself to collecting just books. Like any type of object could be a supernatural artifact and he decided, nah, I want Books. You could've had a collection of haunted cookware, or exotic plants, or anything else, but noOoOo. You can't be a mass murderer hated by the world AND boring, Jurgen. Pick a lane

tmagp thoughts (this will be pure nonsense I just need to write it down)
alice is so tim coded
obviously there's a connection anyone can make to the multiple statements abt urban exploration/spelunking in tma and the redcanary forum thread.... it invites the horrors (connection to danny?)
gwen is a ✨️bouchard✨️ (implication that while its a parallel universe the same ppl still exist? supports possibility of spelunking forum thread connecting to danny somehow (not actually super sold on that but seen a lot of ppl mention it so))
colin is definitely going to succumb to the horrors :/ (either first to die OR..... this universes version of an avatar?)
CHESTER AND NORRIS!!!
I'm of the firm opinion that they're jmart BUT! but but but! I do believe they're echoes of who they were, this just so happens to be Somewhere Else.
also! yes I understand that we most likely will Not get any tma characters in any meaningful way in tmagp, however I also believe that alex and jonny couldve very easily.... not...... voiced the text to speeches....... like yeah I dont think we're getting jmart as we knew them but..... come on
also also. the text to speeches got less robot sounding the longer they were reading and it really reminded me of how ppl reading statements would slowly get invested as they were reading and emote as if it were happening to them.
sam is on the archivist (or tmagp equivalent) pipeline already yikes
the turpentine line was raw as fuck. so was the canary one obviously. don't want to beat a dead horse by talking abt that bc so many others have already said it. but! the institute is deadly stay away!!
the sound engineering is god tier I love all the bleeps and bloops
colin knows smth is Watching. inadvertently feeding the eye by being paranoid? does the eye even exist the same way it did in tma?
theres definitely smth to be said abt whether or not robert smirke did his thing the way he did in tma and if anyone in the know uses the same classification or if the oiar is the only group categorizing. the fears always kind of blurred together at certain points so maybe without the human interpretation of it being 14 distinct entities it's more of an..... amalgam?
magnus institute is in a different place which is interesting. if it was built for the same reasons (outside of just research) is there another panopticon esque structure underneath? (brings us back to if smirke was doing his thing)
very curious to see if theres gonna be a leitner books equivalent.
I deeply deeply deeply desire a michaela salesa cameo at some point. he's one of my fav side characters.
sam and gwen using classic horror characters to help him try and memorize the classification categories was very cute
another thing I'm sure everyone has talked abt already but the whole world wide WEB thing and possible jmart in the computers and omg they're in the web and the oiar is part of the web and blah blah blah u get the image.
lena is intriguing to me. my guess is she's going to be a gertrude esque character who knows at least the basics of what's really happening and is trying to put a stop to it.
I havent seen anyone talk abt like...... what IS the magnus protocol. like tma was the archives in the magnus institute. the magnus archives. self explanatory from like ep 1. what the hell is the magnus protocol. is it smth fr3-d1 will run? or the text to speeches? is it tmagp's version of a ritual? using protocol to reference the updated tech from tma? is it smth the actual organization has to run in the event of Something Happening? WHAT THE PROTOCOL WHATS IT FORRRRR
I know nothing abt the ARG shit, just to note that
okay I think that's it for now..... feel free to discuss in the notes lol

Name: Zerstörung durch Fortschritte der Technologie (ZFT)
Source: Fringe (TV show)
Category: Leitner
Entity: The Extinction
Description: The ZFT (translation: Destruction Through Technological Progress) is a self-published manuscript that describes an oncoming apocalypse, brought on by unchecked scientific and technological progress. It posits that there is another parallel universe and that travel between them "will lead to a series of inevitable breakdown... Unquantifiable at first, but growing, not unlike a cancer, until... simple fact becomes self-evident. Only one side will prevail. And it will be either us...or them." This fear of both annihilation and replacement by others makes it a fitting Extinction Leitner, especially as in the show itself, it is the manifesto of a terrorist group of the same name, who have been preparing for this oncoming war for decades. This includes extreme fringe science experiments to develop weapons and weakening the membrane between the two universes, as well as "activating" recruits that their leader experimented on when they were children, using their enhanced abilities to fight against and destroy the other universe.
Quotes:
"The advances of science which is supposed to expand our knowledge of the universe, will, if not carefully controlled, destroy the world as we know it...Our technological ambitions have not only driven us to the brink of catastrophe, the catastrophe has already begun." - "A black horizon approaches. Our scientific advancements have so dramatically outpaced those of the human soul that man, a creation... defined by passion and greed, now stands at the base of an in...pyramid of knowledge which expands heavenward with with no regard for the frailty of its foundation. We will as a species, surely be crushed beneath its weight. But we will not simply perish. The very fabric of our universe will be torn to rags... like an infant conducting the firmament, these technological trends will produce a cumulative impact far more catastrophic than the minds of its architects can possibly understand." - "We think we understand reality, but our universe is only one of many. The unknown truths of the way to travel between them has already been discovered, by beings much like us but who's history is slightly ahead of our own. The negative aspects of such visitations will be irreversible both to our world and to theirs. It will begin with a series of unnatural occurrences. Difficult to notice at first but growing, not unlike a cancer, until a simple fact becomes undeniable only one world will survive and it will either be us or them."

Mastering Kanji as a Visual Learner: A Practical Guide
Learning Kanji can feel like a daunting task for many Japanese learners, and understandably so. With thousands of characters to memorize, each holding unique meanings and pronunciations, Kanji often presents a major hurdle. However, for visual learners, mastering Kanji can be made easier through effective techniques and tools tailored to their learning style. In this blog, I’ll share my personal experience and strategies for learning Kanji visually.
1. Visual Flashcards: The Cornerstone of Learning
For a visual learner, flashcards are one of the most effective tools for committing Kanji to memory. But instead of just plain text, I recommend using visual flashcards that incorporate:
Images: Relate the Kanji to images that symbolize the meaning of the character. For example, for the Kanji 木 (tree), you could include an image of a tree to strengthen the mental association.
Definitions: Keep the meaning of the Kanji in mind by clearly including it on the flashcard.
Pronunciations: Adding the readings, both Kun'yomi and On'yomi, will help you remember how to say the characters.
Contextual Examples: Use the Kanji in simple sentences or phrases so that you can recognize how it is used in context.
By combining these visual elements, your brain can make connections between the Kanji’s shape, meaning, and usage. Flashcards are a great way to make learning active and engaging.
2. Leverage Memorization Techniques: The Leitner System
While visual flashcards are essential, combining them with the right memorization method is what will ensure long-term retention. One such technique is the Leitner System, a spaced repetition method designed to make you focus on what’s most difficult.
Here’s how it works:
Start by sorting Kanji into five categories based on difficulty.
If you remember a Kanji correctly, it moves up to a higher level.
If you forget it, it moves back to a lower level.
You review the Kanji from the lower levels more frequently than those in the higher ones, ensuring more attention to challenging characters.
This structured approach helps keep your review sessions efficient and prevents the overwhelm that can come from reviewing hundreds of Kanji at once.
3. SRS (Spaced Repetition System) for Optimized Learning
Spaced Repetition Systems (SRS) are another effective strategy that works hand-in-hand with visual flashcards. SRS adjusts the review intervals of each Kanji based on how well you know it. The idea is to review characters right before you’re about to forget them, which helps embed them into your long-term memory.
Popular apps like Anki or Mazii utilize this principle, and they often allow you to add images and examples, perfect for visual learners.
4. Consistent Practice: The Key to Mastery
While tools and techniques are essential, consistent practice is what will ultimately lead to mastery. Setting a daily or weekly routine that includes reviewing your flashcards, writing out Kanji by hand, and practicing Kanji in context (such as reading or writing) is crucial. Progress may be slow, but steady, and over time, you will begin to recognize more and more characters.
Conclusion
Mastering Kanji as a visual learner is all about tapping into your strengths. Using visual flashcards enhanced with images, incorporating the Leitner system, and taking advantage of SRS technology will streamline your learning process and make it more enjoyable. With the right tools and consistent effort, you’ll find that Kanji, once a challenging obstacle, becomes an integral part of your Japanese language journey.
Keep at it, and soon you’ll unlock the richness of Japanese through Kanji!

Introductions.
Ahem. Hello, this is the Head Librarian of the Leitner Foundation Library. I have the... questionable honour of being at the forefront of our Foundation's efforts at continuing the work of the late Jurgen Leitner, compiling and containing anomalous literature.
I understand the potential objections to this, but the Foundation's team is... uniquely qualified. We are aware of the distinctions between the anomalies, and are each... uniquely attuned to the category we are in charge of overseeing. I, myself, am a conduit of The Spinner of Schemes, hence my role as Head Librarian.
We shall do our best to not repeat the failings of our predecessor and namesake. That's enough for introductions, though. It is high time I get to cataloguing.

The Leitner fic has turned from an alternating 2 person pov horror drama into a black comedy and I'm too busy laughing to care
"One time an assistant by the name of Mikaele suggested, or perhaps joked, they sort the books into just two categories; those that eat people and those that do not in fact eat people, immediately that is; which would, according to him, save many hours of research, and hours of labelling things, and lives.
Leitner thought that said system did not account for the books which consumed their readers slowly, bit by bit, digging into their psyche like one might into a frozen tub of ice cream, until it gave away. He also refused to entertain the idea, that a mere assistant might have had a point.
The used-to-be-assistant by the name of Mikaele promptly quit next week, after a silly labelling error made another assistant dig a hole into the floor."

Tales from the Archive: Of pranks crushes and tired lunatics
read it on AO3 at https://ift.tt/twa4O1j by Vinyara It took Jon all of his self-control not to collapse on a stack of statements from those… people, who mostly just wanted to waste his precious time. A quick glance through them told him who he had to deal with now: Anna Pond (a cursed chair), Mary Higgins (fire ghosts, apparently) and Luke Webber (he couldn’t even read that… faflry???, family???, faeries???), all probably as accurate as the fact that Elias was a good boss. The archival assistants prank Jon. It does not go well. I was thinking about the theory of how the tmagp universe is ruled by desire instead of fears and how it does not neatly match up with all the statements. But what if the Fears from mag, after slipping from the mag universe, are now sharing/interacting/struggling against those Desires that already inhabited that universe? EP 8 especially made me think about that, both because the victim spends a lot of time talking about combining those two different categories from two different fields of study to explain his experience as well how it seemed like he ran away from Desire (the photography-like lights that reminded him from the favorite photo his ex-wife had gifted him) into the arms of the Fears. It would also explain why the avatars so far seem weaker than in mag. Anyway, sorry for the rant!
no, thanks for the rant! its an interesting thought!
are the avatars so far weaker than we had in tma? the main difference so far seems to be that tma had a lot more Monsters, those that were never human - the Angler fish, Not!them, arguably Breekon and Hope, the Piper, all within the first 9 eps. The few avatars we got weren't all that more powerful than Protocol's, so far; Prentiss, some unnamed guy in ep 5; they killed a guy, ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. So did our guy Needles.
So maybe full Monsters are rarer in this world? but yeah, that could be a result of a clash between Powers!
tho, to be honest for a sec, im not quite vibing (yet) with the Desires-instead-of-Fears angle. it's not really to do with its viability based on what we know so far, its more an issue of genre:
if Desires are powers in the same way the Fears are, that implies they could have Avatars-but-benign, Leitners-but-benign. And that would make tmagp into less of a horror, and more of an urban fantasy setting, where you can fight monsters if you just believe in yourself and want it badly enough. It only works for me if the Desire powers are still an aspect of the Fears, and like a genie, they twist the wish to have horrible consequences. and that does seem to be happening, a bit! But that would make the distinction between Desires and Fears less one of distinct kinds, and more just one of flavor.
#tmagp#tmagp spoilers#tmagp theory#tmagp s1#joos yaps#anon#anonymous#so tbc im not saying it cant happen based on canon. im saying i dont vibe with it#with tma while i wasnt the best at making accurate predictions i was usually right in guessing which ones _wouldnt_ happen based on my gut#buuuut not always#and this isnt tma; its tmagp

SPOILERS FOR THE MAGNUS PROTOCOL EP4
There’s so much to talk about in this episode!!
Ok, first of all AUGUSTUS!!! Obviously we can’t really know who he is bc we haven’t heard his voice before, but I’m still completely convinced this is Jonah Magnus’ original voice (it will be very embarrasing if I turn out to be wrong)
The case itself intrigues me a lot bc it seems very obviously aligned with The Slaughter (music that inspires violence is literally The Slaughter’s trademark), but the other four cases we’ve listened to thus far don’t fit any of Smirke’s categories that neatly. They had bits and pieces that could be attributed to different Fears, but nothing that felt so much like one of the statements in TMA as this one does. Could it be that it’s because it happened centuries ago? Maybe the Fears in this universe started off fairly similar to the ones in TMA but evolved into something different with time. Maybe the lines between them became even more blurry.
Also, even though the case is very Slaughter-like, the man who gives the narrator that fucked up violin reminds me of The Eye more than anything. The way the narrator described it made it sound as if he was compelled to tell the man his story even though he didn’t mean to at first, which sounds very similar to the ability that avatars of The Eye have.
Last but not least WHAT THE FUCK??? LENA??? I mean there was obviously something up with her but I didn’t expect it to be shown so early on. Who the fuck is Klaus?? Did he get brutally pipe murdered?? If he did, then why? Also, was what we heard all of the recording, or did Gwen watch something else that we didn’t bc it was cut off?
All we know is that whatever happened in that recording couldn’t have been recent, bc the transcripts said it was “younger Lena” speaking.
Also I forgot to mention this but for a second I thought Augustus’ voice was Jurgen Leitner’s and absolutely lost my shit, but I don’t really think it’s him bc his VA wasn’t listed as part of the cast
I am so excited about this!! I cannot wait to figure out what the actual fuck is going on
