Propaganda Under Cut

This has enraged me for YEARS. She is constantly sidelined in the fandom in favor of the main m/m ship which itself its fine but the way people treat her drives me NUTS. When I actually was in the fandom, Consistently! her crush on the main character which is a CENTRAL fucking plot point is just explained away to make room for yaoi. If they even have that kind of decency. Like 99% of the fics just say "oh! she's a lesbian actually totally this was comphet im not a misogynist" or "she's Actually Aroace" and not ponder on the optics of sanitizing the CANON fucking attraction of a chubby easian girl. It's sososo transparent and another fucking example of she's actually the Mom friend! or other annoying racist and misogynistic tropes.

She likes play rehearsal. She's the love interest of the main character, Jeremy. Jeremy also has a best friend, Michael, whom he's usually shipped with. And since she's the canonical love interest and as such often gets in the way of their beloved ship. They are very creative in finding the ways to get rid of her to ship Michael with Jeremy, ranging from making her asexual(because ace people can't date apparently), completely kicking her out of the last two songs of the musical and putting Michael in her place, to vilifying her and claiming she was never interested in Jeremy in the first place, despite musical explicitly saying the opposite.

Love interest of the main character Jeremy Heere and therefore stands in the way of the fandom's most popular ship, boyf reinds. Being specifically a love interest we don't get. A whole lot of her but she's fun! She's a theatre kid. She is silly and goofy. Also has a one off line in one of the songs that mentions she has ADD. Idk what I'm supposed to say really and I'm always bad at talking about characters so.

Yennefer

Constantly villainized because one way or another she gets in the way of a MLM ship (though at least one of them would probably be fine with a poly relationship). In the show version of her, her love interest bound her to him via magic, never told her until someone else brought it up despite it the bond causing them to meet over and over, her love interest didn’t understand why this upset her and brushed it off and still has never apologized for it because apparently it was the only way to save her life, she had better chemistry with Jaskier (the other half of the MLM ship) and had a semi-decent rivals to frenemies thing going on, the show took away her powers (which never happened in the books) to have her go on a pointless quest to get them back that worsened her relationship with her love interest because they had her try to kill her love interest’s adopted child (which now justifies why he doesn’t need to apologize of course), and all of that was after she’d already had an arc regarding sacrifice and how power wasn’t really what she wanted.

God forbid women do anything. She either gets hate or is ignored, really classic stuff. And she's Geralt's gf but you know, *gestures at geraskier*

FAQ

What is the Yenralt Comment Fest?

It’s one week dedicated to commenting on fanworks for the pairing Geralt/Yennefer from The Witcher. “Commenting” should be taken broadly as meaning: giving kudos on AO3, reblogging fanart with nice tags on tumblr, share a list of recommended fics to read on discord, etc. As long as it’s positive and spreads joy, it counts!

Do I have to sign up somewhere?

No, sign-ups are not necessary. This is a low-key event, you don’t even have to tell us you commented on anything.

I would love to comment but I don’t know what to say...

That is totally understandable. Commenting can be difficult and that’s why we reblog posts that can help you writing comments, find inspiration. You can find them all in our resources tag.

Does it count if I comment anonymously?

Yes, of course! A comment is a comment.

Is this only for fanfics?

No. As stated above we encourage spreading love on all types of fanworks (fanfiction, fanart but also fanvids, gifsets, fanmixes etc.). As long as it’s about Yennefer and Geralt, we accept it.

Do we have to follow the themes?

No, they’re entirely optional.

Are fanworks with pairings like Geralt/Yennefer/Jaskier also accepted?

No, this is an event created specifically for Geralt/Yennefer fanworks so they’re the only ones accepted. If it’s pre-Geraskefer and focuses on Yenralt we will accept it but the point of this fest is to love Geralt/Yennefer specifically.

If there are side pairings, for example the main ship is Geralt/Yennefer but there is also Lambert/Aiden on the side, that is totally fine.

Jaskier giggled, feeling rather lose with the glass (or two or three) of wine in him, “And what if- no listen Geralt! What if,” he hooked a finger under Geralt’s chin, making him look at him where he was sitting on his knees on the couch. They’d been watching a movie, or pretending to, when Jaskier started flirting and Geralt responded for the first time since they’d known each other, “...what if I kissed you?” 

Geralt narrowed his eyes and pursed his lips, draping an arm over the back of the couch they were both perched on, “It’s not nice to poke fun at-”

“So you would?!” Jaskier interrupted, a huge grin spreading over his features. 

“I already told you I’d kiss back. I don’t see why you’re so obsessed with this. You’re dating Christine.”

Jaskier bit his lip, “Fuck Christine. She’s fucking Valdo anyway.”

Geralt raised an eyebrow, seeming to catch up to the situation a little late, “You don’t care about Christine?”

“As a person, yes. But- and I’m not proud of this- she’s just a placeholder.” 

“F-for who?” Geralt looked absolutely terrified but so hopeful, so absolutely open for once in his whole fucking life that Jaskier couldn’t bring himself to lie. Maybe it was the wine, maybe it was the fact that he’d been in love with his best friend since their junior year of college, but he wasn’t going to hold back tonight. 

“You,” He breathed, leaning in closer, “I’ve only ever wanted you.”

Geralt’s eyes widened and all the air seemed to flee his lungs as he simply stared at Jaskier, “I only… you- you what?”

Jaskier swallowed hard, sitting back on his heels and picking at his nails in his lap as he rambled, “It’s okay if you don't- aren’t- on the same page?” all his confidence from earlier was gone, leaving him backpedaling, “You were just talking about a kiss. And it’s only polite to kiss back and its fun! No big deal! Totally casual. I get it if you don't feel the same and I really hope we can stay friends because you’re so very important to me and I’m clearly okay with just being friends. I really really am-” he cut himself off when he felt his throat get tight and tears well up behind his eyes. 

This was a mistake. A wine fueled disaster that was about to leave him without a best friend and miserable. 

“Jaskier,” Geralt’s voice was soft but firm, a tone Jask had heard a million times when Geralt was talking with the kids he gave lessons to, “can you look at me?”

He took a breath to steady himself and gather his courage before he looked up, cursing himself when he realized his eyes were brimming with tears. 

“What do you mean?” 

Jaskier tilted his head, “I love you. You really think I could mean an-!”

Geralt didn’t let him finish, sealing their lips together as he surged forward. He pinned Jaskier to the other arm of the couch in his excitement, trapping one of his legs at an awkward angle.

“Oo! Geralt! I’m ah- stuck,” Jaskier giggled as they tried to free his ankle from where it was stuck under Geralt and the couch cushion.

“Sorry, not very romantic…:’ Geralt murmured, rubbing Jaskier’s ankle gently.

Jaskier gripped his collar and pulled him back overtop of him into a kiss, “Less talking.”

AHHHH I’m so glad you liked it!! I love putting Jaskier in corsets and lace because, well, he’s fucking pretty and he deserves to be adored! Who wouldn’t want to play dress up with the bard, amirite?

Thank you so much Nonny! I am so touched that you feel that way. It is still one of my favorite pieces I’ve written (although that’s a bit like choosing a favorite child. You don’t. But you kinda do.)

As far as more fics like that, I don’t know if they’ll be Geraskier because I definitely feel it as more of a platonic ship than a romantic one these days, but I do have notes or plans for a few other musicals to Witcher-ize. I just need to either rewatch the show, or more likely, get new content to revitalize my creative juices. 

But “Broadways Best Witchers” is still what inspired me to create this blog, so I won’t let it be a one-and-done, I promise.
