iced coffee and journaling afternoons

So many times I pass by the orchids in the grocery store. I want to buy one, but I havent plucked up the courage yet. I stare at them longingly and wonder what it might be like to have one of my own. Petal and blush and bluish lilacs, delicate colors I think of constantly. At home I research how to care for something so small and fragile. Loose soil, needs bright indirect light, they glow when taken care of right. They sleep for impossible stretches of time between blooms, so long in fact, you'd think they were dead. Orchids have long, dreamless sleep, you see.

Maybe, it is because they remind me of you that I want one so. I see you in everything—mundane and fantastical. In a perfectly ornamental heirloom tomato, in the rich buttery yolks of organic eggs. Dense sweet cream I stir into my coffee. In pomegranate seeds and brie. I see you in the frozen aisle as the frost creeping up the glass, as the orchid and its vines and in matte citrus rinds.

Anyway, I've got orchids in my mind—and you.
