“You don’t have to come,” were the first words out of Callum’s mouth, once he’d resolved to go back to Akiyu’s grotto.
They’d spent a few months in the Silvergrove just recuperating after everything: Aaravos, the Archdragons, Ezran watching them leave with a frown but without the fury in his eyes. He hadn’t invited them back to Katolis, and they hadn’t asked to stay. The last few days, though, Rayla had sensed the shift in Callum: he’d gone to the Silvergrove library to look into magic.
Moonshadow elves didn’t have much on Ocean magic, but they had something, and given that the Great Bookery had been obliterated, well... they had to start somewhere.
“We need another pearl for when he comes back,” Callum had said when she’d corralled him away from the books and into bed, her room in the Silvergrove now firmly theirs . 
Rayla had run her hands down his shoulders and arms. That was for sure. She couldn’t—she wouldn’t —bring herself to sacrifice him again. “And you think Akiyu’s grotto might have some answers?”
He’d nodded. “I might need a moon opal, but I can cast historia viventem and see what she was working on to make it. Then maybe I can fill in the steps and work on recreating it.” He’d looked at her, his brow creased beneath his new white streak. “You don’t have to come with—”
But she’d leaned over and kissed him. “Where you go, I go, Callum.” 
Now they were here, the beach not yet recovered from whatever violent tantrum Claudia had thrown. Rayla wrinkled her nose as she surveyed the lifeless tidepools. Violence was one thing; unnecessary violence was another, and it seemed like every dark mage became exceedingly prone to doling it out. 
At least the sky was blue, hardly streaked with any clouds. They wouldn’t have to worry about rain on their way out. She’d walked in more rainstorms than she’d ever cared for, during her two years away, shivering under her soaked cloak. The idea of staying in one place for longer than a few weeks was more than tempting after so long on the road, but... Rayla never would have let him return here alone.

INFP 16. I love (and also really really hate) what you said about lack of objectivity. After reading about Si loop and pessimism, I'm more aware and try to balance with affirming thoughts. Do you think it helps body dysmorphia too? I'm not diagnosed or anything, I just really hate how I look sometimes. I used to think my judgements were right because of "fact" (like there's a line/mark/bulge to point at) but it's just another thing I get too negative about?
The notion of beauty standards is complicated, so you can read what I've written about it before. Suffice it to say that very few judgments regarding beauty should be considered "objective". You only need to study a bit of history to realize that beauty standards vary widely based on time and place, which reveals a social construct.
As an individual, your idea of beauty is very heavily influenced by the culture and society you live in. I always bring up the story of The Ugly Duckling to illustrate in simple terms what it means to have your perception (of beauty) twisted by society.
You see a line/mark/bulge and think ew gross, others might see something else. One person sees an ugly mole, another person flaunts it as a beauty mark. Your way of looking at it isn't the only valid way, so if your way always suspiciously turns toward the negative, then, yes, maybe you need to rebalance your perspective. Or, there might be a deeper self-esteem issue that needs addressing (especially as it relates to Te grip).
Body dysmorphia can feel like a vicious cycle: You feel bad about yourself for whatever reason, and then you start picking out the stuff in the mirror you don't like seeing, and then you feel even worse about yourself, and then you pick yourself apart even more harshly...
There are a variety of ways to recalibrate your perspective. If you're too negative or critical, then, yes, you can remind yourself to look for the good things you like. For example, you might not like this characteristic of your body, but that other aspect is awesome, so why only focus on the negative? It's unreasonable to expect perfection.
Another method of recalibrating your perspective is to broaden or deepen it:
Example of broadening:
People young and old have written to me about feeling aging anxiety every time they look in the mirror and see a line or a gray hair. But when I look at my parents and aunts and uncles getting older, I don't see them "aging" per se. I see them growing into their skin. I see the evidence of a full life written on their body, and I think it's beautiful and wonderful that they've made it so far in life. Average life expectancy in 1900 was 47, so humans have come a long way!
As I witness myself getting older every birthday, I'm a bit critical if I'm honest, but I quickly adjust my attitude. Instead of fixating on this or that detail, I look at myself and reflect on how extremely fortunate I am to be in good health because I have access to health care, healthy food, and my life isn't so stressful that I can't sleep well at night.
Taking "the grand scheme of things" as your perspective, lines/marks/bulges don't mean much. What matters more? What matters most? If you don't want to live in a society that only values people for their looks, then the change should begin with yourself first and foremost.
Example of deepening:
The way you look is largely determined by genetics, and looks will fade with age. Should you take credit for accidents of nature? Well, if you're going to feel good about yourself through others praising your genes as beautiful, the flip side is that you doom yourself to feeling bad when people don't.
From this perspective, the better approach is to have a deeper understanding of self-worth and how it should NOT be tied to things that have no real meaning, or things beyond your control that you shouldn't be faulted for.
Sure, it's a fact that people who are considered beautiful might have more doors opened to them, but it is also a fact that being a good person is likely to bring you many meaningful rewards in the long run. When people like you mainly for your looks, what happens when you inevitably lose them? When people love you for who you really are at heart... now that's gold. Why settle for less?

Adjusting your perspective (aka cognitive reframing) isn't about lying to yourself but, rather, acknowledging that your thinking is flawed and needs correction or improvement. It is a tried-and-true way of mitigating excess negativity. And it should be relatively easy to do for anyone with a healthy N function. How's your Ne?

Explanation on an MBTI loop. Not an expert. May change later.

Loops in MBTI occurs when a type begins to cycle between their dominant and tertiary function, completely ignoring the auxiliary and inferior. This is mainly caused from stress and can be continous until finally broken.

INTP Function stack: Ti - Ne - Si - Fe
When in a Ti - Si loop, INTP is stuck trying to find answers from previous experiences. They can get trapped in constant rumination about the past as they try to find the answer(s) to their issue(s). However, this does more harm than good as they will start to fixate on their past mistakes. Overanalyzing the things they could and should have done will paralyze them into fear and self doubt. Can be very indecisive. Their overthinking will stump their Aux Ne from functioning properly, which can cause INTP to get trapped with certain routines and structures (even if it is not benefitting them). Without the help of Ne, a looping INTP struggles to form new ideas and perspectives. It makes it difficult for INTP to be innovative.
To escape the loop, an INTP needs to learn to utilize their Ne properly again. They can try to put themselves in new opportunities that will get their Ne to function; new opportunities will hopefully get INTP to explore new ideas and concepts. Brainstorm possible solutions to get their gears going. Learn to be more accepting of their own mistakes and failures, be more self compassionate.

Contemporary discourse often attributes high levels of sophistication and intelligence to the recommendation and engagement algorithms employed by dominant tech companies. Users report instances of eerie accuracy or emotionally resonant suggestions, fueling the belief that these systems understand them deeply. However, closer inspection reveals a more efficient and cynical design principle: engagement maximization through binary funneling.
2. Binary Funneling and Predictive Exploitation
At the core of these algorithms lies a reductive model: categorize user reactions as either positive (approval, enjoyment, validation) or negative (disgust, anger, outrage). This binary schema simplifies personalization into a feedback loop in which any user response serves to reinforce algorithmic certainty. The Back Drawer Effect of Perception
To interpret and understand the data that our mind receives—perception—is one of the trickiest and most natural qualities of human cognition. As Immanuel Kant argued, our perceptions actively shape our external reality rather than merely reflecting it.
Research suggests that the human brain generates between 6,000 to 70,000 thoughts per day. Astonishingly, 80-90% of these thoughts are repetitions of "yesterday's logic", meaning most of what we think today is recycled from the past.
These recurring thoughts influence our beliefs, ethics, choices, and actions, leading us to question: How impactful is our subconscious programming, a.k.a our mental “back drawer”?

The Back Drawer: Subconscious Conditioning
The back drawer consists of stored mental patterns shaped by childhood experiences, social conditioning, and repeated life events.
For instance, if you were frequently told as a child that you’re “not good at math,” your subconscious mind would reinforce this belief, affecting your confidence and effort in the subject. Over time, this internalized belief manifests in real-world struggles, regardless of actual ability.

Our brains automate repeated thoughts and behaviors, making change feel difficult and unnatural.
This leads to a self-reinforcing cycle of perception and reality:

The Subjective Nature of Truth
My father once gave me a perspective-changing lesson in elementary school. He said:
"Two people may witness the same event but interpret it in completely different ways."
This happens constantly in society, revealing that perception is shaped by personal experience, emotions, and cognitive biases.
As Friedrich Nietzsche argued:
"There are no facts, only interpretations."
Truth, then, is often subjective. What one person sees as undeniable, another might challenge based on their unique perspective.
(For example, some people argue that Taka—better known as Scar from The Lion King—was driven to villainy because Mufasa stole his ultimate crush. While I disagree, the debate itself shows how perception influences narrative.)

Rewiring Perception & Thought Patterns
To transform perception, one must be open and eager to:
1. Actively Question Core Beliefs
Self-introspection is key. Ask yourself:
What beliefs are limiting me?
Where did they come from?
What evidence do I have to challenge them?
2. Implement a “Delulu” Strategy for Success
("Delulu" = conscious belief in an optimistic, alternative reality until it becomes true.)

3. Commit to Repetition & Exploration
New beliefs, thoughts, and actions must be practiced repeatedly to override the subconscious back drawer. Growth is often chaotic, but necessary.
If you grew up believing that money is hard to make, actively seek proof that contradicts this belief.
If you were conditioned to fear failure, intentionally expose yourself to small failures and reframe them as lessons.

The thoughts we hold, consciously or unconsciously, dictate the reality we experience. The mind is a powerful tool—it can either keep us trapped in old patterns or propel us toward transformation.
