I'd like to imagine Lambert would often sing "You Are My Sunshine" to Dimitri[doesn't matter if he can sing or not, he just wants to sing it to Dimitri]. When Dimitri gets older, sometimes he'll request Lambert to sing it.

When Dimitri is feral{kind of closer to him becoming less angry[aka Rodrigue talking to him]}, he happens to hear Claude singing "You Are My Sunshine" in Almyran{likely to a cat} and while Dimitri may not understand Almyran, he recognizes the tune and it brings him back memories of Lambert singing the song to him so he starts crying and allows Claude to comfort him.
