welp, he was so mesmerized by you that his own daughter noticed his strange expression. must’ve looked like a damn fool. it’s better to tell the truth than lie, he taught her that.

“is that lady your teacher, mija?” he points out at you, luckily you’re too busy conversing with a parent to notice him pointing.

“oh yeah!” she says your name very happily. “she’s the nicest teacher ever!”

⠀♡ ˖ ࣪ ༘⠀ cop!miguel who is now intrigued by his daughter’s admiration for you but also shocked that you’re her teacher. a very beautiful teacher. he rarely picks gabi up from school due to work, his friend lyla would. that’s why he has never seen you before and never knew you’re gabi’s teacher.

“well, i bet she is.” he sneaks a glance at you, still conversing with the same parent.

“i wanna get ice cream! por favor, papí!”

the local ice cream truck that always arrives at the school on fridays was there. he knows he can’t deny his little girl a small treat for the week.

“alright, mija. let’s go.”

“oh perdóname for startling you.” a soft chuckle slips past your lips. “you’re gabi’s dad, ¿sí?”

lips agape and eyes widen in pure astonishment at the sight of the most gorgeous woman standing beside him. oh and your voice too, so angelic to his ears. his eyes rake over your face, drinking in every detail. if perfection was a person, it’s you.

“yes.” he awkwardly clears his throat, feeling heat rise in his cheeks. “miguel.” he offers a hand, which is a bit clammy due to nervousness.

god, he hasn’t felt this nervous since high school. acting like a shy schoolboy talking to his crush.

you say your name as you gently shake his hand. “nice to finally meet you, officer o’hara.” you offer a soft smile that makes his heart flutter. “gabi has talked a lot about you.”

“she has, hasn’t she?” he said with a grin, acting casual as if he wasn’t just taking mental note of the size difference between you two. how small yours are compared to his. how perfectly yours fit in his.

“oh all the time.” you smile, softly chuckling. “she says that her dad is the best cop ever and is the greatest hero of nueva york.”

⠀♡ ˖ ࣪ ༘⠀ cop!miguel whose heart is swoon by his daughter’s admiration for him and how sweetly you sound. not to mention that angelic giggle.

“oh mija…” a soft smile appears on his face as he glances at his daughter from afar, who’s playing with friends. “it’s nice to finally meet you as well, señorita. i’m sorry for not introducing myself before.”

you shake your head. “no te perocupes, you’re a busy man. you save lives and deal with the public, it’s completely understandable.” a soft smile on your lips.

damn, it is possible to like someone more than you already have? how considerate you are. his infatuation with you increases immensely.

you huff out a laugh, making his heart flutter once again. “my name is just fine.”

“i like being polite, señorita.” he smirks.

you shake your head, smiling. “well, it was pleasure meeting you as well, officer o’hara. bye gabi, see you on monday!” you smile at the little girl.

“bye, miss! see you on monday!” she waves with a smile as she and miguel start walking away.

you and miguel share one last glance and smile before parting ways.

I think another clear theme of Spiderverse is that, as we’re told in the first movie, anyone can be Spider-Man. But in the second movie, Miguel tells us that Spider-Man has rules. Certain things have to happen, certain people have to die, certain people aren’t meant to be Spider-Man. And the message there is that, once someone makes those kinds of rules, you run. Because it’s just not true. Anyone, literally anyone, can be Spider-Man. There is no requirement. We’ve been shown you don’t even need to be bitten by a spider!

And with the amount of people comparing Spiderverse to the queer experience, this is especially important. There are no rules to being queer. There are no labels that are exclusive. There are no labels that are even required. As soon as someone says you can’t be queer in a certain way, or certain identities don’t ‘count’ for whatever reason, you need to run. They are liars. There are no rules, and there never have been. You are queer because you said so, and this is your decision alone.

If you decide you’re Spider-Man, then you’re Spider-Man. And if you decide you’re going to save everyone you can, then you will. It’s as simple as that.

You know how Peter is with his suit - VERY CASUAL

So Peter sees Miguel for the first time and he's like 'Heh, suits a bit tight ain't it?' just to poke fun at him. Y'know, lighten the mood.

Miguel says nothing of it, but then Peter looks closer for like 2 seconds and - what is that? Static??? ... Are those.. CRT lines??

And then Miguel pulls his mask back and suddenly Peter is like 'Wait.. WHAT IS THAT'

Miguel has to explain he's 'wearing' a digital suit - that it's not tight, it's just a protective projection of light-

my fav in-universe joke for spidey’s nyc is that Spidey will do something simple yet kind, like doing someone’s homework, and when that person posts the picture like “omg spidey thank uuuu” a ton of people reply with pictures of spidey doing the same thing or something very similar

My spiderverse post for the day but I don’t see the point - in fact I think it’s counterintuitive to what the story is driving at - in twisting ourselves in knots arguing whether Miles is a definitive spiderman of his universe because he actually hits the canon checkboxes like his uncle dying etc and his universe hasn’t collapsed like. That’s still a validation operating by the parameters Miguel outlined, when the entire point is that those factors are meaningless to the identity of “spiderman” in isolation. What makes their hero mantle one of worth is the choice to always try save the little people, even when they don’t succeed, and becoming fixated on the loss and it’s supposed inevitability has put them all in a place of stagnation.

Even if Miles hadn’t had a single person die in his journey thus far he’d still be a worthy spiderman. <- a point literally crystallised in Pavitr.

This ask made me scroll back in my blog and go, "Wait did I actually write the entire manifesto on why Miguel is a communist icon because I thought I had refrained from that."

I'm 95% sure that I did, in fact, refrain from explaining why there are only two good superhero media (The Incredible Hulk 1977 and Spider-man 2099) because they are the only two truly socialist superhero media. I must have mentioned that I fucking loved Spider-man 2099 somewhere. Because I fucking do. Miguel is THE character of all time. I love Spider-Man, I love characters who are COMPLETE DICKS, I love guys who just kinda wanna go home and sleep.

I absolutely would write something for him, I fucking love that guy. I haven't had a really solid idea yet, one that would make a story that would get off the ground, but if the stars align then hell yeah. Miguel is the perfect superhero because he never once tries to stop anybody from robbing a bank, committing a crime, disturbing the peace, etc. He will only ever do anything helpful if it fucks over Cyberpunk Dystopia Evil Corp, because he hates them, or if his brother nags him to do something about systematic oppression. Over the course of all of Spider-Man 2099 he stops ONE mugging. Because a cop was mugging a woman. So he could beat up the cop. Character of ALL TIME.

....this isn't a story idea but I was absolutely joking about hypothetically:

imagining one of those tepid-ass mcu spider-man fanfic where there's a class field trip to stark industies or something and peter's outed as Tony Stark's Baby Son Boy, of which there are literally 500 and every one is exactly the same I don't read mcu peter fanfic anyway

tropey fic where peter's doing that tropey hijinky runs away from crowd of friends to hide in a broom closet and preserve his secret identity

except he just opens the door to an abandoned wet lab to see miguel electrocuting a rat or something

peter is fucking convinced dr ohara is a mad scientist stealing starktech genetic secrets. tony doesn't listen because he thinks peters feelings are just hurt after miguel called him the saltine cracker of nepotism. miguel is, of course, stealing starktech time travel technology. meanwhile a guy in a black spider suit is firebombing the NYPD

miguel assumes that the richer and more important you are, the more evil you are. faced with involuntary time travel, he is operating under his standard MO of finding the most evil corporation in the tristate area and looking them up on glassdoor. working under this assumption, miguel assumes itll be too much work to go ahead and kill tony stark in the name of the proletariat but he does slowly sabotage their entire genetics division.

sorry for those who were looking forward to the series. sometimes things just don’t work out :(

atsv is trying to deconstruct the idea of a heroes backstory and i do love them challenging the idea presented of canon events and those specifically being the death of someone close to spiderman in part because the idea that a person’s sole purpose is to die to allow spiderman to become a hero is not only grim but fucking insane, and has some weird little implications. however! i don’t necessarily think Miguel was the right guy to present this point lmao like his origin story is built to be different from Peter’s and his entire run is him seeing spiderman as a burden he doesn’t want to be carrying so him acting like the authority on what constitutes as a “canon event” or even believing in that theory makes absolutely no sense?

Fixing Spidey's Cannon Event

Part 1

After watching spider-man 2003 (title it too long lol) I felt sorry for Peter. I was expecting the finally ending with Peter revealing his secret identity to MJ and being in a relationship with her again. But nope, it went a whole 180 ruining his life even more making it to the point where Peter couldn't really do it anymore because his reputation as spider-man was ruined.

While making this comic I was thinking maybe after the event when Miles was teleported to the wrong dimension (corrupted universe). Maybe some of the spider-man in the society are rethinking about the whole cannon event.

Peter 3 wanted to help Peter 760702 after learning more about Miles saving Peter 616B's life. But Peter 1 tells him it's impossible because that dimension's cannon event is corrupted and off limits. But Peter 3 doesn't buy it and goes in the portal anyway. Peter 2 on the other hand, over heard their conversation and decided to hitch along after Peter 1 and 3 jump in a dimensional portal that's off limits.
