First pass at a revamp of an old species. Just gonna call them Daws for now. These aren't quite the shapes I want but I like the spots.

Dinner party at Castle Ravenloft from a couple months back. Some people are more excited to be there than others.
Hang in there, Ireena!

Now that I'm no longer feeling Completely Worthless[TM], here's a couple of tips for making music with your computer.
With your plugins, save every single interesting thing you come up with. Don't worry about if it's too specific to one song, it isn't. Even if the sound itself isn't useful for something, other parts of that patch might be.
Install the standalone version of your virtual instruments. Play around with them. Play songs you're familiar with.
Do covers! Even if you can't publish them online, it's a great exercise in putting a song together without the pressure of writing it.
Cut your bass. Unless the instrument is supposed to be the foundation, like a kick drum or a bass line, cut those lows. Even if it is the foundation, a gentle 6db/octave highpass will keep the whole mix from getting blown out. If it's a lead instrument, try a a 12db/oct at 100 or 150hz
Save everything, period. Save your MIDI, save your bad takes, save the wrapper from your microphones (ok not really), but everything is useful for something, even the mistakes.
Don't bother sending your stuff to get mastered, learn to do it yourself. It isn't that hard.
I'll have more later but i have to go to work!

An Addictive Alternative To DAWs

From electric guitars to samplers to drum machines and beyond, the music we love is only possible thanks to the technology used to create it. In many ways, the history of popular music is really a history of technological innovation. In this episode, we partnered with BandLab to unpack four inventions that changed music forever. Featuring author and journalist Greg Milner.
