Tolkien Fandom Event Calendar

Recently I’ve received some asks about events/weeks in the Tolkien fandom, so I thought I’d compile a list of those that I know about. This is not exhaustive, and dates are subject to change by the organizers of these events!

Other blogs you can check out are @tolkieneventsblog and @tolkienfandomevents, though I’m not sure how active those are. The @silmarillionwritersguild Discord also has a channel dedicated to signal boosts for all sorts of Tolkien-related & general fandom happenings, which is another excellent way to keep up with fandom goings-on.

Peter Parker's December Shenanigans  [1999]

A collection of related short stories that center around Winter/Christmas. Everything from Advent to New Year's Eve. [This fic is a continuation of Peter Parker's October but could also be read alone.]

The Definition of Anything  [2020]

The heater in Peter's apartment goes out on the coldest day of the year and the landlord seemed to be overrun with maintenance requests. Calling Tony to help him out seemed like the next logical solution. After all, he had told him many, many times that he should call him if he ever needed anything.  The man had never really specified what 'anything' meant but he figured that by definition, 'I'm cold and you know how to fix things.', fell into that category. Right?

Secret Sugarplum Spiderling [2020]

Peter has been taking ballet for nearly as long as he can remember and all of his hard work has finally paid off. He's been cast as the Cavelier to the Sugarplum Fairy in his Performing Arts School's production of The Nutcracker. It's a big deal and it's going to take up a good bit of time but... he's just not sure he's ready for his mentor to know about that particular hobby just yet. He's sure it'll be fine ... All he has to do is show up at the studio on time, keep his grades up, make sure to see Tony on a regular enough basis that he doesn't worry and try to squeeze in some patrolling in between. It's that simple. Right?

Holiday Traditions [2021]

When a brief misunderstanding leaves Morgan thinking that Peter doesn’t like Christmas, Peter decides that it would be fun to teach her more about Hanukkah. In order to do so, he and May invite the Starks' to share in some of their holiday traditions.[This story is part of a post-Endgame AU. However, it can easily be read on it's own!]

Well, Merry Sickmas, I Guess [2021]

Peter is sick, Christmas is right around the corner and May had no idea how to help him. Naturally they end up in Tony’s medbay. It doesn’t take long for Peter to be diagnosed with nothing more than some mild dehydration and a nasty stomach bug. However, knowing she can’t take Peter to just any hospital should things go downhill, leaves May feeling a little nervous. …And that’s how Peter and May end up spending the holiday with Tony Stark in his Penthouse apartment. [12/14] Now featuring a short and completely unplanned Bruce Banner centric chapter 2!

Merry Stitchamas  [2022]

All Peter wanted to was to cook May a really nice dinner for when she got home from her Christmas Eve shift. He'd thought it out and was excited to put it all together-- until the knife slipped and he accidentally cut his thumb. The good news is, he knows exactly who to call.

“Hey, Mr. Stark!” Peter greeted with as much enthusiasm as he could pull together given the circumstances. “I, uh, I know it’s Christmas Eve and all, but can I ask you a really quick question?”

Calm Still Night  [2022]

Just a quick fic about Tony enjoying the Penthouse's warm Christmasy atmosphere with Peter by his side.

Seeing is Believing  [2022]

Young Peter Parker, who has started doubting the existence of Christmas Magic, is given the opportunity to board a train heading for the North Pole. The entire night is one big adventure as he meets new friends, makes some spontaneous decisions, and has the best, most magical time of his life. [This fic is based on the film version of The Polar Express. However, you don't have to have seen the movie to enjoy the story!]

Snow-cation [2023]

After Tony's elaborate family winter getaway plans are grounded due to the early arrival of some snow, Peter does his best to make sure everyone still has a good time. Especially Tony, who seems more than a little put out by the disruption.

Toasty Warm  [2023]

Peter comes to the tower after a night of patrolling in the cold- with a broken heater. Tony helps him warm up, with hot cocoa and warm blankets, and a hoodie straight from the dryer.

🆕 Best Night Ever  [2023]

Peter’s been promised a night of ice skating. At first, things didn't go quite as he planned. But in a joyful turn of events, he ends up having a night filled with unexpected surprises, a walk in the snow, the promised ice skating adventure and several heartwarming moments. It all wraps up with a few holiday treats and a lot of family bonding.

Santa Impersonator Happy [Dec. 14th 2023]

Happy walks into the F.E.A.S.T. building prepared to drop off a check and leave. Then Peter uses his big brown eyes to convince him to stay and help out. He just wished he'd asked a few more questions before agreeing.

"Santa. You want me to dress up as- Santa?

How Spidey Saved Christmas [Dedc. 20th 2023]

After rescuing a few stolen shopping bags, Spider-Man stumbles upon Santa Claus and his damaged sleigh in Central Park. With Tony's help, Peter is able to get Santa back in the air, thus saving Christmas. As an added bonus, he’s able to get Tony back the nice list as well. Santa thanks Peter by inviting him to assist in delivering some gifts Including the ones he’d saved! Together, they fly through the night, spreading holiday cheer. "Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!"

Advent Calendar 2019 (ao3) - Phantje

Summary: Dan and Phil are best friends. Also, Dan loves Phil, but Phil doesn't need to know that, especially as it could unredeemably change their relationship. Also, Dan loves being part of Phil's daughter Ashley's life. As long as he can stay close to them and see them be happy, he should be fine.

When Phil asks him for a favour, Dan agrees without hesitating, unaware of how much a taste of his dream life would affect him.

A December-y story of Dan growing in his love for Phil, and Phil discovering his love which has always been there.

Advent Calendar 2021 (ao3) - Phantje

Summary: Phil lives and works in a town in the North called Lylchester. Well, 'works'. He does charitable things in the name of being nice and his (adoptive) parents. Things are fine. Yeah. Fine. Meeting Dan who has strong opinions about peculiar things shakes up Phil's life and he is falling before he can help it.

Dan lives and works somewhere, or anywhere really. By fate, or call it the British Railway train running times, he ends up in Lylchester. Before he can help himself, he has made the first real best friend he has ever had - Beatrix. And suddenly, life does not seem so difficult anymore. Dan appreciates the work he can do, even if it has him interact with the rich idiot Phil more often that he would personally choose.

Summary: An argument starts it all. Hell comes after for Dan Howell, the school pastel boy. He only wanted to help, but got backstabbed in the end. From safe position in the school hierarchy, Dan is up to neck in an affair he never had and starts finding threats in his locker. He needs someone on his side if he wants to make it to the end of high school. A mysterious punk boy promises him protection. The condition he needs to meet, though, is far from normal.

Ficlet Advent Calendar 2022

In the past 3 years I was doing an advent calendar challenge to write a short fic every day from December 1 to 24. And since I was having a lot of fun with these little ficlets, I decided to do this challenge this year, too. (Although I’m not sure if I can finish it on time - I could only do that two years ago when the usual Christmas Chaos was cancelled due to covid)

Like in the previous years, I’ll be taking prompts as well: I have a list of Christmas/Winter writing prompts, so feel free to send me some with the characters and/or pairings you’d like me to write it, and I’ll add it to the challenge! Also, if something comes to your mind that’s not on the list, you can send me that, too! I only use the prompt list as a guideline anyways. Although I do reserve the right to say no to a prompt.

My advent calendar challenges are multifandom, so it can happen that in one chapter we have Mr Carson decorating the Christmas tree and in the next one Kingsman agents are having a sleepover. Just like in the previous years, you can expect some silly festive fluff with a bit of angst, and there will be Christmas sweaters as well.

Based on the current state of my brain, this year’s challenge will most probably be related to Top Gun (both films), Downton Abbey, Gossip Girl, Our Flag Means Death, Ted Lasso, and The Bodyguard (which is my Kingsman - Eurovision Song Contest crossover), but other fandoms might be involved as well, so if you have a prompt from a fandom that’s not on the list, please still send it in!

Also, this year I’ve decided to put together some “best of” posts from the previous challenges to give those fics some love, because some of them turned out pretty neat and when else shall I re-share my Christmas-themed fics than in December? Those will be organized by fandoms (like Christmas at Donwton) or by topics (Santa Claus or Snow).

Since this challenge will be quite intense, my other fics will be on hold, so there won’t be any updates on Dancing on the clouds below and on For a little bit of sunshine during the challenge. Although this doesn’t mean there will not be chapters set in the same verse as these fics. ;)

december fic advent 2021 ❤️🎄✨

and here we are again, the end of the christmas period, another 25 fics done! thank you SO much to everyone that supported me these last 25 days leading up to christmas, without your love i don’t think i would have found the motivation to keep writing, so to everyone who left a kudos or a comment or even just reblogged the tumblr posts, thank you, from the bottom of my heart.

but as fun as the fics are, this isn’t the whole reason why i do these fic advents every year – it’s a reason to give back, to those who may not be fortunate as us. so whilst i hope you’ve been enjoying my fics, i’d really appreciate it if you took the time to read about this years designated charity: black minds matter.

black minds matter is a uk charity that specialises in getting black families or individuals the help the need as well as deserve. when it comes to mental health, everybody deserves to be heard, and unfortunately poc can often be overlooked or not taken seriously. and that needs to change. so this charity aims to do exactly that!

i’ve chosen this charity this year because whilst i am somewhat new to this fandom, it doesn’t mean i’m blind to what racism lies beneath it. seeing a lot of hatred and a lot of hurt can be difficult. it shouldn’t happen, and everyone deserves a safe space. whether that’s in an online community, or a therapists office, nobody should feel less than because of the colour of their skin.

so, as per my tradition, i have donated £25 for 25 fics. whilst it’s not the most money in the world, a little can always go a long way, and i urge anyone to perhaps consider donating as well. the festive period can be difficult, and knowing somebody may benefit from that donation alone to make the holidays a little more bearable is what makes me happy to do this every year. and of course, if you’re unable to donate, that’s fine! i’d appreciate a reblog just to circle the post around - the more the merrier! here’s my donation receipt, i’d love to see yours in the replies (again, only if you can)

so once again, THANK YOU for all your love and support and cheerleading, it really has meant the world to me. i look forward to these every year, and this time around is no different. thank you so so much. i hope you’ve enjoyed reading them as much as i have writing them.

Louis is too busy with his career to bother about relationships, but in an attempt to appease his Nan, he sends her photoshopped pictures of him and his pretend boyfriend, Harry. The fact that the man in the pictures is none other than Harry Styles, world famous Gucci model—and recurrent star of Louis’ fantasies—is irrelevant. It’s not like their paths will ever cross…

So, it comes as somewhat of a surprise when Louis returns home for Christmas and walks into his Nan’s sitting room only to find the real-life Harry Styles happily chatting away with the grey-haired ladies of his Nan’s Crochet Circle.

Featuring Niall and Liam as Louis’ childhood friends, Harry as the painfully perfect man of Louis’ dreams, Zayn as Harry’s very protective best mate, Louis’ Nan as a well-meaning matchmaker, and Louis as a guy who thinks he’s happy with his life, until a certain someone shows him what he’s been missing.

Kurt Hummel paced back-and-forth in his bedroom while talking on the phone to the photographer he’d hired to take photos at his fashion show. “Excuse me?” he said, with barely controlled anger. “What do you mean you ‘have to cancel’?”

There was an extended beat of silence coming from the other side of the phone. For a moment, Kurt thought the man had hung up on him. “I got a better offer. Unless you are willing to give me a 25% raise, then I am no longer available to work the show on the 18th.”

“You know I can’t afford to give you any kind of raise, let alone a 25% raise. Besides, you signed a legally-binding contract! You have to work the show…for the agreed upon salary. It’s in two days. I don’t have enough time to hire someone else.”
