y’all, i’m crying tears of joy

applied to a local bakery on a whim and interviewed right as i was beginning to feel sick last week but! just got the call and they offered me the assistant baker position. i am so beyond happy and excited

as some of y’all know, i love to bake. have done it professionally on and off the past five years but omg to be back in that setting and be seen as competent in something i have passion for? i’m floating

i really thought this year was gonna turn into 2023 part ii, aka very depressing and just bad. but the move (despite being so stressful and riddled with worries) was probably the best thing I could’ve done to get my life back on track

I will say, and this is not a dig at friends/mutuals who do like it just to be clear. But my personal enjoyment of Veilguard has lessened since backplaying the other games tbh.

Icelyn Opens her Aurora Bakehouse!

Looking up at the Aurora-filled sky of the Celestial Peaks, Icelyn looked back to review the interior of the cozy new shopfront of the Aurora Bakehouse, "Couldn't be a better time to open up our brand new store could it Drift?" She remarks to their snowy-colored companion, who is busying itself stocking the shelves.

Drift turned from a shelf baking goods that it was arranging to give a confident nod of approval to Icelyn. It sits back on its haunches and reviews its progress, twitching its ears to-and-fro momentarily, before gesturing to the shelves expectantly.

Stepping up behind the Wolperjack and bending forward to inspect the shelves thoughtfully, Icelyn clasps her hands together with excitement, "Wow, Drift these shelves have been put together so neatly, you have all the dry ingredients together-- oh, and look there is all the eggs and dairy!"

"This is so impressive, I couldn't have arranged these so nicely myself, I am so glad to have you to help me buddy.... but where are the decoration ingredients?" Icelyn looked around quickly to find the remaining items.

They turned to face a wall of colorful sprinkles, and her expression explodes with delight, "Wow you even color-coordinated them, how fantastic! And Look at the icing packets too!"

Drift closed its eyes contentedly and puffs out it's chest with pride, clearly feeling pleased with its hard work and meticulous placements of the stock.

"I hope the Adventurers are eager to bake up a storm, it seems everyone has been enjoying the Gingerroot Cookies from the Winterlight Machine, and I just know that baking some together will be even more fun!" Icelyn announces vibrantly, " Alright, it's time to turn over the sign and let the Adventurers roll in."

Another facet of my discomfort with Willow as a character in Littlewood is the fact that one of Willow’s requirements to 100% her home requests is to have her home placed close to the player’s home. Sure, this is technically optional, but if you want to 100% your save you HAVE to do this. As far as I remember, no other character has this type of home request where they request to be within a certain distance of a specific person, only certain town amenities.

It further makes it feel like the other characters are less important than Willow. And it makes things even more uncomfortable if you dislike Willow for any reason or aren’t attracted to women, or if you marry a different character. I bring it up again because it’s such a strange and unnecessary addition to a lighthearted game where it feels like every romancible character should have an equal shot at the Hero of Solemn. In general I have a pretty strong distaste for games that insist or imply that a particular character is the “right answer” when it comes to romance. Like, if there’s only one objective choice, why make the game have a marriage/romance mechanic at all?

Also it gets in the way in the player’s freedom to design the town as they like. Players usually like making their house stand out from their residents by method of location and natural features. What if I prefer having willow literally anywhere else? What if I want my house to be on a big hill or have a mote away from others for aesthetics/symmetry reasons or have the residents in a simple grid pattern while still fulfilling their other requests?

Everytime I see your Pat lolcalization posts, I can't help but think if this is him overcompensating for voicing the character of n*zi germany in the first seasons of the hetalia anime.

I can't say and I'd rather not say anything about Pat's intent or own agenda or whatever -

But the interesting "lolcalisation changes" and direction give to VAs really seem to favour a certain reading of the events happening in FE16 and to this day, I still can't understand how that managed to be released without getting at least some flak.

Sure Fates' lolcalisation is a tough nut to beat and nothing comes quite close to what happened to Fates to FE16/Nopes, and yet I wish I am joking when I say nearly 80% of the lines involving Supreme Leader and/or Rhea/the CoS should be double checked, because "Dany expy bringing a revolution" has to fit in the story that is FE16, and that's talking about the washed down version of Dany some people have and not the one who uses violence for the greater good, until she starts to realise that the "greater good" is as solid as smoke and runs away from the - well-intentioned ! - mess she created.

Again, I don't think anything was malicious with the lolcalisation Fodlan got, is it just a case of misunderstanding the game and slapping archetypes and "trendy notions" to make this "strange" game sell like hotcakes in your home market?

Or is it another case of "think of the children Susan" where Susan sure as hell can't endorse a character presented as the heroine sprout disgusting things and advocate for imperialism 101 so the heroine is now rewritten?

Or is it the lolcalisation team - after looking at the jp script - try to make the general idea of "you must feel bad for this character" somehow work, because they thought no one would seriously want to walk with her and feel any sort of sad uwus for the "you have pointy ears, you cannot rule over humans" red emperor? So they modified the script and directed the VA accordingly ?

IDK, but I think if you've been long enough on this blog you know my stance on localisation and lolcalisation but this discrepency between the two versions (or at least two audios) really took me by surprise when the game was released in 2019 lol

Apple Crumble Recipe

Crumbs

2 cups flour

1 cup sugar

1 cup oil

1 tsp baking powder

1 tsp vanilla extract

1 egg

Apples

Apples (around 3-5 depending on how much you like apples)

Cinnamon and sugar (enough to coat the apples)

Instructions

Preheat oven to 350°F

Put all the crumb ingredients together and mix it.

Slice apples into little chunks and coat them in cinnamon+sugar

Put a layer of crumb mixture in a dish or pan (I use 9×13 but it doesn't matter that much)

Put apples on top of that

Put the rest of the crumbs on top

Stick it in the oven for an hour

Been busy baking these past couple days in preparation for Thabksgiving, so game dev work has been putting hild till Friday. In the meantime, here's some pictures of what I made! An apple pie and pumpkin bread!
