Doing GM Advice on a new Streaming Platform for Evil Hat

Evil Hat has invited me to do GM advice for Thirsty Sword Lesbians on this new Platform Moonbeam and I am really excited to do this with Nomo and Lily. I've run for and been a player for Nomo and Lily in Thirsty Sword Lesbians multiple times. Their both amazingly talented GMs who both come at Thirsty Sword Lesbians from different angles.

I've got to do lots of design work on TSL but I am also fairly confident that I am the person on this planet who has GMed the most games of Thirsty Sword Lesbians with I think around 100 sessions GMed and even more played. I really love this game and I have watched tons of the live streams and most podcasts too. I have tons and tons of thoughts on common errors new GMs make in TSL and lots of experience to draw from my own mistakes, lessons and just things I have found my players really like.

While I'd love to do more written advice getting to do a 2 Hour Live stream followed by a 1 hour fire side chat is really a place where I will be able to go into the details, the little questions and stuff I just couldn't really get to in writing while also like working on all my projects. Plus you'll get the perspectives of the other two amazing panelists who really are two of my favorite GMs in the world even outside of TSL. I've played lots of exciting stuff with them at different tables and I really trust their advice too.

Not only that but the amazing Sean Nittner is going to be moderating for us and he is such a talent. I've worked with him lots of times both as a TTRPG designer and on live streams and he is really great at keeping everyone on target, making sure things run smooth and everything. We're in amazing hands with him at the wheel.

The Moonbeam platform itself seems really interesting, I don't have full knowledge of it yet but I do like the idea and I think it's a promising platform even if there are things that seem like potential flaws. I love the idea of having like Discord + Twitch built in all together especially with both companies increasingly fucking up and getting greedier. I'd like to run a realm for folks but we'll see how the platform works out and like what they offer me.

Sanguine Games uses dice pools with variable sizes of dice in their Cardinal System games, which include Ironclaw, Myriad Song, Urban Jungle, and the upcoming Eumorphica.

Your dice can come from your Traits (base attributes), your Species, your Career, the marks you put into individual Skills, and your Gifts.

You may have, for instance, a roll of d12, 2d10, d8, d4. You roll them and take the highest score, comparing it to either a Difficulty roll or an Opposed roll against another character's pool. You can score multiple successes if you roll well.

I'm thinking dice pool system but with variable sizes of dice

Like, imagine a system where to make a check you grab a bunch of dice and every single die that shows a result of 4 or higher is a success. d4 is of course the lowest die you can have and thus each d4 yields a success 25% of the time. The bump to d6 increases that to 50%, but the jump to d8 only increases it to 62.50%. There's thus a built-in system or diminishing returns.

But since this is a dice pool system, where do the dice come from? Having the number of dice be derived from skill but the size of each die determined by ability could be one way. But it might also be interesting to have pools consisting of multiple types of dice. Alternately, one could easily propose a system where the number of dice is determined by character ability and the difficulty determines the size of dice used (1d4s would be used for more difficult checks, d12s for extremely easy checks) or even the other way around!

Anyway let's see how this develops but it could be an interesting way to allow multiple axes of character development where players can advance their characters both in terms of number of dice and dice size. Eh

The Dicepool Tavern (Or DPT if you prefer shorthand) is a dream of mine that I wish to create a real world location for one day. In the mean time, my name is Mechkura and it's a pleasure to meet you!

Dicepool Tavern is home to my stories and creative projects, mostly centered around a world called Vethera. Currently I'm working on getting the World Timeline finalised and first drafts of each story out, but I hope to add artworks and even a TTRPG to the list of things I have to offer.

Vethera is a world of both magic and modern times, deities and mortals of many kinds. Hopefully there is something for everyone, and you choose to 'stay a while, and listen', as one Deckard Cain would say, for those Diablo fans out there.
