People saying that "playing dnd doesnt have to cost anything" and "it can be fun even without all the books and expensive maps and minis" may be right but have you seen some of the dice out there????? Fucking beautiful

This Christmas hiatus for our Strahd campaign has me crawling up the walls with static energy, but at least I can direct some of it to writing in between all the travel, traffic, and end of the year tradition of cramming last minute projects and chores into the final week of December.
Still have plenty transcribing and rewriting on my plate in prep for posting day and I've not set my hands to painting in far too long, but one thing at a time

I play d&d and we currently have a…problem player so to say. I like to say Im a nice person but i know deep down im a bitch, this person genuinely grates on my nerves so much. Im going to winge a bit but I would like any advice I can get.
He speaks over other players in rp, yells at the party when we don’t want to fight a much stronger enemy that two-shot the highest level player (with disadvantage to hit), constantly argues with the dm, gets upset with the dm lets a player have a moment I assume because its not about him.
I literally don’t know how to handle this in a mature way because our dm wants us to “fix” him ig, he has a problem kicking players out which would be fine if this player didnt veto jokes by saying “its not story relevant” then spending actual 30 minutes doing ACTUAL bank talk with the dm, “does that have inflation? what are the taxes?” its exhausting. I don’t want to be the asshole that ends up yelling at him either, He constantly excuses his actions by saying hes mentally handicapped, and you can call me a dick for this but its not an excuse to try and but into another player’s moment or try to strong arm other players into doing what you want. He has this constant need for validation, for it being all about him and he wont interact with other party members, he has to be this all powerful badass that one shots enemies with 5 damage.
sorry, I’m rambling, if anyone has any advice let me know, I’m just tired.

Last night's D&D: We stop a bunch of local nutjobs from bringing a fertilizer bomb on a cart into town. Boss villain teleports away. I immediately drench the fertilizer in water. Villain comes back ten minutes later, shoots the bomb with scorching ray. DM declares, "OK, so it doesn't explode, but it's dried out now." I wait for my turn, saying nothing, knowing I have to focus on the bomb 'cause everyone else is busy... and just as I'm about to go the DM says, "Oh wait, the dragon goes first." My 32 hp wizard takes 64 damage. Cleric also drops. Bomb is untended. Me, pulling out my phone: "I'm telling the internet about you." DM: "Yeah, that's fair."

Today I thinking about dnd and how one of the reasons why my group needed new players is because one of then spent the whole campaign saying that he wanted one specific big fight and that my character was too weak and had a shitty power, just for him a couple of months after the campaign ended and we were in another campaign that he was forced in the fight he begged for and that in the next campaign he wanted to have his powers directly sampled from mine.

I need to get good at accents and/or different voices.
All of my DnD characters use my voice... except Aislyn. Aislyn has a bit lighter of a voice than mine, I think. Isla kind of has her own voice, I need to perfect it still.
I tried to do a different voice with Eleanora. It worked for one line. One stickin’ line because I couldn’t do the voice again for anything else, but, that one line. The voice was basically like Siobhan’s from Neverafter.
Kam, Alex, and Sam are all great at doing different voices and accents. I’m very lowkey jealous.
-
Mara needs her own voice, Eleanora needs one (just not sure if I’ll ever get to play her again 💔), and Cordelia needs her own too. I need to solidify Isla’s voice.
Willow (Monster of the Week) and Celeste (Sleepaway) also need their own voices too.

You ever create a dnd country and then realise that you now need over 200 names for train stations, works, docks, mountains, rivers ect? No? Yeah... me neither

man I wish people understood how much it sucks ass to be neurodivergent and trying to find the middle ground where people like/tolerate you. like, I'm either "boring" (trying to wait my turn in conversations, holding space for other people, taking a back seat to let others get some spotlight) or "too much" (too loud/talking too much, getting excited to share, trying to participate in group conversations/activities). No one really talks about how much of being neurodivergent is just sort of trying to make yourself palatable.
I feel like so much of my life has been spent trying to find this effortless sort of middle ground everyone else seems to automatically already know, and I'm always swinging too far one way or the other. I'm lucky to have neurodivergent friends who grok me, but goddamn I wish that I could just like, exist without the constant background script in my brain that's like "you're being too loud. You're not talking enough. you're being self-centered. you're being boring. you're wrong, you're wrong, you're wrong." I feel like I'm back in high school trying to make friends but stuck as the eternal "weird kid"
it's just... lonely and sucks bad.

I genuinely despise anyone who when playing DND purposefully plays dumb. Like constantly gets the party in trouble or in danger. For example, constantly charging around flinging open doors and chests without investigation checks and causing issues. Like jumping out when the party is trying to be stealthy. Anything like that. And their excuse is, "it's what my character would do!" At that point, get out, you're obnoxious and making the whole party hate you. You're ruining the playing experience for everyone else because you wanna be all quirky. Fix yourself.

Myrkul is the third wheel of the Dead Three, and you can not change my mind.
Bane and Bhaal hate each other so much, and Myrkul's just there like
"I hate both of you"
and the other two are just busy yelling at one another
I swear Bane and Bhaal are exs, and Myrkul has to now deal with this eternal falling out
I know it's technically about how Bane got the most power and Bhaal is jealous blah blah blah, but this is funnier
They are divorced, your honor
And Myrkul is just there, sick of it
