Danica Vjetric Bujan, Captain of the Valenica

I love when the dm builds an NPC specifically to be a deadly enemy combatant and not only does the party accidentally wind up forging an alliance, one of the party members winds up making out with them. (For reference, this is a pirate campaign in a homebrewed world) Danica had been hired to bring Zestolka and Ledena Azculta to a rendezvous point on the coast and then back to the island-state Zadimjen, but Ledena tried to leave without Zestolka. To stop Ledena from sharing what she’d learned, Captain Kat Maddigan (my pc) picked a fight with Danica, hoping to stall them until Zestolka’s meeting with Parvaiz, Laoc, and Willie Jack was concluded, but one thing led to another and suddenly Kat and Danica were in each others’ faces. Trying to diffuse some of the tension, Kat tried to kiss Danica on the cheek, but in stead they wound up making out on the beach. Now Danica’s ship is the first addition to the fleet Kat’s building.

For those who don't know, these are the 2nd edition and 1st edition versions of decaton modrons. I love the 1e versions of modrons SOOOO MUCH!!! They all look so terrible, I just adore them xD

Someone please explain to me why when I try to do world building and session prep my brain just doesn't want to make encounters or towns or NPCs because I just think "ah I can bullshit it the day of" but then I spend three hours designing a character and giving them a backstory and thinking what their life is like on a day to day basis, when my players will never meet him because he's dead and I just wanted to give him some details when my players run into his corpse.
