If you saw the Google Doodle earlier this month of gaming trailblazer Gerald “Jerry” Lawson, then you’ve gotten a sample of the amazing work of this week’s guest — art director and illustrator Lauren Brown.
Lauren talked to me about the ins and outs of her current role at Wizards of the Coast, which includes doing art direction for the popular Magic the Gathering game series. She also spoke about growing up in New Jersey and attending undergrad there, getting her MFA at Savannah College of Art and Design, and shared how she started her career in animation and gaming from there. Lauren is also a podcaster, so we talked shop a little bit about her show Painted in Color, and she delved into what the podcast has taught her over the years. If you’re interested in getting into animation, then I hope Lauren’s story inspires you to follow your dreams!
For extended show notes, including a full transcript of this interview, visit revisionpath.com.
Revision Path is brought to you by Lunch, a multidisciplinary creative studio in Atlanta, GA.
It is produced by Maurice Cherry and engineered and edited by RJ Basilio. Our intro voiceover is by Music Man Dre, with intro and outro music by Yellow Speaker. Transcripts provided by Brevity & Wit.

on this episode "A Guide To Summer Games Fest 2024" of this podcast, Triple Click, Jason Schreier said the following:
"EA will maybe show some of their stuff throughout these events." [the many events happening at SGF and around the SGF period]
--
"The other big thing that we know we're going to see this weekend is Dragon Age 4. So, EA has said that they will be showing Dragon Age over the summer, I expect it'll be one of those things where it's like 'we're doing a full blowout, we're gonna talk about this game, and then we're gonna release it really soon', like I expect, I expect Dragon Age 4 to be out, like, this Fall, probably in the earlier end of the Fall, would be, kinda, my educated speculation there."

Lingthusiasm Episode 88: No such thing as the oldest language
It's easy to find claims that certain languages are old or even the oldest, but which one is actually true? Fortunately, there's an easy (though unsatisfying) answer: none of them! Like how humans are all descended from other humans, even though some of us may have longer or shorter family trees found in written records, all human languages are shaped by contact with other languages. We don't even know whether the oldest language(s) was/were spoken or signed, or even whether there was a singular common ancestor language or several.
In this episode, your hosts Gretchen McCulloch and Lauren Gawne get enthusiastic about what people mean when we talk about a language as being old. We talk about how classifying languages as old or classical is often a political or cultural decision, how the materials that are used to write a language influence whether it gets preserved (from clay to bark), and how people talk about creoles and signed languages in terms of oldness and newness. And finally, how a language doesn't need to be justified in terms of its age for whether it's interesting or worthy of respect.
