#One day when I actually have the time for this I’m gonna write out an entire thing addressing on like. The nature of imperialism bc tbh#Some of y’all on here#1) have no goddamn clue what imperialism is. Even and sometimes especially if they call themselves an ‘anti-imperialist’ and#2) take on a laughably simplistic and nonsensical view on what is and isn’t imperialism. To the point where it’s like are you even trying.#This is middle school level reasoning#Anyways I would like to point it out that although he’s not a bad resource. Some of you guys seem to be unaware#That Lenin. Is not the end all be all of anti-imperialism!! Nor was he the inventor of the field or movement!!#And you really should be reading *more* than *just* lenin to get a good sense of the subject . Maybe even *gasp* someone who was#Actively more directly experiencing the effects of imperialism. Like you know. Anyone from the global south#But anyways beyond that. Even with just Lenin’s work on anti imperialism. I feel like some of y’all’s engagement with him on this is utterl#Moronic. Bc some of y’all do legitimately go ‘country says they’re communist/country has socialist policies = country is physically#incapable of being imperialist’ like genuinely are you stupid#Bc Lenin’s work is about how imperialism is the highest form of capitalism bc you are essentially exploiting a whole nation for profit and#Treating it like a commodity like you would any other commodity in capitalism. Like that’s the whole point#So like. If a country does in fact inflict that on another nation/country/whatever. That is in fact imperialism no matter what the supposed#Economic system or domestic policies of that country is.#But also that being said. I think some of y’all are being remarkably dismissive about the imperial nature of Armed Military Conquest#Which is truly and utterly insane!!!!!

Question, do superheroes that go to space and enter the Earth's orbit ever get hit by the garbage that is up there? Like did Thor had to duck multiple broken satellites when he comes to Earth? Has Clark Kent ever wrote a think piece about that garbage because he got it by it one too many times? And if they collide would the trash rain down to Earth? Would local weather forecast sound like: we are not expecting any entries from space therefore the trashrate is at its usual low of 15%.

the funny thing is that i don't think younger people - and i mean those under the age of 40 - really have a grasp on how many of today's issues can be tied back to a disastrous reagan policy:
war on drugs: reagan's aggressive escalation of the war on drugs was a catastrophic policy, primarily targeting minority communities and fueling mass incarceration. the crusade against drugs was more about controlling the Black, Latino and Native communities than addressing the actual problems of drug abuse, leading to a legacy of broken families and systemic racism within the criminal justice system.
deregulation and economic policies: reaganomics was an absolute disaster for the working class. reagan's policies of aggressive tax cuts for the rich, deregulation, and slashing social programs were nothing less than class warfare, deepening income inequality and entrenching corporate greed. these types of policies were a clear message that reagan's america was only for the wealthy elite and a loud "fuck you" to working americans.
environmental policies: despite his reputation being whitewashed thanks to the recovery of the ozone layer, reagan's environmental record was an unmitigated disaster. his administration gutted critical environmental protections and institutions like the EPA, turning a blind eye to pollution and corporate exploitation of natural resources. this blatant disregard for the planet was a clear sign of prioritizing short-term corporate profits over the future of the environment.
AIDS crisis: reagan's gross neglect of the aids crisis was nothing short of criminal and this doesn't even begin to touch on his wife's involvement. his administration's indifference to the plight of the lgbtq+ community during this devastating epidemic revealed a deep-seated bigotry and a complete failure of moral leadership.
mental health: reagan's dismantling of mental health institutions under the guise of 'reform' led directly to a surge in homelessness and a lack of support for those with mental health issues. his policies were cruel and inhumane and showed a personality-defining callous disregard for the most vulnerable in society.
labor and unions: reagan's attack on labor unions, exemplified by his handling of the patco strike, was a blatant assault on workers' rights. his actions emboldened corporations to suppress union activities, leading to a significant erosion of workers' power and rights in the workplace. he was colloquially known as "Ronnie the Union Buster Reagan"
foreign policy and military interventions: reagan's foreign policy, particularly in latin america, was imperialist and ruthless. his administration's support for dictatorships and right-wing death squads under the guise of fighting "communism" showed a complete disregard for human rights and self-determination of other nations.
public health: yes, reagan's agricultural policies actually facilitated the rise of high fructose corn syrup, once again prioritizing corporate profits over public health. this shift in the food industry has had lasting negative impacts on health, contributing to the obesity epidemic and other health issues.
privatization: reagan's push for privatization was a systematic dismantling of public services, transferring wealth and power to private corporations and further eroding the public's access to essential services.
education policies: his approach to education was more of an attack on public education than anything else, gutting funding and promoting policies that undermined equal access to quality education. this was, again, part of a broader agenda to maintain a status quo where the privileged remain in power.
this is just what i could come up with in a relatively short time and i did not even live under this man's presidency. the level at which ronald reagan has broken the united states truly can't be overstated.

I think one of the reasons the Harris / Walz ticket has so much momentum is because the campaign is genuinely trying to put out this vibe of fun. Like that's all the "brat" thing is, the coconut jokes, just being kind of silly and fun.
And I think it's working, because let's be real, we are all exhausted. It's been all about preserving democracy, defeating fascism, the past eight years. The message has been "vote for us because the country is literally on the line". The vibes are not good when we are stuck back at that fight, and not even discussing trying to make progress on things like housing, healthcare, education, etc. And the fight to just stop fascism? All still true. Project 2025 is real and is extremely scary. We can't let that man back into office.
But the vibe was "vote for us otherwise we're all fucked :(" and now has shifted to "get in, we're making popcorn and then bullying fascists." Like a lot of the issues conservatives bring up, the Harris / Walz is just not engaging them in good faith, as they shouldn't. Republicans bring up abortion, and the Dems are just like, "you want 14 year old to give birth? Weirdo" and just leave it at that. Like YES, that's what you should do. Because it SHOULDNT be a debate. And it's working. This is how you defeat the identify politics thing Republicans have been trying to push for a while. Just mocking them for the stupidity of it all. "Like seriously? You think a book can make someone gay??? Hahaha." None of the Republicans are reacting well. They can't stand it. Vance even complained about bullying!!! Like do you KNOW who picked you as vp??? It's actually laughable, because they have no room to stand on when it comes to bullying.
And a huge part of the mocking and dismissing of Republicans is that the message is clear - were done debating all this stupid stuff. We've won the last two elections' popular vote - most Americans do NOT want christo-facism. It's time to move on. And that's what gives me hope, and the feeling of hope I think a lot of people have picked up on. It's time to address all the issues we've all wished we've been addressing the past decade. It's important we move onto that, and that's the message I'm getting from this campaign (We're not going back). I think it will resonate with a lot of people, because plainly, we're all just sick of this same old news cycle and fake rage bait over things like "should women have rights?", "Should gay people be allowed to exist?" The general populace have answered YES to both these multiple times, and it is time to move on. Maybe I'm being naive, but I am genuinely excited at the idea of putting to bed these debates (it's exhausting trying to fend your very existence) and moving on to actual economic and social policies that could fix a lot of deterioration over the last 2 decades.

curious when physicists like this (below) will remember that the r squared law of electromagnetic propogation means you could basically have infinite electricity and still wouldn't be able to transport it much further than we already do because we lack superconductivity. Superconductivity would be the breakthru we need; fusion power strikes me as a fascist's wet dream but a losing defeat for the people (more monopolies) in a best case scenario
Tumblr media
article link that tumblr won't let me paste by itself for some reason but making more fancier nuclear reactors isn't even pretending to address our core problem. If you follow clean energy you know we have plenty more of it than we use, it's just a matter of collecting and storing that energy, whereas right now we only store energy in the form of unburnt fossil fuel and that is the killer monopoly that is ruining our future. I've been saying this for over 10 years, fusion, thororium, nuclear, it's all fascist bullshit. We could power our world off wind and solar but we would need the hemp-plastic-encased clean sugar batteries that are 10x as efficient as lithium ion, but capitalists need to pollute somehow.
I mean the solutions are sitting in front of us, I'm pretty busy with toxic family and whatnot so I can't get to this anytime soon but appreciative if anyone can. We can sidestep superconductivity with a good infrastructure system of clean battery distribution. Sugar batteries in trucks, on trains, in ships, and sugar batteries powering those trains, trucks, and ships. These sugar batteries are the key...all of this is easily researched and verified info.
tldr Literally just making hemp encased sugar batteries is more important than fusion power. We have more than plenty of clean energy we just haven't built the infrastructure to store and distribute that clean energy in a clean way

"SINGLE TAX MEN AND MOVEMENT," Winnipeg Tribune. December 9, 1913. Page 5. ---- W. W. Buchanan Delivers Interesting Address on Status in Old Land ---- "The Men and the Movement" was the title of the address delivered, uder the auspices of the Land Values Taxation league, in the Monarch theatre on Sunday evening by W. W. Buchanan, and it was a racy and entertaining description of the leaders of that movement in England, and their methods of work. Mr. Buchanan made his biographical sketches, veritable tables of the border, sparkling with romantic touches of incident and devotion. He contrasted Jos. Fels, the dogmatic doctrinaire who was putting his life and his fortune into teaching the truths of single tax, with Lloyd George the practical statesman who is working as much of the truth he can into the laws and administration of the land. Neither figure suffered by the comparison, but the speaker used these men of diverge talents to illustrate the varied characters necessary to carry on any great reform enterprise, and he followed it with an appeal which denounced exclusiveness and pleaded for breadth of vision and catholocity of spirit. He gave rapid pen pictures of a number of the members of the parliamentary group, devoted to the exploitation of single tax, including Neilson, Chancellor, Price. Oughtwaite, Higham, Jones, Wing and Wedgewood. He told how these men, not only fought the battles on the floor of parliament, but spent the recess in storming the country, abandoning the pleasures of home, that they might spread the doctrines of social justice.
Shrewdness of Leaders. Incidentally, Mr. Buchanan drew attention to the spirit and shrewdness of the leaders of the Liberal party in Great Britain, in the way they linked up the potency of these reform movements and brought to the party organization the enthusiasm and loyalty which characterizes the activities of these aggressive reformers who frequently criticized and prodded party leaders, as dangerous men to be read out of the ranks of the party, they are distinctly encouraged and not only kept within the party fold, but actually provided by the party machinery with constituencies which give them seats In parliament. Within a twelve month he pointed out that no less than four single tax leaders had received nominations from the Liberal party and won seats in by-elections. In two of these contests there were three cornered fights, but the fighting blood of the single taxer had helped him to snatch victory out of the face of apparent defeat. He further pointed out that the broad spirit of Liberalism in Great Britain did not make an excерtion in favor of taxers, for similar treatment was given the leaders of the temperance reform. Leif Jones, the president of the U.K. alliance, held a seat in the house. Roberts, the son-in-law of the Countess of Carlisle, at the head of the W. C. T. U. of the world, had a seat in the house, and Sir Wilfrid Lawson, son of the late baronet, was also in the house. It was evidently the policy of the Liberal party in the old land to encourage reform movements and to gather the strength of these various movements together to maintain itself in the ascendency and to keep reactionaries in opposition.
Propaganda Described. He also described the propaganda, the offices, the publications, and the methods of maintaining public agitation for the spread of single tax doctrines, and in that connection he canonized a little Scotchman named John Paul, who was the master mechanic of the organization and chief propagandist. He claims that although Henry George started this wonderful movement on this continent, the centre of activity had been transferred to the world's capital, old London, and he predicted that the victories which would be achieved there, and the enactments of the British parliament, would lead to a complete revolution in all the nations of the world with respect to taxation and would play a major part in establishing the reign of social Justice from the rivers unto the ends of the earth. He pointed out that while the philosophy of the single tax involved the removal of taxation from individual industry and enterprise and proposed only to take for the purposes of government those values which were created by society as a whole, it was at the same time a distinctly religious movement which sought to establish just relationship. Instead of regarding these between reformers who frequently men, upon the principles, and in the spirit, of Him who was the Saviour of society.

Alright US mutuals, if you are interested in, morbidly fascinated by, or anxiously doomscrolling through AI news, including Stable Diffusion, Llama, ChatGPT or Dalle, you need to be aware of this.
The US Copyright Office has submitted a request for comment from the general public. Guidelines can be found on their site, but the gist of it is that they are taking citizen statements on what your views on AI are, and how the Copyright Office should address the admittedly thorny issues in rulings.
Be polite, be succinct, and be honest. They have a list of questions or suggestions, but in truth are looking to get as much data from the general public as possible. If you have links to papers or studies examining the economic impacts of AI, they want them. If you have anecdotal stories of losing commissions, they want them. If you have legal opinions, experience using these tools, or even a layman's perspective of how much human input is required for a piece of work to gain copyright, they want it.
The deadline is Oct 18th and can be submitted via the link in the article. While the regulatory apparatus of the US is largely under sway by corporate interests, this is still the actual, official time for you to directly tell the government what you think and what they should do. Comments can be submitted by individuals or on behalf of organizations. So if you are a small business, say a print shop, you can comment on behalf of the print shop as well.

I love these fantasy romance webtoons. Everyone is insanely wealthy even by modern standards. The hierarchy of nobility doesn't make any sense (so often it's like, there's a single Duke level noble family in the entirety of an empire). Speaking of which no one knows what the difference between an empire and a kingdom is (I love Remarried Empress but you can't just declare your kingdom an empire. You have to do colonialism for that transition to happen). If there's a royal family they have full palaces the sizes of minor cities all kind of next to each other because everyone gets their own palace. There's always a town with townspeople but never farmers to the extent that can support the economies of these places. All the men have adorable illegitimate daughters that they can bring out of poverty but we can't have those men look like bad husbands/fathers so who fucking knows how these kids are getting conceived (in at least one that I read the mom literally immaculately conceived, on purpose, with a man she met one time). In the big countries there's always the royal family and then THE DUKE OF THE NORTH and the North is always a desolate snowy wasteland that is somehow also wealthy on par with the royal family and constantly threatening their status. Everyone has vaguely western names without any regard to meaning or origin (so many little white girls named Aisha! I've never met a white Aisha in my life!) In one of them a Duke married 99 women and no one had any issue with this and also he was still inexplicably in his late 20s. Everyone is beautiful just don't look at it too long or you'll go mad

Addressing the connection between poverty and mental health problems requires a comprehensive approach that includes social policies, improved access to healthcare and mental health services, education, and efforts to reduce social stigma. Providing economic support, mental health education, and resources to individuals and families living in poverty can help break the cycle and improve overall mental well-being.
Check out the post to know more about it...
