I need all of the adults to actually take action of Steve's living conditions from the moment they realize that he has the shittiest parents ever.
After the first round with the upside down Joyce cannot comprehend when Steve tells her not to call his home since there will be no one there. His mom will certainly not take care of him, she barely even calls for important dates. He is always alone, so he will just drive home with all his injuries and make do. Steve quickly understands why neither of the Byers ever goes against her will. She checks all his injuries and makes him a makeshift bedroom in their living room until he is better. She will not take no for an answer. Steve stays for almost a month there and practically has to get a doctor's note saying he is fine now before she lets him go.
Hopper sits him down eventually and makes him explain his living situation. Steve goes in as little details as possible about it, trying to brush it off but Jim is not happy and surely not believing it. He starts building a case at the station if Steve ever needs their help and you know, prepare in case they somehow get worse. Steve will have all the evidence needed to ruin them with proof of child neglect and other much much worse.
Claudia Henderson immediately starts asking for his help as home as an excuse to have him at their place and feed him. "Steve sweetie? Can you come over and help me get the door unstuck? Can you help with the faucet? Do you think we need to repaint?" And then Steve is at their place more and more and coming back home with too much homemade food. He eventually shared it with the Munsons as he cannot eat all of that by himself before it goes bad. She also insists on teaching him how to cook and they eventually fall into a routine.
Wayne Munson immediately brings him under his wing after being Eddie's personal nurse. He asks him to come over to watch games, he calls him son knowing perfectly well the impact it has on Steve if the tears in his eyes are anything to go by. He teaches him how to maintain his car that he loves so much so he doesnt get taken advantage of for being a Harrington. He gets him his own mug to add to the collection and drinks his coffee in silence pretty much every morning with Wayne while Eddie is still snoozing in his room.
Karen Wheeler starts making 3 sets of lunches. She sends him his lunch with Mike, which kills Mike's soul every day. "First Nancy, then my mom and now Eddie? What is it with you Steve?"
Steve by S4 has a whole routine for his week. - Sundays cooking with the Hendersons. They cook together and Steve and Claudia exchange new recipes and try new ones every week. - Mondays are spent at his own place and Hopper comes by after the end of his shift and they just watch TV and chat about their day with a beer in their hands. - Tuesdays is family dinner at the Byers. Steve always brings desert (that he learned from Claudia) even tho Joyce tells him that only his presence is needed. They usually catch up while doing the dishes. - Wednesdays he has a late shift at Family Video with Robin but he always takes time to chat with her parents before they get on their way. - Thursdays is DnD night, so he brings the little gremlins home. Not without a quick chat with their mothers tho. - Fridays and Saturdays are usually nights spent with Eddie, and by proxy with Wayne as well. They have dinner and if Wayne is still up for it they watch a movie. Most of the time he is asleep halfway, but they dont mind. Wayne brings a homey feeling to the place, his soft snores a background noise to their night.
So then the Harrington's come back after everything and they throw Steve out of the house for being a disappointment and achieving nothing in life. They will not just let him live rent free while he wastes away being nobody in this dead town. He is nothing but a shame to their name.
Imagine their absolute surprise when see 4 adults basically fighting in their frontyard over who will adopt Steve. Claudia is begging Steve to choose her and that way him and Dustin can finally be actual brothers. He would have his own room and they could decorate it together and they would always be just a few meters away. Then Joyce is saying that she basically adopted him since 83 and he IS family already. Putting on paper would just be the last step to it. Hopper is saying that he has been taking care of him since the first "disaster" unlike his own parents. He doesnt insist much since they all live together with Joyce now, so she can do the fighting for him.
And then Steve turns to Wayne, waiting for his arguments to be his official son now, but Wayne just casually shrugs and looks at the others. Steve lets go of a small "oh", his heart breaking a little even tho there are literal adults fighting for him right now, he foolishly expected the same from him. and when Wayne notices this, he is very quick to correct him. "Steve, don't get this wrong son. I am not fighting with them because it would be unfair. They are trying their best to make you one of them, but I have an advantage. You will be a Munson sooner or later, no matter who adopts you. My boy will make an honest man out of you, I raised him right after all" and he squeezes his shoulder. Steve just stares at him, face bright red while his eyes begin to water.

The bell rang throughout the halls, bringing utmost relief to the students as simultaneously bags were being stuffed full of notebooks and pens that had been used only a second ago. Each school bell meant the end of the school day was closer, that was how you liked to process the day anyway, looking forward to the very last ring for the start of the weekend.
Shuffling through the masses of students in the hallway, like clockwork you headed in the direction of your perfectly decorated locker, needing to swap the textbooks for the next class. In your own little world, you almost missed the yellow folded-up note that had been wedged into the locker door. Taking a quick glance around to make sure no one was watching, you quickly snatched up the note, knowing already exactly who it was from.
It did take you a few times to spin the note in an attempt to try and understand the handwriting as it was scrawled on quickly and half-smudged but it definitely had the words “USUAL SPOT, 1:45”.
A giddy smile was trying to creep its way onto your face and you were quick to bite your bottom lip to try and hide your emotions but the thumping from your heart increased in rhythm as the bell for the beginning of class rang and the hoard of students stumbled into their classes. Watching from the corner of your eye, as there were only a handful of students left in the corridor, you closed your locker and walked with a brisk pace towards the exit.
The key to leaving school in the middle of the day was walking with confidence as if a teacher had sent you on an errand. Don’t look over your shoulder and don’t second guess yourself, walk straight out of the doors and don’t look back. You had a good teacher explain this to you, or a bad influence it depends on who you were discussing it with.
Said bad influence was leaning out of his van window, half-smoked cigarette in his mouth, chin resting on his folded up arms as he waited patiently, the keys in the ignition ready to go. The corners of his mouth quipped up as he saw you walking confidently around the corner from the exit of the school, just like he’d taught you.
Taking one last exaggerated drag from the cigarette, Eddie flicked it to the ground, blowing the smoke out slowly as he turned the ignition on, the van roaring to life.
Your pace quickened as you heard the death machine being turned on, noticing that Eddie was watching in the wing mirror as you ran the last few steps, opening the backdoors and climbing into the back of his van.
This arrangement had been secretly occurring for nearly five months now, without another soul discovering it. To everyone else, you were simply in the same friendship group, regularly hanging out at the mall or playing DnD with all your other friends. However during times like these, when everyone was preoccupied with classes or busy with their families of the evening, together in the shadows of his van is where you’d both be.
It wasn’t like you were intentionally wanting to hide the relationship as the two of you were already labelled as ‘freaks’ at the school, it was more for the relentless bullying from your so-called friends that had you both keeping the guard up. If any of them found you that the two of you were secretly hooking up for months, it was sure to blow their minds, and you just weren’t ready to have that conversation with any of them yet, especially the younger ones like Dustin. Anyway, the two of you found it all the more thrilling and exciting, sharing looks to one another across the room that would last for a fraction too long, or brushing hands secretly under the table where no one was watching, it was nice to have these little secret moments.
However, the times like now, being able to sneak away from class without anyone knowing to do ungodly things to each other in the back of his van, were the moments that you most looked forward to.
As you heaved the door closed, Eddie was already driving down the street, not wanting to waste any time getting to your special hiding spot, both needing to be back for the final class. Missing one class was fine but two was pushing it.
“Your handwriting is really getting awful you know, Munson”, you grunted awkwardly, climbing over the thin mattress and sheets Eddie had installed into the back of his van for his “hangouts” but it was mostly the two of you who lay there.
“Good to see you too, sweetheart”, his voice was laced with sarcasm as he continued to drive up the road, the wind rushing through the window causing his hair to fly in all directions.
“I only saw you like an hour ago”, referring to lunch where your group of friends sat together and decided on a time to meet at the mall later with Steve, Robin, Nancy and Jonathon after school finished. As you finished your sentence, you finally reached Eddie, making sure your body was positioned behind the seat still so that passers-by wouldn't notice you but not like they could even make out any of your features behind Eddie’s hair.
Reaching around his shoulders, you hugged him from behind, hands laying on his chest and face nuzzled into the back of his neck. It had been a few days since you both had been able to spend time alone and you’d even go as far as to say you missed the smoky, leathery scent of him.
Eddie very much felt the same, keeping one hand on the wheel, he lifted the other to grasp one of your daintier hands, squeezing it affectionately for a second. You savoured the feeling of his rough fingertips from his guitar playing and the cooler metal from his fingers as he bought your hand towards his mouth so he could kiss the back of your knuckles a few times and then return his hand back to the steering wheel.
“I was worried I wasn't going to be able to see you, Sinclair nearly caught me sneaking my note into your locker”, Eddie explained, turning the car quickly down a street that had significantly fewer houses as you neared closer to your hiding place.
Holding on tightly to the back of his seat as the van swerved, making sure to stay low and hidden but also not to fall you contemplated his words whilst watching over his shoulder as the scenery sped past.
“How did you fend him off?” you inquired, softly humming afterwards along to the Black Sabbath cassette that was always playing.
“Didn’t have to in the end, one of his idiot jock friends grabbed him to talk about baseball or basketball or whatever shit that it is that they play”, he grumbled lowly, rocking up and down on the seat as he took you down the recognisable dirt road.
“What a relief!” you grinned, letting go of the seat as the van came to a halt finally in a deserted patch of land that was surrounded by nothing but trees, Eddie always knew where to hide where no one could find you.
Eddie rolled up the windows and then switched off the engine, leaving you both in silence. That didn’t last long however as Eddie turned with his usual shit-eating grin, agreeing “what a relief indeed, darlin’”. Kneeling on his seat, so Eddie could reach across, cup your cheeks with his ringed fingers and bring both of your faces together.
Your eyes closed on the impact of his soft lips against yours, his smoke-scented cheeks wafting in your nose as it pressed again him, the smell almost a comfort to you. Lifting your hands, you gripped onto his wrists, feeling the cold chain and watch on opposite wrists.
Simultaneously, both of you smiled into the kiss, causing it to break and his forehead to rest on yours. It always started like this, all giddy and soft feelings but as he began to climb over his chair and you moved back to give him room, you could feel the tension shifting into something more intense.
Eddie was easing you back onto the van floor in only a blink, his weight laying over you as his hands caressed through your hair, making sure it was his hands that took the brunt of laying back rather than your head. You were just as eager to reach for him, gripping a handful of both his leather jacket and denim vest tightly enough that your knuckles ached but you didn’t care, needing to feel his mouth on yours.
Everything was breathless, the sweet kisses that developed into desperate swipes of his tongue against yours, teeth clinging onto bottom lips, opening your mouth wide again so he could delve his tongue straight back in. He tasted overwhelmingly of Eddie: a mixture of cigarettes, chocolate milkshake that had been consumed during lunch, and something that was so uniquely him.
Your delicate fingers released their grip on his jacket, having succeeded in pulling him close but now your next mission of trying to remove his clothes. As you pushed on his jacket attempting to get it over his shoulders, you tilted your head away, also needing to breathe air before you passed out, Eddie simply moved his devotion to your throat, leaving sloppy, open-mouthed kisses along the column of your neck and along the jawbone. He craved to push the limits, wishing to bite your tender skin, wishing to mark you as his so that everyone knew that Eddie ‘the freak’ Munson could actually get the girl but the secret was more important, there would be time for that at a later date.
In the chaos of lust, you managed to whimper, “Too many clothes!” which was half a demand and half a whine as you became dizzy with desire. Eddie smiled again against your skin, loving how desperate you were already beginning to sound.
His long fingers made their way down your body, skipping over the areas you were mentally begging him to grip until he found the button on your denim shorts, unbuttoning them in one simple snap. This seemed to break you out of the lapse in judgement as you reached low and stopped his hands.
“Wait, I’m wearing tights!”
“Not for much longer” he chuckled, trying to lean back in for a kiss, but once again you turned your head away, wanting him to listen to you.
“No Eddie, you aren’t listening, I’m wearing tights! Everyone at school has seen me in them today, if I turn up with a huge rip in them, they’re going to be suspicious and last time you tore them as you were taking them off!”
Eddie’s reaction isn’t one that you were hoping for as he chuckled from above, resting his weight on the forearm resting next to your head. Deciding on a different tactic, you pushed on his shoulders, sitting up at the same time and then began taking off your shoes.
“I’m taking them off!” your demand was finally listened to as he sat back on his heels, watching as you ungracefully took off your trainers and then began shimmering off your shorts and tights, throwing them to the side. You released a relieved breath, feeling happy with yourself and eventually looking back at Eddie’s bemused smirk, his brown eyes soft as he watched you.
“You’re weird, you know that?” he muttered affectionately, beginning to take off his jacket finally, revealing his hellfire shirt beneath, which he pulled up the sleeves, revealing the few tattoos that he had there.
Audibly you swallowed watching his movements closely. Particularly as he extended an arm, indicating for you to lie back down in the middle of the van. Following his soundless instructions quickly, you lay on the sheets, expecting him to fall into a similar position as before but instead, he simply knelt between your legs and smirked down at you.
Now that you both had taken a break, you could see the pink tinge to his cheeks and slight swelling to his lips from the heavy kissing, the sight only made you want to do it more. Biting your lip, you continued with your earlier demand, “you’re still wearing too many clothes, Eddie”.
“Mmmm”, he seemed to make the noise just to show that he was listening but made no move to actually remove his clothes. Instead, he ran his hands down your now naked thighs, the warmth of his fingers and the coolness of his rings a vast contrast that had you shivering slightly. Tilting his head, his long hair fell into his face slightly as the musician asked, “say that again”.
As you responded, he began to lower his body, hands moving further up your legs as he inched. “You are still wearing too many clothes”, your voice had quietened to only a whisper, too distracted with watching his movements too closely.
Eddie was now eye level with your eagerly awaiting cunt, still covered in your panties but he could see the visible damp stain through it, his teeth showing as he grinned. “You know that’s not what I meant”.
Your hands were gripping the sheets below tightly as your neck ached from being held up, trying to watch him but you didn’t care in the grand scheme of things. All saliva seemed to dry from your mouth you’d left it hanging open for so long as Eddie’s fingers gripped the flimsy material of your panties, waiting for you to say what he wanted.
“Eddie”, you whined, finally saying the word that he wanted. Your underwear ripped into two in a single tug and Eddie didn’t give you enough time to react before his tongue was pushing into the folds of your now exposed pussy.
Almost at once your hands were relenting their grip on the sheets and instead delving into the soft waves of Eddie’s hair, holding him close as your feet relaxed onto his shoulder blades.
This man’s fingers were renowned for his musical skills but his tongue. Oh, his tongue was warm, and thick, and licked, drank, flicked every single nerve that was begging to be caressed. Even when you couldn't think it could feel any better as he pressed the flat of his tongue against your throbbing clit, he would surprise you by slipping two fingers into your hole, curling it to match the flicking of his tongue.
Even though it took a while for you to say his name the first time, you couldn’t stop now, repeating it breathlessly, like a prayer, begging for him to never stop. Eddie Munson was a lot of things but the top of the list was being a ‘giver’, right there in that position, in between your legs was something he had dreamt about for the last few days.
The tight, knotting sensation bloomed throughout your cunt and abdomen all of a sudden, not even being able to tell him that you were able to cum before everything became a pleasurable wave. Eddie knew anyone, could see your breathing increase, the moans change pitch and the clenching of your hole around his fingers and only increased the pace, tipping you over that euphoric edge.
He kept the speed up through the pleasure until you lightly tapped him on the forehead, becoming too sensitive and needing a small break. Eddie eased his fingers out, placing them into his mouth and sucking, moaning greedily as you looked down your body with satisfied eyes and the beginnings of a sly smile.
Eddie returned the look, kissing each of your thighs once last time before you were gently kicking his shoulders back and following after him. As he sat back, you were quick to straddle him, his arms wrapping around your form, lifting up your shirt and undoing your bra in one quick movement, showing off those finger movements once more.
Once both articles of clothes were discarded, you felt incredibly vulnerable, being completely naked with Eddie still fully dressed however, it also only made you feel wetter with the amount of trust you had in him. Holding onto the sides of his face, you lowered your lips to his, not wasting another moment before hungrily kissing him, now tasting the mix of yourself with his flavours.
“Need you”, you managed to mumble against his lips. At the same time, your hold of his face dropped so you were able to reach in between your bodies, trying to find the zipper to his jeans, already feeling him straining within.
Eddie helped you, being able to swiftly undo his belt, button and zip, leaving the area open for you to eagerly reach within and grasp the warm, hard cock that was throbbing to be touched. Your hand squeezed as it moved up and down his shaft, vaguely being able to see the wet tip from his precum and as you spread it around with your thumb, Eddie closed his eyes and groaned.
If it was the weekend, you would have taken the time to prolong this little meeting but as you both had to get back to class, you didn’t waste any more time rising onto your knees, positioning the tip of his cock at your entrance. He helped you as well by shifting his hips lower, making it easier for you to drop down, gasping as inch by inch, his cock slide into you.
During that initial penetration, you always had your eyes closed, thinking about Eddie, the stretching sensation from his cock, and the feel of his hands on other parts of your body. Whereas Eddie stared at you the entire time, both feeling his cock being gloved by your perfect pussy but enjoying the pleasurable faces you were pulling.
As your fingers found their way into his hair, taking a second for your body to get used to him, Eddie leant forward. His skilful tongue flicked out over your nipple, enjoying the way it tightened before giving it a swift tease with his teeth, causing you to yelp and squeeze your cunt around his dick.
“You really have an obsession with marking me, don’t you?” your voice was filled with humour, pulling his mouth closer and beginning to roll your hips.
Neither of you wanted to mess around, needing to feel one another so as you were riding him, Eddie was snapping his hips up to meet you halfway. This movement was also causing the van to shake, with any passers-by being able to easily deduce what was happening from the shaking but neither of you cared, holding desperately onto one other.
“Eddie?”
“Yeah?” he grunted, sweat building across his forehead.
“Tell me when you're going to cum”, you demanded, holding onto him for dear life.
Eddie didn’t continue the conversation, simply kept fucking up into you, eyes drifting between watching your face and his cock disappearing into your cunt. You were doing the same, leaning in every so often to kiss him feverishly before pulling back.
You were both out of breath but nothing was stopping you, especially when that tension built in your abdomen.
“I’m gonna cum”, Eddie suddenly grunts, his eyes closing in concentration and pleasure.
“Wait, don’t cum yet, I’m so close!”, Eddie gasped at your demand and you could feel his thighs tensing as he tried to hold back, you chased your high and finally, as you shifted forward and his cock pounded into that sweet spot within, your orgasm fluttered through your pussy.
Knowing the contractive waves that your cunt was doing to Eddie’s desperate cock, you quickly pulled off and dropped to your knees, mouth sealing around his tip as he came hard.
“Fuck!”, Eddie cursed loudly, his hips rising to push his cock further in your mouth out of instinct, his hot seed coating your mouth and you were eager to swallow the salty goodness down.
After a couple of seconds, his orgasm subsided and his body collapsed to the floor. You smiled around his cock, releasing it with an exaggerated ‘pop’, eyes big as you looked up at him. “Saves me the clean up if we do it like that”, you explained as to your finale.
The two of you lay there for a couple of minutes. Eddie had rolled down a window so you could both get some fresh air and it also meant the birds outside were now audible, as well as the local brook.
Your head was laying on his chest, happily listening away to his calming heartbeat, one of your hands clasped in his resting on his stomach. Lazily, you rotated the ring with the skull on his finger, a habit you’d recently acquired from spending so much time with him and his rings were so big, your fingers automatically played with them.
Eddie was watching you do this, his head propped up by his arm behind his head, a satisfied smile on his face.
In the next instance, he was pulling off the silver skull ring from his finger, passing it to you, “you can try it on if you like, sweetheart”.
Sitting up, you took it happily, placing it on the fourth finger the same placement as he did but it was big enough that you could nearly fit two fingers within.
“I guess I won’t be stealing your jewellery anytime soon”, you teased him, holding up your ringed finger in admiration. “But I must say, this does suit me, what do you think?” You fashioned the ring in silly poses as he chuckled and watched before a thoughtful looked passed over his features and he sat up, glancing over the seat to the console.
“Shit!” he was moving instantly, causing you to jump and drop the ring somewhere in the sheets as Eddie fastened his belt and climbed into the front. “We’re going to be late! Get dressed!”
The adrenaline spike had your hands shaking as you swore yourself, attempting to dress as Eddie backed the van out of the hiding spot. Luckily it didn’t take you long to get changed because you needed to hold onto the back of Eddie’s chair again as he drove like a madman to get back.
All the whilst, you were trying to search for anything looking remotely shiny amongst the sheets but to no avail and with the way in which he was driving, the two of you were soon back to your parking spot around the corner.
“Eddie, I can’t find your ring back here”, you tried to quickly search but then you saw the time yourself, you needed to leave now! “Sorry I’ll help you search for it later, see you after class”, with a brisk kiss to his cheek, you climbed out of the van, checking that there was no one around before rushing off, just as Eddie also drove off to park at the school, making sure it didn’t look like they had arrived together.
Luckily your excuse of “I was in the toilet” worked for your couple of minutes of being late and as you sat and took out your books, realising you hadn’t had time to get the correct textbooks from your locker, you found yourself watching the clock, wishing for the very bell to ring soon.
Thankfully the next few hours rushed by with no further incidence and before long, you were sat in a large oval booth with all of your friends. Masses of fries, burgers, nuggets and shakes were covering the table top as you all laughed, joked and enjoyed spending quality time together.
You’d tried not to spend too much time looking at Eddie, something that was becoming increasingly more difficult with the extra time the two of you stayed together but you made it work, sitting across from him at the edge of the booth. Now, you could see that he hadn’t found his ring, only seeing two on the left hand, rather than three.
Leaning close to Robin, you whispered as to not announce to the group, “I’m just going for a wee!”
“Oh me too”, Robin agreed, moving to stand with you.
“Where are you both going?” Mike asked causing everyone to stop their conversations and look at you both.
“To the toilet, do we need your permission now, Wheeler?” Robin joked causing a few to laugh, including you as Mike turned a pinker colour than usual.
“Good luck in there! I’ve heard people have to fend for their lives in the toiles here”, Nancy shivered at her own statement. You and Robin pulled a disgusted face and made the dreaded trek to the bathrooms.
Nancy wasn’t too far off with her descriptions. One toilet was blocked and close to overflowing, another had muck everywhere and another two simply had the words “Out of Order” plastered across them, leaving only two lonely stalls next to each other.
Both of you groaned in disgust, choosing a cubicle each and sitting to go for a wee. However, as you unbuttoned your shorts and pulled down your shorts, tights and panties, a metallic clang could be heard from your feet. As your eyes dropped to see what it was, you could see a flash of silver which had your heart dropping and fingers instantly reaching to grab it.
However, luck was not on your side as the ring, more specifically, Eddie’s ring, rolled underneath the stall and directly into Robins. You sat down on the toilet silently cursing to yourself.
“Hey, did you drop your ring?” Robin asked, and you could hear her pick it up. “I didn’t know you wore jewellery?” Robin questioned and for a second, you thought maybe you could play it off but you had no such luck. “Wait isn’t this Eddie’s?”
“Uhh-” you had absolutely no idea how to respond. “He let me borrow it-”
“Oh my god”.
“It’s not what it looks like Robin!”
“OH, MY GOD!” Robin shouted loudly that you were sure people outside probably heard.
“Robin stop shouting! It’s not what it looks like!”
“Well, could you please explain what it's supposed to look like because I’d love to know how a part of Eddie’s jewellery that is too big for you to wear, is suddenly rolling from a cubicle that has my friend in it!”
“Shit”, you gave up, finishing using the toilet, as did Robin. You took a moment to take a deep breath, regaining your composure before opening the stall door and finding Robin standing directly in front, the ring held out for you, and a shit-eating grin spread across her face. “Shut up”.
“I haven’t even said anything yet”, Robin defended, both of you walking over to the sinks to wash your hands, you even gave the ring a bit of a wash considering the disgusting floor it had just been on and then placed it into your pocket.
Out of the corner of your eye, you could see Robin still grinning like an idiot and it only made you want the ground to swallow you whole. After a full minute of trying to look anywhere but at her, you finally addressed her.
“You can’t say a word Robin, you need to promise me that you won’t tell the others!” Robin let out an almighty screech that had you quickly covering her mouth in hopes that nobody came in to check on them. “Robin stop that!”
She pulled your hand away from her mouth, still grinning. “Sorry, I just can’t believe it! When did it even start? Do any of the others know? Why do you have his ring? Are you guys engaged?”
“Robin please let me answer the questions! It started a couple of months ago, no one knows and it needs to remain that way. And no of course we aren’t engaged Robin, I was just trying on his ring earlier and it must have gotten caught in my tights”.
“Months?! You guys have been hooking up for months and none of us knew? And what do you mean earlier? I thought you guys had classes?”
“Well… we did but you know-”
“Oh my god! During school? He really is a bad influence”, she joked and you once again were contemplating just walking out of the building and never returning.
“Robin please be serious for a moment, you can’t tell anyone, not even Steve! It’s been really nice just having our secret relationship together and no offence, but you are the worst at keeping secrets but please, promise on everything you love that you won’t tell any of the others”.
She brushed it off, laughing, “I won’t tell anyone, you can count on me”.
“I need you to promise that you won’t”.
“I promise, that I will not tell anyone that you are secretly hooking up with Eddie freaking Munson!”
Even just hearing her say that full sentence had your nerves getting the best of you, needing to take a few deep breaths to settle the nauseating anxiety before nodding, if she promises then you have to believe her. There’s not much else that could be done besides fleeing the state.
The two of you headed back to the table, “Robin, could you at least tone down the smile, please? It looks like you’ve just won the lottery”, you grumbled to your friend.
“I’ll try”. She did in fact, not try at all as she bounded back to the table like an over-excited puppy. Taking a deep breath, you sat down next to her, trying to look as inconspicuous as possible.
“What took you guys so long? We were about the send a rescue party”, Nancy joked but you didn’t have the energy to reply, picking up your milkshake and pretending to drink out of it, feeling sorry for yourself.
“Oh we were just having a swell old time in there”, Robin said in an overjoyed voice that had you rolling your eyes. “Why don’t we all play a fun game of ‘what did we all do today?’ Eddie, do you want to start?”
It was official, you were going to kill Robin later.
Eddie looked confused, glancing at everyone before going along with it. “School, like I am most days”.
“Oh really?” Robin responded in an overexaggerated voice that had you kicking her shin under the table but that didn’t stop her. “And what did you learn today at school?”
“I’m done here guys, should we all go and catch a movie or something?” you tried to talk over Robin, attempting to distract your friends but Robin only continued, raising an eyebrow at Eddie.
“Maybe the cinema sounds like a good idea” Max responded to you which you were thankful for, looking over at the redhead as she unnervingly glanced at Robin’s weird behaviour.
“Eddie, don’t you usually have three rings on that hand?” Robin continued her interrogation. Your instinct was to shout at her but no one suspected anything, not even Eddie knew that she had his ring.
“Oh yeah, I think it’s somewhere in my van” he answered easily. “So what movie do we all want to go and see? I hear-”
“Are you sure it’s in your van? 100% searched all over?” the smug woman asked, resting her head on her fists as she looked at Eddie. You weren’t sure how much longer you could deal with her teasing.
Nudging her side so that she looked at you, you attempted to ask under your breath, “Robin, can I speak to you outside?”
Robin looked at you for a couple of seconds, like she was trying to figure something out in her head and as Steve asked what Robin was doing, Robin decided to have made her mind up.
Whilst looking you in the eye, it was almost like her mouth was doing something different to what her body wanted as she blurted out, “she's been sleeping with Eddie!” Your automatic response was to shove her, “I’m sorry, sometimes I can’t help what I say!” she tried to defend.
“Everyone, she's lying, she’s making it up”, you began to say.
But your friends were already freaking out, “what?!”, “since when?!” “that’s disgusting, my poor ears”, “ew”, “aw no way!”. Every single person around the table seemed to have a different response, but the overarching theme was an unbelievable shock, most mouths hanging open as you collapsed back in your seat.
Everyone settled for a second, wanting to have full confirmation before continuing, looking back from you to Eddie who you’d not looked at for a couple of minutes. Risking a glance, you saw that he was watching you closely, with a small smile and it was enough to calm your nerves. Why were you so nervous about telling people? In fact, you had wanted to tell people for a long time but the secret relationship had been fun and exciting and now, you’d be able to actually sit and hold his hand and tell everyone that you were dating Eddie Munson.
Taking one last deep breath, you reached into your short pockets, retrieved the ring, held it for a few seconds, and smiled at Eddie before placing it on the table for everyone to see.
Eddie grinned at you having his ring which you eagerly reciprocated before all hell broke loose from your friends all freaking out together.

No Vena au where Eddie takes Chrissy under his wing when she turns to him for weed to try and get through the stress and trauma. She ends up joining his DND group, which is what convinces Steve to finally go in like Dustin keeps begging him. He's miserable about it. He wants to hate Eddie but he's making it impossible to not like him.

I know you're not taking request but I needed to share this idea and maybe your sweet followers might write it out? I know I wouldn't be able to lol.
Steddie au of little Freshman Steve Harrington being taken under the wing of sophomore Eddie Munson instead of Tommy Hagan? Like he's still a jock by way of playing baseball and being on the swim team but he plays DnD and acts like he dislikes metal just to see Eddie go on a rant about it.
(Also Eddie gives me the vibe of that one kid who was really smart in elementary/middle school, who just got everything instantly, so he didn't learn good studying habits. So then in high school and it was actually starting to challenge him, he was adrift and never got his sea legs. (Me. I was that kid lol.))
Sorry for rambling! <3
You guys remember when I was like WHOEVER SENT ME THAT ANON REQUEST PLEASE MESSAGE ME I HAVE THOUGHTS.
these are those thoughts
I made this a whole thing. I'm not sorry about it because it was too much to try to do in a ficlet and it grabbed a hold of my brain and didn't let go.
Please keep in mind that since this is a high school AU, nothing will be explicit until they are adults. Nothing will even be mature until they are adults. They probably won't even kiss until they are adults because this is also a slow burn.
Don't forget to check my Posting Schedule to see when I expect to have updates. I will definitely update it if I think there will be a delay, but as of right now, everything is on schedule.
SO HAPPY THIS REQUEST CAME IN BECAUSE I DIDN'T KNOW HOW BADLY I NEEDED IT!!!

i saw your post about eddie running before you sent me that response and i've just been staring at the wall ever since. there's so many layers to this and it kills me, but the one i keep coming back to is the fact that, probably for the first time in his life, eddie had someone other than wayne trying to look out for him and protect him. and after thinking there was no hope for himself after what happened to chrissy, it was likely a huge relief to know he had people in his corner after all
*takes a deep breath*
Can you even IMAGINE
We do not know what happened to his parents (I vaguely recall his actor saying he had some headcanons, but we don't hear anything in canon), so we don't know if they're dead, if they abandoned him, if they were taken. We just know he's living with his uncle. Not even his parents have been in his corner, by force or choice.
You're right that Wayne's in his corner, but Wayne's got his own life. He cares, he loves Eddie, that's very clear, but he's working nights, which means he's sleeping during the day, there's a good chance that they just don't see each other very much, and
His band mates/D&D buddies? They don't seem overly concerned, and they give Eddie up almost immediately upon duress. And we never see them again, we don't see them looking for him, we aren't shown any shots of them being concerned. Our team never has to deal with them. Are they bandmates that play DND or are they friends?? They're certainly not friends like we're used to.
Given Eddie's flunked senior year twice already, the school system doesn't appear to be particularly on his side. The cops certainly won't be. The other students outside of Hellfire Club think he's a freak, the drug dealer, the failure. There's no one. There's no one capable of looking out for Eddie completely except himself, and god, doesn't that ring with the worst combo of words in the english language: "I'm used to it."
But even if he could handle himself on a normal day? Suddenly he's REALLY screwed, because a terrible, inexplicable thing happened in front of him, to him even, and there's no way anyone will ever believe him. He's on his own, he's alone, he's on the run with no idea how he's going to look out for himself and who else does he really have at that moment? Whatever house of cards Eddie's built to feel safe in, it's gone now. Things he cannot explain have blown it over and left his life in scattered pieces.
And... and then Dustin is there.
This ridiculous child Eddie had swept under his wing when he thought HE was the one taking care of DUSTIN... this kid shows up and he's not even ALONE, he's brought not one, not two, but THREE people with him, with the promise of more, and they're saying it's okay when nothing is okay, and the most ridiculous part of it all is that....... Eddie believes him. Eddie looks at Dustin, and Max, and Robin, at Steve's scared but determined face, and for the first time possibly in years he suddenly has a group of people willing to not just tolerate him, not just be friendly, but who are willing to throw down and be the "find out" for anyone that wants to fuck around with him.
can you even imagine the high of that relief? the shock of it?? the absolute gut punch of hope that maybe he can lean on someone? the mind boggling and dawning horror that not only would he walk into hell for these people in theory, he's going to do it in practice, because if they're not worth it, who is?

The Vanishing of Mike Wheeler
In this little post of mine i’m gonna be telling you the story of how Mike’s disappearance is gonna go in S5 through the perspective of the Hellfire DND game, which represents the Rightside Up/The Party’s POV, and an album which can be directly associated as the Upside Down/Henry’s POV of the same events, revealing how all of this is actually gonna go down in the show.
I know you guys all know what DND game I’m talking about, so I’ll introduce you to a little album called Under the Influence by Overkill from 1988.
Tumblr media
In order to connect this album to the DND game, you have to look at the design of the cover here. The most prominent feature is the giant skull with horns and bat wings, right? When you go to look at the set up for Eddie’s DND stuff, there are two stickers:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Both of those have the exact same symbol: a skull with horns and bat wings. What makes these stickers unique is the lightning bolt behind them, which isn’t in the 1988 cover (the first time this mascot ever gets used). The only character we can directly associate with actual lightning is Henry. Yes, Will is sometimes associated with electricity in non-canon content, but Henry was literally struck by lightning in the show.
In the album, there are constant references to the invasion of the mind, being reborn, and there are a few mentions of needing to head for the light as well. This album is heavily coded as Henry’s POV, but it’s also tied to Eddie. That’ll be important for later!!
Character Establishment
Ok, so before breaking down the DND game itself, let me explain which figurines represent which characters really quick.
Tumblr media
Mike is represented by his paladin, obviously. Same with Dustin and his bard. Lucas, although he isn’t playing right now, is still being represented by the ranger on the table. I believe the figure I’ve associated with El is a mage, which also lines up because Mike declares her to be the Party’s mage in S2. As for Max’s figure, I don’t have any idea what class that figure is meant to be but the figure is prominently blue, which is a color heavily associated with Max in S4. I don’t know much about DND, so maybe I just don’t recognize the class, or there isn’t meant to be a recognizable class because Max is a zoomer.
Now, as for Will, I hate this just as much as everybody else will but I think he’s being represented by the Vecna figure. For one, we know that Henry himself doesn’t really align with the description of the actual character of Vecna. More so, we never actually witness the Vecna figure attacking anyone. It’s implied, but the visual isn’t there which normally wouldn’t matter except that we do see the attack against one character; Mike. That attack doesn’t come from Vecna.
Most importantly, though, is the the design they chose for Vecna’s figure. There are many different versions they could’ve gone with but they chose the one where Vecna’s staff has the green in his staff. You know what that looks a lot like?
Tumblr media
So, Will is being represented by the Vecna figure. Considering that this is all gonna play out in reality in the UD, that actually makes perfect sense because Will is sort of the Vecna of the UD, like how Henry is the Vecna of the RU. The’re opposites.
As for why the actual Vecna, Henry, is being represented by another figure is something that can only be explained through telling this story. Same with Eddie. So, let me dust off this book I found in the corner and show you what I’m talking about.
The Vanishing
So, the DND game is reflecting the reality of S5 when the party decides to go after Vecna. DND games have always been used to predict events in the pasy, as we saw with the ‘weird flowers in the cave’ coming true in S2 and Hopper’s cover-up story being exactly as described by how Mike and Lucas died in the S3 campaign. What I think it really important about this game, however, is the fact that the Hellfire game seems to be ending with a crawl. Crawls are used in DND to set up fights with monsters and take place on a set map, which is what the Hellfire Party goes through. There is a very deliberately set map for the end of this campaign.
Tumblr media
It’s important to remember this, because 5x01 is called The Crawl. The Party is gonna be going after Henry pretty soon after Will/Mike reveals he’s still alive. I don’t think they’ll jump into it immediately, but in terms of episodes they’re either gonna be planning their attack or possibly setting it into motion in the first episode.
 The meat of this section goes into two things; Mike’s dice roll and the third song from the album, Hello from the Gutter. After the Hellfire Party establishes that they’d fight Vecna to the death, the second scene is of Mike rolling the dice. Mike’s roll is actually given the same level of importance as Dustin and Erica’s rolls and it’s shot very similarly too. There’s one thing that all three of those scenes have in common, and it’s the color of their dice. Those are the only times the red-on-black dice are used. It’s not a matter of who gets to roll them, but rather what the represent. What the r-o-b dice are confirming is that this will be happening in the future. They’re inherently predictive of incredibly important events. Although all of this is predictive, these three rolls are the most important by far because they’re turning points in the story. So why is Mike’s included? Let’s really look at that scene. When Mike rolls his dice, we never see what number it lands on, unlike Dustin or Erica, but we know it’s low enough to ‘kill’ him. I’m sure you can figure out a number that would be low enough to lead to a death, a number that’s important to the story, and a number they couldn’t show us. One.
When we look at the result of Mike’s dice roll, something weird happens.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is actually the first time we can confirm that the dark sorcerer is Henry, because that first image places the Overkill symbol directly above the dark sorcerer and even has the lightning bolt pointing directly at it. In the perspective of the RU, both Henry and Mike’s deaths are implied. Mike’s death is implied verbally and Henry’s is implied on the board. So, I’m actually gonna consult the lighting to explain this.
When you look at the lighting of this scene and compare it to the lighting for the other scenes of the DND sequence, this lighting is significantly darker with much heavier shadows. Many times throughout the show, we can associate the lighting of a scene changing into something darker with an illusion occurring. The perspective of the RU is being distorted. In actuality, both Mike and Henry are very much so alive. So what’s the point of having the paladin up while the sorcerer goes down? Look at where the paladin is standing. The paladin is in the shadow, in the darkness. The sorcerer is in the light. The darkness is showing the reality, where Mike is alive. The light is showing what the Party sees. Henry is associated with darkness and light is associated with Will. It comes together perfectly when you consider that our perspective of the events of Will’s vanishing in S1 is warped too. Just like how Will’s perspective was distorted then, it’s distorted again so he’s being shown Mike and Henry’s deaths, but Henry’s perspective shows the truth.
In that case, what actually happened? That’s where we turn to the album, which tells us exactly how and why Mike disappeared.
For the first two songs of the album, the perspective of Henry is established through lines like:
“Dirty little rumor, circulating round... / Spreadin' like the plague. in every little town / Capturing the spirit! and goin' to the head”
“From the fire to the streets / I've seen it all... / I've melted in the heat”
There are, however, lines that don’t quite line up with the idea we have of Henry. That’s where the connection to Eddie comes in. Obviously, there was a reason they decided to associate the album with Eddie rather than just placing it around in another way and that reason comes in when lyrics about being reborn start coming in.
“And then a brand new day! / A chance to be reborn / I've seen another way / No time to sit and mourn”
“Didn't want to sit and rot″
I’d like to point at that it seems like Henry’s body may very well have been rendered immobile due to being attacked by a molotov. Eddie’s dead body was left in the UD, complete with no consciousness yet not decomposed either. I’m not saying it’ll be permanent, but I do think that Henry may seek refuge in Eddie’s body by becoming the consciousness that inhabits it. That’s why Eddie is being so heavily associated with this piece of Henry; Henry is living in Eddie’s body. Henry is living through Eddie’s music taste much like he will be living through Eddie later on.
This is important because the song I mentioned at the very beginning of this is the song that tells us how Mike was taken. Mike isn’t stupid enough to separate himself on purpose and there would be too many people around to protect him if Henry just tried to force his way towards Mike. He needs something that would lure Mike away from the others so he can capture them in an illusion and get Mike alone.
This song is a call to a teenager, repeating the phrase ‘hello from our little hell’ over and over. The story goes and has someone who survived the gutter live to tell the tale and beckon the child to join him. He even tell the child that they’ve been expecting him. I think Henry had called for Mike in Eddie’s body and beckoned him away from the others, because of course Mike would follow Eddie if he thought he’d found him. Mike has seen 3 people come back from the dead, it’s not unbelievable that the same could happen for Eddie. Mike cares about his friends like no other, so if he needed to find Eddie he would.
This might seem like a reach, but then I’d like to bring your attention back to that shot of Mike’s paladin and the dark sorcerer. The paladin’s shadow reaches out and connects with the cultist who represents Eddie (or, rather, Henry in Eddie’s body). The cultist is in the light, but is connected to the darkness by the paladin’s shadow. Eddie is still, technically, Eddie in both the Party’s POV and Henry’s POV, except before Mike is taken he’s tricked into believing that Eddie is still Eddie inside and out, but the reality is that Eddie is only Eddie on the outside.
What’s most interesting is that I don’t actually think Mike was taken involuntarily. When I mentioned having a potential date for when Mike disappeared, I got that from @aemiron-main and his insight about the LOTR/ST parallels. One thing he informed me of was that a deal was made on April 6th to end the week of hell occurred. To set the timeline, the first death of S4 happens on March 22nd, then a week passes by and the show ends on March 29th. A week after that would be April 6th, leaving the hell that is the UD to rain on Hawkins. If Mike were to encounter Henry directly at his weakest, I think it’s very in-character for him to try and find a way to put an end to all the chaos and protect his friends, family, and Hawkins. Mike has always wanted to do anything he could to protect people, and he’s smart. If Henry wanted him for some reason, he would absolutely use that to his advantage somehow. Mike disappears after making a deal with Henry to put an end to the chaos and keep his family safe and Henry uses an illusion to convince everyone that both of them are dead.
The Experience
It doesn’t end there. Henry wouldn’t just end it because he has Mike, that makes no sense. He’s going to put Mike in a trance. Like I said, Henry doesn’t have the strength to maintain his own body and needs to recover. If he keeps Mike and doesn’t kill him, he can sap the strength from Mike slowly and consistently; those psychic connections give him power. He couldn’t kill Mike, because he’d need him for later but he could use that trance state to keep Mike in place and heal himself. How do I know this? The first song that details how this trance is gonna play out is called Mad Gone World.
“In a world gone mad and thriving in the boundaries of your brain / Imprisoned in a world solely created for the purpose of a crunch”
This line heavily implies the idea of a trance because it’s a world existing entirely in one’s brain, just like how the trance takes the world you know and puts it in a place only your brain can reach. Also, it’s a little funny, but the ‘world created for the purpose of a crunch’ is literally what the point of the trances is. He creates them so he can connect with his victims and kill them, crunching their bones. Lmao
“What ya see and what ya feel / Are nothing nothing real / A visionary climax! / An imagery so clear / Losing touch or reason / Both quickly slip away”
Again, more lyricism that equates to a trance-like state. We start to move more into what actually occurs during the trance, though. Mike slowly moves towards losing reason because he’s being put in a trance, and seemingly for a very long time.
“One million minutes... / One million nights / One million dreams I've had! / And a million fights / Livin' in a mad gone world / Livin' blind / Livin' with this worldly madness / Just a state of mind / Just a state of mind”
One million minutes and nights implies just how long Mike is going to be in this trance. It seems like Mike is going to be tranced for the two year time skip, which is why this album is from 1988 and not 1986. There’s also a great post here that explains why Mike being missing for the time skip makes sense narratively. A million dreams and fights implies undergoing tons of visions and such in this trance as well. Living blind is also a reference to the way that the vitcims’ eyes roll back when they’re tranced. And, all of this stuff is occurring as a state of mind to Mike because it’s happening in his head.
The other song that walk us through his trance are called Brainfade and Drunken Wisdom. They aren’t as extensive as the other songs, but Brainfade is all about accusing someone of being a liar, saying they’re “full of shit” and there’s also a short monologue that talks about Vegas and an RV which makes me think we’ll at least be getting a call back to the van and a memory with the actual Eddie and they’ll be intertwined. It could possibly be how we find out about how Mike is queer. Maybe he’ll relive the van scene and run out of the car and run to Eddie’s RV out of instinct and then find Eddie and confront another aspect of his queerness right after. Just a possibility.
The final song that details his trance is called Drunken Wisdom, and this song covers the other things we’ll likely see in Mike’s trance.
“Your bitchin's a bore / Don't wanna hear it no... more / So stop cryin' / Ain't feelin' nothing for you”
 The first verse is all about getting someone to stop crying, that their bitching is a bore. That comes back to the way Mike doesn’t value his own feelings and believes his own opinions don’t matter, that his problems are lesser than.
“Sorry if I'm not as nice as you could be! / Why don't you take the time to see?  / That the world! / Does not revolve around only you / And we got better things to do”
This addresses Mike’s selfishness and how he feels like an asshole for making things about himself sometimes. It’s about how he isn’t a good person and how there are more important things in the world than him, which is something we’ve seen him be insecure about before.
“Why don't we give you a call”
Direct hit! Mike’s lack of calls to Will and losing his best friend are here now too!
All of this would pile up on Mike, especially after years of going through it. That leads into our final trance song; End of the Line. It opens with a reminder that time has not stopped passing during all this. Then, we get this.
“On the edge, standing”
Well. I think we’ve seen this before.
Tumblr media
“Time. Time after time / The end of the line / We stand and watch it fade away... / Sign of the time's the end of the line”
Yeah I think we get it. Mike’s gonna go back to the cliff. He’s gonna try to kill himself again. We got it.
“It's your move / So play... it right / Sometimes you get just one chance”
This’ll make more sense later, but I think that this is moment where the party opens a portal back to the real world and Mike has a chance. He can end it all, one way or another. This is the only chance he’s gonna get to pick.
“It's the end / It snuck up... / Quick and took you by surprise / The waiting's over”
The waiting is over. Mike’s made his choice.
The Rescue
Let’s take a quick step back to the Party’s POV. I don’t think we have any evidence of what happened during Mike’s trance, but I do think I can figure out who actually opened the portal and saved him. Remember the dice rolls? The r-o-b ones? There are two other ones.
Tumblr media
This is clearly predicting El’s attempt at saving them, and it fails, but let’s look at it a little closer. Who are all the characters in this frame? We have Mike, Max, Henry, Eddie, and two skeletons. What ties all these characters together? They all exist within Henry’s mind one way or another, and the two skeletons are representative of Fred and Chrissy.
This is pretty much evidence of the fact that El is gonna go into Henry’s mind at some point and witness Mike’s trance. She won’t be able to free Mike or Max, but she will get to have her realization moment.
So who succeeds?
Tumblr media
Here we have El, Dustin, Lucas, and Will. Only Will and Lucas are standing. Will and Lucas are the 20 that save Mike. Will makes sense, with his powers and such and him being Mike’s light, but why Lucas? Check this out.
Tumblr media
Look behind Mike. Lucas is there. I think Lucas might’ve seen something that’ll hint to him that was he was seeing was an illusion. Lucas is gonna play a part in saving Mike because he’s the person who might actually know anything about what really happened. Assuming we’re getting the Mike/Will role reversal, then Lucas stays the same. The only person who wanted to find Will just as badly as Mike was Lucas (excluding Joyce). If Lucas thinks he can find Mike, he won’t stop, and he may end up going off on his own to do so or he and Will stick together because Lucas no longer has doubts about hoping.
So Lucas and Will are gonna be the ones to save Mike. Does Mike choose to go through the portal? Head First answers that.
“I push to the left, you pull to the right! / It's a stand off / Gainin' no ground / Outta the dark and into the lights! / It's a breakthrough / Startin' with sound”
Mike is going for the portal, dodging Henry’s attempts to push him to the left. He’s running out of the dark and into the light thanks to sound, which is exactly how Max escaped Henry the first time.
“Up down the front and side to side! / Code blue / We need it stat / I got the reason that makes you go! / Mid air / Suspended animation”
“It all ends with an all out dive!”
He makes it out, now suspended midair. Henry tried to kill him (code blue) and failed. It ends with a dive, just like how Robin, Steve, Nancy, and Eddie dove into the UD, Mike is diving out.
The problem is that this has brought Will to Henry. Overkill II is a whole beast on its own. It feels much more like a summary of Henry’s perspective on his relationship with Will than anything else, which is Gross. I won’t break down every single lyric because if you read it you’ll see what I mean and that’s also not the point of this post. It’s icky sticky bro
On a lighter note, however, I think we have a return date for Mike! Once again, I thank Em for telling me about these amazing LOTR parallels because April 7th is supposedly the date in which Sam and Frodo have their hospital scene after that week of hell (sorry I don’t remember the exact names and I think I forgot to tag the post he told me stuff in). Not only do the times line up, though there’s two years between the events for us, they also make sense with everything else we know about Mike and being in the trance during the time skip as well as the fact that April 7th is Mike’s birthday. That would be insanely significant, especially if that somehow ties into birthday gate.
Mike went missing on April 6th, 1986 and came home two years and one day later, April 7th 1988.
I know that was a lot, so thank you for reading!! There was a ton of info in here but it was so fucking fun to put together, so I hope it’s as cool to you all as it is to me :)

You Will Be Found.
Pairing: Eddie Munson x (female) Reader *Platonic Only*
Summary: You're new to Hawkins High and you're getting bullied by Jason and his band of assholes, Eddie finds you locked up in a storage closet and decides to scoop you under his metaphorical wings and keep you safe.
Warnings: There's some referencing to physical bullying so if that triggers you, please steer clear. It's nothing in great detail, I just don't want to upset people by not giving a heads up beforehand. Unless you count a couple of curse words as needing a warning? Idk, I haven’t written fanfics in like 8 years so I’m a little rusty…
Note/Request: Requested by @marvelfanfn2187a113. "Could you do an Eddie x reader platonic fic, where the reader just got to high school and is a loner, maybe lives in the same trailer park as Eddie, then starts getting picked on by Jason? Starts with small things like grabbing her headphones/book and won’t give them back, and it keeps getting worse until one day after DnD Eddie finds her locked in a closet/locker or something at school and gets like super protective."
Word Count: 2.1k
Send me prompts to write about!
Your story was a cliché, that much you knew. You moved to Hawkins midway through the school year due to your parents’ failed marriage, your mother took you and moved here whilst your dad vanished to another state with his ‘new family.’ You never really saw him anymore, but that didn’t bother you, your mother was out of his grasp and even at your young age, you knew how important that was. You found it hard to make friends in new places, so you spent every day alone, from the moment you stepped out of your trailer in Forrest Hills Trailer Park until you stumbled back through the door at the end of the day.
You had no friends, wobbly grades from being uprooted midway through your year, bad anxiety and lived in a place that people would usually look down upon, even though it was all you needed, small, comfortable. Throw all of that in with the fact that you were resitting your senior year as you were so behind on your work from your last school that they pulled you back to make up for it. You were smart, you just didn’t apply yourself. Why should you when your family is crumbling around you? You kept your head down and stayed out of everyone’s way, hoping you’d just become another faceless student in the crowd.
As all cliché stories go, the bullying started immediately. People picked on the awkward new kid with the “funny accent,” they tripped you in the halls, stole your supplies, and once they realised where you lived? You became the town freakshow. It was made apparent very quickly that anyone who lived in the Trailer Park were social outcasts, which bothered you.
Everyone you’d met in your small community had been sweet to you, a little bonkers, but sweet. You couldn’t see why people would talk so badly about people who just didn’t have enough and were just barely scraping by.
The basketball jackets became a red flag to you, not once did you see someone with morals or manners sporting that attire, it was only used for cult-like armour as the abusive meatheads ran in packs. Those guys were the main bullies in your story, taking your lunch money or snitching on you for things you didn’t do, any minor and pathetic annoyance they could come up with? They did.
On this one particular day, you were minding your business putting your stuff away in your locker when suddenly the door got slammed shut from someone behind you, causing you to yelp in shock. It was in the blink of an eye that everything happened, you were suddenly being scooped up by your wrists and ankles and tugged down the hallway, no one else around as the final bell had already rung.
You felt yourself being shoved into a dark closet, tears staining your cheeks as you repeatedly bang your fists against the inside of the door, begging for someone, anyone to let you out. You could hear the door being propped shut with some kind of heavy object, causing you to fall to your knees and hyperventilate in between sobs.
You’re unsure how much time has passed, your breathing mostly regulated whilst you became accustomed to the darkness of the closet, your lower lip wobbling sadly as you attempt to soothe yourself by hugging yourself into a small ball.
You shoot up out of your spot as you hear a muffled voice in the distance, stumbling to your feet as you begin pounding and hammering on the door once again, calling out for help desperately. Heartbeat thumping out of your chest as you try everything to get the attention of this person, just praying in the back of your mind that they hear you, and that its someone with a good heart instead of the jocks back for more.
“What the fuck?” the voice says from outside the door, you hear the sound of the heavy object being forcefully removed before the door swings open to reveal your fellow student and neighbour, Eddie. His eyes wide and panicked as you wince at the sudden bright light overhead, rushing into his arms without sparing a second to think your actions through.
“Jesus, kid. Are you okay?!” he pats your back awkwardly, giving you a few seconds of comfort before he pulls back to look down at you, using his thumbs to wipe away your tears, “What happened in here?”
That’s all it takes to cue the flood gates to crash and you’re once again crying your eyes out, breathing heavily as you do your best to explain what had happened. How Jason and his friends had been harassing you for weeks until today when they just locked you in the closet out of spite right after school.
“I’m gonna kick his fucking ass!” Eddie swears, stepping back from you as he is now seething with anger, incredibly protective of you even though you’re strangers.
“N-no, please don’t… I don’t want anyone else getting hurt because of me” you whimper sadly, seeing the rage settle down to confusion and hurt in his eyes.
“I’m not gonna get hurt, I can take his ass.” He smirks, folding his arms across his chest defiantly whilst you stumble over your words trying to convince him otherwise.
“Please? Please don’t…” you frown, eventually Eddie caves and drops his arms back to his side, scooping up your bag from the floor before his palm rests between your shoulder blades with a sigh.
“Come on, kid. Let’s get you home.”
He guides you back to his van, making small talk as you go. Exchanging names and trying to find a flow in conversation so the drive wasn’t awkward, you knew that he lived near you so felt a little more comfortable than you normally would when getting into a stranger’s van. Not that you made a habit of doing that, of course.
It’s only when Eddie is rounding the corner to the trailer park that he gets a little uneasy, your gaze following his line of sight with a worried look in your eyes. Jason’s car, what was he doing here? A sick feeling pooled in your stomach when you realised that chances were, they were here for you.
Pulling up into his driveway, he told you to stay in the van and keep your head down whilst he checked it out, not wanting to send you back to your place just to get jumped in front of his eyes. You nod, sliding down in your seat and peaking nervously above the passenger window to keep an eye on the taller boy as he calmly walked to the trunk.
Your eyes widen at the sight of Eddie now carrying a rusty golf club in one hand, the other held a can of spray paint behind his back whilst he strolled towards the seniors outside your home.
“Jason, fuckers, to what do I owe the pleasure?” Eddie smirks, the seniors scramble to their feet to appear tougher and taller, trying to intimidate Eddie, who was having none of it.
“Go home, freak. Mind your business.” Jason scoffed, getting a snicker out of the other guys.
“I don’t think I will, actually.” He musters up the most innocent smile before pulling the spray can from behind his back, holding it to the trunk of Jason’s expensive car, “Now, either you get the fuck outta here, or this thing is going to the scrap yard.”
“You wouldn’t dare.” Jason growled, causing Eddie to laugh.
He really needed no encouragement, he was a free spirit.
Without missing a beat, Eddie started to spray paint a huge dick and balls onto the trunk of the car whilst Jason and his friends cursed out in shock, you could see from your window that they wanted to hurt him, you were surprised that they hadn’t already.
“You fucker!” Jason yells, charging towards Eddie in the hopes of tackling him, the metalhead snorts a laugh before stepping aside in favour of whacking Jason right in the shins with the golf club.
The other two goons then leapt at Eddie, causing you to wince, but he was quick on his feet. Smacking one of them in the torso with the club to render him winded on the floor, the third and final aggressor getting a shot straight in the dick which caused him to yelp like a kitten.
Whilst they all lay helpless on the ground, Eddie wanders back to Jason’s car, smashing the front window, kicking the side mirrors off their hinge, and spraying yet another dick on the hood. All three guys were in far too much pain to move, until Eddie swung for their heads to threaten them, missing intentionally.
“Now, let me catch you bullying any of these kids ever again, and I will have your head on a spike that I’ll use at my next cult meeting, you hear me?” he smirked, watching as the three guys fumbled into the broken and graffitied car and sped away.
“You’re a sick freak, Munson!” they cried out the window before disappearing around the corner at top speed, a proud smile on Eddie’s face as he comes back to you.
“Okay, we should be good here… How about you come and sit in my trailer until your mother gets home, yeah? Just in case.” He offers, you nod your head sheepishly before climbing out of the van with your backpack.
Guiding you into his place and locking the door behind you both, he opens one of the curtains a little so he can keep an eye out to see if and when your mother would pull back up to the trailer.
“Here, kid.” He throws the TV remote your way and gives you permission to put whatever you wanted on, informing you that you can help yourself to whatever food or drink you could find in his place, apart from alcohol.
Even though you were sure that Eddie and you were only maybe a year or two apart in age, you didn’t mind the nickname he gave you, it was far more kind than the ones that had been hurled your way in recent memory.
You curl up on the couch and focus on watching some old cartoons when you hear Eddie stumbling out from his backroom about a half hour later, a proud smile on his face as he’s holding something in his hands.
“What’s that?” you ask, confusion filling your voice.
“Just a shirt for our newest member,” he grins, sitting beside you on the couch and reaching out the item to you almost like a peace offering. You take the fabric in your hands and allow your fingers to trace over the words “Hellfire Club,” a shy smile on your face. It wasn’t your usual style, but you truly didn’t mind the change.
“Wait, are you serious?” lower lip threatening to wobble at the events of today, how he had been so protective and welcoming and kept you safe. He willingly took you in under his wing and treated you like an equal, something you certainly weren’t used to, especially not in Hawkins.
“Of course. You’re one of us now, yeah? Tomorrow I can introduce you to all my friends and they’ll love you. There’s a spot for you at our table, you’re more than welcome to be part of the family.” He smiles, to which you throw your arms around him for the second time today and repeatedly thank him.
“Not a problem, little lost sheep.” He smiles reassuringly.
Your eyes shoot up at the sound of the gravel crunching under some tyres, eyes wide until you see it’s your mother pulling up after her shift at work, a bright smile on your face as you move away from Eddie and swipe your bag from the floor.
“That’s my mom, I better go!” you announce, giving him one last hug before thanking him again for taking care of you. He follows you to the door, making sure that you got home safely, even if it was just a couple of strides across the road.
“Mom! Mom! I made a friend! Look!” you squeal in delight, showing your mother your new t shirt and giving her no time to process anything, just happy rambling about how excited you were. She kissed you on the forehead and said how happy she was for you, turning to glance across the street as Eddie was leaning against the doorway and waving politely at your mother.
She mouthed a shy and relieved “Thank you” to him, to which he saluted playfully before you both head back inside.
Your luck was finally turning around.

No.6 — Stay
As Erica stated, the kids are nerds — surprisingly, even Erica herself.
So obviously the kids get interested in Eddie's stuff, the fantasy books and Dungeons and Dragons manuals and more (turns out they have been big fans of Lord of the Rings since the 50s). And now Eddie is indulging them in the world of fantasy within and beyond Lord of the Rings — that means, he's started to recount his memorable Dungeons and Dragons campaigns to them in the living room. He loves introducing dnd to kids, loved it when he ran the Hellfire club. He wonders if he can play it with these kids. Hopefully.
Eddie thinks he's got the time for it anyway. The storm is still evergoing, painting the world in a gray hue. He didn't expect to be staying here—for two days already— but he guesses it's nice. The kids. Nancy. Steve.
Steve. Since last night's talk, he already feels close to the guy. Eddie feels curious, about why he won't come out, and he nearly gets bitten by Erica when he spaces out thinking about Steve.
That's when a crow runs in.
It's a weird thing to say in your head. Why is it not flying? And how does a crow look so excited? But the kids all act like this is a normal occurrence, so Eddie decides to stay chill, too.
Not having noticed Eddie yet, (which is surprising because he is the biggest lump there) the crow urgently asks,
"Is the Eddie guy still here?"
And quickly finds him herself.
"Good, you're still here. You're staying. I mean, I'm not forcing you to stay, but I'd really like if you did. For a bit longer. You're like, a crazy good thing that's happened to us. Those dorks love you, Nance likes you okay too, And Steve, Steve likes you, he's in a good mood and that's—"
"ROBIN!"
The crow's rambling is only stopped by Steve's voice yelling from upstairs, and Eddie is honestly impressed. He's never seen anyone talk so fast, without control. The crow, Robin, only turns her head towards the stairs and shouts, "Shut up, dingus! I'm trying to do something here, for all of us!"
That causes Steve to grumble, very loudly, from upstairs and shut the door with a bang. Robin doesn't even flinch and turns back to Eddie.
"So, will you stay? With us, for a while?"
Eddie makes a pondering gesture, as if he's thinking it through thoroughly. The kids twitch beside him, waiting for his answer.
"I mean, I couldn't have left if I wanted to right now—not that I want to anyway— but yeah I'll stay, under one condition. That is, only if you answer this question."
"Shoot."
Eddie turns his expression serious, as if he's asking the most difficult question to ever exist.
"Why are you not flying?"
He doesn't know how it's possible, but Robin gives him an incredulous look.
"Have you-, have you tried flying? It takes up more energy than you can imagine. Like, I flap my wings a bit and they get really tired, it gets sore for days after, so it's best if I walk. Or hitch a ride from Steve and Max."
And that... kind of makes sense, okay. So Eddie shrugs to show he's satisfied with the answer.
"Alright, guess I'll be staying then."
***
"So," Eddie begins, leaning his head on the doorframe.
"I guess I'll be in your hair for a while."
Steve's voice comes from behind the door, maybe as close to it as Eddie is right now.
"I guess you will be."
They are talking with the door between them again, Eddie and Steve. This is the fourth time it's happening, because Eddie couldn't stay away after last night and just came back to the door whenever he could. He kind of likes talking like this, he's never talked through doors and somehow it feels more private, more intimate.
"Eddie, about what Robin said—"
Eddie hums, recalling the talk from before.
"Don't-, don't feel pressured to stay, okay? We, uh, the kids love you here but that doesn't mean you have to stay for us. Do... whatever you want. Go wherever you want."
Eddie gives another hum.
"You know, Steve, thanks for the offer but I like it here. Don't have anywhere else to go, anyway. I was only moving out of Indiana because I finished high school and had nothing to do and nowhere to go. Had no place in mind, actually."
Maybe this is where I was supposed to end up.
"So... yeah. I'm not staying only for the kids but for me, too."
There's a pause.
"Yeah?" It's a soft question, looking for affirmation.
"Yeah," Eddie answers.
And then he hastily adds, "And for you, too— since you like me sooo much, Stevie," just because he loves being a menace.
Eddie hears Steve's groan slip out through the crack and cackles.
"Well, don't worry— I like you too, man."

hiya!!! just wanted to say i LOVED your kas!steve post so much it makes me squeal with delight no joke
any chance you can drop some details about steve's new appearance/abilities 👀 because i would love to hear more!!! (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*.✧
Hi thank you SO much!!! <3 I have so many THOUGHTS about Kas!Steve constantly and am always keen to talk about it! (if I defeat my crippling executive dysfunction issues long enough to post more I can tag you in it if you'd like 👀👀)
Kas!Steve's whole deal is that Vecna revived him to act as his "ultimate weapon", particularly against the bunch of meddling kids who already interfered with his plans once. He's not worried about the government or any of the scientists ruining his plans, he's worried about Eleven and her allies. He knows damn well the Party & co are going to have a much harder time defeating one of their own, or at least something that looks like one of their own, than an assortment of inhuman beasts. Plus, having a second in command who is intelligent is an asset to Vecna (and Steve, while not academically gifted, is really good at tactics/strategical thinking).
This got wayyyyy longer than I thought it would so I'm chucking this under a readmore, I have "can't shut the fuck up" disease and it's terminal.
BASICALLY I wanted Kas!Steve to be at least a little different from the classic fandom depictions of Kas!Eddie, just for flavour - so to start with Steve absolutely Does Not have wings. Regarding his appearance, the main stuff is:
prehensile, multiple tails like the demobats do - Steve has 5 tails, with one (the central one) being slightly longer and thicker than the rest while the rest sort of loosely weave together around it at rest. They can be controlled independently, but it's quite difficult to do so and Steve is absolutely not at that point yet. It's like - if he went "I want to grab that object with my tails" they would all wrap around it to grab it securely like a human hand would, but it would take a looooooot of practice and experience with this new form to go "I want to hold a different object in each tail at the same time" (and even then it'd be tricky as fuck/take a lot of concentration).
FANGS. So all of Steve's teeth are now sharper and pointed, like the democreatures tend to have, but in addition to that boy's got MAD fangs. His top canines actually jut out from under his top lip and visibly dig into his bottom one, Steve has to relearn how to hold his face when his mouth is shut to hide them. His bottom canines are also larger and pointier than the rest of his teeth, but less egregiously than his top ones. Plus he has claws too, where his finger/toenails have essentially expanded and hardened so instead of just being a "cap" on top of the digit, his fingers and toes blend from skin to keratin and end in a hardened, sharp point. It is actually possibly to file/trim them without hurting him though, with appropriate tools (since they're harder than human nails).
Steve's eyes have vertical pupils now (like cats), since he's got what essentially amounts to DnD darkvision. They also glow gold when Steve's craving blood. Or craving... other things. (I'm talking about being horny his eyes glow gold when he's horny. In Steve's defense, bloodlust and regular lust are kinda intertwined when you're a vampire.)
His skin is also just that bit tougher than it used to be, Steve no longer gets scrapes or cuts as easily.
He does still eat food in addition to blood, he's just carnivorous now - lots of meat (can be cooked but tbh raw is better) and animals products like eggs and dairy. He doesn't digest plant products properly anymore and will throw up if he eats too much of it. As for human blood... he doesn't NEED it to survive, but he craves it, and it gives him a boost to his abilities when he's drank some recently (in that what I've described is him at Full Power™, and if it's been a while since he's had blood it's progressively harder and harder to do those same things). He also just Looks Sick if it's been a whie since he's drank blood. Also when he's out of the Upside Down (especially if, say, he was no longer connected to the hivemind) if he doesn't drink human blood on a regular basis he WILL go feral and revert to a much more animalistic state of mind.
Now the fun stuff, aka his powers:
Superhuman strength, pretty much no one would be able to beat him in a one-on-one, hand-to-hand fight. Bring a weapon, ideally a gun. He also has better stamina than a regular human would and tires much less easily.
Heightened senses - he can see in the dark better than humans ever could and his sense of smell is heightened (particularly smelling blood, human blood in particular). His hearing is actually not that much better than a normal human's, but very high pitched or "artificial" sounding noises grate on him in a way they never used to (e.g. Curse The Fucking Fluorescent Lightbulb Buzz).
He's connected to the hivemind like all UD creatures are, but unfortunately that means he's connected to Vecna. Vecna has a very strong connection to him, given that it was through Vecna's powers that he was revived, and he can plunge Steve into a hallucination whenever he pleases just like with the curse victims. This is how he communicates Steve over long distances.
Steve also has vampiric thrall/mind control abilities, but he can only really pull it off when he's freshly loaded up on blood. It also works best for simple instructions - he could exert simple, one-word-command type control over almost anyone, but complicated multi-step instructions or more abstract things (e.g. being encouraged to forget about something or instructed to not answer certain questions going forwards, indefinitely) would only really work on someone Steve has an extended, close relationship with. It works through eye contact - the gold eye glow also happens when Steve's using these abilities. But shhhhhh I'm sure Eddie's going to be totally fine, everything is chill he'll be fiiiiine ;)
God this is WAY LONGER THAN I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE I'M SO SORRY. I hope you enjoy the lore drop!! <3 Let me know if there's anything else you want to know about because I could talk about this AU all day, I'm obsessed with it

Eddie Munson hcs
Tumblr media
Tags: Eddie Munson Headcanons, mostly fluff, Eddie lives!Au, some steddie hcs too while I'm at it, some inconsistency
A/n: some of these hcs are based off of my own experiences so enjoy that lol
Edit: here's some old hcs I have that I found lying deep in my drafts collecting dust lol
_________________________________________
One time in 9th grade screamed "hail Satan" during the pledge of allegiance
Has a childhood stuffed animal (probably a teddy bear) that he still has out of nostalgia and that he's too connected to it to let go of it
Had a pet fish when he was younger. when it died he cried and buried it in the backyard. You can still kinda see the watered down cardboard headstone behind the trailer
This man is gay and realized that probably around middle school
Literally cried when he found out bc he knew what would happen if anyone (especially his dad) found out
Uncle Wayne's the only one in Eddies family that's supportive
I personally hc that's why Eddie lives with Wayne bc his parents found out and kicked him out :(
When he's not playing dnd or hanging out with the rest of the group he kinda just tends to stay in his room and practice guitar. That or goes into the woods
Or selling drug's lol
Has an extreme fear of bugs. Literally screams if he sees a cockroach in the trailer as he violently stomps the shit out of it
But if he's with the kids or the queer quartet (especially with Steve) and there's a bug he'll just act all brave and heroic and kill it
"seriously Harrington, with that scream the neighbors gonna think There's a girl in here"
"yeah haha real funny Munson"
But internally he's just as freaked out
Eddie secretly kinda always wanted to have a younger sibling so he could teach them stuff he knew and get them into stuff he was interested in and that's why he absolutely loves his relationship with Dustin bc he's like the younger brother he's always wanted
was absolutely ecstatic when he meet will
Basically took the kid under his wing like he did with Lucas, Dustin, & mike (A/n: side note people need to bring up more about Lucas when talking about Eddie being mentor for Dustin & Mike cus he's also a part of hellfire club so goddamn I'm doing it)
He also encouraged will to wear his "will the wise" costume to at least one of the campaigns
Speaking of hellfire club-
There's this hc I saw on TikTok that I absolutely love that Eddie lost a bet to Lucas and had to wear a princess costume to a campaign
Makes me laugh every time I think about it
I just imagine Eddie with a deadpanned face as the rest of hellfire tried not to laugh Thier asses off
Also Erica decided that she actually liked going to the hellfire campaign and decided to go more often
Tho she won't officially call herself a member cus "hellfire clubs for a bunch of losers" lol
(this for the Eddie lives!au where Eddie just goes with Dustin instead of going and trying to fight the bats off. I'm still mad about that 😒) How Eddie met will was after the "earthquake" when the rest of the group are at Wheelers house and the California crusaders (argyles group lol) are back in Hawkins and there all hugging each other and just happy everyone's okay 👍
"but vamp Eddie is wanted by the police shouldn't he still be in hiding and not in the public eye" I THINK A MURDER SUSPECT IS THE LEAST OF HAWKINS WORRIES AFTER A EARTHQUAKE THAT DESTROYED THE TOWN JUST HAPPENED
Anyways Mike and Dustin introduce will to Eddie (someone pls write a fanfic of this PLEASE-)
Eddie sees alot of his younger self in Will
Like ALOT
Besides the fact They're both queer (will didn't say shit about that btw, Eddie just knew) they're both seen as freaks and have similar interests with dnd so when Eddie and will learned more about each other and realized they had more in common
Steve & Dustin 2.0
obviously Eddie doesn't just sweep Dustin under the rug now that wills there but c'mon he can have 2 younger brothers can't he?
And Steves his bf he's gotta take care of their kid together/hj
Speaking of steddie Steve & Eddie kinda give off divorced parents taking care of Thier kid together and Secretly still are in love with each other but doesn't say anything to the other ab it
Eddie's also the 2nd person for Will to come out to and Eddie immediately accepts him
"I mean byer c'mon it was a little obvious"
"huh?"
"you're kidding right? I see the way you look at Wheelers brother"
Of course Eddie doesn't tell anyone unless wills fine with him telling someone else
which let's be honest he probably doesn't want Eddie telling anyone else at least until he's absolutely sure how they feel about queer people. And even then will probably be a bit hesitant on telling the person WHO he likes (A/n: totally not projecting or anything)
After will comes out him Eddie decides to pull a switch a roo out of his ass and come out to will as well
"besides the fact that I also know how you feel, considering I swing that way too"
Will is absolutely shocked
Bamboozled even
Just :0
As if Eddie doesn't look like a walking Skittles ad
Tbh I might make a little fanfic of this scenario :)
Back to when Eddie gets introduced to everyone
Argyle thinks he absolutely fucking cool
"wow man that's a pretty sick jacket"
"you, like metal?"
"well Eden listens to metal so if she likes metal I say it's pretty cool 😎"
Eddie, argyle, & Johnathan are smoking buddies
+ Eden sometimes if argyle visits her
(I'm sorry but I love argyle x Eden sm. They're in a long distance relationship damn it)
If Edens with them Eddie talk ab different type of music they're into sense they have somewhat similar taste
I hc Eden prefers goth music (Siouxsie and the banshees, the cure, joy division, sisters of mercy, Bauhaus) but listens to metal as well so if she wants recs she'll ask Eddie
They all just hot box in argyles van
Anyways back to Eddie hcs
When he graduates (finally) he does exactly what he said he would do: flip principal Higgins off and run like hell out of there
Hellfire club + the rest of the queer quartet, and Wayne was there in crowd cheering him on
After the ceremony tho he was absolutely ecstatic
Wayne gave him the biggest hug out of all them
"I'm proud of you kid"
Nearly teared up when Wayne said that
Jonathan took a bunch of pictures
They had party at Wayne's trailer
Nothing too fancy but there was enough people to call it a party
He also has a pet rat named Ozzy
A/n: anyways these are all the hcs that I could pull out of my ass for now but I might update this post if there's more I can think of

Hey can you do Eddie and Steve from stranger things with a gender neutral s/o who was a test subject like Eleven
Gender neutral s/o's power is telekinesis
Was anyone else angry when Eddie died? Anyway, a new set of tags. Hey, Stranger Things fandom! Major angst on Eddie’s part, minor angst on Steve’s.
Preface: you have managed to escape Martin Brenner somehow and started a life of your own.
Tumblr media
Steve Harrington
You worked in a shop at the mall. It was a clothing shop, and Steve has seen you at the counter many times because he likes to keep up with the latest fashion trends. He noticed that you had an odd way of speaking, it reminded him of Eleven.
He wanted to ask you out, but he couldn’t find the courage. However, when El and Max went clothes shopping, he saw that the latter was trying to calm the former when she saw you. You started crying and ran around the counter to hug her.
When the events at Starcourt Mall happened, you were there helping the group. Eleven had told them that you had abilities like her, and Steve was able to experience your power. He had to admit that you looked so graceful as you flung Billy’s car away. It made sense since you were older than El that you would be more powerful.
When things start to go back to ‘normal’, you were there to see Eleven off. You both shed so many tears, and you cried into Steve’s shoulder as he held you. He placed a few kisses on your forehead to try and calm you down.
Tumblr media
Eddie Munson
You were in Mrs. O'Donnell's class with Eddie. You had a very formal way of speaking, and he liked to tease you about it. You never seemed to get the joke and just stood there awkwardly. You did make a great Hellfire member, though!
Oh, he thought you were very interesting. You were an outcast like him, so he decided to ‘take you under his wing’ and allow you to learn how to play DnD. He personally trained you, and now you were a Level 27 Dragonborn Sorcerer, who specialized in healing. He was so freaking proud.
When he had to play his guitar, you were in the Creel House with him. He played beautifully, he just wishes you could find out about his abilities in a completely different situation. You used your powers to defend him as best as you could, however it was all in vain.
As you and Dustin were watching Eddie’s life slip away, you held his face delicately in your hands. As he was talking about how ‘this was his year’, he continued and said ‘this was his year to finally tell you how he loved you’. That was when he drew his last breath. You and Dustin held him, sobbing.

Your Name in Every Corner
Eddie’s perspective on Steve as he first learns about his good side from the Freshman he takes under his wing and then witnesses it when he gets dragged into the whole Upside Down business, learning that King Steve is no more and Steve is actually a good dude.
On AO3.
Ships: Steve x Eddie
Warnings: mentions of period typical homophobia
King Steve Dethroned: Jonathan's POV, Robin's POV & Eddie's POV.
~~~~~~~~~~
Eddie knows Steve Harrington. Of course, he does. He was only a year above him during his rise to popularity and douchbaggery, then shared his second time doing Senior Year with the man, before he was finally free of King Steve in every corner of the school.
Sure, he wasn’t terrible when they shared Senior Year, but Eddie knows his kind. Has watched him all the years before. He knows how to avoid, how not to engage.
Most likely, his survival avoidance tactics just worked well. Steve walked the podium, Eddie didn’t, but was glad to see him gone.
However, Steve isn’t gone.
He is physically, but somehow he surrounds Eddie more than ever now that he isn’t here. And all that is because of one kid only. Dustin Henderson. The kid worships Steve for some odd reason and while Eddie loves the kid, he is stuck with him, thus so with his talk about Steve.
Eddie spots them on the first day back at school. He’s in the cafeteria eating his lunch as usual when they enter. A group of nerds, obviously Freshmen, looking way out of their depths. So, Eddie saunters over and saves them.
They eagerly join their table and inquire after the shirts, soon signing up for the Hellfire Club. Yeah, this year is good. Eddie can feel it.
With three new members, their legacy as Hellfire will be secured as he finally walks that goddamn stage. So, he’s in a pretty good mood as they set up the campaign for this year. Eddie is naturally running it and he wonders how those kids will fit into the party dynamic.
Excitedly, he sits on his throne, looking over his victims, uhm, troops, and grins: “Everyone ready for the start of the most epic campaign known to man?”
“Hell yeah,” Jeff says and the new recruits nod.
Dustin then says: “But we do have to be done by ten, because Steve’s picking us up and he hates it if we make him wait.”
“He doesn’t hate us,” Mike rolls his eyes. “He just doesn’t let you pick the music until he breaks under your eyes, because he’s a massive looser.”
“Don’t say that, Mike,” Lucas buds in. “You literally based your character off him.”
“Wait, Steve Harrington?” Eddie asks, realizing who they’re talking about and wondering why the hell the human fighter with a spiked club and a heart of gold that Mike plays is in any way based on his sister’s ex boyfriend.
“Yeah?” Dustin confirms, like it’s weird that Eddie is asking, while the other members look at the three of them like they have extra heads. “He’s cool,” Dustin shrugs.
“Exactly,” Gareth says. “He’s cool. Why the fuck is he picking you up from school after your DnD night?”
“Oh,” Dustin says like that explanation makes more sense. Before showing he didn’t understand the comment at all as he explains: “He doesn’t want us biking out when it’s so late and he has a car and the time. So, he offered.”
“Steve. King Steve. Offered to drive you home, because he was what? Worried about you?” Eddie laughs disbelievingly.
“Yeah,” Lucas shrugs like that’s an explanation.
The four original Hellfire Club members share a look that tells each other that they’re all not buying it. But Eddie isn’t about to let his first DnD night of the year be ruined by Steve Harrington of all people, so he claps his hands to get the attention of everyone, deciding to drop it.
Maybe Nancy asked Steve, because she was worried about her brother. The rumor is that Steve is trying to get back into her pants now that her boyfriend moved to California and Eddie wouldn't think him above driving her little brother and his friends home to do it.
If those kids have a bit of a hero worship of the cooler older kid that they saw in passing, then that will fade quickly. Douchbags will always be revealed in time.
Soon, he forgets about Steve and gets into the story, leading the party to the first obstacle. He is impressed with the kids. They have a good strategic mind and play well together. A perfect addition to his campaign.
Still, when the night is over, he can’t help, but remember that King Steve is picking them up. He tries to tell himself he wants to see to make sure Steve isn’t a total dick to his Freshmen, but a part of him knows he’s just too curious not to go look.
As they said, Steve’s car is in the parking lot, the man in question leaning against the hood, wearing a strange vest.
“What the hell are you wearing,” Dustin calls out to Steve when he sees and Eddie raises his brows at the fact that Dustin dares to speak to Steve like that.
He half expects Steve to get angry, to snap back, but instead he looks on in surprise as Steve rolls his eyes and calls back: “It’s called a work uniform. You know, since I have a job, Henderson. Someone has to pay for all the gas I use up driving you lot around. Now get in the car, or I’m not driving you to the arcade this weekend.”
Quickly, the three of them scramble into the car and Eddie watches as Dustin puts a tape into the player like he’s done it a million times before. ABBA loudly blares from the speakers as the car pulls out of the lot, faintly Eddie thinks he hears Steve yell something about seat belts, but the whole picture is already too absurd, so Eddie pretends he imagines it.
Steve truly came to pick them up.
King Steve came out of work to pick up three nerdy Freshmen like it was a totally normal thing for him to do. Acting like he drove them around often. Often enough to have them all act comfortably in his car.
It just doesn’t seem like a thing Steve would do, Eddie thinks as he gets into his own van. Internally he tries to rationalize it. Maybe Steve is getting paid. The word is that his parents cut him off and he’s lucky he was allowed to stay in the house and keep his car. Maybe the kids’ parent pay him for it and he thinks it’s easy money.
The reason sounds a bit far fetched for Eddie’s taste, but it’s plausible (and he hasn’t forgotten about the getting into Nancy’s pants theory). Much more plausible than Steve wanting to do this, so he accepts it into his worldview and speeds off as he lets the whole interaction go.
And Eddie is sure he wouldn't have though twice about the whole thing if Steve didn’t become a frequent topic of conversation at his table.
Apparently, his newly adopted Freshmen adore Steve and think he is the coolest person to ever grace the earth. Even Mike thinks so, though he denies it vehemently. So, each session Eddie has to listen to how cool Steve is.
“Oh, this is like when Steve faced off against Dart and his friends!” Lucas says and Eddie wants to yell: ‘How is my cool monsters surrounding you from all sides unexpectedly anything like something Steve has done? And who the hell is Dart?’
He makes an awesome hidden base under this town and Dustin tells Mike next to him: “It’s kind of like what happened this summer. Is your Steve throwing himself in front of danger to save me?” and Mike says: “My character is not based off Steve!” while Eddie desperately wants to ask: ‘What the hell did you do this summer? And why the fuck were you hanging out with Steve?’
At some point Mike’s fighter dies so that the rest of the party can escape and Eddie feels great about the moment. It’s a beautiful end for the character and they’re all basking in it when Dustin comments: “Steve never did win a fight, did he?”
“He wasn’t based off Steve,” Mike complains, but he’s smiling at the comment.
“Oh, he so was, Mike,” Lucas pipes up.
“Uh-huh,” Dustin nods vigorously. “That self-sacrificing move you just pulled that got your character killed? Total Steve move.”
And Eddie is about to rip his hair out, because even his beautifully crafted moment in his story is tainted by fucking King Steve. So, he finally explodes: “In what way does this remind you of Steve? Like, for real. How?”
The three look surprised at his outburst, then share the look they sometimes share. Before they all shrug and Dustin says: “Uhm, last year Billy came after Max when Steve was watching us over at the Byers’ house. Billy was about to beat up Lucas, so Steve went out there to stop him.”
“Yeah, and he got the shit kicked out of him,” Mike rolls his eyes.
“But it was cool,” Lucas protests.
“Billy smashed a plate on his head and everything,” Dustin adds. “Come on. Even Max thought it was cool. She never thinks anything is cool.”
And Eddie wouldn't have believed them if he hadn’t watched Steve come in with his face all bruised up, ignoring Billy sending him smug looks. It just sounds absurd. Though, he does think the plate is an exaggeration, one doesn’t just walk away from that.
“Alright, alright,” he cuts in, before the discussion can get out of hand. “I get it. Whatever. Lets focus back on the game.”
Luckily that works and they all get back to it. Mike doesn’t have a new character yet, but he delight in meddling anyway, calling out suggestions.
Once they’re done. Dustin wants to ask a few more questions about the campaign. So, he hangs around while Eddie packs up and walks with Eddie when he locks up.
Outside, he can hear Mike’s voice going: “I died. We were fleeing and we couldn't get out on time, so I was a distraction, but my character died.”
“That sucks, man.” And is that Steve’s voice? “You were excited about playing a fighter for once, right? Making another one?”
“Nah, I’m better at playing magic users. Guess, I never was a fighter type,” Mike answers, though he sounds normal it seems like there’s more to that statement that Eddie is privy to.
“You are. You can make a sorcerer based of El, I’m sure she’d love that. And you can’t deny she’s a fighter,” Steve suggests and Eddie is still reeling over the fact that not only is Steve still picking the kids up, he is also talking DnD with them, like he actually cares about their game.
Dustin calls out a greeting and Eddie looks away like he wasn’t interested. Quickly waving goodbye to Dustin as he hurries to his car. He doesn’t want to interact with this Steve. This strange Steve, who is just not Steve-like at all.
Eddie is focusing on finally graduating, he doesn’t need to be thinking about weird Steve. A Steve, who dresses in comfortable soft looking clothes and talks about DnD. A Steve who is good with kids. Not mean.
And he is almost glad when Lucas joins the basketball team later, telling them how Steve is helping him run drills. Because, he can say to himself, see, Steve is pushing this kids towards being sheep jocks. He wants a little posse to carry along his name and found the perfect targets to do that for him.
Even if it makes no sense that Steve is being nice to a few Freshmen to keep his name in high school of all places, especially since all the Senior girls still giggle as they whisper his name. It fits in his views and he’s holding onto that.
In hindsight, it’s embarrassing how much he clings to the douche King Steve image.
Because he doesn’t let it go, the distaste at Steve growing when he sees him pull up into the trailer park a few weeks later, frowning. At first he thinks Steve must have a date here, however unlikely it is that he would want to come close to any of the girls here, but then Lucas gets out of the car and calls out: “Thanks, Steve.”
“No problem,” Steve smiles gently, that smile turning into a grin as he yells: “Don’t do anything I wouldn't do, Sinclair. And don’t do some of the thing I did do.”
“Shove off,” Lucas grimaces like it’s an older brother teasing him instead of the king of Hawkins High.
Max, the girl who lives across from Eddie, has come out of the trailer in time to catch the words Steve yelled. She flips him off, even if she’s smiling. She yells: “Fuck off, old man. We’re not doing anything. Not everyone is a pervert in high school.”
“I wasn’t a pervert,” Steve protest, through the opened window.
“Slut then,” Max shrugs, before dragging a laughing Lucas through the door.
Eddie watches as Steve pouts for a second. Yeah, he also can barely believe that he just watched King Steve drop off Lucas to hang out with his girlfriend, teasing the kids like an embarrassing brother. Not only that, but said girlfriend jokingly called him a slut and he let her. Hell, he’s only pouting in his car about it.
Then Steve drives off and Eddie tries to muster irritation at the peppy radio music he hears floating over, even if he never thought he’d hear Steve sing along to Madonna, tapping his fingers on the steering wheel.
And then again he ignores what his brain could put together, but refuses, because the notion is fucking ridiculous. He’s out in the city, having driven his van out there, because it’s where they have stores that actually sell stuff for DnD. He has some extra money left, and he needs a few more figurines for the next battle he’s planning.
Something that seems almost impossible is the fact that he hears Steve Harrington’s voice. “Yeah, uhm, it’s the dice, but not with six sides. I’m looking for sets? Dice sets, I think?”
The clerk must say something, because the Steve-soundalike laughs: “It’s not my thing, no. It’s a present for my kids, they love this nerd shit.”
Eddie relaxes at the sound. Whoever this guy is, he has kids and Steve decidedly doesn’t have kids (that anyone knows off, because honestly Eddie wouldn't be surprised if Steve had knocked up a girl at some point, but those wouldn’t be old enough to be playing DnD yet). The man at the counter just sounds like Steve, that’s all, and it’s weird to go looking at him just because he sounds like someone Eddie dislikes.
Still, he can’t help but think of the man when Dustin, Lucas and Mike show off their new dice sets at the next session (all picked to fit perfectly with them).
Like he said, it’s ridiculous to think Steve would drive all the way to the closest big city to buy dice sets for a few Freshmen he doesn’t like so that they can play a nerdy game. It’s just stupid coincidence. King Steve buying DnD dice just doesn’t happen.
Eddie doesn’t ask how they got the dice, however.
After that, it slips his mind. Sure, he still has to listen loudly proclaim that Steve is a badass whenever he can, but he manages to avoid the man himself. If he is still picking up the kids after DnD nights, Eddie is too busy packing away the stuff. If he drives them to the arcade, Eddie doesn’t know. And with Lucas and Max breaking up, he doesn’t see Steve at the trailer park much, except the few times he brought Max home (something Eddie ignores).
If asked, he will laugh about why he should be interested what Steve is doing. He’s too busy trying to finally graduate to be busy with the former Mister Popular. He has never cared about that sort of thing, why start?
Why would he want to know what Steve is doing? Why should his brain wonder about this new Steve that gives rides, buys dice and is actually nice? It’s stupid. Those kids just have a very bad case of hero worship and Eddie is desperate to not make it his problem.
Naturally, the universe has a funny way of turning against him, because a girl dies right in front of his eyes and before he knows it, he’s on the run.
He’s in hiding, but found.
He’s scared, feeling trapped.
He’s holding a broken glass bottle to the throat of Steve Harrington.
Because of fucking course Steve has decided to- to what? To help Dustin in his attempt to help Eddie? To believe that Eddie is innocent? To be nice?
Though, at the moment, he looks more scared than anything else. He flinches away from the sharp edge of the glasses and softly but frantically swears on Dustin’s mother, his hands raised in a deescalating and placating manner.
And no matter how unbelievable it is, it can’t be stranger than what he saw in his trailer. So, despite all his instincts he lets Steve go, believing that they’re truly there to help, and sinks to the floor, still clutching the broken bottle to his chest.
They ask him what happened. What happened is that a girl, Chrissy, kind Chrissy, suddenly levitated and broken all her bones right in front of him. Something that should not be able to happen. Something that no one would believe if they could also blame him.
“You wouldn't believe me,” he says.
But they assure him they will and then they actually do. They listen to him talk about a floating girl that broke right in front of his eyes and instead of calling him a freak or insane, they nod their heads. They share looks. Then explain the wildest shit to him, dragging him into a world that he would have loved to never know.
Yet here he is, learning more and more crazy facts about what has happened in Hawkins since ‘83 and how this group was involved every single time. And suddenly Steve and the hero worship the kids have of him makes a lot more sense.
Because, Steve is there for them. He’s not there to solve the mystery or get the glory, he’s just there to make sure none of the dipshits die. Eddie can see it in how he hovers behind them, ushering them through doors, backing up their stories in his own way and how he rests assuring hands on their shoulders.
It’s incredibly obvious that Steve is there for the kids and the kids only. Sure, he is protective over Nancy and Robin as well, but it’s nothing like how he is about the kids.
Eddie can hardly believe his eyes as he watches Steve, Steve Harrington, King Steve, that Steve, put his hands on his hips as he sternly tells the group: “No, those snacks are for Eddie. We can get you snacks on the drive back, he can’t. I asked if you wanted something when we bought them and you all said no.”
“You were eating chips on the way here,” Dustin protests.
“Yes, I bought those for myself,” Steve replies, raising a brow daring Dustin to say more about it, to which the kid wilts as he gives in. When he does, Steve nods satisfied as if he was waiting for that reaction, like the mom-tone (because there’s no use calling it anything else) usually works. Like this happens often.
Then he smiles at Eddie and his heart skips a beat. It’s a gentle, assuring smile, the kind that says ‘don’t worry, I have your back,’ and the weirdest part is that Eddie believes that smile, that it makes him feel safe and cared for.
So, he eats his snacks as they walk towards… a portal apparently, because a compass is wonky. This is his life now.
There Eddie witnesses that stubborn protectively self-sacrificing streak he has heard Dustin and Lucas mention during their game, always followed by Mike complaining his character wasn’t based off Steve (which Eddie was side-eyeing a lot more, having heard of the nail bat).
Because Steve offers to jump in the water, without taking no for an answer, like it’s obvious that he’s the one that is going to be put in danger. And with the way Robin and Nancy let him, maybe it is obvious to everyone that Steve is going to stand between them and danger. However, they also value him enough to follow him without hesitation after they’ve all watched in horror as he is dragged down into the deeps by god knows what.
And then Eddie confirms to himself once again that he is very, very gay as he watches Steve rip a bat in two.
Fucking hell, those kids just had to be right about Steve being a badass, didn’t they?
Thus, all that Eddie has clung to during this year comes crashing down. He has to confront that the reason he didn’t want to think that Steve is different – has become nice and caring – is because then he would have to face that not only is Steve very fucking hot, he also cares. Truly the full package.
Eddie isn’t ready for Steve to be the full package. Yet, here they are, and the aesthetic admiration of the boy he’s always had is turning into a full blown crush. And the last thing Eddie needs on top of an alternate dimension and murder charges is another crush on a straight boy.
So, he pushes it all down, telling Steve about how Nancy jumped after him in the hopes that them getting together would break his heart enough to snap him out of his crush.
However, as this week has already shown him, the universe hates him, so that doesn’t happen. No, instead Steve walks around in nothing but his vest for a long while, letting Eddie make comments he can’t keep behind his teeth even if they are bound to get them punched out at some point if he keeps this up.
But that doesn’t happen. Steve takes the teasing flirty remarks Eddie can’t keep contained with only mild confusion, which seems close to his normal state. It appears that Steve is there to do a job and nothing is throwing him off, not other dimensions, a gaggle of loud kids, the cops on their tail, Robin’s rambling or Eddie’s joking flirting that is close to not-joking.
Luckily (if you want to call it that), Eddie is stopped by the universe before he can make an embarrassing mistake. Albeit in the worst way possible, because Eddie is waking up in a hospital before he knows it.
Oh, no, the universe is not done with him.
Steve is sitting there next to his uncle, Dustin leaning against him, both asleep in an uncomfortable hospital chair when he wakes up.
So, it takes his uncle a moment to realize Eddie is awake, he’s so stunned by the sight. Logically, he knows that Steve is probably there to support Dustin, because if there’s one thing he has learned about Steve, it’s that he’ll do anything – anything – for those kids. Yet, for a few moments he tries to kid himself into thinking Steve is there for him.
Then he locks eyes with his uncle, who shoots out of his seat, hurrying to his bedside. Eddie has never been more happy to see his uncle. He’s missed Wayne so so much. Nancy told him how his uncle didn’t doubt his innocence for a moment and he has never been more happy with living with the man.
“Hey,” he croaks. “How long was I out for?”
“A week,” his uncle says. “Sorry, I wasn’t here the whole time, but I’m glad you made some good friends, kid. That one hasn’t left once.”
“Dustin?” Eddie asks, not sure who Wayne is indicating.
Wayne shakes his head and points to Steve. “No, the other one. Read you The Hobbit. Apologized to me for not keeping you safe. Bit of an idiot if he thinks I care about that when he brought you home to me.”
Eddie can’t believe what he’s hearing. He has already come to terms with the fact that Steve is actually a good dude, but it’s a bit surreal to learn that he’d do that for Eddie. He’s pretty sure he’s heard Dustin complain about how Steve never reads the books he recommends. Yet, Steve sat by Eddie’s sickbed and read him his favorite book.
In hindsight, Eddie isn’t sure if it’s lucky that Steve and Dustin wake to find him awake, before he can think about too much, or not.
However, there is something that makes his heart flip as he sees the subconscious blinding smile Steve gives him once he sees Eddie awake. A smile that is gone by the time Dustin stops hugging him, having jumped Eddie the moment he noticed.
They don’t have the time to talk much, because soon, the room is filled with nurses and a doctor that check him over and inform Eddie of his condition. With the amount of blood he has lost, he’s lucky to be alive. The bites will take time to heal and then he will have to rebuilt the muscle tissue that was shredded by the bats. It will be quite the recovery, but he’s going to be okay.
After the nurses leave, his uncle has to say goodbye, since he still has to go to work. Eddie is sad to see him gone, but he is glad Wayne managed to be there when he woke up.
Once his uncle is gone, Dustin fills him in about what has happened since he went under. How El came and stopped Venca, before Max could get seriously hurt (though she does have a broken leg and arm), how Nancy, Robin and Steve flambeed the shit out of Vecna, killing him, and how Steve carried Eddie out of the Upside Down like a damsel.
At the last one Eddie blushes and Steve looks away, not meeting his eyes as he mutters: “It was nothing, man. He’s overreacting.”
“No, I’m not,” Dustin protests. “He came running when he saw you, sliding down to his knees and feeling for your pulse. He gave you CPR and mouth to mouth, before sweeping you up in a bridal carry. Then he carried you up the new rope, like slung you over his shoulder and just climbed out of there. It was so cool!”
“Alright, alright, Dustin,” Steve stops him and Eddie is glad for it, because he sure can’t in his flustered state. “Eddie just woke up, I don’t think he wants to be annoyed with all that shit.”
Dustin pouts, but listens, switching topics to his now proven innocence in the media and how the government made sure to paint him as a hero, getting injured saving a few kids (Dustin, Erica, Max and Lucas) from serial killer Henry Creel.
Steve adds: “You’re probably going to get approached by men in suits soon now that you’re finally awake. They’ll make you sign a bunch on NDAs. Don’t worry too much about it. Happens every time.”
“Jesus, how many times did you sign those?” Eddie asks.
“This was the fourth time,” Steve shrugs. “Not as bad as last time when me and Robin were questioned about that Russian base for hours, before they let us go.”
“You’re gonna have to tell me that story in full sometime,” Eddie says.
“Course,” Steve promises with a small smile, which makes Eddie feel things.
God, he should really try to get over that stupid crush, because that shy smile and soft assurance is very comforting. And Eddie really wants to tell him that he looks beautiful like that.
Before he can embarrass himself, however, Dustin checks his watch and curses. He ignores Steve’s soft warning about language as he says: “I have to go home or my mom will freak.” He adds an explanation, “Nearly got murdered according to the news and all that.”
Eddie nods, expecting Steve to get up, jingling his car keys and saying goodbye, but that doesn’t happen. Instead, Dustin gives Steve a hug, before dragging out his goodbye to Eddie, then bounces out of the room.
Once he has left the room, Eddie gives Steve an inquiring look, raising a questioning brow.
Suddenly Steve seems to remember that Eddie is awake and he blushes brightly. Eddie didn’t even know that King Steve could blush. But this isn’t really King Steve, this is Steve, the babysitter and hero.
“I’m sorry,” Steve says. “I- uhm, I didn’t want you to be alone, so I stayed. Kinda habit now, but I can go if you want to be alone. No problem.”
His head is filled with the memory of being alone with Chrissy’s corpse, alone hiding out in the shed, alone and being swarmed by bats. Quickly he shakes his head, reaching out to Steve before he can get up as he says: “No. Stay.”
Steve lowers himself back into the chair without question and Eddie can almost kid himself into thinking he looks relieved about Eddie’s (highly embarrassing) request to stay.
It’s awkward for a second, then Steve says: “The Hobbit is actually a better book than I expected.”
Eddie lights up at the mention of his favorite book and launches into a rant about it, practically interrogating Steve about where he is and what part he likes best. Until they’re talking, conversation flowing easily between them.
Over the next few weeks, Eddie recovers. During the day Dustin often joins him and his uncle is there whenever he can. However, Steve is the constant. He only went home once to get more clothes and pick up some things for Eddie, but he is mostly there.
The two boys talk about everything and nothing, Steve continues reading The Hobbit and they listen to music together, Eddie claiming Steve needs to be educated and Steve letting him with only an eyeroll.
Slowly Eddie gets better. He sleeps less, walks more and every day his infatuation with Steve grows bigger.
It’s really fucking embarrassing if Eddie is honest with himself. For all his protests about not becoming a sheep, it only took a few weeks of hanging around Steve to feel like all the girls he has always seen buzzing around the man. To lay and think about Steve’s hair, charming smile, muscled arms etc.
But it’s also different, because he knows Steve. He knows that he is nothing like the guy Eddie used to see in the halls of Hawkins High.
This Steve read The Hobbit, talks to Eddie about DnD, trying to understand it for the kids and asking questions about the campaign Eddie is planning. He listens to Eddie’s music, not always liking it, but enough to bop his head and sing along from time to time. He worries for Eddie when he twinges in pain, makes sure he is okay, herds the kids away when they’re too loud and Eddie is tired.
All in all, he’s a great guy and Eddie blushes around him, trying to play it off by playfully flirting with the man more. Something Steve doesn’t seem to mind. Even like, if Eddie wants to fool himself into thinking the flush is about more than embarrassment from Eddie’s comments.
Then, a month and a half after waking up, Eddie walks out of the hospital on his own two legs (though he’s supported by Steve’s muscular arms, his brain busy with replaying Dustin’s recount of his saving).
His uncle couldn't be there, so Steve has offered to drive him home.
He helps Eddie into the car, buckling him in, before flushing and saying: “I’m so sorry that was a total mom-move. I mean, the kids already tease me about it, no need to around proving them right even more and-”
“It’s okay, sweetheart,” Eddie cuts off the apologetic rambles, before they can continue.
“Ah, oh, uhm, okay,” Steve splutters, quickly retreating and closing the door, before hurrying to the other side of the car and sliding in. He takes a deep breath, turning to Eddie, then bites his lip, before shaking his head and pointing to the dashboard. “I have tapes in there, pick whatever you like.”
Eddie feels a weird tension and wonders what happened. He opens the dashboard and laughs, pulling out tapes: “Really, Stevie? Madonna? Wham!? Whitney Houston? Cyndi Lauper? ABBA? No wonder those kids call you a mom.”
“Oh shut up,” Steve grins. “If I want to be a dancing queen, I can be, Munson.”
“Is that so, princess?” Eddie teases, wanting to hit himself when he does. Sure, sweetheart hasn’t been much better, but if he is going to get his ass kicked by Steve ‘princess’ would be the pet name to do it.
However, Steve doesn’t punch him, he just blushes again and grips the steering wheel tightly, not looking at Eddie.
The silence drags out.
It’s awkward. Eddie may not have gotten his teeth punched out, but he’s pretty sure he has finally made Steve uncomfortable. Because he’s a fucking idiot, who can’t keep words to himself and Steve doesn’t have to take that from Eddie. It’s likely harder to ignore without a huge threat hanging over them. So he has to fix this, before he ruins this friendship, which is already more than he could have hoped for.
“Steve…” he starts uncertainly, wanting to reach out.
“No, it’s fine,” Steve says tersely.
“It’s obviously not fine,” Eddie protests. “I made you uncomfortable, sorry.”
Steve gives him a shocked look. “What? No, you- you didn’t make me uncomfortable,” he objects, like it’s a given. Then he looks away, flush still coloring his cheeks and mutters: “You just keep giving me hope.”
“Hope?” Eddie repeats softly, not really able to believe what he’s hearing.
The blush brightens impossibly even more and Steve huffs: “I know. It’s stupid. Believe me, Robin has already made fun of my unrequited crush on you at lengths.”
At those words Eddie’s brain short-circuits. Steve- Steve has a crush. On him? Holy fuck, Steve Harrington just confessed to having a crush on him. Eddie Munson. He is sitting there blushing because Eddie called him princess and that apparently makes him flustered. Because he has a crush. On Eddie.
Then the words unrequited hit him and his brain catches up to the fact that Steve is still gripping the steering wheel tightly, obviously waiting for rejection. And Eddie is just sitting there, staring at him without saying a word.
Before he can rectify the mistake, Steve says: “If you’re going to call me slurs, please just do so, Eds.”
“What? No!” Eddie exclaims quickly. “No, no, no, of course not. Fuck, of course not, Steve. Gods, no, I wouldn't do that.”
“You won’t?” Steve asks tentatively, risking a glance at Eddie.
And fuck, his eyes are really fucking pretty. Eddie looks for a moment, then shakes his head, softly replying: “No, would be pretty hypocritical of me. You know, making fun of your sexuality and crush when I also have a crush on you.”
Steve was about to look away, but at the confession he whips his head around, eyes growing wide as he breathes: “You do?”
Eddie smiles, a giddy feeling taking over his body. He nods and confirms: “I do.”
At that Steve smiles back, his face splitting in two, eyes sparkling. He looks absolutely beautiful and Eddie now gets to say that without having to make a joke about it. So he does. And enjoys how Steve blushes, deciding it’s much prettier in combination with that soft smile.
In a moment of boldness, Eddie says: “So, does this mean you’ll say yes, if I ask you on a date with me, pretty boy?”
And Steve is nodding, before agreeing, an equally giddy smile on his face as he starts the car.
In that second, Eddie feels on top of the world. He has been cleared of murder charges, he has lived to tell the tale and now he has an amazing man on his side that has agreed to go on a date with him, along with many friends by their sides. ‘86 is truly shaping up to be his year.
So, yeah, Eddie knows Steve Harrington. Of course, he does. He is the best babysitter he has ever known with more mom-tendencies than a twenty-year-old should, along with the prettiest blush he has seen. He has taken up space in every corner of Eddie’s life and he can’t be happier that he’s there.
Eddie has witnessed his princess in every way and he has to say, he likes Steve Harrington a whole lot more than King Steve.
hi i just found ur writings and they are amazing!!! i have a request! maybe like a dustin-nancy situation, like a kid having a rlly cute crush on one of the older kids, but with eddie and a freshman girl in hellfire. like she rlly likes him and gifts him a bunch of things and bakes for him, and he’s oblivious at first but soon catches on and sorta plays along. and then eventually he has to break it to her that hes much too old for but he’s rlly sweet ab it!! idk i just thought ab this! thank you
Eddie Munson was oblivious to anyone ever having a crush on him. Even when the girls would flaunt themselves at him, he never caught on. So it shouldn’t have surprised you when your gifts went unnoticed. Not unappreciated, but unnoticed. And you weren’t sure why you kept doing it. Maybe it was because you found it cute the way he made a theatrical gesture to accept the gifts every time, playfully bowing and extending one hand as he tucked the other behind his back.
You started the gifts as a little...thank you to him for being your friend. He tucked you under his wing your first week of school when he seen you being pushed around by the freshmen cheerleaders. He showed you how to play DnD and he opened your eyes to the world of metal music. He made you feel safe and welcomed.
It wasn’t long after that until you realized you had a crush on one Eddie Munson.
You carried the small bowl of cookies into the lunch room, fingers tapping happily on the sides of it as you made your way to your usual table. Eddie was taunting Gareth when you walked up, arm hooked around his neck as he playfully rubbed his knuckles into the top of his fluffy hair much to Gareth’s dismay.
“Delivery!” You said, placing the bowl down in front of Eddie’s seat at the end of the table.
He dropped his arm from around Gareth and grinned at you as he opened the bowl, “And what’s this?”
“Left over cookies,” you nodded, “Figured you’d enjoy them.”
“Oh, you know it, doll.” Eddie winked at you as he bit the cookie and then sat down.
“I’d say Y/N’s a little sweet on you, huh?” Dustin chided from across the table, earning a swift kick to the shin under the table from you, “Hey! That hurt!”
“Stop teasing the kid,” Eddie snorted, “You’re just mad she doesn’t bake you insanely good cookies, Henderson.”
“Yeah because she doesn’t have a crush on me, Munson.” Dustin shot back at him and you felt your throat close.
You glanced at Eddie just to see him sitting with a wide eyed shock at the words that Dustin said. He had not one single clue apparently. Until now. Now the entire table knew. You felt the embarrassment redden your face as you grabbed your bag and stood up, rushing out of the cafeteria.
“Way to go, dipshit.” Eddie sighed as he stared down at Dustin, flicking the remainder of the cookie at his face.
“What did I do?” Dustin grumbled, watching as Eddie stood up and walked after you.
You were sitting out at the picnic table in the courtyard, knees to your chest and your head resting on your chin, staring down at the sidewalk when you seen the familiar reebok’s walk up beside of you. As he squatted down, Eddie came into view and looked up at you with a scrunched up face.
“You okay?” Eddie sighed softly.
“No,” you grumbled, looking anywhere but at him, “That was embarrassing.”
“What? That Dustin can’t take a kick to the leg without whining about it?” He smirked.
“You know what I’m talking about,” you sighed, scooting over so he could sit at the table with you.
He rested his elbows on his knees and leaned forward, playfully bumping his shoulder against yours, smirking when you swayed back and knocked his shoulder with yours.
“You know I’m like...way too old for you, yeah?” Eddie asked softly, his voice gentle so he didn’t embarrass you even more.
“I know,” you said, voice small and soft as well.
He was quiet as he looked out at the small group of kids passing by and you took a minute to stare at him. His big brown eyes caught you staring at him out the corner of his vision and you sighed softly before you both cracked up laughing.
“You’re going to find a cool guy your age and he’s going to be cooler than me and you’re going to forget all about me, yeah?” Eddie nodded, “Ya know...Gareth is only a year older than you. Kid’s smart as hell, too.”
“No,” you groaned, “I don’t need you, the guy I have a crush on, trying to hook me up with your best friend.”
“Okay,” he gave you a small smile as he stood up, “So...no hard feelings?”
“No,” you said, watching as he held his arms out, offering you a hug, which you happily accepted.
“Can I ask you something though?” You asked once he had pulled away.
“Shoot,” he said, shifting his weight to one foot as he played with the chain on his wallet.
“If I were older...would you – could you see us being together?” You sighed softly.
He sighed softly as he stared at you taking in the sight of you for a minute. You were a gorgeous girl – anyone could see that. But he was a firm believer that anyone under a Senior grade level was too young for him and he wouldn’t push that boundary.
“I don’t know how to answer that,” he shrugged, “Because we can’t change your age and that’s a firm boundary for me and, ya know, the police. So possibly...but I think right now, we shouldn’t talk about that. We’re just friends, yeah?”
And while it hurt, you understood what he meant. And your respect for him grew even stronger that day.
Eddie Munson would've adored Will Byers and no one can tell me otherwise. Like they're both outsiders; the freak and zombie boy, bullied & ostracised by their peers for being different, they're both queer, they both use creative outlooks to deal with and to escape their respective traumas (Will with art, Eddie with music, both with DND), they both have let's say complicated relationships with their fathers (Lonnie literally called Will the f slur & the impression we got of Eddie's father in that short conversation with Steve was less than a positive one), I could go on and on.
You can't tell me Eddie Munson wouldn't look at Will Byers and not immediately to take him under his wing, you can't tell me he wouldn't see so much of himself in Will, you can't tell me Eddie wouldn't become instantly protective of Will. You can't tell me Will wouldn't have loved Hellfire club, you can't tell me he and Eddie wouldn't team up to create the best campaigns, you can't tell me Eddie wouldn't adore Will just as much as he did Dustin, you can't tell me Will wouldn't have confided in Eddie, you can't tell me Eddie wouldn't have given Will a queer education and helped him on his journey, you can't tell me Eddie and Jonathan wouldn't initially be very jealous of each other due to their respective bonds with Will, you can't tell me they wouldn't slowly bond themselves and eventually share mixtapes with each other because they jokingly bicker about who has better music taste and how the other is corrupting Will with his bad music taste, you can't tell me Eddie wouldn't join the babysitter's club aka Steve, Jonathan, Nancy and Robin (+ Argyle, I'm so tired of people erasing him from the story and had they met Eddie would've loved him too), you can't tell me Joyce and Hopper wouldn't (slowly in Hopper's case as he is very protective but Joyce is pretty much on board the minute she sees how happy Will is after his first Hellfire club meeting) come around to Eddie so much so that he practically becomes their third son (he and Wayne end up going to their house for Sunday dinners if Wayne's shift allows), you can't tell me he wouldn't adore El for similar reasons as to why he adores Will, you can't tell me he and Robin don't confide in each other and don't make a particular effort to look out for the party as a whole but especially Will at school, you can't tell me Eddie wouldn't have made both Will and Dustin Hellfire club leaders once he graduated... We were robbed of so much...
