Alright if I have to ship you with someone that's not me...

I ship you with a lot of people but for today I will ship you with Layla: I think she would love to look after you and protect you like did you see her fighting skills? I think she would find you adorable and sweet and that's maybe all she needs. Someone who will love her and make her food and cuddle with her, someone she can look after but knows looks after her too. She would love to take you on a ride on her motorbike. Oh and yeah she'll dom the hell out of you if that's what you want.

But I also ship you with Steven and Marc... Let me explain:

For Steven, I think you are the perfect person to read with and go to museums with, both of you nerding out over stuff. Your old sweaters you love to thrift shop, yeah he's stealing them, they are just so comfy and smell like you. Cuddling while both reading books is a must and wow, all the book shopping you two do it's insane. He also would feel so safe with you to explore new sides of him both in sexy times and not. He feels like he can tell you anything on his mind and be vulnerable with you and will do anything to make you feel safe too. And let's talk about the sexy stuff, why not? He's a bit unsure in the beginning about what to do but he for sure listens to what you tell him and takes notes. Oh and about who is in control? It depends. But he would love it if you take control, he will just melt. And after the sex? Cuddles and taking a shower together are a must for him! He would just love you so much!

Marc, this one is a little trickier. In the beginning, he was unsure. How can someone as sweet as you fall for him? But when you give him his room and understand that he needs his time and just look after him without touching him or forcing him and when he sees how you are with Steven he starts to be around a bit more. He lets you cook for him and starts asking what you read hoping you will ramble happily about your book and the stuff that happens in there. He will always join you on walks. He needs to be sure you are safe. When both of you slowly open up a bit more about what you have been through he swears he will never let anything happen to you and you do the same. One night he fronts and comes to you in tears and scared, he just had a nightmare and now he needs you close and feel safe in your arms, he truly trusts you and when you need him he'll always be there. He is not the best with talking but for you, he tries, he really does but most of all he will show you (yes that includes sweet lovemaking in the early morning while it softly rains outside). He would love to stay in your arms forever. He will also always find an excuse to hold your ass. You are cooking? he will help by holding you. You are trying to read something? Nice you can read while you sit in my lap. Wanna take a shower? Cool! He'll join so he can keep your company (And wash you) It took him some time to get intimate but once he trusts you? He'll never let you go

I ship you with Bucky Barnes, Derek Morgan and Layla!! - these are always the boys that come to mind when I think of you and Layla is also a recent person I can see you with!!

Bucky: I can see you and Bucky spending a lot of days indoors together. He would take care of you on those days that are just difficult and make you feel so cared for, but at the same time, he knows you'd be there for you for his bad days too. He begins to get a little less shy before you get into a relationship, then when you start dating he's really comfortable with you. I know for a fact that Bucky would absolutely adore making a blanket fort with you - it's a cold, rainy day outside and you just want to curl up in the warmth and not leave the comfort of your apartment, so he builds a fort with you. It's soft and romantic and if the mood is right, he makes love to you under the gentle glow of the fairy lights inside of your fort. You always feel safe and cared for with Bucky, he takes everything at your pace, emotionally and sexually and he's just the sweetest partner, but in the same breath - oh my god the amount of mischief you'd get up to together, Sam and Steve would not know what hit them with the amount of pranks you pull on them - not to mention the amount of times people walk in to find the two of you having some kind of nerf gun battle in the living room.

Derek Morgan: Oh he is just OOOF he's so in tune with you - he's so sweet and caring but in the same breath, he's extremely passionate. That man is very giving, especially in the bedroom. He loves taking his time and making you feel good - he lives for your reactions and the satisfaction it gives him to watch you enjoy the pleasure he gives you. He's definitely a soft dom, but he also loves the challenge of you taking control too and it's so playful and exciting to swap control. He's a bit of a hopeless romantic too, so you always come home to romantic gestures like date nights at home, pretending to be your personal driver while he takes you out to see a movie, trips to the museum or the coffee shop with an extra flair! Derek loves to treat you, but he also loves how much you are there for him too. He knows he can always come home to comfort after a difficult case. You usually make something like cookies or you try to bake something else if you know when he'll be home, but if you don't know when he'll be back, you just keep yourself prepared for when he does come home so even if you're at work or asleep when he arrives, there's a note and some comfort items waiting for him to wind down until he gets to spend time with you again later in the day or in the morning.

Layla: I can also see you with Layla!! She'd absolutely be so fun to spend time with. She definitely indulges your adventurous side - I know she'd LOVE going to the theme park with you and going on really fast rides and she loves the way it makes you all giddy afterwards! But, while you spend a lot of time exploring and doing really exciting and adrenaline inducing things, she loves having down time with you at home. Baking together? Layla loves it. Want to make dinner? Absolutely and if you're not sure how to cook a dish, she'll get adventurous in the kitchen and do her best to improvise it. Also, like you said, she'd definitely dom you if you wanted her too, but she'd also love it when you dom her too. Her favourite is the mornings when the sunlight pours into the room in golden streaks and she gets to be with you so intimately before the world is fully awake, there's something so magical about sharing that with you.

You push the mechanism and it opens.... transporting you to the past. Where are you? Or more importantly when? The answer becomes clear as two riders approach you. A timeless adventure that is less about logic and more about love.

They figure out what to do because the QZ is not a life for a newborn. A beautiful story of love and sacrifice. There is also a second part to this story being written. 

⭐️ 🔥🔥🥺📚 Adjustments - softlyspector - The 1st Joel fanfic that I read so it has a special place in my heart. Jackson era. Joel and neighbour become close. Neighbour is dealing with stuff and Joel is attentive and protective because she’s part of his tribe. Soft, fluffy, and so beautifully written.

⭐️ 🔥🔥🔥💗🥺📚 September - wheresarizona - My favourite story. I’ve read it a few times. Joel and the reader Doc were building a life in Austin. They were separated on Outbreak day. 20 years later she finds him. The rest of the story is how they reconnect. 

🔥📚 Mr. Miller's Birthday Gift - jksprincess10 - DBF! Joel and reader start a secret relationship. They celebrate her birthday and then his. The relationship doesn’t stay secret for long. 

⭐️ 💗💗💗📚 Where It All Starts - finnsbubblegum - Single Dad Joel and neighbour become friends when she helps takes care of Sarah who is still a baby. Enjoy the fluffiness of this sweet story.

🔥 Pistol - cosmictheo - Reader is a ward for Bill and Frank. Frank is fun dad. Bill is grumpy dad. One day Joel and Tess show up just as a storm approaches. Joel and Tess are partners nothing more. Sparks between Joel and reader. He tries to do the right thing but can’t fight that feeling.

🥺💗 Call My Name - toxic-seduction - Set in 1x06. After Joel is stabbed you and Ellie bring him to an abandoned house to take care of the wound. Joel calls out name while on death's door. It isn't yours. Later he tries to explain what happened.

The two of you meet and despite your differences make a life together. What happens though when the real world comes calling again? This story is brilliant. The crossover I never knew I needed.

pretty much nothing! It was a rough reading week! The first part of the week I was fairly consumed with the D20 I was watching & not reading much. Then I spent FIVE DAYS reading a little over half of a 258K fic before finally accepting that though it was pretty well written and not bad, I just wasn't into it and the thought of fighting thru another 120K was appalling, so I bailed.

and I did read about 20K of shorter stuff but nothing I want to shout out so.

- i study educational science, which means that most days i survive purely on caffeinated drinks and pasta

- i always carry something to read with me, whether it's a book, a fanfiction or even some super boring article for uni classes

- the term "favourite book" doesn't exist here, because there are simply too many to choose from. however, the song of achilles by madeline miller does have a very special place in my heart (but so do five other books, so take it as you like)

- friends&family consider my plant collection to be "too large", which i definitely wouldn't agree to. it's "proper" at best (around fourtysomething, maybe a few more)

- at all time my head is filled with more ideas than i can count. it get's overwhelming at times but then i'll just remind myself that the possibility of actually persuing them is slim to non

- put a vegan strawberry cheesecake in front of me and i'll eat the whole thing, no crumbs left

Y’all I just had the most amazing dream that was a mashup of The Last of Us and Jeff Satur wearing cunty outfits 😭 Writing it out so I remember the details later, gonna be long so read on if you dare!

Main cast:

- Bella Ramsey as the young version of the MC (pronouns she/they). Very similar to Ellie in The Last of Us. Wears t shirts, jeans, and a backpack. Looks young but will fuck you up 🎒🔪

- Jeff Satur as the adult version of the MC (he/they). Vibes like Dum Dum MV + same hair length. Wears crop tops with jackets and long skirts in dark colors. Heavy eye liner. 🔪🥵🕷️

- Clone Jeff #1 (he/they) has lighter brown hair and wears crop tops and long skirts, but in pastel colors. Has Apo’s 70s hair from that one photo shoot. Gun Atthaphan fashion choices. Lucid MV vibes 💐✨🥰

Plot:

Young MC (Bella) and Pedro in a car mechanic shop, attempting to stop a bad guy from releasing a bomb that would start the apocalypse 💣🦠They fail, and humans have to live underground for 20ish years (air pollutant hand-wavy science).

We (the audience) see Bella, Pedro, and Bella’s surviving extended family living in a dim shabby bunker system ☹️ Bella ages and transitions into Cunty Jeff Satur and is a total badass 🔥🥀💅 He uses his looks to get info like a spy and to be gay do crimes 😈 He helps figure out the end of the apocalypse! Don’t ask me how!

Scenes:

——In the bunker, the people are getting ready to return aboveground for the first time. Jeff is remembering his life, and we see him as young Bella who lost their mom, then tween Bella in front of a sad birthday cake, celebrating their bday in the bunker and crying because their mom used to make their bday cakes 💔🎂 Tween Bella tells Pedro about all the traumatic shit they went through before they met, like escaping kidnappers etc. 😲😢

——Next, Cunty Jeff’s origin story: In the flashbacks, we see Teen Bella, who is at a party of sorts in the bunker system with other surviving teens their age. They get bullied out of the party and that’s when they decide to stop wasting energy crying and become the problem like 🤬🤪Bella transitions over the next years (finds clothes in the underground system).

——Aboveground, at the mechanic shop/epicenter of the apocalypse. Most people are still living underground, but Jeff is out doing his spy thing 🔎 This is the first time we see adult Jeff. He walks in wearing a knee length lavender skirt, with his signature black crop top, suit jacket, heeled boots, and eyeliner 💅🫦 This is at the beginning of his spy career and the only time we see MC Jeff in something other than black.

Jeff remembers when he was there (as young Bella) and regrets not stopping the apocalypse. He is looking for info out of anger and also from concern for his extended family, most of whom are aging, and he doesn’t want them to die in the bunker and never see sunlight again.

——Return to the present day, Jeff and his family (and Pedro) sit around a long dining table planning their return aboveground. Clone Jeffs #1 and #2 are present, and also Yoshi Rinrada 😍 (At some point, Jeff’s spy employer cloned him? And his clones live with his family?)

Clone Jeff #1 💐 (pastels, vibes of Lucid MV + Gun Atthaphan) is level-headed and is the caretaker in the family. The children love him. He wants to plan the return carefully and stay together as a family. His bff is his cousin who’s a trans woman, vibes of Erin Hattamer from tiktok. Together they teach the children and keep everyone sane in the bunker 📚 We trust them! 🥰

Clone Jeff #2 👎 (military Jeff) wears a black suit top with long black skirt. He is cold and doesn’t care about the well-being of his family. He is secretly working against MC Jeff and his spy employers. Military Jeff wants people to stay underground so the military can continue doing sketchy stuff aboveground 🤮

——Ending scene:

The world is getting settled aboveground and MC Jeff’s family is moving into a few houses in a suburb! 🏡☀️ He is in the cracked cement driveway helping carry crates of food when a car stops in front of the house. His aunt steps out (a Thai woman), followed by his cousin, Omar Rudberg! 🤯 Omar and Bella (young Jeff) grew up together since Bella’s mom died when they were little. Jeff and his aunt lived together in the bunker, but Omar was last seen as a 7 year old when the apocalypse began. Somehow he survived! Jeff and Omar reunite and the audience cries 🥲💗

Pull back and it’s a movie theater! 🎥 People love it and no one questions that Jeff is Thai and Bella isn’t 😆 People are hoping for a Jeff and Omar road trip buddy movie where they use their combined spy skills to dismantle the government that tried to keep the apocalypse going and the humans underground 🚙💅🕵️💥

@a-menagerie Ellie is a blessing to my feed whenever they post bc whether it's a fic or some cute headcanons, you *know* it's gonna be good. She has a witty style of writing and is able to capture the lightheartedness that dnd brings to the table 🎲

@saphirered Saph was one of the first Critical Role x Reader blogs I came across when I first got into the fandom. Her fics are lengthy and beautiful, you feel like you're reading a lovingly and thoughtfully written short novel. Also writes fics for the Witcher (which I LOVE) and SJM books 📚

@randoimago Kat provides so much x Reader content for a variety of fandoms - honestly I'm a little in awe of how regularly she's able to produce and post incredibly in-character stuff. She's always pleasant to her anons and so supportive in general. I'd recommend her headcanons 100% (bc more often than not, they're canon for me 😭 ❤️)

“I’d also start with a bath,” I confess. I comb my fingers through the tangled mess that passes for my hair. “The boarding house rarely had warm water for bathing. I never thought I’d be missing that rusty, freezing bathtub.” What I wouldn’t give, even, for just a comb. I’m going to walk to the gallows with a rat’s nest on my head.

“All right. And then?”

This is so much harder than I thought.

“I’d walk, too, I suppose,” I say, “but…not for a whole day. That’s madness.” He smiles despite the jab. “Go to the library, maybe? Stop at a bakery on the way?”

“Cakes?”

“Of course,” I say, and the look on his face is almost enough to make me cry. We both laugh instead.

“Don’t think too hard about the cakes,” I say. “You’ll only miss them more.”

Most of the time, Colette does. I think Jamie said at some point early in the story that he can tell, or he suspects, that she came from money before they met, and he’s right. She was used to a certain quality of life before she left home. 😂

So, yes, Colette is taking care of herself—bathing regularly, getting enough sleep, and eating well. Maybe not as well as the olden days, but well enough.

When she gets stressed and worried, though…

📚 - Do you have any mystery book recommendations? Specifically murder mystery? Preferably female protagonist? It's okay if they're male though 🤗 (just because there aren't many good ones with female leads).

This request turned out to be a bit of a problem, because it turns out I don't really read mysteries. So instead, I gathered book that are murder mystery adjacent enough that I hope you might like them.

The Wicked Deep by Shea Ernshaw is a horror YA

It is set in a small coastal town in Oregon where two centuries ago, three sisters were accused of witchcraft and thrown into the harbor with rocks tied to their ankles. Now, every year the sisters return, possess the bodies of three girls from town and each drown a boy in the harbor.

Penny, like most people in the village, accepted their town's fate. But then just before the drowning season starts, a mysterious boy called Bo shows up, unaware of the danger he's just stumbled into, and Penny does not quite know if she can trust him.

This book is not exactly the classic murder mystery, but it does have the kind of huge twist you'd expect from one. It is very atmospheric, and I think that's where this author excels.

Winterwood is the second book by Shea Ernshaw

It is set somewhere different in Oregon (pretty sure that's where the author lives), and follows Nora Walker, a girl who lives in a very isolated mountain village, near the mysterious and potentially deadly Wicker Woods. Rumored to be a witch, only Nora knows the truth about the Wicker Woods. She and the women in her family have a special connection to the place, and one night during a full moon she finds Oliver, a boy who disappeared several weeks ago from the Camp for Wayward Boys and has no memory of what happened.

Nora comes to care for Oliver, but has no choice but to find out what really happened the night he went missing and how he could still be alive. Because Oliver is not the only boy who went missing that night.

Like the Wicked Deep, this more horror than mystery but it has a strong mystery element in it, with another twist suiting a mystery. Like the Wicked Deep, it is also very atmospheric.

There's someone inside your house by Stephanie Perkins

This is a slasher book, but it's also quite heavy on the romance. It's been a while since I read it, and I think there's also a movie of it on Netflix and I think they have a very different ending and a different killer so I'm not sure which happens in which anymore. I think the movie did better in regards of suspense and tension than the book so maybe I'd recommend the movie first? They have some of the same characters and are both slasher/serial killer stories but I think in the movie the deaths were more impactful and the reveal was more exciting.

The story follow Makani, who moved to the town from Hawaii after an incident there, which is hinted at and revealed later on (but I kind of found it underwhelming and weird), and then she makes a couple friends and meets Ollie and teens at her school start dying.

A Lesson in Vengeance by Victoria Lee is not exactly mystery, but it does have murder in it

It is a dark academia set on a very fancy boarding school, and Felicity returns there for her last year after staying away for some time after her first girlfriend had died. Here, she meets new student Ellis, a teen writing prodigy with her first book out, who calls herself a method writer and is now researching an old story about witches that are said to have lived and died on the school grounds. It is part romance between the two girls, but the whole story is pretty dark and messed up and Felicity is at times convinced that these witches might be real and responsible for her girlfriend's death. This is not an easy book to explain but it really was quite good.

The Dead and the Dark is a paranormal/horror mystery set in a small town in Oregon. Because apparently Oregon is where all the spooky paranormal mystery things happen? I don't know, it seems to be a popular location

Logan's two dads host a ghost hunting show together, and have traveled to this town, which is also their hometown, for the new season. But teenagers are disappearing and there might be something really spooky going on here, and Logan has the feeling her dads are keeping secrets from her.

Ashley is a girl who has lived in this town her entire life, and her boyfriend was the first to go missing. Now, Logan is her only hope to find him.

This is a sapphic story as well as a paranormal mystery, but the emphasis is more on the mystery, I think. There are ghosts in here and a pretty sinister and quite creative explanation for what is happening in this town and why.

Last on the list is Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas

More fantasy than murder mystery, but the main premise is that a boy dies and the main character, Yadriel, accidently summons his ghost. Yadriel is a brujo, and in his community brujo's can speak with ghosts, but his family was hesitant to let him use his powers because he's transgender and they're not sure if he can be a brujo or would wield female powers instead. When he summons Julian, Julian wants Yadriel to find out who killed him, and the two go on an investigation. But the longer they are together, the more Yadriel wants Julian to stay with him.

10. A book that didn’t live up to my expectations.

“Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit” by Jeanette Winterson. I had high hopes for this book as I see her quoted everywhere and the thought of poetic prose had me panting… alas, I didn’t enjoy it at all :(

12. What was the most unexpected book I read this year?

This would easily be “The Sister” by Poppy Adams. Not widely received overall by I had to give it a chance as it seemed so me!!! Gothic setting, elaborate descriptions of entomology & lepidoptery that didn’t shy away from sickly details and minutiae that made the tale so believable and immersive. It was just unexpectedly enjoyable 🦋
