🧠 FREE WRITING LESSON — THE MOST POWERFUL CHARACTER DEPTH TRICK YOU’LL EVER READ.
Let’s say your character sucks.
She’s flat. Predictable. “Strong” in all the wrong ways. Let’s call her Nicolle. Or Carol. Or whatever name Hollywood gave her.
She’s a superhero. She’s got powers. She’s got sarcasm. She takes no shit. She leads the squad. She’s admired by everyone — and loved by no one.
You’ve seen this character before. Now watch what happens when you give her one secret she doesn’t brag about.
Nicolle has two sons.
She’s raising them alone — to become men like her late father: A man who sacrificed everything to raise her after her mother disappeared, broke, or gave up.
The world sees Nicolle as the apex of visual empowerment. But the world doesn’t see:
The arguments with her boys’ father — about what being a real dad means.
The prayers whispered in the dark over a fevered forehead.
The way she ghosted the only man she maybe wanted, not because she’s flaky — but because she doesn’t know if wanting love makes her a bad mother.
The nights she tucks her boys in, then collapses into her bed, staring at the ceiling, heart full of ache, because she gave the world her strength but kept no one to hold hers.
They don’t see the days her sons cry after watching her get slammed through buildings on TV.
Held by the throat. Left for dead. Motionless for seconds too long. Until she rises — because she has to.
They don’t see the breakdowns. They don’t see her flinch.
They assume she doesn’t feel fear. But the truth?
She feels it every single time.
She’s not fearless. She’s never been. But fear is a luxury she doesn’t have.
That’s a luxury for men. She is a god. And she will make any threat scream that truth — as she crushes it beneath her bleeding hands.
Because when demons invade, tyrants rise, and monsters descend, She suits up.
Not for hashtags. Not for feminism. Not for attention.
She suits up because the idea of her sons growing up in a world she could’ve fought for and didn’t — is more terrifying than death itself.
And she will not let the universe teach her boys that their mother ever cowered.
🔺 THE TRIFECTA THAT MAKES ANY SUPERHERO NEXT-LEVEL:
Intimacy. Contradiction. Duty.
Intimacy gives them a soul — something they protect more than their own body.
Contradiction gives them depth — because perfection is forgettable, but conflict creates memory.
Duty gives them immortality — because we remember those who bled for more than applause.
Give a character that trifecta — and suddenly:
She’s not annoying. She’s haunting. She’s not fanfiction. She’s canon. She’s not shallow. She’s legend.
✍️ That’s how you fix a weak character. You don’t soften her. You give her something to fight that fists can’t touch.
And suddenly?
She’s not a girlboss. She’s the last myth your enemies ever tell themselves before they die.

FAVORITE LINES FROM EVERY SONG I LIKE
Alexander Hamilton (Hamilton: An American Musical by Lin Manuel-Miranda)
#hamilton#alexander hamilton#lin manuel miranda#musicedit#hamiltonedit#cinemapix#favlyrics#mystuff#amrev#surprisingly (or not) it's been rlly hard picking favlines from hamilton bc everything is so uniformly consistently great#from the structure and the way lmm uses language poetically to the way it all serves the plot and characters#in the end i went with this for alexander hamilton which are very simple lines and yet#are immediately iconic and packing a punch and showing exactly who this character is how he thinks and what he came here for#there is a whole emotional history contained in these lines and they also hold the enormity of his desire#besides working extremely well in the song itself by being boldened by contrast to the melody and the verses around it

fire at will and where we went wrong actually have a lot of similarities in structure and im only now realizing how deep that goes. i have one whole gimmick
#personal#the main similarity being that mikey is 100% the protagonist and leo is 100% the main emotional antagonist#i mean mikey doesn't really SEEM like it in faw so far; but on the hero's side he is definitely the leading force#its kind of the point that he'll end up having a mostly offscreen arc because faw is from the perspective of the villains#listen it's just ... more fun to write deeper emotional conflicts from an outside perspective .... although in wwww.#donnie and mikey are a lot closer to the conflict because it's overtly About them. in faw there's really not much they can do#if you like faw's plot structure you will probably really like wwww at least! it'll even have a happy ending#and its more silly and comedic

i'm gonna be the one insufferable bastard on this earth that liked everhood 2, huh
#my posts#everhood 2#everhood 2 spoilers#if i get right down to it. what did i want from this game?#well i wanted more BANGER music. i wanted to be overwhelmed and surprised and lost and to feel shrimp emotions on existential scale#did i get these things? well... yeah! i did actually! were they worth anything less in that moment for how it ended?#it was real to me in that moment. i remember these feelings. i remember them warmly. those little aliens destroyed me i tried so hard#and the world where i got the green weapon had me making the crying cat meme face#i burst out fucking laughing many times#they happened and they were real then so why not now?#and honestly what COULD you do with the narrative at that point? anything less than fundamentally radical would ring hollow#like you could do a traditional plot that functions correctly and moves characters along arcs. but is that REALLY what you wanted?#in EVERHOOD? In everhood. you wanted a normal plot structure. in everhood?#and what else could you have even done that wasnt in essence rehashing everhood 1? i think i liked it better than where it was ALMOST going#it felt like a fever dream to play. like watching alice in wonderland. shit just happens man. these stories are rare#we've made the euthanasia rollercoaster into a fractal. spiral tighter run faster reach higher yearn forever.#fall into the kaleidoscope and grab your popcorn to watch the infinite combinations of static on the screen#you were there. you felt things. you can draw anything out of nothing. you can send everything back to nothing. for the love of god make ar#any art. any quality. just something that was real to you in that moment and in so doing forever. if someone tells you youre doing it wrong#then you should explode with your mind and in your art and LAUGH#apathy's a tragedy and boredom is a crime anything and everything all of the time#(its fine to dislike it i just found it fascinating in a way which is often more interesting than ''good''.)#(i live for the intersection of absurdity and meaning)#also i felt closer to the companions in this game than EH 1 since you spent more time in them#also cmon we got time with the sexiest character in the foreign gnome universe. the pandering one for a CERTAIN demographic. w big assets.#THATS RIGHT IM TALKIN ABOUT IRVINE BAYBEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!#you thought i was gonna say someone else? well tough shit. youre wrong.#anyway my main quibble with this game really was the english translation needed more time to cook for real

One of the other things I wrote while away was brain-dump of bullet points on Lymond thoughts (as also I finished reading Game of Kings - what a bloody stellar ending, reuniting him with his mother!!!!), but without digging up my notebook, the key lingering take-away was:
This book did ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING that all those writing guides tell you NOT to do
#lymond chronicles#pacing what pacing? pacing is boring just pay attention to this bit yeah?#climax? you missed it: richard's emotional revelation and francis screaming after richard reopened his wounds SYMOBOSMLISMSSSSssssss#ah the *plot* climax? a zero-action scene of endless dialogue and a lawyer getting an erection and wanting to marry lymond for his Brain#love interest? ahahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa#literal gay accusations? sure why not#having the man who betrayed you decide to play STRIP POKER for 12 hours to save your life? all while he's wildly confused about why-#-he's doing it? sure!!!#maddest bloody novel ever#it is a technical masterpiece in how it holds together at all I want to smack it open like a walnut and try to see what i can learn#*structurally*. except if i do i know it will lose its unexpected delightful nature#so i'll just stand back and delight in how it pulled off everything writers are told never to do

Ok this is gonna sound like a shitty question by I'm being 100% genuine: was anyone actually surprised when Isha died? I remember going online and seeing people who were in shock and horror that they killed her but like...the second I saw her appear onscreen I knew she was destined to die in some tragically horrible way. You don't just introduce a random kid into the life of your most mentally unstable and traumatized character and let her live
#like I didn't have a big emotional response when it happened because I knew it had to be coming eventually#of course seeing jinx's reaction was brutal but I cried way more during episode 9 than I did when Isha sacrificed herself#idk maybe it's just because I know how stories and plot structures work because I'm a writer#but come on was anyone actually like seriously blindsided by it#wirepost#arcane spoilers#arcane

u ever read a book that has cool ideas and compelling characters and the writing itself is decent but. there is just a total lack of actual storytelling skill. and it's 1000+ pages.
#i shant say which book but#i got 600 pages in before i realized what had been bothering me about it#and why so many ostensibly meaningful moments fell sorta flat#the relevant info was just dropped on you all at once#so whatever emotions the writer wanted to evoke were just. absent#bc there was no build up there is no payoff#also there are no distinct voices#and all the characters monologue too much#sigh#the premise is interesting so i wanted to like it#i was struggling to identify what felt off about it#bc it wasnt exactly “structure” or “plot” per se#all that stuff is relative#it's the skill of storytelling#of using words and setting and plot and structure and voices to evoke something#not just lining up all the events and narrating them#anyways#i lost sleep over this :|

Time for my daily thoughts about how Jaws is rife with potential for an anti imperialist anti capitalist analysis
#TAGS RANT INCOMING:#the 2 shark incidents which have the most emotional impact are: the main plot w Bruce n the Boys AND quint in the Indianapolis incident#the sharks in these stories are secondary to the human conflict that propelled the story forward#1: a mayor’s greed and desire for money and 2: a country’s greed and desire for domination.#the sharks are vessels that convey the powerlessness that the individual feels in the face of structural and societal violence#i think there’s also an interesting parallel there. shark attacks are incidental -#they have no desire to eat humans but sometimes mistake them for a food source#meanwhile the death of Alex kintner- which Mrs. kintner blames on Brody - was also not intentional#and was caused by Brody initially mistaking the mayor and the medical examiner’s coercion as somewhat genuine/truthful#humans and sharks both have the capacity to do harm#but it’s the environment around them that should be examined when this harm is done#don’t even get me started on quint’s ptsd and ‘I’ll never wear a life jacket again’ and perpetuating cycles of violence#ummm teehee anyways#jaws 1975#I’m no deep analytic writer and I in fact struggle with themes and interpretation so this may all seem pretty surface level but anyways#i just wanted to yap

Delving into Poetic Wisdom: A Review of "On the Art of Poetry" by Aristotle
Aristotle's "On the Art of Poetry," translated by Ingram Bywater, stands as a seminal work in literary criticism, offering profound insights into the nature and function of poetry that continue to resonate with readers and scholars alike. Written in the 4th century BCE, this treatise serves as a comprehensive examination of the principles and techniques that underlie the creation of poetry, providing valuable guidance for poets and readers alike.
At its core, "On the Art of Poetry" is a testament to Aristotle's keen intellect and analytical prowess. In this work, Aristotle explores the various elements that contribute to the effectiveness of poetry, including plot, character, diction, and spectacle. Through his systematic analysis, Aristotle seeks to uncover the universal principles that govern the art of poetry, shedding light on its essential nature and its role in human society.
One of the most compelling aspects of "On the Art of Poetry" is Aristotle's emphasis on the importance of mimesis, or imitation, in poetry. According to Aristotle, poetry is a form of imitation that seeks to represent the actions, emotions, and experiences of human life. Through the skillful use of language and imagery, poets are able to create a vivid and lifelike portrayal of the world, inviting readers to engage with their work on a profound emotional and intellectual level.
Moreover, "On the Art of Poetry" offers valuable insights into the principles of dramatic structure and the role of catharsis in tragedy. Aristotle argues that tragedy is a form of poetry that evokes feelings of pity and fear in the audience, leading to a purgation or cleansing of these emotions. Through the depiction of the fall of a tragic hero, tragedy allows audiences to confront their own mortality and the fragility of human existence, ultimately leading to a deeper understanding of the human condition.
In addition to its exploration of tragedy, "On the Art of Poetry" also examines the principles of comedy and epic poetry, providing valuable guidance for poets working in these genres. Aristotle discusses the importance of unity of plot, character, and theme in epic poetry, as well as the role of humor and satire in comedy. Through his analysis, Aristotle highlights the diversity of poetic forms and the unique challenges and opportunities that each genre presents to the poet.
In conclusion, "On the Art of Poetry" by Aristotle is a timeless classic that continues to inspire and enlighten readers with its profound insights into the nature of poetry. Aristotle's systematic approach to literary criticism, coupled with his keen observations and analytical rigor, make this work an indispensable resource for anyone interested in the art of poetry. With its timeless wisdom and enduring relevance, "On the Art of Poetry" remains a cornerstone of literary theory and a testament to the enduring power of poetic expression.
Aristotle's "On the Art of Poetry," is available in Amazon in paperback 12.99$ and hardcover 18.99$ editions.

i completely and absolutely hallucinated the last time i read firestar apparently bc i was ten thousand percent sure russ shot beargstrom at the end. i thought that man was so dead. so imagine my surprise rereading tfe properly rn.
(i was already too confused by whos who irt the bears last time anyway so if anything its making me feel LESS stupid that i just misread a paragraph and fucked up the entire plotline for myself <- it will happen again)
consider this a public acknowledgment that it turns out idk what the hell is happening in these books, soz <3 i will continue to lie by accident and make shit up 🥰
#rangnar rambles#if you ever read a matt ragnars tooth tag about how Mysterious bergstrom is and how little happened with him just know: i forgor#tbf he doesnt do MUCH more than i misremembered. i still dont know what his deal is. but in the intended way now <3#anyways my tragic old man yaoi just got less tragic and tbh i preferred it when i thought they killed eachother /j#turns out. if you read carefully#the plot makes sense.#this is not foolproof (good god it is Not foolproof) alas. it does help to not devour seven books in a weekend#relatedly i read fireworld way too young and had reocurring dreams about it that i then was very confused about on my initial reread#(i was 8 when that thang came out. didnt read the book properly again for 12 years. Bewildered and appauled that lucy was not locked#in a tower and tam was a full knight in real armour </3)#everyone was stuck in a like. roman bath ruin. and also were sometimes statues. could not tell you what i thought was happening#could tell you i was entranced by the weeping angels dw episode and live near roman bath ruins. and have arthurian autism#you know what. embarrasingly i know exactly why i misread this bit of firestar. its bc i was so stressed out (from the books tension.#nothing else in my new adult life i was living) that i was blitzing through the last third#the tension worked on me so well i made up a character death. and then confirmed it for myself bc if davids not safe#why the hell would bergstrom be <- not flawed logic persay. still stupid#and i know this bc it happened AGAIN#i am not immune to the emotional impacts of firestar...#i can look at it and go 'hmm this structure is maybe a bit rushed and idk that it was a good idea to introduce huge changes/characters#in the last 100 pages' but it is also my favourite in the series for those exact reasons. i love a book that makes me sprint and trip on my#face. i love not knowing what the fuck is happening at any point in time#i loved when i thought bergstrom and russ were in love and russ killed him in an act of mercy he didnt know he was committing 😔but ill LIVE#I GUESS. if i MUST#in all ramble posts i hit a point of 'thats too many tags. into the drafts of shame it goes!'. and then keep talking anyway#and eventually hit 'this is absurdly too many tags. PERFECT.' guess where we are
