Holy fuck
People.
I have hyper empathy. That's why I get drained so easily in social situations! Oh my god this is a revelation. Amazing. Holy cow. I always knew people tired me out, but I never knew why!

Gosh, I’ve been trying to speculate as to what disability/disabilities Darla could have and there’s really nothing I feel I could confidently propose simply because Darla hasn’t historically received an in-depth enough portrayal that shows her in enough of a variety of situations and showcasing enough of a variety of issues for there to be anything that I think she textually fits a good amount of the qualifications for.
#like I think there’s a good case to be made for the ‘deficit’ in social communication part of autism#but there’s not really anything that could be pointed to for the restricted behaviors component#but I feel that arguing for social communication disorder is too limited#as then I don’t think it would properly account for what she has been shown to have#and doesn’t properly account for the fact that she’s disabled to the extent of requiring an I.E.P.#same issue with arguing she has ADHD#well- she could conceivably have ADHD but if so I don’t think that that would be all she has#issues with understanding social situations as well as either an issue with volume control or awareness of social norms around volume#are very recurring traits#her shouting excitedly in a scene where everyone else is not only speaking at a regular volume but treating it as a serious situation#and what she says demonstrating that she doesn’t fully understand the serious situation in the way everyone else does#is probably her most recurring character trait#I believes there’s also been a suggestion of her having memory issues#the first issue of the 2019 ongoing has her mention that she’s always told that she talks to much#as well as has her speak at the dinner table when Billy was specifically addressed#and the information that she volunteers there is something the other kids were trying to keep from the parents#so Mary has to cover for her and be like oh wow I can’t believe we forgot to tell you#it’s not that autism couldn’t be used to explain that so much as there’s a lot more to autism than just that sort of thing#hm I think her deep empathy for animals could also be interpreted as an autism thing tho#but again- still not really anything on restricted behaviors with regards to sensory issues or anything#highly possibly that there’s another relevant condition other than the 3 I mentioned here that I’m not thinking of#my posts

Understanding Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD) and Navigating the Storm of Narcissistic Abuse
Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD) is a complex and often misunderstood condition that can have profound effects on relationships and personal well-being. At its core, NPD is characterized by an inflated sense of self-importance, a deep need for excessive attention and admiration, troubled relationships, and a lack of empathy for others. But behind this mask of extreme confidence lies a…

‘We feel more empathy towards humans than animals because humans are phylogenetically closer to us’
Do you think this is true?
I am a woman with a Empathy Deficit Disorder (EDD), this means that I have no sympathy for humans at all, and this is not my fault, I just have this.
So for me this is not true, yes I have EDD, but I appreciate, love and sympathize with animals, I think because I am used to seeing them as weak beings, their only purpose is to live, I could understand them, maybe that's why I could feel these feelings for them.

maybe cas didn't realise sam came back Wrong in s6 because normal sam has an empathy deficit disorder. so usually sam's meter for what is wrong and right is his own guilt and hurt, and using logic to work towards other people not feeling the way he feels. instead of actual feelings of empathy. so really the difference between regular sam and soulless sam wasn't so much his outwards feelings, he was still pretty neutral towards others. it was his lack of self hatred and self doubt, which used to be his reference for how to treat (or how not to treat) people.
and yeah if cas had really Looked at sam he probably would have seen that his soul was gone, but i think first of all cas at this point in time did not doubt himself. he had just defeated two archangels and was brought back to life, and he had taken on the role of army leader against another archangel. he felt drunk on power and that made him sloppy. he didn't pause to check that everything was alright.
and at first sight everything did appear normal. sam looked like sam, and his energy was a little off, but sam was a weirdo who had spent the past couple of years toying with an addiction to demon blood and had just had lucifer in his head for a while, and cas didn't want to stick around because he didn't want sam to know he was the one who had rescued him. so he just said "i will respect sam's right to be strange" and moved on.
sam and cas' relationship has always been like that anyway. they don't fully understand each other, but they respect each other's weirdness. that's what girl besties do

death note — neurodivergent headcanons:
lawliet: autism (asd)
when he was little, he refused to wear socks because he hated the way they seams felt on his feet. eventually watari gave up on trying to make him wear them and just had him wear shoes that didn't require them — that was until lawliet realized the benefit to not wearing shoes and just started going barefoot.
along with that, he used to never wear jeans as a child because they were too tight and uncomfortable. the same thing goes for long sleeves. this meant he typically wore sweatpants and loose tanktops until he realized he can simply start wearing oversized clothing.
sweets are his safe foods. he typically goes for small candies like m&ms when he's feeling more picky, but he generally enjoys anything ranging from cake to pastries. he also really likes milkshakes and the occasional smoothie.
since he can't read tones, he doesn't always take people's sarcasm as a joke if he's unfamiliar with them. however, that doesn't stop him from having a very sarcastic and dry sense of humor himself. unfortunately, most people don't realize he's also joking due to his monotone voice and lack of facial expressions.
lawliet struggles with empathy. he often finds it hard to sympathize with people who he feels are making a bad decisions. he values logic over emotional reasoning and gets annoyed when people don't see things the same way as him. he’s willing to make extreme decisions and take an ends-justify-the-means approach. he also doesn't see the appeal in formalities and views them as a waste of time. this can lead to him being very brunt and straight to the point, not bothering to mince his words. it often comes across as rude, especially if it's to someone he sees as being less than him.
light: obsessive compulsive disorder (ocd)
he always has to have things a very specific way. not exactly tidy — although he hates messes and being unorganized — but simply "his way." otherwise, he constantly feels off and uncomfortable.
he prefers to work alone because of this. group projects were always a nightmare for him. not only did he want his work area to be organized a specific way, but any essay or project he worked on also had to follow a specific order. along with that, he has to began his work in calculated steps or he'd grow too irritated and frustrated.
his mother quickly learned when he was younger that none of his food could touch or he wouldn't eat dinner. that, and he had to eat each section in order or he didn't feel full.
he'd end up conveniencing himself that if he didn't fill out all the questions on a test in the correct order then he'd end up failing, as well as other thing such as, "if i don't turn off the stove in this specific way, the house is gonna burn down." these thoughts never came across or irrational to him. even when he didn't always fully believe them, he still had a voice in the back of his head telling him he was wrong. therefore, he always went along with his specific order.
he'd spiral with his thoughts a lot. if he shook someone's hand after meeting them, he'd tune out their introduction and think about what their hand has touched, when the last time they washed their hand was, when he'd be able to wash his hand. it go to the point where he'd eventually just stop touching people in general, and grew annoyed when they touched him.
matt: attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (adhd)
despite ranking at number three at the orphanage, there's actually a very big gap between near and mello's intelligence compared to matt's. he's smart, definitely, but he's not actually a genius like the other two. this caused matt to feel a great divide between himself and the other two, and he tried his best to hole up in his room and study to become like them, but it ultimately left him burnt out.
after that, matt stopped applying himself and his grades began tanking. watari realized this was a result of his unmotivation and not actual stupidity, though, so he allowed matt to keep his place as third.
matt began suffering from the pressure and anxiety he felt in trying to become one of L's successors, and during one of his walks outside the orphanage, he came across a group of people offering him a cigarette to help him chill out. matt was smart enough to know it was a bad decision, but he was also depressed and decided to take it up to help calm his nerves.
matt's hyperfixations revolve around technology. after becoming obsessed with video games, he eventually decided to learn about how people code them which lead him into being interested in coding and hacking.
he's mostly unmedicated for his adhd, though he does find a way to get adderall when he feels like it. because of his, he's extremely prone to boredom and is more than likely to give up on a specific tasks to play games instead.
he's overall very aimless due to his boredom and burnt out feelings towards bettering himself. he fills his time with exciting things like drag races and drugs, but other than that he's very shut and reclusive and unlikely to let someone pull him away from his games unless they're offering something more fun to do.
he constantly is seeking out stimulation. there's always music blasting from his headphones while he games or a radio playing while he drives.
mello: autism (asd)
his tone is typically very flat, which causes confusion when people are trying to tell his emotions. along with that, he's not very expressive physically unless mad or manic.
he gets irritated very easily when people fail to understand whether or not he's being serious or not, or if they misinterpret him. he knows deep down that it's not their fault, but he hates being reminded of how he's the problem.
he constantly feels alienated from others. he was never able to make friends in the orphanage. he always started off well, but was never able to maintain connection with others. because of this, he isolates himself from just about everyone — only really keeping in contact with lawliet, near, and matt when he's older.
he's very defensive and possessive of his interests. he doesn't like when other people dislike them, but he hates when they seem to like them a lot. he's like this with friends as well, mostly when he was younger. he also got jealous when matt hung out with other kids instead of him, especially since he already struggled to keep friends so he was worried about ruining their friendship and being abandoned.
he wished he wasn't autistic when he was younger. of course, he was nervous about what other people thought about him, but his issues typically went back to him hating how difficult everything was for him — communicating, making connections, feeling like he belonged. no matter what he did, it always felt like the wrong choice; no matter where he went, he didn't belong.
unlike many other autistic people, he doesn't hate loud noises. in fact, a majority of the music he enjoys revolves around loud sounds. however, he has to be in the right mood to listen to them. he doesn't just put music on whenever, he has to want to actively listen to it in order to stand it. similarly, he can't have anything on in the background if he's trying to get work done. his surroundings are either completely silent or shaking pictures off the wall loud.
misa: (adhd)
throughout school, misa struggled with the material more than others. she had a very short attention span and often got in trouble for daydreaming instead of focusing. this is what caused her to start becoming overly insecure about her smarts and try and make up for it by being pretty and funny.
most her hyperfixations fall into stereotypical feminine traits, such as makeup and fashion.
when her fans found out she had adhd, she played into the stereotypes and just used it to make herself seem overly bubbly and dumb as she knew it would help her as an idol. however, due to this many people started regarding her as a moron with no ideas of substance, which added to her insecurities regarding her intelligence. whenever she did try to showcase herself and her ideas, she was typically laughed at and most people thought she was joking.
since japan has very strict drug laws, she's unmedicated and her symptoms are very severe; specifically her forgetfulness, excitability, fidgeting, hyperactivity, impulsivity, irritability, lack of restraint, and persistent repetition of words or actions. she's also very prone to mood swings when provoked.
near: autism (asd) & dyspraxia
her special interests are toys. she's not very picky and likes things that range from puzzles to toy robots, but she does favor dolls. she especially likes ones that come with television shows such as ever after high, equestria girls, monster high, and my little pony. she's not ashamed of her more childlike interests either, as she grew up around solely autistic people and was never made to feel embarrassed.
near has always preferred to play by herself as a child as she often felt like other people couldn't understand how exactly her little storylines played out in her head and it would be too much work explaining them when she could just play alone. she also just generally prefers not to socialize with others unless it comes down to those she is extremely close with, such as lawliet, matt, and especially mello.
she struggles a lot when it comes to social cues. she doesn't adjust her demeanor accordingly when it comes to certain situations, which makes her come across as uncaring. pair that with her inability to make eyecontact or even bother to face someone when they're talking to her, and she appears to be very uncaring most of the time.
her main stim is twirling her hair.
she has an insistence on sameness, inflexible adherence to routines, and ritualized patterns. she usually only wears all white, and is very highly organized when it comes to her personal space and belongings. all her toys are organized by what type they are and then what color. she also prefers to stick to her comfort zone and doesn't typically leave the orphanage unless it's absolutely necessary.
near is very selective when it comes to which textures she's willing to deal with. she only wears soft clothing like pajamas, and doesn't bother wearing shoes with her socks. she also typically likes warm and soft foods, such as oatmeal or rice.
she needs to feel stimulated at all times, so she typically watches something while she eats and listens to music when she's going to bed. she'll also often have one of her shows on in the background while playing with her toys or will put on fitting music for whatever adventure she's making her toys go on.
she's not very good at taking care of herself on her own, as she'll prioritize her hobbies over things like eating and showing. she's also easily stressed and unmotivated when it comes to things she doesn't like doing, and needs someone else to help her with things such as arranging doctor appointments and flights.
she also prefers to sit on the floor and crawl between spaces rather than walking around due to her dyspraxia. when she's feeling particularly weak, she uses a wheelchair and has either gevanni, lawliet, or mello push her around depending on where she is or who she's with.

I’m asking this as an autistic person but why are low empathy and low compassion considered fine? Empathy and compassion mean just.. caring about things. Why are we saying that not caring about anyone or anything is normal? I experience empathy/mild hyperempathy and don’t understand how someone wouldn’t feel that way. Someone who doesn’t have empathy or compassion sounds like an asshole. Like how is that a symptom of a mental disorder/disability? That’s just a basic emotion? I don’t mean to sound rude but I’m seeing a lot of people get absolutely dragged for saying things as basic as ‘having empathy is good’ and I don’t get it.
first off, empathy and compassion are not simply 'caring about things'. let's compare sympathy, empathy, and compassion, three terms that are often confused with one another:
sympathy: feelings of pity for another person's misfortune
empathy: the ability to understand and share another person's feelings
compassion: similar to sympathy, but additionally implies that one has a desire to help the person they feel pity for
these are often linked (especially compassion, as it often follows empathy or sympathy) but are distinct. notably, none of them are just 'caring about things' and none of them are just 'a basic emotion'; these are specific reactions one has to situations they encounter, which can vary drastically based on a number of factors.
i'm going to primarily address low empathy after this, since low empathy is a recognized symptom of a number of disorders and it genuinely should be destigmatized.
empathy is literally experiencing the emotions one recognizes in another person. it's an uncontrollable, subconscious reaction to emotions the person picks up on around them. empathetic reactions can occur whether or not you care about another person, whether or not you know them personally, etc. essentially, empathy is 'being in a person's shoes' in the moment.
low empathy is a common symptom of a number of mental conditions. this is because many disorders affect how one navigates social interaction and interprets others' emotions. a person with low or no empathy can't simply choose to care about a person's feelings and suddenly experience empathy; they genuinely do not have the ability to feel what another person is feeling for whatever reason.
here are some neurodivergencies that can cause low empathy and how:
autism: autism causes social deficits, notably including the ability to read another person's body language. if an autistic person can't read a person's body language, that makes it much harder to figure out what emotions they're feeling at a given time, which is necessary to experience empathy.
cluster b personality disorders (aspd, bpd, hpd, npd): cluster b disorders often cause dysfunctional patterns of social behavior. these pds often affect one's self-image or ego and cause emotional disturbances, which both make it much harder to understand what another person is feeling and, in turn, feel those feelings.
trauma: any trauma-related disorder can cause low empathy. ptsd/cptsd, personality disorders, dissociative disorders, and more can affect one's empathy. trauma can, for example, cause a person to become highly focused on their own wellbeing in order to survive, which may result in a lack of empathy in typical social interaction. trauma can also cause high empathy (it seems trauma generally affects empathy for a lot of people).
alexithymia: alexithymia is the term for struggling to recognize and express emotions. this includes both one's own emotions and the emotions of those around them. alexithymia is a very common symptom of various disorders, especially neurodevelopmental disorders. according to current research, over half of all autistic people experience alexithymia, which just adds to the number of low/no empathy autistics.
traumatic brain injury: injuries to the parts of the brain that handle empathy, emotion, and social interaction can cause low empathy
as you can see, low empathy is much more common that one might assume. this is why people are criticized for implying that having low empathy is bad; low empathy is uncontrollable and a symptom of many disorders, which makes these statements either inherently or overtly ableist.
having low empathy doesn't automatically make you an asshole. your actions matter more than your internal experience; a person with low empathy may not be able to take on another person's feelings, but they can still help them in some way. it's the same for people with high empathy — experiencing another person's emotions along with them doesn't necessarily mean that you will be kind to them or offer them assistance.
importantly, a person with low/no empathy can still care about others or take actions that indicate care. you can experience sympathy and compassion without experiencing empathy (though you don't have to experience those, either, to be a good person). you don't have to be able to experience or understand another person's emotions to recognize that they're struggling.
this is a long post, sorry, but it's an important issue. being ableist is never okay, no matter how unpalatable you find the symptom.

How Do My Autism, PDs, and DID Interact/Intertwine?
Disorders mentioned in this post: autism spectrum disorder (ASD), attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), tourette syndrome (TS), fetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD), dissociative identity disorder (DID), antisocial personality disorder (ASPD), narcissistic personality disorder (NPD), and schizotypal personality disorder (STPD)
(This post was requested by a mutual, I hope you find this (somewhat) helpful and I apologize for taking a million years to post it 🙃)
I have a whole host of disorders, pretty much all of which affect my personality, identity, and way I interact with the world around me. A lot of people look at the combinations of disorders I have and tell me I can't possibly have them (this is especially popular with autism and ASPD, as well as autism and STPD), when I do in fact have them and they suck ass.
To begin with, since I have DID, my other disorders vary drastically in symptoms from alter to alter. It is important to note that individuals with DID will likely only be diagnosed with other disorders alongside DID if most or all of the frequently fronting alters show symptoms and those symptoms impair the whole. Disorders like autism, Tourette, ADHD, and FASD are system-wide disorders due to the nature of their development. Personality disorders are usually diagnosed at the discretion of the therapist or psychiatrist who is doing the diagnosis.
My combination of autism, NPD, and ASPD resulted in an individual who lacks essentially all empathy, is very isolated, and is really sensitive to perceived slights or criticisms.
I have the psychopathic subtype of ASPD, which means that even if I didn't have NPD I would have narcissistic traits. Alongside heightened NPD traits, I am also more prone to violence and aggression (it is important to note that most psychopaths and individuals with ASPD are not criminals or extremely aggressive). Features of psychopathy that I display are typical antisocial behaviors (disregard for societal norms and rules, essentially), increased aggression and violence, lack of empathy and remorse/guilt, and manipulative and deceitful behaviors.
When it comes to autism and ASPD, the only real trait my presentation has in common is a lack of empathy. Communication problems can arise for individuals who have both disorders, but for different reasons (my ASPD communication problems are almost exclusively related to my disregard for others and lack of remorse; while my autistic communication problems stem from a fundamental misunderstanding of social norms, sarcasm, facial expressions, gestures, and figurative language). Individuals who have ASPD will not experience any developmental delays like autism (delayed speech, social ineptitude, etc.).
My ASPD and NPD go hand-in-hand pretty well. The earliest memory I have of exhibiting antisocial behaviors is at age 8 when I would repeatedly steal candy from my friend's school locker because I felt I deserved it more than her; the theft just escalated from there. I was very good at getting people angry with me so I could take out my anger on them.
I don't feel that my autism and NPD really have that much in common, honestly.

Indigo Children, Autism Spectrum Disorder, and Akane Kurashiki: An Analysis
many people interpret the character akane kurashiki from the zero escape games as autistic, a sentiment i fully agree with. however, i haven't seen much active discussion or analysis on the how and why of this interpretation— which i want to change, since it's a far deeper connection than just coincidental coding. uchikoshi may or may not have set out to create an autistic character, but he did certainly create one that has its roots in misunderstandings of neurodivergency.
just to preface, this analysis was written by an autistic individual, so it will come from an insider's perspective. under the cut, there will be major spoilers for each game in the zero escape franchise, as well as brief implications of real world ableism, though nothing graphic is detailed.
now that the intro's out of the way, let's talk about the pseudoscientific concept of indigo children.
the long and short of indigo children is as follows: some special children are born with indigo auras, which signify a number of unusual or even supernatural traits in the child, such as telepathy or supernatural empathy. according to the original coiner of the term, the number of these indigo children has been steadily rising since the last 1960's.
traits that indigo children reportedly have include the following:
high empathy, innate curiosity, and a strong will
are perceived by those around them as being "strange" or "unusual"
have a clear idea of what their purpose in life is and feel entitled or deserving
an inherently accurate intuition
resistance to rigid authorial structures and control from outsiders
a subconscious spiritual strength (though this doesn't necessarily apply to religion or faith)
obviously, these listed traits are nowhere near specific enough to supplement an actual diagnosis for autism. those who believe in the concept and parent a supposed "indigo child" often forego a proper diagnosis, as they believe that autism spectrum disorder is an inherently bad condition (which, to be clear, autism is not bad in any way). however, we can make connections from indigo children to the DSM-5's criteria for autism spectrum disorder.
the most obvious example being the perception of being "strange" or "unusual"— we can easily connect that to social deficits in individuals with ASD.
the resistance to authority and control and feeling entitled most closely matches with an insistence on sameness and their own repetitions.
the innate curiosity and intuition comes into play with special interests and how autistic individuals perceive the world around them.
i want to next list out the non-behavioral evidence that akane was most certainly based on the concept of indigo children.
akane has indigo as a prominent color in her 999 design. notably, her eyes and dress are both shades of indigo, leaning towards lavender.
as an ESPer, akane has telepathic abilities (such as the ability to SHIFT as well as use telepathy by accessing the morphogenetic field).
in ZTD, it's mentioned that the number of ESPers has been on the rise recently in-universe in response to the oncoming radical-6 outbreak.
it's also worth noting that zero escape in general delves into a lot of pseudoscientific concepts throughout the series for narrative purposes.
with everything i've just laid out in mind, i want to make the connection that akane kurashiki, who is based on the indigo children, is autistic, by listing her behaviors over the course of the series that match up with the DSM-5 criteria for ASD.
persistent deficits in social communication and social interaction across multiple contexts (social-emotional reciprocity, nonverbal communicative behaviors used for social interaction, developing, maintaining, and understanding relationships)
social-emotional reciprocity: akane has been shown to talk over others about whatever's on her mind at the time (in particular, this relates to her special interests, elaborated on below).
nonverbal communicative behaviors used for social interaction: there are multiple instances in 999 in particular where she doesn't understand the tone of voice that another character is using, often for comedic purposes. (in particular, the "i might get wet" scene comes to mind.)
developing, maintaining, and understanding relationships: akane has been mentioned in her childhood to have been friendless at school, save for junpei. in the interim between 999 and ZTD, she primarily worked alone. in ZTD's C-END 1, she forgoes her relationship with junpei to make the AB project a success.
restricted, repetitive patterns of behavior, interests, or activities (from the list, i specifically reference insistence on sameness, inflexible adherence to routines, or ritualized patterns of verbal or nonverbal behavior, and highly restricted, fixated interests that are abnormal in intensity or focus)
insistence on sameness, inflexible adherence to routines, or ritualized patterns of verbal or nonverbal behavior: akane is very set in her ways, and insistent on doing things her way (particularly with regards to the AB project). in a way, her "I will achieve the best possible timeline no matter the cost to myself or anyone else" also reminds me of this.
highly restricted, fixated interests that are abnormal in intensity or focus: all of the conversations about psuedoscience, quantum mechanics, and conspiracy theories in 999 contribute to this. it's also evident in the way that she's fixated on rabbits throughout the series.
there's a reason why so many of the autistic individuals i've seen play the zero escape games resonate and adore akane so much- it's because she's a genuine, authentic portrayal of the autistic experience, even if it's never stated outright. she's a flawed, yet idealistic character, with one foot in objective reality and the other in her own perfect world. she is human in the way that so many autistic people are, and i think that's incredible. i hope that we can get more characters like akane in many other works.
if you're curious, i used this wikipedia article as a source for the information about indigo children, and this autism and health article as a source for the DSM-5 criteria for autism spectrum disorder.

Papyrus is autistic!
I believe that Papyrus from Undertale is autistic. And now, I'm going to prove that!!!
With arguments!
AND REASONS!
LETS GOOOOOOOOO!
Oh, and I confirm that Papyrus from Undermourning has ASD.
Before we start...
I just wanted to state that autism is the whole spectrum. Every person with autism is different from each other, just like neurotypical people are different from each other. People can't be more or less autistic and no one checks every single known symptom. Because they're many different symptoms and as I've said - it's the whole spectrum.
+Autism is not an illness. "Autism is a neurodevelopmental disorder marked by deficits in reciprocal social communication and the presence of restricted and repetitive patterns of behavior." (definition from: Wikipedia)
Reading social cues
So people with ASD tend to have difficulty with understanding some social situations and other people's emotions or completely misinterpret them. I want to also clear out that the austitic actually understand the basic emotions and how they look. Like smiling when you're happy, crying when you're sad, yelling when you're angry. But they can have problem with reading more complex ones.
However, worse understanding of social cues do not seem to aply to Papyrus that much BUT there is a reason I want to speak about it. You can get a feeling that Papyrus is more taught in this sphere rather than naturaly understanding things like this. You see, people with ASD can learn like normal people. So they can learn about social interactions like how to better understand emotions and react in certain moments.
For example, Papyrus understands that it's a nice thing to bring your friend a gift when you visit them. You can see it on the hang out with Undyne. But it feels more like Papyrus sees it as a rule rather than thinking if Undyne likes the gift. He just takes her word for it. On the hang out with Undyne, he is also able to notice the tension between Frisk and Undyne. But the way he reacts also feels like he learnt about this kind of situations and how he can deal with them.
Also after training with Alphys when he phones Frisk, you can see that Papyrus is aware that something is wrong with the doctor. He just doesn't says it outloud. It's even something that I have a problem with. I see that something is wrong with a person but I don't have courage to be straightforward about that because I'm not sure if I'm interpreting things correctly.
The situations where Papyrus actually seems to misinterpret social cues is when he's insulted. He always twists insults into something nice. It can be either because of very solid mentality that autistic people can have (in Papyrus case it's belief that he's the greatest and people would have no reason to insult him) or that he's actually aware that things others say aren't nice but he learnt that this is a way to deal with such situations. I personally think it's the first reason. Maybe it's because I myself tend to have very solid and hard to change beliefs.
Communication
So Papyrus is communicating very well, isn't he? And isn't autism a disorder that makes people unable to communicate properly?... Well, it's not like this. As I said, autism is the whole spectrum. And some symptoms can contrast with others. Some people with autism can have lower empathy and some can have higher empathy. Communicating is also one of those cases. Some people in spectrum may have difficulty with it but for example I'm communicating verbally very well. I even have very wider vocabulary (at least in my native language).
Actually, we can say that Papyrus has Asperger Syndrome which is a disorder in autism spectrum. I myself have Asperger Syndrome. Said syndrome is characterized by for example... very rich vocabulary. You can definetely say that Papyrus does use many different and fancy words. Just go through his dialogues in game!
You know what the autistic can be bad in? Lying. I personally never lie. I just find it one of the worst things that can be done. And Papyrus? He definetely dislike lying either. When he asks us about our clothes and we are being honest about it and won't change it later, he doesn't lie to Undyne and shows relief that he didn't have to lie to anyone. When we lie or tell the truth but change our armor, he lies to Undyne and visibly doesn't feel good about lying to his friend.
Hyperfixations and repeatability
Hyperfixations are very often in ASD. People with autism often obsess over very specific things.
Papyrus' hyperfixations are definetely puzzles and cooking spaghetti. Like, puzzles are the way he tries to capture Frisk with. He has bookshelf with complex tomes about puzzles creation. He's resposible for most of the puzzles we have to solve in Snowdin. About spaghetti, it's very obvious. This is the only thing Papyrus is cooking and you can see it's something he enjoys a lot even despite his food probably isn't too tasty...
Papyrus doesn't cook anything besides spaghetti and you know what autistic people often like? Repeatability. The autistic often stick to routine and plan their day. I myself like repeatablity and dislike unexpected changes. That's also what I have such solid beliefs that takes time to change and I believe Papyrus has the same. Now is about something else. First of all, Papyrus' clothes. Accoarding to Sans, Papyrus has been wearing the same clothes for months and didn't even take it off to shower. Sounds familiar... I MEAN-! I don't wear the same clothes for months, only for a few weeks and I take them off when I'm taking a shower. Papyrus' case is very extreme. Nonetheless, it proves my point.
We also can see his dislike to unexpected changes and unwillingness to try new things which are also often symptom of autism. I won't even explain it. I'll just put here parts of Papyrus' interview:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Stimming
There's not so many examples of it and the examples can be a little forced but I wanted to mention it anyway.
"Self-stimulatory behavior is the repetition of physical movements, sounds, words, moving objects, or other repetitive behaviors." (Wikipedia again!)
So stimming is used by people mostly to calm down but it's also very often symptom of ASD and also ADHD. For example, I can sometimes start moving back and forward without even noticing when I started doing it.
So does Papyrus stim? Well, here are my examples:
Stomping feet; Papyrus has animation where he does it. He repeatedly stomps his feet.
"Papyrus is rattling his bones."; it's one of narrator texts that can appear in Papyrus' battle which can also be read as stimming.
I understand if this argument was not very convincing. It was more an expansion than anything.
Childish?
Okay, okay Papyrus definetely does have some autistic traits but what if we're digging too deep into this? What if the point of his character was simply being childish? After all, he act like a child at times. He's gulliable as he proved with Flowey. He reads children picture books and he probably doesn't even read them by himself. Sans reads him bedtime stories. Besides books for children, Papyrus also has figures in his room and his bed looks like a bed child would sleep in...
No. Papyrus isn't childish. No, no, no, NO. It's often for autistic people to for example watch cartoons or sleep with plushies even when they're adult. Hell! Neurotypical people do that too.
Yes, Papyrus is naive. But people with ASD can often have problems with trust being little or too trusting.
So no. Papyrus is not childish. He's autistic. I hope I've been able to convince ya to this.
Thank you for reading<3

Choc Kinsley Hcs #2
Another Hc post about Choc. Though this was meant to be shorter than the last it had spiraled from here and got longer. If anyone wants to know more about Choc, I'm very willing to share what I can.
Second part to this post;
Born on April 1st, 1956, born and raised up in the Toppat clan with his younger sister, Honey and his family since his grandmother had first joined up
Has a complicated relationship with his family. All had done some lifelong, traumatic harm/abuse in their own special way. Does his best to ensure their safety, and he can't hate them but it's a disinterested sensation.
Struggled with his mental health for most if not all throughout his life since he was born. Has Empathy Deficit Disorder (EDD) but able to control it (mask) for the most part. Besides his family nobody knows and he prefers it that way
^ In turn, he picked up horrible habits that many don't know, partly resorts to indulging in it in order to get a specific job he thinks needs to be handled done
^ Tends to be a people pleaser as a result, pushes himself to be a hard worker, and learns to mask who he is for the ‘betterment’ of the people near him.
He's hard of hearing that over time as he gets older become more prominent and so wears hearing aids but often forgets to wear or rather doesn't like the feel of them.
^ Does get overwhelmed by all the sounds surrounding him to the point he is quick to tune everything out as an escape. Sometimes he does this purposely so he doesn't have to hear anyone around him too and their bickering
^  He has picked up on the silence, the smallest of details and slightest noise in turn. Though tends to space out so you can't tell if he's truly focusing and listening or not.
Beside his time as an enforcer for the clan, Choc did work in other similar fields alongside, one as an informant and the other undercover. Now mainly sticks with being in the informational sector or with his family in the kitchen area
Since his childhood, his active years as the Toppats’ enforcement to now in due time somehow managed to worm his goofy self into the heart of even the coldest, closed off people who is endeared to his charm.
^ In the clan, there's very few or no one who can find it in them to hate the guy, who apparently has a soothingly warm aura that can make anyone around him at ease.
Appears outwardly to be a 'heart on the sleeve’ sort of guy. He's observant to pick up on other people's face and body language.
Flexible in the way of being double and loose jointed; able to dislocate most if not all of his body parts with uncanny ease. All from the case of hypermobility
^ A party trick he used to do and can do now was to twist his head around like an owl and keep it in place. Same with the rest of his limbs too in a way it can't be humanly possible.
Back to his skills in combat; he enjoys putting comedic value into it, (it works surprisingly well) uses good ol’ fashioned slapstick
Naturally clumsy and accident prone as a result, is why he's seen covered up in bandages more often than not. Also, has scarring in common areas but uncommon too both he won't disclose on
Would classify himself as the clan's lead jester/clown, enjoys throwing out a  good joke at his own expense and will do anything to cheer anyone who is feeling down. Rarely do you see him ever be anything other than happy; it's almost uncanny.
High energy, so he is constantly on the move, high metabolism. He does ‘comfort eat’ and is always snacking, mostly sweets

Personality: He has attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), bipolar disorder, and dyslexia, which are all relatively mild. The only psychopathic tendencies he shows are dishonesty, ruthlessness, a struggle with empathy, promiscuity, and a near inability of distinguishing between right and wrong. When it comes to those who abuse their power and influence, he can be quite exploitative of them, ensuring that they experience a fate worse than death. Despite having inedia, he possesses a ravenous appetite because he greatly fears the idea of dying from malnourishment or dehydration. As a result of his jadedness, he tends to get quite bored easily, so he needs a sufficient amount of entertaining stimulation. He shows a deep fondness for the company of women, striving to eagerly please them and attract their attention and admiration. He has an excessive sexual desire towards women that he finds to be beautiful both on the inside and outside. Despite his promiscuous nature, he treats women with high regard, viewing them as men’s perfect and irreplaceable equal.
He’s somewhat of a hedonist, spending a chunk of his free time in pursuit of self-indulgent pleasure. He has a raunchy sense of humour and can come off as a loudmouth, talking loudly in an unpleasant and stupid way. He lacks some worldly wisdom, which often plays into his credulousness and unchecked innocence of topics he doesn’t clearly understand. He’s clumsy when handling furniture and fragile items, and is irresponsibly playful, causing annoyances and trouble for fun. He’s capable of enduring physical and mental hardships without complaining and showing what he truly feels. He’s able to dive headfirst into danger without flinching, and can come off as impatient under certain circumstances. He lacks mindful attention and active, conscious knowledge on many things, especially if they’re noticeably complicated or are disinteresting. Luckily for him, he’s mentally bright, allowing him to quickly understand and learn unfamiliar topics. He’s eager to shed blood and immensely enjoys hurting and humiliating people who deserve to suffer. He’s extremely loyal and compassionate to people he deems as personally close to him, and can be a canny satirist.
Likes: Telling random facts about world history, kind and respectful women, making homemade alcoholic beverages with his grandfather, stargazing, treasure hunting, soapy baths, people combing his hair, pulling pranks, philosophical thinking, and tactical warfare
Dislikes: Cults, false ideologies, people who take religion or religious beliefs for granted, the extreme cold, blazing deserts, when his dogs don’t follow his orders, crucifixes, apocalyptic movies and literature, orgies, and the taste of blood
Equipment:
A traveller’s backpack
Small food rations
A canteen
A compass
A first aid kit
Night vision goggles
A walkie talkie
A old picture of him and his grandfather
An evil eye amulet (it used to belong to Percy, but he gave it to him as a gift)
A pack of cigars
A golden lighter that depicts a winged scarab with a fiery sun on top of its head
An electric guitar
A barricade shield that can block some stronger spiritual and physical attacks
A fixed Buck knife
A machete
A harpoon gun
A flamethrower
A small handful of grenades
A napalm rocket launcher
An Accuracy International AS50 Sniper Rifle
A Beretta 92
A Golden Eagle
A Benelli Supernova
A Black Aces Peacekeeper
Physical and outfit appearance: He’s a 7’ 4” (223.52 cm) mesomorph with a trapezoidal figure, a chiselled musculature, broad shoulders, and prominent thighs. His grey-tinted sienna skin is snaked with dark red-violet veins and blackish freckles can be seen on the face, neck, chest, and hands. He has sunburst olivine-tradewind eyes with rose gold pupils and outlining, and his canines are sharp. He has shoulder-length pink blonde hair in a lived-in lob with faint streaks of magenta and light purple. He has the Ars Goetia sigil of Asmodeus carved into his back, healed cuts on his forearms and outer thighs, and a glaring scar on the left side of his forehead. The palm of his hands are severely burned due to handling hellfire, and his claws are painted with metallic purple nail polish. He carved a slight grin into his face, so it’ll be easier to “birth” whatever scavenger animal is coming out of his mouth.
When in his demonic form, one of his legs is a grotesquely muscular rooster and the other one is a blackish-red dragon. He has a coiled tail of a sunbeam snake, sagging breasts, the fur of an Asiatic lion, and sapphire draconic wings. He possesses three heads: that of his original face with a fiery breath (front), an Indian peacock (right), a male Oberhasli (left), and a Charolais cow (back).
In his casual clothing, he wears pinkish-grey bib overalls and glossy black combat boots with purple gold spikes. He dons a brown mustard fleece poncho with vertical lines of pumpkin orange, seafoam, indigo, and rich raspberry. He wears a black sombrero with a silky red-violet ribbon, an orange rust T-shirt, and a flannel shirt of soft purple, hot pink, and saffron-yellow. Whenever he’s hunting, he dons blaze orange vest, waterproof olive-brown boots, a greenish-black T-shirt, and a light jacket and trousers in earth-tone camouflage patterns. Hanging from his neck is a silver dog tag with his grandfather’s name, Porfirio, and a gold-plated necklace of the Sacred Heart in red zircon. He often dons his most favourite and only pair of sunglasses, which is a purplish-black with orange-tinted lenses.
As a soldier, he dons a dull bronze-hued M40 field protective mask with purple-tinted eyepieces and glossy dark purple jump boots. His spike-covered pauldrons, snake-scaled vambraces, feathery gorget, and gauntlets with razor-sharp claws are a worn gold drenched in angelic blood. He has an olive-brown WWII paratrooper package with a cartridge belt, combat suspenders, a musette bag, a canteen cover, and first aid pouch. He wears military jump trousers of olive-brown, a 506th paratrooper helmet of metallic green-orange colouration, and a purplish-red US WWII M41 field jacket. Underneath his uniform, he has a reddish-black bulletproof vest that is also immune to weak spiritual and physical attacks.
Family:
Astaroth (father)
Unnamed Mexican-American mother
Porfirio Sepúlveda (grandfather)
Daphne (grandmother)
Biography: His mother was impregnated by Astaroth, an ancient demon, and gave birth to him, being raised by a group of religious zealots. This New Mexico cult was called The Evanescent Ophidian and they vehemently worshipped Astaroth, viewing him as a legitimate god. Due to being the biological son of this “god”, the cultists deemed Maverick as the fated saviour of humanity and the embodiment of lust, naming him Asmodeus. He was forced to participate in blood rituals and sexual orgies that were all done in the name of their false god. He was treated as an object of desire and an incarnation of Astaroth’s will than a normal person with human dignity. The cult leader was referred to as The Serpent-Holder or Her Serpentine and had many husbands, but killed every single one of them out of disinterest or tried to challenge her worldview. She took particular interest in Maverick, viewing him as an asset to gain more followers and brainwash them into servitude. When he was a tween, she carved the sigil of Asmodeus on his back and told him that this will create a bond between the cult and the underworld. However, that was a lie as she only did it to sexually appease her sadistic desires and try to gain more attention from his father. She’s deeply jealous that Astaroth chose his mother rather than her because she felt as though it would validate her narcissism and need to cleanse humanity of their depravities.
His mother was the most sound-minded member of the cult, taking her parental responsibilities seriously and trying her best to nurture him. She wasn’t treated with the same respect as he and the other cultists received due to some nasty rumours that involved her, contributing to her inferiority complex and depression. She viewed Maverick as a form of false hope and an incarnation of the cult’s worst qualities and their cynical, patronising view on humanity. Despite these biases, her down-to-earth demeanour never faltered as he’s the only reason she’s still alive. She combed his hair and bathed him in soapy water on a daily basis, while providing him edible and drinkable sustenance. She also patched up any injuries he received and taught him many life lessons and random facts about history. However, the cult put heavy restrictions on the amount of food and water that was shared, and what knowledge was allowed to be shared. It made it difficult for his mother as she was often forced to starve and dehydrate herself in order to keep him alive and please the cult. She secretly got away with sharing “forbidden” knowledge, which revealed to him the amoral nature of the cult and their contradictory beliefs.
Once he became a young adult, his mother planned an escape plan and was able to notify her father through a payphone outside of the complex about the entire situation. Unfortunately, she was dying from malnourishment and one of the cultists caught wind of this escape plan. The Evanescent Ophidian would end up flaying her alive and nailing her to a cross, which is all done under The Serpent-Holder’s order. The Serpent-Holder knew this would be the end of her cult, but she didn’t want to give up a valuable asset and tried to force him to love her out of desperation. When he disobeyed her, she struck him on the side of his forehead with the back end of a hammer, which surprisingly didn’t kill him. Before she could hurt him even further, Sister Rosa and some of Demaryius’ troops raided the building. They killed all of the cultists and The Serpent-Holder tried to put up a fight, which gave Sister Rosa the chance to save Maverick. Sister Rosa brought him to his grandfather’s home somewhere in Vermont before she had to head back to Homeworld with Demaryius’ troops.
He was originally afraid and uncertain around his grandfather, Porfirio Sepúlveda, due to how most of the other adults treated him at the complex. Overtime, he warmed up to Porfirio as he went out of his way to treat his grandson with genuine tenderness and compassion. Porfirio would raise him, confidently teaching him about the bad side of religion and the history and art of war. He also taught him how to survive in the wilderness and important farming techniques. Porfirio would occasionally tell him stories about his late grandmother, Daphne, and how wonderful she was. Once in a while, Sister Rosa would check up on him, making sure that he’s doing okay as she understands how it was like to be raised in a cult. Later on in his adult years, he went through numerous jobs and relationships to varying degrees of success and enjoyment. With the help of Porfirio and Sister Rosa, he would eventually be accepted into Demaryius’ army. He joined his army because he believes that humanity deserves to be given a second chance and Porfirio sparked his interest in warfare and camaraderie.
Fun facts:
Porfirio and, by extension, Demaryius renamed Asmodues to Maverick Sepúlveda in order to help him move on from the atrocities that the cult put him through.
Porfirio was a war veteran and his hearing isn’t the greatest
Maverick and Porfirio are followers of Demaryius
Despite not being an official child of Demaryius, he considers him as one of his own
Whenever a rose has withered away or has been destroyed, Demaryius occasionally asks him to bring it back to life.
He sees Demaryius as the true saviour of humanity with a compassionate heart and a willingness to protect his children. He also views him as a tragic, melancholic, and overworked individual who should be more careful with handling his mental health. He’s happy to know that Demaryius has found love in the form of Maku, seeing him as a perfect counterpart to the magnificent, sorrowful god.
He aids in teaching the older children of Demaryius how to wield guns and explosives, and to grow their own food.
Sister Rosa and Porfirio are the two main people who sparked his interest in weapons
He likes to take a smoke break with Sister Rosa once in a blue moon
He views Sister Rosa as a hard-working, trustworthy sister figure with a great deal of independence and passion in her work. He greatly empathises with her struggles due to their formal connections with cults and how they were abused by them.
Whenever Maverick does anything stupid like say something inappropriate around the younger children or break an item that belongs to Demaryius by accident, he and Sister Rosa start bickering with one another like siblings.
He sees Koi as a pretty cool person, admiring how she’s able to keep up a more happy-go-lucky outlook on life.
He really likes her mischievous nature, so he would occasionally team up with Koi to pull goofy pranks on the older children of Demaryius.
He’s not very familiar with Kianna as he rarely sees her and interacts with her, but he feels a sense of uneasiness around her. He respectfully understands that she has trust issues with men and her childhood was rough. So, he tries to stay away from her because he deeply fears that one wrong word or action near her or directed at her would lead him to serious trouble.
He has no genitals, which technically makes him sexless
He has a habit of hoarding guns, explosives, bear traps, fishnets, and hunting knives
He performs Feng Shui on a regular basis in order to calm down his nerves
His favourite entertainment consist of slasher films, Lovecraftian horror comics, videos from the Dark Web, televised news, dance parties, karaoke nights, heavy metal rock band concerts, and serial killer documentaries.
He drools a lot whenever he’s smiling like a madman
He hates it when people refer to him by his old name
He owns eight dogs: Nebrophonos (Estrela Mountain Dog), Ichnobatus (Pyrenean Mastiff), Therodanapis (Akita), Oxyrhoe (Swedish Vallhund), Argiodus (Blue Lacy), Melanchaetes (Majorca Shepherd Dog), Oresitrophos (Czechoslovakian Wolfdog), and Amarynthus (Indian pariah dog).
He enjoys drinking craft beers, ponche navideño, sparkling rhubarb cocktails, frozen margaritas, and goat milk
He likes to eat ground beef stroganoff with pizza bagels, cooked turkey, and enchiladas
He often flirts with Miss Katherine despite her being aromantic asexual and believing that he’s being super nice.
He views Percy as his closest friend
He often gets into random arguments with Svyatopolk over the smallest of things
One time, he jokingly flirted with Svyatopolk because he was feeling particularly mischievous that day and needed something fun to do. After Koi told Svyatopolk that Maverick is not interested in men and he was playing him for a fool, a massive fight broke out between the two.
Despite being secretly afraid of Rhodopis, he likes to tease them about their height and occasional snarky attitude.
He hates it when Rhodopis teases him about lacking proper genitals
Demaryius, Sister Rosa, Koi, and Maku belong to @nunezs-stuff
Miss Katherine belongs to @vanillafalvoredcoffee
