Although I barely make content for my connverse kids, there is a series of headcanons it's storyline follows so might as well jot it down. ¯⁠\⁠( ⁠•́⁠ ͜⁠ʖ⁠ ⁠•̀⁠ )⁠/⁠¯

I headcanon that Steven isn't really immortal and that the Pink Diamond Gem will become an heirloom of sorts.

I headcanon that each of the Diamonds is some kind of representation or parallel to what forms the Universe. I don't know what the others could be, but Pink is the organic parts. Organic creatures, specially the sentient/sapient kind, is a rarity in the vast ocean of space, which was why she's the smallest.

Her affiliation to organics made her much more sympathetic and fascinated with them, and she was captivated with humans the most. Eventually, after living with them and her envy and wonder for them grew, she had the desire to be one. Or rather, something deep in her gem wanted to.

While she can make a baby without giving up her form, she chose to sacrifice herself so the gem can be passed down to Steven.

However, as Pink/Rose and Greg are different species, there had been an inconvenience. The offspring exists, but the gem and organic connection is imperfect and unstable.* The gem needs to develop it's connection to the physical body more. This can be done by letting the body naturally learn to adapt to the gem/magic, then passing both the gem and the DNA (with that learned knowledge) down to the next generation; who's physically more capable of hosting the diamond. The result is not instantaneous so it's going to take a number of generations before the gem and body becomes perfectly fused. (Slow burn route, babyyyy)

Passing down the gem can be done in two ways.

One is the natural way: by giving birth to the child with the gem intact. Of course, this will cause the parent to die. (There miiight be a chance they will still live despite now not having a gem, if they have the technology for it. But it can get trickier down the line as the body and gem becomes more connected.)

The alternate instance the gem can be passed down is when the current keeper becomes deceased and their "Pink Form" (like the Pink Steven in Change Your Mind) appears. They will guard the gem until a progeny claims it. There's a possibility the gem rejects the new body though.

There's a cool down after the gem is passed down. Of course, that and how mentally ready the person is can affect how long the cool down lasts. (Which was why Steven's gem powers didn't come out sooner.)

I was thinking about when you inherit the gem in the second way, how part of the cool down works is that you can still see the prior host as an apparition others can't see. They can talk to you and stuff. (Guide you? Torment you? Be your friend? Idk) But they can't really interact with anything else. They disappear when the new host (keeper?) is fully mentally ready to take in the gem.

*I was wondering also. Either conveniently or by design, Steven has a positive disposition as a lower morale can disrupt the gem's balanced state. Unfortunately for our boi, he's the first meat host, so he has to learn how to keep a stable mind the hardest. 😞

OMG, thank you for the ask! So sorry about the wedding announcement—I already covered it in this other ask.

Here's the continuation.

Aang and Katara had just gotten back from the city, where they were bombarded by the press about Tenzin's wedding announcement in the paper. They decided to brush it off and headed home. When they walked into the living room, they found Bumi and Kya sitting there, both looking pretty serious.

Bumi spoke up first, "Mom, Dad, there's something you need to know," he said, laying it all out—from Tenzin not knowing about the wedding announcement to the fact that a small group of acolytes seems to be behind the whole mess. They also filled them in about how Lin had tried to contact Tenzin, but these acolytes and abbots from the air temples kept interfering. Aang shook his head, looking really frustrated. Katara rubbed her temples, clearly upset. "We need to retract that newspaper announcement," she said firmly.

Kya and Bumi exchanged glances before Kya nodded. "We'll handle it," she assured them.

Pema was speechless as she turned toward the voice. It was Sokka, Suyin’s dad.

"It's been a while since we last met," he said, his voice heavy with disappointment. "I can't believe this is how we’re reunited. "

Pema, defensive, replied, "Not to be rude, Master Sokka, but this doesn’t concern you. Tenzin and I love each other. I’m here because he wants me to marry into this family, and—"

He cut her off. "Are you so sure about that?"

Su looked puzzled. "What do you mean, Dad?"

“I saw him leaving in a hurry not long ago,” Sokka said, looking concerned. “I’m curious where he’s headed—or more importantly, who he’s going to.”

Pema immediately dashed out of the room and into the living area, where she ran into Katara and Aang.

“You!” Katara said, her eyes locking onto Pema. “You’re Pema, right?”

Pema’s eyes went wide, and she nodded, gulping.

Aang stepped forward and asked, “So, who are these acolytes involved in all this?” He paused, clearly frustrated. “And where can I find them? I need to have a word with them.”

Tenzin arrived at the farm with Oogi and quickly spotted some familiar faces—Chin and Choi.

“What are you doing here?!” they yelled, clearly upset after seeing the announcement. “Are you here to hurt Lin more?” Chin demanded.

“Leave now!” Choi shouted. “We don’t care if you’re a bender. We can’t let you near her!”

Izumi, who had heard the commotion, came over and saw Tenzin. “Please, Izumi,” Tenzin pleaded. “Let me see Lin. I need to talk to her and make things right.”

Izumi addressed Chin and Choi, who were still reluctant. “I’ll make sure Lin is safe,” she assured them. “If Tenzin does anything out of line, I’ll take care of him myself.”

As they walked in, Izumi smirked and asked, “What took you so long, lover boy?”

Tenzin just sighed, exhausted.

“I’m guessing Bumi and Kya filled you in on everything?” she added.

He nodded, “Yeah, they did.”

“Figures,” she replied, then suddenly slapped him across the face.

Tenzin was shocked but knew he probably had it coming. Izumi didn’t miss a beat. “Lin’s in her room, sleeping. She spent the whole morning crying and blaming herself for letting you go.”

Flashback 

Early in the morning, Kya, Bumi, Izumi, and Suyin headed over to Lin's place right after seeing the wedding announcement. When Lin opened the door, her eyes were red and puffy—she had obviously seen it too.

"Why are you guys here?" she asked, her voice flat.

"To check on you, duh," Suyin said, trying to lighten the mood.

"I'm okay…" Lin whispered, but the shakiness in her voice gave her away.

"Oh, come on, Lin. We know you better than that," Kya said, not buying it for a second.

"I didn't clear my schedule today just to hear you lie," Izumi added, her tone firm but concerned.

"Hey, come on, ladies. Let's not—" Bumi started, but before he could finish, Lin’s legs gave out, and she collapsed to the floor.

Izumi was at her side in an instant, pulling her into a comforting embrace. "This is all my fault," Lin choked out between sobs. "If I hadn’t ended things with him… now he’s…"

Kya and Suyin joined in, wrapping their arms around Lin, offering silent support as she cried. But Suyin, ever the blunt one, asked, "It’s just a wedding announcement, you know." She sighed, "If you love Tenzin that much, then why didn’t you ask him back sooner??"

Lin looked at her, tears streaming down her face. "I tried," she whispered. "I sent letters, I called, I even visited the air temples myself." Her voice broke as more tears fell. "But they said he doesn’t want to see nor speak to me anymore."

Everyone froze, shocked by what they were hearing. None of them knew about this.

"What? Why didn’t you tell us?" Bumi asked, his voice full of concern. "We could’ve helped you."

"I... I was the one who ended things with him," Lin admitted, her voice trembling. "So… I wanted to make things right myself."

Kya shook her head in disbelief. "I can’t believe Tenzin, that jerk."

Lin's voice cracked as she continued, "I thought I’d moved on, that I was fine with it, but the tears… they won’t stop. I love Tenzin... I love him… What do I do?...I still love him.." she sobbed, her shoulders shaking as she let out all the pain she’d been holding in.

hey!! absolutely, i would be stoked to recommend some of my favourite xiyao fics for you:

last of our kind, by shiome - a post-canon AU in which lxc chooses to take jgy to dongying after the events of guanyin temple—but jgy, struggling to recover from the injuries he sustained in the temple, has lost all of his memories of himself past the age of about 17. there’s plenty of cool dongying world-building in this “case fic,” and it’s one of my favourites. (i usually dislike fic where jgy after the sunshot campaign is referred to as meng yao, but this one is a clear exception to that rule!)

hurt/comfort variations on a poison theme, by welcome_equivocator - set during jgy’s time as chief cultivator. jgy survives an assassination attempt and says some things while delirious that lxc can’t forget he’s heard. the main story in this series is how will the morning find us? but the sequels (including one by roquen) are excellent.

it’s worth it every time, by roquen - this series includes what is legit my favourite xiyao fic of all time, the weakness of falling in love. it a canon-divergent AU based on the premise of what would happen if jgy didn’t marry qin su, and hews extremely close to canon. lots of 3zun dynamics at play here as well as an exceptionally well-developed fantastic friendship between jgy and nhs. this series also includes the only fic that has ever made me feel any real sympathy for nmj, which is a big deal for me since i struggle to enjoy nmj as a character 95% of the time. and it’s killing me but maybe that’s fine is the remaining 5%.

remains, by welcome_equivocator - just a sad post-canon rumination on what happens if lxc runs back into the collapsing guanyin temple to be with jgy as he dies. because sometimes we need to lean into the tragic catharsis of this ship.

a painting missing strokes, a song missing notes, by occasional_boy_reporter - another post-canon AU wherein jgy, lxc, and su minshan (!!!) are trying to escape to dongying, tho lxc is initially brought along as an unwilling pseudo-hostage. starts out a bit slow, since the fic creates an alternate circumstance for jgy and sms to both survive nmj’s attack in the temple, but it really does pick up steam. it’s also told from lxc’s perspective for the most part (and includes some one sided unrequited suyao, but xiyao is absolutely endgame). alas it isn’t finished yet, but i hope that the author intends to return to it.

Thoughts on the Sect Leader Wen Sizhui AU

The Sunshot campaign fails. Meng Yao and Wen Qing together manage to convince Wen Ruohan not to kill the various sect leaders and instead to subjugate them. Some are allowed to keep leading their sects as vassal sects to the Wen. Others are completely absorbed into the Wen. All are forced to share any secret knowledge or techniques they may have.

Jiang Yanli and Jin Zixuan marry, but are kept in Qishan to be used as hostages to ensure to good behavior of Jiang Cheng, Wei Wuxian, and Jin Guangshan.

(Jin Guangshan thinks he has Wen Ruohan’s good graces because he barely took part in the war and immediately surrendered, but actually Wen Ruohan is fond of Meng Yao and, as a result, thinks Jin Guangshan is trash.)

Nie Huiasang is kept to ensure the good behavior of Nie Mingjue. Lan Wangji is kept to ensure the good behavior of Lan Xichen.

With both Wen Chao and Wen Xu dead, Wen Ruohan has only one living heir: His grandson, Wen Xu’s only child, Wen Yuan.

Once again Meng Yao and Wen Qing manage to convince Wen Ruohan that the hostages could be valuable as teachers -- they’re all members of the gentry who are either skilled cultivators or (in Jiang Yangli’s case) talented administrators, and all of them have knowledge that will be useful for the heir of... basically the entire world.

They’re all always being watched by Wen disciples, but nonetheless a-Yuan becomes close to his various teachers. As he grows older, he starts to notice their fear and the way they’re all treated, and decides he doesn’t like that.

It takes years of careful maneuvering, but eventually basically all of the guards around Wen Yuan and the sect leaders are the ones who follow Wen Ning and Wen Qing, which allows everybody to have a little bit more freedom of movement.

When Wen Yuan gets a little bit older, Wen Ruohan demands all of the sect heirs his age be sent to Qishan to be raised as his personal attendants.

Junior Quartet are the main squad obviously but there are other kids too.

Sizhui is still named Sizhui but this time it’s in honor of his father and uncle, since I stan Family Man Wen Ruohan

Sizhui does not want to kill his grandfather! Wen Ruohan is good to him! But.

Wen Sizhui, his teachers, his servants, and the Wen disciples under Wen Ning, all ultimately collaborate to stage a coup. In the process, Wangxian get together, Yunmeng siblings reconcile, Jin brothers become besties, and the Junior Quartet go full poly.

Sizhui works to help the other sects re-establish themselves, but by now there’s so much weirdness that a lot of them just... kind of merge. Lan Wangji is the second young master of the Lan Sect but he’s also an honored teacher and the defacto father figure of the Wen Sect Leader so his Lan robes have little gold fire decals alongside the silver clouds. Wei Wuxian is Jiang but he’s also kind of Wen. The Jin and Ouyang remain vassal sects to the Wen so that Jin Ling and Zizhen can marry Sizhui. Lan Xichen ends up having his own kid (3zun endgame?) so Jingyi isn’t the heir anymore and he can also live with his husbands.

Wen Qing opens an all-sect medical school.

Wen Ning marries Qin Su and they have half a dozen little doe-eyed babies that have their Wei-Shushu and their Lan-Shushu wrapped around their little fingers.

Notes on the rape tag: I'm tagging it this for two reasons. One is that two of the characters have experienced violent rape in the past, and while it *probably* won't come up in any explicit detail in this fic but it very much does in the series as a whole and may be referenced. The second reason is that while it doesn't happen on-screen in this installment of the series, one of the main conflicts of this series has been Jin Ling's deception of Jiang Cheng while they are in a relationship, causing them to breakup at the end of the last (already published) fic when Jiang Cheng discovers that he'd intentionally withheld information about himself to keep Jiang Cheng from finding out that their relationship is incestuous because he does not want him to reject him for this reason as the Jiang Cheng in Jin Ling's timeline had (temporarily). Jin Ling and Jiang Cheng getting back together in this installment involves Jiang Cheng forgiving him for rape by deception and while it's not explicitly spelled out as that I think it deserves a warning. Jin Ling's actions aren't *intentionally* malicious, they're driven by fear, loneliness and selfishness, but he sure does know he's doing a bad thing and rationalizes it away until Jiang Cheng is very, very obviously and badly hurt by it.

Summary: This fic is the 5th installment of a series (first 4 are already published here: https://archiveofourown.org/series/2835754) in which a 40yo, very powerful Jin Ling time travels to the past to prevent some terrible things. Something goes wrong, he arrives years later than he meant to and gets stranded, and decides to build a life for himself and fix what he still can.

He keeps his identity a secret, joins the Jiang sect, and enters into an incestuous relationship with Jiang Cheng, his uncle, who in this world is younger than him and has absolutely no idea they're related, as Jin Ling himself has not yet been born.

He does his best to keep his loved ones from befalling the same fates as before, to varying levels of success, and spends years living this new life.

In the last installment Jin Ling convinces Jiang Cheng and Jin Guangyao to marry to keep the latter safe. Jiang Cheng discovers who Jin Ling actually is and breaks off their relationship, kicking him out, telling him he needs space to decide if he even wants to speak to him again. Jin Ling leaves, and Jiang Cheng decides to go through with the marriage to Jin Guangyao anyway.

This last installment is focused on the romantic relationship developing between Jiang Cheng and Jin Guangyao as they plan their wedding, and Jiang Cheng's lingering/Jin Guangyao's budding feelings for Jin Ling, who is trying to find a way back to his original timeline, since he is no longer wanted in this one.

Wei Wuxian seems to be far from the carefree boy Lan Wangji knew, instead almost coming off a skittish. As bruises and realizations grow, these two have a long way to go before they can find a happy ending.

Chasing Memories Worldbuilding Part 2

Because I'm bad at keeping secrets, here are the endgame ships for my AU:

Zane/Kai - I TRIED to write Zane/Pixal and Kai/Skylor but they wouldn't budge. Then when I DID write some Zane/Kai drabbles they were... so CUTE. Basically Ruby and Sapphire from SU but less wholesome love story and more "therapist trying to socialize a feral cat"

Cole/Jay/Nya - there is no love triangle. That plot line was so FORCED in canon. Why does Nya have to choose? Why can't she have both? (best part, it's LEGAL in my AU because I said so) Childhood best friends (Cole/Jay), shared music tastes (Cole/Nya) and shared inventiveness (Jay/Nya)? Uh, duh! They WORK

Lloyd/OC - obviously for when Lloyd is like, teen/young adult, and this def won't happen for a LONG time. I was so mad when I realized canon Ninjago gave him 2 prospective love interests that were each ONE HALF of the OC I made as his love interest. A princess AND an animal-shifter? How is that fair? I wrote them first, as one person!

Garmadon/Misako are totally gonna be there, but the relationship, like any, is gonna have some ROCKY points. Misako/Wu is NOT HAPPENING. CM!Wu is actually terrified of Misako and for good reason.

Wu actually has/had a love interest at one point, but she died a long time ago and he's not over it.

Will I do Scruff? Well, considering the age gap between Dareth and Ronin in my fic... no. At least, I don't think I will. Personally, with how I have their ages in my fic that leans a little bit into proshipping for me.

CM!Dareth is just a few years younger than Cyrus Borg (who I did in fact age down but he's still a good 20 years older than the Ninja) while CM!Ronin is the same age AS the Ninja (specifically the Black-N-Blue Trio). So basically that's a 40-something dating a college-age guy at the time Ronin even gets introduced. Yeah, they'd both be adults but it just feels wrong to me.

Speaking of Borg, no I'm not pairing him with Ronin either for the same reason. Or Dareth. No. Just no. There is no chemistry there.

Cyrus actually has a love interest planned for him, but that storyline, like Lloyd's, won't happen for a long time.

And at the same time, romance isn't actually a main focus of this AU. It's more worldbuilding, exploration, and story telling.

Summary:  “At 8 in the morning, Mikaela was the first to leave the apartment.  The light was much clearer at that hour, so Yuichiro allowed himself a peek into the living room.  He started looking around the walls, being attracted by the picture frames that, for some reason, were turned around; he approached one of them and held it in his hands. In front of his eyes, there was nothing more and nothing less than a photograph of him, one in which he apparently held a cheerful expression next to Mikaela;  they were both sitting on the grass somewhere that he cannot determine, but what caught his attention the most in the photograph was that between their intertwined hands, they both wear a pair of matching rings on their ring finger. 

The emotions evoked were nameless: surprise?, nostalgia?, confusion?, surprise? People had already warned him about the relationship he used to have with Mikaela, but he didn’t expect that seeing a photograph would shake his feelings so much.  He wanted to cry of sheer frustration at that moment, but he stopped himself.  After all, there was no use in thinking about what it was.” 

[Or, Mikayuu have been victims of amnesia shortly before their wedding. Maybe it was an opportunity to reconsider their choices?]

Summary:  On his way back from a funeral, Mika finds a black cat abandoned in a carton box with the name “Yuuichirou Hyakuya” scribbled on it. He takes the cat home, unaware that he is about to be swindled of all his cash in under 24 hours… If Yuu can sneak away without “the cat getting out of the bag”, that is. (AKA yuu can turn into a cat but his attempts to steal from mika and run away are thwarted by circumstances time and time again)

Mikaela immediately drops all of his work to follow Yu around. And whilst leaving secret notes for eachother, Mikaela and Yuuichiro build a relationship. Only problem: Mikaela isn’t sure how to reveal his identity. 

Will being Cupid interfere with their love lives? Or will true love prevail?

Summary: Yuuichirou Amane is a powerful necromancer, and he wishes more than anything that he was not. Seven years after coming to the Hyakuya Church, Yuuichirou is sent on a mission with Mikaela, but their small caravan is attacked en route by vampires, and Mikaela is killed in combat. Witnessing this, Yuuichirou has a necromantic meltdown that kills the remaining vampires and priests in the caravan…and revives Mikaela as a vampire. The two are taken in by Guren Ichinose, a necromancer who used to serve the Yuuichirou’s family as his tutor, who has been in hiding with his partner, Shinya, since the fire incident. A necromancer creating a vampire is an unprecedented occurrence, and so the two are tasked with researching connections between vampires and necromancers and experimenting together to test the rules of this strange new magic.

Being stuck together in an elaborate Gothic magic library-turned-laboratory brings up some issues between the two that can no longer be avoided, and the fallout leads to some exciting sensual discoveries.

10. what is your ideal ending for the series?

i'm the absolute worst person when it comes to creating an ending for a series because like—i'm a total baby! i want there to be a wonderful happy ending where ultimately the status quo remains unchanged. which absolutely cannot happen most of the time and is usually incredibly narratively unsatisfying.

from what i've heard, i really enjoy s3's idea of of aphmau delving into her past as irene and searching for divine warriors in an attempt to defeat shad.

i also enjoy the idea of her entering a self-fulfilling prophecy/corruption arc where, although she gains divine power and status, ultimately loses most of her humanity. the small happiness gained from being learning about the world, making friends, experiencing loss, being human—all of it becomes trivial, nothing.

and i'm not sure if i mentioned it but i'm really obsessed with aphmau rejecting this divinity. she's too world-weary and can't go back to being that bright-eyed vessel but she can still be a lord, and a mother, and a friend. (on the same point, as a kid i always said i wanted laurance to be shad instead of aaron but aaron remains endgame to represent aphmau breaking the endless reincarnation cycle.) i think this rejection would be in a sorta su future style where aphmau outright leaves the narrative, and we the audience never learns what happens to her because she's allowed to exist on her own now.

and oh yea ig the other characters exists too. i don't really like the time-skip and, if i had my way, i'd have to completely remove it to be happy with any of their endings but 👍 rest assured all of them are happy and alive except the bad ones. the bad ones get redeemed. or die. either one.

MY ENTIRE OPAL AU IS JUST MY OWN REINTERPRETATION OF CANON THAT I'VE FILED INTO AN ALTERNATIVE UNIVERSE.

essentially, my opal (okhasis prep academy life) au exists as one of the many "shows" created by irene as a means of entertainment while she sleeps to restore power.

i've mentioned some lore here but in my rewrite, divine warriors were humans who seeked to protect her, even hoping to ascend to godhood in order to stay with her forever. however, tragically, all of them ended up dying and irene with mad with grief. using her powerful abilities as a sanctuary goddess, she created multiple simulations inwhich her friends could "live again" (one of these being the dimension which garroth falls into in s2). inevitably though, she grows exhausted with these worlds, purges them, and starts anew.

some of these characters and worlds have diverged so completely that the characters are radically different by irene's design. in the lore, opal exists kinda as a "dollhouse" universe for irene to simply play with to her hearts content. her beloved characters that aren't quite her friends anymore but are just as cute and entertaining.

but aside from the lore, i do have a whole bunch of rewrites stuff within opal i'd love touch on. i'm actually in the middle of jotting down all of the changes i'm making in one post that'd way too long to include in this ask (unless someone wants to send me an additional one. bats eyelashes)
