hi! i just left a comment on your fic Esopus Creek and to avoid clogging up your ao3 comments i thougth id message you here! what inspired you to write that fic? whats your favorite part? also i hope youre doing well!!
Hi!! Thank you for that comment! And thank you for extending the conversation here! I don't think I've ever gotten a message on Tumblr about my fic. The inspiration came after watching the finale and wondering "okay, they ride off into the sunset... love that... but what next?". I've lived in some pretty quiet communities in the Northeast before and that final shot in the episode just felt like all those places I loved so much. I wanted the story to be contemplative and realstic, so I let the reality of the situation drive the story. I did so much research about things I never would have imagined. Like fly fishing, property values in upstate NY and probate! My favorite parts are definitely the little snippets of House and Wilson's conversations in the river. I just always heard those bits the most clearly in their voices. Thank you again for the message!

Hiii do you have any more housemd/hilson fic recs? I read your top 3 and they were all delightful 😭😭 if not no worries, your blog is so fun!!!
hey! Haha. I have a couple!
Witness, Witness by SkyeBean
(everything is the same except wilson works in princeton general — really fun! It was surprisingly, extremely well-thought out! I liked the characterizations in this one, I found what changes rly interesting)
Esopus Creek by shaycat
(Post-finale. Extremely sad, but also hopeful. A nice alternative to both of them going out, mostly from an outsider’s POV. Very sweet. And subtle. lots of fishing)
Unplanned Parenthood by pleasuretoburn
(Sequel to The Evolutionary Imperative, by the same author. Reading the previous work is required for full appreciation. There’s a part in this that made me sob because it was such a small but meaningful divergence from canon while still acknowledging what happened in canon)
i may not be as honest as i ought to be by Talls
(THE ONE INSPIRED BY PHANTOM THREAD AHAHHHAH. House gets sick. Interesting things happen. I’d say this phantom threadish dynamic would be stretching it in Any Other Relationship. BUT IT FITS PERFECTLY WITH HOUSE AND WILSON HISTORY….)

SUNY New Paltz, New York: Students and other protestors who were arrested waited in the parking lot of the Health and Wellness Center, waiting to be processed and taken to one of many jail locations, including ones in New Paltz, Esopus, Highland, Ellenville, Kingston and Wappingers Falls.
At noon on Friday, students walked out of their classes in solidarity against the university’s actions. Approximately 200 students met outside the Haggerty Administration Building, where the offices of President Wheeler’s cabinet and staff are located. Participants chanted “40,000 people dead, you’re arresting kids instead” and sang the protest song Solidarity Forever.

[START] [ABOUT AND WARNINGS] [FAQ]
Tumblr media
IRONHAWK/ Let’s go upstate
“Okay - so I know it’s a big move, but - I really like the idea of moving upstate,” you say, looking between them.  “I mean I get it if you both think it’s too much.  Maybe you’re right.  I’d need a new job.  You guys would either need to commute or only go out on missions from there, but I’ve always wanted to move away from the city and we could get some land away from prying eyes and it could just be us.”
“Yes!” Clint says quickly.  “I want to move.  I’ve always wanted a farm.  I want to get a dog.  And some ducks.”
“You know you can get a dog in the city too?” Tony says.
“It’s not as good.  They like space more,” Clint says.
Tony seems to mull things over for a little while.  “Okay,” he says.  “I’ll tell you what, I’ve been thinking that having the Avengers in the tower is a problem for a while.  It’s a big target in a highly populated tourist hotspot.  It’s not safe for us or the people of New York.  So - I’ll look for vacant land and make more of a compound.  It’ll mean we can recruit more people to work for us and train them.  We’ll have more room for Quins.  It can be like the new SHIELD, only not riddled with HYDRA and not relying on the whims of the current US government.  If I can do that we’ll find some land for us nearby and make that our home.  Sound good?”
“But how long will that take?” you ask.  “I don’t want to wait six years to move in with you both.”
Tony shook his head.  “It won’t take six years.  As soon as I have the land I’ll start building both things.  We can move out as soon as our house is done, and we don’t exactly need to have the whole Avengers Facility completed before we are using it.”
You wiggle a little in your chair, suddenly very nervous.  “We’re really doing this?”
“Do you want to?” Clint asks.
You nod excitedly.  “I really want to.”
Tumblr media
Tony immediately starts looking for land to build on.  He finds the land for the compound first, it’s a huge lot, outside of Esopus right on the Hudson river.  He’s already started building the new facility when he finds the land that will soon be your home.
All in all, it takes about a year before your house is ready to move into.  In that time the Avengers move out to the new facility - though it’s still a long way off being completed - and you start a new job working for the town clerk of Esopus part-time while thinking about what you might like to do with your life from here on out.
Tony asks both your and Clint’s opinions on the style of the house and the size, but you don’t see anything of it until he drives you out there on the day you move in.  He guides the car through the security gates and up the winding tree-lined drive.  The farmhouse is hidden from view from the street, and despite it being brand new looks like the quintessential Neoclassical style you see on farms around the area.  It’s a large house, but still a house, not the mansion you had assumed that Tony would have built going off his old place in Malibu.  It doesn’t even stand out architecturally the way the place in Malibu had.  It’s just a pretty, two-story, cream, weatherboard house with an attic, a green shingle roof, green shutters on the windows, and a large porch.  Pretty but not remarkable.
The Porch wraps around two sides of the house so that you pull up to the front on one side, and the other faces a large lake.  There are a few outbuildings near the house.  One is a large red barn, and the other is a building that looks a little like a miniature version of the house, only it has garage doors running down the side.
Tony pulls the car up at the front and looks back at you in the back seat.  “You both ready?” he asks.
“I’m already loving it,” Clint replies.
You all get out and stretch before approaching the front door.  “FRIDAY is installed and she runs the gate and the doors.  You don’t need keys, she knows you.  Biometrics, all that.  There are also sensors around the perimeter that would pick up intruders.  And yes, it can tell the difference between a person and a deer.”
You follow him inside.  There’s a staircase to the left and on the right is a formal lounge room.  “The house runs on its own arc which is in the basement.  There’s also a wine cellar down there.  That’s the formal lounge, there’s also a library just past it.”
You duck your head through the door and look down.  The lounge is mostly filled with brand-new furniture in a mixture of hardwood and greens.  The couches are all camelback and there are display cases around the room with trinkets that belong to each of you.  Beyond that, the library can be seen through a glass door.  It has floor-to-ceiling shelves filled with books.
“Tony… it’s perfect,” you say.
“Save the applause to the end,” Tony says and leads you straight ahead into the dining room.  There’s a large rectangular hardwood furniture with matching plush dining chairs.  There’s art on the walls, you recognize an Edward Weston painting and a Jackson Pollock.  Neither seems to fit the space, but definitely reflects Tony’s style.  He doesn’t pause in the room but keeps going through to the kitchen.  It’s a huge space with black galaxy granite benchtops and dark hardwood cabinets.  There’s a small table and chairs by the window for informal meals.
“I love this,” you say, looking around.  “So much space.”
He smiles and keeps walking into the informal lounge which is set up with furniture you all already had as well as a large TV and gaming console.  “There’s a bathroom through there,” he said pointing to a door on the left.
He turns left and opens the door to a smaller hidden staircase.  But opens the door opposite first.  “My workshop,” he says.
You and Clint poke your head through and your eyes nearly bug out of your head.  The door leads to a platform that has a staircase leading down to the workshop floor.  The space is enclosed in glass like a conservatory, but it’s filled with mechanical equipment.  Some of his suits line the wall and DUM-E and DUM-U are moving around the floor.
“Holy shit, Tones,” Clint says.  “Are we going to be able to get you to leave it?”
Tony laughs.  “You’ll have to bribe me.  Lucky the two of you both have things I like more than the lab.”
“Bedrooms?” you ask.
“Yeah, that’s a good place for you to show me those things I like so much,” Tony teases and leads you back through the door and up the staircase.  “There are four bedrooms up here, they all have their own bathrooms, but the main is the nicest.”
You follow him into the large master bedroom. The large bay window looks out over the lake and the four-poster king bed sits against the wall facing it.  There’s a fainting couch under the window and a chest at the end of the bed.  The bathroom is large, with a bath big enough for all of you, individual sinks, and a shower that takes up the length of a wall, with multiple shower heads.  The walk-in closet has already had everything unpacked, one whole section is just Tony’s suits.  There’s a floating island in the middle of the wardrobe with drawers for not only socks and underwear, but for things like jewelry and watches. At the end of the island is a sofa chair so it’s easier to take shoes on and off.
“It’s perfect, Tony,” you say.
“There’s also a room in the attic.  I kind of love the space.  It has little secret doors and big beams.  I don’t know, it’d make a great artist space or -” he pauses and shrugs “- a gym maybe.”
You look out the back of the house and down onto the grounds.  There’s a large wooded area, but also paddocks, and just below the window is a pool.  “We’re going to be really happy here, aren’t we?” Clint asks.
“I think so,” Tony says.  “Now … about those things I love?”
Tumblr media
The three of you are deliriously happy living together out on the farm.  You have the privacy to just be. There are no real rumors out there about the three of you being together, so you never have to worry about being bothered by the press waiting outside.  The news gets out that Tony Stark lives there, but the Avengers facility up the road is the real draw for the crowd, and with staff that comes and goes, no one notices that it’s not just Tony living there.
Tony and Clint go into the compound less and less, Clint mostly trains at home, and Tony spends his free time in his lab.  You start exploring your own passions more.  You make a space in the attic for art and writing.  You start a huge vegetable garden and plant some fruit trees.  You join Clint while he’s out training.  You even have Tony show you some things in his lab.
After four months, Clint brings a dog home from a mission. He’s been beaten up and had surgery from getting in a fight with some of the bad guys, and Clint’s determined to give him a good home.  A few months after that, the three of you go to a farm and Tony picks out an alpaca.  Four months after that the three of you buy horses.
You’re deliriously happy.  Clint and Tony are your people.  The three of you are having dinner one night when they drop a bomb on you.
“How would you feel about kids?” Tony asks.
Clint looks around excitedly.  “Really?  I kind of thought you’d never want them?”
“You want them then, Clint?” Tony asks.
“I mean - yeah.  I’ve always liked kids.  But I love you guys.  If the choice was either of you or kids - I pick you.  In fact, I just assumed that’s what I’d done,” Clint explains.
“Yeah - I mean - I never even considered having kids before.  I don’t want kids with anyone.  I want them with you two,” Tony says.
“This is big,” you say.  “Are you both sure you’ve considered everything?”
Tony nods.  “Well, I mean, I haven’t completely gone down the rabbit hole, but I wanted to at least talk about it as something we do in the future or not to know if I should.”
“I guess it’s up to you,” Clint says, wincing a little.  “No pressure.”
We need to figure out the details but in theory, I’d love to have kids with you both
I’ve never really wanted kids, sorry.
