sometimes it's like. i don't really wanna have an opinion about this in public because i don't feel that strongly. but a lot of people are having ill informed opinions about it and i don't feel i can offer correct information without also an opinion. so i just have to suffer
#this is about nanowrimo lmao#having been involved with nano for fifteen years i can promise it was always a website/organised thing#and there WERE reasons for the website to exist and the community of the forums was a huge part of it#now they totally fucked that up a few years back but originally it was a massive part of it#especially bc when i joined nano twitter was like... barely a thing?#there were so few ways of finding a writing community at the time#very few wordcount trackers you didn't have to build yourself in excel etc#it had reasons to exist at the beginning. i would argue it has much less reason to exist now#but it wasn't a subsequent 'cashing in' on a concept#anyway.#the reason i don't have strong opinions about the current fuckery beyond an eye roll#is that i already walked away from being invested in nano because there has been So. Much. Fuckery#this is a nail in a coffin I'd already accepted was buried#and i get that people are more likely to care about the ai thing#as like. symbolic of wider societal issues or whatever#vs grooming and harassment and racism and firing all the MLs#bc that affects people in the community much more than people inside it#but. look. if you're gonna expound upon it#consider that nanowrimo started in 1999 and forums were THE way to connect with people online#and the website as it grew in the 00s primarily revolved around the forums#and continued to do so through the 2010s#and that no it wasn't just a social media challenge bc social media didn't exist yet#there IS a reason nanowrimo has a centralised website and organisation#it wouldn't exist without them#bc I can't be arsed to explain this again#*more than people OUTSIDE it

I never wrote about winning the cosplay contest at STSF (lol wild), but here's the prize certificate:
Tumblr media
On the one hand, I (almost didn't enter and) didn't think I was going to win, but on the other hand, they kept talking about a cash prize. And ok, cash prizes have weird legal issues or whatever, but this certificate is bound only to the Creation merch tables, where they sell t-shirts and bags with AI art on them. I asked what I could use it for and the lady said "maybe" I could put it towards a photo op, but it also says no tickets, so that's still up in the air.
That night, Eugene Cordero was hanging out with us at the afterparty (lol hey Rutherford (!!!???) you're super chill) and someone mentioned I'd won the contest/I probably said something about my $500 worthless prize. So he signed it to make it worth "less"
Tumblr media
ANYWAY, all this to say
If I can use it towards a photo op (doubtful), and there is a group Voyager cast shot (cause hello expensive and I am, how you say, not formally employed), I think it'd be hilarious to do Threshold mutant Tom Paris
It seems highly doubtful, but it's a thought that at least keeps me quite amused

i think some of you guys are looking way too fucking deep into the shitty minecraft movie lol
#dax rambles#yes it looks complete fucking garbage but like#wow no way the billion dollar highest-selling game franchise got a terrible movie?#the franchise that has been a cash cow for over a decade?#people going on about how “MINECRAFT IS ABOUT THE UNIVERSE AND LIFE IT IS NOT CRINGE!!!! IT IS HECKIN DEEP AND STUFF!!”#is just so moronic lol#i agree that minecraft -- especially early days -- is very special and has this feeling to it that is weirdly magical and beautiful#but at the end of the day it's a silly fucking block game about creativity (that's a complaint i do agree with for the movie as well)#no minecraft wasn't designed to be this super deep subtly narrative-driven game the end poem doesn't actually mean anything#notch just wanted something weird for the end credits and the guy delievered lol#like obviously people's interpretations of the end poem are great and i love that and feeding into it for the movie would've been kino but#it's so tiring seeing people acting like minecraft is actually this super 2deep4u game when it really is not#again this is a billion-dollar franchise i expected the movie to be slop the moment is was announced i really do not care lmfao#people asking to boycott and shit is fucking hilarious though like it does not even matter at all LOL#like genuinely just who gives a shit it was going to be bad and looks bad if you don't want to see it then don't watch it#originally i was going to see it for a laugh but it just looks so boring not even funny-bad so i'm not bothering lol#not even because i'm “boycotting” i just don't care it looks terrible#saying this as someone who very much grew up with minecraft i've been playing since fucking alpha 1.1.2#and lord knows how much of an impact it made on me for many many reasons LMAO#but yeah no people are reading way too deep into it and getting way too mad over it#it's just kind of ridiculous

I just saw the FNAF movie (I was invited by the cinema to see it for free before you shout at me) and it’s actually surprisingly decent. I don’t know how someone who’s unfamiliar with the games would find it but I actually enjoyed myself. If you’re a fan of the games I would recommend you definitely do NOT download it illegally online *wink wink* because Scott Cawthon is a stinky Republican pro-lifer who DEFINITELY deserves your hard-earned money to spend on funding bigots *nudge*

#I just cannot with all of the negative attitudes since solo era started#and especially the last few weeks#’why this??’ ‘why that??’#’this member this!’ ‘this member that!’#like….sit tf down EVERYONE#nobody knows SHIT about ANYTHING behind the scenes and why it’s being done that way#and sitting here bitching about it and spreading the negativity is soooo toxic#cuz that shit spreads like wildfire#I really can’t stand it#what I know is that the tannies all really love each other#and business decisions are made with their consent and input#again…they’re the ones making those decisions#like everyone saying ‘why didn’t yoongi book stadiums??’#then come to find out it’s cuz he didn’t think he could do stadiums solo#and I think it’s similar for all of them#tannies are humble which leads to them underestimating themselves#ANYWAY I just can’t get on board that the label has some sort of vendetta against any member of bts#it makes no business sense#especially when that’s their huge cash cow#they’re not going to do anything to prevent them returning as ot7#bottom line is we don’t know when they’re all enlisting#but pretty much all of them have said how they want to go to 2025#and have every intention of that being their target date#and yes technically maknae like don’t NEED to enlist until next year#but maybe they want to do it this year to get it over with??#again…WE DON’T KNOW SHIT#okay that’s the end of my rant for now lol#I just really hate the attitudes and blame going around right now#just because it’s not what YOU want them to do#you’re not their manager Cheryl!!

I really hated the whole rich girl storyline, not just because it was both dumb and an Owen storyline, but because there was absolutely no reason to believe that a check made out to a singular person after a date/one night stand was meant to be for a charity, and that a dog bone emoji was enough to convey it was meant for a dog charity. Maybe it’s the autism but that storyline really bugged me

got any good country recs there mate? 👀
my computer crashed when i initially opened this ask im in hysterics
BOY DO I EVER THOUGH!!
mostly this is just music i like, so naturally there's the caveat of it potentially not being to your taste; on top of that some of these may be additionally or technically classified as rock, folk, and/or indie/alternative because music genres are...so nebulous and i do not understand them...and sometimes the results when i search for the genre of certain artists just dont make sense or dont apply to individual songs......
so im being a hefty bit generous in calling some of these country, but they do diverge from those typical Beer Truck God America songs that pop up when searching for country while having a similar or related musical style, and hopefully they'll be a breath of fresh air for you!
i put my personal favourites in bold :] these are not ordered in any particular sort of style categorisation so it's a little messy, but each should link to a youtube version of the song! theres a decent array of different styles and tempos here i think
The Devil Wears a Suit and Tie - Colter Wall
Sleeping on the Blacktop - Colter Wall
Johnny Boy's Bones - Colter Wall
Ballad of a Law-Abiding Sophisticate - Colter Wall (this guy again!)
really any Colter Wall song/cover i'm going to be honest
Raise Hell - Brandi Carlile
The Cremation of Sam McGee - Seth Boyer
In the Pines - Danny Farrant & Paul Rawson
Back from the Edge - Lord Huron
Meet Me in the Woods - Lord Huron
Pretty Lavinia - American Murder Song
Murder! Murder! - American Murder Song
Hurt - Johnny Cash
God's Gonna Cut You Down - Johnny Cash
The Railroad - Goodnight, Texas
Down by the River - The Dirty River Boys
Providence - Poor Man's Poison
Hell's Bells - Cary Ann Hearst
Before He Cheats - Carrie Underwood (this one's popular)
Blown Away - Carrie Underwood
Bad News - Whitey Morgan and the 78's
The Curse of the Fold - Shawn James
The Wicked - Blues Saraceno
Grave Digger - Blues Saraceno
Little Black Train - Woodie Guthrie (if you've seen Over the Garden Wall, you'll recognise this; it has different lyrics from the cover in OTGW though)
hopefully none of the links are broken or directing to the wrong song :'D happy listening, lmk if there are any particular songs you enjoyed! and if none of these work out, thats totally fine, everyone has their tastes of course
#inbox#anonymous#music#so much tag commentary incoming sorry im super scatterbrained AGDHSHGS#honorary mention is the crane wives theyre not country but their music is BANGIN and doesnt tend#to sound horribly out of place on country playlists depending on surrounding songs#my crane wives rec is scarecrow bones. listen to it. NOW#another honorary mention is do your worst by rival sons. more rock than country i think#part of why its so difficult to categorise country is that#a lot of songs that used to be considered rock are called country today#like johnny cash's music. thats all rock music. but by todays standards we'd consider that country#so rock & country go really hand in hand especially when you take into account their cultural origins (black musicians)#genre categorisation is so arbitrary to me and so so so so confusing when you get to overlapping music sounds 😭#so usually if something is called 'folk rock' or smth along the lines of folk i'll consider it country mostly depending on. vibes. tone. et#i grew up HATING country music bcs literally all i heard on country radios in texas was#trucks beer god america and the occasional woman. and it was sooooo annoying i thought all country music was like that#so i was one of those 'i like any music except country' kids#started listening to carrie underwood & later on stumbled into colter wall and boy did it turn my whole attitude around#poor mans poison is partly on here because my 9th grade teacher introduced it to me and i was like WHAT is that sound i love it#and he was like its good music. take it with you.#ANYWAYS thanks for stopping by i hope at least some of these pique your interest!!!!

every conversation i have with my mom ends with me offering to give her money or buy her things and i always walk away like what the fuck just happened
#personal#we’re poor emergencies happen and i care more about that we have a place to live and she’s not sick or unwell#or completely broke but#it is what it is but as i was describing to my friends how this happened again#i started tearing up bc the whole point of me giving her 300 every pay check was to avoid her randomly asking for like. 500 bucks#and giving me no chance to budget#and as reminded by my friends right now she did say i was just an advancedment and she didn’t need me#also that i contribute nothing to the house#it’s just frustrating#like obviously i want to help my mom especially if i have enough money#but i also don’t want every good interaction with her to end with me giving her money or buying her gifts#like it doesn’t happen every convo but enough that my friends are like dude.#and since i have more money she doesn’t need to pay me back i mean i was just gonna use it for dumb shit but again it’s just frustrating#cause i do my budgeting and i’ve paid her and then paid for gifts or took a gift card she didn’t want and gave her cash#and then it’s just randomly more#and again it is what it is but#i just wish my mom at least liked me. like i don’t have a door and she still blames me for christmas#and yells at me when i get a broken foot to go into work anyway#and so on and so on#i’m just. upset i guess#and i jokingly brought up that i guess there is a possibility that#i’m not the ill tempered short fuse rebellious son who doesn’t care for his parents at all#bc. i kinda forget i’m not that#like my friends mom the other day was like you need to lie to you’re mom more she’s awful to you#and i was like :0 and like#thinking about it. i’m really not the loose canon kid#like i was my moms at home nurse and still technically am but she’s mostly fine now#the nurses during one of her surgeries years ago before that even mentioned how well i was caring for her too#and everyone sings my praises about that shit even my mom but i don’t know i just#and i guess none of the compliments to my person or how i help my family didn’t register bc of how everyone at home describes me.

Mattresses, unbeknownst to many, are a lot like cars. Every year new ones roll out, they’re always tweaking and innovating and you’ll never find the same one you loved decades ago when buying a new one.
Where I sold mattresses had a three month return or exchange program for this reason. New beds take a while to break in, and they’re a big expense. Your body is used to the old one. So we made sure people were loving it. If a bed got returned we’d take it back, sanitize and clean it, then sell it again on clearance.
To sell these we always had to disclose what clearance meant to customers, and they had to sign that they knew what they were getting. (FYI, not every company is as… forthright about the used bed situation)
In clearance we had beds that were floor models, we had returns, and more rarely we had old models whose line had been discontinued. These clearance beds were always final sale, so a bed could only be sold twice.
Now, the manager at the store I was working at had realized a vital fact. Clearance beds in the warehouse didn’t sell, especially old models that salespeople weren’t familiar with. And even more especially in odd sizes, like twin extra longs. So he set up a split king on the showroom floor to exhibit clearance beds, pulling all those forgotten twin extra longs out onto the showroom.
Almost all of these were brand new discontinued models. Beds I’d never learned in training were exhumed to be displayed. The manufacturers had moved on to new lines and they’d been left behind. Why would he take such in interest in selling old stock, you might wonder? Because we made double commission on the sales margin of clearance beds, and if we’d had a bed long enough they dropped the cost in the system so it was a fucking cash cow to sell these. Even with huge discounts the commissions were wonderful so it was a win win.
When I got started I was jazzed about this program, I was so on board to sell weird old brand new beds and make a ton of money. I had a wonderful older couple come in, looking for a split king adjustable set. This was a white whale sale.
The current clearance models on the floor were a latex mattress that was brand new despite being of an age to start first grade, and a tempurpedic floor model. The couple laid down and it was like magic. They each loved the bed they’d laid down on. They wanted to buy the whole shebang.
I. Was. Thrilled. I told them about the clearance program and what that meant, and they weren’t bothered in the least. I wrote up the sale then dashed into the back, fizzing with excitement to tell my manager what I’d done.
“You sold the death bed?!” He asked in delight.
I pulled up short, my smile freezing in place. “What…?”
“Didn’t you check the notes?”
I hesitated for a long beat then slowly shook my head. You see, dear reader, all beds had a personal history. Every clearance bed had logs written up by the person who took the return, as well as warehouse crew after sanitizing. It helped us know what to expect when selling them. “Wasn’t it just a floor model? You said it was a floor model…”
He slowly shook his head. I checked the notes.
It turned out, it had been sold as a floor model. The first time. But the company had made an exception and taken it back as a return two months later. Why? Because it’s owner had passed away.
I stared at the computer in horror and my manager shrugged. “They signed the clearance form. Technically it was a floor model.”
“We know for a fact that a man died in that bed!”
“What they don’t know can’t haunt them,” he said philosophically.
The man came back a week later for more sheets, utterly delighted to tell me how well they were sleeping. I clamped my teeth down around the secret of the deathbed, choosing to let them love their new bed without the stigma. Only one person would be haunted by that deathbed, and it was me.

Something wild and sinister about watching a video about the Disney renaissance through the lens of Howard Ashman’s body of work and how one of the things he instilled in the creative team in the animation department was that drawing from life experiences can be super beneficial to the creative process and really helps you connect with the audience, only for the video essay’s author to say at the end how Disney admitted that they were pivoting how Pixar operates to be less based in personal stories and more about sequels in order to boost profit margins.
Idk man…that just feels so sinister on the part of the company
