ok just got off the phone with my friend, she is the mvp called me as soon as she clocked out while she walked to the train.

ok. first things first i asked. we’re they nice? and she said YES she said they were probably the easiest table anyone had she felt bad for everyone else cause she kept seeing all the handlers running back and forth and she was just chilling pretty much. she said they dinner was pre ordered but they didn’t eat much of it cause they probably ate at the pre party event. she was also like “did you know oliver is vegan?” LOL anyways. as the main handler the job is to make sure the vips have everything they need, so for example she would take all their food orders and then send it to the kitchen and then there’s a team of waiters who bring the food, the handler never leaves the table you have to be there in case they need anything.

she said since their team preordered most of the food it made her job so much easier, she basically just stood by their table all night just in case they needed anything. she did order lots of drinks tho she said they drank A LOT 😂😂 but it was mostly for all the people that kept coming over to their table, apparently they were super popular people from other shows kept coming over to talk to them. also lots of the other guests which is mostly just the advertisers, that’s the whole point of the party abc/disney has all these celebs there to mingle with advertisers to get them to sell stuff on their network. and she said everyone wanted to come to the 911 table!!

after the dinner portion the actual party starts and that’s when things get hectic cause the vips always scatter and if you’re their handler you gotta know where they all are at all times. i do not miss this job btw it gave me major anxiety.

during the party they pretty much stuck together which made her job so much easier and she said they all remembered her name when she only told it to them once when she introduced herself. listen she doesn’t know anything about this cast she kept calling them the girl and the asian guy or the two hot guys. which. yall. she said they were all extremely beautiful she said she kept blushing cause ryan (she fell in love with him btw) kept calling her by her name and asking her questions and he kept organizing the plates and glasses on the table to make it easier for the wait staff to pick up.

other than that she said later in the night she kept losing track of them cause again they were so popular 😂😂 mostly aisha, she said she seemed to be friends with EVERYONE and she said, i repeat she knows nothing about rpf she didn’t know what her words would mean, she said ryan and oliver (the two hot guys) hung out together the whole night especially once kenny left, she said he left at like 8 right after dinner, and aisha kept going to talk to other people but ryan and oliver stuck together all night. I said oh im so sure. 🤭

that’s pretty much it, i asked if she could hear their convos and she could but she didn’t really pay attention cause she didn’t recognize any names. she did say that they were all cracking jokes all night and they laughed a lot which idk warms my heart 🥹🥹

btw ryan and oliver did leave together and i think they were going to either go somewhere else with other people or they were having like an after party at the hotel? cause they kept telling people yeah we’ll see you “after” she didn’t really catch where “after” was but when they said bye to aisha ryan said “see ya at the hotel” and oliver told her to not take too long 😂😂 so idk I guess they’re still partying.

In 2007, legendary Hall of Fame baseball player and broadcaster, Bob Uecker, stayed in a Pittsburgh hotel that was home to Anthrocon, the largest furry convention in the world. While broadcasting, the octogenarian sports legend said that "they call themselves furriers, I believe," and "the furrier society were checking themselves in just as the team arrived. A little strange, but....that's their thing."

As Anthrocon is historically held minutes from PNC Park where the Pittsburgh Pirates play, many baseball players have an association with furry. For example, former Major League MVP for the Pittsburgh Pirates, Andrew "Cutch" McCutchen (average: .419) always tweeted about furries when Anthrocon was in town for Pittsburgh home games. On a podcast hosted by the former quarterback of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Cutch was asked point blank if he was a furry, and he said he "had no fursona." McCutchen's fascination with furries is so well known that there is a t-shirt design with Cutch in Pittsburgh with the word "FURRIES" on it.

The strangest part of all is this: McCutchen has notably improved performance during home games held at the same time as Anthrocon, and it was observed that if he continued his performance at the same level he does when Anthrocon is in town, Cutch would be the greatest baseball player in history.

Just like Silver and Sebek, Malleus is also proud to have been a student of Lilia's. Although he doesn't really actively present himself as a gymbro like the other two, he would at occasions display incredible feats of physical prowess. The stark example is him being the MVP of Spelldrive for three years straight, which is both a test of magic and physicality as even dunces like Deuce are competitive in it.

He does mention that he doesn't particularly care about sports though, so in my head, he must have probably questioned if athleticism is even relevant for someone like him. Maybe when he was younger, it went...

So that leads me to the belief that true to the essence of the Thorn Fairy's nobility, which means generally just possessing outstanding qualities, he puts great emphasis in being both magically adept and physically skillful. Because if, indeed, one faces against an opponent with the same level of magical might as him, then it'll all boil down to whoever can win the battle of attrition.

You knew being involved with a fellow student body was wrong. The rules didn’t expressly forbid it, of course, but there was an unspoken understanding - one built into every polite nod between Head Boy and Girl, every disapproving glance McGonagall cast during Prefect meetings - that relationships of any kind were a distraction.

And yet, the hour hand on your wristwatch swept past midnight, and there you were, backed against a tapestry on the fifth floor while James Potter kissed you like he was trying to undo the very notion of propriety.

“We’re inspecting,” James said, between kisses, fighting back the urge to leave marks that he knew you'd hex him for. “For… corridor integrity. Hidden dangers. Unsanctioned tapestry behaviour.”

“You’re a menace.”

He grinned against your skin, hands anchoring at your waist. “But you like me like this, don't you, ____?”

The heat between you was familiar now. It had started innocently enough - a quiet chuckle shared over catching students out of bed during patrols, fingers brushing as you walk next to each other down the halls.

The first time he kissed you had been in the corner of a dark hall in the 6th floor. You’d sworn it wouldn’t happen again. You’d lasted two nights.

Now, it was all muscle memory: the way his hands found your ribs, the curve of your back, the precise tilt of your chin when you looked up at him. You’d memorized each other in shadows and whispers, in stolen ten-minute bursts when the castle slumbered and the ghosts were quiet.

But no matter how many times it happened, it never stopped feeling like a mistake.

Because you were a Prefect. Because he was James Potter - the golden Head Boy and Merlin knows he should be the prime example of responsibility - and so were you.

It wasn’t supposed to be like this.

James Potter had been a reluctant Head Boy. Everyone had been surprised when the position was announced, maybe James most of all.

“I’m not the ‘Head Boy’ type,” he’d protested to McGonagall when they had made it back to Hogwarts, waving it like an indictment. “What about Quidditch? I’m Captain! You really want me doing corridor rounds instead of practice sessions?”

She’d only given him a firm look. “You can handle both, Mr. Potter. It’s about time you learned how to juggle responsibilities.”

He’d grumbled about it, it also didn't help that the Head Girl was on his ass about responsibility yadaa yadaa - he was a Marauder, not a model student.

But now?

“Mate,” Sirius said one evening in the common room, sprawled across the couch with a half-finished essay on love potions abandoned on the floor, “what is with you and these patrols lately?”

James didn’t look up from his parchment. “What d’you mean?”

“You didn't even want to be Head Boy, and lately you've been so excited to do rounds late in the night - who are you and what’ve you done with my best friend?”

Peter looked up from his pack of Bertie Bott’s. “He does seem rather. . . eager.”

Remus, curled in the armchair by the fire, raised an eyebrow. “You’re not usually this organized, Prongs. I’m not complaining, but - come off it, what’s the deal?”

James only shrugged, feigning indifference with a casual flick of his quill.

“Maybe I’m turning over a new leaf.”

Sirius snorted. “Yeah, right. A new leaf in the shape of a girl?”

He didn’t answer.

Didn’t need to.

It was the secrecy that made it burn.

Not love. Not yet. Maybe not ever.

But something.

Something alive. Something urgent. Something that made your hands tremble when his grazed yours in the corridor and you both had to pretend you weren’t counting the seconds until your next patrol.

Sometimes, you thought he looked at you like he couldn’t quite believe you were real. Like you were a dream he hadn’t meant to have but was terrified to wake from.

Other times, he barely looked at all. He laughed at something Sirius said, and you sat across the Great Hall chewing your toast and pretending it didn’t ache to not be seen.

Still, he always showed up for patrol. Always found your hand in the dark, always met your lips under the dark shadow cast over you two.

“Why do we keep doing this?” you whispered one night, your forehead pressed to his as you stood with his head hanging low to meet your eyes.

You wonder how they looked in the morning - if they were a brighter shade than they are in the darkness. Those beautiful darkened brown eyes that you couldn't tell were hazel in the mornings - not like you'd know.

You were never close enough in the morning to check.

James’s breath hitched. His hand slid around your waist, and you had your bottom lip between your teeth at the action.

“Because it feels right, it's wrong - but it feels right, doesn't it?”

You failed to answer as he took your lips in his again.

The first time you almost got caught, it was Filch.

You had been pressed up against the Herbology greenhouse wall, his hands tangled in your robes, when the sound of wheezing and muttered curses drifted too close. You’d barely had time to straighten your tie and jump apart when the caretaker’s lamp flickered around the corner.

James had put a distance between you two right away, tugging at his uniform collar and hoped the caretaker didn't notice how two of his buttons were undone.

If the caretaker noticed, he paid it no mind.

“Evening, Filch!” he called brightly.

Filch grunted. “Shouldn’t be out this late. Thought I saw something suspicious.”

You had to bite the inside of your cheek not to laugh, knowing it would give you two right away -

James gave him a feigned look of innocence “Just doing our rounds, same as every night. Nothing suspicious here, although we were checking - we heard some strange noises.”

Your badge glinted in the moonlight, making the caretaker huff and turn around to leave. You give James a pointed look, knowing full well the only ones making strange noises were you and him.

“Why don’t we stop?” you asked him once, lying on the floor of the Astronomy Tower with your legs tangled and the stars overhead. He was thick enough to bring a blanket of some sort that you both could lie in.

Like this was some picnic under the stars, like you were lovers on a secret rendezvous.

“Do you want to?” he replied, not even pretending to hesitate - the question alerted him in his mind however. He knew this whole arrangement was too good to keep going kept under the wraps.

But he also didn't wanna lsoe whatever it was that you had between you. The unspoken connection that kept you tangled in each other's arms.

He's never once gone out with any girl since you two started this whole thing, leaving behind the days of taking girls to Hogsmeade to have double dates with Sirius Black.

And you weren't one for dates anyways - you were each other's, somehow - without meaning to.

So you didn’t answer.

Because you didn’t want to stop. Not really.

You wanted more.

More of this—whatever this was. This tangle of limbs and midnight laughs and hushed promises you didn’t dare say aloud in the daylight.

“You’re not as good at hiding it as you think, you know,” Remus told him one day after a Prefect meeting, his voice quiet but unyielding - the full moon is fast approaching and so his senses might be heightened again.

James didn’t flinch. Only turning to him as everyone else piled out of the room, including you, who stole a glance at them as you followed after the crowd.

He just shrugged, lips twitching. “Could never get anything past you, Moony.”

Remus blinked. “So it’s real, then?”

James’s eyes softened, gaze slipping past him to the door you’d just walked through, as if he could still see your traces linger.

“Real enough that I wish the nights were longer.”

Remus was quiet for a moment, then leaned forward. He was thinking of how big of an idiot James is, only he'd get entangled into something like this and have the dilemma of turning it real.

“Have you told them that?”

James hesitated, then shook his head. “I don’t know how. We started this as a secret. All adrenaline and shadows and dark corridors. But now. . ."

“You want the light,” Remus said simply, in a matter-of-fact tone.

James nodded. “Yeah. I do. I want more than sneaking around. I want to hold their hand in the library. I want to kiss them good morning, not just goodnight. I want them to know I’m not just here for the thrill.”

Remus made a face at that bold declaration, not used to his friend being so vocal and cheesy. "Gross," before James could let out a complaint, he spoke again - Then tell them. They might just want that, too.”

James wanted to counter but Remus wasn't letting him. "You'll never truly know unless you ask."

The next night, you expected another round of breathless kisses and hushed whispers. Just the usual, as it always had been.

But instead, James met you behind the tapestry near the library and didn’t reach for you. Not right away, you almost questioned him but ultimately decided against it -

His foreign actions scared you. Would this be the end?

He just stood there, shifting slightly, hands in his pockets while he rearranged his sentences in his head.

“I’ve been thinking,” he said, voice softer than usual.

You tilted your head slightly to the side, a smile tugging at your lips. “Dangerous habit.”

He managed a chuckle from your reply. One of the many things he’s grown to love about you, that sharp tongue - in more ways than one. “I don’t want this to be a secret anymore.”

You blinked, once and then twice - and -

“I mean - don’t get me wrong, the sneaking about, the stolen kisses - it’s brilliant. But I want the real thing. I want to walk you to class. I want people to know. I want to say you’re mine and mean it in daylight, not just when the halls are empty.”

You stared at him, heart beginning to hammer in your chest as you felt the widest grin tug at the edge of your lips.

While critics of the series often point to the delinquent behaviors of Shohoku’s players and their rivals as a flaw, this raw and unpolished aspect of the manga doesn’t detract from the story, but I would argue it actually strengthens it. By presenting characters whose struggles extend far beyond the court, Inoue makes Slam Dunk more than a sports manga. It is also a story about redemption, self-discovery, and the undeniable link between personal imperfection and growth.

As the protagonist of Slam Dunk, Hanamichi Sakuragi is the most obvious example of how delinquency shapes the story. Initially, his brash attitude and quick temper drove many of the manga’s early comedic and chaotic moments. But beneath his tough exterior lies a teenager desperate for recognition and validation. He is a self-proclaimed “genius” of basketball, yet he doesn’t even understand the game’s basic rules when he starts. This gap between his confidence and reality reflects his immaturity, rooted in years of rejection and a desperate need for validation. His initial scuffles with Rukawa, for example, are less about genuine rivalry and more about his inability to handle his emotions. But what sets Sakuragi apart is how basketball forces him to channel his delinquent tendencies into something productive. One turning point occurs when he resolves to work on his rebounds after being humiliated in front of the team. Though his stubbornness remains, it transforms into determination, epitomized in his declaration: “I will make 20 rebounds in the next game!” His growth as a player—and as a person—is tied to this process of refining, not erasing, his rebellious spirit.

His evolution from a reckless delinquent to a player who sacrifices everything for his team isn’t only a basketball success story. This emotional baggage nearly derails his basketball career when he returns to the team after a year-long hiatus. His initial fight with Sakuragi leads to one of his most vulnerable moments, where he admits: “I wanted to quit basketball… but I couldn’t let it go.” Basketball becomes Ryota’s way of healing, his means of reconnecting with others and reclaiming the confidence he lost. His journey is a more indirect form of redemption, one that emphasizes how delinquency often stems from pain rather than inherent malice. Then there’s Hisashi Mitsui, whose journey is perhaps the most heartbreaking. His fall from middle school MVP to gang member is rooted in a relatable fear: the fear of being forgotten. Even the rival teams reflect this idea of delinquency as a double-edged sword, with both its destructive side and the humanity behind it. Toyotama’s players, with their trash talking and aggressive attitudes, show what happens when this rebellious energy is left unchecked. Minami’s violent foul on Rukawa during their match is reckless and brutal, and it showed how anger and impulsivity can poison the spirit of competition.

But Toyotama’s delinquency isn’t framed as pure villainy. It stems from their desperation to honor their former coach, who had been fired due to not producing “results”. After revealing this, their aggression on the court feels less like malice and more like a raw, unprocessed response to grief. They’re playing to prove something—not just to their opponents but to themselves. What makes Slam Dunk resonate is how these characters, flawed as they are, feel like people you could know—or even be. Their delinquency isn’t glorified, but rather, it’s contextualized. It’s a response to pain, loss, and insecurity, and basketball becomes the outlet through which they confront these struggles. This mirrors the lives of 1990s NBA players like Allen Iverson or Dennis Rodman, whose turbulent personal lives didn’t overshadow their greatness but instead added layers to their stories.
