The Introverted Sensation Type // Inferior Extraverted Intuition

Many years ago, in the Psychological Club, we had a meeting at which members were asked to describe their type in their own words, instead of just quoting Jung's book on the types. Members were to describe how they experienced their own superior function. I have never forgotten an excellent paper that Mrs. Jung gave. It was only after hearing it that I felt I understood the introverted sensation type. In describing herself, she said that the introverted sensation type was like a highly sensitized photographic plate.

When somebody comes into the room, such a type notices the way the person comes in, the hair, the expression on the face, the clothes, and the way the person walks. All this makes a very precise impression on the introverted sensation type; every detail is absorbed. The impression comes from the object to the subject; it is as though a stone fell into deep water - the impres-I sion falls deeper and deeper and sinks in. Outwardly, the introverted sensation type looks utterly stupid. He just sits and stares, and you do not know what is going on within him. He looks like a piece of wood with no reaction at all - unless he reacts with one of the auxiliary functions, thinking or feeling. But inwardly the impression is being absorbed.

The introverted sensation type, therefore, gives the impression of being very slow, which is not actually the case. It is only that the quick inner reac tions go on underneath, and the outer reaction comes in a delayed way. These are the people, if told a joke in the morning, will probably laugh at midnight. This type is very often misjudged and misunderstood by others because one does not realize what goes on within. If such a type can express his photographic impressions artistically, they can be reproduced either in painting or in writing. I have a strong suspicion that Thomas Mann was such an introverted sensation type. He describes every detail of a scene, and in his descriptions he gives the whole atmosphere of a room or a personality. This is a kind of sensitivity which takes in every smallest shade and detail.

The inferior intuition of this type is similar to that of the extraverted sensation type, for it also has a very weird, eerie, fantastic quality. But it is more concerned with the impersonal, collective outer world. With the builder I mentioned, for example, you can see that he is an extraverted sensation type. He picks up intuitions that concern himself. In his extraverted sensation, he is concerned with the collective outer world - with road building, or the building of big houses. But his intuition is applied to himself; it is highly personal and mixed up with his personal problems. With the introverted sensation type, the movement comes from the object towards him. The novels by Thomas Mann have a very subjective character. But the intuition of this type is concerned with events that go on in the background; he picks up the possibilities and the future of the outer surroundings.

I have seen in an introverted sensation type material which I would call very prophetic - archetypal fantasies which do not mainly represent the problem of the dreamer but those of his time. The assimilation of these phantasies is very difficult because sensation, the dominant function, is a function with which we comprehend the here and now. The negative aspect of sensation is that the type gets stuck in concrete reality. As Jung once noted: for them the future does not exist, future possibilities do not exist, they are in the here and now, and there is an iron curtain before them. They behave in life as though it will always be the same as it is now; they are incapable of conceiving that things might change. The disadvantage of this type is that when these tremendous inner phantasies well up, such a person has great difficulty in assimilating them because of the accuracy and slowness of his conscious function.

If such a type is at all willing to take his intuition seriously, he will be inclined to try to put it down very accurately. But how can you do that? Intuition comes like a flash, and if you try to put it down it has gone! So he does not know how to deal with the problem and goes through agonies, because the only way his inferior function can be assimilated is by loosening the hold of the superior function.

I knew a woman, an introverted sensation type, who for many years had very accurately painted the contents of her unconscious. It took her about three weeks to complete a painting. The paintings were beautiful and worked out in every detail, but, as I heard later, she did not paint the contents of her unconscious as they came; she corrected and improved the colors and refined the details. She would say: "Naturally I improved them aesthetically." Slowly the need to assimilate the inferior function became imperative, and she was told that she should speed up her painting and take the colors exactly as they were, however crude, and just put them on paper quickly. When I translated the contents of her dreams in this way, she got into a panic and said she could not, it was impossible. To have this put to her was like being knocked out, she could not do it, and she continued to paint in her usual way. Again and again she missed the coming up of the unconscious intuition, for she could not put it down as it came.

That is how the fight looks between the superior and inferior function in the introverted sensation type. If you try to force him to assimilate intuition too quickly, he gets symptoms of giddiness or sea-sickness. He feels carried away from the solid ground of reality, and because he is so stuck there, he gets actual symptoms of sea-sickness. I knew one introverted sensation type woman who had to go to bed to do active imagination, otherwise she felt exactly as if she were on a boat.

Because the introverted sensation type's superior function is introverted, his intuition is extraverted and therefore is generally triggered off by outer events. Such a type might, while walking down a street, see a crystal in a shop window, and his intuition might suddenly grasp its symbolic meaning: the whole symbolic meaning of the crystal would flood into his soul. But that would have been triggered off by the outside event, since his inferior intuition is essentially extraverted. Naturally, he has the same bad characteristics as the extraverted sensation type: in both, intuitions are very often of a sinister character, and if not worked upon, therefore, the prophetic contents that break through will be pessimistic and negative.

Negative intuition sometimes does hit the target. It either hits the mark exactly, or it goes wildly astray. In general, when intuition is the main function and one of the other functions - either thinking or feeling - has been developed, the person can judge whether it might be the bull's eye or off in the woods, and therefore he holds back. But inferior intuition is primitive, and the sensation type either surprises you by hitting the bull's eye, which you can only admire, or else he comes up with hunches in which there is no truth - just pure invention!

hi hello there!! i saw that you followed me and i assume it's in regards to the ravn situation.

oneus is one of my ults (albeit hwanwoong has always been my bias), and only a few months before all of this i saw them in person for the first time. i am in absolute shock that all of this has happened - what ravn's been accused with is absolutely, completely terrible and there is no excuse if he has done it. i did read what's happened and the results of this, and there is no doubt that this will have a massive impact on oneus + their relations to the industry - even if it is true or not. hell, even cya, member of oneus's literal brother group, has unfollowed ravn on soundcloud. however, cya is still following leedo

right now i'm just waiting for answers from rbw. hopefully this situation is revealed very soon and we can have some sort of answer as to whether ravn really did commit those horrendous crimes or not.

hello there! honestly everything you've said are almost word for word the points i've been trying to make to other people in the fandom—never got to see oneus live before all of this broke out, although i was considering trying to get a ticket to one of their recent stops here in the US. (Hwanwoong is my ult bias as well, btw, followed by Xion, but i did always tend to lean more towards the rap heavy members in boy groups and R*vn was no exception.) decided against it bc of personal reasons and now there's a bit of a relief that i did? i don't think i would have been able to appreciate and look back on my memories of seeing them if i found out about this almost immediately after, tbh, and i understand why you're in shock.

on the topic of CyA—i might have said this elsewhere (maybe in one of my DMs with another user) but from what i've seen during my time with onewe (who i have been following since before they made the move to RBW and redebuted) he is a very kind individual. he is close with several of the oneus members, and to see him do what he did and take it upon himself to remove all traces of their collaborations (while still, like you said, following Leedo, which proves that his issue is not with oneus but with R*vn specifically) was definitely a catalyst to me realizing that the group is on the edge of a precipice at this point.

someone pointed out to me that the wording in RBW's official statement is the kind you usually get among agencies when they've found something to back up the claims, want to gather additional evidence but don't want to alarm the rest of the public—iirc Dawn and Hyuna's first agency, CUBE, put out a similarly constructed statement when rumors of them dating first started to circulate among netizens, and so did Wonho's agency, although his charges were later proven to be false.

Wangxian is that dynamic: Rant Post

I personally think Wangxian is one of the most complete, compelling and near-perfect dynamics to ever be written. Like, think about it. All of our favourite pairings generally include one T (Thinking-type) and one F (Feeling-type), or both Feeling types as they are easier to relate to.

But then you have Wangxian - an ISTJ and an ENTP. Such... annoying personality types.

You have Lan Wangji, who's going to fight your procrastination for you. The guy who's stability personified and Mr. He Is Indeed Better, and then you have Wei Wuxian, who's going to argue his mouth off than take a hint; a little too aware of just how great he is and constantly onto the search for new angles of discovery.

Generally, these sort of personalities are put into the background while an INFP (or whatever) find love. These are the cliche best friends. But never the main leads.

But look at Wangxian!

Look at them being so smart together, sharing the same values. Look at Lan Wangji showing his anger by frosty, cutting words (just a few) or worse... utter disregard for you. The guy's going to glare at you with such frosty chill or go out of his way to ignore you. You're not going to get to him, and it's going to PISS you off.

Then there's Wei Wuxian and it's like...are you getting to him? Or, is he getting to you?? If you argue with him too much about his alleged failure and arrogance and quirks, he's gonna tap into them, and make you feel unstable. He's going to wield his flaws like a blade at you. You're going to just want to avoid him and the snark that filters in through his sunny disposition.

And... look at Wangxian taking the "scientific way" to sex.

"What am I supposed to do?" / I cannot believe I'm asking Lan Zhan for sex advice.

"Relax." / To the point answers only.

Also in the Extra, when discussing their CNC kink they go all the way into the story of how they're going to scene:

"So I'll do this and you resist and then I'll do this."

Like... perfection??? Like go, find yourself a partner who's equally as weird as you and have your happy ever after with them: accomplished.

Like... how easy is it to communicate ? Without any fears, without any remnant feelings, without guilt - how easily they understand each other.

And not Wei Wuxian showing his love by gifting Lan Wangji a numerous weird things, and constantly talking about exactly what he loves about Lan Wangji. Not Lan Wangji doing every sort of act of service for Wei Wuxian (and Wei Wuxian allowing it), and being calm but not quiet with his words.

"It is as it is" - loving Wei Wuxian is a fact for Lan Wangji, backed up by his actions.

They never go out of their way to think of certain events differently. Perhaps, that's what takes them so much time and 2 life times to get together. Because, hell, it's obvious to us. But you're telling me Lan Wangji wouldn't stand up for anyone who's in the right and framed incorrectly? He totally would. Lan Zhan is just that nice. Similarly, Wei Wuxian is also just that nice.

He took a brand for Mianmian. He couldn't remember her for a minute afterwards. He saved Su She. Twice. He has no idea who Su She is. So, yes. He did a lot of things for Lan Wangji but what is he supposed to be?

I love how their relationship is built upon a pact of no apologies and no thanks. Loving each other isn't a duty, a responsibility or a debt. It is just natural. There's nothing to be repaid. There's only things to discover together.

You don't need to thank me because thanking means you recognize my effort as helping you, but you are not required to - as it is the nature of things. I will help you. You will help me. We will never measure who helps each other more. You don't need to apologize for your actions, because I trust that you will not do wrong unto me. Never by intention.

And, let's talk about how they gravitate towards each other ?? Lan Wangji sitting in Gusu thinking about Wei Wuxian and his lotus seeds and stems theory. Wei Wuxian sitting in Lotus Pier thinking of Lan Wangji. Analyzing every word the other has said, thinking back to all that they have done for each other, lingering not on the pain they have caused each other but the happiness, and you know, that they'll be able to talk about the pain, through the pain, because they are people rooted in the present.

I imagine just how insane it would be for Wei Wuxian, the no golden core until the age of 9 to head disciple to one of the strongest cores to the reason why Yunmeng Jiang win every night hunt event at Discussion Conferences, to lock swords with Lan Wangji and feel, "Ah, this is an equal. This is a new puzzle to be solved. This is a cabbage to be pricked (canon)."

And for Lan Wangji, who's equated insolence and disobedience with poor performance to suddenly come upon someone who appears larger than life, raking up answers and top spots in tests, and duelling as an equal yet never adhering to the rules, finding loopholes and shaking up Lan Wangji's whole dimension.

Another thing I really love is how Lan Wangji isn't, like, his uncle. Or his brother. He isn't his uncle in the ways that he allows himself to break rules when they don't align with the rules he considers superior - his moral calling. His hanguang-jun-ness. He absolutely loves rules; he does; and he loves his stability but he's not afraid to embrace change if it is required.

And, Lan Zhan just isn't his brother. He doesn't like you? Trust, you're gonna know. He thinks you're stupid? It's going to be translated across. He's not going to appease you, or make his presence or his wishes lesser to comfort you. He is his own person (which is so similar to how Wei Wuxian is; like poor boy was punished all the time for being himself, at Lotus Pier by Madam Yu, and yet he never downplayed his talents. He never bowed down.)

And I think it's obvious just how well Lan Wangji knows how worthless words can be if they're not followed with actions. Similarly for Wei Wuxian, he speaks a lot. But he does do what he speak. Protect Jiang Cheng? He will. Fight for Lotus Pier? He will. Protect the Wens? He will absolutely.

Thus, you see, as a couple they will never have to face those sorts of arguments where someone seriously states how they feel about A event but behaves differently when they can do something about it. As a couple they will never have to worry about the other not being themselves. Compromising is one thing - pretense is another. Wei Wuxian compromises and doesn't try to break rules. Understands that he's going to insult Lan Wangji's position by acting out. Lan Wangji compromises and breaks some rules for him. They both compromise and take care of each other's needs and habits to cohabitate together successfully, and at the same time, there's no pretense. No lying. No manipulation. No "I'm fine when I'm not."

Think of them going to night hunts together, with Wei Wuxian's easy brilliance and Lan Wangji's easy dependency. Like that guy, is strong and capable enough to protect Wei Ying. He knows that. Wei Ying knows that. The cultivation world knows that.

Think of how both of them are such healthy adults and loving to children. Lan Wangji isn't a cold dad and Wei Wuxian isn't an irresponsible one. They're both so very capable.

So, my point is - Wangxian is perfect. I will die on this ship.

About MBTI romantic compatibility

In this post I want to talk about my personal thoughts based on what I observe about MBTI romantic compatibility or romantic compatibility in general.

Because remember, MBTI isn't enough when looking for a partner; there can be:

Very different people of the same type

Similar people of very different types

It also depends on what similitarities and differences mean for you.

MBTI: COMPATIBLE, SIMILIAR, DIFFERENT

Think at colors: there are colours which matches armonically to you but maybe you still preferer a "very similar" colour that accompany you or "very different" one that make you natural color stands up

1) COMPATIBLE if you look for an armonical balance between your differences (dichotomies) and similarities (same primary function but inverted and same process thoughts of the other two functions)

E/I + P/J difference or also F/T or N/S depending on what is the primary function (change the other). F/T or N/S lead to apparently more differences but deeply same way to process some thoughts (exactly same middle cognitive functions)

Example: INTJ x ENFP or ENTP

Example: ISFP x ESFJ or ENFJ

2) SIMILIAR: same type or similiar in many things (but not having the same primary function and thinking process can still lead to a not so small difference): you prefer having more similitarities with your partner (e.g. both introverted)

Change just a letter (be conscious that usually the S/N difference alone could still lead to a strong difference)

Example: INTJ x INTJ or ENTJ or INFJ or INTP (or also ISTJ)

ABOUT changing only the last 2 dichotomies: it will lead to a more complex mix between similarities and differences, usually it can be great at times but can also lead to many misunderstandings, for this reason I see more friendships than romantic partners on these.

3) DIFFERENT: very different type or opposite type: you feel safe with a companion that can do the things you can't do.

Example: INTJ x ESFP, ESTP, ESTJ, ISFJ,...

Is it immature?

If all you look for is just a personality type yes, but if you consider many things among which a specifically personality type... no. People choose their partner based on physical appearance, interests, sympathy, familiarity, style of life... and choosing based on the way a person perceive and process reality that affect every part of their daily life is nothing but deep.

I will be honest here on my opinion. We are not talking about getting along with colleagues or in family or something forced, but with romantic relationships. It's so natural to look for a "compatible" friendship, why not with romance? Friends can be many while a romantic partner is hopefully just one and for every day of our life; and every relationship is already difficult by itself without us making it more complicated. We will live and share everything with our partner, make decisions with them, see and talk to them everyday: for this reason I personally don't see why we can't be selective.

So... is MBTI compatibility important? Depends

My personal opinion is that compatibility in general is very important, but not each couple needs MBTI compatibility to work well.

Your perfect match depends on who you are and what you look for in a partner.

-> Some thoughts to consider for wishing to have MBTI compatibility or not:

If your MBTI type is a huge part of who you are and your mental process - choose YES

Passions, interests, character and other things have a huge impact of who or your partner are more than MBTI - choose NO

You are selective and look for deep understanding of who you are to feel completely gotten - choose YES

You get along easily with others and feeling get is not your primary need (or not by a partner), you enjoy and look for other things - choose NO

Your process thoughts deeply, analyse others and observe a lot - choose YES

You are in tune with the ambience more than focusing too deeply on the others, you are more practical and a doer - choose NO

IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS

Your answer can be different of the one of your partner. For example an INFJ chooses her ENFP for MBTI compatibility because she wants to have long conversations and feel mentally connected with him while ENFP chooses her for the way she treats him and prefers spending time doing some hobbies together. So their relationship's will won't match.

If you wish for MBTI compatibility:

I will repeat it another time: MBTI isn't enough! There are always other things that defines us as values, humour, interests, style of life, mentality. So your life partner will be one of the personalities you get along with: not all will work perfectly with you!

MBTI isn't a guarantee! There is no perfect balance and every couple needs work.

If you wish for other kind of compatibilities:

Still be conscious about your personalities! Sometimes feelings cover our differences and you are ok with how are some things now but maybe in the future you or your partner will look for other things.

Be aware! Not thinking about it doesn't remove their type and your similarities/differences, the best is knowing your MBTI types and still be sure it's the best for you! MBTI knowledge in any case could always help in your journey.

Some example of couples I know:

MBTI compatible couples:

ISFP x ENFJ: natural match and they also share the same way to see life - worked

ESFP x ISFJ: compatible but the mental disorders of one destroyed their relationships and also their interests didn't match - didn't work

Not MBTI compatible couples:

INFP x ISTJ: they have the same values of family and both looked for a companion that can do what they couldn't, and feel safe in the differences of the other - worked

INFP x ESTJ: they loved the differences because they made them feel safe, during life they realized they needed to feel understood by the other and suffered for the lack of similitarities - didn't work

FINAL THOUGHTS

Be careful and choose what is best for YOU depending on what you and your partner look for in a relationship. Because at the end knowing what you want in your love life and waiting until you find it is the most important thing! If you want read this last part by thinking at different characteristics other than MBTI.

Different partner: more work to to but they can help you with doing the things you can't do. Always looking for an opposite partner can be sometimes linked to low self esteem, or positively to a strong adaptation ability.

Similiar partner: less work to do but you will have the same limits and face the same problems. Always looking for a very similar partner can be sometimes a sign of immaturity, or positively of a sensitive trait.

I'll say it again:

I talked about MBTI compatibility but remember that MBTI doesn't describe us totally so choose wisely considering that person completely!

And work with your defects and mental disorders, with them every relationship is destined to fail or be unhealthy or toxic.

Maybe you are thinking "love is blind"... to our mind maybe yes, but unconsciously is linked to how we see ourselves deeply.

Feelings may last some time but having a partner hopefully will last a life.

Finding Balance: Mako and Wu’s Myers-Briggs Personality Types

The Meyers-Briggs Type Indicator is a personality typology framework that classifies personalities into 16 different types. The framework is not perfect, and there’s certainly a lot of room for interpretation. But it’s a fun and interesting way of looking at and understanding a person’s personality!

If you aren’t familiar, it essentially breaks down the core parts of personalities into 4 categories, each with 2 opposite traits. Extraversion (E) or Introversion (I), Sensing (S) or Intuition (N), Thinking (T) or Feeling (F), Judging (J) or Perceiving (P).

I believe Mako and Wu are the “Logistician” and the “Campaigner”. These two personality types are complete opposites in every way. Two people with opposite personalities can have an extremely fulfilling relationship, but they can face challenges if they don’t learn how to communicate and understand each other.

(Please keep in mind these are just my interpretations of their characters and thus it’s just opinions. If you think they have different personality types than this, you’re probably right too! I use https://www.16personalities.com/ and https://www.myersbriggs.org/ as my main source of information on personality types and I’ve linked Mako and Wu’s personality types below.)

Mako: The Logistician (ISTJ)

“ISTJ (Logistician) is a personality type with the Introverted, Sensing, Thinking, and Judging traits. These people tend to be reserved yet willful, with a rational outlook on life. They compose their actions carefully and carry them out with methodical purpose.” (from 16 Personalities)

“Quiet, serious, earn success by being thorough and dependable. Practical, matter-of-fact, realistic, and responsible. Decide logically what should be done and work toward it steadily, regardless of distractions. Take pleasure in making everything orderly and organized—their work, their home, their life. Value traditions and loyalty.” (from myersbriggs.org)

Introversion: Introverts prefer to recharge their energy by being on their own and reflecting. Mako seems to retreat into himself when he is overwhelmed and needs to process. Him sleeping under his desk rather than staying at Air Temple Island is a good example of this.

Sensing: Sensing types see the world through tangible experiences. Mako prefers to take in information that is concrete and real. His work as a detective shows this all over, and his frustration with Korra using her Avatar feelings to find Wu is an excellent example of this.

Thinking: Thinking types decide how to act in situations based on logic and objectivity. They are more ‘tough minded’ and use impersonal facts when making choices. Mako choosing to reveal Korra’s plans to Raiko comes to mind as an example of this.

Judging: Judging types relate to the outside world through structure and organization, preferring to have some control by making or being aware of plans-and sticking to them. Mako clearly craves that control and is quick to jump into planning mode, such as when he was trying to help Asami after her company was robbed.

Overall, Mako is  responsible, disciplined, organized, practical, realistic, and direct. He can also be stubborn, by-the-book, judgmental and insensitive. He’s a dependable person with deep loyalty to those he cares for.

Wu: The Campaigner (ENFP) 

“ENFP (Campaigner) is a personality type with the Extraverted, Intuitive, Feeling, and Perceiving traits. These people tend to embrace big ideas and actions that reflect their sense of hope and goodwill toward others. Their vibrant energy can flow in many directions.” (from 16 Personalities)

“Warmly enthusiastic and imaginative. See life as full of possibilities. Make connections between events and information very quickly, and confidently proceed based on the patterns they see. Want a lot of affirmation from others, and readily give appreciation and support. Spontaneous and flexible, often rely on their ability to improvise and their verbal fluency.” (from myersbriggs.org)

Extraversion: Extraverts prefer to receive their energy from outward sources. They recharge their energy through social interactions and process things outwardly by talking them out and tend to act before thinking. Wu certainly craves social interaction and is quick to speak without thinking. His eagerness to socialize (and badly flirt) along with his blurting out absurd ideas are great examples of this.

Intuition: Intuition types tend to see the world in less tangible ways, through hunches and insight. They can see the bigger picture and do a good job of envisioning what could be, rather than what is. Wu’s out-of-the-box thinking to have the badgermoles carve a path to evacuation, in spite of having no real evidence it would work, seems to be a good example of this.

Feeling: Feeling types make choices based on values and empathy. They tend to take relationships and people’s feelings and circumstances into account when deciding things. I think his overall choice to abolish the monarchy is a great example of this, as he seems to genuinely believe that this would be a better choice for the people by giving them freedom.

Perceiving: Perceiving types prefer to experience and explore the world, rather than control it. Wu is more spontaneous and seems comfortable to ‘go with the flow’ rather than strictly adhere to a plan. He was quick to adapt in a number of situations, and seems to come up with his best plans on-the-spot (again. Evacuation. Badgermoles.)

Overall, Wu is enthusiastic, a positive thinker, spontaneous, can improvise, and is surprisingly good at communicating. He’s also disorganized, unfocused, a needs a lot of external validation and affirmation. Wu is warm and outgoing, and has an intense desire to form meaningful connections.

Assertive Vs Turbulent

Another facet of the personality type is A or T, which essentially labels how confident or anxious one is in their personality. I think that Wu may be more turbulent, meaning he feels less confident in himself and overcompensates to try and counterbalance his self doubts. I think Mako is more assertive, meaning he is more confident in his actions and is more even tempered in his actions because he is self-assured. I think over time, Mako’s influence pushes Wu closer to being more assertive.

Opposites Attract

Relationships with completely opposite traits in every way can be both fulfilling and challenging. They recharge their energy differently, they see things differently, they make choices differently and they interact with the world differently. With so many differences, there is the possibility for frustrations and misunderstandings, but there is also the possibility for the two people to complement each other and play to their strengths. 

What makes or breaks an opposite personality relationship is communication, and what has always struck me about Mako and Wu’s progression of their relationship in the show and comic, is their increased ability to talk to one another and understand each other. 

Mako knows exactly how to talk to Wu; during his meltdown in The Coronation, Mako directly appealed to the people-pleaser in Wu when prompting him to reflect on what he’d done for his people to deserve being King. Wu really eats up anything Mako tells him, and even literally says “You always know the right thing to say, Mako”. 

Wu also seems to know how to appeal to Mako’s rational thought processes. I know we were absolutely floored by Wu casually saying “Mako, you know I love you”, but that interaction was actually a disagreement between them-Mako thought they should just shut down the election, while Wu felt they needed to let it play out. Wu patiently explained his thought process to Mako (even though he wrapped it up in affection… Classic people-pleaser) and Mako didn’t argue further; he seemed to accept Wu’s explanation for his choices. 

Essentially what I’m saying is that Mako and Wu really do communicate well, and because of that, I think their opposing personality traits will serve to bring balance to their relationship, rather than conflict. Wu needs social interaction while Mako needs some time in? No problem, Wu is friends with Korra and potentially the rest of the Krew; he can go hang out with them if Mako needs to recharge with a night in reading one of Jinora's books. Mako can bring Wu back to reality when his imagination gets out of hand, while Wu can prompt Mako to see beyond what’s just in front of him. Wu can prompt Mako to take a more subjective approach in his decision making while Mako can pull Wu back from his people-pleasing to help him make more rational choices. Mako can keep Wu on a more organized and structured path, and Wu can get Mako to loosen up with a little fun and spontaneity. 

Balance

In a season titled ‘Balance’, it’s really fascinating that they paired Mako with someone who is his opposite in every way, not just in personality. Wu is affluent, materialistic, somewhat naive, and wears his emotions on his sleeve. Mako is jaded, responsible, grew up in poverty, and struggles to express himself. But when they are together, there is amazing potential for them to bring out the best in each other and achieve a better balance in each of their lives.

Kalau kita memiliki sebuah tim belajar/kerja, hubungan teman, pasangan, dsb yang berbeda preferensi, tentu akan selalu berbeda cara pandang. Satunya cenderung lebih banyak pakai think, satu lagi cenderung pakai feel

Kuncinya adalah saling memahami dan memaafkan satu sama lain. Menurunkan egonya masing-masing. Yaa memang tidak mudah, biasanya manusia dengan preferensi T cenderung tidak mau ambil pusing, yauda bodo amat, eh tapi yang F kepikiran terus :')

Dulu awal menikah, suka sebel sama suami karena gampang bawa perasaan dan selalu ingin diperhatikan. Suami juga kesel karena aku orangnya cuek dan ceplas ceplos. Jangan mudah menjudge orang lain yang 'berbeda' preferensi sifatnya. Apalagi merasa hidupnya sudah paling sempurna, lalu denial dengan kekurangan. Kita cukup perlu mengakui, setiap sisi dari individu pasti punya kekurangan, termasuk diri sendiri

Introverted Irrational Types

The two types just depicted are almost inaccessible to external judgment. Because they are introverted and have in consequence a somewhat meagre capacity or willingness for expression, they offer but a frail handle for a telling criticism. Since their main activity is directed within, nothing is outwardly visible but reserve, secretiveness, lack of sympathy, or uncertainty, and an apparently groundless perplexity. When anything does come to the surface, it usually consists in indirect manifestations of inferior and relatively unconscious functions. Manifestations of such a nature naturally excite a certain environmental prejudice against these types. Accordingly they are mostly underestimated, or at least misunderstood. To the same degree as they fail to understand themselves—because they very largely lack judgment—they are also powerless to understand why they are so constantly undervalued by public opinion. They cannot see that their outward-going expression is, as a matter of fact, also of an inferior character. Their vision is enchanted by the abundance of subjective events. What happens there is so captivating, and of such inexhaustible attraction, that they do not appreciate the fact that their habitual communications to their circle express very, little of that real experience in which they themselves are, as it were, caught up. The fragmentary and, as a rule, quite episodic character of their communications make too great a demand upon the understanding and good will of their circle; furthermore, their mode of expression lacks that flowing warmth to the object which alone can have convincing force. On the contrary, these types show very often a brusque, repelling demeanour towards the outer world, although of this they are quite unaware, and have not the least intention of showing it. We shall form a fairer judgment of such men and grant them a greater indulgence, when we begin to realize how hard it is to translate into intelligible language what is perceived within. Yet this indulgence must not be so liberal as to exempt them altogether from the necessity of such expression. This could be only detrimental for such types. Fate itself prepares for them, perhaps even more than for other men, overwhelming external difficulties, which have a very sobering effect upon the intoxication of the inner vision. But frequently only an intense personal need can wring from them a human expression.

From an extraverted and rationalistic standpoint, such types are indeed the most fruitless of men. But, viewed from a higher standpoint, such men are living evidence of the fact that this rich and varied world with its overflowing and intoxicating life is not purely external, but also exists within. These types are admittedly one sided demonstrations of Nature, but they are an educational experience for the man who refuses to be blinded by the intellectual mode of the day. In their own way, men with such an attitude are educators and promoters of culture. Their life teaches more than their words. From their lives, and not the least from what is just their greatest fault, viz. their incommunicability, we may understand one of the greatest errors of our civilization, that is, the superstitious belief in statement and presentation, the immoderate overprizing of instruction by means of word and method. A child certainly allows himself to be impressed by the grand talk of its parents. But is it really imagined that the child is thereby educated? Actually it is the parents’ lives that educate the child—what they add thereto by word and gesture at best serves only to confuse him. The same holds good for the teacher. But we have such a belief in method that, if only the method be good, the practice of it seems to hallow the teacher. An inferior man is never. a good teacher. But he can conceal his injurious inferiority, which secretly poisons the pupil, behind an excellent method or, an equally brilliant intellectual capacity. Naturally the pupil of riper years desires nothing better than the knowledge of useful methods, because he is already defeated by the general attitude, which believes in the victorious method. He has already learnt that the emptiest head, correctly echoing a method, is the best pupil. His whole environment not only urges but exemplifies the doctrine that all success and happiness are external, and that only the right method is needed to attain the haven of one’s desires. Or is the life of his religious instructor likely to demonstrate that happiness which radiates from the treasure of the inner vision? The irrational introverted types are certainly no instructors of a more complete humanity. They lack reason and the ethics of reason, but their lives teach the other possibility, in which our civilization is so deplorably wanting.

“Jesus Christ,” Sybille hisses, sinking into the folding chair set up on the other side of Wheaty’s desk, haggard and weary from six weeks of nonstop fighting. “Are we really doin’ this shit again?”

He regards her, equally exhausted, and sighs. “It’s for morale, Dep. People gotta remember you’re human too.”

“Why?” she scowls. “Aint’ it more inspirin’ if they think I’m Wonder Woman or some shit?”

“Yeah, well, Wonder Woman has literal super powers,” Wheaty says. The attempt at levity falls flat, as Sybille levels him with a glare. “Look,” he sighs, “I know it seems counterintuitive to you, but reminding the people that you’re a person, just like them, will help inspire them to keep fighting against the Cult. Normal life is almost back in the Valley, you know? We gotta remind them that the fight’s still going.” 

She’s silent for a long moment, before ultimately relenting. “Fine. Ask ya damn questions.”

WHEATY: Name? 

SYBILLE: Sybille Marie La Roux. 

WHEATY: Nickname? 

SYBILLE: Was “Sarge” for a while. Mostly just “Dep” or “Syb” these days.

Imagine meeting Soap in the alps with the evergreens densely stretching down the ridge, the little cabin you were hiding in — nailed to the foot of the mountain. You aimed the gun at him with shaky hands, snow slowly falling all around, catching itself between your eyelashes. Time began to slow as he carefully approached you, one hand extended while the other dropped his weapon onto the ground. From the very beginning, Soap has always been open. He presents himself honestly, painfully optimistic — it scares you. He scares you. So you kept your aim steady, resisting, suspecting. Yet, your foot was bleeding, torn open by the thorn bush when you escaped from Makarov's men to dash into the forest.

‘Easy now. We won’t hurt you.’

Soap had sat next to you the entire helicopter ride back, trying to lighten the mood even after rescuing you from a violent hostage situation. He talked and talked and talked :

' Are you okay ?'

' What's your name ?'

'What do you want me to call you?'

' How are you holding up?'

' It’s fair jeelit ootside, aye ?'

Yet, you were glad he did not leave even after receiving nothing but silence in return. Because when Soap saw your hand: unmoving and limp against the clean cloth, he had asked permission to dab the blood away from your arms and cheek (— blood that belonged to the men he killed to rescue you.) It was difficult to believe, for each movement was gentle, reassuring, and nothing like what your captors had put you through. When Soap finally stood up to switch seats with another soldier, you had involuntarily reached out with your right hand — staring at him while pathetically gripping the strap of his vest.

It was the first time he grinned so widely.

Reserved, practical, and quiet: you were the perfect engineer to spearhead Makarov’s nuclear science. It never mattered to you that the team remains unconvinced by your change of consciousness; it would be stupid for them not to. Trying your best to conceal how unwelcomed and abandoned you felt, the only one who seemed to notice was Soap.

 Shattered at the horrifying fact that Makarov had weaponised your research, you blamed yourself for being so oblivious. You never understood how Soap was so willing to help you pick up the pieces.

 Cautious yet eager to get to know you: he followed you around, even going as far as to defend you when someone suggested throwing you back into the hands of terrorists. You tried everything to push him away: frowning, avoiding, and even telling Price to keep him away because he distracts your work, and if he keeps showing up unannounced, you will never make enough progress to catch Makarov.

 Yet, within the narrow walls of the base, you always run into him — ( and only an idiot will fail to notice that each unwanted meeting was planned by the soldier.) 

It was blinding how spontaneous, energetic, and bold he carried himself. Even if it was like looking directly at the sun, you find yourself missing his presence, his laughter. 

So when he placed a hand against your shoulder to greet you after a month-long recon mission, unable to pull away, you let yourself soak in the warmth of his touch; hoping Soap doesn't notice just how much you missed him.

On the nights when your thoughts run astray and your plans crumble under the tragically unforeseeable pattern of life, you find yourself outside his door. A fist hovering above the wooden surface. The moment you turn to leave the door swings open.

‘ I can’t sleep.’

‘ Me neither.’

The first night, he insisted that you take the bed.

‘ the chair will do lass, trust me.’

But when his back started hurting, you shot him an ‘ i told you so’, pulling the blanket upwards and scooting to the left. With your backs against each other, the rise and fall of his chest became a rhythm to sleep to. None of you spoke about how some mornings, you’ll wake up with his arm around your waist, chin tucked nicely above your head. 

You started letting yourself in his room, patiently waiting in the dark if he had yet to return from the field. He did the same when you were locked up in Price's office, drowning in papers and guiltily wishing you were in his bed. 

He never does anything suggestive, never crosses the line inappropriately, and makes you uncomfortable. But you can sense something was off: from how he tenses up, freezes, and goes completely still when your knees brush against his inner thigh. It wasn't hard to notice his breath hitching when your fingers had experimentally stretched across his midriff, nails scraping the skin: hot and taut.

You propped yourself up with an elbow, staring down into his eyes. The wind outside howled, rattling the windows during an otherwise silent night. He squirmed; you noticed how Soap gets uncomfortable when it’s too quiet. And this close, with his nose inches from yours he let out a small laugh.

‘ Not to ruin the mood, but you have to talk to me here. If all you want is just someone to warm the bed, then I’m startin’ to feel a little used here, hen.’ 

Your brows furrowed, and for the first time in a long time, you felt stupid.

‘ I didn’t mean to make you feel that way.’

He reached out to place a hand under your chin, his thumb gently caressing your cheek before guiding your hand flat against his bare chest, ‘Knowing how clever you are lass, I’m sure you’ve figured it out by now.’

You never had to read his expressions; lips parted and cheeks flushed, you dove down to kiss Soap, squealing in surprise when he returned it enthusiastically — “ Bloody hell, you don’t know how much I’ve fucking wanted this. Wanted you.”

Pulling away, you huffed, feigning annoyance even with your hands on both sides of his face.

Soap is generous with his kisses, even more so with sex. Always eager to touch and feel you, he never shies away from putting your needs first: always trying to please. Even with his bulge — hard and heavy between your legs, Soap won’t fold until he can feel you dripping over his fingers. 

The man never waits for you to enter the room before crashing his lips into you. Impatient and jittery, he uses teeth and tongue to excitedly welcome you back — as if you did not start the day next to each other in bed. Once, he had you pressed up against the hallway, both knees over his shoulders. 

In communicating, Soap has always been more honest and direct, while you tend to be insensitive and highly critical. Always wanting to make up for your callousness, he brushes it off, knowing that most of the time, you were just frustrated and did not know how to let off some steam. Which is why Soap was always so encouraging with his words.

'  That's it bonny, use your words. Tell me what you want.'

' You're so good and needy for me, hen. Atta girl, that's it.'

' Fucking hell — you're something else, know that?'

You love how he squeezes your hips as you ride him. You love admiring his hickeys across your chest. You love waking up to his bear hugs and scrubbing his hair in the shower: playfully scolding him to focus and close his eyes or else the liquid gets in his eyes. You love him, and because of this, a small part of you aches. Because no matter how many times Soap said it, you still could not find the courage to say it back.

Yet every time he looks away as you cry because you're still embarrassed to do it in front of him or hugs you from behind to offer silent support, even if it physically pains him to let the air turn still, you pray he knows.

Outside, the air was thick with frost, and the scent of pinewood and conifer bark was almost overwhelming. With the noise coming from the waterfall and river, Soap explained how this provided good cover. You wrapped the puffer tighter around yourself, fingers intertwined with his. 

‘ Why did the snowman look into the bag of carrots ?’

 ‘Why?’

‘He was picking his nose.’

You bit the inside of your cheek.

‘ That’s a good one.’

‘ You think so ?’

A gust of wind swept through the snow to signal that the helicopters were here. You squeezed Soap’s hand.

‘ I love you. I want you to know that.'

In the distance, Ghost signaled that they only had a few minutes left before takeoff. His eyes softened while yours started to water. Soap tucked a stray strand of hair behind your ear, leaning forward to talk over the noise.

‘ I know. I love you too.'

A few of you have seen me mention this special interest of mine, but the rest of you are new. Hello, and welcome. I’d like to talk about our Round Three* contenders in light of personality typology, specifically the MBTI theory based on Jungian typology.

(*Why 3 instead of 4? Because I’d planned to post this yesterday and already had those characters listed.)

Yes, I’m aware this is classified as a pseudoscience. Yes, I put a questionable amount of stock in it. Now you see why I’d get along with Drift so well. 😛 This post is for fun, so please don’t take it as seriously as I am unless you’re genuinely curious. The main goal of this post is to present some interesting observations related to the correlation between who are most desirable fictional husbands and their MBTI types. That’s it. A TL;DR is at the end for the Blurrs among you. Anyway, here we go:

While I’m sure most of you have at least heard of MBTI, you should know that it’s not just the four-letter dichotomies: I vs. E, T vs. F, etc. I won’t bore you with the details; I just want you to be aware that mainstream culture has watered down the theory to a four-letter code when there’s far more complexity beneath the surface. Cognitive functions, function axes, etc.

Without further ado, here are the contenders from Round Three (the versions I know best) and what I think each one’s most likely type is:

Whirl - ESTP (IDW)

Misfire - ENTP (IDW)

Ratchet - ISTJ (IDW, TFP, TFA)

Bold text means I’m certain of my conclusion.

“What does all of it mean though?”

Well, it tells me that the fandom really loves their xNTPs and xSTJs. You may have no idea what that means on a detailed level, and that’s fine. The short version is that people either love down-to-earth guys who are dependable and know how to get stuff done or the funny guys who have a nerdy, creative, or rebellious streak. This is obvious just from looking at the results and tags, but it’s interesting to me that the overall trends can also be seen through the lens of MBTI.

Now, for the fun part: I’m expecting the semifinal contenders to be Cyclonus, Knockout, Soundwave, and Jazz. Their respective types are ISTJ, ESTP, ISTJ, and ESFP (or ENFP). Once again, opposing temperaments. (i.e. ISxJ vs. ESxP)

Furthermore, the projected finalists are Cyclonus and Soundwave—both of whom are ISTJs. The conclusion is that, despite the appeal of the xNxP guys, ISTJ characters are more likely than any other type to be seen as good husband material, which lines up perfectly with the general stereotypes associated with ISTJs.

TL;DR - The majority of the fandom agrees that ISTJ characters are peak (stereotypical) husband material, and a deeper look at the type would reveal that they are absolutely correct.
