been a while! here’s some stuff i’ve tested.

Arcana Craves’ Pumpkins Crave Samhain Fires: Warm pumpkin spiced with sweet cinnamon and nutmeg, ancient incense, hilltop fires, dry kindling, roasted cardamom pods, and a whorl of Samhain smoke

this smells simultaneously like other pumpkin spiced fall scents i’ve tried but also unlike any of them. the pumpkin is dry thanks to the incense and firey notes, and the spice is not classic pie spice so it doesn’t veer too PSL. it got it as a free sample for being one of the first 200 orders from a recent craves sale, and at first i thought i wouldn’t want a FS once it’s released (if it’s released...?) but now i’m not sure. i’ll have to try it again.

Sorcellerie Apothecary’s A Witch’s Valentine: Raspberry puree and Moroccan rose absolute swirl into fluffy marshmallow and luxurious suede. Sweet, smooth and addictive. 

this is very smooth, from both the slightly powdery marshmallow and suede. it genuinely smells plush, somehow! the raspberry and the rose don’t show up too much, but i think are lending a pink sweetness to it. this is a LOVELY scent that i think i’ll need to hold on to until next spring because i don’t think i can accurately judge it now, when all i want to wear is earthy pumpkin scents

honestly though, i think sorcellerie is hitting that “even though this scent is not for me, it’s VERY well blended and i can tell there’s a lot of care and artistry put into it” spot for me, and no other house has done so before

Death and Floral’s The Peach Queen: Delicate blend of rosy golden peaches, skin musk, and white amber. 

this is VERY sweet and very linear. the peach could go dried peach or even peach candy on me, but i think the amber is saving it. however, i don’t think this is my type of scent. it’s a very summer scent though so i’ll hold on to it until next summer.

Death and Floral’s Vampire Market: Freshly steamed rice, juicy blood orange, open-air night market spices

i was very excited for this one, because i love the smell of rice but rarely find a rice perfume i like. this one i like! it reminds me of a haus of gloi perfume (mango sticky rice?) but less... simple. the spices really elevate this scent. the blood orange is subtle too, but adds some bright freshness to it, keeping the rice note from being too cloying.

awesome, now i have two d&f perfumes i want to full size: this and dark honey patchoulli. now i just need one more for the three rollerball deal. err... maybe two more, since my birthday is in a month, and they have a birthday freebie deal... time to bust out all of my death and floral samples and try them again

No but actually I've been really thinking about it and Mihawk just doesn't do shit by halves does he? he's so obsessive.

He doesn't just like swords, his is practically his soul made physical. Yoru is so coded in his dna that they literally had to make a replica for his clone.

he isn't just into swordsmanship he literally became the world's best and strongest swordsman

He doesn't just like to duel he's overdone it so much that no one can hold his interest anymore

He didn't just kill marines he was the literal marine hunter.

He doesn't just wait for Zoro at the top he collects every single bounty poster obsessively tracking his rise

He doesn't just let the kids live with him he adopts them, and teaches them how to be stronger. Doesn't let Perona go until he knowns that he can no longer properly guarantee her safety.

He can't just have a garden he has to go full on farmer strawhat and all.

He doesn't just like Shanks he wants to consume him whole he let's the memory of their duel haunt him and even 12 years later he can't fully forgive them. This might be the single most important relationship in his life.

There isn't a moderate bone in his body. He's either making decisions just because or letting them consume him whole.

I bet it's all the Catholicism.

"fireball this, banishment that—" do you think wizards have to call their moms for help making potions bc theirs never work quite like hers. do you think they sit there struggling to write down coherent recipes while their moms dictate based entirely on vibes and made up units of measurement like "a pinch" and "some." do you think they bicker w their moms over the proper order to add ingredients, and how no they're not going too slow, and what the hell do you MEAN it'll be done in '20-ish' minutes. do you think that when they fall in battle and need to be healed they wake up to the taste of home lingering in their mouths.

The satisfaction that Lestat feels when he sees his family enjoying what he has provided is the same satisfaction that I, the eldest daughter, feel when I can provide something. The need to help, to feed, to care, to keep them safe.

Dropping the new Interview with the Vampire trailer on Easter Sunday feels amazingly on brand for Anne Rice somehow

Not justifying Armand, but you don't get through that amount of physical, sexual, emotional abuse, brainwashing, isolation etc to the point of amnesia and dissociation since you're a human child until you're a centuries old vampire (and vampirism amplifies their traumas and emotions) without accidentally reprogramming your brain in a really messed-up way. Specially when you're stuck in a teenage brain forever. This is not someone that lived a safe and privileged life, not even a remotely decent one, and decided to be evil. In many ways Armand forgot or didn't even get to learn what is meant to be human and have a healthy lifestyle and relationships with people. Obviously, it would take him a long time to catch up with his humanity and even develop a sense of identity (one of his many issues too).
