for the 'bored fanfic writer' ask game
25, 27, 29
Thanks for sending these questions! :) (Link to the ask game)
29) Share a bit from a fic you’ll never post OR from a scene that was cut from an already posted fic.
Found this paragraph floating in isolation at the bottom of the doc for a random Sloanshir idea that never really got going. But this random paragraph definitely slaps:
He rolled over and stared at the armchair by the porthole. Empty, but for the pall cast on it by a memory. It was funny how many years of pleasant memories—how many books from Garak he’d read while curled up there, how many lovers in his lap—had been overshadowed by a single interaction. But getting rid of the chair, or even moving it elsewhere, would have meant giving Sloan the power to destroy any part of his life simply by touching it.
25) Have you ever upset yourself with your own writing?
Haha yeah... T_T Usually I'm fine if I know the fic is gonna work out okay (or if I can at least picture a happier potential post-fic future), but if I know that the ending of the fic or projected future is also a big bummer then I run a very high risk of upsetting myself so much that I don't finish the fic lollll.
So, I don't actually upset myself at all while writing horrible creepy sloanshir hurt/no comfort or whatever, because even if the comfort's not in the scope of the fic, I so strongly believe in Garashir ending up together in any given scenario that I just extrapolate in my mind that it'll be fine eventually. XD
The only real problem comes in when I attempt to write Garashir bad endings (for the ship or for either person involved). Like... I REALLY wanted to finish writing my wip about the events of "The Quickening" making Julian slowly go full mad scientist once he's back on the station, but writing it made me too sad because it was important to the concept that it needed to have a devastatingly tragic ending. T_T
27) Is there a fic you were nervous to post/share? Why?
Literally every single fic I've ever written. XD But that's not a helpful answer lol.
I always feel extra nervous posting rarepair fics. With Garashir, there are TONS of canon interactions to model their behavior after, and I've also read soooo much fic about them, which means I have a very good understanding of their dynamic at various points in the timeline of canon, and I know what characterization choices work for me and what doesn't. With Siskarak, there are not that many eps that show the two of them interacting so there's more extrapolation involved in figuring out their dynamic and how to translate that into a sexual relationship, and in terms of fic I have written a solid chunk of what's even out there so I usually put tons of pressure on myself to make sure it's good. And not only good, but like, meshes well with canon and actually follows from what we know about the characters, because I want people to understand how I got from point A to point B.
In addition to that, the longer the fic (or the longer I've spent on the fic), the more nervous I feel when I post. More words, more potential to write something unclear or OOC. XD More time spent, more critical I am of it by the time I post it, because I feel like it should be better than it is given the amount of effort spent. In all honesty drabbles (100 word fics) or other very short ficlets (anything <1000 words) don't make me all that nervous to post anymore, purely due to the time spent writing being so low, which is why I've been posting so many short fics lately lmaooo. If I can bang something out all at once and post without thinking, that's ideal, because then I agonize over it waaaay less beforehand and I don't feel bad if it doesn't get many readers. XD
Posting explicit fics also always makes me a lil nervous, due to the potential embarrassment of what if I've gotten something so wrong that it takes the reader out of the steaminess of the moment.
All that said, my "Second Skin" Siskarak fic, you're a criminal as long as you're mine, recently made me very nervous to post, because it's rarepair smut and it's the second longest thing I've written all year, haha. (Everyone PLEASE go tell me I did a good job, I worked so hard on it.)

The ask I got about my ADHD Eda headcanon analysis got deleted, but I'm here to share it anyways.
Okay so. After Them's the Break Kid came out a lot of people started headcanoning Eda having ADHD and I actually REALLY like and agree with that headcanon. And not because
"Omg she got distracted by fire!!! 🤪"
But because of how we seen her when it comes to school. Now most fans assumed Eda hates studying and learning. Which is fair, since in I was a Teenage Abomination she made it clear she hates school.
HOWEVER, then you remember she literally made a hidden tunnel that can be used to listen to the different classes. Because remember, she WANTED to learn different types of magic.
A lot of her problems with school aren't because it involves learning, it's the school SYSTEM she has problem with.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And in the scene where Luz was teaching Eda and Lilith how to use glyphs, she was using a traditional teaching system with desks and everything. Lilith liked it but Eda did not.
Tumblr media
This also led fans to believe that Lilith was just smarter and did better at studying.
But then in the opening of Them's the Break Kid we see the both of them studying. Lilith is using flashcards and assumes Eda is not paying attention because she's playing with her ball.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But it turns out Eda not only knows all the material but knows more than Lilith.
To ME this reads as Eda being a hands on learner, (and possibly even a form of stimming) she learns through action and movement and hates having to sit still to learn like how you're supposed to do in school. And when she's able to learn this way she's actually very smart.
That could also be the reason she acts out so much in school, especially if she already knows a lot of the material being taught.
In fact, this is actually kinda a parallel to Raine. With Raine they were introduced as being smart, and then in Them's the Breaks Kid we learn they are also very powerful with magic but are underestimated because they are a bard.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Meanwhile Eda was introduced as being the most powerful witch on the Boiling Isles. And THEN in Them's the Break Kid we learn she is ALSO very smart.
Which is also meant to be a surprise in universe by how Lilith reacted. She didn't expect Eda to be that knowledge on the subject, especially more that HER.
AND she gets distracted by fire. In conclusion, this girl is mentally ill but we already knew that.

Do you think that Maiko were in a relationship* before Zuko was banished? Or atleast were aware of their feelings? The getting together after S2 seems to be approached very casually in a way that a new relationship wouldn't be
* relationship here meaning a silly middle school one where they hold hands and cute stuff like that
OH YES I DEFINITELY THINK SO !!
I actually think their relationship would have been kind of similar to how it is shown in s3, being casual but very supportive and loving too (not without some disagreements and silly arguments though of course) but more awkward and childish. I also think they would have been less guarded and closed off with each other, being younger and it being before Zuko’s banishment and all. I think that’s part of why Zuko is often trying to get Mai to open up and express herself more. He remembers when they trusted each other and would confide in each other a lot as children and wanted that security back. This isn’t to say I think he was unhappy with their relationship in s3 or that Mai or, Zuko for that matter, was ever super open with their feelings. I think Mai is naturally a very closed off person and so is Zuko to an extent. What I mean is I think they would probably be the type to complain about things together in a very dramatic pre-teen and/or early teen way. Very emo/goth and dramatic like “Life is a prison. There is a black void inside me. The world is a dark and miserable place. Wanna write poetry and hold hands about it?”
I think they also seem like the type to play harmless pranks on people but specifically more the type that irritate or confuse people and not the like “bucket of water above the door way” type. I feel like they would do shit like make the guards think there was a ghost in the palace or move Mai’s parents’ belongings to weird places in the house and watch them get annoyed and confused about it. Both of them having an interest in blades is something I always thought would have been something they would share with each other. I can see them both practicing their skills together. There’s probably a tree in the palace garden with lots of long slashes in it from Zuko’s dual swords and deep indentations from Mai’s throwing knives and maybe even their names carved in it (twice because Azula stole Zuko’s knife and scratched it out once out of jealousy).
That’s all I have right now, I could probably spend hours coming up with cute and silly little scenarios of the two of them if I tried. Thank you for the ask I love having an excuse to talk about these two.

For the ask game, how about, Naomi
Sure, I adore her!!!
Favorite thing about them: She's funny and witty and empathetic and resourceful and kind! I love her personality.
Least favorite thing about them: I mean, I'm not the greatest fan of the whole sleeping with her brother thing lmao. Still, I wish we got to know more about them, like, what's their deal? Because so far it just seems like this type of bsd dark humor I don't really vibe with. It's fairly easy to ignore for me though, so I don't really dwell on it too much ahah.
Favorite line: I reread all her lines and I this is the nicest one I could find where she isn't like. Quoting Dazai
Tumblr media
brOTP: Naomi and Kyouka!!! NAOMI AND FUKUZAWA. I've recently elaborated on this here, in my mind Naomi is Fukuzawa's right hand woman lol. And rightfully so, she's so competent and clever!!
OTP: Naomi and Gin... 👀👀👀
nOTP: Nothing, whatever.
Random headcanon: Naomi and Fukuzawa play Go together during breaks.
Unpopular opinion: Idk? She should be back in the manga soon. Also, I feel like people underestimate how witty she is.
Song i associate with them: ............ If I had to think of one, The Snow White Princess by Noboru↑-P, but it's kind of an unfortunate association...

Any advice for writting longform stories like NWWD?
@honoikazuchis
thanks for this ask!
thats a pretty open ended question and my answer will inherently be relatively specific to me and the way i write, but i'm happy to share my advice!
I will link a few other posts where i answered some other writing asks:
worldbuilding [x] editing/exposition [x] writer's block/POV [x] plotting vs pantsing [x] how long does it take me to write stuff [x] my writing process [x] writing spicy scenes [x]
otherwise, see below for me rambling way too long about writing.
disclaimer: this is just my opinion and how i do things, obviously there's a lot of variety and nuance for everyone's writing process.
firstly, is that personally, i'm inclined to writing longform stories so thats a bit of a built in strength of mine. generally speaking my story ideas come with lots of lore (see above for my love of worldbuilding) and i like relationships that are deeper/longer, with slow burn being a favorite of mine (why basically all my short stories have the two people involved having met prior to the story starting). that being said, technically the main character in 'Nothing's Wrong with Dale' doesnt meet demon!Dale until the flashback of chapter 2 and why is part of why that story is so long/has a built in arranged marriage premise. Of my two potential long form stories i'm going to do next: one they already know each other (and are basically already in love just being pining idiots about it) or two the story takes place over several months/high stress situations and does not end with marriage etc. But thats more of a concern if you're writing romance.
in general, my advice for longform stories is to already have a relatively complete, high level view of the story when you start. some people can just improvise the entire story as they go--I cannot. i think its very helpful to know where ur story is going to end, more crucially when it is long and you'll be taking a while to get there. by this i primarily mean the setup for the story, then general ending, and vaguely what sort of metaphorical journey they take to get there. you do not need to know every scene and detail in the middle--and plot points/characters can and will evolve as you write and think more on everything--but having the broad brushstrokes figured out asap is critical, in my opinion.
I also, as a side note, don't set out with a story length in mind. i can generally get a good handle on how long a story will be by the idea and outline, but i dont try to make it long. if anything, i did try to challenge myself to write shorter stories, like my novellas, when i started this blog/posting original writing here. that was not only because i do tend to get very complicated/long original ideas, but also because i think it was important to me to actually finish some original work, which i had never done before.
shorter stories tend to have more straightforward plots. not that you can't boil down longer stories to simpler summaries, but generally longer story ideas have more stops along the way so to speak that come to me when i'm developing the idea because i want to cover more with the story. the main character in dale having had childhood illness, dale raised by his grandparents, there being tournament stuff and assassins stuff and uncomfortable parties and most importantly MC figuring out dale was a demon immediately and dale not knowing the MC knew that were all things i came up with (loosely) very soon after i started working on it.
which leads into my next piece of advice: write everything you brainstorm down - you will forget and you will remember there's something u've forgotten and it will annoy the hell out of you. write your notes, write your what ifs, write down possible character names, write down cool ideas for scenes--heck write some of the scenes up then, evn if its for chapter 24 of 35. dont save what ur most excited for as like a carrot on a stick, i find that it doesnt help and that having part of my story that i love existing already is a much better motivator to write the rest
i'm also a big outliner and planner. i think some people think what that means is that u should b able to write a plan once for a story and then never change or deviate from it--but no! change the plan as you go; scrap things that dont work out and add new ideas when they come to you. however, i do think having something down that covers the whole story, lets you get a good idea of the shape of the story, and reminds you of your end goal, are all incredibly helpful. i also keep multiple worldbuilding notes docs; character and location lists; picture inspiration; etc to support the longform idea
i think u also hav to hav confidence/delusion that you will in fact finished. i hav started multiple longform original writing ideas in the past. none of them are done except dale. and part of it was not taking some of my own advice up top, but i think i also just wasnt as committed? lik it'd get lost in worldbuilding, or writing other projects, or life happening (which is all absolutely fine) but dale was the first longform idea where i like, really believed i could write it all and where i was dedicated to putting in the time i'd need to finish it. i knew i would need to take breaks and it would take more than a year (which i did and it did) but i still believed i'd get to where i am now, with a finished draft which i think was really key.
also, practice, i've been writing for years and year; i've been reading for even longer; and i've been writing and posting fanfic for years as well. some of my longer fanfics were such good practice for how to plot a long story without having to generate all the lore myself and having guardrails on for the story/characters in general. aside from dale, my next five pieces of longest writing are all fanfic.
lastly, find at least one person you can talk to about your story. i really think that helped me stay excited and motivated about my longform story in particular. i of course like talking about shorter stories too, but i dont think i felt as compelled to keep talking about them during the process of writing them as i did for my longform stories (even my longer fanfics i talked with other ppl in the big bang about or other writers on discord). and i dont just mean posting the rough drafts as u go like i did, but friends, irl or online, that either are also writers or are just interested in what story you want to make. i think it helps make it more real to you, it gives you ways to talk through issues that come up, its a way to get excited because they're excited, and it makes someone besides you ask how everythings going. the longer stories ideas i had but never got finished are also ones i primarily kept to myself, because i dont think i'd realized how helpful it could be to share them and also because i was still sure that in order to justify telling someone or evn for someone to care, it would hav to already be written, but it doesnt! and in retrospect, i wish i had because maybe those stories would exist--or maybe i'll dig up those notes and talk to someone about them and then find myself back to writing about them (rip to Aftermath, that corrupted external hard drive did u dirty and killed my motivation).
i think getting to understand and figure out your own process, to really look at yourself and see what works and what doesnt (as honestly as you can) is extremely helpful. u'll also figure stuff out along the way--dont hesitate to try to new strategies or drop one that are really not working for you. its all a learning process. be nice to yourself! give yourself the grace to make mistakes (or tell a friend so they can bully you into to cutting urself some damn slack when u can't stick to a weekly upload schedule u made up for urself).
whatever longform story you've got in ur head is one worth sharing and seeing through to completion--and then inflicting on everyone else lol OUR problem now ;)

If you're still doing the ask game, here's mine!
🏜️
☁️
🐝
🎨
🏜️ - What's your favourite type of comment to receive on your work?
Honestly, I love any and all comments I get for my works! Just hearing someone's thoughts/reactions to what I've written never fails to make my day.
But I suppose one of my favorite types are ones that like to theorize about what's happened/will happen in the story. It's fun to see what they think certain details mean, and when they guess correctly, it gets me excited to write more so I can do a full reveal sooner.
☁️ - What made you choose your username?
Okay, this is a bit of an intersting story.
So, if you've looked at my AO3 account, you'll notice there's a My Hero Academia fic that I started (and kind of abandoned) a while ago.
There’s a Pro Hero I created for that AU, and her name was Moon Lark. She was one of my favorite characters, and when I was creating my AO3 account initially, it was to focus on that fic.
I also had no idea what I was going to do for my username because I am notoriously bad at creating usernames and passwords for myself. So I decided to do something related to her (keeping Lark and using Night instead of Moon) and just added Lady in front of it (which I thought made it sound pretty, haha).
I might go back to that fic eventually (because I have to revamp A LOT with it), but I like that my name is a small nod to what inspired me to initially start writing fanfiction!
🐝 - Tag your biggest supporter(s) and say one nice thing about them
@thatringboy - I’ve always loved the way you tell your stories! Your ability to explore characters and themes is so good, and I hope you know how much of an inspiration you are to me and other writers (especially within the KnY role-swap community)!
@rubylarkspur22 - All of your art is amazing! Every time you post something new for one of your KnY AUs, I’m blown away by how good they are, especially when they add to the lore you’ve created for each story. I think it’s awesome how you’re able to draw so many different versions of Nezuko for your AUs!
@zardx - Your world building and research never fail to blow my mind! Everything you’ve shared with me about your ideas for your AU always leaves me wanting to learn more (I also appreciate you letting me ramble about my ideas and helping me fill in blanks lol)! I’ve really loved all of our conversations and getting to share ideas with each other!
There's definitely a lot more people that have meant the world to me with the ways they have continued to support me. So thank you so much for your help and continued support!
🎨 - Link your favourite piece of fanart and explain why you like it
This is definitely a biased choice, but this fanart piece for my fic will always one of my favorites! Thank you, @swingstep (whose art you guys should definitely check out)!
It was the first piece of fanart for CFLDF I'd ever received, and it made me so excited to see the impact my story was having! I absolutely loved it, especially since it was of the ending of Chapter 10 and such a bittersweet moment between Nezuko and Zenitsu.

@lunaryasha , The Deity of Creation.
As the Deity of Creation, they are drawn to fresh water with which they perform their breathtaking magic, forming water that surrounds them into anything they can imagine. Although born Aesir, they do not live inside the walls of Asgard, but instead, choose the luscious ponds and rivers of Midgard.
They take the role of the Patreon of new souls, helping them find their way to the mortal realms.
They had to leave their home as the danger of Fimbulwinter approached and threatened to leave them powerless, finding shelter in the swamps of Vanaheim where they await the fall of Aesir as Ragnarok takes its toll.
•••
Thank you @lunaryasha for the request! It was such a cool challenge designing a character with very little information! Hope you like them! :)

Would anyone actually be interested in making/joining a gc or a discord server?
I've been seeing some posts about wanting to talk to mutuals and other bloggers, myself included but we're all nervous to actually have one lol. I'm willing to take on the initiative, planning keep it casual and such. But i dont know if this is something anyone is actually wanting.

Zelda stuff
🗡️
👍
🗡️ Favorite version of Link? (Linked Universe?) i love skord link always he is just so silly and expressive but in a way that just Sells you on this guy and his growth into an actual real hero, and never straying from just trying to rescue his bestest friend in da whole world :] whenever link is silly and happy in any other game that is Him still expressing himself i like to think. special mention to oot/mm link and the horrors however
also i dont/havent read linked universe but from my very limited knowledge of it ummmmm. twilight i think. LOL
👍 Favorite Zelda Headcanons? every link is trans (non-negotiable) but much like the player is meant to reflect on link, he is trans in the specific way the player is. hope this helps
im not sure if this is a popular hc ?? probably. but im also fond of link/the hero's spirit and accuring arm injuries and/or losing one of their eyes. its very... finn adventure time-esque, but also feels very relevant to heroism and the physical toils of the journey. stuff like that if that makes sense

👨 - What is your muse’s relationship like with their father? Is it good, bad, or complicated? 👩 - What is your muse’s relationship like with their mother? Is it good, bad, or complicated?
Tumblr media
Jiwoon lit up at the thought of someone asking about his parents.
"우리아빠 엄마? I gave them a good and comfortable life! I encouraged them to retire, but they said it wouldn't feel right to stop working; that the family restaurant made them happy and I brought them plenty of business already. Either way, they're very proud of me as their son and that I'm successfully doing something that I love too. They know how hard I worked and were always worried about me... but they said we were very strong and resilient people. No matter where we were, they were supporting me and happy that I carried part of our home with me while still performing knife tricks, for the world now with my own passion for music, instead of only in a restaurant to tourists. I owe my most unique instruments and performances to them."
Left to ponder, he thought of where he was now and how little he actually got to see them. Everything had a price and becoming legendary held a steep one; claiming time from friends, family, and normality. Still, he wouldn't change anything if given the chance; he grew out of needing those commodities of life so long ago, and now? Well, he was legendary.
"If you want to know individually though... My dad was a warm-hearted and talentedly creative man. With music, he met my mom, but he gave up his dreams of pursuing a musical path to become a hard-working man and support his family. Some people say we got lucky when the IMF crisis happened, but really my parents were just smart enough to make it work, both of them running a business and planning well. His military experience let him know what foreigners were like and in turn, I learned a lot from him and how to entertain people who already see a lot of action. When I went to a concert with him, I understood what people felt when they saw me; something new and amazing; I wanted to do that too, and he was happy to share a love of music and supported me. He's a wise man with kind eyes and the best 군만두 (pan-fried dumplings)."
"My mom taught me how to be strong, clever, and unique since she was a smart career woman who got laid off when she was pregnant. Unable to find a job in the workforce, she and my dad decided to run the restaurant together. My dad supported the family and she focused on our business' reputation. It was thanks to her that we figured out how to include my skills in the restaurant to set us apart. When I had an interest, she would make sure I practiced safely and even bought me my first beginner knives. She told me that no matter what other people think, never let them stop me from being special; also to think before I speak, understand people by listening to them, and to not let other people tell me my worth. She's loving, protective, and spirited. I think the special things she made were the best... 미역국 (Seaweed soup) for birthdays and 시루떡 (Red-bean rice cake) for offerings."
Yeah. He made it however he could; reclaiming what made him unique. Trickster will certainly never be forgotten again. He hopes they're still proud and can manage to retire peacefully.

🌺 - Does your muse have a favorite flower? Why do they like it?
"I don't really pay attention to flowers much- but maybe roses. They're very versatile, come in all sorts of colors, and are usually passionate and classy; the first flower everyone thinks of."
He gives a chuckle and holds up a familiar potted plant.
"Though it only has flowers sometimes, I really like Joji's. It looks like a star."
