FIC IDEA VAULT #16: THE COMEBACK OF RADIO

I wouldn't be me if I didn't write this down, so we have another fic this time of the Hazbin Hotel variety, let's go:

What if, after Alastor gets what he wants, he regrets it? Betraying everyone to gain unmeasurable power didn't actually feel good, because somehow, he cared against his wishes. So, Alastor makes one final deal, this time with Death, to bring down Roo* and return everything the way it should be. The catch? He must make sure that he gains true forgiveness from those he hurt the most, including Charlie. He must do this as a human, in a town on earth where everyone is now at, AND he can't kill or eat anyone, or the deal is off and he will continue to be haunted by his past mistakes. There's of course various catches, like people randomly knowing their past lives in the afterlife, and that will have their own goals in mind, who will also not be held to the same standards as Alastor. If he dies, the deal is also off.

As Alastor wakes, he realizes other things will be in his path, like his mother being alive and with him and thus, in danger should the wrong person figure out his mission or the constraints of his new deal. But the plans of Roo* will not be brought down by her minion and she will be prepared to tempt him and destroy the lives of her enemies once and for all.

Basically, Alastor is forced to be nice and he hates every minute of it, but he learns along the way to trust others and work around his problems without the use of force or threats. He is also roped into helping others and so many shennanigans wil ensue. I might make it the start of radioapple, BUT it wouldn't be the main focus of the fic. I want the focus to be on his relationships with the main cast, his mom and friendships he will build slowly through the fic. The possible relationship he builds with Lucifer would come later, after he has gotten a little better at expressing his care for his friends.

*Roo is another character of Vivzbop that may stand for Root of all evil. The speculation is that she will be the final boss and may also be the one that Alastor has a deal with. I lean towards Eve a lot more, like a mix of the two, like Eve becoming Roo.

A Fallout 4 Soulmate AU

Fic Summary:

Hancock never thought he would find his soulmate. Once a common occurrence, soulmates turned into a bit of a rarity after the bombs dropped. It was to be expected when there was an influx of people getting shot in the face on a daily basis. So when Hancock discovered that he had a soulmate he was ecstatic; all of the people in the Commonwealth, and he was one of the lucky few.

Too bad his soulmate didn't want anything to do with him.

When Nora thought for sure she was going to die too, the pain stopped – and then there was nothing. Nothing but the emptiness. Nothing but the grief. Half of her soul was suddenly gone forever. She was dropped in the middle of the ocean, drifting among the waves with no land in sight. Then just as suddenly she had been cast adrift, she found land. The hole was filled the moment it had been created. As she gripped Nate’s vault suit and begged him to open his eyes, Nora found herself battling with the horrifying realization that she had another soulmate; that some stranger had taken Nate's place.

After her night at the drive-in, Nora continued her wandering. There was no goal, no destination. To be honest, Nora enjoyed the purposelessness of it. After graduating from high school, she had wanted to see the world. It had been a grand plan; shoving what necessities she could into a backpack and hiking through some foreign country. That’s all it had been, though; a plan, an idea, a dream. Instead of traveling she went to college, and got into law school. She met Nate, got married, and had a kid. And she was happy. Her life had been nearly perfect. There had been days where she completely forgot about her desires to see the world and its various cultures, and then there were other days, when she was up to her elbows in paperwork, where traveling had been all she could think about. She had responsibilities to tend to, though. Dropping everything to go travel was unrealistic, and irresponsible.

Trekking through the Commonwealth was her chance, she supposed. It was a different world, a different culture. What necessities she could find were in a backpack, and she was traveling, so to speak. She wasn’t traveling with her group of tight-knit friends, but Dog was good company. He was a loyal mutt. He always stayed in sight, traveling with her even when he wasn’t right at her side. It was a nice day, quiet, and as the hours ticked on, Nora was absolutely delighted to acknowledge that the day had been wildly uneventful.

At least, it had been. Right until it wasn’t. 

The first distant roll of thunder had her hair standing on end, and when she turned her attention to the skies she cringed. The entirety of the sky behind her was covered in a blanket of thick, dark clouds. There wasn’t any particular place to take shelter, and with that lack of protection, all Nora could do was pick up her pace, and keep moving. As her anxiety surfaced, as her pace picked up to a near jog, Dog trotted on beside her, completely carefree. She wondered how he had made it through the storms in the past, she wondered who his previous owners were, or if he had just been a very lucky stray. Mulling over Dog’s origins helped keep her thoughts occupied so she wasn’t focused on the impending shit-storm that was coming her way, but it didn’t stop it from getting closer.

No matter how fast she moved, the storm managed to gain ground. The thunder exploded, taunting her as she shifted to a steady run. Her Geiger counter clicked once, twice. The ability to be aware of her surroundings fled her as she ran.  She no longer kept her gun at the ready, she no longer took sweeping gazes along her surroundings. She could have run right by a whole group of raiders, and she would have had no idea. She was focused on finding shelter. 

So when a shrill whistle reached her ears, she tripped on her own feet and reached for her gun. She pivoted, searching for the source – there was an small public pool in the not-so-far-off distance, still filled with water. There was a pool house, ancient but still standing. It had no doors, and from afar Nora could see that the interior was well lit. There were a handful of people milling about, ignoring the incoming storm, but there was a lone person standing a little ways off to the side, their arms in the air, waving to catch her attention. Nora stilled, even as her Geiger counter began to click, she stood and weighed her options. Another whistle, somehow louder than the last… and then Dog was trotting towards the man, carefree and bushy tailed.

With no other options on the table, Nora decided to trust Dog’s judgment. She ran after him, her legs feeling achy and heavy, and her lungs burning. The air around her tasted rancid, it smelled like burnt ozone– the world lit in a shock of green. 

Either the people occupying the pool house would kill her, or the radstorm would. Dog didn’t seem put off by the person, though. In fact, the dog ran right to the man’s side, and sat – waiting for Nora to arrive. As Nora drew closer, she recognized the man as another ghoul. It was a little surreal seeing one in person. Though the damage that had been done to the man was similar to John’s – no nose, ears seemingly fused to the side of his head, strange eyes, warped skin – he also managed to look so incredibly different. The ruined skin was a different color, eyes shaped a bit differently. There were basic things, too, bone structure and body type. He was just another person. Another human. 

By the time she reached them, she was coated in a thin layer of rain, her Pip-Boy continuously clicking at a nice, even pace. When the thunder exploded and the lightning flashed the clicking increased then dropped. It sounded like a metronome.

“You aren’t gonna find a place before this storm lets loose!” The man called over the sound of rain and increasing wind. “You got the supplies you need?”

“I-I don’t—“

That was all that was needed to be said. He gestured for her to follow him, and he left no room for argument as he turned and breached the fence line. He walked around the outer rim of the pool towards the pool house. Dog, the traitor, trotted right along with him. Nora followed, a little hesitant and still out of breath. She followed the ghoul into the pool house, accepting her incoming fate, whatever it may be. The room was filled with a number of dressed beds, all aligned in neat rows. The man went to a mounted wall cabinet on the far side of the room, and then he turned to her, a few pills in his hand.

“Rad-X,” he rasped, holding a collection of four pills out to her expectantly, he even showed her the bottle. His voice carried a similar gravel to John’s, but his cracked a little more on certain syllables. She wondered how radiation affected vocal chords. 

“Thank you,” she murmured, plucking the pills from his hand. Her fingertips brushed his palm, it was rough in texture, feeling like callused skin. A quick once over showed the careful construction of muscle groups, the textures of the fibers that helped his hand move. She was almost positive that she could see the muscle contract.

“You got water?”

“Yeah,” she said on a nod, already slinging her pack from her shoulder. As she struggled to find her water bottle, the man walked past her and towards another section of the building. It was a walled off area, with a men’s restroom sign hanging above the entry way.

“I’ll getcha a towel so you can dry up.”

Nora watched him go. “Thank you, sir.”

The second he was on the other side of the room, Nora focused and reached, “John?”

Though she was willing to accept whatever help she could, she wasn’t exactly keen on the idea of accepting miscellaneous pills from a total stranger. They were nondescript, with no etchings or symbols. They were a plain white, circular in shape.

”What’s goin’ on-“ a crash of thunder made his voice falter, and he swore loudly. ”Fuck, are you in another radstorm?”

Nora focused on the pills in her hand, keeping her voice low, “What is this?”

There wasn’t even a second of contemplation before he answered, “Rad-X. Helps ya withstand rads a bit better. Take two to start.”

Nora sighed softly, relieved, and then popped two pills in her mouth and pocketed the others. She took a couple hearty swigs of water. When she heard footsteps approaching she lifted her head, seeing the same ghoul that had flagged her down. There was a threadbare towel in his hand that looked delightfully dry.

“Here.” He passed her the towel.

”Who the fuck is that?”

“Thank you, sir,” she said again earnestly, drying off her face before toweling at her hair. “Really, I don’t know what I would have done if you hadn’t flagged me down.”

“It was no problem,” the man rasped, smiling gently. He had a kind face. “You didn’t look like you would have made it for much longer.”

”Nora, if you wanted to hang out with a ghoul, all ya had t’do was say so…”

She tried to ignore John, but it was getting increasingly difficult as his jealousy seeped over the bond towards her. She blocked out his emotions before she could seem ungrateful to her host. “I don’t think I would have, to be honest. I’ll pay you for the Rad-X.“

“Don’t worry about it,” he said on a shrug. “Don’t have much of a need for it here. Rad storms don’t do much to us ghouls. It looks like it’s gonna be hanging around for a bit. You’re more than welcome to stay for the evening.”

Nora smiled. She’d thanked him several times, but she did again, “Thank you. Really. I’m Nora…” she held out her hand, and the ghoul seemed surprised but accepted it. His grasp was gentle, and kind, and she could feel all of the muscles in his hand bunching and tightening. Would John’s hands be this rough, too? 

“Wiseman.”

“It’s nice to meet you.”

Over the bond, John seemed to growl irritably. Nora sighed, pushing her sense of ease towards him but it was useless. Wiseman released her hand, turning and gesturing to another ghoul that had just stepped into the building. It was another male, wearing an old flannel shirt.

“Jones, this is Nora. She’s gonna stay for the evening. Mind setting her up with a bed?”

The ghoul smiled by way of greeting. Nora didn’t miss the quick once over the man gave her, but it wasn’t intimidating. It wasn’t salacious. It was curiosity, and not much else. “Of course.”

Hancock didn’t seem to share her opinion, he felt like he was on the verge of throwing a fit. Nora sighed internally. She was going to have a talk with him later once she had some alone time. Her soulmate seemed to have some jealousy issues.

What is my absolute favorite of their scenes and why do I love it so much?

Oh I don't know...there are many good classic scenes. For the sake of spicing it up I'll talk about a moment that I don't often see people discuss and that is actually from an episode that I otherwise don't really like, namely: the scene in 5x19 where Kara is on the ground with kryptonite coursing through her veins and then Lena's anti-kryptonite device flies in and attaches itself to her suit and before it's even started working, Kara smiles and laughs. Just...the fact that Kara is in (if we are to believe her assessment in S3) incredible pain and that doesn't even matter to her because Lena's on her side again. I think that's a really sweet moment and it captures a lot of what I wish S5 & S6 had been about for them lol.

8. Am I most interested in fics about them that focus on fluff, angst, humor, smut or actual plot?

Angst, humor, & plot are all good with me. Fluff & smut tend to bore me.

9. What is my ideal endgame for them?

Hm, I could envision several good endgames for them (none of which include Lena being a witch or Kara becoming editor-in-chief or revealing herself to the world lol). I think ideally Kara would eventually become known as Superwoman and maybe would become more of an independent freelance journalist, while Lena would run the Lena Luthor Foundation which presumably funds Good Things. Lena would keep kryptonite on hand in a secret vault in case of emergency and Kara would be cool with it, and Lena would also design all kinds of suits & accessories for Kara (sorry Brainy but your Supergirl suit design was not very good). I like the idea of Kara having a longer, more stately cape especially as she grows older and more confident.

I do think they'd both want to get married, probably in a Kryptonian or Kryptonian-inspired ceremony. I think they should get a cat or a dog or both. I like lena-in-a-red-dress's fic where Lena adopts Dex-Starr the Red Lantern cat so let's say their cat is Dex-Starr. And their dog can be Rex from sango-blep's comics. Rex is cute.

I like the idea of them having kids, though I also think they'd be OK without them. If they did have kids I think the kids would be Luthors, not Danverses or Luthor-Danverses. They would also probably be created via birthing matrix or a similar technology invented by Lena because I can't imagine either Kara or Lena wanting to get pregnant lol. I like Leo Alexander as a name for a boy. I'm less sure about names for girls (maybe Sasha? Elizabeth? Linda?) but I don't like Lori, I know that's popular because of an old comic where Lena has a daughter named Lori but I am not a fan.

16. What are three of my fic recs for this ship? And (in the event that I’ve written something for them) one of my fics involving them that I’m most proud of?

Catfishy Business by whythinktoomuch is an iconic and deeply funny fic.

lena dies on a wednesday by karalovesallthegirls is a GREAT time loop fic that ingeniously puts us in the shoes of someone who doesn't know they're in a time loop. I think you've said you've read it? Still, it bears re-reading.

There are so many other great fics I could rec but I'll rec one that is a little bit lesser-known, since I've already named two very well-known fics. Which is and darling (is there a cure for this hunger?) by m_oliverfan, aka There Are Consequences To Sending Nyxly To Eternal Torment Land, Actually.

I've only finished one fic for SC so far which is laid in thine enemy's grave? - in truth, i dig it, which I believe you've also read. ^_^

20. How and when should they have gotten together?

I think in a better S5 where they started talking to each other sooner -- end of 5x13 would've been a good time -- and had some time to work through some stuff, I could see an end-of-S5 confession or kiss working. In terms of the actual show, which was never very good at writing romance, I think a Korrasami-style 'they end up together or are implied to end up together as part of Kara finding herself' would've charmed me.

37,793 words and counting, now my word count on this blog however... I dread thinking about it.

5. Do you respond to comments?

... I am absolutely atrocious at replying on AO3, while on tumblr I have been slightly better at keeping up with feedback. I greatly appreciate every comment however.

It has to be "Didyme's Demise". The short story details how she has faith in her dear brother, and does not even see her murder come.

7. What is the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

... I do not understand this concept. Though I guess "I Gave You My Heart" has a bittersweet ending.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

I do not believe I have received direct hatred towards anything I have ever posted or written.

9. Do you write smut?

Yes, though I have crossed more into the... emotional/romantic sphere than the hardcore smut genre.

10. Craziest crossover?

... No crossovers so far.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

I have experienced people pilfering my edits and graphics, but never any of my written work. That is something I am thankful for.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

No, but I am not against the practice as long as credit is given.

13. Have you co-written a fic before?

Never! Though I really wish to do a collaboration at some point. Though, a little thing I am finishing up has a lot of influence from a dear friend; with one of their own OC's making an appearance. A blending of verses if you may.

14. All time favorite ship?

I have never been a huge shipper within fandom spaces, nor do I have a one true pairing (do we still use OTP?) I will throw down over. Most of the time I find myself shipping characters with comfort, happiness and mental stability these days. Instead of one ship I will give a little list of ships I have read about the last decade and a half, exposing some of my previous and current fandoms...

15. What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you will

There is a work hidden in my vault that was begun while I was friends with someone. Now, this friendship has since turned sour, and because of that I do not know if it will see the light of day. It is Twilight related but it is centred around The Romanians.

16. What are your writing strengths?

The most common compliment I receive is "Beautiful", and seeing as though beauty is in the eye of the beholder I am inclined to say my strength is different for different people.

Personally I believe I have quite a good vocabulary, as well as being good with my metaphors.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Fast paced action rarely works well with my borderline purple prose, which is why some of my works sometimes feel very different in my opinion. The New Moon rewrite has a lot more action instead of introspection and feelings, that is a challenge for me.

18. Thoughts on dialogue in another language

If you do decide to add dialogue in another language; confer with someone who speaks said language if you are able to. Or, at the very least, do a lot of research so it does not sound off or out of character. The few times I have used Greek I have asked people who are native speakers for help!

Personally I think it can add a nice touch as long as it is not overdone.

19. First fandom you wrote for

Twilight! While I have been a part of fandom spaces ever since I was 12/13 this is the first time I created any sort of content for others to enjoy.

20. Favorite fic you've written

Of the ones that have been finished and published it has to be "He Loves Power, A Terrible Love". That piece will forever have my heart, and whenever i feel discouraged about my writing I return to it. It reminds me that my writing is in fact not half bad. Though I do believe a fanfic in the works called "As Above, So Below" will knock it down from its throne.

That one will have people showing up outside my house with pitchforks.

This could change at any moment but right now it's my latest 'Tim Drake thinks he's a colleague and not a family member' Batfam fic!! I'm kind of irritated with myself for not finishing this to post in the Thanksgiving/Christmas/New Year season that it's set but I am not going to wait another year to post it then.

On Thanksgiving, Bruce institutes a ‘no devices at the table’ rule. Thanksgiving was always a big deal at the Wayne’s. Turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, three types of pie. The works. Bruce invited Tim again this year but it was obviously a courtesy invite. Alfred, the only member of the Wayne family with an innate sense of tact, had probably assigned Bruce to do it. With Damian and Jason settling, and re-settling, into the family, they don’t need Tim to fill out the table anymore.

Is there a story idea in your mental vault that you’ve never been brave enough to try writing? Is this the year? Can you tell us about it?

Hmm, I can't really think of anything. I have dozens of ideas in my mental vault but they're all just waiting their turn on time and inspiration, not bravery.

Do you have that one fanfic that you wrote a ton for, ages ago, but never posted? Will this be the year, come hell or high water, that it WILL get finished and posted?

This took me on a fun trip down memory lane in my abandoned WIPs folder! I have old fics with a good amount of words in X-Men, MCU, and Teen Wolf (?!) but the one that really haunts me is my Les Mis Olympics AU. It has so many fun lines 😭 Alas, I'm not going to finish it this year or any other probably. I do have a couple Star Wars fics that I wrote some scenes for and then put to the wayside though and I WILL finish one of those (maybe)!

I did start a wip a while ago about pregnant sex-- i know, but I stopped cus I dont know how to make it not sound weird like I really wanted to touch upon pregnancy hormones a d what it was like being pregnant with Halo compared to what it was like being pregnant with the twins and I started doing a bunch of research about it and what's normal, abnormal, and like the nuances about arousal during pregnancy even from the husbands side of the ordeal and how emotions can really be on high during the second to third trimester

There also another I started kinda on the whim a little bit ago that's like angst/hurt comfort which is more about the complications during the pregnancy w the elder twins and Rio reacting to everything that's happened so much so fast after the birth because the pregnancy w the twins was miserable and not the best experience cus it was a high risk pregnancy mostly in part due to being pregnant with twins especially fraternal twins and it being your first ever pregnancy on top of them being twins, so the birth was not an easy or fast process, I also did a bunch of research on the complications that can happen during birth and the circumstances if one was to die during birth, you definitely do live but I needed to know the extent of how much pain I can put you through, I also searched a bunch of medical terms and recovery processes for after a complicated birth and recovering from surgery, it's pretty much Rio working through his emotions cus yeah he just became a dad but you were also unconscious for a scary amount of hours and did a lot if the post birth bonding without you there next to him, it's a little darker than stuff I usually write but one of the reasons I love my little au so much is I be doing some goddamn research on shit I will never experience(I don't wanna be pregnant ever in my life)

And then there's "Two pairs of twins" I think I started it idk I don't think I did, but it's about the dynamics between the oldests and the youngests, the elder twins and the younger twins, Adephagia and Gulliver watching the toddler Dylan and Eliana pretty much like damn I can't believe we're 16 apart and making a joke about neutering their dad because they cannot fathom the idea of their parents ever having sex but also, I touched on this in Prince and Princess but cus they're getting older they're more distant than they once were, they're still close but they're now burdened with more responsibility and stress because they're the oldest and one of them would one day succeed their father on the throne but because of you and your magic of dear lady vane until one of their manifest ancient magic it's not clear who exactly would be taking the throne. Talking care of their baby sisters is kinda like how they bond, you know? they're just regular siblings and not heirs to a throne, also the girls are really cute, they fight over who looks more like who cus Dylan and Eliana are also fraternal twins💀

Theres also another idea in my head that simply just have not written down but it's been in my noggin since I posted Prince and Princess and it like the other side of that like it takes place on the same day but kinda from Halos perspective like it goes through Halos day while the elder twins are getting fired for their first adult sized royal finery and like it kinda just introduced Halos little crush on Thoma, nothing comes of it cus Thoma is obviously way older and known her since she was born but it's just innocent little schoolgirl crush, you know how it is shes 14 and Thoma is nice to her kinda like how young girls would have a crush on their teacher, Halo helps him out with some of his tasks and stuff, just like how in prince and princess there was a Theo and Atlas cameo, there would be a Genesis w the younger twins cameo, I think that would be cute♡

wow i had to pull this one from the VAULTS. i don’t actually have any current wip drafts (just a ton of loosely planned ideas) so this one is from like 2022. it’s an owl house mythology au loosely based off of hades (the video game) in which the golden guard gets reincarnated over and over and tries to escape. i like the concept but have no idea what the plot would be so on the shelf it will sit until i figure that out

12- a trope you’re really into right now

hmmmm not really a fanfic trope but ive been thinking a lot about crouching moron, hidden badass. specifically the variant where a character is deliberately hiding how badass they actually are by acting like a moron, at least partially. invoking this trope is like, how to make that character my favorite character 101.

as for fanfic tropes. uh. a favorite of mine that never gets old is childhood friends to enemies to friends to lovers. so many of the ships that have been giving me brain worms throughout the last 5 or so years fall in this category. *cough* sashanne *cough* narumitsu *cough COUGH* catradora. it’s the layer of being previously childhood friends and having that past pure and unconditional friendship. and then having that all torn apart and then rebuilt again. S-tier drama.

99% of my writing is done in my bed bc im paranoid that if i wrote at my desk my parents would be able to see because they tend to randomly barge into my room. when im at college i tend to write a lot less but at least i can do it at my desk lmao

19- the most interesting topic you’ve researched for a fic

for ‘the girl, the cat, and the black hole calamity’ i went down quite the rabbit hole of archaic and modern physics concepts like entropy, black holes & atomic decay. it was very fun and absolutely none of it ended up in the fic because i was like. why would 13yo anne care about this nerdy physics stuff lmao

i also have researched a lot (A LOT) of archetypal literature, historical figures, jungian psych, & various myths (specifically irish myth) which is on paper for the persona 5 swap au fic that im never gonna write buuuuut mostly was out of my own curiosity. when i was first learning how to write i read up on archetypical literature and campbell and stuff quite a bit so it was very fun to revisit. also this swap au lives in my brain rent-free. it would theoretically be a longfic covering the events of the entire game but i can’t do that. but im gonna have to do SOMETHING with it considering the sheer amount of effort ive put into the planning and reworking all of the main cast’s personas to the point where im pretty sure ive put more thought into my picks than the original p5 writers lmao

cannot be bothered to find the exact year but i know i was 13 so probably 2016 or 2017. yknow what’s funny is i spent most of middle and high school thinking that when i got to college i’d stop writing fic and doing fandom stuff in general and yet here i am, going into my senior year of college, still on the same fandom clownery that i was 8 years ago. lmao.

As of right now, I don't think so! I did participate in a fest back in 2021, I think, but writing to a deadline and writing to someone else's prompt doesn't really suit me, so I don't really see any fandom exchanges or fic challenges in my future, no. You never know, though!

8: Is there a story idea in your mental vault that you’ve never been brave enough to try writing? Is this the year? Can you tell us about it?

Well, I told Morgan about my Stray Kids circus AU, so I'll tell you about a SEVENTEEN AU I've been sitting on since 2018 (this is true of most of my SEVENTEEN WIPs, unfortunately).

It was going to feature them all as magical orphans coming together and forming a little found family. Jihoon made potions. It was a project of massive proportions, and at some point the story just stopped making sense, and so I had to put it down for a while.

I have significantly more practice at telling a cohesive story now, 6 years later (which is crazy, time flies!), so I hope that I'll finally be able to bring this story to life this year!

8. Is there a story idea in your mental vault that you’ve never been brave enough to try writing? Is this the year? Can you tell us about it?

Ummm. Hmmm. Not really? Weirdly enough, Zukaang fic comes the closest, and I haven't written for them until recently. Before this, I've only ever written straight ships and I haven't written much Zuko before, a character that fandom has strong opinions about and also a character that I don't feel particularly close to if that makes sense. And I haven't even written their platonic relationship, which I absolutely loved before I shipped them romantically. So of course the first fic I write with any version of Zukaang (Nebulous Roads) is romantic, and it was a little scary putting it out there for all of the above reasons 🥲 But people read it and seemed to not hate it or any of my Zukaang fics that followed, so I guess I'm doing okay lol.

16. Do you have that one fanfic that you wrote a ton for, ages ago, but never posted? Will this be the year, come hell or high water, that it WILL get finished and posted?

So there's a Kataang WIP with smut that I started to write in 2022 as a way to mentally balance out the supremely angsty feelings I was having while writing my Kataang break up/make up longfic, Drag You Down. Ironically, the smut fic WIP ended up being even more heavy angst than DYD lmaooo. I have no idea if I'll finish it, especially with all the Zukaang fic ideas in my head. But I suppose I have a whole year to think about it 🥲

8 - Is there a story idea in your mental vault that you’ve never been brave enough to try writing? Is this the year? Can you tell us about it?

Ok so. I have three that are each daunting in different ways and all of them I am really hoping to get to. And hoping that I’m at a point in my writing where I do them justice. The first is a fic that I actually started a couple years ago. It’s a no powers au centered on grief trauma and recovery that I call the tin man fic (from Miranda lambert’s tin man) for the old guard. The second one is a time travel au idea inspired by this is how you lose the time war for Ethan x ilsa. With things like loss and grief and dangerous hope. The last one is a post ending last samurai fic I definitely want to write dealing with (you guessed it) grief and loss. All of these are daunting to me because they’re not themes I’m used to exploring and I’m hoping to have the language and tools to really explore those in evocative ways. So they keep getting pushed to the end of the list even though I really want to write them

Ok. So. Several years ago I wrote a wholeass historical romance au for Star Trek aos and a sequel/companion with a different pairing as the focus. And one day (maybe this year, but I have like thirteen other story ideas on the docket, so maybe not) I would love to get back into them and update the writing because I dare say my writing has improved over the years. These also really tested me at the time because I was still early in my smut writing attempts and I’d like to think I could do those scenes better too. And then I could clean them up and post them

Hmmm I’ve never really thought about my writing that way. The two times I wound up on a rec list I was so surprised to find that people were perceiving my fic and talking about it to others. So idk. Maybe just that author who wrote that one fic that left me with brainworms. Would love to give someone brainworms one day

Having an idea be on my head rotating like chicken for Hazbin/Helluva that would merge both to have the characters interact as a PREQUEL to my Alastor Idea so I write it down only for it to turn into 2107 words of World building to that leads me to realize that I am basing Lucifer on my own experiences as someone who has religious trauma Catholic edition AND also is an eldest child which also leads me to realize I am writing religious fanfic.

can i ask for a Director’s Cut on the walburga fic? in particular the scene where she runs out and then sees the constellations of orion, regulus and sirius and has an epiphany. love that part

I loved that scene and here is my breakdown.

"A stitch bloomed in her side, a temporary paralysis that sent her hands clawing against her corset, her nails digging into the boning and chipping their pastel pink paint." - In this line, I wanted to show how restrictive being a woman in this world is via the image of her corset.

“Her legs wobbled and eventually gave out, sending her sprawling against one of the oak trees that lined the gravel path, her hand scraping against the rough bark as she lowered herself onto its roots, her skirts hissing around her.” - In Roman mythology the Oak tree is associated with Zeus (the male head of the pantheon of Roman Gods) and Walburga hurts herself while lowering herself onto the roots. Symbolising her bowing to the patriarchal society with the roots and tree symbolising her family heritage/evoking the branching of the tapestry. 

“She would rail at her father and beg her mother not to allow it. She would not abide by it.” - In this line I wanted to convey that she’s not that different from Sirius, she has this rebellious streak but unlike him she suppresses it. 

“She was only 16 yet had already sacrificed so much in the name of family duty, including her vague dreams of a potions book that could never be published. A plan pushed aside for the sake of propriety, only for her to become a Malfoy.” - I also like the idea that she is as talented as Sirius and that adds to how repressive her world feels. This line also demonstrates her Slytherin ambition. 

“Perhaps her grandfather's vague suggestion about her cousin Orion had not been so bad after all? The logic of the idea clicked in place, like the glimpsing of a portrait from a new perspective.” The portrait from a new perspective is the very point of this piece- fleshing out the human behind the caricature. Additionally, the idea that Orion is Walburga’s ‘choice’ is an interesting one. 

“A marriage to Orion would ensure that the positions of her sons would supersede that of her father and her brothers, and as the heir's wife, she would have unfettered access to the jewel vault and total control over her dowry.” This is the tragedy of Walburga’s life, her entire existence is defined by who she is in relation to the men around her. 

“I'll show that grubby, obsequious bootlicker,' she thought savagely, her hand curling in her lap, 'He wouldn't dare speak to the Black Matriarch in that manner.” - She is as petty as Sirius and they have a very similar cutting tongue.

“...her voice melting into the darkness around her as though she was making a pact with it. “ -The darkness does make a pact with her- it gives her what she wishes for, but it then makes her pay the price.

Currently JJK, Trigun, Assassin's Creed and Final Fantasy 12 (LMAO) are fandoms I have fics in progress for that will likely see the light of day. That's generally what I consider a fandom I "write for".

4. What are your top five fics by kudos?

Yep 99% of the time. If I miss something it's not intentional.

I don't really think I have one posted at the moment. I usually resolve my angst or give a fic at least a hopeful ending. Some things coming down the pipeline might fit in future iterations of this post, though. lol

7. What is the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Sweets for the Sweet, probably. It's pure, unadulterated Vashwood fluff.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

Not specifically on AO3, but I've gotten anon hate here (that seems fic related) and I just snort, delete and move on.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Yes, these days I tend to write fairly explicit but still vanilla sex. Haven't felt like writing anything particularly wild lately, but not against it.

10. Do you write crossovers?

I wrote a GO/Cosmic Horror fic ages ago that is lost to time and space (fried hard drive and purges). Other than that I have started a ton of crossovers but never finished any. I am however nearing the completion of a Trigun/JJK crossover (Midvalley the Hornfreak/Nanami Kento for the 2 people in the world this might interest LOL) It was supposed to be crack for cracks sake but it became crack treated seriously. LMAO

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

No I don't think so.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated? Not yet, but maybe soon?! Got asked for permission in regards to we were hungry before, so we'll see if that happens! :D

No but wouldn't be adverse to it. I've done writer/Artist collabs before, though.

I refuse to pick only one, deal with it. :D Kenren/Tenpou (Saiyuki Gaiden), Ineffable Husbands (GO), Vashwood (Trigun), Kakairu (Naruto), Shaytham (AC Rogue), Ubba/Vili (AC Valhalla), Nanago (JJK), Balthier/Basch (FF12), Ignoct (FF15). Throughout every fandom I will apparently fall face first into the ground for any variation of the stoic introvert/excitable extrovert pair.

I will not doom any of my WIPS to that fate. I remain optimistic that I'll finished them all.

Writing dialogue, banter & humor.

I know I have plenty of technical weaknesses with writing, but my true weaknesses are just not executing the idea I started with and terrible follow through/commitment to finishing.

Whatever someone wants to do with their fic is fine by me. I do what I need to do to get certain points across.

We were hungry before (JJK, Nanago, E) and Water of Life (AC Valhalla, Ubba/Vili, E, WIP) because I've put my blood sweat and tears into both of them (lots of tears, for real). Also, they both take me home (JJK, GetoNanaGo, M) because, for once, a fic turned out EXACTLY like I wanted it to.

3. Do you anticipate writing for a new fandom this year? Which one?

Hmmm. I've debated on finally caving and writing The Raven Cycle fic or finally committing to some of the Voltron fic I've had kicking around now that the fandom has mellowed out. Most of my fic is for the Bungou Stray Dogs fandom (i have a sideblog for 'em @fy-soukoku) and I do think I could branch out. I've recently gotten invested in Chainsaw Man as well, though I don't know if I trust myself to write fic yet. (It'd be a 20k one-shot of akiangel holding hands, of course.)

8. Is there a story idea in your mental vault that you’ve never been brave enough to try writing? Is this the year? Can you tell us about it?

I have a couple. I have a story idea I'm toying with that I haven't attached to a fandom yet, it's more a general prompt. (Percy Jackson ideas, and a fun little miscommunication story.

For BSD, I'm definitely writing a fic that explores what would have happened if Yosano had stayed with the mafia. Specifically, if she had continued working with Mori, and been partnered with Chuuya instead of Dazai - basically Double Black. I mean, "Angel of Death" that would be a terrifying name to throw about. I've got a few chapters written I've been sitting on.

About three Bungou Stray Dogs fic I've been "editing" (staring at blankly) for a year now. Including aforementioned Yosano fic. Actually two of them are Yosano fic. Sue me.

I had, very briefly, a multi-chapter fic meant to be a Hange backstory, but at this point I've fallen wayyyyyy behind on AOT. Maybe if I catch up this year, I'll post it heh.

3. Do you anticipate writing for a new fandom this year? Which one?

Not particularly. If we're counting fandom subsets, there are a few Kamen Rider series I plan on watching next year that seem like they might inspire me. Otherwise, who can say. I don't think I usually know much what will inspire me to write a fic or what I will get strongly into far in advance, and I don't have anything that I think I'll get super into that I want to start soon

8. Is there a story idea in your mental vault that you’ve never been brave enough to try writing? Is this the year? Can you tell us about it?

I think this really only applies to original fics, but I think for most fanfics I simply try writing it anyway. For original stuff, the ones I can think of are things I wrote a chapter or two of and then gave up on. One is a space idea where faster-than-light travel doesn't exist, but communications do. It's set on a planet just far enough away that the human empire isn't particularly trying to conquer, but the first human contact ship has arrived after centuries of contact. Also supernatural shenanigans happen.

I don't think this will be the year I write it, but you never know

16. Do you have that one fanfic that you wrote a ton for, ages ago, but never posted? Will this be the year, come hell or high water, that it WILL get finished and posted?

Hahaha I had 3. One got posted unposted last year (merlin au of les mis), one I will never finish because it's too messy and all over the place, even if it is technically mostly complete (Bartimaeus reincarnation au). The third (Lucifer au of fma), I will never post publicly and probably won't finish. I do occasionally remember this fic exists and then try and clean up some of the already written chapters to put in a shared google folder, so if anyone is interested, just let me know and I'll DM you a link. I do hope to finish editing what I have, fill out a couple of the gaps, and write a coherent outline of how this story would end, so there's a solid chance it could happen this year
