start of the week snippet <3
thank you to my beloved @xjustakay for tagging me mwah <333
from the second instalment in the overprotective james series:
“Jamie!” he yells the moment he catches sight of them, after Sirius has pushed through the crowd of parents and earned them the glares of at least half of them.
James is opening his arms even before Regulus reaches them, making sure to catch the boy and spinning him around a little, knowing it always makes him squeal and giggle. The sounds fill his chest with so much warmth he thinks he might explode.
When he pulls him down, Regulus stays close, hands resting on his chest as he looks up at him, starry-eyed and sporting a bright grin. James’ cheeks hurt from smiling.
“What am I, chopped liver?” Sirius huffs, one eyebrow raised and arms crossed over his chest. Despite the scowl twisting his features, James has no trouble catching the fond glint in his eye, always there whenever his brother looks genuinely happy.
Regulus rolls his eyes, barely sparing his brother a glance before he returns his focus to James, who, if he’s being completely honest, it’s more than a little pleased about having Regulus’ undivided attention.

"If you hurt Reggie, I'll fuck you up Prongs, our friendship be damned," and James only laughs.
"I'd let you if I did hurt him. I'd deserve it," James says, nodding once before his eyes widen with borderline terror. "Oh, you'd have to get in line behind Crouch and Rosier; there wouldn't be a body left for you to fuck up," and Sirius scowls at the thought of his brothers' friends before nodding in approval.

"I'd help them bury your body, I hope you know. Glad we're on the same page."

I don’t know I just find it funny that James and Teddy already act like a couple before they even get together (I’m on the chapter where Teddy makes his first appearance and James literally wraps his legs around him in the hug lol)
EHEH YEAH. I did that on purpose. I wanted to show how James is an affectionate person (masculine stereotypes be damned he's gonna kiss your forehead) and how he's very affectionate with the people he loves regardless of platonic or romantic inclinations. It's also supposed to show how effortless the "transition" will be for them between friends and more-than-friends. They already love each other beyond reason, honestly the only line that needs to be crossed is with words. All they gotta do is stop saying "best friend" and start using pet names instead, on god. This is also why everyone around them is like 🧍‍♀️🧍‍♀️🧍‍♀️ nah they a thing. Like two seconds around them and the cousins are side eyeing them. Victoire caught on IMMEDIATELY but those two still don't realize it. Everyone around them rn is just—

I finally finished my 40K Jegulus fic-
Let me convince you to read it, in one sentence:
It's a fluffy (and smutty) hidden relationship where James falls first but Regulus falls harder <3

All I can think about is James being so protective and sweet while Sirius is pregnant. Like the glares he’d be sending people if they even glanced at Sirius and Sirius would mutter about his overprotective husband but he’d be secretly loving every second of it. And he would be a mess when Sirius goes into labour and as soon as Harry is born he wouldn’t stop crying. Just James Potter being protective over his boys.
HE WOULD. James somehow knows that Sirius is pregnant even before Sirius does, and he goes into overprotective mode instantly, to the point where even Sirius is like wtf???? And then when they find out about the baby, everyone's like OH yeah that makes sense.
Full moons with Moony now consist of the stag just standing in front of Padfoot the whole night while Moony tries to get the dog to play, and afterwards Sirius is like "babe I love how protective you are but you are LITERALLY a prey animal, please stop antagonizing the werewolf, I can handle him myself" 😂

the poly!marauders and lily x shy!reader!!!!! I genuinely cannot handle how much I love it omg🫠🫠 would u be willing to make it a series??
maybe remus being overprotective/possessive of her before the full moon and she’s just like ???? bc she doesn’t know about his furry problem🫣 but the rest of the group are just really casual about the way he’s acting like “oh yeah he does this sometimes, just ignore it” and r is just like 🤔?? bc he literally won’t let her go and wants her by his side and lap all day!!
aaaaaah my mind got carried away after reading ur amazing fic🩷🩷
so. stinkin. cute (thoughts and prayers for our shy!reader fr)
poly!marauders + lily x shy!reader close to Remus' time of the month
CW: love bite/hickies, man-handling Remus [ik, ik]
You had been…seeing the boys and Lily for long enough now to have noticed a few peculiarities.
Black envelopes with green wax melts on the front that were delivered to Sirius were always confiscated immediately by Lily. Following the envelope's arrival, the rest of the group tended to fawn over Sirius for the rest of the day.
James was incredibly bright as a student in all subjects except Ancient Runes; prior to any quizzes or assignments, the group would play a game of “question pong” which was a twist on the muggle game ‘beer pong’ where cups were lined up and James would aim a ping pong ball and have to answer a question that was placed inside the cup that he had scored in. This amount of effort wasn’t placed into any of the others’ studies.
And what was obviously something the boys were ultimately accustomed to doing for Lily now extended to you when you couldn’t help but notice that at least one of them always escorted you to any of your classes in the dungeons.
Another peculiarity, however, seemed to centre around Remus.
Once a month, the group got a bit…sketchy before the three boys would disappear for about a day and then return basically back to normal.
Lily seemed to be accepting of these occurrences, so you opted not to concern yourself with it either; if it was something you needed to know, they’d tell you.
Right?
Because, you see, the sketchiness wasn’t just limited to their comings and goings; but rather Remus himself.
He was a tactile person, that much you knew to be true. He almost always had a hand on one of his partners, a boyfriend or a girlfriend in his lap, or an arm around someone’s shoulders.
And yes, you’d been growing increasingly accustomed to the affection.
But it seemed to you that around these bouts of…sketchiness, the affection seemed to grow into something rather possessive.
For example; it became clear to you that out of the three boys, James and Sirius were the ones who had a particular problem with Severus Snape, but during said period of said sketchiness, Remus nearly growled when he saw Lily and Snape discussing the upcoming Potions exam before he latched himself onto Lily’s side until Severus finally left.
And then at the quidditch game against Ravenclaw, a group of girls behind you, Lily, and Remus were giggling over how ‘fit the Gryffindor captain was’ which led to Remus standing abruptly, moving to lean against the railing of the Gryffindor stands to wave James over before he pressed a searing kiss to the chasers lips leaving them both rather breathless.
And then there was the party in the Ravenclaw common room for Benjy Fenwicks birthday where you, Lily, and Remus had been sitting watching James and Sirius dance with Marlene and Mary before Gilderoy Lockhart slid up behind Sirius in an attempt to dance with him. Sirius hardly had a chance to react before Remus was on the dancefloor and pulling his boyfriend into him, slotting their hips together and swaying sinfully to the beat all while maintaining eye contact with Gilderoy.
It seems important to note that Remus doesn’t dance.
All this to say, Remus got…sketchy.
But all of this had nothing on how he seemed to become around you.
You weren’t sure what caused the difference; perhaps it was because you were new to the group, perhaps it was because you were shy, or perhaps it was because he was more confident in his and the others’ roles within the dynamic. Either way, you were certain you were simply going to combust from the sheer amount of attention being devoted to you by your quietest boy.
You could hardly breathe or blink without him noticing, it seemed. And if you were within his vicinity, you were in his arms or on his lap.
Like right now…
You’d no sooner entered the Great Hall when you spotted Lily’s fiery red hair and made for the group before you were being man-handled to sit on the bench between his thighs.
“You almost missed breakfast, dove.” He offered quietly as he started preparing a plate for you right in front of your eyes.
“Jeez Moony, whatever happened to good morning.” Sirius teased as he shot you a wink.
“Morning angel.” James offered quickly as Lily smiled softly at you.
“Oh, hi! I..uhm, I’m not that hungry, Rem.” You tried, but it was apparently the wrong thing to say.
Remus’ movements hardly faltered as he continued buttering an english muffin for you, but everyone else seemed to freeze in their movements as they watched the two of you with bated breaths.
“Breakfast is important.” He said simply.
And believing he was quite close to actually hand feeding you the english muffin, you simply took it from his hands and shrunk into his chest at the attention.
You felt your heart leap both in affection and embarrassment as you felt him press his lips to your neck as you ate, looking to the other three in hopes of help or explanation, of which you received neither.
“I was wondering if you wanted to have a sleepover with me tonight?” Lily asked you as she sipped from her tea.
“Oh, I uhm…sure, that’d be nice. Is everyone going to be there?”
Remus kept his face pressed to your neck but the others shared a glance.
“No, we have a Marauders thing to attend to tonight, sweetness. Can we call dibs for the weekend?” Sirius offered, but his attempt was quickly shot down by Remus.
“Tomorrow.” He muttered from your neck as you fought the urge to shiver at the tickle of his breath.
“What about the night after that?” Lily tried again.
You let out a surprised (and perhaps nervous) squeak when Remus’ embrace tightened around your middle.
“Tomorrow.”
“Moons…” James tried, which finally got Remus’ face out from your neck in order to glare at his boyfriend.
“Tomorrow will be fine.” He proclaimed with an air of finality before he shoved his face unceremoniously back into your neck and latched his mouth to your jugular, eliciting another surprised yelp from your lips.
“How’s that for a good morning, Y/N?” Sirius asked with a wink.
You spent the rest of your breakfast wondering if this was your own personal heaven or your own personal hell.
Jury was still out by the time you left the Great Hall with a love bite displayed above the collar of your uniform.

Hi 🥺 can I pretty please ask for a fic with emt!marauders treating and helping reader get through getting stitches? Maybe having a huge fear of needles and they always make her so faint and nauseous so the boys fix up their clumsy girl and coach her through getting them because it’s just the absolute worst time ever?
Hi lovely, thank you for requesting! These always get so long because I get wrapped up in the semantics haha. I don’t think this is an accurate reflection of how things work for paramedics, but for the purposes of fiction we’re gonna ignore that :3
Cw: needles, hospital, mention of nausea
emt!marauders x fem!reader ♡ 2.1k words
James is murmuring what you imagine to be placations into the side of your head, so quietly you can’t make them out, and you’re doing your best to keep your hand completely still as a nurse cleans the cut on your palm.
Sirius is watching you from beside the small bed with tension written all over him. He’s digging his fingernails into his biceps and looking like he might actually jump the nurse if she makes a wrong move.
“Where’s Remus?” he asks, not for the first time.
“He’s just finishing up with another patient,” she answers again. “He’ll be here shortly.”
As eager as you are to see your boyfriend, dread curls like vines around your ribcage. James, sensing this, presses his lips to your temple.
Ordinarily, paramedics don’t handle stitches, but at your request and after some sweet-talking on James’ part, the director agreed to let Remus see to you. What was staunchly not allowed, however, was for anyone not currently on shift to step in, so your remaining two boyfriends are stuck providing emotional support. James seems to be taking this better, whereas Sirius has been antsy and overprotective since you’d arrived.
A fraction of the tautness in his biceps dissipates when a familiar set of quick footsteps draws closer on the tiled floor outside your curtain. The nurse is the only one who doesn’t seem to notice, the three of you perking up like meerkats the moment before Remus pulls back the curtain, stepping inside.
“Hi,” he says, a small, automatic smile curving his lips at the sight of all of you.
The nurse finishes with perfect timing, tossing the wipe into the trash as she starts to leave. You and Remus both thank her, and once the curtain closes the four of you in together everything feels suddenly more right. You hear James sigh softly.
Remus gets closer than he was willing with a colleague present, wrapping a kind hand around your elbow and soothing upward from there. “Hi, darling,” he says again, softer now. “They tell me you’ve had a kitchen accident.”
“Totally intentional,” James jokes. “We all just really missed you, needed an excuse to visit.”
You try to laugh for his sake, and though it’s not fully felt it still helps to loosen the knot of unease in your chest.
Remus smiles gently. His thumb strokes up and down the back of your arm. “How are you doing?” he asks you.
You do your best to smile back at him, though from Sirius’ expression it must not be very good. “Honestly? I already feel kind of nauseous.”
“That’s okay,” he promises, and you can tell he’s making his voice extra low and smooth on purpose. Any other time you might laugh at him for it, but actually it’s quite helpful. “It makes sense to be a bit nervous, yeah? But you won’t feel anything, and so long as you don’t look at it while I’m working I think we’ll be all right.”
Remus looks you in the eyes for a moment longer to make sure you understand. His eyes are the color of tea steeped just the way you like it, warm and honey-sweet. And maybe you’re feeling vulnerable and mushy, but you think you fall a little more in love with him.
You nod, letting him take your injured hand.
“I have to numb it,” he warns you, “and that will likely be the hardest part, but once it’s done things will go fairly easily. Okay?”
You press your lips together, nodding again not because you want to but because you know you don’t have much choice. James readjusts his hold on you, gripping you tightly with one arm around your shoulders and the other folding your head into his chest. You suspect it’s partly to keep you from moving and partly because he knows you need it, but it feels as though he’s just doing his best to give you a continual hug. You appreciate the effort.
You follow the movement of Remus’ hand as he picks up a syringe from the tray the nurse had brought in. There’s that odd tingly feeling of the blood draining from your face, the awful queasiness in your stomach.
“Don’t look,” Sirius tells you, voice just as caring as it is tense. You can tell he’s trying to calm himself for your sake, even if he’s not very good at it. You’ve heard from James and Remus that he’s cool as a cucumber when he works with other patients, but when it’s you or someone he cares about he can’t help getting a bit rattled. “You’re okay, baby, just close your eyes. Think of something else.”
You can manage the first but not the second. When you feel Remus shifting his hold on your hand your breaths shallow.
“Quick poke,” he murmurs, and your grip on James tightens as his does on you.
Though you think you’re prepared for it, a mortifying pained sound rises in your throat at the sting. Both James and Sirius coo sympathetically, but then it’s done, and Remus is murmuring praises while James presses kiss after kiss into your hair.
You open your eyes to find Sirius has moved closer. He passes you a vomit bag, and you take it thankfully, trying to breathe through the closure in your throat.
“You’ve got it,” he tells you, brows knit together by both sympathy and concern. “You’re okay, it’s already over with.”
“I don’t really feel like I’m completely out of the woods,” you try to joke. The truth to it tightens something in you nonetheless.
“You won’t even feel the rest,” James assures you, still with his lips stuck to you like it’s his job. He smells nice, his eucalyptus shampoo cutting through the icky hospital scent. “You’ll hardly know it’s happening, lovie, we’ll just talk about other things and be out of here before you know it.”
“I really don’t want to faint,” you say. “I feel like today has been bad enough without fainting.”
“I’m inclined to agree,” says Remus. You’ve been avoiding looking at him, wary of catching sight of another needle or worsening your nausea by seeing your cut, but his gloved hands are empty. He cradles your injured hand in one, the other drawing a tranquilizing path up and down the side of your thigh. “You won’t faint, sweetheart. We’ll do our best to keep you distracted, and if you need to take breaks we can do that. It’s whatever you need.”
You blow out a long breath, nodding. Remus gives you a small smile.
“I only ask that you don’t hold any of this against me,” he teases. “I’m going to require lots of assurance that you’re not upset when I get home.”
James coos, sounding like he’s considering pulling Remus into your hug as well.
“No, I know this is all my own fault,” you admit. Sirius huffs his agreement. “I could never hold my clumsiness against you.”
“I appreciate that.” Remus sends Sirius an intrigued look. “Though maybe I’ll have to make it up to you by cooking, since it seems like you could be barred from the kitchen for some time. Can you feel that?”
You blink at him. “Feel what?”
“Good.”
Remus starts messing with things on the tray again, and both James and Sirius seem to come to attention, James putting his arm around your head again while Sirius pulls up a chair by the bed.
“The medicine’s working,” Remus tells you, “so I’m going to go ahead and get started, okay? Just try and relax for me, sweetheart.”
Your eyes go automatically to what he’s doing, but Sirius says sharply, “Hey.”
That gets your attention, and he gives you an apologetic look, gentling his tone as he takes your good hand.
“Just look at me,” he tells you. You don’t know if he knows it, but his thumb is tracing a line below your thumb that’s exactly where your cut is on your other palm. “Are you okay to talk, pretty girl?”
You hum. It comes out high-pitched and shakier than you would’ve expected.
“Why don’t you tell us about that book you want Remus to read?”
For a moment, surprise eclipses your anxiety. “You really wanna hear about that?”
Sirius grins. “No, but you’ve got a captive audience. If I were you I’d seize my chance.”
You start to smile back at him, but then there’s an odd tugging sensation on your hand. Sirius notices the change, moving to block your view with his hand before you can look towards Remus’ work. Still, your stomach rolls uneasily. Your head feels unnaturally light.
Sirius says your name firmly. “Tell us about the book, baby.”
“It’s…” You fight to solidify your thoughts. “It’s a true story.”
“Yeah?”
“Yeah. I thought it was fiction, but it’s not.” Another tug, and you whimper. “Sorry, I don’t feel well.”
“You’re doing great,” James says, and Sirius takes the bag from you, opening it up in case you need it. “Just stay relaxed, we’ve got you.”
“What’s the true story?” Sirius asks, trying to get you back on task. “What’s it about?”
“This guy,” you answer. “He’s from Syria, but he lives in New Orleans and he’s there when Hurricane Katrina hits. I’m not that far in, but so far it’s about, like—” you swallow “—how he’s discriminated against even when he’s helping people.”
Though you try to stop it, a tear skids down your cheek. Sirius wipes it away gently. “Yeah?” he asks you. “Are you liking it so far?”
You nod, feeling more in your own body as you try to focus on the conversation. Even the panic is a bit of a relief, better than the strange weightlessness of your head when you’re on the brink of passing out.
“I don’t think I would have picked it up if I’d known it was nonfiction,” you tell Sirius. He smiles wryly, which looks like it takes effort. “I usually only read fiction, but this was done really well.”
“I think you’re right,” he replies. “Remus absolutely should read that.”
“Not you?” James teases.
Sirius shoots a mean look over your head, though you can tell he’s relieved at the familiar banter. “Are you volunteering?” he asks James. “No? Didn’t think so.”
“Surely there’s a movie version we can watch instead. Lovie, do you know?”
“I haven’t heard of one,” you admit, “but the book’s a bit older, so maybe the movie came out before I’d heard about it.”
“We’ll have to look it up,” Sirius decides. “If it’s really that good, there’ll be a movie.”
That’s something you could argue about forever, and he knows it, but just then you hear something snip and Remus says, “There.”
“There?” you echo.
Sirius looses a breath, and James hugs you tightly. “You’re all done, angel,” he says brightly.
“Oh.” You feel, perhaps, not as relieved as you ought to, and Sirius chuckles at your confusion, taking your face between his hands and planting a kiss between your brows.
“You really are done,” he promises you. “You killed it, babe.”
James loosens his grip on you and Sirius moves his hand, letting you turn your head to see Remus securing a bandage over your palm. He looks up at you when he pulls off his gloves, pride and fondness mingled in his expression. His eyes narrow at the look on your face.
“Hug?” he guesses, and you nod as you sit forward, wrapping your hands around his shoulders.
It’s the closure you need, relief dissolving the tension in your muscles and gut as Remus’ thumb strokes your nape reassuringly. “Thanks,” you mumble into his shoulder.
“You did it, darling,” he tells you. “Nothing to thank me for.”
“Before I bled all over our counter, I was cutting tomatoes for pasta tonight,” you say. “I’ll finish it up when I get home so I can thank you with dinner.”
Sirius scoffs loudly. “Yeah, fat chance. You’re not going near another knife for the rest of your life.”
You roll your eyes as you pull away from Remus, but he raises an eyebrow at you, smiling faintly. “I’m with him on this one,” he says. “At least a temporary kitchen ban is in order.”
You groan, leaning sideways until your shoulder rests on James’ chest. He wraps his arms around you automatically. “You guys are so lame,” you gripe.
“Don’t worry, lovie,” says James, kissing the side of your nose lightly. “I’ll finish your pasta when we get home. Everybody wins.”

James Beaufort x Reader
Title: Distracted
Synopsis: James and Reader have an argument after she feels that he is being too overprotective. She gets injured during a volley ball game and he comforts and apologizes.
Warnings: mentions of blood/wounds
Sorry if volley ball is described inaccurately in the brief moment it's discussed. Last fic for about 24 to 48 hours. Decided to take some time off to rest up. Sinus infection had gotten worse. My ears are plugged and hurt. I have about 8 to 9 more requests, so more is definitely coming.
The fight that they had was just full of nonsense. At least, that was in regards to Y/N’s own opinions. James felt as if he was in the right, only wanting what was best for his girlfriend. He just wanted to make sure that she was safe. He thought that he was being overprotective. Y/N thought that it was that with a hint of jealousy. It was known though that neither of them could come to agreement on what it actually was.
“Can you stop breathing down my neck, just for twenty four hours?” Y/N raised her voice slightly, turning to look at James. He had been following her around, making sure that she was okay and safe. She felt suffocated though, that if he continued to stick around that she would die due to lack of oxygen.
“I just want to know that you are okay. Is that too much to ask for?”
“Yea. It is actually, because if you stick around any longer, I might get arrested and charged with murder!” James paused his steps and stared at her. Confusion and slight anger was portrayed on his face.
“What is your problem?” He asked. Y/N turned around, looking at him as if he just slapped her. And he might as well just have.
“What is my problem? It’s you, James.” Now it was his turn to act as if he had just been slapped. James took a staggered step back, a look entirely of hurt and confusion the only thing to be seen on his face.
“What?” Y/N had almost felt guilty, seeing the blow that she had just landed, even if she knew that all that he wanted to know was that she was safe. Instead, she had only stood her ground and raised her chin slightly in defiance.
“You heard me.The problem is you.” James didn’t know how to react, and if they weren’t currently in the situation that they were in, Y/N might have felt proud to have put James in the state that he was currently in. “You’re suffocating me. I feel like I can’t breathe. I take a few steps in any direction and I’m knocking myself into you. And it’s constant, James. It’s like you’re being some possessive boyfriend. What’s next? You are going to start dictating who I can or can’t be friends with?” James did say anything. Honestly, he didn’t have much to say, so he only remained standing, averting his eyes from her gaze and looking anywhere else. His jaw clenched, but he knew that he couldn’t be mad at anyone but himself, even if he was angry at the current way she was speaking to him.
“What?” Y/N questioned. “Cat got your tongue?” And just like that, James was gone, turning around on his heel and stomping down the hall. Y/N had felt nasty for the way that she had just treated him, but she also knew that she had to make her voice heard. She felt that there was no other way for her to have accomplished it in any other way than in that moment.
—-
It had been a few days since the two of them had talked. Y/N had rightfully been angry and James himself had rightfully, even if he had deserved it, been upset and hurt. They had both mutually agreed that it was best to give each other some time to cool down and relax. The last thing that either one of them had wanted to do was come back and say anything that would be highly regretted. Not that Y/N didn’t already regret the way she snapped at James. She had honestly wished that she could just go back and choose a better way to have got about it.
But the damage had been done, and the only thing that she could do now was wait until he had cooled down enough to talk.
In the meantime, Y/N had a volleyball game to prepare for in a few days, and she would be lying if she said that she was good to play. Even if it happened a few days ago, the argument was still fresh in her mind, and had been affecting her ability to focus well enough on the task of the game.
No matter what happened, she could never stop thinking about him.
Y/N had wondered if she should check in with them, considering their lack of conversations over the past few days. Her friends would easily tell her no and to let him stew in the moment. A few of them had even gone as far as to tell her to give him hints that she wanted to break it off, because it would quote, light a fire under his ass, unquote. But Y/N couldn’t do it. She wasn’t that brutal. However, she didn’t want to back out on her defense, knowing that her feelings were justified, and she didn’t want to do anything that might suggest otherwise.
That didn’t change the amount of times that her finger hovered over the send buttons to numerous different messages.
Im sorry
Love you
I hope you are doing okay. Let’s talk soon.
One of them consisted of just heart emojis. There were even times messages consisted of a mixture of those messages.
Even as the volley game against a rival college was about to start, Y/N was doing just that. She sat on a bench in the locker room, biting her nail as she tried to make up her mind on whether or not to send the message. Y/N wasn’t even sure if he would show up tonight.
I don’t know if you plan on coming to the game tonight. But I think we should talk soon. Y F/L/M initials
She let out a heavy sigh, running her hand through her hair, finally pressing send. And then she waited for several moments, waiting to see if he would open and read it. When ten minutes passed and she was finally being yelled at for not being on the court yet, she figured that he was probably still mad at her.
Y/N tossed her phone into her gym bag, leaving it at that. Which obviously, with the continued emotions only adding to inability to play the game. She should have told her coach, but yet, here she was, running out of the locker room and onto the court, her mind filled to the brim with thoughts and questions, and ultimately, him.
The game though had surprisingly started out pretty okay. They were almost done with their first set when Y/N saw James walk into the gymnasium. They locked eyes momentarily, her heart fluttering. He showed her his phone, likely telling her that he had seen her message. But he still didn’t look too enthused. She swallowed thickly, turning back to the game when her name was called. The ball was just over her, and she jumped, spiking the ball over the net, scoring a point for Maxton Hall.
As the team captain, she knew she had to keep her mind distraction free, but it was definitely easier said than done. They couldn’t do well if she wasn’t there. But even with that thought in mind, she still wasn’t doing well enough. Halfway through the game as a whole, everything in her mind, thinking about the argument, about him, and what might come of them after the game had gotten too much.
She had the space and time to dive for the ball in front of her, hitting it up and over the net just in time before it hit the ball, none of the other girls close enough to hit it, They couldn’t take the risk. So she dove, and in the end, she almost wished that she didn’t.
No matter what she did, she couldn’t stop herself from cracking her face against the floor. She laid there for what seemed like several minutes and wasn’t even sure if she hit the ball over the net. Instead, she heard the crowd murmuring silently, her teammates coming over to check on her.
She lifted her head off the floor. Y/N saw the blood. She brought her hand to the left side of her face, feeling the wetness of the blood and gingerly touching the outline of a gash. Her head snapped up to meet James’ own panicked look. He was standing up from his seat, watching her, his eyes wide. It only took a few more seconds and her coach pressed a towel to the side of her head for him to come running down. Her ears were ringing by the time he made it to them.
She watched as he spoke to her couch,  but her mind was so fuzzy that she couldn’t exactly find it in herself to make out what was being said.
And then James was escorting her out of the school and towards Percy, where he was waiting for them. One arm was wrapped around her waist while the other was pressed to the towel currently on the wound.
“We have to take her to the hospital, Percy. Nasty little cut on her forehead.” James spoke to his chauffeur as the two of them slid into the car. As the car got moving, the two sat in silence for several moments.
“My phone is in my gym bag. Can you tell my parents where we are going?” she asked. He passed his phone to her, but as she grabbed it, he replaced his phone with his hand.
“I want to say I’m sorry.” he spoke softly. Y/N looked at him in shock. “I shouldn’t have been acting the way that I was. It wasn’t right of me. I know you can look after yourself.” James turned his head to look at her. His eyes glanced at the place where the towel sat.
“I should be the one apologizing.” His eyes snapped back to her. “I shouldn’t have spoken to you the way that I did. I know that you only want what is best for me, and snapping at you the way that I did wasn’t the best way to show my appreciation, no matter how mad I was.” Y/N explained. “I just hope that we can fix this and use it moving forward in our relationship as a reminder. That is, if you want.”
“If I want? Just because we had an argument doesn’t mean you’re getting free of me.” He joked, a smile gracing his lips. “It’s only one of many that we will have in the coming future. Arguments aren’t avoidable.” Y/N gave him a smile, leaning into him. She went to press a kiss to his cheek, but he had turned his head enough to make her lips land on his own. They leaned into it, and Y/N could feel a cheeky smile grace his lips.
When they pulled away, Y/N held his gaze.
“Promise?” His cheeky smile turned into a soft one.
“Promise.”

the most unrealistic thing about the overprotective james series is that james is so popular with girls and always dating despite being completely obsessed with regulus . like wdym this idiot gets bitches??? his gf asks his opinion on her new jacket and james tells her how well it'd suit regulus, she shows him this new eyeshadow she bought and james can only think about how it's the exact shade of regulus' eyes, she wants him to come over and "sure babe but can regulus come too?"

warnings: major injury (concussion, mention of blood), angry!hayley, mancity!hayley
a/n: no hate to chelsea or its players, it’s just for the fic
------
chelsea vs manchester city.
the two strongest sides in the super league.
all the passion and power both teams had was coming to a head today, in the cup final.
to say i was nervous was an understatement, it wasn’t my first major game with the club but i got the jitters before every important fixture.
gareth had published the starting lineup yesterday at training, which i’d immediately looked over and noted that he’d put me in first. starting at centre back, lucky number eight.
when we arrived at the stadium, there was people all around in the stands. you could hear the crowd, not yelling, but the sheer amount of them made all the talking reverberate and was heard from the changing rooms.
eventually, we all ran out to start warm up, spending time running basic drills, gareth shouting instructions here and there, psyching ourselves up to play in our biggest game yet.
you could hear over the loudspeakers throughout the stadium, they announced each player one by one, as we each came up on the big screen. when we were called back into the tunnel, hayley came up next to me, bumping my shoulder with a grin.
“you excited?”
“yea, you could say that. nerves are buzzing in my stomach though.”
her laugh was light and sweet, her eyes sparkling with humour.
“you’ll do great. best centre back we’ve got.”
i could feel the blush spread on my cheeks. it was then that gareth herded us all in the change room, wanting to give us a pre match pep talk.
“go out there and crush them, girls. we got this.”
with one last cheer, we all walked out, the starting eleven lining up behind steph houghton, the experienced defender leading us out.
when we first kicked off it wasn’t an exciting start.
i didn’t get much ball time within the first ten minutes, kiera and georgia kept the ball up in the middle, occasionally passing back to defense who promptly kicked it back up.
chelsea’s first break came in the 25’ minute with sam kerr. she was lightning fast and had the ability to head in goals from anywhere.
lauren james had given her an amazing pass from the mid, and kerr was bolting for the ball down the left wing. i knew that jen was meant to be there, but she was too far up the field to make it back and still defend.
that’s where i came in, sliding along the grass to kick the ball away from sam’s foot at the last moment. it was a brilliant save, if i did say so myself, and ellie in goal was punching the air at my moves.
finally, we broke the stalemate, kiera landed an unexpected but amazing shot from outside the box. it was 1-0 to man city.
the whistle blew for half time shortly after and i dragged myself down the tunnel. chelsea was definitely making us work for it.
a fifteen minute break only seemed like five when we had to walk back out there. gareth had subbed hayley onto the field to play in striker, hoping we had another lucky break.
quite the opposite happened, however.
chelsea had the ball up our end, before it was tackled away; they had a corner kick. guro took that shot, and props to her because it curved beautifully. i had leapt up to header the ball away, but at the same time, lauren james was there.
her body had smashed into mine, knocking me back. however, it wasn’t the crash itself that had caused damage. when i had fallen back i was too close to the goal and my head had been hit on the metal post.
i heard the crack, and an audible gasp, although i couldn’t determine who that came from. a wave of pain consumed my body, from my head down. the first thing i did was reach a hand up to my head. when my fingers pulled away, the tips were covered in blood.
my blood.
i could barely make out what was happening around me, it was a fight to keep my eyes open and my ears were ringing, but what i did see was hayley going toe-to-toe with lauren james.
the medics had reached us then, but for me it was already too late, i closed my eyes and let my vision go black.
hayley was almost screaming in lauren’s face, this was her fault, she pushed me into the goal post and now i was unconscious. our teammates had to physically restrain her before things got out of hand. the ref handed lauren a yellow card for her dangerous play and hayley got a warning for her words.
i was stretchered off the field and taken in ambulance to the nearest hospital before the girls could restart their game.
when i woke up, the first thing i noticed was the white room. everywhere i looked there was white. then i saw hayley sitting next to me. i didn’t know how long she’d been there, but she was currently asleep in the chair so my guess was long enough.
hayley had always been a light sleeper, so when i moved my hand, it was no surprise that she woke up immediately.
“you’re awake.”
she stood up and called for the nurse. a younger woman walked into the room with a clipboard and some paperwork.
“yn yln?”
“yea-a.”
my voice was all croaky from not having spoken in a while.
“how are you feeling? took quite the fall on the pitch today.”
i didn’t have a clue what she was talking about so i just answered the question.
“my head hurts a bit. i don’t remember anything happening. what happened?”
hayley was the first to speak up this time, recounting what had happened on the pitch earlier.
“your head was whacked against the goal post.”
turns out i’d split my head open, even if it was only a little bit, and gotten a concussion.
slowly i took in everything that had happened within the last couple of hours. i didn’t say anything just say in silence trying to process things.
the nurse ended up leaving after a bit, telling me i was free to go, as long as i had someone that could supervise me for a couple of days. that left me and hayley in the room alone again.
“i was so worried that you wouldn’t remember me.”
i don’t think she expected me to answer, or even hear what she said in the first place, but i knew.
“i wouldn’t forget you, ribbons. i’d never forget you.”

pairings — avenger!james (bucky) barnes x fem!human!avenger!reader

word count — 7.7k.
warnings — lots of angst, lots of hints at winterwidow (but its not actually happening), also a lot of miscommunication, mentions of bucky's trauma, mentions of reader's past with old relationships, use of pet-names [doll, baby, babydoll, darling, sweetheart], reader calls bucky james a lot, cuddles, dancing, screaming fights, secret relationships, a lot of the avengers not being completely supportive of their relationship and being kind of judgemental, also big mentions of bucky's past and also past relationships and big hints at him kind of being a heartthrob / player / heartbreaker and like sleeping around etc., bucky's kind of an asshole, steve and natasha and wanda are probably the closest to the reader, steve's kind of hard on bucky but it's for a good reason, steve and wanda and natasha are hella overprotective of the reader, kisses, pining, jealousy, love confessions, tension!
notes — i'm back in my bucky obsession, so let's expect more!! also, this is the fastest i've EVER written a fic omg. gif and divider creds to owner!

THINKING BACK ON IT, NEITHER of them could say for sure how it first started.
they just knew that finding each other was the best thing to ever happen to either of them.
"looking at it now, it all seems so simple. we were lying on your couch. i remember."
the air is quiet with a calm and comfortable silence.
"do you think anything's going to change?" [y/n] asks quietly, not daring to look up at him.
she keeps her head leaning over his shoulder, becoming incredibly comfortable, but also feeling a little nervous of what his reply will be.
it takes him a moment before he answers her, "no, and even if they do, we'll figure it out."
[y/n] sighs, trying to keep the lingering, negative worries buried, as she moves the blanket to cover the both of them.
bucky chuckles, gently moving the fuzzy blanket off of his body and over to cover her whole, shivering body. "doll, you know my body's too warm for the blanket."
[y/n] sighs dramatically, rolling her eyes. "ugh, i hate how amazing your body is."
as soon as the words leave her lips, she groans and buries her face into his chest. "oh my god."
bucky smirks down at her.
she lifts her head up and squints her eyes in clear embarrassment. "i didn't mean it like that!"
bucky gives her a pointed look.
"i didn't!" she yells defensively.
she sighs. "you know i meant like how amazing your body is in the sense of healing and how you're always warm."
bucky chuckles, shaking his head. "sweetheart, i know. i'm just kidding."
"you better be." she mumbles, moving back to lie her head back on his chest and snuggling closer to him.
"you took a polaroid of us. then discovered (then discovered) the rest of the world was black and white. but we were screaming in color. and i remember thinking."
[y/n] giggles as he kisses her cheek, just as she takes the picture.
"bucky!" she yells, turning around to shove him, after she took the polaroid out of the camera and setting it down.
"what?"
"that picture is probably all blurry now!" she whines, turning back around to grab it on the side table.
she shakes it as he wraps his arms around her waist, both of them waiting to see what the picture will look like.
she giggles again as he buries his face into her neck, the scruff on his jaw tickling her.
he lifts his head up as the picture becomes much more clearer.
"huh." she murmurs, a soft smile forming on her lips as they both notice that the picture is perfect—no blurs, or anything like that.
"see? it's fine." he whispers, but since they're so close, she can hear it clearly.
she giggles as she turns around to face him, moving her hands up to his face, giggling once more at the feel of the facial hair that's grown on his face.
"fine. maybe it is." she says with playful glare.
he smiles genuinely, placing his own hands over hers, just appreciating the moment.
"are we out of the woods yet? are we out of the woods yet? are we out of the woods yet? are we out of the woods?"
with a silent gasp, [y/n] holds her breath and stands still, hiding behind the corner of the wall.
"what's going on between the two of you?" steve's voice speaks up again, judgement in his voice.
"what are you talking about?" bucky asks, trying to act dumb.
"come on, buck," steve says, giving him a pointed look. "it's clear that something's going on."
bucky shakes his head immediately, almost feeling and sounding defensive. "there's not anything going on."
[y/n]'s heart stops as she hears those words.
she wasn't expecting him to admit it, especially considering the fact that they've been keeping everything on the down low.
but, how could he sound so disgusted at the mere thought of them together?
with no more interest in hearing any more of that conversation, [y/n] angrily pushes herself away from the wall and marches up the stairs, up to her bedroom.
"are we in the clear yet? are we in the clear yet? are we in the clear yet? in the clear yet, good."
hearing her bedroom door open, [y/n] immediately turns away to hastily wipe away the tears staining her cheeks.
"doll? why are you—" bucky cuts himself off as he notices her red face and runny nose.
"are you crying?" he asks, shutting the door gently as he walks over to her.
"baby, what's wrong? talk to me." he murmurs as he sits down beside her, cupping her face gently.
[y/n] only scoffs, pulling away from him and getting up, wanting to get away from him.
"you have a lot of nerve, james!" she exclaims as she turns around, trying to ignore the sniffling sound coming from her nose.
bucky's eyebrows furrow in confusion. "sweetheart, what's going on? why are you acting like this all of a sudden?"
she scoffs again. "are you kidding me right now?"
he raises his hands up in the air, becoming frustrated.
realizing that he's probably never going to get it until she spells it out, she spits it out with disdain, "how was your talk with steve, huh? you have anything you wanna tell me?"
his eyes fill with realization.
bucky opens his mouth to say something — anything — to explain, before she can come up with too many assumptions.
she holds up her finger, trying to shut him up. "what are we even doing, james?"
he falls short at her words.
"if nothing is going on, then why are we even doing any of this?" she questions, pointing between the both of them to emphasize.
"doll, it's not like that. it's not like that at all, i swear."
he walks over to her, and for some reason, she lets him place his hands over her shoulders.
"i only said that to protect you — to protect us." he explains, sighing when she rolls her eyes at him in disbelief.
"from what, james? what could me or we need protecting from?" she exclaims, tears filling her eyes.
she can't stop the hurt feelings she feels deep in her heart from what he had said to steve.
"baby..." he trails off, hating to see her hurting from this misunderstanding.
"what? what could you possibly say that could make this better?" she exclaims again.
he sighs, shutting his eyes for a straight second. "i wanted to protect our relationship from all of the judgement and the questions!" he suddenly yells, causing her to jump in surprise.
he flinches, trying to ignore what his yelling has caused her.
"look," he says, much more softly this time. "i know this is all still very new to us. and i want to protect us and this relationship before we announce it — we need to figure out what it is before we do that."
she's quiet, tears spilling as guilt fills her for overreacting.
before she can quite apologize or defend herself, bucky can practically read her mind.
"don't worry about it. it's okay." he murmurs, wrapping his arms around her.
she sighs shakily as she whispers, "i'm sorry."
"are we out of the woods yet? are we out of the woods yet? are we out of the woods yet? are we out of the woods?"
she can't breathe.
she can't breathe at all as she sees it.
the scene playing out in front of her — in front of everyone too — makes her sick to her stomach.
she swears she hears her own heart shatter into a million different pieces.
despite the tears blinding her vision, she doesn't hesitate as she says, "excuse me, guys. i have to go." and turns around to walk back up to her room.
how could he do this to her?
flirting with her best friend? did she mean nothing to him?
as soon as she's in her room, she slams the door shut and locks it.
and with that, she slides down the door and finally lets everything out with her hands covering her face.
"are we in the clear yet? are we in the clear yet? are we in the clear yet? in the clear yet, good. (are we out of the woods?)"
she'd been avoiding bucky ever since she saw that exchange between him and natasha in the kitchen.
they'd all been drinking and even if [y/n] didn't know it, it wasn't anything more than two friends joking around with each other.
but, even though she was great at dodging and avoiding bucky, one morning, after a particularly exhausting training session with steve, he was able to find and catch her before she could quite run away from him.
she grimaces when he grabs her wrist to prevent her from going any farther away from him.
"[y/n]." he calls, his voice filled with anguish.
"what?" she whispers, trying to ignore the tears that have already spilled down to her cheeks.
she doesn't turn around. not yet.
"doll, what's going on? why won't you speak to me and why have you been avoiding me?" he asks, his voice barely even a whisper.
"did i do something wrong?" he asks again, this time his voice small.
but, [y/n] forces herself not to dwell on it.
instead, she whips around, ripping her hand out of his gentle grip and pointing a finger at his chest. "you have a lot of nerve, you know that, james?" she exclaims, finally having had enough.
everyone around them watches cautiously, before steve nods for them to follow him out of the room.
they do.
and bucky and [y/n] don't speak until the room is quiet and empty.
"what are you talking about?" he asks again, only becoming more and more confused.
she scoffs. "are you that clueless, bucky?" she asks, shaking her head.
how could he not even know what he did?
when he doesn't answer once again, she rolls her eyes, suddenly sick of this heartache that's quickly been happening for her — for the both of them. "i'm sick of this, james. if you wanted to be with nat, you should've just told me and ended this before one of us got hurt."
bucky only becomes more confused. "natasha? what the hell does she have to do with this?"
"oh my god," she mutters, only becoming more and more irritated.
"bucky, i saw you with her the other night, okay? along with everyone else."
his face fills with realization as she continues, "i don't know what you were doing. maybe... you were trying to get everyone off of our backs. or maybe you just couldn't find a way to let me down gently."
tears fill his eyes at the thought of her thinking that he doesn't want to be with her or that there's something going on between him and her best friend.
"baby, i'm not interested in natasha." he simply states, hoping that he can fix this before he causes any more damage.
[y/n]'s eyebrows knit together, creating a crease in between them, and bucky wants so badly to fix it.
"then... why were you flirting with her?" she asks meekly, not quite sure what she's supposed to believe anymore.
he chuckles, running his hands through his hair. "we were just laughing and talking — we were drunk, but nothing like what you're thinking of happened."
she stops short, her heart stopping. "so, nothing really happened?"
"nothing happened." he confirms and she deflates.
tears fill her eyes as she glances down at the floor in clear embarrassment and regret. "oh, god. i'm an idiot."
he laughs, walking over to her to cup her face in his hands. "no, you're not. you're just scared. just like me. right?"
she wordlessly nods, still emotional and embarrassed.
he simply nods and pulls her into his side, hugging her with her arms wrapped around his torso and his chin resting on the top of her head.
"looking at it now. last december. (last december). we were built to fall apart. then fall back together. (back together)."
the screaming match happening in the middle of the living room has gotten so bad that the rest of the team has gone out for dinner.
what is this about, you ask?
well, in a way the cat's out of the bag.
you see, most of the team, including tony and natasha, walked into the kitchen, catching bucky and [y/n] sharing a few stolen kisses.
they'd finally found out about their relationship. and most of them were just shocked.
but, a few others were pretty judgmental and critical about it, like tony.
and thus, leading them to the fight that's happening right now.
"i don't get what the hell you wanted me to do!" bucky yells, raising his hands up in the air.
"oh my god. you can't be serious right now!" she yells back, shaking her head at him in disbelief.
"i am! what the fuck were you expecting?! i was trying to protect us." he screams, becoming too heated, which only sets [y/n] off more.
"first of all, i wanted you to defend me! maybe defend our relationship when tony insulted me and our relationship! and secondly, you weren't protecting us! you were just protecting yourself — just like before!"
he rolls his eyes and scoffs. "why are you always turning this into something it's not?! i've been trying to protect our relationship since the beginning!"
"oh really? because it sure as hell doesn't seem like it!" she yells, her tears finally falling.
"you know what? i'm done!" she exclaims, taking a deep breath as she turns to one of the couches to grab her things.
"this was just a big mistake. and i can't fucking take it anymore." she mutters, but bucky hears it perfectly.
panic fills him, just as much as the guilt fills him.
"wait, sweetheart. don't go." he calls out, walking up to her as she starts to walk over to the door that leads to the exit.
"why?" she whips around to face him, her face red from the screaming and crying and her voice is croaky from said-screaming.
"why, james? all this has caused is pain," she mutters now, looking away from him. "we've had more pain and drama than we've had any good moments or happiness."
his face softens. "doll, that's not true. and you know it."
"look," he murmurs, grabbing her chin with his forefinger and turning her face, so that she's looking at him. "i'm sorry for the yelling. and for not defending you — i was just stressed. but, that's no excuse."
"please, just give us a chance. i promise it'll be worth it."
[y/n] sighs quietly, thinking for a moment.
after a few minutes, she can't help but agree. "okay. one more try."
he smiles, before pulling her into his arms and chest, hoping for something better for them.
[y/n], however, hugs him back with a stressed and worried glint in her eyes. is all of this pain really worth it?
"ooh, your necklace hanging from my neck. the night we couldn't forget. when we decided, we decided. to move the furniture so we could dance. baby, like we stood a chance. two paper airplanes flying, flying, flying. and i remember thinking."
bucky can't help the fond smile that forms on his lips as he admires the way his dog tags hang around his girl's neck.
even without makeup and wearing one of his henley's and her own comfy pajama pants with a messy bun, he still thought she looked absolutely jaw-droppingly beautiful.
something was shifting between them and he knew in this exact moment.
but suddenly, he's shaken out of his daze when she suddenly pushes the furniture away from the floor, along with some of the tables.
"babydoll, what are you doing with that?" he asks with a raised eyebrow, his body growing warm at the excited smile and the giggles that leave her lips.
"we're going to dance, silly!" she says, as if it's completely obvious.
"whoa, whoa," he says as she walks over to him excitedly and he lifts his hands up in the air, to motion for her to stop her actions.
"i don't dance. and also, there's no music." he tries to reason with her, but she simply rolls her eyes at him and grabs his hands and pulls him towards her in the middle of the floor.
"yeah, right. steve's told me stories about how you'd take all of your hookups dancing! and there doesn't need to be music!"
bucky chuckles, moving closer to her.
he puts his hands on her hips and hers around his neck, him unknowingly and unconsciously already starting to dance with her.
"we both know that you're more than just a hookup. so, i guess you're worth my terrible and lack of dancing." he says teasingly, waggling his eyebrows at her.
she laughs, unclasping her hands and pulling them away from his neck to cover up her flaming, blushing face and hide it from him.
he smiles, slowly pulling them away to see her face. "darling, i want to say you're gorgeous face."
she flushes even more. "it's not! you're just saying that."
his face changes into something serious. "yeah, i am just saying that because it's true."
she groans and rolls her eyes as she places her hands back around his neck.
"fine! you win," she mumbles, but she then says quickly and defensively, "just this one time!" when he smirks in victory.
and true to his word, bucky doesn't dance very gracefully.
but, considering the stories she's heard about him in the forties — back before all of that super soldier and nazi stuff happened — she chooses to believe that he only danced clumsily and silly to make her laugh.
"are we out of the woods yet? are we out of the woods yet? are we out of the woods yet? are we out of the woods?"
she tries to ignore both the concerned and judgey looks her friends keep giving her.
she'd just told natasha and wanda the truth about her relationship with bucky.
and to say they haven't been completely supportive is a big understatement — it's not that they're bad friends and could care less, it's more about the fact that bucky's been known to break hearts and they worry that their friend will be caught in the crossfire.
"what?" she asks, her voice coming out small.
"are you sure you want to do this with him?" natasha asks, raising a single brow at her in question.
wanda nods in agreement. "yeah. are you absolutely sure that you wanna get into a relationship with him?"
[y/n] scoffs in disbelief. "are you kidding me right now?" she asks, seeing the confused looks they share as they look at each other.
"we just mean that he's not exactly known as a commitment type-of-guy." wanda says hesitantly.
natasha nods. "it's true — he's broken a lot of women's hearts."
"wow," [y/n] mutters in further disbelief. "neither of you have any right to judge. we've all done things we regret! and let's not forget all of the hearts you guys broke!" she exclaims in a whisper as she suddenly gets up from her seat at the kitchen's counter table and marches up the stairs to her bedroom.
"are we in the clear yet? are we in the clear yet? are we in the clear yet? are we in the clear yet, good."
bucky knocks on the door gently.
he hears quiet sniffles and then a shaky voice say, "come in."
he tries to mentally prepare himself for what drama could be on the other side of the door — he doesn't mean this as an insult, it's just that so many people have been causing them and their new and blossoming relationship extremely complicated for them.
as he opens the door, his face falls at the upset and red face of his girlfriend's.
shutting the door softly, he walks over to her.
it's quiet as he crawls over to the other side of the bed and pulls her into his arms.
"why don't they support us?" she cries, her feelings being a little too hurt from the conversation that she had with her best friends.
he sighs, holding her tight, with his chin over her head.
"i don't know." he says, really not knowing either.
"it's going to be alright, okay?" he murmurs as she buries her face into his chest, crying even harder.
"are we out of the woods yet? are we out of the woods yet? are we out of the woods yet? are we out of the woods?"
"buck, i'm not sure this is a good idea." steve states from the couch, nodding towards [y/n], who's standing alone in the kitchen; she's numbly opening a water bottle as her eyes catch the scene of wanda and natasha talking and laughing on the far side of the kitchen.
bucky sighs, his gaze softening, before he turns back to face his best friend.
"what are you trying to tell me, steve?" he asks, giving him a tense — but pointed — stare.
"no offense, but you can't ignore the way you are with women," he briefly expains, continuing on when bucky stares at him silently, daring him to go on, "you can't commit to her, buck!" he whisper-yells, not wanting to catch anyone's attention with their conversation.
bucky scoffs, shaking his head at his best friend's judgement. aren't your friends supposed to not judge you?
"i'm sorry, bucky," he says, stepping up to stand with him. "i'm not trying to gang up on you — i'm just worried about both of you. and i don't want [y/n] to get caught in the middle of it, with her heart broken."
bucky scoffs again and walks away.
"buck!" steve calls, feeling bad for the way he approached this situation.
"no!" he yells, cutting any other words he could say off and catching the attention of everyone else.
"are we in the clear yet? are we in the clear yet? are we in the clear yet? in the clear yet, good. (are we out of the woods?)"
"hey..." [y/n] murmurs softly, walking over to the open hall that leads to the living room and kitchen.
bucky sighs, that anger still bubbling inside of him.
"it's okay, james." she murmurs softly, moving to gently touch his flesh arm and rubbing it comfortingly.
bucky groans, some of that anger dimming down a little bit.
but then, he remembers the conversation between him and steve and that anger comes right back.
he clenches his jaw, staring at the wall behind her.
she notices this again.
"hey, look at me." she murmurs softly, now cupping his face.
he sighs and looks at her this time.
"what did he say?" she asks, bringing one of her hands up and into his hair, in order to calm him even more.
he doesn't answer her.
although, he asks her a different question, "do you think that i've hurt every woman i've come into contact with?"
[y/n]'s puzzled now, her eyebrows knitting together as she tilts her head in confusion.
"what do you mean?"
"do you think i'll hurt you?" he asks, his voice wavering in unexpected emotions.
"what? james, of course not. why are you asking me this?" she asks seriously, grabbing one of his hands from across his chest to hold it carefully — the metal one.
he tries to ignore the dread and worry filling him at her holding his metal hand.
"so, you're not worried?" he asks again.
"i mean, i'm scared. but that's because of my own issues. it's not because of you — i know you would never purposely hurt me." she says truthfully, moving her other hand to cup his face, smiling softly at the ticklish feeling of the growing scruff on his jaw.
"you promise?" he asks, tears filling his eyes.
"hey," she says, stepping even closer to him and this time, placing both of her hands over his cheeks. "it's okay. i promise."
"remember when you hit the brakes too soon? twenty stitches in a hospital room. when you started crying, baby, i did too. but when the sun came up, i was looking at you."
it all happened too fast.
since [y/n] and bucky have been inseparable — especially with their friends seeing that nothing could tear them apart now — tony and steve decided to pair them up in a simple mission.
all they needed to do was go to a recently revealed hydra base and get some files.
but, the plan didn't go right. in fact, it all went terribly wrong.
[y/n] was supposed to go into one of the rooms to copy their files off of one of the computers with the thumb drive she brought with them, while bucky stood and watched guard.
but, things just went horribly wrong when something drew him away from the door of the room she was in — he thought it would only be a second, just to make sure he could be on top of any sudden attacks.
but, turns out, it was quite a few hydra soldiers trying to distract him.
and before he knew it, by the time he made it back — after finally getting the upper hand on the enemy agents and knocking them out — he came back only to see the door of the room slightly ajar and everything too quiet.
panic filled him as he walked into the room, lightly pushing the door open.
his jaw dropped when he saw another agent standing over a weak [y/n] lying on the floor, who was holding her abdomen in clear pain.
shaky gasps left her lips as she kept pushing herself further and further away from the smirking man before her.
but, before he could even take a step further to cause her even more pain, bucky didn't hesitate; he stepped closer and faster and quickly drew out his gun and knocked him out on the back of the head.
a shocked and pained groan left his mouth, before his body dropped to the ground.
and with that, he had ran over to [y/n] to help her up, panicking much more as he had finally realized what happened.
now as she lies unconscious, bucky continues to let the racing thoughts consume his entire being.
he holds her hands in his own, his chair scooted to reach her bedside and his head leant over their connected hands.
a sharp intake of breath and a pained groan draws his attention away from his intrusive thoughts.
he snaps his head up, his eyes filling with tears.
"james? what's... what's going on? what happened?" she croaks out, trying to clear her throat of the dryness.
"baby... you were shot." he murmurs, his voice wavering in worry.
"but... did we get the files?" she asks, only one thing on her mind.
he laughs. "doll, you got shot and you're more concerned about the mission?"
she shrugs. "i just don't want to disappoint anyone."
"you're not." he says honestly, holding her hands tighter.
after a few moments of silence, bucky dips his head down to take a deep breath.
"i really thought i was going to lose you, back there." he mutters, tears spilling.
"james..." she says, sitting up so that she can grab his chin and lift it up gently.
"it's okay." she whispers, wiping away the tears.
"it's not." he says, crying for the first time since she woke up.
"i know." she murmurs, smiling softly at him. "but, i'm okay."
he sighs and nods.
"remember when we couldn't take the heat? i walked out, i said 'i'm setting you free'. but the monsters turned out to be just trees. when the sun came up you were looking at me."
she couldn't believe what was happening right now — she's couldn't believe what she was hearing.
how could he do this to her? now? after everything they've been through?
"are... are you serious right now?" she asks, barely even a whisper.
tears fill her eyes over him refusing to look her in the eyes.
"tell me you're not serious!" she exclaims, suddenly standing up.
he stays silent.
"no." she says to herself, in denial and refusing to believe any of this.
he finally turns to her, his face cold and unfamiliar to her. "yes, i'm serious. i can't do this anymore."
she gapes at him, the tears filling her eyes — she's absolutely speechless.
but, when he turns around and starts to walk over to her bedroom door — to walk out — she springs into action.
"no! don't walk away — don't walk away from us!" she yells, racing over to him to grab his flesh wrist and stopping him from walking any further.
although, she knows that he can easily leave and escape her shaking hand — being a strong super soldier, and all.
he scoffs, turning to face her a cold look in his eyes — she couldn't recognize the man standing in front of her.
"i am walking away. it's for the better," he mumbles, before saying his next choice of words, clearer as ever, "we. are. done."
he walks out and as he slams the door shut, [y/n] can only cry and sob with heaving breaths as she falls to the ground — she can't believe he's done this.
maybe everyone was right about them — about him — this entire time.
"you were looking at me, oh. you were looking at me. (are we out of the woods yet?) (are we out of the woods yet?) (are we out of the woods yet?) (are we out of the woods?)"
she was miserable.
and so was he — he was just better at hiding it.
[y/n]'s quiet at game night.
everyone's crowded in the living room and the room is filled with loud chatter.
bucky's talking with steve animatedly, as if they never argued about [y/n] before.
seeing this, [y/n] ignores the blinding tears that are pricking at her eyes and turns away from everyone else.
she tries to make it through the rest of the night, but she can't.
she's abrupt as she gets up from the couch, from being smushed in between natasha and wanda.
she doesn't say anything in excuse from her actions.
instead, she starts walking down the hall to her bedroom, the tears finally falling freely.
"i remember. (are we in the clear yet?) (are we in the clear yet?) oh, i remember."
it's quiet for a moment as everyone watches the empty hall — the one that [y/n] had just walked through.
then, natasha stands up and walks over to bucky with a look of pure anger on her face.
loud gasps and yells sound in the room as the black widow slaps him hard on the face.
bucky is shocked, but also not.
steve stands up to hold natasha back. "alright, nat. calm down."
she scoffs. "why should i? he's the one that broke her heart!" she yells, still very much angry and protective over her best friend.
everyone else watches with shocked faces, except for wanda, natasha, steve, and bucky.
wanda watches in silent anger — she feels just as angry and protective, she's just more calm and quiet about it.
natasha is still just as angry as she glares at bucky.
steve is both bewildered, but not shocked at all.
and bucky? well, he's just filled with so much guilt.
"look, i know you guys will never understand," he starts, his eyes cast on the ground. "but, i did to protect her."
wanda scoffs. "to protect her? by hurting her? what the hell is wrong with you, barnes?!" she exclaims, jumping up from her seat and having just about enough of this, to just stay quiet.
he sighs. "you don't get it." he mutters, already giving up.
besides, why should he try to convince them that it's not what they think, if they're already assuming the worst of him?
"then explain it, man!" steve suddenly says, shocking everyone in the room — steve's always been in bucky's corner.
but, what can he say? [y/n]'s always been his soft spot — she's like a sister to him and he'd do just about anything to protect her, even if it's from his best friend.
"i'm trying to protect her from me!" he yells suddenly, millions of different wild emotions crossing his face.
"buck, what do you mean?" steve asks, slowly walking over to him, upon seeing the exhausted and pained look on his face.
"i'm bad for her, alright? you guys were right," he says tightly, motioning to natasha and wanda. "i am a piece of shit when it comes to committing to women. and ever since steve and i talked, i couldn't get it out of my head — i knew deep down that i was only going to hurt her and i couldn't do it anymore."
"but, don't you care about her? don't you remember those good moments with her?" steve asks quietly and gently.
"it doesn't matter. the best thing i can do for her is walk away." he says, rolling his eyes at all of their reactions.
"why are you guys fucking shocked like this? you all have been unsupportive from the very beginning!" he yells, throwing his hands up in the air.
before anyone else can say anything to convince him otherwise, he pushes past them and walks to his own bedroom.
"are we in the clear yet? are we in the clear yet? are we in the clear yet? in the clear yet, good."
weeks have gone past, but for [y/n], it felt like so much longer.
things have only gotten worse for her — the heartache of bucky walking out on her and their relationship has really taken a toll on her.
even as the red-headed ex-assassin talks to her, it all goes over her head.
natasha's voice feels muffled and far away as she feels completely haunted by the memories of bucky.
a shake to her shoulder brings her out of her daze. "[y/n]!"
"huh? what?" she asks, her voice blank.
natasha gives her a pointed look. "i'm serious. you need to talk to bucky."
she scoffs at hearing these words. "why? he's made it perfectly clear that he doesn't give a shit about me." she mutters, pushing back the tears.
the red head shakes her head. "i'm serious. i think he might be just as miserable as you are." she says, trying to persuade her best friend.
[y/n] glares at her. "why do you even care? you've been against us from the very beginning!"
natasha simply shrugs. "well, now i'm not."
[y/n] rolls her eyes. "how is that even possible?"
"because i've seen the change." she briefly explains.
[y/n] refuses to let those words change anything for her. even if her heart flutters at the thought of him changing himself or his mind.
"are we out of the woods yet? are we out of the woods yet? are we out of the woods yet? are we out of the woods?"
another party. great. another event i have to pretend like i'm not completely miserable.
[y/n] couldn't help the bitter thought in her head.
but, it seemed that things were only going to get worse.
one minute, she was talking excitedly with wanda and natasha.
and the next? she's feeling her entire body freeze up with her heart stopping as she watches something happen that she should've been expecting to happen soon enough.
how could she expect him to not move on so fast, when it was so easy for him to leave their relationship?
[y/n] gulps, trying to blink away the tears as she watches some mysterious, gorgeous woman leaning into bucky's personal space with a big smile on her face.
as if sensing her eyes on them, both of them turn to look over at her; the mystery woman with confusion and curiosity, and bucky with guilt and something else she can't decipher.
she shakes her head, walking away — away from the man that shattered her heart and her two, confused best friends.
"are we in the clear yet? (yeah). are we in the clear yet? (yeah). are we in the clear yet? in the clear yet, good."
she wishes she could actually kill herself just about right now.
how did she have the bad luck, to run into him in the kitchen? let alone with just them by themselves?
she's been able to avoid him whenever they've been surrounded by their friends, but this is the first time since their big breakup fight that they're really alone with each other.
"sweetheart—" he starts to say, but she cuts him off, holding a hand up.
—"don't worry about it. we broke up — it was messy — but i don't want to talk about it, okay? i just want to move on."
although her words come out as a lie, bucky believes it and it just about kills him.
he swallows his pride and every urge that he has that makes him want to come crawling back to her and get her back. "i just wanted to, uh, apologize for everything — i want to move on as well."
half of her was expecting that he was going to prove what natasha had said about him, but let's just say, she's extremely let down.
she fakes a smile, nodding. "right."
"yeah, exactly."
they both lie through their teeth.
"are we out of the woods yet? are we out of the woods yet? are we out of the woods yet? are we out of the woods?"
everyone watches the two as they talk quietly.
but, despite the fact that they are on talking terms, everyone can see that it's not the same.
"this is weird." sam whispers to steve, watching them with an amused look on his face.
steve sighs, frowning. "yeah. it is."
natasha turns to face them, blocking their view of bucky and [y/n]. "i thought he was going to get her back!" she whispers as she glares at them.
steve sighs, sharing a look with sam.
"well, he was," steve says, before sam finishes for him, "but then, she was talking about moving on and it really just ruined everything."
"man, she has no idea how whipped he is for her." sam mutters, steve nodding along in agreement.
wanda chimes in, frowning, "this is so painful to watch."
she nods to them, all of them quickly taking notice of how when one of them looks away from the other, they give the other a longing, sad look.
with that, wanda groans quietly, before getting up and walking away.
despite the both of them acting all content, both bucky and [y/n] are hurting deeply on the inside.
"are we in the clear yet? are we in the clear yet? are we in the clear yet? in the clear yet, good."
things had shifted recently — between [y/n] and bucky.
everyone could see it. just... not them.
things were still tense and they both were still hurting, but it was sort of bearable now.
"how do they not know? seriously!" kate murmurs, watching the pair giggling and discussing a book they have in common in disbelief.
peter — just as appalled — nods and points to kate, whole heartedly agreeing.
tony raises his eyebrows in shock. "i have no idea."
the rest of the group continues to watch confusedly as the pair become even more cute, if that's even possible.
a lot of them, like tony, yelena, clint, and some other watch in disgust, while some others watch in fondness.
"are we out of the woods yet? are we out of the woods yet? are we out of the woods yet? are we out of the woods?"
bucky watches intensely, jaw clenching and his baby blue eyes turning cold.
he shouldn't have expected them to get back to their old selves, especially after what he put her through.
but, watching pietro and [y/n] practically flirting right before his eyes, it completely shatters his heart.
he thought walking out on her to protect her was the worst thing he ever had to do.
but no. seeing her with someone else — right in front of him — that's so much worse.
"for christ's sake! barnes, go over there and get your girl!" tony complains, rolling his eyes.
bucky doesn't move his eyes off of the woman in the room.
he hears her laugh at pietro, and it kills him.
"i can't. she doesn't want me back." the words are hard to say, but he says them.
"that's a load of bullshit, barnes," natasha says, rolling her eyes when he turns to her in disbelief. "anyone with eyes here can see that she's completely in love with you."
bucky sighs, turning back to look at her again. "no. she's not."
"are we in the clear yet? are we in the clear yet? are we in the clear yet? in the clear yet, good."
things were intense between bucky and [y/n], to say the least.
especially, after natasha marched over to her and pietro and pulled her to the side, and spilled how heartbroken and longing bucky was over her.
it must've been hours after that.
she left pietro to hang out with the rest of her friends, while she spent most of her time in her dark and quiet bedroom.
no matter what she tried to do — to distract herself — she just couldn't stop thinking about him.
knowing that he thought that she was moving on — that he thought that she didn't want him back anymore — it kept her up, all night.
even when everyone was asleep, she couldn't sleep.
so, instead, she walks out of her bedroom and down to the kitchen.
taking in a deep, shaky breath, she walks over to kitchen sink, trying her best to find a cup and the knob for the sink in the darkness.
although, before she can get her water, the kitchen light flicks on, flooding the room with brightness.
she whips around, only to find herself face-to-face with bucky.
"why are you up so early, doll?" he asks, trying to ignore how her eyes linger on his bare chest.
she looks away. "couldn't sleep."
when she looks back at him, and notices that longing gaze in his pretty blue eyes, she blurts it out, "i'm still in love with you."
he stops breathing for a split second. "what?" he utters in a mere whisper.
she takes in a deep breath, hoping to god that this is the right decision. "i... i can't keep this in any longer, james," she says as she puts her cup down on the counter and walks a little closer to him.
"i've been hiding this for so long. even in the beginning of our relationship, i knew that things had changed between us — and for the better. i knew exactly what i felt for you and it killed me when you walked out on me." she tries to say, her voice breaking as she recalls their messy breakup.
"sweetheart, i'm so sorry about that. i didn't mean—" he starts to apologize, but she cuts him off with a gentle voice, —"james, it's okay. i forgive you."
"how can you? i hurt you — exactly in the way that i hoped i wouldn't, like everyone was telling all of us." he interrupts her once more, the guilt absolutely consuming him.
she laughs, taking another step closer to him.
"because... i love you. i think i have from the moment we met." she says, tears in her eyes and giving him a happy smile.
"you saved me, bucky. i never thought i would find love again, but you showed me that i can."
he gulps nervously as she finally gets as close to him as she can.
"james, i'm so in love with you i can't breathe without you. and i can't be with anyone — not pietro, no one — unless it's you." she says, laughing with happiness as she cups his face in her hands.
his face fills with an insane amount of relief and shock. "are you serious? you're not messing with me?"
she shakes her head, now wrapping her hands around his neck, while his find their way to her hips.
"it's true, james. i love you — only you." she says with so much love in her voice, leaning her forehead over his.
he laughs, feeling both relief and the biggest amount of happiness and love he's ever felt before.
"i love you too, doll," he murmurs, closing his eyes and wrapping his arms around her body to pull her closer to him. "i could never stop loving you."
she smiles. "you promise?"
he nods, before his eyes glance down at her lips, hers following quickly after him.
they're both fighting the urge to take things too fast, so fast.
but, with her missing him so badly, she lets herself lose control.
"bucky?" she whispers breathlessly.
"yeah?" he asks, his voice raspy.
"would you kiss me already?" she asks, laughing when he nods with no hesitation.
without another second wasted, he connects their lips and pours everything into that kiss — her doing the same.
maybe even after all that drama and heartache, they made it — they found their way back to each other.
bucky pulls away — far too soon. "i am never leaving you again." he promises, holding her head in his hands.
she scoffs. "you better not."
"never again." he swears, pulling her back in, to appreciate that he has her back in his life and in his arms.
she giggles in excitement as he pulls away and wraps his arms around her waist, lifting her up into the air and spinning them around.
her arms wrap around his neck as her legs lift up into the air as he continues to spin them around.
"god, i love you." bucky murmurs, moving his head to kiss the side of her head when he sets her back down.
"i love you too, james buchanan barnes." she says with brutal honesty.

hi love <3 if ur taking requests rn, I was wondering if you could do another secret relationship w bucky. i love love love your two fanfics with that trope.
with this one, could be it be that the reader is the newest (and youngest) avenger, is basically liquid sunshine, everyone on the team adores her, they’re all overprotective (esp nat, steve, and tony), yada yada yada. but they don’t know that she’s been secretly seeing bucky since like the third week she’s started. and with bucky, he’s her first everything, and she just falls so much in love with him (i need the fluff after reading those angsty fics)
thank you, and if you decid not to write this, that’s completely fine! the other thing I ask is just to take care of yourself and have a great day.
18+
You may have guessed my weaknesses by now but secret relationships and getting caught has this unholy choke hold on me and I will never let it go (also I'm so sorry I took forever to get to this, I loved this so much)
Warnings: FLUFFFF a lil bit of angst, implied smut
"Bye y/n!"
“Be safe darling, call us if you need anything” Nat pressed a quick kiss to your head before boarding the jet.
“Don’t let Barnes bite” Tony murmured, only half jokingly. If Bucky even thought of laying a finger on you, all hell would break loose, no one touched the team’s precious baby. You were the youngest and newest avenger to join the team and every single person was extremely protective over you, Tony, Steve and Nat especially. You were sunshine in a bottle and they made sure they took care of you at all times.
That meant they’d whisk you away before missions got too risky. They’d fiercely fight anyone that tired to hurt you. That also meant  no one would ever get to break your heart because they’d screen any potential date you had. What they didn’t know was you had been dating Bucky from the third week you joined, which had been well over a year ago.
It didn’t take long for you to fall for the super solider, especially when he roamed around the compound at night and you were a complete night owl. Passing smiles became late night walks. Late night rides on his motor bike. Late night hugs. Cuddles. Kisses. Moans and messes between the sheets...
You couldn’t actually tell anyone about the relationship. The team would have had Bucky’s head served on a platter for going anywhere near you. It pained you because you loved Bucky and while the team was protective over you, you were more protective over him.
“It’ll be fine, you be careful though, okay?” Steve gave you a quick hug before following behind Nat, the team waving at you while you stood at the compound entrance. You waved back, watching the jet take off, your eyes growing wide when you felt someone behind you.
“Hey baby”
You yelped, feeling a thick pair of arms wrap around you, his beard tickling your skin as he buried his face into your neck “Do they know I bite you and kiss you and taste you and fuc-
“Oh my god James” You giggled, squealing when Bucky lifted you into his arms, peppering your face with kisses. “You couldn’t even wait 5 minutes for them to leave?”
“Nope” He smirked, happily carrying you over to his room, dropping you onto his bed before flopping on top of you. “Couldn’t waste another second to get you all to myself. Now I can bite my girl as much as I want wherever I want” You giggled feeling Bucky’s fingers tickle your waist while he playfully nipped your skin, holding you in place “And no one can do anything about it” He said triumphantly.
“You little perv” You narrowed your eyes at him, all clothes thrown off within seconds.
“Only a little perv for you doll”
“We can’t do anything Bucky, your still healing from the last mission” You rolled your eyes while he huffed dramatically, burying his face into your chest, hitching his leg over you.
“Fine. Naked cuddles?”
*****
“C’mon, let’s go, time for drinks”
The team had landed back from their mission with plans in place to go to the bar after reports were done. Tony was the first to head down, followed by the rest. You and Bucky sat on opposite ends of the couch without making eye contact, waiting for everyone to join before heading out.
Moments earlier in Bucky’s room
“And where do you think you’re going looking like that baby” Bucky caught your arm as you passed his room, quickly pulling you inside.
“Bucky, they’ll see us” You whispered warningly, your mind turning to mush as he pressed his body against yours, nipping your jawline.
“Can’t help it, I won’t get to kiss you all night” Bucky pouted, nuzzling into your neck. “I just want a kiss”
You giggle, cupping his face and pulling him down for a sweet kiss. You tried to pull away but Bucky chased your lips, claiming you again.
“Bubba, you said one kiss”
“Just one more”
“Noo, that was too short, one more?”
*intense puppy eyes*
“Please?”
10 kisses later
“Looks like that’s all of us, FRIDAY, tell Happy to pull the cars around” The team piled into a few cars; no one had the intention of driving when they all fully intended on drinking their body weight in alcohol.
The night was going smoothly. You sat in the booth with Nat and Wanda while the guys headed off to the bar to grab a few more drinks. You had a light buzz, doing your best to keep the goofy grin that kept trying to sneak on your face each time you turned back to see your beautiful boyfriend. All black outfit. His dark grey arm. The gold accents. His chestnut hair. Stubble. His blue eyes. Pink lips. Perfect nose. His eyes twinkled as he glanced over at you, a tiny smirk playing on his lips. A man passed Bucky, pausing in front of him. You could see the light from his face drop.
“Can’t believe they let people like you out”
You blinked. Surely you heard wrong.
“Honestly, who let him in here”
You didn’t.
Bucky swallowed thickly, frozen in place while Steve came to his side, placing himself between the two men.
“Do we have a problem here?”
“I think so, why the hell is the winter solider allowed to be out in public”
Tony and Sam made their way over but not quick enough. It took you less than three strides, shoving yourself in front of Steve, your hand itching to to grab the knife in your thigh holster.
“What the fuck did you say to him?” Your voice came out a growl through gritted teeth, daring the man to continue. He was only slightly taller than you, but that didn’t phase you, you had taken on worse.
“You heard me. What the fuck you gonna do about it princess” The man sneered, while Tony and Sam tried to intervene, but you weren’t having it. You grabbed the man by the throat, easily slamming his face against the wooden table of the bar, pressing his face onto the hard counter. You smirked that the tooth that had fallen out, your hands squeezing around his neck tighter the more he tried to pull away.
“You say that about him again” You hissed, holding the man in place while he continued to squirm. You were relentless, no one, absolutely no one spoke about your Bucky that way. “Don’t you fucking dare”
“Baby, let him go” Bucky called for you softly, his hands gently gripping your shoulders. You could feel the warmth of his hands melting onto your skin, reluctantly letting go of the man while he dropped to the floor, wheezing. Bucky carefully pulled you away towards him, his heart beating out of his chest because he had some how fallen even more in love with you.
“Are you okay bubba?” You cupped his face, while he gazed down at you with heart eyes, leaning into your touch.
“Why wouldn’t I be, I have my own little body guard looking out for me” Bucky whispered before pulling you in for a kiss, completely forgetting (although honestly not caring) that everyone was staring at you both. Steve had the man thrown out, joining the rest in the staring immediately after.
The team blinked wide eyed, everyone frozen in place. So many questions. First at their little sun shines out burst. You hardly swore let alone raised your voice. You’d once apologized for punching someone too hard. Now you were breaking teeth?
Why the fuck did you call Bucky bubba? He’s a 6′5 trained assassin. You hadn’t dated anyone since you arrived. Bucky and you never even spoke. Why was he looking at you like that. Now he called you baby?
“What the hell...”
You broke out of your trance with Bucky to see Steve, Nat and Tony staring you while Sam and Clint smirked. Tony was the first to speak up, motioning between you and Bucky.
“You want to explain this?”
“I love him and he’s mine” You stated matter of factly, wrapping your arms around Bucky protectively. “All mine”
Bucky couldn’t help but melt into your embrace, his arms hugging you tightly to him. He’d never had anyone love him so fiercely; other than Steve, no one had ever thought to protect him. He’d spent years protecting himself and then you came along. This little drop of sunshine that turned into fire when someone tried to hurt him.
“All yours huh?” Tony mused while you nodded, your face buried in Bucky’s chest. “Well he’s not special, he has to pass the screening if he wants to date you”
Steve snorted while Bucky looked at the team with wide eyes, their faces all dead serious.
“What, who said you get to date our baby without permission. Question 1 Barnes, what are your intentions with our y/n?”

James March x reader. The reader is very innocent like they don’t curse, drink, smoke, etc. James just adores it so much cuz it’s the opposite of him. He gives them random gifts and special dinners (maybe some slow dancing). As well as tons of affection like cheek and hand kisses, cuddles, holding hands, and helps you get ready for the day. He’s very overprotective and possessive of them like a kid who has a special teddy bear, so the other ghosts better watch their backs if they try to mess with the reader. He never lets them know he’s a serial killer but they know he’s a ghost.
Innocence
Tumblr media
Warnings: talk about murder just a bit but no warnings really, just a sweet fic again!
a/n: you didn’t really give me a plot andI wasn’t sure if you wanted lime a headcannon or not so I hope what I came up with works for you 😅 but with reader being innocent and almost too naive while JPM protects her and is possessive lol 🥹
You first met James when you had to find a hotel quick and one that didn’t cost your entire paychecks worth to stay in for a night. You were in the city for a last minute job interview the next day, and you were lucky enough to meet the owner of the Cortez who has offered you a deal to stay.
You were pretty blown away by his offer, having been at the lounge where you enjoyed a nice glass of lemon water before the man, who introduced himself as James Patrick March, approached you. After some visiting, and many odd but enjoyable questions from him later, he offered you the night for a discounted price of $15. You weren’t sure why, but didn’t dare object.
However, your original plan to call it a night by 8 PM soon turned to 11 PM, then next thing you knew it was 2 in the morning and James and yourself just couldn’t seem to pry away from each other. It was magnetizing being around the other, for both.
James was so beyond intrigued by you. He knew times had changed, and that modern day women weren’t as classy and “well kept” as they were in his day. But you were different, not at all like the females that trotted into the hotel, getting drunk or high and using such foul language with every word, wearing nothing more than a dress that barely covered them. No. You were the classy that James once adored and almost never saw again.
It drew him to you. Not just how you dressed or how you spoke, but your pure and complete innocence. It was something James wanted to protect, he wanted you to keep forever. And he’d make sure of it, if you let him of course.
Though he drank, he, on occasion, would use a foul word, and he had no innocence left in him — you were the opposite of him. And if it were a true myth, James believed it was love at first sight.
That night was the beginning of your most exciting, spoiled life; and that is said with confidence.
You had started returning to see James often, more and more often, until you practically lived there. You met many people, some you enjoyed, some you weren’t fond of. But it was many months later that James finally vowed his love to you, you returning the vow, and James filling you in on part of his secret.
You learned he was a ghost. And for someone like you, it didn’t take much convincing. However, you weren’t scared of him in the slightest. It did make you more cautious around the other ghosts and ghouls that forever took residency in the hotel, but never around James. And he promised himself he’d never allow you to find out of his dark side, the murder side of him. That was a side of him that he kept hidden away because he had found such joy through you that he almost didn’t need to feel the excitement of killing others by his own hands.
He knew someone like you would never be okay with murder. Especially if those who were innocent. And he didn’t expect you to ever change that part of you, so he simply never let you in on that secret side of him.
It was easy.
Besides Devils Night.
That was hard the first time you had been in the hotel during it. But, he was able to keep you preoccupied long enough with the help of Liz to get the night over with, where he expressed to the other monsters he guessed that you were completely and utterly off limits.
But the years spent together after that, Devils Night was never a concern. You never even caught on.
But the years spent with James were years he spoiled you rotten. He’d buy you anything you expressed interest in. He’d shower you in flowers. He’d run you a bath every night. He simply could not do enough for you to feel satisfied, because he was just that in love with you.
And though you were just as in love with him, he’d never allow you to go above and beyond for him the way he did for you. You would try, and he’d stop you. The most you were able to do for him was buy him his favorite cologne or alcohol, even when you had no idea about anything alcohol related. He loved the gesture, but never let you do much more.
You weren’t sure what you did to deserve someone like James. Needless to say, you never went to your job interview that first time staying in the hotel. And only a few months later, you basically lived in the hotel. Only some months after that, you stayed with James in his suite 24/7. At that point, you were his and he was yours. Even now, 6 years later.
You made it so easy for him, too. You never questioned anything. He was able to run three quarters of his life with you while using the other quarter to fulfill his murder tendencies and keep the hotel running accordingly. He even managed to keep you from meeting the countess, somehow. He had Liz and Sally to thank for that. He was aware of the mess that could bring, and he was in such a good place with you, wrapped around each others fingers.
That nearly came to an end.
“My love?” You entered the living area of your suite where James had been filling his cup with whatever alcohol he was drinking this time. He glanced at you and smiled brightly.
“Yes dear?” He sips while eyeing you so you’d know you had his full attention. You smiled, a half way smile, not your typical smile, and James immediately became concerned. “What is it? Are you alright?”
“I’m fine, James, really.. it’s just.. I had an encounter today. With—“
“Elizabeth.” James finished your sentence, noticeably unhappy by this. You only nodded, allowing him to explain himself. “Ah yes. The time has come that I must tell you about her.” He sighs, taking ahold of your hand gently and leading you to the couch where you allowed him to help you sit, he sitting beside you. “Listen, dear,” he pauses, seeming unsure of where to start.
“I’m not angry, James.” You reassured before he could start again. His eyes seemed to relax as they remained glued to yours. “I just want to know the story from you.”
“What all… did she say.. exactly?” He asked, genuinely curious. He didn’t care about much of anything she could possibly tell you, only if she were to have revealed his deepest secret about his love for murdering, or if she had threatened you at all.
“She only told me of her past with you. I’m unsure whether it was a warning? Like, her way of telling me I should run while I can?” You raised your eyebrow at him curiously before letting a smile take place on your lips. “Not that I would ever listen to such a silly suggestion. I love you too much.” You grabbed his hand this time, squeezing it. “I just had no idea you were ever married.”
James sighed but held your hand tightly, bringing it up to his lips and placing a soft kiss to your knuckles before setting and holding it against his chest.
“I was, yes. A long, long… long time ago. Elizabeth being the original owner of this hotel, we married and I took over. I showered her with all my love, I gave her everything. I thought she was my one and only.” James goes quiet as you tilt your head, letting him finish. “I know now how very wrong I was.” He met your eyes again with sincerity, squeezing your hands that he was still holding against his chest.
“So what happened?” You asked, curious to know more about him. James kept things hidden from you, you were aware of that. But you were much too in love to question him too much, and some things you knew better than to want to know, so you were okay with being kept in the dark. But since this was an opportunity to learn a little more about his past, you couldn’t help but indulge in it.
“She was only using me, dear. I was a means to fill a void that I wasn’t aware was empty and longing for a past lover. She loved my gifts and my attention. But had no interest in loving me like I did her. Later, her past lover showed up out of nowhere and she was planning to run away with him. After that, I no longer cared for her.”
“But, she’s still here? Why?”
James went silent, not sure how to fill this part of the story. He didn’t kill Rudolph or Natacha. But he did lock them in this hotel and remove the door so they’d have to spend eternity here… since they were already vampires and couldn’t die. James felt it was a nice revenge on his now ex-wife, she believes they re-abandoned her all over again. She loves her life in anger and wonder, and it’s so sweet for James to see.
“They left her. Abandoned her again.” He nodded. You frown, feeling somewhat sympathetic for Elizabeth. “Don’t frown for the woman!” James states, a deep frown on his own face. “She was a monster, dear. I know you’re not one to feel this way for anyone you know but, she got all she deserved.”
You gazed at him for a moment as you took in his words before sighing and taking your hands from hi, resting one hand on the side of his face. “I do love you, James. So very much.” James leans into your hand, his eyes closing as he takes in the feeling of your skin against his, your scent so strong and as intoxicating as the alcohol he sips daily. “You don’t have to feel anger anymore, though. You can let it go, all the hurt and betrayal that woman caused you. She is no longer worth your while. For your own happiness, you should let it go.”
James listened to you, knowing your words held so much truth. It amazes him at times, how a woman of your culture could be so intelligent, so mature past your young age. He was blessed beyond words.
“You’re right, dear. You are very right.” He takes ahold of and turns his face into your hand, kissing from your palm up the majority of your soft, fragile arm. You smiled in awe as you watched him, his eyes glancing up to meet yours. “You amaze be every day.”
“I’m glad to hear that. Because you keep me on my toes every day. Never can know just what to expect here, but I would never trade it for anything.”
