went to a monthly meetup for queer creatives for the first time!! it was way in the back of a cafe, where some older gays had booked a room for everyone to come and sit together and work on artsy projects - there were people knitting, painting, writing, doing comics, all kinds of things! lots of different skill levels too, which was really nice, brought a very good vibe and good energy.

I had a couple of friends with me, and got to meet so many lovely new people too ... it was so much fun seeing everyone’s projects. it was especially wonderful to see people who had just picked up a new hobby give it their best, I don’t think I would’ve had the guts to try something totally new in a public space like that. so cool to see !! inspiring even !!!!

will definitely try to make a habit of showing up to these meetups. going outside isn’t easy for me, but recently I’ve been feeling the urge to make an effort and I’m going to ride that train as far as it’ll take me.

Okay i like how they deal with Fizzarolli’s disability in the new Helluva Boss episode. When he told Blitzø he didn’t ruin his life and “it’s not like I’m broken or anything.” Him getting hurt in the fire wasn’t the end of his life- and while they acknowledge the pain and trauma that came with it it is still made clear that in the center he is the same person as before. Did it change things? Yes- but in the end he’s still a performer. Is Fizzy mad that Blitzø (accidentally kinda) blew him up? Yeah- but it seems to be less to do with “oh you injured me and ruined my life” and more “I thought we were friends but turns out I was wrong because you hurt me and left me and didn’t even visit.” It isn’t portrayed as much that blitzø caused fizzy to lose his limbs and ruined his life, but more bltizø (accidentally kinda) blew fizzy up and that fucking hurt. Fizzy even acknowledges that Blitzø DIDNT ruin his life.

Also for a show that deals with characters have powers and stuff- they didn’t lean too far into the “super” disabled stereotype where a disabled character has a fuck ton of power to “make up” for their disability. Like, yes Fizzy does have prosthetics but even then he’s a fucking terrible fighter (at least at the beginning) and they have limits. (Although sometimes the usage of “super powered” prosthetics can still be problematic as it creates an unrealistic idea that disabled people aren’t completely human.)

Beyond that, he also didn’t fall too far into the “helpless” disabled person stereotype- getting out is a team effort, they save each other. Blitzø seemed to do more of the heavy work but that’s canonically understandable because this falls into more his life of work. And in the end it’s not his able-bodied partner who saves him- Stolas and Ozzie both were unable to do much to help because they were tied up with legal stuff but in the end that’s not what they need at. And in the replacing prosthetic scene it is said that it’s not something he needs to apologize for. That scene doesn’t seem to read as “oh here is a prosthetic that I got you because you can’t provide for yourself” but more as someone bandaging up someone they love.

Are there still things that can probably be seen as problematic? Of course- as it is with most adult humor and especially any show with any kind of representation, but I just feel this episode takes step away from the old disability tropes shown in much other media. At least in the way it perceives disabled characters.

just a general scene and vague character breakdown/analysis!

i first of all want to admire the perfect representation of best friends to enemies with blitz & fizz because ugh.

And like Blitz tells everyone this but the way it's so malicious here. Just the perfect simple dig and Fizz's little shit eating grin because it delivered how he knew it would sdfkjsdkf. Shoves Blitz to the side because really that's all he cares to say. Fuck you and what you did to me, bye bye <3 Fizz is so for talking shit and dipping (House of Asmodeus) I love how messy it is but also shows how he really doesn't hold malice for Blitz otherwise. Obviously we see this front and center later in the episode once they start reconnecting, but I like the subtlety and how he's so willing to snap at Blitz despite his usual anxiety with confrontation.

Blitz also knowing exactly what to say to really piss Fizz off once things escalate <3

But Fizz keeps his composure. And if you'll let me be alarmingly gay for a second, I love how his version of keeping his cool as a messy gay is managing to basically recreate this drag race confrontation in what is probably my favorite set of Fizzie lines.

eat him up babes. also it's so important that that shitty coffee and fizz were on this side of the street for framing i'll talk about it more in a sec jfskjdfksf.

and now my personal favorite exchange of this entire scene that is criminally underrated imo:

love his face after this line. I SUPPORT DISABLED PEOPLES WRONGS sfjdlkfsdd. literally so fucking nasty with his clown wit but also so justifiable because yeah blitz did just pull this nightmare and dip in fizz's pov. i cannot wait for that to get touched on more likeeee why were they kept apart ugh.

Blitz does deserve a little violence maybe <3 Fizz underestimated his ass jjdkfsdlk.

Idk I just love how indicative this whole interaction is for their characters but especially Fizz, it's a perfect build-up for him. Fizz has major imposter syndrome with dual layers because of general haters but especially because of Mammon and Asmodeus. Not on any fault of Ozzie's,, we just see Fizz obviously thinks he isn't fully deserving of their relationship/his situation and the healthy dynamics of it and so do most major news outlets apparently askjfsk.

It'll be really interesting to see how his character develops in future episodes because I feel like a lot of what I've rambled about here has come to a resolution after 2 Minutes Notice in the musical special lmao. I really like how here when he goes to compose himself, this is how he does it.

Makes me wonder how many times him and Ozzie have had the self-worth and imposter syndrome conversation before it finally stuck in the Mammon Musical Special. I just love their relationship and how they compliment one another,, and how it projects into Fizz's other relationships because they're healthy for one another. Love my OTP love Blitz & especially love Fizzie. Obviously.

This performance made me cry. Along with the panic attack scene, it is one of the most beautiful and poignant scenes concerning the theme of disability.

To be honest, I find the scene with the boy extremely manipulative and inappropriate. It would look fine in some children's cartoon, but here it looks out of place in tone, and just once again tells us that Fizzy is actually a very nice guy. And to make the effect stronger, they specifically made it a disabled child, not an adult, because it’s easier to evoke sympathy from the viewer. And it doesn’t matter that children should not be present at such an event at all.

Yeah, it gets you in the heartstrings on that first viewing, but it's rubbed me the wrong way ever since -- mostly because of how blatantly it's meant to get you in the heartstrings, and how horrendously Spindlehorse has treated its real disabled employees.

Once again, I'm critical of Helluva Boss, but the latest episode has proven again that A) it's capable of improving and B) Fizzaroli and Asmodeus are the best and most well-written characters on the show.

They carried the episode, and Blitz's presence is more enjoyable when understated, a little of him goes a long way.

We got actual, respectful disability rep in that really heartwarming scene with Fizzie, an amputee himself, communicating in sign language with his deaf fan (i am still pissed abour the r-slur in the pilot but it's good to know they're capable of not treating disabilities like a joke)

Mammon isn't super interesting, but he is fun, which seems to be his purpose. The "women aren't funny" gag was funny. His character design is pretty good, big step up from the last deadly sin. Not a fan of Bee's personally. Too much going on.

Ozzy solidifies his place as the best character on the show.

Once again, Vivzie seems to be parodying and reconstructing her own humor style. The fact that a song who's most repeated lyrics are "fuck you" in a Vivziepop project is actually a bop???? Subverted my expectations, thumbs up.

I also like that Fizzie is explicity uncomfortable with being sexualized so heavily. Celebs irl are expected to be ok with being nothing but a sex object, but a lot of them despise it. Plus, being forced to publicly endorse that kind of stuff, like Fizz being forced to literally sell sex dolls made in his image, is traumatic.

Back to Mammon, I like how the fact that he has a fat bodytype isn't tied to his villainy. He's an evil, greedy dickhead and a huge creep, who happens to be fat. These aspects are not connected. He's also explicity fatphobic to Fizzie, who despite being pencil-thin, is visibly distressed. I do hope we get explicity "heroic" (this is Helluva Boss after all) fat/plus size characters in the future, though.

I hope further improvement continues, and I wish the same for Hazbin Hotel.

(Name) sat at the table, her little sister was having her birthday party at the pizzaplex. She was busy downing fizzy faz and eating all the odd shape pizza. (Name) look at the crowd. She wanted to go up and play the games but could not bring herself to. So she sat. That is when Chica and Roxy came over. They had been watching you, and you did not even notice.

"Hello!" Chica chirps. "What is a cutie like you doing all alone here?"

Instantly (Name) blushed and tried to sink into the floor. Oh NO! "I-I-I w-wan-want t-to be al-alone." She struggled to get out, her stutter bad.

"Well, that will not do, Superstar!" Roxy says and takes (Name) hand, pulling her up. "Me and Chica are going to show you the best time!"

"N-No th-th-that is o-ok!" (Name) stutters out, but the two female animatronics did not listen and take (Name) to the dance floor. Dancing with her in a way that made the poor adult seem overwhelmed.

Next, they take her and have dinner with her. Before she knows it, it was closing.

"Shit!" She cursed. "I have to g-"

Suddenly she felt a sharp hit to the back of her head, and she drops to the ground Like a sack of potatoes.

"Do not worry, chickadee, you will be safe with us!" Chica says.

"Yes, you are ours, after all!" Roxy says and picks (Name) up.

They led her to their rooms. Where the bounds and gagged her. She will understand their love soon enough.

Sun with Overwhelmed Daycare Assistant Reader

It’s been a long week. You just want to go home and get in your pajamas and watch some cartoons, but you have to work. Besides, you’re working with kids! What better job could you ask for? Still, it’s tiring.

You’re leaning against the wall of the daycare, and a little boy comes up to you, crying. “Oh, are you okay? What’s wrong, Jordan?”

Jordan, between his sobs, tells you that one of the other kids took his toy and wouldn’t let him have it back. You internally sigh, but outwardly shake your head. “Well, that’s no good! Do you know where they are?”

He nods, sniffling and rubbing his eyes with one hand, and turns to point at the play structure just across from the two of you. You smile, “Okay buddy, do you want to come with me? I’m going to get your toy back.”

He nods, and so you grab his hand gently, and the two of you walk over to the play structure. From here, you can already see the offender, toy still in hand. “Louise! Come down here please!”

She looks down, and upon seeing you with Jordan, shakes her head and yells, “No!”. Sticking out her tongue in the process. “Don’t make me get Mr. Sun over here!” You say, putting on a stern look and giving her your best warning stare. She tugs at the side of her mouth and sticks her tongue out in defiance, and you resort to the dreaded Fizzy Faz method that all of the kids seem to hate.

“Louise, come down here now, or no more Fizzy Faz for two days!” The kids around Louise, formerly giggling, gasp in horror, and Louise’s face is the toddler equivalent of ‘just ate a lemon’.

“Fine! Stupid Jordan…” she mutters as she climbs down to meet you. “And don’t forget the toy!’ You shout, making her grumble some more. You wait patiently as she walks forward, refusing to look you in the eyes. “Louise, I believe you have something that belongs to Jordan,” you say, leveling her with a slightly stern look. She grumbles, and walks over to Jordan, shoving it into his hands roughly. “And what do we say to Jordan, Louise?” You prompt the girl. Begrudgingly, she says, “Sorry, Jordan, for taking your stupid toy.” That’s not the response you would’ve liked, but you’re too tired to care. Jordan seems okay with it too. “Okay, you can leave Louise, naptime’s almost here anyway.”

Louise leaves, and Jordan thanks you for getting his toy back, hugging you before scampering off. Just in time, the lights go out. You hear Moon start the daycare’s nap time routine, and feel yourself slipping. You crawl into the play structure, pressing forward until you find a secluded, enclosed spot. You can’t hold on anymore.

You’re going to be fired, you know it, there’s no way your boss will be okay with you having such an episode during work hours. You just wanna go home and color and eat nuggies, it’s not fair.

It’s too dark, you can barely see outside of your spot in the play structure. You flap your hands, and continue crying. You have no idea how long it stays dark for, until suddenly, the lights start to slowly brighten. It’s too bright. Your feet start to kick.

You can hear Sunny in the distance, but you can’t make out what he’s saying. You startle as he calls your name, and start to cry harder. When you hear a thud, you panic. He’s trying to find you. You can’t let him find you, you’ll lose your job, you can’t lose this job, nonononononono-

“Y/N? Friend? Are you in here?” You hear Sunny call. You gasp, and quickly cover your mouth with your hands, harshly, you have to be quiet. But you can’t stop crying, he’ll hear you, stop crying, stop stopstopstop-

“Y/N? Are you-” he stops. NonononononononononononONONONONO-

“Y/N! It’s okay!” He suddenly grabs your shoulders, you can’t look at him, you can’t let him see.

Sun pauses for a moment. Oh. Oh friend, why did you feel the need to hide this from them? There’s nothing to be ashamed of, they’d help you, make sure you were happy, you didn’t have to hide- but never mind that. He has to help you.

He withdraws his hands from your shoulders, and takes your hands in his. “Hey, it’s okay, everything’s okay, you’re fine Y/N…” he cooes gently.

You slowly calm down, sniffling, and he slowly reaches out, and hugs you. “You’re okay, you’re safe here, no one will judge you.”

You start to doze off, tired from all the crying. Sun gently picks you up, and maneuvers out of the play structure, attaching their hook and flying up to their room. He sets you down on the blankets, and covers you up. He hesitates a moment, before leaving to take care of the kids.

I hope this was satisfactory! I started to run out of steam towards the end. I really enjoyed writing this!

Mugman also has anger management, Cuphead is bordering PTSD DISABILITY, Fizzy has OCD tendencies AND PLENTY MORE. THESE POOR ADULTS MAN.

Champagne specifically, has financial trauma and C-PTSD from being in poverty for so long.

She kind of had to steal and work little jobs as a kid- to feed her and Fizzy. They were in poverty since Fizzy was a baby, and she took a caretaker role when she was 6. Champagne grew up too fast-- so she has some-- inner-child healing to do-

It's not really important so I never got to mention it. But the reason why Fizzy and Champagne were in poverty was because their mom- kind of abandoned them- for a wealthy man- and the wealthy man did not like children. They were already struggling at that point- so mom kinda just, left to get milk- so there are some mommy issues there too- but honestly it could still work without this part.

I CAN RAMBLE ALL ABOUT HER PSYCHOLOGY SO IMMA STOP HERE, BUT TRUST ME WHEN I SAY THAT I'VE ALREADY THOUGHT OUT ALL 4 OF THEM AND THEIR PSYCHOLOGICAL WELL BEING
