Microsoft is putting its foot down when it comes to unauthorized controller use. The company has begun banning any third-party Xbox controllers and accessories that aren't part of the "designed for Xbox" hardware partner program.

Wow, what a great move, microsoft... I bet all the disabled people out there who rely on custom-made third-party controllers will just looooove this change...
Or the fighting game community who like to custom build their own fighting pads...
Or the hardcore racing game players who build custom steering wheel setups and whatnot...
Or just the people who can't afford to dish out $70 for an "official" controller.
Or pretty much anyone who doesn't use one of your controllers for whatever reason...
Well anyway, in conclusion:
Go fuck yourself, Microsoft

i'm sorry.. what?
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia Municipal Court is resuming evictions as early as Monday, saying landlord tenant officers have now received training on use of force and de-escalation tactics.
landlord.. tenant.. officers?
"Though the sheriff has the power to serve evictions, the task is usually handled by a private force hired by a court-appointed attorney known as the landlord-tenant officer. These private security contractors — who are often armed — have long been a part of the local eviction system."
so landlords have their own private military? this is class warfare
This follows the court suspending all evictions in July after multiple tenants were shot during evictions over the past several months. In one incident in March, a plainclothes landlord tenant officer shot a woman in the head. In another incident in July, police said a woman was shot in the leg. A spokesperson for the court's Landlord and Tenant Office said evictions will now be conducted in teams of two officers who have all received Pennsylvania Constable training.
this is LITERALLY class warfare
The LTO is funded by service fees from landlords and not taxpayer money. Fees to landlords will increase from $145 to $350 to cover the additional staff, training and insurance costs.
and who the fuck do you think is going to end up ultimately paying those fees in the end? where do you think the landlords are going to get the money? you're just giving them an excuse to raise the rent. oh my god this country is a complete and total failed state.

The funniest parts about Tumblr, Reddit, and Twitter all collapsing is they all had to undo ONE decision, and it would've prevented it all.
If Tumblr had gone back, or even just lessened, its porn ban. It could still be in the top 10 sites, worldwide.
If Reddit had reversed its API decision, it wouldn't be struggling with a volatile, unsellable user base.
If Twitter had just not changed ANYTHING. If Musk had just LEFT THE SITE ALONE, it would've begun pulling a profit within a few years, and would've been bringing in enough revenue to keep the site alive until then.
But that didn't happen. These sites were making power hungry moves and chasing the money of advertisers to make up for it. However, each one of them forgot one very important thing:
A sanitized, unpopular website upsets it previous users. Upset users flee a site, leaving angry, volatile individuals behind. Angry, volatile users aren't marketable. Without marketable users, the site has no marketable value. And without marketable value, no advertisers are gonna give you money.

"vote with your wallet!" "All they care about is profit." "go after their wallets where it hurts!" "New boycott list dropped!" "we want to make them care" "calling doesn't work so expose them to donors!" "email them to let them know you'll stop buying-" "if they won't listen we won't pay taxes!"

ID: A cropped screenshot from Ingram Spark showing various distribution regions. The highlighted ones are the US and the UK. The price shows 17.99 with a red exclamation mark next to it.
The next drop-down box prompts the author to set the wholesale discount to 55% trade, noting that this is the "retailer preference."
The author compensation, aka the amount the author will get paid for their work after wholesale discount and printing costs have been taken out of the $17.99 price tag, is shown as 0.61 cents in the US and 0.04 pence in the UK.
----
So this is a thing that I saw today when I logged into Ingram to confirm some metadata.
They used to list "retailer preference" at 40%, which is what they have made into their new wholesale distribution standard. You will not be able to distribute your books for global wholesale anymore after October 30th if you don't have your rates sent to 40%.
I don't doubt retailers would prefer if we sold to them at 55%. But considering myself and several others already have doubts over whether or not Ingram is actually showing our discounts to retailers (they've been caught showing mine as 5% even though they've been listed at 35% for three years), I'm just sort of sitting here, well, I can't accuse them of fraud, but let's just say I am not not thinking it.
Also, just a fun little tidbit, I tried to use my old ISBNs with d2d which legally I am allowed to do. They are mine. I own them. Anyway, d2d sent me a warning about how it would require me to work with them and Ingram Spark over several weeks to transfer the ISBN, and ahaha. Hahahahaha.
I'd say, "How do we think this is going to turn out?" But I think we all know.
We know.

So a company called California Forever has apparently spent almost a billion dollars buying up 50,000 acres of land to build a techno-utopia. It's founded by the absurdly rich people involved in the creation of LinkedIn, GitHub, and more. they claim to have a strong, clear vision for what this environmentally friendly, liveable, walkable city will be. This is their concept art.

Notice something about it? Let's have a closer look at some sections of these.

Trees growing out of roofs. Paths and gardens that don't physically work. People blending into mush. Inhuman anatomy. Impossible architecture.
It's fucking AI generated.
These genius billionaires are spending their genius billions on a planned society and they couldn't even be bothered to hire an actual concept artist to draw something that looks physically possible, let alone something that represents an actual plan. They just threw some prompts into a random pixel generator.
These are our John Galts.

Maybe instead of complaining about the ADHD and ASD diagnosis rates, we need to make peace with the idea that “Neurodiversity” may actually, in fact, describe the majority of human beings because “Neurotypical” is a word that really only describes those who thrive in a capitalist society, which is very, very few individuals.
