PLEASE DO NOT TAG AS YOUR OWN OC OR PAIRING.
Nathan and Ruben share a bond more powerful than most; mutual understanding through past experiences no one should ever have to go through, and through past actions so horrible they cannot be spoken of. Their grief and the blood on their hands binds them to the STEM technology they created, which has alienated them from the rest of the world— but they give each other the comfort they have both longed for so desperately for years, and that is all they need. They are each other's counterpart; you cannot imagine one without the other, like two sides of the same coin. Through their pain, their grief, their desire, and their regret, they have become one.

Is AI Killing Traditional Coding?
In recent years, the rise of artificial intelligence (AI) has sparked a debate among tech enthusiasts, developers, and futurists: Is coding as we know it dying? With AI’s ability to write, debug, and even improve code, many are questioning whether traditional programming skills will soon become obsolete. But is this really the case, or is the relationship between AI and coding more nuanced? Let’s…

Before the War: My Life as a Programmer
Tumblr media
Before the war, my life was filled with lines of code, problem-solving, and creative thinking. I was a programmer—building web and mobile apps, writing backend systems in C# and ASP.NET. My days were spent developing projects, learning new technologies, and growing in my career. It wasn’t always easy, but I loved what I did. My work gave me purpose, and my future felt full of possibility.
Now: Life in War
Tumblr media
Now, my reality has drastically changed. I live under constant threat, in a war zone, with my family. The sound of explosions has replaced the hum of my computer. Each day is a struggle for survival, filled with fear, grief, and uncertainty.
I have lost loved ones—my cousins, my aunt, and her children. And I have lost my job, my sense of security, and the dreams I once had as a programmer. The war took away my work, but more than that, it has taken away the life I knew.
Hope for the Future
Tumblr media
But despite it all, I hold on to hope. Hope that one day, I will return to the work I love. Hope that one day, my family and I can live in peace. Like anyone else in the world, we deserve to feel safe, to dream again, and to rebuild what was lost.

As I venture throughout the internet, I collect a folder of websites / posts that really interest me. These are sites that I revisit every so often. I find these posts or websites to be some of the most interesting collections of work that anyone can read. The folder that I have in my Obsidian Vault is called Wonderful Web, and I think that works perfectly as the name for this series, so say 👋 to Wonderful Web Wednesday - 1!
I hope you all enjoy reading as much as I like finding these sites!
Forth - Dave Gauer
This is an absolutely amazing talk that Dave Gauer gave about the Forth programming language. Forth is a programming language created by Chuck Moore, a mad wizard of programming. This talk is an adventure through what makes Forth a special language, and it also highlights a lot of different (admittedly complicated for me to understand) parts of computing. If you are interested in esoteric programming languages, I highly recommend reading Dave's talk!
The talk is provided in two versions: the webpage and the slides version. The first time I saw this talk, I stumbled upon the slides version. I really liked reading it in the slides format; I felt like I was following along with a story being told by Dave. That being said, if you are using a screen reader, the webpage version is probably significantly better. Both contain the same content, so grab whichever you prefer (I recommend the slides)!
Slide Version: https://ratfactor.com/forth/forth_talk_2023.html Website Version: https://ratfactor.com/forth/the_programming_language_that_writes_itself.html
Making JSON.parse() fast - Radek Pietruszewski
This relatively short (compared to the Forth talk) post is packed with really interesting adventures into optimizing JavaScript's JSON.parse() function. The article goes into a lot of detail about how Radek optimized almost every part of JSON.parse() by using SIMD instructions for actually parsing the JSON along with converting from UTF-8 to UTF-16.
Even though Radek goes into a lot of detail about the individual optimizations and the low level functions he used, the post continues to be very readable. You can see where Radek's ideas start from and where the optimizations are coming from. I really enjoyed how Radek presented his whole process through a series of step, it really allowed me to follow along with everything that
This is a super good read, especially if you are interested in the low level implementations of functions we work with every day.

Ending Thoughts
If you enjoyed this post make sure to subscribe to my RSS Feed so that you get updates when the next Wonderful Web Wednesday is out!
I am @TaylorLineman on Mastodon and would love to hear your thoughts about the start of this series. If you have any websites you would like me to check out and post about, send them my way!
Alright, that is all for now! Goodbye, Travelers 👋

Secrets of the Clow, Part I: Card System Foundations
Whether you are inspired to emulate Sakura Kinomoto’s journey as a Cardcaptor or you are purely interested in exploring magical systems and techniques, there are few experiences more fruitful than deciding to create your own tarot or oracle deck.
With all of the planning, associations, and other considerations that go into developing something like a tarot deck, it is easy to feel overwhelmed. Hopefully this series of posts will elucidate the foundations of creating a card-based divinatory system and help you determine how you want to organize your own!
This post is part of my Magi Praxis series. If you have any suggestions for future topics, or you have attempted anything I have shared and want you share your experiences, please send me a message! I am always happy to go back and provide further explanation as well. ☆
Tumblr media
The first thing to consider when building a card system is determining now you ultimately want to use it. Some questions you can ask yourself are:
⭒ What card systems do I gravitate towards? (ex. Tarot, Lenormand, oracle decks, etc.) ⭒ What divination systems am I comfortable using? (Even if they’re not card-based! Many times you can utilize other divinatory methods, such as using a pendulum or curios, with cards for nuanced results.) ⭒ How many cards do I want in my deck?
There is no right answer to any of these questions—it is purely a matter of preference and functionality—but once you have an idea of what you want, do some research! Look at decks you like using or that you are drawn to and take note of how they are organized. Does it follow a traditional or established canon or does it offer an original approach?
Many Tarot decks use the qabalistic Tree of Life (derived from the Jewish mystical teachings of the Kabbalah by Western occultists and esotericists) at least as a framework for the Fool’s Journey emulated in the Major Arcana. If you’re looking for a plug-and-play method of organization, this is a respectable avenue to that end. Alternatively, you can check out the work my partner has done on @covn if you want a less syncretic system to build off of. (While it looks similar to qabalah on the surface, the tree referenced throughout the blog was created out of series of mathematical emanations that just happens to look similar to the sefirot!) I highly recommend his work, and have used it in my own practice and in my personal deck creation as a meta-paradigm to work from, but it is not necessarily beginner friendly.
A potential downside of deciding to tackle the Tarot is that a standard deck has 78 cards—that’s a lot of work for one person to take on! For reference, my deck consists of 42 cards and that still took a long time to develop! While I will go into how my deck is organized in a follow-up post, I tend to describe it as Lenormand Plus™. Lenormand decks typically consist of 36 cards, which is definitely more realistic of a project for most practitioners to handle on their own. A quick web search yields many beginner-friendly introductions to the traditional associations and reading techniques, if this is something you’re considering!
If you’re seeking a more intuitive approach, many oracle decks throw traditional frameworks out the window and work more like curios or magpie oracles. These divinatory systems have roots in various folk traditions and consist of various small items that are collected by the practitioner and are cast on a surface for reading; each item has specific associations, sometimes only known to the practitioner, and can be interpreted by itself and/or in conjunction with where it falls in relation to other items. When creating a deck with this mindset, there is no map holding you back—you are free to include whatever you deem appropriate. And while this may seem like the simplest approach on the surface, I can say from experience that you can easily want to add in too many cards in order to feel like you’re ‘covering all the bases’. (I made a curio deck as an experiment several years ago and I quickly had over 100 cards! They were fun to read but the amount of cards was kind of unwieldy and were awkward to shuffle, etc.)
Once you feel comfortable moving forward with a plan to guide your decisions, it’s time to start figuring out what you want to include in your deck! In the next part of this series, I’ll use my deck as an example of how I looked at Sakura Kinomoto’s Sakura and Clear Cards for inspiration and used the C-ov-N system to decide what to include and how!

Populating New Pleasantview
The Caldwells Victoria and Charles were high school sweethearts. When Victoria became pregnant at 17, their parents rushed them down the aisle, sealing a future neither was ready for. Sixteen years later, they appear to be the perfect family—living in a beautiful home, surrounded by wealth and status. Behind the perfectly curated photos that Victoria posts on her blog lies a web of secrets, simmering resentment, and hidden identities.
Charles Caldwell (The Emotionally Distant Husband) Charles is old money. His parents—wealthy, traditional, and image-obsessed—demanded Charles and Victoria marry to preserve the Caldwell name and legacy. He’s since lived a life sculpted by obligation rather than love. Over the years, Charles has remained with Victoria not out of passion, but out of a quiet sense of responsibility. He’s a decent father, a steady provider, and a man who keeps secrets close to the chest—especially his own. He never really had the chance to really figure himself out once he got married. He's only ever done what he was told. Beneath the pressed collars and tailored suits is a man deeply hollowed by restraint. He’s quiet, contemplative, and perhaps even melancholic—someone who watches his life play out like a film he never wanted to star in.
Victoria Caldwell (The Polished Illusionist) Victoria grew up middle class, married into wealth, and never looked back. She hasn't had to work a day in her life. Though she is always showing off her perfect life and perfect family on her blog, Victoria never quite forgave her daughter Piper for the life she lost. Her daughter became a mirror of everything she used to be. Now in her mid 30s, Victoria clings to her looks and status, still chasing the validation she got in her youth.
She suspects Charles is having affairs—she sees the way her husband watches Ethan Ford and the parades of women he entertains. She chalks it up to jealousy, longing, maybe even desire. But Victoria isn’t concerned with who he sleeps with—only that nobody in town ever finds out. Reputation, after all, is everything. Victoria’s world is built on surface-level perfection, and she’ll do anything to keep it intact—even if the foundation has long since crumbled.
Piper Caldwell (The Perfect Mother?) The daughter of a high-strung socialite and a distant father, Piper grew up learning that love is conditional and appearances are everything. Her mother, Victoria, never quite forgave her for derailing her youth and dreams. As a result, Piper was raised more as a burden than a daughter—clothed in designer dresses, but starved for affection. She’s beautiful, bold, and unbothered. Rumors of an affair with a much older guy swirled around her school. The story's foggy, the fallout was quiet, but her name was definitely on people’s lips and she hasn't been too nice to anyone since. Her wildness isn’t rooted in confidence—it’s a form of rebellion, a desperate need to be noticed, chosen, loved. Piper will never admit it, but a small part of her wishes her mom would just hug her without criticism attached.
Oliver Caldwell (The Boy With a Silver Spoon & Silver Tongue) Oliver learned quickly that a smile got him what he wanted. That crying could open doors. That adults underestimate kids. He watched, listened, and studied. Unlike his sister, Oliver didn’t rebel—he observed. He learned how to play innocent and lovable, all while carefully pulling strings behind the scenes. With Victoria, he plays the doting son. She spoils him senseless—because in him, she sees redemption. He knows how to play her like a violin. With Charles, he’s respectful and quiet, mimicking the parts of his father that seem to get him the most praise. But under all that? There’s a cold calculation brewing. Oliver isn't evil in a cartoonish way—he's intelligent, observant, and slowly developing a moral compass that veers disturbingly off-course.

Site Update - 2/9/2024
Tumblr media
Hi Pillowfolks!
Today is the day. Post Queueing & Scheduling is finally here for everyone. Hooray! As always we will be monitoring closely for any unexpected bugs so please let us know if you run into any.
Tumblr media
New Features/Improvements
✨ *NEW* Queue & Schedule - One of the most highly requested features has finally arrived at Pillowfort. Users can now effortlessly Queue or Schedule a post for a future time.
Queue helps keep your Pillowfort active by staggering posts over a period of hours or days. Just go to your Settings page to set your queue interval and time period.
How to add a post to your queue:
While creating a new post or editing a draft, click on the clock icon to the right of the “Publish” button and choose “Queue.” Then click “Queue” when you’re ready to submit the post.
Schedule assigns a post a specific publishing time in the future (based on your timezone you’ve selected in Account Settings). How to schedule a post:
While creating a new post or editing a draft, click on the clock icon to the right of “Publish” and choose “Schedule.” Enter the time you wish to publish your post, click on “Submit” and then click “Schedule.”
How to review your queued & scheduled posts:
On the web, your Queue is available in the user sidebar located on the left side of the screen underneath “Posts.” (On mobile devices, click on the three line icon located on the upper left of your screen to access your user sidebar.)
Note: the “Queue” button will only display if you have one or more queued or scheduled posts.
A CAVEAT: It is not currently possible to queue or schedule posts to Communities. We do intend to add this feature in the future, but during development it was determined that enabling queueing & scheduling to Communities would require additional workflow and use case requirements that would extend development time when this project has already been delayed, and so it was decided to release queue & scheduling for blogs only at the present time. We will add the ability to queue & schedule to Communities soon after the Pillowfort PWA (our next major development project) is complete.
✨ End of Year Fundraiser Reward Badges: End of Year Fundraiser Rewards Badges will begin to be distributed today. We'll update everyone when distribution is done.
Tumblr media
✨ End of Year Fundraiser Reward Frames: As a special thank you to our community for helping keep Pillowfort online we have released two very special (and cozy!) Avatar Frames for all users.
As for the remaining End of Year Fundraiser Rewards - we will be asking the Community for feedback on the upcoming Light Mode soon.
Tumblr media
✨ Valentine’s Day Avatar Frame: A new Valentine’s Day inspired frame is now available!
✨ Valentine’s Day Premium Frames: Alternate colors of the Valentine’s Day frame are available to Pillowfort Premium subscribers.
Tumblr media
✨ Site FAQ Update - Our Site FAQ has received a revamp.
Terms of Service Update
As of today (February 9th), we are updating our Terms of Service to prohibit the following content:
Images created through the use of generative AI programs such as Stable Diffusion, Midjourney, and Dall-E.
An explanation of how this policy will be enforced and what exactly that means for you is available here: https://www.pillowfort.social/posts/4317673
Thank you again for your continued support. Other previously mentioned updates (such as the Pillowfort Premium Price increase, Multi Account Management, PWA, and more) will be coming down the pipeline soon. As always, stay tuned for updates.
Best, Staff

stay true to principle//make a break with the artist-tribe
i miss drawing, i should draw something again. drawing is simply fun. and it gives you a specific way of looking at and engaging with the world. i hope we all keep drawing. I don't see any sign we're going to stop, tbh.
copyright must be abolished
3. it's almost inevitable that my illustrations have been included in web scrape training datasets so honestly playing with the barn door at this point is a bit silly, the horse is in another country
that said, if you do wanna use my drawings, renders, writing or anything else (e.g. pixiv, @canmom-art, itch.io) to finetune a model or use it for image to image generation or some other AI thing and make something specifically based on them? I've come to round to the feeling that my answer is just basically go for it - please credit my contribution if it's significant, and show me what you make, exactly the same as if you did a fanart or cutout poem or collage, it's cool to play a part in someone else's project!!
tbh I'll probably help you do it if you ask, I've been planning to finetune an LLM on my blog at some point regardless.
how this is all gonna interact with copyright law is still quite unclear, but if it turns out to be relevant, then by default I release everything I'm the sole author of under CC-BY-SA-NC 4.0 International. [considering dropping that NC so it can be used on projects like Wikimedia, talk to me if that is a problem for your use case].
you may question whether that will plausibly be enforced and if I'm just farting into the wind with those stipulations - but like, hopefully that's fair to request and not too onerous. we can agree that expanding the volume of creative commons works is a good thing? and develop good habits for the post-copyright future? let's keep the viral license spreading

💫 Join the Fediverse! 💫
Greetings, fellow bloggers! We welcome you to join us in discovering, honoring, and promoting the potential future of social networking—commonly referred to as the "Fediverse."
The Fediverse, or Federation Universe, refers to a collective of online platforms that utilize the web protocol known as ActivityPub, which has set a standard of excellence in regards to both protecting and respecting users' online privacies.
There's a good chance in the past few years that you've caught wind of the fedi family's critically acclaimed Mastodon; however, there are many other unique platforms worth your consideration...
✨ Where To Begin?
Conveniently enough, from the minds of brilliant independent developers, there already likely exists a Fediverse equivalent to your favorite socials. Whether it's an opinion from the critics, or from the community alike—the following popular websites are commonly associated with one another:
Friendica 🐰 = Facebook Mastodon 🐘 = Twitter Pixelfed 🐼 = Instagram PeerTube 🐙 = YouTube Lemmy 🐭 = Reddit
It's worth mentioning, too, a few other sites and forks thereof that are worthy counterparts, which be: Pleroma 🦊 & Misskey 🐱, microblogs also similar to Twitter/Mastodon. Funkwhale 🐋 is a self-hosting audio streamer, which pays homage to the once-popular GrooveShark. For power users, Hubzilla 🐨 makes a great choice (alongside Friendica) when choosing macroblogging alternatives.
✨ To Be Clear...
To address the technicalities: aside from the "definitive" Fediverse clients, we will also be incorporating any platforms that utilize ActivityPub-adjacent protocols as well. These include, but are not limited to: diaspora*; AT Protocol (Bluesky 🦋); Nostr; OStatus; Matrix; Zot; etc. We will NOT be incorporating any decentralized sites that are either questionably or proven to be unethical. (AKA: Gab has been exiled.)
✨ Why Your Privacy Matters
You may ask yourself, as we once did, "Why does protecting my online privacy truly matter?" While it may seem innocent enough on the surface, would it change your mind that it's been officially shared by former corporate media employees that data is more valuable than money to these companies? Outside of the ethical concerns surrounding these concepts, there are many other reasons why protecting your data is critical, be it: security breaches which jeopardize your financial info and risk identity theft; continuing to feed algorithms which use psychological manipulation in attempts to sell you products; the risk of spyware hacking your webcams and microphones when you least expect it; amongst countless other possibilities that can and do happen to individuals on a constant basis. We wish it could all just be written off as a conspiracy... but, with a little research, you'll swiftly realize the validity of these claims are not to be ignored any longer. The solution? Taking the decentralized route.
✨ Our Mission For This Blog
Our mission for establishing this blog includes 3 core elements:
To serve as a hub which anybody can access in order to assist themselves in either: becoming a part of the Fediverse, gaining the resources/knowledge to convince others to do the very same, and providing updates on anything Fedi-related.
We are determined to do anything within our power to prevent what the future of the Internet could become if active social users continue tossing away their data, all while technologies are advancing at faster rates with each passing year. Basically we'd prefer not to live in a cyber-Dystopia at all costs.
Tumblr (Automattic) has expressed interest in switching their servers over to ActivityPub after Musk's acquisition of then-Twitter, and are officially in the transitional process of making this happen for all of us. We're hoping our collective efforts may at some point be recognized by @staff, which in turn will encourage their efforts and stand by their decision.

Okay, I've Read Worm: A Retrospective Part 4: Let's Give Wildbow Some Fucking Well-Earned Praise
So, I've had a decent number of harsh words for Wildbow over the course of my liveblog, and also over on my main blog. Overall, most of them are about his WoGs or Ward, rather than Worm itself. I've also commented I don't think I'd enjoy talking to him (not that he's likely to ever reach out, but you know). But I've had some complaints about Worm too.
But the thing is, I did read Worm. I read the whole thing. A desire to write fanfic would not have kept me going through all 30 chapters if I hated it. Or even if I just thought it was like, mediocre. It's 1.6 Million words. I am not that kind of masochist.
Life is short, Worm is long, if I wasn't enjoying it, I'd have left a long time ago. So I did enjoy it.
And the thing is, even if I never pick up his other works (and I do intend to try some), I am no doubt going to have more harsh words for Wildbow in the future. And I have no doubt that even if I love say, Pact or Pale or Claw or Seek or... I dunno, his next Web Serial after Seek called *throws a dart at a wall* Iota, I'm sure I'll have harsh words. I can't think of a single creator of anything that I don't have at least some issues with something they put out.
And to be fair, even most people who fully like Worm and Ward tend to have some harsh words for him now and then, or at least negative ones.
BUT, I liked Worm. And so, I think it's fair to really sit down and give him some unalloyed, unambiguous praise.
Tumblr media
The Pace of Output: This is probably low-hanging fruit, but it is genuinely impressive that Wildbow wrote Worm as quickly as he did, sticking to a schedule as consistently as he did. I am in awe. I think even if I didn't have to work at all, and was able to write all the time, I wouldn't even be able to match half of what he did in the same amount of time, in terms of output. Wildbow accomplished something that is genuinely amazing here.
The Shards, Entities and Powers: Shard mechanics are not my favorite thing about Worm. But the whole thing really does come together well. It's a pretty cohesive, pretty well directed power system to tell the story he wanted to tell. I don't consume much cape fiction, so I don't know what stuff beyond Marvel and DC are really like in terms of how powers work and how they all fit and service the story, but for Worm, the Shards work to tell the story he wants to tell, really well. I read and write mostly fantasy and sci-fi, and spend a lot of time in worldbuilding spaces dedicated to both, or have at least, and a lot of would be writers fall into the trap of trying to overdevelop the magic system or the rules for whatever crazy supertech their story has without really stopping to figure out how it fits for the story they want. That's generally not a great approach if the intent is to have a story, and not just a cool setting or a fun magic concept. Wildbow created a pretty cool system, and then managed to avoid the common trap of getting so attached to the power system and it's rules that it interfered with telling the story he wanted to tell. Instead, he built and bent the system with his story as the driving purpose, and kept it all cohesively working within that framework.
The Interludes: The Interludes are without a doubt some of the best shit in Worm, overall. The way he is able to convey so much about these characters in these cutaway scenes and expand the world and advance the story and develop ongoing themes and narratives? Nearly every Interlude is doing like, 4 things at once, I swear to got, and the way he juggles that all together is awesome, and the end result is great. I will never go back and reread all of Worm from start to finish. But I will sure as shit go back and read some of the interludes just for the sheer fun of it. The way these cutaways manage to get you inside the head of these people, see their perspective is really good, takes real skill to make you go 'I really kinda see Saint's POV here' for his Interlude, for instance. Really good.
Amy Dallon: So like, I think it's clear I love Amy. She's fascinating. I have big feelings about her, and she's a divisive as fuck character. But Amy Dallon is the most fascinating character in Worm for me personally and she's genuinely one of the most fascinating characters in anything I've read. I'll have more to say about Amy if I manage to get a version of that Amy retrospective I'm happy with written, but unironically? Wildbow, thank you for writing Amy Dallon. I bitch about how much she's taken over my brain, but Amy is such a fascinating, interesting, enjoyable and engrossing character that she has been a net positive for me. Reading Worm and reading about her has enriched my life. Thank you. You did a damn good job with her in Worm, Wildbow.
Taylor Hebert: As I said back in Part 1 of this retrospective, I was worried I'd find Taylor insufferable. Her capacity for self-rationalization should be an issue for me. It often can be in other characters. But Wildbow managed to write Taylor amazingly. He created a character who is multifaceted, multilayered, complex, nuanced and yet, pretty simple. She's intensely relatable, and yet, she is also deeply, deeply alien and abnormal. She does absolutely insane shit, and yet, when you're reading along with her POV, so much of what she does and thinks makes her seem like the only sane woman in the room. Even when you take a step back and realize what she does, she's very hard to not like. Even if you want to grab her by the shoulders and shake some sense into her, you like her. She's great. She's an everywoman, she's no woman. She's clever and stupid and brilliant and unimaginative all at once. She is... She's Taylor Hebert. She's an antihero, a villain protagonist, a hero hero and... she's just some fucking girl.
Heroes/Villains: What I mean by this bulletpoint is - villain protagonists, making villainous characters sympathetic - that's easy enough to do. And making the 'official heroes' of a setting not really as great as they might seem is also fairly easy to do. But it is hard to pair the two together as well as Wildbow did. The Undersiders do a lot of bad things (I would disagree with people who say they're all *fundamentally* bad people - even Regent... ish, kinda sorta. He's so fucked up due to his background that calling him fundamentally bad is probably not really accurate. Though some people draw red lines around some of what he did, so that's more subjective. But like, the key thing is that he did that while *also* still making them pretty sympathetic without like... running protag-centered morality and still making them have done quite a bit of good (and a ton of bad) AND the handling of the heroes. Because it really does look a lot like he's doing a bit where the 'official heroes' are the real bad guys of the story between things like Armsmaster's shit and Interlude 2, but he also doesn't actually do that. And he executes it in a way that is really well done, without doing the thing where the narrative acts like someone is evil but like... the person isn't.
This isn't really an exhaustive list of 'everything Worm did well' or even 'Everything I liked about Worm', but it is stuff that Wildbow did really fucking well, that I really liked or am impressed with, and that he deserves unalloyed praise for.
There are reasons why I kept reading Worm, and those are some of the reasons.
(There could also be a point on how he manages the readers' information diet, but it's really hard to say for sure if it's something that I really liked because I came in so thoroughly spoiled. From what I can see, I think I would have liked it and given it the unalloyed praise normally, but it's impossible to say because I knew what 75% of these clues were ahead of time).
Mr. Bow - you did a lot of shit I don't like. But holy motherfucking shit, you did some goddamn amazing stuff too.

Created with who is quite possibly the best co-writer of all time, the Chrysalis exists as a personal project of @ohagiwrites and mine. It has slowly been put through many different developments for just over a year now, and as of the time I’m writing this, it’s officially made it through its first arc. The story is one I’m proud to say I’m very pleased with, and hopefully one that you, the reader, will learn to enjoy too.
With a large cast of diverse characters and an intricately designed dystopian universe, this modern-fantasy thriller web novel is, at its core, all about growth. With a myriad of storylines all connecting throughout grief, humanity, and breaking out of the learned nature of those around us, the story blends its fantastical, superhero premise with real, emotionally-driven storylines on identity, queerness, and broken relationships.
With themes of grief, oppression, corruption, brotherhood, freedom, vengeance, control, war, fascism, monstrosity, and loss of innocence surrounding the whole story, it truly encapsulates the feeling of growing up in such a complex and terrifying time.
If any of these things are of any interest to you, feel free to go and give a follow to @chrysalis-thestateofchange, the official blog for the project!! There @/ohagiwrites and I do our best to keep up posting brand new chapters within each arc, as well as give light to the universe inside the story with lore and worldbuilding posts, and character introductions.
We also post things like future fics, character explorations, drawings, and et cetera on our main blogs, so look out for that as well.
Thank you to everyone who shares our work, whether that be likes, reblogs, comments, fanart or et cetera. We’re so fortunate to have such lovely fans around for the ride ☕︎

The tagging system for Chrysalis is pretty simple and straightforward. For pretty much every post about the story, I’ll have it under #story tag -> chrysalis. That helps to differentiate from my other wips.
But for specific things, like certain characters, you can find them tagged under #oc: [name].
And as for things like certain character rants or in-depth essays about certain aspects of the story, you can find that under the CHRYSALIS RAMBLES tag.

As for a taglist, I have a post right HERE you can click on to join!! But if that doesn’t work for you, my DMs, asks, and comments are always open for requests to be added.

Welcome!
Hello new friends!
I am an Orthodox Jewish woman in my mid-30s and I love writing, but just never seem to get around to doing it consistently. I'm hoping that starting this project here will incentivize me to write more and share the stories that are always being developed in my head.
Each story will have its own blog so you can read straight through on one page, but I will also share the updates for each of story to this blog so you can keep up to date with new additions and chapters.
This post will remain pinned to this blog and I will update it with the links to each blog as the stories develop.
Also, please comment on each post with your ideas and opinions! I do have thoughts for where the stories will go, but as they are being developed, there are still so many possibilities and directions, and I would love to incorporate things you guys would like to see/read!
(And don't be afraid to point out inconsistencies and typos, because those will help me become a better writer, but please be nice about it!)
Happy reading!
❤️ The Kosher Serial
Feel free to support these projects here: https://buymeacoffee.com/thekosherserial

Hi. I don’t want to be coy anymore actually I’m on my hands and knees begging you check out my partner and I’s cybertext project. It’s still pretty early stages, there’s a lot of stuff that’s still in development with it, but if you liked any aspect of Archivistbot other than it being TMA, you might like it. The storytelling mode of Archivistbot informed a lot of my work on it, in a lot of ways it’s a spiritual successor as it’s a similar format but will be more expansive and my own original work. :•) It’s just this blog right now, but in the future there will be a neocities page… Think abot meets early 2000s web…
Ok thanks bye.

So hey this is @aisakalegacy! I discovered your blog a while ago when @danjaley rebloged your tale telling post, but I didn't really start reading it before yesterday. I read gen 1-2 + 3 on the web version and caught up with everything that's on tumblr this morning. I'm French, i understand English just fine, so I just used the browser translation to English (the French one is sloppy) and it was completely understandable, it's just that your whole writing style disappears to leave only the meaning, unfortunately (if that makes sense?)
So, just as promised, writing you what I thought from memory here. This is going to go all over the place... I really like how diverse each character arc is and how you build everyone's personality. Like, for instance, the fact that Jaeda started as a werewolf but became a witch through sheer obsession with the supernatural - which is an ark that resonates with me a lot since we're currently planning something like that for one specific character's futur ark in the story I'm writing with @selidren. That's a trope/idea I find entertaining, and I really liked finding it here! I do like the pace you have - kinda slow, taking a lot of time to develop stuff. The whole gen 1 was kinda "amateur", as you warned, but overall it really shows how you've bettered yourself at storytelling / taking screenshots / modding your game / etc., and it really didn't bother me.
On the contrary I wasn't too fond of the early gen 2 (and by that I mean: from the moment Bianca leaves home), especially of the Bianca fake bimbo ark which was kinda frustrating sometimes. I don't know why, because of the "mean girl" vibe maybe? But at the same time it was nice to see her grow and it makes her relationship with Bree more than deserved - like, let my girl get PEACE at last. Love Fuschia, love how she grows up, wish to see more of her!
Gen 3 => love it. Love the characters, it's also much darker than what it was before. A little too graphic for me and my PTSD sex-wise, so I just skip those parts (which is why the PEGI 13 tumblr version's great for me lol). Basically, the characters feel much more real in this ark. The pictures you take are gorgeous, Flo/Finn are definitely my favorite ark so far (not because I read them last, but because they are more in depth!).
So yeah, keep up the good work!
♥♥♥ I hope you're okay with me answering this publicly, otherwise I'll delete asap!
Yes, gen 1 was indeed "amateur". I've written quite "scened" stories in the past, as it is what I urge towards, but there is always part of me that wants to be a "normal" sims player doing oldschool legacies. The problem is, the moment I have a sim or family I care enough about to actually play with them for a very long time, stories start developing! In this case it started with Bianca being born, as I could imagine some sort of enemy-sisters arch between her and Alice. It ended up differently, and I would've done things differently in yet another way in retrospect (developing all the gen 2'ers a lot more!), but it gave way to gen 3 and my darling Floflo ofc ♥
I also wish to see more of Fuchsia, however ridiculous it sounds since I decide after all, but any writer (however serious) can agree that despite you "controlling" them, sometimes things... just don't go a certain way? I look at every reason to implement her more, and will likely do so more once my focus heavily shifts to Gabi as I want Gabi and Gisele to be very close. There is also the in-game reason of her always being out to somewhere 🙄
You can likely tell that I slowed down the story a lot - A LOT A LOT. Since chapter 22, which was march in the year flo and finn become 29 and gabriella 7, about 1 year and 3 months have passed - that's 1 year and 3 months spread over 14 chapters lol. In early gen 3 I was still torn between "trying to do a legacy with some story or hardcore story", and my lifespan was normal, so a lot of things were very rushed with little time to develop things, such as Flo's genderexploration, which I plan to re-explore better in the future with some flashbacks. After they got back from Isla Paradiso (so chapter 22) and me wanting to develop them properly, I decided, F a normal legacy, let's do a very slow realistic lifespan. My sims live for about 2000 days now which gives me much more space for the little characterbuilding moments (and yes, also the graphic sex scenes)
I purposefully do tumblr much more PG, in one part due to tumblr rules, also so there is a safer version. There are whole scenes/minichapters/parts of chapter I only post on weebly. In fact, I am working on a poseset for a tiny chapter that will be weebly-exclusive as it is the comeuppance scene of a certain very bad character and things are gonna be wild, because he deserves it.
I still use google translate, btw, just not as literally as with those dutch-only chapters. To make sure dutch and english versions align well I google translate the dutch version to english and then alter it, getting out mistakes, badly translated expressions, making it refit my prose better. It saves a lot of time compared to rewriting the english version from scratch, especially with a lot of sentences being completely fine google-translated. Some scenes are in my head in advance in english and others in dutch so I occasionally do it the other way around too, it varies a lot (I am functionally almost bilingual)
Anyway, seriously thank you for the effort! When I saw all the likes I went oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooh omg!!!!! And if you have any other questions or comments (or feedback!), I don't mind them!
