He's totally helping Zagreus out of his own goodwill and not because his boon gets him to sneak an alternate up to Olympus. Nuh uh

I've been playing RPGs my entire life, and I find it very interesting that for BG3 specifically, I see a lot of people say that Tav/Durge is always a self-insert/representation of you.
Of course, we've all played a self-insert character before (and it is a valid way to play) but half of the fun for me personally is RPing a character. Coming up with a backstory and personality. These traits will be the driving factor behind the decisions they make in the game, not my IRL views.
That's not to say my personal experiences aren't influencing my characters, because they are. But I'm not playing me in the game.
I wonder if that is why in the BG3 fandom I've seen so much discourse around certain choices?
No wonder people are fighting about Ascending vs Spawn Astarion because they believe that if you Ascend him you are making that decision based on your real-life views. After all, your character is a representation of you! (Btw, I'm not saying all outcomes are good for the in-game characters, I believe there are bad vs good endings)
I find it very fascinating. It's like the concept of role-playing in an RPG doesn't even cross their mind.
I have also never seen so many self-insert/second POV fics before!! Even in Elder Scrolls fandom where I've read so many fics and the character is also a blank slate like Tav.

Suffering from writer’s block so I decided to weaponize my current obsession with DREDGE and turned one of the aberrations into a dragon. Specifically the Gnashing Perch (picture related).
Have this horrible, horrible creature.
This strange aquatic dragon looks somewhat beautiful from behind. Its mostly orange-red body is adorned with bright red fins torn from what looks like natural wear and tear, and the webbing between its fingers and toes is similarly tattered. Vestigial wings emerge from its back, useless for swimming but providing stability in the water. Then it turns its head to look at you, the once graceful appearance shattered in but an instant. Where there should be eyes, a nose and a mouth, there sits a massive set of jaws lined with disturbingly human-like teeth. The skin around its head appears to have been peeled off by an outside force, with no signs of even a skull where the head sits.
Its movements both in water and on land are spastic and clumsy, as if the creature was only just beginning to learn how to effectively move. Its main method of finding prey is through sensing vibrations in both air and water. It is vicious, even going as far as to devour whole trees. Its breath weapon, if you can really call it a weapon, takes the form of harmless sea foam that intermittently drips out of its mouth, sometimes in great clumps. The activation of its breath weapon seems involuntary and appears painful to the creature itself.
