DD/PM'S PLAYLIST OF VOCALOID SONGS ! (2023)

Hi! So, I have been in this side of the internet for a long while, and on the request of one of my mutuals, I've made what I call THE Vocaloid playlist (In my opinion!!)

This is separated in two categories; CLASSICS that everyone should/does know, and BANGERS, that for some reason or another didn't make the classics.

There are some additional categories that I've added, those being: weird songs I really like in some way or another, and songs that are technically UTAU or derivatives.

They are also separated by language and grouped by producers (and credited, hopefully all correctly) but there is no general order to them - important noting here as well that some of the producers might nowadays not be the best people around, but I didn't take that into account.

Please enjoy this!! I put a lot of effort, so I'd love to see any opinions or additions!

I dunno how I'm always late for reviexing eurovision entries (some I check out immidiatly, but others...... God I'm so late)

Thoughts (in no particular order)

Check this post for Ireland, Norway, Belgium, Albania, Slovenia, Spain, Ukraine.

Finland : Käärijä - Cha Cha Cha. I'm in tears. It's so good. What a lad. By far one of my fav this year. The charisma. The dancers. The colors. CHACHACHA. It's about getting drunk af. An absolute athem.

Czech Republic : Vesna - My Sister's Crown. Oh yeah, it's good. Did I ever mention how much I love trad sounds? Especially the white voice singing and harmonies? (yes, I did). It's a bit underwhelming at the verses, but the chorus is f i n e.

France : La Zarra - Evidemment. I can't deny that her voice is great, and huh..... she gorgeous. Not a fan of the dance elements, but, well, it's fine. VERY FRENCH THO. I what can I say? I don't like the majority of french pop. But she can sing.

Italy : Marco Mengoni - Due Vite. Why does everybody love it? It's boring? He's a good singer, no questions there, but... it's a ballad. Don't get me wrong, some ballad are great. Just not this one. The weakest italian entries in years if you ask me.

Serbia : Luke Blake - Samo Mi Se Spava. wtf it's great. I'm loving how much of what my friends calls "berliner night club" vibe we're getting this year.

Netherlands : Mia Nikolai & Dion Cooper - Burning Daylight. I'm pretty sure this one will grow on me, esp if they have a good stage presence (sing w/ your guts and you're good). But pretty underwhelming.

Croatia : Let 3 - Mama ŠČ!. Big fan of whaterver is gooing here. Dunno what's they're sniffing , but I want some. Do I love the song? No. But I'm glad it's there. (kinda catchy tho) Hope they go to finals

Moldova : Pasha Parfeni - Soarele si Luna. I'm crying. The esc Gods have listened to me. There is SO MUCH trad techno this year. I'm ascending. Alvan & Ahez would be so proud. I'm sure are. The fluuuuuuuuuuuuuuute T-T

Australia : Voyager - Promise. Yeah, I like it! It's good! I hope they'll hgave a good live performance!

Poland: Blanka - Solo. Oh no. No, this one is not good. She's off key. It's bland af. Pass. Jann was JUST THERE.

Estonia : Alika - Bridges. Well, there's a ballad I can get under. Not really my jam, but it's good.

Germany : Lord of the Lost - Blood and Glitter. Can't believe Germany finally decided to stop being lame. I'm proud of you guys. You're a good neighbour once in a while.

Cyprus : Andrew Lambrou - Break a Broken Heart. Side note : what a title. Also, can Cyprus do anything aside from pop? Like, they're good a it, but still... Nothing special here, move on.

Denmark : Reily - Breaking My Heart. Side note : heh, title. This one kinda pisses me off, bcause I don't like It, but also.... I'm vibbing to it?????

Iceland : Diljà - Power. Heh. I guess it's fine.

Malta : The Busker - Dance (Our Own Party). I'm so weak to sax solos, I'm almost ashamed. So yeah, I like it :) They have this Lake Malawi kind of charm.

Lithuania : Monika Linkyté - Stay. Guys........ I'm really triying to make an effort here, but why your ballads have to be so generic?

San Marino. Piqued Jacks - Like An Animal. Welp, this has potential.

Latvia. Sudden Lights - Aijà. I really want to like this one, but the live version is just underwhelming. The studio version slaps, tho.

Romania : Theodor Andrei - D.G.T (Off and On). I'm not sure. It's good, but also it's meh. It lacks a littke something, but I like it I think.

I'm impressed, we're actually getting a really good year! I can't wait to pressure my friends into watching the final with me!

Also, I'm loving the national langages this year!

- Dasher, A.K.A Marcus Keay. Younger brother of Gerard Keay. Lingers around the Magnus Institute, more specifically the archives, but he isn't employed there. The nickname 'Dasher' came from Tim at some point before him, Sasha, Jon, and Martin were all transferred to the archives.

Slenderverse

- Lee Marchetti. Childhood friend of Tim who grew up in the same children hospitals and institutes. Lee followed Tim when he went to college where they met Brian, Alex, Jay, Seth, Amy, Sarah, and Jessica. During the series, Lee sticks with Tim, even having his own 'masked state' with a mask that looks vaguely like an owl, and tends to stick with Tim and Brian during those times somewhere up high on trees or rooftops.

- Alecks Myers, younger brother of Evan. Alecks is trans, ftm. Much like Evan, Alecks is inhabited by a snake like creature that calls itself 'Viper', a snake in every sense of the word. Alecks tends to be very protective of his friends, especially his brother growing up and during the early events of emh.

Trench / SAI / Clancy

- Arlyn Andrews (Echo), a citizen of Reisdro. A Bandito of the FPE underground within Dema who never seems to stay in Trench for long for one reason or another. He tends to stay to help others escape the city, though even he isn't sure if that's the reason he stays in Dema. He has a few friends both in and out of city. Athem, Zeik, and Zed are Banditos, close friends of Arlyn out in Trench. Antell, Tanner, and Abby are all friends of the underground, people that Arlyn trusts in city.

Danger Days: the true lives of the fabulous killjoys

- Wings, member of The Kids Today group and the zone's 'messenger bird'. Though the group has since dispersed, he can still be found running messages to different groups across the zones or around Rosa's Diner.

- Cash Androgyny, tumbleweed of The Cannibals group. Though they're usually found at the sun sandbox, train station av, or the mailbox.

- Neon Riot, an ex juvi hall who is hellbent on making a name for himself. young crash king who's a bit deity fucked, but he has a good heart despite how he acts.

I agree with that anon about the nwsl not being as close of a group as the wnba and I think the reason for that is most of the players in the nwsl are white and have never had to deal with what most of the wnba players, who are black, have had to deal with.

My design brain is itching again, and I figured maybe I should finally focus bit more on this set of characters lol. Then I realized tho that the main characters already have newer, up-to-date designs that I just...never posted here properly (the ones that do exist are outdated), so here they are I guess lol. Mage brothers Azul and Reuben Samaros. Azul is a dark arts expert, and Reuben is an elemental fire mage. 

(...admittedly the Reuben one was drawn a while ago hence his feet look weirdly massive lol, but the actual design is still accurate) 

Short bios below:

Azul Samaros-August

28 

Dark arts mage/expert, handles very dangerous threats for their home kingdom citizen’s safety, usually undercover/in secret. Also a general problem solver among his friends and family, undoing magical mishaps almost as an everyday occurrence.

Mostly serious, no-nonsense type who is powered by black coffee and sometimes spite. Does have a sense of humor, usually pretty dry and sarcastic, though he can also be mischievous and petty, which typically manifests during his favorite holiday “Nightmare Eve” (basically their world’s equivalent of Halloween)

Love interest of the kingdom’s eldest prince, Diojas 

He & Reuben were adopted by Lionel (A chesire cat) and Annabell (A songbird) August as children, and they also have a half brother Adam (also a Chesire). Samaros is their original surname.

Most of his closest friends are women, and many of them are also similar in nature to him, being the responsible one of their friend group. (Cue all of them drinking tea while silently judging you lol)

Azul has a familiar snake/naga demon called Lasha, who is also one of his ancestor-turned-Deity’s demons. Azul and Reuben are directly related to this “”Ascended” Deity.

Fire Elemental mage, large parts of his power are actually sealed off, because he has too much of it due to his biological father’s nonsense rituals in trying to make him more powerful, and it lashed out destroying their village, leaving him and Azul as only survivors. (Reuben does not remember this happening, Azul does)

Very kind and empathetic individual who is smarter than people often think. He’s also very emotionally intelligent and can read people’s mood and feelings easily. He’s always willing to help people who need it. It’s no surprise that he has become the folk hero of the Kingdom, protecting and helping them from visible threats, or doing something as simple as finding a lost child’s parents.

He is dating a woman called Sara, who later turns out is a daughter of one of their world’s oldest Deities, the Queen of Magic

He’s closer with his half brother Adam than Azul is, given he is generally more social than his older brother. He’s also closer with his mum, whereas Azul is close with their adoptive father who mentored him. 

Reuben is friendly with almost everyone he meets, his closest friend is his Djinn companion Athem, living in his earring. Athem also happens to be an old friend (now love interest) of Azul’s snake Lasha, back when both were human. 

Athem often has a habit of parenting Reuben, making sure he eats his veggies (which he does anyway) or knitting him scarves and other warm items if they travel somewhere colder. (Again, Reuben is pretty responsible and has common sense, so Athem’s antics aren’t strictly necessary, Reuben doesn’t mind it though)

After a self-reflection of my gender, I decided to create a new set of neopronouns that I kay or may not use in the future, but regardless I think others may like them.

I call these neopronouns, "Anticlassical Pronouns," and their purpose is to convey that one's gender reflects the antithesis of one of the classical genders (in Western society).

As an explanation, they use the latin prefix, "a," used as a, "not," prefix. For example, with the currently existing word, "atheist," the, "a," is used to convey that they are the antithesis of someone who believes in theism.

Here they are:

ashe, aher, ahers

athey, athem, atheirs

Pronunciations:

In general, these are pronounced with a long, "a," simply acting as a prefix, but may also function as a soft, "a;" for instance, "ahe," could be pronounced as, "ā-he," or as, "ä-he."

In the case of athey, athem, and atheirs, the sharpness of the, "th," sound can also be softened, like how it's used in words like, "aether."

This is so full of bullshit.

Miles has been known to disregard virtually all criticism if it’s not worded nicely, bemoans not knowing how to write racism well (and then going on to still not change how he writes racism), put a lot of favoritism towards jaune, and in give the rest of the main cast the shaft in general.

That’s full of shit because A. He has openly accepted criticism and your definition of ‘nicely worded’ is ‘reducing the number of death threats to one’. B. you guys are even worse at that and you suck off each other and C. Miles has outright said he hates voicing Jaune at this point and OTHER WRITERS write his scenes now.

At one point, he said that if he had known how popular Pilot Boi would have become, he would have kept the line about him having a boyfriend in the scene, not realizing that the issue would have been him pulling a “Bury Your Gays” right there. His inability/unwillingness to learn from his mistakes is what makes people dislike him.

That’s a complete lie because Miles SPECIFICALLY said they removed that line BECAUSE of that dumbass trope.

In a post-Volume 3 interview with Buzzfeed, Kerry made a comment that heavily implied that Miles shoved in Silver Eyes without consulting him. Miles has had a history of just also being really cocky. And while I haven’t heard him doing it much now, responses to the criticisms regarding the plot holes and such were met with “Monty wrote it.”- Effectively trying to deflect blame.

So basically ‘Imma make up shit that never happened to bash Miles for it’ even though when KERRY HIMSELF takes responsibility for Jaune’s scenes, you still blame Miles.

Oh and Monty probably DID write it because those Silver Eyes only exist because of the Maidens. And who wrote in the Maidens despite his cowriters asking him not to? ... Yeah I thought so.

Effectively, Miles has acted a lot like jaune in the sense that he just doesn’t want to take responsibility for his screw-ups.

No, that’s you projecting on multiple levels.

Oh you think I’m exaggerating?

A. It projects his bias against Jaune because that’s a blatant lie.

B. It projects his inability to separate fiction and reality by seeing Jaune and Miles as interchangeable.

And C. It projects himself because Dudeblade never admits his own fuckups.

Miles also surrounds himself with fans who won’t complain about anything, constantly reassuring that he’s doing fine without providing any tips on how to improve. He’s also hypocritical, making claims that LoK missed the mark when rwby seems to be heading in the exact same direction.

ANd there he goes lying again.

A. He’s never shown to block anyone so it’s their own damn fault for not bringing their compliants directly to Miles.

B. He’s repeatedly said how he’s improved and repeatedly said he’s not a good writer.

And C. he said the FINALE of LoK JUST missed the mark and the rest was execellent, you just cut everything inconvienent to you out.

On top of which, while not directly Miles’ fault, there’s also how the company has treated Monty’s friends and family. Sheena was cut off from the project unceremoniously and Shane was fired. This was before all the lay-offs. Miles and Kerry took a show that had so much potential, and made it a run of the mill show that doesn’t really do much.

A. Shane was fired because he refused to change the system that only worked for the one guy who DIED.

B. It was never his fault his happened so you’re full of it to blame him.

And C. Considering that you assholes are quickly becoming a minority, you just sound desperate to reaffirm your delusions.

The LGBT+ Rep came off as really bad considering that the first confirmed LGBT+ Character we had was Ilia, a bitter lesbian who was complicit in the attempted murder of Blake’s parents and was willing to drag Blake back to Adam against her will. The way they handle racism is horrible too, as it comes off as “The oppressed people should stick up for the oppressors and simply ask kindly that they not be oppressed.”

A. You PURPOSEFULLY took Illa to be that way. Illa was never bitter about Blake not loving her, she STOPPED the attempted murder and felt CONFLICTED the entire way. You’re actually BEING homophobic for assuming g her flaws had anything to do with her sexuality.

And B. No it comes across as ‘You shouldn’t be a violent douchebag no better than your enemies’ AKA atheme of the damn show, you just want to be violent.

The way the narrative frames female characters’ reactions to male characters is also one of note. Yang rushes in to save Blake, and she’s met with belittlement and a lost arm. Jaune rushes in to get revenge and he’s met with unlocking his semblance and being validated. Yang, Blake, and Salem are all traumatized and they’re met with “They should get over it! They ruined everything! They’re being drama queens!” while tai, jaune, and oz are also traumatized and they’re met with “Oh, poor things! They deserve all the sympathy! They should be allowed to rest!” Yang yells at Oscar to bring back Ozpin and she’s met with “What a bitch” qrow and jaune physically assault Oscar and they get “Well, they’re angry and are feeling betrayed, it’s understandable!”- Miles’ inability/unwillingness to address these issues is also a point of contempt.

Translation: “He’s bad for not being sexist like me.” Because this shit makes in context, Dudeblade just sees dicks and vaginas.

Plus, Miles was known for constantly saying stuff like “I’m not a professional writer!” Which led to his staunch defenders to leap to his defense and make excuses. While I have no issues with Miles not being a professional writer, he doesn’t ask for help, nor does he accept it when it’s offered. It’s very jaune-esque.

Dudeblade, you call ‘pointing out your blatant lies’ as making excuses.

And considering the other writers, he clearly HAS.

Oh and speaking of THEM, why do you never bitch at them?

After all, Kerry voices Neptune whose more of a self insert than Jaune and has been on teh show JUST as long and Eddy has been MORE hostile towards ‘critics’ than Miles. So how come you don’t give a shit?

Oh wait, Kerry and Eddy will verbally kick the ass of any of you douchebags and Miles is too passive and nice to do it.

Because that’s the real reason why you have an issue. It has nothing to do with anything factual or even logical, you think you’re entitled to have this shit go your way (we can see it when you throw a fit if Jaune is onscreen for more than a second) and you know Miles won’t stand up for himself so you target him.

Just touching base. I’m still alive and good, just super busy with work lately. Not to mention the chicks, shopping for elderly family, keeping on top of decontamination, and general busy life junk. It's hard to tell what your favourite show is.

I don't know! If we're talking about emotional attachment it's Grey's Anatomy. It's been my constant over the years, my rock. Always there, even when I didn't particularly enjoy it. A safe place. And also - and this almost never happens w other shows - very cathartic. I've cried more watching greys than any other piece of media, as stupid as it is.

If we're talking about quality, then you have your usual suspects: Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul, The Americans, The Wire, Mad Men, Black Sails. And I would add Generation Kill, even tho it's a miniseries. I have a soft spot for Justified, severly underappreciated. The dialogues, man. The most entertaining show ever made.

Shoutout to Band of Brothers/The Pacific. From what I've gathered, you either don't like them at all (can't relate) or develop an insane over-obsession that lasts YEARS despite the fact that it's ten episodes each. Scientists can't explain this phenomenon.

I would put comedies in a different category. My favourites are Veep and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Not to mention my hatelovehatelove for Silicon Valley, alas.

Special mention to Friday Night Lights which was my athem while it was airing. I haven't rewatched it since, tho. I should. And Shameless, that hot mess of a show.

I realize I haven't answered the question, but I've already refrained from mentioning other obsessions of times long gone, such as Sons of Anarchy, or Vikings, or Hannibal, or The Good Wife. Anyway so many old pre-2015 goodies. New shows suck, barring Fleabag.

One thing that we can pretty much count on is that as long as humans have working brains, they will try to find ways to mess with them. The latest and most potent way is the designer drug Anthem, which goes way beyond just altering your perceptions, it alters your actual DNA. In fact, if you’re not careful, you could end up as something which is no longer quite human…or just dead. That’s why it’s outlawed! But how do you deal with criminals that are literally superhuman? You send in your “best”! The detectives of the Seven 0 unit risk their lives every day to keep the citizens safe and Anthem off the streets. Don’t call them heroes, they are just doing their jobs. And starting now, Kirill is one of them!

First Anthem is a great name for a drug. It’s poetic, symbolic, easy to say and remember, positive in connotation. I am putting way too much thought into the marketing applications of illegal drugs. Second, that synopsis I just wrote is very accurate and super boring. Don’t go by it. Double Decker is a fun, often very silly show. I kept thinking of Brooklyn 99 if that can give you an idea. But then also of Breaking Bad a little… It’s not as funny as Brooklyn 99 or as well written as Breaking Bad but it makes up for it in weirdness and colour! Double Decker is just a queer little show in the best way. Pun intended!

why did this image seem to fit?

I have to say, the first thing that hit me as soon as I started this series was: whoa the colours! I haven’t been taken by such a sumptuous and prominent colour palette since No Game No Life. I figure this will probably divide viewers somewhat. The colours are rich and bright but they could also be called loud and potentially headache inducing. For me, that pop art palette is a selling point though and I must say my screencaps do not do it justice.

With such an in your face element, it’s sort of difficult to get passed the colours to the rest of the production. If you do though, the second thing you are likely to notice is the CG. The CG is… well, it’s ok. Some episodes are pretty CG heavy and it’s not incorporated as smoothly as it could be. But when used more sparingly it actually creates some very interesting dynamic effects that work well with the high action scenes. It’s actually heavier in the first few episodes and I was worried that it would end up being distracting but the 3D team seems to have found the proper balance as the series wore on and later episodes, which use it more sparingly, actually have some very good CG integration.

I never get tired of the gorgeous skyline

Wow, I really didn’t think I would talk this much about production. Fact is, Double Decker has a very distinctive look to it. Not only for what I’ve mentioned above but in actual design as well. Thankfully, I think the screencaps do a better job of showing those. Like anything that’s unusual, that can be a plus or a minus. I liked it, so it worked for me, if you don’t you may actually find it enough of a turn off to drop the show. This said, the sound is in fact quite good and the voice acting has a lot of chemistry even if individual performances don’t stand out as much.

Alright, so it’s a cool looking show. What else… I’ve come to realize that I am not the best person to review these types of series. What I mean is that I have a real soft spot for goofy action comedies with a criminal element. For instance, I rated much higher than average last year’s Hakata Tonkotsu Ramens. I’m also a big Archer fangirl. It’s a very specific niche that happens to speak to me, so I’m by no means objective in this review.

My review doesn’t make it clear but Travis sort of rules

I enjoyed this show a lot more than the average viewer, so my review is going to show that. But let me tell you why. The underlying organized crime story is in fact pretty solidly thought out. The organizations are described in enough detail to give you a real sense of everything that’s going on and the tension and danger are present despite the generally humorous tone of the series. If you like crime procedurals, there is enough groundwork in the storyline to keep you interested.

 This said I started the series firmly believing this was a mecha show, and for the longest time, I had no idea why. There is a pretty drastic tonal and genre switch that happens in the last few episodes that I did not see coming. It’s not exactly seamless, there is a reason I called this show messy in my title. There are some plot holes and a few contrivances. The story could have used a bit more background to really evolve naturally. But it still works.

 An effort has been put in to tie all the disparate genre elements together and give decent explanations for all the events of the series. Some are a little contrived but the whole thing holds together rather well and when you consider just how nutty things get, that’s pretty impressive, to say the least.

self-awareness is important

Although this isn’t an important element, I feel I should drop a line for all the nontraditional gender and sexual orientation representation in this series. A lot of characters and relationships do not follow social norms but both gender and sexuality are presented as incidental character traits rather than defining ones which I really appreciated. Double Decker is a very accepting show and I found it refreshing. I particularly enjoyed the fact that Kirill, the main character gets mistaken for a woman very regularly and although he is occasionally annoyed and corrects the misconception, in general, he never gets mad about it or considers it an insult or even a joke. It’s more of a catalyst for later events than a running gag. As for the clearly more traditionally masculine female character, it’s never even brought up and her femininity is never questioned despite her imposing physical strength.

 That’s a long paragraph for something I thought was barely worth mentioning. I watched Double Decker in June when questions of sexuality and identity were all around me and I just thought the series presented it particularly well while keeping its sense of humour about it. Kudos.

it’s a long story

The three extra episodes are side stories and slice of life events that happen in the course of the main storyline that for some reason weren’t included in the official season. I actually enjoyed them more and wish there had been more of those asides in the show as they fleshed out the characters beautiful and were just generally fun to watch. This is probably the first time I enjoyed the extras this much.

Overall, Double Decker is a well-made show with more than a few good moments. It’s not perfect and overreaches now and then but it succeeds more often than it fails. In my opinion, it’s worth a look. As the season stays fairly consistent throughout (the two background episodes on Doug and Max are particularly touching though), you should be able to get a good feel for the show from the first few episodes and decide if you want to see the rest. I would watch a second season in a heartbeat.

Side note : the frequent exposed brickwork and apartment interiors in this show were really beautiful. The hipster in me wanted to move there so bad!
