Supernatural: The Showrunner's Challenge
A writing challenge/exercise
I saw this post and thought it would be really fun to make a SPN specific version. Some of these I tweaked from the OG post, some are the exact same, and others are brand new. If you like this, please give the OG post some love for the creators great idea!!
Think you can write better than the showrunners of Supernatural? Let’s find out! This prompt is a writing exercise/challenge to create a ‘season’ of Supernatural via fanfic. Each chapter functions as an episode.
Prompt:
To start, think of what you would change about SPN if you were its showrunner. Would you scrap everything and start from new? Keep the series going with a new season? Pick a spot in the show and diverge from there? Ignore all the plot and play dolls with your favorite characters?
Write a chapter that works as the Pilot of the show you want to see. At the end of each episode, roll a d12 to see what you must include in the following episode:
Roll a d12:
1. Everything at once: Roll twice, use both. If you get 1 again, keep rolling. Your only way out is to stop getting 1s.
2. TMWWBK: Give every character in the previous chapter a number. Using a dice roll/random number generator, the character whose number is selected is now the main subject and POV of the next episode.
For a greater challenge: include any character mentioned by name and any character with dialogue. (i.e. If Sam mentions Bobby, give him a number. If the waitress at a diner talks to Dean, give her a number)
3. Fan favorite: Your most recently mentioned character (or named object) is now beloved by the audience. You must give them a bigger part in the story, a special destiny, or an important new romance or friendship.
If you roll 3 again; the character must get killed off to motivate their friends/allies/love interest or to serve the plot.
If you roll 3 a third time; either start over OR they come back from the dead.
4. High Concept Episode: Due to plot/MOTW/meddling gods/whatever, the characters are trapped in a different genre than usual. Roll a d6.
High Fantasy/Sci-Fi
Apocalypse/Alternate Reality
Time Travel/Time loop
Sit-com/Meta
Crossover/Stuck in a video Game
Slasher/Death Game
5. Filler episode: The next chapter must be completely low stakes and set you at ease.
For a greater challenge: Flip a coin for each main character.
Heads: Their filler is full of thoughtful inner world building and characterization
Tails: They are interrogating the milves (i.e. doing something silly and stupid)
6. Mothership: The next chapter must include the characters making references to/listening to/arguing about/having a feelings jam accompanied by... Classic Rock.
Bonus: If you roll three 6’s in a row, introduce a Lucifer plotline (If you were ALREADY writing about Lucifer.... kill him).
7. Fallen Angels and Special Children: If the last character mentioned in the previous episode has special abilities, they lose them. If that character does not have special abilities, they gain them.
8. The Focus Group: The execs created a focus group to see if audiences would like more romance in the show. Flip a coin to determine the outcome:
Heads: The audience is into it and so are the execs! The next episode needs to involve a deep, sappy confession of either love or admiration between two characters that have not previously been romantically involved.
Tails: The audience is into it but the execs aren't so sure... The next episode needs to introduce a budding romance between two characters that is only ever alluded to, but never stated outright.
If you roll 8 again:
If you got Heads on the previous flip: The characters have a messy breakup/divorce.
If you got Tails on the previous flip: One character dies right after outright stating their romantic feelings for the other.
9. Familiar Faces: A character from a different season is (re)introduced and becomes plot relevant. (ex: if you’re writing early seasons, include Kevin, Rowena, Ketch, Dagon, ect. If you’re writing late seasons, include Rufus, Cassie, Ava, Bela, ect.)
For greater challenge, assign characters a number and select via dice roll OR
Use a tumblr poll to have followers select
10. J2 Fallout: The two most recently mentioned characters' actors have, IRL, gone through a VERY messy divorce or friend breakup. You cannot put them in the same scene, but they must both remain relevant to the show.
If you roll 10 again, they reconcile.
11. Deep Analysis: Roll a d6. The next episode must include the theme of:
Grief
Bodily Autonomy
Family don’t end in blood
Family is Hell/Absent Fathers and Absent Gods
What makes a monster monstrous
Love
12. Are we ever really done? The most recently mentioned character's actor has decided to leave the show. Kill off their character.
If you roll 12 again for another episode, the character returns.
There's a few bonuses to a character returning, so if you so choose, Flip a coin.
Heads: the actor chose to come back and the character looks the same.
Tails: the actor did not reprise their role so the character has a "new vessel."
The other bonus flip:
Heads: upon return, the character is on the side of the protags
Tails: upon return, the character is working against the protags
Have fun and happy writing <3
Please feel free to tweak this game however works best for you. And if anyone does actually end up writing and posting something based off this, PLEASE tag me bc I wanna see lmao
Tagging a few writing buddies who might get a kick out of this: @kerryweaverlesbian @shallowseeker @bloodydeanwinchester @gryptids @kingflups

A Guide to Fanfiction Tropes and Genres:
🟪I made this cuz honestly, why not lol. For people who are beginners to the fanfiction universe. For anyone who wants to get a glimpse of what this world is like and the common themes used in this "off-the-wall piece of literature". Could be for research purposes or for curiosity, or maybe you want to start writing stuff but not sure what things you might use. No matter who is reading this, I hope this guide helps you.
--I also made this for myself, as a lil handbook to look at while categorizing the fanfics i collect in my blog.
🟦There are genres/topes/themes which you won't be seeing much or any at all particularly in my blog; but I wanted to add them to the lists anyways because they are widely used in fanfiction. I tried to include the main, most common things used in fanfics. Because in reality, the possibilities in a fanfic are endless.
--Many of these are self explanatory so I didn't add extra info to most of them.
This may be used by other fandoms as well. Since this is a Jungkook based account, he is used for some of the examples. You can replace him with anyone you wish to write/read about.
🟥I added most things myself from the knowledge accumulated through my years of experience in fanfiction consumption. For the things I thought I might have missed, I used multiple websites and a reddit post as a referance, which I will credit their links at the very end.
🟫Shoutout to chatgpt for alphabetizing my lists in the end. It would take me ages to edit this
🟩 If you think there is anything I missed, feel free to contact me, I can always edit this post to add new things.
PS: I chose to omit much of the specificities of explicit content (such as specific kinks). I tried to keep things a bit chill. Most likely the authors will include the details of the explicit events in their explanation section. You will know what they are when you see them.

(e.g. Jessica, blond hair, brown eyes, etc.) However i have seen many fanfics where the author writes “Jungkook x OC” in the explanations but the character throughout the story is in fact written like a self-insert/YN/reader with little to no physical descriptions.
Jungkook X Reader (Y/N or “_____” )

I haven't seen many horror films and would like some recommendations. What are some must-watch horror movies for someone new to the genre?
oooh this is such a fun question but so hard 2 answer bc horror is like. such a versatile genre & where u should start depends a lot on like what type of movies u enjoy/what ur looking for….
like if u want sci-fi/alien horror then the obvious place 2 start is w alien (1979) and aliens (1986) (there are other sequels as well but the first 2 are the best) & then also the thing (1982) and its prequel film that came out in 2011 (also titled the thing). AND of course the fly (1986) is a must-see...and if u want something more recent nope (2022) or no one will save you (2023)...both a little more artsy and slow-moving than the 80s recs on this list but very very good <3
if ur interested in slashers then again start w the classics scream (1996) is SO fun it deserves its spot in the horror hall of fame...i know what you did last summer (1997) is also a fun & slightly older slasher; cabin in the woods (2011) is great if u want some meta-slasher-horror; ready or not (2019) isn't necessarily a conventional slasher but i'd still include it in this category & it's one of my faves
if found footage is ur jam PLEASE start w creep (2014) probably my fave found footage horror film ever...but also i'm not a huge found footage fan generally speaking lol. that being said the blair witch project (1999) is of course the classic here but it's not my personal fave; other good options if u want something genuinely freaky/scary are the bay (2012) hell house llc (2015) and gonjiam: haunted asylum (2018)
if u want like possessions & demons etc then. start with jennifer's body (2009) if u want horror-comedy it is SO fun & a staple of the genre atp but if u want something scarier then it follows (2014) is a popular one. there have also been a lot of good possesion movies coming out recently i thought smile (2022) talk to me (2022) and when evil lurks (2023) (<- literally JUST watched this one today lol) were all quite spooky
& sort of possession-adjacent but if ur more into hauntings, ghosts, etc then start w the babadook (2014) or his house (2020) both SO good. also the shining (1980) is a classic & la llorona (2019) is a personal fave of mine (NOT. the u.s. 'curse of la llorona' movie. the guatemalan one.)
if u want witches then start w the craft (1996) another sort of fun one <3 or if u want a classic then hungry wives (1972). the love witch (2016) if u want a visually beautiful & less scary one; the witch (2015) if u want a scarier one.
if u want eerie fantasy-horror then the company of wolves (1984) or tale of tales (2015). if u want a creature feature then blood red sky (2021) for vampires, ginger snaps (2000) for werewolves, and a quiet place (2018) for like post-apocalyptic creature invasion horror.
& SPEAKING of post-apocalyptic. if u want zombies i could make a whole separate post but. START w train to busan (2016) & seoul station (2016) the dynamic duo <3 & then if u want some classics from the genre of course night of the living dead (1968), dawn of the dead (2004...i haven't seen the original one u could watch that one too tho...), and 28 days later (2002). raw (2016) if u want an artsier one, the girl with all the gifts (2016) if u want a fun spin on zombie apocalypse, cargo (2017) if u want 2 cry. & if u want something funny then PLEASE watch zombie for sale (2019) or anna and the apocalypse (2017) or one cut of the dead (2017)
if u want kind of a slower-build psychological thriller then the invitation (2015) is one of my faves, but mother! (2017) is also good if u want an artsy pick & gerald's game (2017) and lyle (2014) are good as well
and then just a grab-bag of horror movies that didn't fit perfectly into any of these categories: barbarian (2022) if u want something really scary, piggy (2022) if u want slow-building horror, midsommar (2019) if u want sunshiney culty a24 aesthetic, us (2019) if u want something that'll freak u out & is slasher-adjacent, get out (2017) if u want slow-build thriller vibes, and teeth (2007) if u want teen-girl horror classic.
bear in mind that many of these films overlap between the categories i've divided them into 4 this answer, as is the nature of horror...if u were asking me 2 just like. force myself 2 choose a top 10 horror movies 2 introduce someone 2 horror w no preference 4 genre or vibe...i think my list would probably be (in no particular order):
alien (1979)
2. the fly (1986)
3. jennifer's body (2009)
4. ginger snaps (2000)
5. train to busan (2016) (<- pains me 2 say bc seoul station is my fave zombie movie of all time but if i had 2 choose just one zombie movie 2 introduce someone 2 the genre it would be this one...beginner zombie movie...)
6. scream (1996)
7. his house (2020)
8. barbarian (2022)
9. creep (2014)
10. us (2019)
#ask#SUCH a fun question 4 me 2 answer <3#hope u find something u like on this list anon...#movie recs

Book recs: vampires
Listen, vampires are a classic for a reason, but they have also been done to death (pardon the pun) to the point that finding books that are creative with the premise can be a bit of a slog through tired old tropes. Hopefully this rec list can be to a bit of help for all vampire fans out there wanting something fresh!

For details on the books, continue under the readmore

Sci-fi vampires:

Fledgling by Octavia Butler
Octavia Butler my beloved, literally you cannot go wrong with one of her books. Fledgling follows what at first seems to be a ten-year-old amnesiac girl, who finds out she is in fact a decades old vampire on the run from others of her kind. The vampires here are a separate species from human, not supernatural, and are as a whole very fascinating and unsettling. Come in prepared for fucked up power dynamics.
Blindsight by Peter Watts
Vampires and aliens and questions of the nature of consciousnesses, oh my. Not a vampire novel so much as a scifi novel about aliens in which there also happens to be vampires (one of which is captain of a spaceship sent to explore an alien ship just entering the solar system). Another example of vampires as an entire separate species, but more horror focused than Fledgling. No, seriously, this book will fuck you up, highly recommend if you're okay with a lot of techno babble and existential horror.
Peeps (Peeps duology) by Scott Westerfeld
Young adult. Vampirism as a sexually transmitted parasite that turns most people into bloodthirsty monsters. Cal is an asymptomatic carrier working to find other infected before they hurt people, including his own former girlfriends. But there is something else lurking in the dark, an ancient enemy of the vampire parasite...
Post apocalypse vampires:

The Hallowed Ones (The Hallowed Ones duology) by Laura Bickle
Young adult. Katie is an Amish girl eagerly awaiting her rumspringa, when she gets to try out the outside world. But before she has the chance, something happens to the Outside; a nearby town is wiped out, and something evil stalks the night. To protect their community, the Amish elders decide that no one can leave and no one can enter the sacred ground that makes up their home. That is, until Katie finds an injured young man and decides to help him.
The Company of Death by Elisa Hansen
Wild mix of genres, where a zombie apocalypse has struck and vampires gather up humans to keep their food source from going extinct, a robot travels across America with a young man she's tasked to keep safe, and former-vampire-hunter-recent-zombie Emily teams up with Death himself to stop the apocalypse. Features bi and ace characters! Bonus rec: the author also runs the youtube channel Maven of the Eventide, where she talks about various vampire media. Check it out!
The Immortal Rules (Blood of Eden trilogy) by Julie Kagawa
Young adult. Another zombie apocalypse (well; feral vampires) scenario in which vampires gather humans up to keep their food safe. Allison Sekemoto hates vampires, but when she ends up on the brink of death and is offered a way out, she has no choice but to take it. Hunted by a mad vampire and forced to flee the relative safety of her city, Allie must enter the post-apocalyptic outside world and team up with the free humans roaming there, seeking a cure for the undead plague that ravages the world.
Urban fantasy vampires:

Certain Dark Things by Silvia Moreno-Garcia
Queen of fucked up gothic horror, Silvia Moreno-Garcia, comes for vampires in this gritty novel following Domingo, a garbage collecting street kid in a Mexico City where vampires walk the streets. His life gets turned upside down when he meets Atl, a vampire descendant of Aztec blood drinkers who’s on the run and needs all the help she can get.
Sunshine by Robin McKinnley
Urban fantasy on a level of its own, where dangerous magic exists alongside humans. It keeps you guessing and much is left unexplained; if you want clear answers and explanations to everything you might be disappointed, but if you want a world that feels mysterious and dangerous and lived in you'll probably like it. It follows a baker who, after getting kidnapped by vampires, gets embroiled in a dangerous struggle and has to team up with one of them to survive. The vampires here are really inhuman and unsettling.
The Coldest Girl in Coldtown by Holly Black
Young adult. After vampirism swept the land, special Coldtowns were built to quarantine anyone bitten, whether they have turned or not. After having survived a massacre at a party in which her ex-boyfriend got bit, Tana sets out with him and mysterious vampire to reach the nearest Coldtown, not knowing if she’ll ever be able to leave it again.
Modern vampires:

Let the Right One In by John Ajvide Lindqvist
Swedish literary novel set in the 1980s. Follows twelve-year-old Oskar, a troubled and bullied boy who befriends his new neighbor, Eli. But there’s something strange about Eli, such as her only coming out at night. Also available as two separate movie adaptations (I highly recommend the Swedish original; the American remake is perfectly adequate standard horror fare, the original is a masterpiece).
Woman, Eating by Claire Kohda
Literary novel following Lydia, who’s grown up as a vampire under the thumb of her mother, who’s been obsessed with self-hate over their existence as blood drinkers. Finally on her own for the first time in her life, Lydia moves to London hoping to make it as an artist. But surviving alone as a vampire is harder than expected. Slow and fairly light on plot, but utterly captivating.
Companions of the Night by Vivian Vande Velde
Young adult. After Kerry saves a young man from three attackers who claim he's a vampire, she's drawn into a dangerous game and forced to work with a manipulative vampire. Pre-cursor to the modern ya vampire genre, Companions of the Night utilizes many of the same tropes but in very different ways, making it a unique experience.
Historical and fantasy vampires:
A Dowry of Blood by S.T. Gibson
Dracula inspired novella, following Constanta, who’s turned from a medieval peasant to an undead bride. As time passes the relationship between Dracula and Constanta grows all the more strained and potentially dangerous. Teaming up with his two other consorts, she seeks to unravel her husband's secrets. Sapphic and polyamorous.
The Gilda Stories by Jewelle Gomez
Having escaped from slavery in the 1850s, young Gilda is taken in by a vampire, and eventually finds herself turned as well. Consists of a series of novellas following Gilda throughout the centuries, from the past to the present to the future. It’s also sapphic!
House of Hunger by Alexis Henderson
In a world where the rich drink blood to preserve their health, Marion applies to a position as bloodmaid in a notorious noble house far from home. Suddenly showered with luxuries and debauchery, Marion soon gains the interest and favor of Lisavet, countess of the house. A fresh take on the idea of vampires and deliciously dark sapphic romance.
Bonus AKA I haven't read these yet but they seem really cool
The Hunger by Whitley Strieber
Ancient vampire is on the hunt for a new partner, none of which tend to last long.
My Soul to Keep (African Immortals series) by Tananarive Due
I keep seeing this one described as a vampire book, and once stumbled on the description "almost a vampire book" and listen by now I'm simply curious to see what it's about.
Team Human by Justine Larbelestier & Sarah Rees Brennan
Young adult. As far as I can tell, a satire on typical ya vampire romances.

The Madness Season by C.S. Friedman
*chanting* vampires in space vampires iN SPACE
The Lost Girls by Sonia Hartl
Young adult, sapphic. Three vampire girls turned and abandoned by the same vampire get together to stop him from turning yet another girl.
The Balance of Fates by Raquel Raelynn
Young adult, sapphic. A girl enters a competition against vampires and werewolves, complicated by her feelings for one of her vampire competitors.
#hello new critrole followers! i sometimes write book recs!#vampires#book recs#nella talks books#portal fantasies next time!#might be longer than a week tho#there are a couple of books i want to check out first to see if they qualify#(just gave up about nora roberts the awakening; it does NOT qualify)

Welcome, travellers, to Eternal Eclipse!
Humans and supernaturals have lived side-by-side for centuries, an uneasy peace between the two that has threatened to crack many times before. The world is changed, and continues to change each day. The Material Plane is cracking, and the darkness at the edge of all things creeps ever-closer.
The Triad, foul creators of the Eternal Eclipse which plagues our world, fight against all living things. With their army of Nightmares and their mortal allies, they fight a bloody war against The Protectorate for control of the world - and for the lives of every living thing.
Many believe the apocalypse is coming - or has already begun.
Yet one would be fool indeed to believe that there was not more. None wish to admit it, yet far more builds on the horizon than simply The Triad. Will it be discovered before it is too late?
That choice is yours. Take your story into your own hands, and forge your new destiny in a world ripe with opportunity. Will you take up arms, or will you live simply? Will you love, or hate? All of this and more is your choice, and yours alone.

RP INFO
I decided to make a separate post to detail all of my RP preferences to keep my pinned a little shorter. Please read everything here before contacting me to request a roleplay. I don't expect you to memorize everything, but at least skim through the whole thing. Sorry it's a little long and if I come off as a bit of a stickler. I've been roleplaying for a very long time and have dealt with a lot of bullshit that I'm hoping to avoid where possible. I won't bite your head off if you accidentally slip up on some of these.
BASICS:
Read my pinned first! There's a list of kinks I will and won't do at the bottom, and other general guidelines for interacting with me.
Experienced roleplayers only, please. I'm also not comfortable RPing with anyone under 21 years old.
Please don't DM me jumping into an RP. I'll ignore it. If you want to do something informal and one-off, just send me an ask. You can include my OCs, if you want.
I don't have any set requirements for reply lengths. I'll write what's needed, and that's all I expect out of a partner. However, please be able to write multiple paragraphs. I won't do RPs that are strictly one or two lines back and forth.
I'm generally uninterested in lengthy sex scenes. Pregnant sex is more appealing, if the focus is mostly on the pregnant person's body.
PLOTS & GENRES
Don't send me low effort messages expecting me to do everything in regards to setting things up. I don't need you to have a solid plot idea from the get, but bring something to the table. If your best idea is something along the lines of "boyfriend/husband/roommate gets his girlfriend/wife/roommate pregnant", then please don't bother.
I don't do fandom RP. OCs only.
I don't like vanilla, fluffy, domestic pregnancy plots. At this time, I'm most interested in RPs that focus mainly on the pregnancy in a kinky way.
In general, I prefer fantasy settings, but I'm open to sci-fi or modern. I'd rather do a vintage real world setting than a modern one, though. Post apocalypse is also cool.
CHARACTERS
I'm willing to write most of my OCs featured in my stories. I can also come up with new OCs for the purpose of fitting whatever plot we come up with. Here's a list of my OCs, with links to more specific information about each some of them.
Please don't offer plots that go against what's fitting for my OCs. If there's an idea you want to do that doesn't fit any of them, that's fine, I can come up with an OC that fits if I like the idea, but don't try and fit a circle peg into a square hole.
In the same vein as the previous point, please be respectful of my OCs and myself. Don't try to convince me to change any OC's traits, or ignore the traits they have because they don't suit what you want. Likewise, if I tell you I'm not interested in something, don't try and make me do it. I've had too many people agree to my terms when setting things up, and then turn around and try to go against them, anyway.
Do not god mod. Do not control my OCs in any way. Do not write what they are thinking, feeling, or doing. If you need to know what they're going to do for part of your response, just ask.
All characters should be 30+ and look like it. If your character is 100 but looks 18, it's a no go.
#i may add or remove things in the future#again i know it's a little long but it's easier for everyone if i put everything in a post#instead of having to go through all of this every time someone wants to rp

Looking for some 18+ writers for some OC x OC, fandomless threads! Literate to adv literate, ~30(+) discord lines on average per response.
I do MxM, FxF, MxNB and FxNB pairings.
MxF can happen, most likely including trans and/or bi muses.
My favourite genres are modern fantasy, slice of life/dark realism, dead dove tropes, low sci-fi, dystopia and post-apocalypse ♡
I'm open to nsfw and kink themes, where I mainly play switches, but I'm open to playing top/dom and bottom/sub characters as well.
I draw the line at non-con and physically abusive pairings, violence between characters might be required by some plots but let's not make it the focus!
Character-driven and POC friendly.
I have lots of plot ideas and use both descriptions and irl faceclaims, though finding a ref isn't always easy so bear with me 😭
Leave a like and I'll reach out!

🚀✨ Hey there, fellow storyteller! On the hunt for a roleplay partner? Look no further. Together, we can dive into fresh plots and breathe life into some rad characters. 🌛🌠
Let's break the ice: I'm a 34-year-old female roleplay enthusiast from the CET/CEST timezone, with 15 years of roleplaying under my belt. My sweet spot is MxM storylines, though I'm open to FxF and sometimes MxF – provided we're challenging the usual norms.
To me, roleplay is like an open world video game. We've got the freedom to weave intricate plots, build characters from the ground up, and sculpt backstories that make our hearts race. My focus lies in creating multifaceted narratives and delving deep into our characters' worlds. Real life situations, character development, emotional depth, darkness, and even NSFW elements (that's right, no-holds-barred smut) – are all fair game. If your thing is authentic, gritty relationships rather than sugary fluff, then we're a match!
The stage for our stories? Well, that's entirely up to us. Cyberpunk cityscapes, high-fantasy kingdoms, adrenaline-fueled pirate voyages, intricate historical dramas, expansive sci-fi universes – anything's possible. I'm also down for tales of the apocalypse, disasters, and even some good old Western action.
My fandom interests are varied, including Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, Titanic, Stranger Things, American Horror Story, Mass Effect, Dragon Age, Interview with a Vampire, and Lord of the Rings. I've played a range of characters over the years:
Thranduil & Boromir, Lord of the Rings
Sirius Black, Lucius Malfoy, Fred Weasley, & Rita Skeeter, Harry Potter
Cinna, Hunger Games
Adore Delano (as a character, not the real person), RuPaul's Drag Race
Cersei Lannister & Jon Snow, Game of Thrones
Recently, I've been really keen on exploring Billy from Stranger Things. While I have a repertoire of preferred characters, I'm flexible and more than ready to venture into new territories, whether that's different fandoms, original settings, or uncharted characters.
Outside of roleplay, I appreciate a good chat about our characters, storyline, or even our latest Netflix obsessions. No rush, though. I'm a relaxed responder (both OOC and IC) and hope for the same laid-back vibes from you.
As an active part of the LGBTIAQ+ community, I'm all in for crafting diverse narratives and characters. If you're on the same wavelength, hit the like button or slide into my Tumblr DMs. Let's create something awesome!
If 'what if' scenarios – like 'What if the French Revolution happened in England?' – get your gears turning, I'm here for it. I'm all about exploring various themes and genres, especially those that delve into darker and more mature content, including some dead dove. Once I'm invested, I dig deep and savour exploring every facet of our story, big or small. I can write both on Discord and Tumblr dash.
So, what's the verdict? Ready to start this roleplay journey? Give me a shout! Your next adventure is just one message away! 🌌🚀✨
Like this post and the asker will reach out!

Note: There's no way to make a comprehensive list for this category in a single Tumblr post.
Citrus Scale
Kickin' it old-school; how tart is your fic?
Banana (Absolutely nothing sexual about this whatsoever, even kissing isn't a thing here, and holding hands might be scandalous)
Orange (Minor touching, nothing you might get arrested for, almost entirely SFW in all ways, 100% consensual across the board, PG-13 and up without question)
Lime (The equivalent to 'soft-core porn,' blatant sexual acts depicted though not explicitly described, characters have rounded third base and are getting ready to slide into home, you might have to show ID to prove you're of-age to get into the movie theater showing the fic on screen)
Lemon (THE NSFW tag, smut, absolutely describing the naughty bits and all the dirty actions)
Genres
Did you get your peanut butter in my chocolate? Are you a regency purist? What genre does your fic fall into?
Romance
Sci-fi
Mystery
Fantasy
High Fantasy
Urban Fantasy
Western
Samurai
Horror
Thriller
Don'ts
Don't do these things. Ever.
Tiktok-ify your tags - "sanitizing" your tags to "get past the algorithm." ("unalive", "k!nk") There is no algorithm, all you're doing is breaking the tagging system if you do this
Tag spam - adding tags to your fic that don't apply to your fic
Tag jam - adding as many tags as possible in hopes that someone, somewhere will find your fic. All this does is create a massive, unreadable block of text that defeats the purpose of the tagging system
Suggested edits to the infographic
This is entirely my opinion:
Alternative Universe, Canon Divergence, Crossover, and Future Fic should be removed from the "Canon" section
A/B/O is not exclusively about sex/smut and should be separated from "Sexy times"
Remove the "Other worldly" section. 90% of the listed terms are genres and the others can go into other sections
Definitions Needed
Sometimes y'all forget that your experience is not universal. WTF are these?!
5+1 Things
Podfic
Songfic (Is this a fic told in song? A fic that has a song in it?)
PWP
Whump
Final note: Never, EVER use A/B/O without the slashes. Ever. I'm not even joking about this
I kind of suck at tagging, so I made this infographic to help make it easier.

F.M.P Pre-production: (Theme Selection and Justification)
Figure 1: Kingdom Come: Deliverance II. (Warhorse Studios, 2025)
I noticed that most of the video games released recently are mostly fantasy, science fiction, post-apocalypse, and history themed. For example, in the fantasy genre, big game titles like Baldur's Gate III (2023) Black Myth: Wukong (2024), Dragon Age™: The Veilguard (2024), The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered (2025) transport players to expansive, magical worlds with rich lore and heavy historical elements. Sci-fi games such as Starfield (2023), HELLDIVERS™ 2 (2024), and Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 (2024) explore futuristic settings filled with advanced technology and roaming alien environments with their unique technology. Post-apocalyptic games like 7 Days to Die (2024), and The Last of Us™ Part II Remastered (2025) depict ravaged worlds where mutated creatures will attack players and that survival is the key to winning. In the historical setting, Kingdom Come: Deliverance II (2025), Assassin’s Creed Shadows (2025), and Ghost of Tsushima DIRECTOR'S CUT (2024) offer players a chance to experience historical real-world events and eras.

Figure 2: A "hydro-geo-graphic map" of South and Southeast Asia. (Bonne, 1771)
While these settings are diverse and engaging, none of them truly dive into Southeast Asia's history, which is rich with its own unique narratives and cultures. There are few games that explore historical events from an Asian perspective, with exceptions like Ghost of Tsushima (2024) and Total War: Three Kingdoms (2019). However, the broader scope of Southeast Asia's history, including its interwar history, cultures, and complex conflicts, remains underrepresented in mainstream games. It would be refreshing to see more titles that dive deeper into these untold stories, offering a new kind of immersive experience to the global audience.
Figure 3: Old photo of Petaling Street, Kuala Lumpur, Malaya. (taurus064, 2012)
Hence, I decided to create a game environment depicting my home country, Malaya (modern-day Malaysia) during the British colonial period, just before the Second World War. By focusing on Malaya, the game can shed light on the lived experiences of local communities under colonial rule, and explore how Asian and Western cultures blended to form a unique identity. It also gives voice to perspectives that are often overlooked in mainstream historical narratives, which tend to favour Western Europe or the more globally recognised Asian countries like China, Japan, and India. Malaya's rich mix of ethnicities, traditions, and colonial encounters offers fertile ground for immersive storytelling and a fresh world for players to discover.
I also hope that by creating this project, I can bring greater awareness of my home country and share some level of education about its past with both my fellow countrymen and the rest of the world. It is also a way to remind my fellow Malaysians to remember our history and stay connected to our roots, appreciating where we come from and how far we have come.

Spirit, Valor, and Knowledge Teaser
SVK is my original story. I’ve been worldbuilding for it for about seven years under the working title “heroes story”, which longtime followers have probably seen mention of at some point. It’s gone through several iterations over the course of that time and has changed a significant amount from the initial attempts.
The current manuscript is partially incomplete and will need to go through thorough edits, but I’m hoping to release early chapters for beta readers later this fall or winter, with the goal of ensuring that the representation I’ve included is done as well as possible for a queer hick from the rural midwest.
All characters and content are my original creations and are open to improvement. Feedback is appreciated and will encourage further content release.

The cat was nosing in Theo’s paint again, bothering him for a scratch. He loved the insufferable creature, but damn if it didn’t seek affection at the worst of times. Careful to balance it properly, he set aside his pallet and rubbed Carnie’s ears. The wind blew cold even in the summer season, and Theo pulled his coat tighter around him, trying to keep paint off of it and the cat as best he could.
He took a moment to warm his hands in its long orange fur and look over what he had completed so far. The rough textures of the worn brick and concrete buildings of the city east of the commune were a good challenge; the crumbling asphalt road with its faded remnants of yellow and white leading outwards tested his skill at displaying perspective.
Mx. Jordanes had assigned him to sketch the same scene last year. More of the shoulder of the road had deteriorated since then, doubling the size of the pothole, and one of the telephone poles had rotted through in the spring. It had taken fifteen able adults to move, clearing the way further to the fourth stoplight down, where things became 4th Street territory. The stop lights still cycled through their colors, directing the ghost of traffic. Once, they had been the pulse of the city. Theo thought he might catch them all at different colors. Some red and yellow would really brighten up the scene.
He was putting down a base of orange on the furthest one when he noticed the change. A cluster of dots in the distance had come around a corner and were making their way down the road: two of them black and two of them gray. Two travellers, he assumed, being escorted to Slateset by 4th Life Strays, who claimed the 4th Street territory. The Strays were usually good about sending survivors their way, but as they came closer Theo could see the strange make of their clothes. The gray figures were bundled in swathes of cloth over every inch of their body, hoods pulled low over their faces, while the dark coated pair were marked at the shoulders, the taller one by red and the shorter by violet. They were packed too lightly for real wandering, but they didn’t look like Kings either. Certainly they wouldn’t have come through 4th Street if they were.
Theo painted his stoplights as he waited for them to come in calling distance of the barrier wall he was perched on, and began packing away his brushes for deeper cleaning.
If they were Darksiders he was as good as dead already. They didn’t look the type, no guns or bows as far as he could see, but Theo adjusted the hatchet hanging from his belt so the steel caught the light just in case.
“Hail!” cried the violet-marked woman, her dark face turned up to look at him against the sun. A long scar ran vertical on the right side of her face from jawline to cheekbone.
“Hello,” he replied. The wind picked up bitterly, and he had to raise his voice significantly to be heard. It was possible someone else from the commune would hear him and come to investigate. Carnie the cat didn’t care for his yelling or for the sudden cold and trotted off down the wall without him. “Did the Bosses give you passage through 4th Street?”
The woman’s reply was stolen by a cold gust. “We met no one on the road here,” she said, louder this time. “We are glad to see someone left alive. Are there more of you?”
“We’re all glad to be alive these days,” he replied, to avoid answering her directly. “Do you need food or medical attention?”
The woman shared a look with one of the hooded figures and discussed something between them. “Your company is all we would request. We have come from far away, and we have many questions as to how this place came to be in such a state. If you would come down and speak to us, we would be grateful.”
Theo weighed the risk. She didn’t talk like a local, she wasn’t lying about that. Their clothes, especially the gray cloaks, were exceedingly clean for someone who had been on the road for any stretch of time, and both she and her redmarked companion would freeze to death if they spent the night outside. They didn’t even have gloves. Still, they didn’t seem like Darksiders, and they had made no threat to him. If they had news from any distance the council would want to speak to them immediately. It had been more than a year since they’d had news from as far as the next state over, and there would be a hundred questions to ask anyone from further.
No, they hadn’t threatened him yet. It would be safer and smarter to test that before bringing them back to his home. “No, I’m staying up here,” he shouted. “Ask whatever you want, but do it from down there.”
They showed no sign of aggression at his refusal, though the women turned and conferred with her companions again. “What is the name of this place?” she asked.
Theo frowned. He leaned over, holding onto the ledge, just to check that his memory was correct. Below his feet in letters five feet tall, Slateset: The First Solar Supermall was proudly printed in bold emerald script. They’d taken down the plastic decals to clean and repaint only two weeks before. Mx. Jordanes had organized the effort, and Theo was still finding green paint behind his ears.
Maybe they were illiterate. Or, more likely, there was some obvious reason for the confusion that Theo was overlooking somehow. Either way, he said, “This is the Slateset Commune.” He pointed back the way they had come, then westward towards the mountains. “That’s all Fourth Street until you hit the residentials, and past us you’re in the King’s Republic.”
“Theo!” Still in his work clothes, Jack Kindley jogged over from the farmyard. “We heard yelling, you alright?” The barrier wall was set against a hill, leaving Jack only a few feet below him as opposed to the height he spoke with the strangers from.
“I’m fine Mr. Kindley, only there are some people here that say they’re from out of town.”
Jack’s face brightened with surprise. “Out of town? How far out of town?” He began to scale the wall next to Theo, heaving himself up by wrapping his arms around the edge, and looked down at the four travellers. “You come from out Kansas way? 73 still a bandit nest?”
The man with red on his coat answered them in a deep tone that cut through the wind like a knife. “We only came west recently,” was all he said.
Jack glanced to Theo, adjusting his grip on the wall. “They look like trouble to you?”
“Nah, I think they’re just odd. They came from 4th Street, though, and they said they weren’t stopped by any Strays. That sounds like trouble to me.”
The older man frowned and nodded, peering over the ledge again. “You guys got any weapons?”
The woman with the scar and her tall friend pulled out a large sword and an axe with a long, black blade. She presented it oddly, as if she were offering it up to be taken or showing it off, and the man did much the same with his blade. The hooded figures were supposedly defenseless. Jack seemed to think it as strange as Theo did, but he nodded all the same. “Alright then, guess you can’t shoot the place up. Let’s get you in where it’s warm.”

There's A TTRPG For That!
Some ttrpgs I think might be worth exploring, if you're looking at sci-fi/fantasy genres about rebellion, reform and post-apocalypse:
Detente for the Ravenous, by A.A. Voigt: The Cold War if Henry Kissinger was the Pope. About colonized peoples organizing to bring down the Kaiju-as-metaphor for colonialist and capitalist attempts to consume the world around them, it feels heavily inspired by Heart, Babel, and F.I.S.T..
Rising Tide, by cosmicbeagle: A PARAGON playset about ecojustice pirates striking back against oil companies and other multi-conglomerates by destroying their assets while on the high seas.
Hunting Billionaires for Sport, by hexavexagon: A game where hunting billionaires is a legitimate practice that provides a media company with plenty of profits due to the popularity of live-streaming these hunts. You are some of those hunters, going up against everything those billionaires throw at you.
Apocalypse Roadtrip, by Mynar Lenahan: In a world overtaken by aliens, cryptids, kaiju, and secret government entities, your home has quickly fallen apart. Travel from place to place keeping each-other alive using whatever technology you can get your hands on.
Red Markets, by Hebanon Games: The zombie apocalypse happened and we just kind of... kept going. Try to make a living while on the wrong side of the economy by recovering proof that certain people died, so that your employers can claim the contents of their wills.
Sea Legs, by Jack Blair: The rich have left our climate apocalypse behind. We are left with a world where most cities have sunk beneath a rising ocean. You are a crew scavenging in order to keep your community alive, and sometimes fighting with others to get precious resources.
Many of the entries of Applied Hope: The Solarpunk & Utopias jam might also be up your alley, including Sunstained, by Mythworks, Green Skies, by SmallRedRobin13, and How to Ooze Charm into the Future, by Paul Czege.
I'm going to be honest, I think that cyberpunk was probably pretty innovative when it started off in the 1980s but now it (and it's various "punk" spinoffs) just kind of linger over the science fiction genre like a miasma and it's time for someone to come up with something new.

5 Insanely Underrated (Dark) Queer Book Recs for Your TBR (No Spoiler Reviews!)
I ain’t gonna beat around the bush, folks--this post has been a long time coming. Over the past year, I have somehow stumbled into my new favorite genre, leaving the careful days of YA comforting fantasy reads behind (but not forgotten!). I used to never be one for the dark, grisly, and not so man-made horrors beyond comprehension. But with the help of time, mind devouring storytelling, and gut wrenching emotions the world loves to carve out of us all, tastes have changed! So without further ado, let me recommend 5 of my favorite (darker) queer reads of 2022. Titles are linked to official Goodreads summaries while I have included my no-spoiler reviews below.
Some of these are horror, some fantasy, some tragedy, and most a mix of the above. As the new year draws closer, if you’re feeling ready to branch out (or branch in!!) please consider giving these severely underrated titles a read. And support lesser known authors while you’re at it!
As the title of the post implies, these books tend to brew darker than your average cup ‘a joe. So please heed included trigger warnings and take care!
1. You Will Love What You Have Killed by Kevin Lambert
(Original title: Tu aimeras ce que tu as tué. English Translation by Winkler Donald).
Genres: Adult Fiction, Horror, Canadian Literature, Queer AF
Review: If you’re not a fan of blood, gore, and every horror under the dying sun, scroll away now. Starting off incredibly strong and incredibly twisted with French-Canadian Lambert’s debut novel, You Will Love What You Have Killed, this novel is neither for the faint of heart nor some of the hard of heart. I went into this book knowing next to nothing about what was in store and left somehow feeling more empty than before. As arguably the darkest and most gory book on the list, this surrealist take on childhood rage and post-humous revenge on the town that discarded you before you had a chance to fight back is bound to haunt you long after you’ve finished it. Lambert’s own style of dark and nauseatingly twisted humor will either seal the deal for you, or leave you running for the hills. To be honest, I loathe this book as much I appreciate the queer, surrealist landscape of apocalyptic vengeance. Brownie points for being flat-out strange.
Content Warnings: if you can think of it, chances are its here. loads of death and murder, including that of children, suicide; ableism; homophobia, transphobia; pedophilia, rape, sexual abuse, explicit sexual descriptions, abortion, necrophilia; animal abuse, killing of animals; child abuse, emotional abuse and verbal abuse (by the narrator); cancer; 9/11 (comprehensive list via Ashton on GoodReads)
2. Hell Followed With Us by Andrew Joseph White
Genres: YA Fantasy, Horror, Sci-Fi/Dystopian, Queer AF
Blurb: In this world on the brink of man-made/god-induced apocalypse, trans-boy Benji has to fight not only to survive a hellscape determined to burn itself to the ground, but also his own role in bringing about the End. Hell Followed With Us is a queer rage manifesto, the gospel for those forced to become monsters by the same society that weaponized and then condemned them for being such. White’s novel not only brought healing to a large part of my own religious trauma, but it helped me embrace the very “monster” the so called righteous would have damned. Because when the world will villianize you anyway, revolution may very well be embracing the monster within--the monster the world forced into being. This one is definitely a keeper, and definitely a re-reader. The character diversity in this book is incredible, also for the simple fact that it isn’t forced or seemingly “trying to meet a quota”, and for canonically calling out [redacted].
Content Warnings: For a comprehensive list courtesy of the author himself, please visit his website here.
3. Things Have Gotten Worse Since We Last Spoke by Eric LaRocca
Genres: Adult Fiction, Horror/Psychological Thriller, Short-Stories, Queer AF
Blurb: Shorter but no less impactful than the rest, Things Have Gotten Worse Since We Last Spoke is a twisted foray into the psychology of human obsession. After reading the blurb, I tried to prepare myself for the following unease and depravity I was promised. And god was that promise delivered on a silver poisoned platter. Set to the backdrop of chat forums and online messaging, LaRocca weaves a sadomasochistic love story between two women searching for deeper connection. But love isn’t exactly the right word, is it? After all, things can only get worse from the start. Suffice to say, wholesome does not live in these pages. And I need more.
Content Warnings: animal cruelty/death, body horror, gore, mental/emotional abuse, exploration of kink, very toxic example of a dom/sub relationship.
4. Angels Before Man by Rafael Nicolás
Genres: Adult Fantasy, Mythology Retelling, Romance, Paranormal, Queer AF
Blurb: I try not to pick favorites on list recs, but as my most recent read of the year, Nicolás’ debut novel has quickly been shelved in my mind and heart’s hall of fame. Angels Before Man is a queer retelling of the fall of Lucifer from a paradise that may not be as, well, paradise as it seems. With narrative prose so poetic that epics of the ancient world come to mind, and themes of religious rebellion and queer rage reminiscent not only of other novels on this list but also the lives of countless individuals whose love warns at revolution, Angels Before Man tells the story of the greatest disobedience Heaven had to face: the creation of sin, born from the first love that turned a jealous god to rage. As ABM only released weeks ago, I sincerely hope it’s only the beginning for this book and author. Bible? Who needs her. The Word of God? I don’t even know her. I’ve got Angels Before Man. And so will my friends because I’m gifting them this heavenly-gem (heh, see what I did there?) for the holidays.
Content Warnings: Courtesy of the author himself (list also included at start of book): Blasphemy, off-page sexual assault with related internal monologue post-incident, Self-harm, Atypical depiction of grooming, Animal death, Abuse (emotional, physical), Sexual content, Body horror, Graphic depictions of violence, Incestuous term use, Potential correlation to homosexuality being sinful, Depictions of mental instability
5. Siren Queen by Nghi Vo
Genres: Historical Fiction, Historical Fantasy, Magic Realism, Queer AF
Blurb: Of the 5 recs on the list, I have to be honest and say with full disclosure that this is my one cheat as I have not actually finished it yet. But as I can attest from the 60% progress I have made, along with two of my close friends who recommended her in the first place, Siren Queen is a breath of fresh air in a genre that is understandably stifling at times. Interweaving the monstrous industry of Hollywood with actual monsters, Siren Queen explores the sacrifices made and prices paid for the chance at stardom and just being seen, all while embracing the monster society demands of us. Largely character-driven, this book has been a slower read than the rest, but its commentary on workers’ rights and inequalities, among other social issues often at the forefront of WASPish-run Hollywood, has kept me engaged since the start.
Content Warnings: racism, racial slurs, fatphobia, violence, family violence, homophobia, sexism, drug abuse, addiction.
