The Garden of Me
McKenna, our painting blogger, shares some of the symbolism behind the flowers that appear in a recent commissioned artwork featuring a reclining nude figure. The work, titled, The Garden of Me, explores empowerment and love. #MarywoodArt #painting #art
In today’s post, I explain a commissioned painting I completed at the end of last semester. The painting includes themes of empowerment, femininity, and love. To begin, this piece is titled The Garden of Me. This is a play on the Garden of Eden and its biblical meaning. The garden was a paradise, yet sin was still able to emerge. As the LGBTQ+ community is described as sinful by Christians, this…

Close your eyes, count to three, and make a wish! No, not out loud, silly!
Tumblr media
I've always had to share this day, but being with my friends, I still get to feel extra-special.
Happy Birthday Joker and Punch Carder!
The planet has taken another trip around the sun, and we've once again reached the twins' birthday! They're ready to take their symbolic flights of honor (albeit nervously, in Joker's case) and make their wishes for the year ahead!
About their broomquets:
Joker's bouquet contains red roses, lily of the valley, white and orange daffodils, deep orange gerbera daisies, and a few sprigs of pussywillow. Red roses are probably the most closely associated with the Queendom of Roses, and are known to symbolize passion and romance. Lily of the valley are there to symbolize good luck, harmony, and prosperity. Daffodils represent a fresh start and joy. Orange gerberas stand for happiness, friendship, and warmth. And pussywillows are indicative of prosperity, springtime, and unconditionality.
Punch's bouquet contains lilacs, white roses, lavender, and blue eucalyptus; all plants noted for their strong fragrances. Lilacs are a symbol of renewal, but also symbolize confidence. White roses are indicative of a new beginning and hope, and also show his ties to the Queendom of Roses. Lavender flowers are said to represent devotion, calmness, and a higher purpose. And eucalyptus is used to remove negative energy, as well as representing strength and abundance.
It's my birthday, too! And they may not fly, but my family gave me white mums and orange roses, just as lovely!🧡🧡🧡

Akagami No Shirayukihime ED 2 Flower Analysis
Hello! Hi! Yes, I'm back on my bs with flower language in ANS nonsense and this time I tried looking into the flowers depicted in the ending sequence of the second season. This was made thanks to the gorgeous ending post that's been going around again so thank you OP for that! The beauty of the ED NEEDS to be appreciated!
Anyway, let's get into the flower analysis and their meanings 🌸 though keep in mind I can't 100% identify all flowers correctly etc etc...and be aware that Japanese flower language may differ from the Western one sometimes so I will provide both versions. Cheers!
Tumblr media
Starting with the first panel:
Shirayuki with her signature Yura Shigure
nothing much can be said about this besides Shigure being Shirayuki's fictional flower. The flower's whole deal is "if planted in the wrong place, it becomes toxic to other nearby flowers", it is also considered a very delicate and unusually beautiful flower.
Kiki & Mitsuhide
NOW this is super interesting because MITSUKIKI HAS PINK ROSES ON KIKI'S SIDE!! BUT YELLOW ONES ON MITSUHIDE'S!! THAT IS HUGE CAUSE!!!!
Pink Roses: in JP flower language Pink Rose signifies grace and is considered a very ladylike flower. They are usually given as a "Thank you". In the Western language Pink Rose similarly symbolizes gratitude, appreciation and admiration - but also romantic feelings and overall innocent love.
Yellow Roses: in JP Yellow Rose is considered as a sign of jealousy BUT much more often a sign of courage and inner strength. Fundamentally, Yellow Rose means friendship, devotion and self-sacrifice. Perfect flower for Mitsuhide.
Tumblr media
Panel 2 featuring Obi, Ryuu, Garak and Kihal has more flowers + two ANS fictional herbs
Obi
Orange Carnations: Carnations are globally considered a "sweet love" flower, though orange ones symbolize happiness, warmth, determination and other positive emotions. They tend to represent health, balance and success - Orange Carnations are given as a celebratory flower but can also mean a refusal.
Obi & Ryuu
These two share (Orange) Dahlias and possibly(?) African Daisies.
Orange Dahlias: in JP Dahlia symbolizes "good taste". Overall, Dahlias symbolize celebration, good relationships and resilience. Orange ones focus on determination and strength. The interesting thing about them is that they are associated with "standing out from the crowd" and "following your own path".
African Daisies: or Gerbera symbolize optimism and loyalty, especially white ones that are drawn in the panel mean - hope and high esteem for someone.
Garak
Roka Fruit, ANS specific plant, associated with alcohol. Good for you Garak.
Kihal
Possibly(?) Chrysanthemums OR Dahlias again.
Chrysanthemums: ironically in JP Chrysanthemum is a sign of the Imperial/Royal Family...symbolizing the Sun and light, also longevity. The split of Red and Yellow there is questionable because Red Chrysanthemums mean love BUT Yellow ones mean sorrow and neglect - therefore these might not even be Chrysanthemums :/ though the flower as a whole just means rebirth and joy.
Tumblr media
Last Panel 3 - Raji/Sakaki (tho i think the flowers behind them belong more to Mihaya..), Mihaya, Izana and Zen!
Raji & Sakaki & Mihaya
Either Lilac or Phlox (??? big MAYBE here, its probably Lilac)
Lilac: in JP Lilac symbolizes growth and the promise of new beginnings. Quite literally Lilac is a living emblem of renewal. The "redemption" arc flower for the baddies. Purple Lilacs are a sign of early love, new emotions and confidence.
OR Phlox: literally means "We Think Alike", helps with family relationships, harmony and unity. Purple and Blue Phlox symbolize maturity and responsibility.
Mihaya
Irises: in JP Irises are considered a sign of good news and loyalty - convey a message of wisdom and honor. They are mostly associated with ambition and courage in the Western world.
Izana
Only thing I'm sure about is that these are Lilies by his side. Iconic Izana flower. The bush is giving Gardenia but not sure??
Lilies: in JP Lily is a flower of purity and rebirth. Very honorable flower used in all kinds of ceremonies and special occasions. Lilies are considered mythical and mysterious flowers in ancient times.
Gardenia: Globally means SECRET LOVE and admiration. Associated with trust, clarity and hope. Translates to "You Are Lovely". Damn Izana.
OR another possibility Sweet Mock Orange: literally means "misleading" thanks to its orange-like scent. Big symbol of Deceit. Sweet Mock Orange is a flower of BROTHERLY LOVE. Good.
Izana & Zen
Their shared flower is either Hydrangeas or Lacecap Hydrangeas specifically.
Hydrangeas: JP meaning is gratitude, pride and heartfelt emotion, occasionally considered as an apology. In Europe White Hydrangeas symbolize boasting and bragging - simply arrogance but also purity and and grace. Can be also considered a sign of good relationships because the petals grow so closely together.
OR Lacecap Hydrangeas: Popular display of humility. On the other hand, associated with estranged relationships because the petals grow apart from each other in contrast to the usual Hydrangeas.
Zen
Last flower(s) is Zen's Lavender or possibly Muscari!
Lavender: in JP Lavender is a flower of faithfulness/fidelity. Other meanings are devotion, serenity and contentedness. Typically Purple color is a color of royalty and luxury. It's not necessarily a romantic flower but rather a flower of comfort and cherishment.
OR Muscari: in JP directly translates to "bright future", although in Europe Muscari is a flower of disappointment. Its commonly used meanings are power, wisdom, and confidence. The flower carries "sympathies" and symbolizes trust and sincerity.
🌸
AND THAT'S IT FOLKS! Hope you enjoyed this lovely flower voyage as much as I did! Till next time I feel bored enough to rant about flower language with yall <3

✧・゚: *✧・゚:* 🦁LEONA BIRTHDAY SSR FLOWER ANALYSIS* 🦁*:・゚✧*:・゚✧
*Mandatory reminder that I’m no flower specialist, which means these are all very subjective opinions. Take everything with a grain of salt!
Before I can talk about Leona’s flowers I quickly want to give a bit of a deeper look into the colors of his bouquet and how they affect its meaning – with the reading of yellow flowers ranging from friendship, joy, and hope in Europe and America to honoring the dead in Mexico and Egypt to sacredness in China to representing royalty in and around India. Generally speaking, in Asia the meaning of wealth, royalty, hope and disappointment, abundance, and jealousy, are most likely what the cards’ artist was going for so keep that in mind while reading this!
In the Victorian Language of Flowers yellow roses were symbols of jealousy and greed – which is also true for their Japanese and Korean meaning, though in traditional Mexican culture they more commonly symbolize remembrance. By gifting someone yellow roses one would show a decrease in love, or subtly tell the recipient to “try to care more”, though nowadays they stand for friendship, happiness, joy, innocence, and appreciation, and are typically sent during birthdays, promotions and graduations. However, they could also be an apology for previous wrongdoings.
The more orange flower I believe to be a gaillardia or blanket flowers, which on one hand are associated with charm, abundance, aristocracy, and modesty, or on the other hand, with joy, optimism, and happiness. Because of their ability to thrive in all conditions, they stand for resilience and strength, courage, fearlessness, and even were a symbol of bravery and hope in the Victorian Language of Flowers.
While hibiscus flowers are associated with positivity and joy thanks to their vibrant colors, they’re also symbols of wealth, generosity, hospitality, and the upper class. They’re reminders to live in the moment and to seize opportunities as they come. In Chinese culture they’re gifted to represent how short lived the beauty of glory or fame is since they have a relatively short vase life.
Gerbera Daisies, or African Daisies, typically represent either beauty, or a happy life. They symbolize friendship and happiness, but mostly are gifted to someone recovering from an illness, or to cheer someone up. In Japan they stand for ultimate beauty, hope, and a way forward (often with a romantic connotation). Notably, in ancient Egypt they stood for a closeness to nature and devotion to the sun.
Zinnias are associated with endurance, remembrance, and thoughts of absent friends/friends you haven’t seen in a while. They bloom even in draughts or when plagued by bugs so they’re the perfect gift for someone with a strong mind.
Since crocuses are early blooming flowers they symbolize new beginnings and rebirth, though they’re also linked to wealth, power, and divinity. In Asia and the Middle East they stand for hope and a prosperous future.
The yellow flower with the thin leaves is a pincushion flower or protea which represents transformation, diversity, and courage. In the Victorian Language of Flowers they stand for unfortunate love, and in hanakotoba (the Japanese Language of Flowers) they mean “I have lost all.”
Finally, the dark purple/red flower in his bouquet is a cymbidium orchid. It stands for morality and virtue, as well as beauty, strength and opulence. Being gifted such a flower is an honor since they’re difficult to grow and care for. They hold a reputation of being luxurious, and are a symbol of power, respect, and admiration – in the Victorian Language of Flowers one of supreme luxury and wealth. They also convey a feeling of strength, absolute power, or authority.
Naturally, these are only my un-educated guesses considering I’m by no means a flower specialist so take everything with a grain of salt, and feel free to let me know if I got anything wrong/what flowers I might’ve missed.

Top five flowers?
Hi!!!
5. Bougainvillea or paperflower: this is a humble, delicate in appearance but also sturdy climbing shrub that will grow easily on small spaces, while also being very cheerful and ¿comforting?, which is probably the reason why it is called Santa Rita in Spanish. This flower IS late Spring/early Summer to me, and very beloved for both reasons.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
4. Ceibo: this is the national flower of both Uruguay and Argentina. I love the vibrancy of its color, the lantern-like shape of the flower, and the cascade-like flow of its branches.
Tumblr media
3. Roses: they are a classic for a reason, little explaining to do here. I prefer the orange varieties.
Tumblr media
2. Lillies of the valley: fascinating to me. So tiny, and pure, and delicate looking despite having such a thick, strong shape... so fresh and elegant yet simple...
Tumblr media
Gerberas: I don't know why I love them the most, but I do. I have so many memories of going with mom to the flower shop to pick flowers for church, and always, always ending up by the gerberas. To me it feels like every bit of love and praise daisies get is much more richly deserved by gerberas, with their deep colors and velvety texture. My very favorites are the hot pink ones:
Tumblr media
But all of them are lovely:

The language of flowers
Wei Wuxian loves gifting his husband flowers - but they're never randomly chosen. His bouquets have meanings, always - because the only item he has left from his mother is a book on the language of flowers. She used to tell him flowers aren't just pleasing to the eyes, they can also whisper to the heart. And as with the sparse memories he has of her, Wei Wuxian has kept these words close to his heart.
On his first date with Lan Wangji, he brought him a bouquet of blue hydrangeas. Gratitude, grace and beauty. He had attached a little note to it, explaining the meanings of the flowers and how they reminded Wei Wuxian of Lan Wangji's elegance and beauty, and how he had been grateful that Lan Wangji had asked him out on a date. He also added some advice on how to care for the flowers, and a lipstick stain kiss in the corner of the card, just to be cheeky.
On their one year anniversary, he brought Lan Wangji a bouquet of blue clematis flowers. The base petals shone a pretty, silvery white, and they layered upwards into shades of blue. Loyalty, courage, mental strength. It had not been an easy year, with their families disapproving of their relationship, the backlash of it, scandals after scandals. But they stayed true to one another and their love regardless.
They had two flower bouquets at their wedding. Both gentians. Justice and victory, prevailing through hardship. And a symbol for Lan Wangji's late mother, who would grow gentians in little flower pots and call them her windowsill garden.
When A-Yuan's adoption papers came in, both Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji made him a beautiful bouquet - sunflowers, gerberas, marigolds and daisies. Joy, happiness, optimism. He had kept telling them how much he loved flowers and how he wished to visit a field of colorful ones like he read in his story books. So they brought a patch of flower field to him when they picked him up, and stopped to laugh and chase one another in a lavender field on the way home.
Wei Wuxian wanted to open up a flower shop. Lan Wangji gifted him the key to his dream job into the petals of a red rose.
---
Lillies are fragrant, large flowers, white, pink or orange. Innocence, peace, beauty.
Orchids mean "I will always love you", everlasting devotion to the very end.
Gladioli symbolize strength of character, integrity, faithfulness.
Lan Wangji picks up two of each, and ties them separately with red and white ribbons.
They're beautiful, fresh, colorful.
He lays them onto Wei Ying's grave with A-Yuan.
"Do you think baba would like them?"
"Mn."
A-Yuan smiles, tearful, looking at the small oval picture of his baba on the tombstone. "I hope the flowers whisper something nice to him today."
Lan Wangji can't find it in himself to speak, the knot in his throat is too tight.
