I don't think hades is even top 5 roguelikes. I actually think, as roguelikes go, it's really shallow and boring (as a pretty-looking game with sexy characters, it's fine)

I think using summons in Elden ring IS a bad thing, not because of some 'git gud' shit-ass mentality but because the bosses AI can't handle having two targets on screen at once so it becomes a lot easier, a lot less interesting and the experience feels less polished.

Ghost of Tsushima is just as boring as any Assassins creed game and idk why it gets a pass when it is practically built 1:1 to those games.

Spiderman 2 was boring as shit and I realize I am getting tired of these on-rails lame-o experiences. Also the writing was shit.

Hiiiiii, I meant to post this yesterday but I forgot 😬

Quick note: I named Naoya’s mother/Naobito’s wife Tomoe. Another name I got from Ghost of Tsushima because I think it’s super pretty.

“Do anything fun for your birthday?”

“Same as always.” She sipped her wine absently again. “Mom made a cake. I had an exam, so nothing big on the day of.”

She despised making small talk with him. Answering questions he asked while he pretended to give a shit. Pretended he even knew how to be a father. He hadn’t even been a good father to Naoya before Tomoe died, and he had been planned.

“Strawberry cake?” Naobito asked, his smile growing. “That’s your favorite, right?”

“Yeah.”

It used to be a treat growing up. Her mother would let her pick one thing from the bakery for herself, even the cake with the very expensive strawberries.

She had to admit the fact he knew about that surprised her. He’d never paid attention or cared about her birthday when she was growing up, and she knew she hadn’t told him. Tomoe must have mentioned it at some point when she’d tried to get him to show interest in Rinko’s life.

“It’s- I’m never sure what to get you, so I thought you could use this on whatever you’d like.”

He slid the envelope toward her as he furrowed his brow.

The same thing for the past three years. She really didn’t expect anything from him. Didn’t want it after this long, either.

She wasn’t completely ungrateful, but she wouldn’t pretend that she didn’t still hate him. That the price of her childhood without a father was a few expensive dinners and envelopes of cash on holidays and birthdays. She couldn’t be bought. He couldn’t get her to act like everything up until a few years ago never happened.

I mentioned something about this on the stream the other night, since in Stardew your dad sends you money occasionally 😂

So the first thing I like is baking. I haven't been doing it a lot lately, but I really like baking, especially like decorating and shit (just not with fondant bc that's gross). Made a nice strawberry biscuit roll a few days back, 10/10 highly recommend.

Secondly I like reading. I'm currently rereading frankenstein and I'm having so much fun with it tbh. I also have a bunch of other books I'm currently reading, but if anyone here like thriller/horror I really recommend Sebastian Fitzek! He's German author whose works I've been really enjoying lately. If you need a starting point, I'm currently reading "Der Inasse" (no idea what the english title is, im sure y'all can find it), it's pretty neat so far.

Third thing is video games in general. I have many games that I have made amazing memories with, that I replay atleast once a year. I started playing Ghost of Tsushima recently, and it's pretty good so far, feels a lot like an assassins creed game. I'm also a big fan of animal crossing (new leaf ONLY), until dawn (choice based horror game), Final Fantasy, Persona 5, Farcry (3,4,5 specifically) and also a few call of duty games.

fourth I like sea creatures. I really fucking love sea creatures. I always have on day of the week booked for watching some random shit quality sea documentary, they're really interesting. Same goes for spiders, I really love spider. I've actually been taking care of this cute house spider in my room, like I'll just catch flies sometimes and give them to the little spidey.

fifth, I'm kinda running out of ideas here, but naruto tbh? I don't like the show as much as I when I was younger, but I do still watch it when i'm in a bad mood. It's like to a point where I know most of the episodes and can just start whereever, it doesn't require my attention for me to understand what's happening. It's definitely my main comfort shot (with Marble Hornets as a close second), and I also really enjoy buying bootleg naruto merch. Found this low quality shit naruto calender for 2024, I've already started noting appointments in there.

the game Ghost of Tsushima regularly reminds you what the Mongol invasion is doing to the people of Tsushima. a lot of screentime and dialogue is dedicated to peasants begging the player for help, fleeing their villages as refugees, being charred and tortured corpses, and so on. Despite this, it always felt like the game was simultaneously completely unconcerned with them.

At the very start of the game, your character expresses discomfort with looting a house for supplies. Your companion reasonably points out that you're in the middle of an invasion site, so the owners are obviously not coming back. But, from that moment on, your character has no qualms with taking *any* supplies he can find, including taking them from peasants *within arms' reach*! You can walk up to a refugee's cart of belongings and steal from them in front of their face, and nobody says a thing. And okay, you're a Lord and they're a peasant, perhaps it's a disco elysium type of thing and they are simply afraid of complaining. But why does the player character suddenly have no concerns with this behavior immediately after having concerns about this behavior?

When you liberate a farmstead from the Mongols you get a little cutscene showing a bunch of people suddenly returning and going right back to work in high spirits. Rarely, one of them will be crying and presumably mourning someone, but never do they seem to share my personal worry about the impact of the destroyed livestock and crops and fellow workers on their ability to live their lives for the next year.

The Masako questline involves the revenge killing of Masako's sister, and right before you cut a bloody swathe through her guardsmen, your character notes with interest that she's turned her estate into a haven for refugees, and you even see some. But the moment that quest is complete, the entire estate is completely empty! Where did those refugees go? Are they going to be okay? Did they run in fear from the horrible violence I was inflicting on the people who helped them, only to get killed by the Mongols on the road later? Why does my character suddenly stop caring about them the moment they leave the screen?

I think it's very telling that they are all only ever named "Peasant" in the subtitles, even the ones you have multiple conversations with. Their suffering is just a prop, a way to signify that your character is a good guy.

And like, lots of games don't give a shit about the common people, fine. But it's much less common for those games to also spend so much of their time telling you how much they *do* care about the common people! I think that discrepancy is weird, and I couldn't stop noticing it from start to finish.

It's quite jarring to see how much love and passion was put into msm1, and in msm2 you can FEEL Sony breathing down on Insomniac's neck. It's not the worst AAA game, I've seen other triple A titles that ended up way worse due to corporate meddling. And all things considered, msm2 ended up being good despite the obvious flaws in its execution, compared to other titles that had a similar fate. Still, doesn't mean it's not a shame that they didn't have more creative control over the project. I'd love to see a director's cut. pc port maybe? Ghost of Tsushima got the director's cut treatment for the pc port despite the game having a positive reception

Yeah, this is exactly how I feel about MSM2, esp in comparison to MSM1 tbh - it's definitely not the total disaster that is the worst Spider-Man thing ever like the fanboys are arguing (and their arguments are like, ridiculous and not actual problems), and overall, it's still quite good and I like most of it, all things considered, but it's a shame that there was obvious corporate meddling that put undue pressure onto the creative team and developers to get the game out before it was truly ready to be released and forced them to cut a lot of content to make the deadline; I absolutely feel like the last third of the game especially felt really rushed and like it jumped from major event to major event and went around in circles without any breathing room, and outside of all the time devoted to Harry and Peter at the beginning, a lot of characters and relationships felt undeveloped compared to the first game, and I don't think it had to be that way.

Like, I definitely didn't expect, say, Peter and Curt's relationship to get the same level of development as Peter and Otto, but I expected more than a quick intro where they barely talk before Curt disappears for hours of gameplay until the Lizard plot, and it's frustrating knowing that Curt had a bigger and more active role in the early script outline that also addressed some of my issues with him in the final game, ie. barely doing anything for the symbiote plot despite being the symbiote expert outside of some phone calls that go nowhere versus originally actively researching the symbiote to help Peter and proactively keeping it out of Oscorp's hands and helping create the Anti-Venom suit with Mister Negative.

But yeah, it's a shame bc I absolutely would have rather waited for longer to get the truly finished game the developers wanted to release than the rushed by corporate one we're stuck with and isn't their best or intended work, through no fault of the creative team, bc yeah, unless they do a director's cut, this is all we're getting bc it's too late to redevelop the entire game through updates and patches; like, it's not just the major writing and gameplay issues, it's also frustrating that they dropped things like the social media feed, character bios, podcast archives, etc. that made MSM1 fun and developed.

That said, I feel like Insomniac really wants to move on from MSM2, which is probably also partly due to the leaks as much as corporate, bc yeah - no DLCs so far or even announcements about them, updates that have mostly been weird suits no one likes, the weirdness of giving into fan demand for a Venom game bc they bitched so much about Eddie Brock not being Venom and wanting Lethal Protector shit (like, I'm not a fan of Insomniac's Venom bc it seems like they didn't know what they wanted to do with him exactly, but come on, let it go at this point), the art book being delayed and not having as much textual content, no script book, etc. - it feels like such a stark difference from the energy around the first game, and I hope corporate steps back for the third and hopefully final game after what happened here, but I doubt Sony will have learned their lesson.

The intersection between the less complicated something is to make and release and the longer it has existed as a medium entirely dictates how likely it is for someone's favorite to be one you've never heard of before. Most obvious in music (relatively simple to both produce and publish, existed for basically all of history, most people will tell you their favorite song is one you weren't aware existed), and video games (moderately difficult to produce and to show people, existed in its modern format for about 30 years, everyone's favorite game is something like Ghost of Tsushima or some Fallout shit that everybody knows already)
