what are your headcanons in regards to when alice and jasper first met the cullens? what was the cullen’s reactions? were they intimidated by jasper, confused by alice? how long did it take for jasper to get comfortable?

I mean, alice timing her and jasper's arrival so that emmett and edward weren't around has always been suuuper telling. because like, yeah. I fucking BET that if alice and jasper showed up out of nowhere with everyone home, between emmett's 'think now act later' tendencies and edward being able to see into jasper's head (which I'm sure was full of tense, uncomfortable "if it comes down to it I can just kill them and we can dip" thoughts), in combination with the entire family just taking one LOOK at jasper, it would not have gone smoothly in any way 💀

I mean, in breaking dawn even BELLA perceives jasper as a scary/dangerous threat on an instinctual level that she hardly understands!! and he's her best friend's husband! who she's known for over a year!!! no matter how much he's chilling out the atmosphere there's no way esme, rosalie, and carlisle aren't at least a liiiittle nervous about him. alice could have shown up nude and covered head-to-toe in human blood and i'm confident they would have still been more uneasy about jasper. (don't mind me linking more of g's posts. she's the only person I know who would have all this evidence documented lmfaooo ♡)

but thankfully, because of alice's and jasper's gifts, those two should be able to nail introductions 10 out of 10 times with a 100% success rate! if alice can pick the best possible route to take and jasper can keep the atmosphere light and relaxing, then they could probably charm their way through any 1950s entryway! I highly doubt jasper did the same midnight sun baseball scene camouflage, but I'm sure he did plenty of tension-smoothing.

I personally enjoy that they planned to show up when it was only carlisle, esme, and rosalie home. in midnight sun, alice fucking glomps edward (no, I won't apologize for using this word because I swear to god it's literally what she does) which he only responds positively towards because of their weird, instant psychic connection that lets her bombard him with LOOK-I-SWEAR-WE'RE-GONNA-BE-BEST-FRIENDS-I-LOVE-YOU-ALREADY visions. tbh, I think it's edward's absence specifically that alice probably needed. sure, emmett would've automatically perceived jasper as a threat alongside the rest of the family, but I bet that alice knew that if she could just get jasper through the door, and get carlisle to hear them out, then dealing with edward (and his ability to see what goes on in that nightmare's jasper's brain) would be muuuuch easier.

to answer your more specific questions: rosalie was definitely the very last person to be "okay" with their presence, but I'm sure she was fine with alice first, and that it took emmett to get her to be okay with jasper, too. it probably took jasper ages to adjust to living peacefully alongside 5 strangers—I'm sure these difficulties were probably exacerbated by alice being comfortable and happy right off the bat. and i'm sure the reason that jasper finally calmed down and relaxed into his new life with the cullens had to do with a combination of his trust in alice, his respect for carlisle, and the improvements that vegetarianism had on his mental health (we, as a fandom, forget too quickly that this war criminal has a canonical eating disorder and that's so INTERESTING AND FUNNN)

Aiden Clark

A = Affection

Aiden is really affectionate with Ash, he has a hard time keeping in how he feels about her so he's constantly complimenting her, touching her, kissing her if she will let him, etc etc. He's just soooo in love with her he can't keep it in- 🫠

B = Best Friend

Ngl Aiden was like the closest thing Ash had to a best friend before they started dating 🤡 he's not that different besides the fact that he can keep his emotions a little more in check (like friend boundaries). Very protective, encouraging, and does his best to listen ^_^

C = Cuddles

Bless him he is touch starved and cuddling is like a feast to him. He LOVES cuddling. Definitely clingy and likes rubbing her arms or back. Man ascends whenever Ash glomps him.

D = Domestic

Aiden likes the idea of settling down, he would like to live with Ash at some point, especially cuz he grew up in an empty house. It's kinda unfortunate since he sucks really hard at domestic tasks 💀 he's never had to cook or clean a day in his life and he's not very inclined to learn lmao. He's super messy and pretty much banned from the kitchen 😭

E = Ending

Um he would literally rather die 🫠 he will fight tooth and nail to be with her and if he HAD to break up with her it would be like, under pressure that somebody was going to kill her or smth 😭 and then he'd kill the person who threatened her and go get his girl back.

F = Fiancé

He doesn't really care about getting married as long as Ash stays with him :P He likes how his ring looks on her finger tho.

G = Gentle

He's not very good at that haha. He's very...um, intense with all his feelings oop- He's not very good at being soft (verbally/emotionally) in the moment, it's something he needs to give thought too. He can be pretty tender physically tho, likes to kiss her forehead :)

H = Hugs

Loves loves loves hugging, especially if Ash initiated. Totally into squeeze hugging and lifting her off her feet. He kinda hovers around her in public and puts his arm around her so he's constantly "loose hugging" her.

I = I love you

He said it pretty quickly. He doesn't see why he should hide how he feels :p. He probably said it when she was just doing smth, like with no buildup or anything. It was just a very sudden feeling on his part and he vocalised it right away

J = Jealousy

Pretty consistently 🤡 he has attachment issues can you blame him? 😭 (you can). Very not cool with other people (that he doesn't know) talking, touching, hanging out with Ash and he will be hate-watching them the entire time. With Ash he gets a lot clingier and starts complimenting her even more, but if Ash gets weirded out/annoyed by it he tends to react pretty poorly and can get upset with her.

K = Kisses

His kisses vary, but they can be kinda aggressive/intense? lmao. He is just having BIG FEELINGS and he needs to express himself- if hes stressed he'll just. Grab her face and mash their mouths together (jumpscares Ash fr) He really does not care where he kisses Ash like everything is good for him, but when Ash kisses him first on the mouth that's soooo... he goes to heaven fr.

L = Little Ones

Pretty good with children actually! He has some experience with Lily and he vibes pretty well with kid energy, especially if they're hyperactive like him lol. Great with games and stuff. Babies like him a lot for some reason, they always start laughing when he holds them.

M = Morning

He gets up at like 4am all the time to do crap because he's an insomniac. Usually goes to exercise or play a video game/puzzle. Ash is not a morning person, but sometimes she can convince him to crawl back into bed and snuggle 😌

N = Night

He does go to bed really late 💀 He has an EXTREMELY hard time falling asleep so he just stays up till he passes out. Ash and him have been trying stuff to help him sleep better so they drink tea and talk to each other without looking at their phones.

O = Open

Absolutely not open with his history lol. he pretty much blocks out most of his past and he won't talk about it unless Ash insists or he feels like he needs to tell her to clarify his feelings. Doesnt say more than he needs to.

P = Patience

He has none for everything 🤡 he hates waiting, he hates putting in a lot of effort into something, he hates spending a long time on anything- (except his friends). He kinda has some hidden anger issues, he looks really easy going but like fr. He has problems.

Q = Quizzes

UM it's kinda creepy how much he remembers about Ash 😭 He has an entire space in his brain dedicated to her. He knows how she likes her coffee, her daily schedule, the exact time of her birth...he likes knowing about her sue him.

R = Remember

It's hard to pick his favourite memory cuz he's such a fan of her, even during the time she kinda hated him :> One of his top moments would probably be when she first said "I love you" back to him though.

S = Security

He's soooooo overprotective, the first time he saw her get seriously injured it was his fault and he never let that go. He knows Ash can handle herself but he still wants to keep her safe if he can!!! If somebody hurts her they are never seeing the light of day again ^_^ He always swoons a little when Ash tries to protect him too.

T = Try

His relationships are like one of the only things he actually puts effort in so. He spends a lot of time thinking on gifts, what they can do on dates, etc etc if it involves Ash. Helps her around the house if she lets him.

U = Ugly

He has sooooo many bad habits. He's super addict prone and his BPD means he will do a lot of self-sestructive stuff. Smoker (he hates it), drinker (he hates it even more), joyrider extraordinaire (just kill him now) :/ Working on it at his therapy sessions but he relapses sometimes.

V = Vanity

...I mean, he's concerned about how he looks, but not in a "looking good" way. He dyes his hair consistently because he wants to look like that, same with his contacts. Otherwise he's not like doing beauty routines for his skin or anything lol.

W = Whole

Yes he has an unhealthy attachment to Ash so he would feel incomplete without her 🫠

X = Xtra

Ash isn't his first 'relationship' but she is the first one where he actually felt something. He was pretty easy going so if somebody asked him to be their partner he almost always said yes, but he never seriously cared about any of them...🫠 Ghosted people a lot when he moved oop

Y = Yuck

He knows he has a lot of issues so like he's not gonna judge somebody a lot if they have their own vices. He would probably dislike if Ash started acting like himself lmao (you hate somebody because they reflect the worst parts of yourself) 🫠 For smth she actually does, he doesn't really like how cold she can be sometimes, but he knows she can't help it so he doesn't comment on it.

Z = ZZZ

Sleeps with like 4 different blankets and he doesn't really like wearing pyjamas, he'd sleep in his boxers if he could. The blankets are like, good texture stim on his skin :D

Ashlyn Banner

A = Affection

Not good with it let's be real. Still figuring out her boundaries and what she's comfortable with. She generally just let's Aiden set the pace and if she doesn't like it she'll say something, but it's rare for her to initiate, when she does its usually something lowkey like holding his hand (prefers physical over verbal).

B = Best Friend

Ash hasn't had friends. Ever. Until suddenly she got five that she got bonded to for life 🤡 As a bestie she is generally very loyal and protective, even if she isn't very good with emotional stuff, she tries to show her support in whatever way she can.

C = Cuddles

Not really something she thinks about a lot? She doesn't mind cuddling with Aiden but he is very touchy so she gets overstimulated quickly. She prefers just lying on top of him without him grabbing her.

D = Domestic

She always imagined living by herself so the idea is a little intimidating ngl, but she's ready to give it a shot when the time comes :> Good at household chores, her parents are ex-military so she's well disciplined with making the bed, cleaning her area of the house, and she's a decent cook. Trying to teach Aiden how to do his own chores to since nobody ever taught him.

E = Ending

She would end things if she felt like Aiden wasn't getting better, she can't keep letting his bad behavior slide her entire life. Could see them getting a divorce if they had a kid together and he was still acting like that (we hope not). Definitely the type of exes to still see each other though, he's nothing if not persistent, and she can't quite seem to quit him ^_^"

F = Fiancée

She didn't even think she'd ever get married lol. She doesn't really care about labeling their relationship like that but she did ask him for tax reasons. And he was happy too, so that's a plus :>

G = Gentle

She's said it herself, she's not good at that. She's generally pretty brash with Aiden and she has a hard time being vulnerable. She's also not a very physically gentle person either, she usually initiates contact if she's stressed/upset so it's kinda intense. She's working on it!

H = Hugs

Pretty rare, she doesn't mind if Aiden hugs her, but Jesus, sometimes it feels like he's going to break her ribs 💀 Not that her hugs are much better tho 🫠 Tends to bury her face in his shoulder and grab his hair.

I = I love you

It's soooooo hard for her omg. She can't explain why she just feels really weird/dumb saying it 😭 she usually only says it during the heat of the moment. To compromise with Aiden, she usually writes it down on a sticky note and gives it to him. Writing is easier.

J = Jealousy

Sometimes the autism rejection sensitivity flares up haha 🫠 she's waaaaaay less jealous than Aiden but sometimes she wonders if she's just a passing fancy to him because he's so intense and quick about it (before reminding herself hes loyal to a fault). If other people talk about it (like if Aiden has been spending a lot of time with somebody) she's more likely to get jealous since she will kinda internalize their thoughts (like very "what...? Do you think I *should* be jealous?")

K = Kisses

Supremely awkward. Doesn't understand what she's supposed to do with her mouth aldhlwhd. She likes kissing his cheek because its a very simple gesture and he gets very happy. Will combust if Aiden kisses her forehead ❤️

L = Little Ones

Not the besttttt...she generally finds children to be too emotional and she doesn't understand what they're feeling. Babies are scary to her, they're so...delicate...

She doesn't hate them or anything but she's not volunteering to babysit.

M = Morning

She is CRANKY when she gets up and you can't talk to her before her cup of coffee or she's going to bite your head off. When she gets to sleep in she's waaaaay more affectionate in bed, grabs onto Aiden so he won't leave :p

N = Night

Night owl, which is useful since Aiden has trouble sleeping. She'll keep him company until he can fall asleep, but usually she falls asleep on his shoulder or smth and Aiden has to take her to bed ^_^

O = Open

Not at all. Doesn't like revealing more about herself than necessary :> She only tells Aiden things if he asks her about it. They're both very closed off which is great combo 💀

P = Patience

She's more patient than Aiden, but that isn't saying much. She gets irritated very easily but she's a lot better at managing her emotions so she doesn't lose her temper very easily, even if she's constantly annoyed.

Q = Quizzes

She's not forgetful or anything about Aiden but it's also not something she thinks about a lot. Like if somebody asked her smth about him she'll just answer it without thinking and be surprised with herself lol.

R = Remember

She just likes spending time with him, they don't have to do anything grand or amazing for it to stay in her memory, her favourite moments are the little things. Aiden genuinely laughing/smiling, the look on his face right before he figures out a puzzle, the calluses on his fingertips when she holds his hand...she's actually very sappy :>

S = Security

She is overprotective because. She watched him die. And she's just like that. But she constantly feels like she's failing him since Aiden gets hurt so frequently. Protective in a more subtle way, like if she thinks he's going to spiral she locks his meds away and won't leave him alone for anything. She gets stressed out when he tries to protect her because he can go overboard :p

T = Try

She tries so hard you guys. All of this is VERY new and scary for her, so. Baby steps. Tries to do her part in the relationship; she likes the act of planning dates even if choosing what to do stresses her out, tries to surprise him because she knows he loves that a lot (she's not very good at it).

U = Ugly

Bad habits: Sometimes everything is a lot so she will just. Not communicate with him for a long time which freaks him out. (Like he doesn't do this too 🫠) Hard time talking about her feelings and sometimes relies on the gang to solve their misunderstanding. Sometimes doesn't know where to draw the line and can be too harsh on him.

V = Vanity

Only her hair. She's very careful with it. Otherwise she doesn't care at all.

W = Whole

She's kinda bonded to him for life cuz of all the trauma so yeah she wouldn't feel "whole" without Aiden, but she would handle it a lot better than he would.

X = Xtra

Talks to Taylor about her relationship problems; Tay thinks she just has bad taste 🤡

Y = Yuck

Really hates all of Aiden's bad habits (the self destructive stuff, his own apathy towards himself, how obsessive he is with her)

Z = ZZZ

When she becomes comfortable sleeping with somebody on the same bed, she'll let her hair loose, otherwise she's gonna keep the braids.

Gary Stu: The ideal man/boy. Attractive, talented, and intelligent, with flaws that serve to highlight his perfection rather than being actual flaws. Often used as a term to refer to a male self-insert, as in, a male character who is seen as an avatar/insertion-into-the-story by a male author. See also: Mary Sue (pending).

Gaslight: A type of emotional/psychological manipulation. Read more about gaslighting.

Gatekeeping: Controlling/limiting access to [thing], where [thing] is a fandom, an individual, a definition or concept, or anything else that one party wants to prevent another party from accessing. For example, “you can’t be a fan of (thing) unless you believe (something about the fandom),” or “you’re not queer if you don’t have (x) experience.” Read more about gatekeeping.

Gaybies: Young gay people, often those who have just discovered they are gay and are exploring their new community. Not usually used self-referentially.

Gen: Short for “general” or “genuine.” 1. A fanwork that specifically does not involve shipping. 2. GIF (file format): Abbreviation for “graphics interchange format.” A moving image file. Subject to a long-running debate on if it should be pronounced with a “g” pronunciation of the leading g or a “j” pronunciation of the leading g.

Giffer: Someone who makes gif sets.

Gif Set: A curated collection of GIFs. They might be sequential segments of a scene, match a theme of some sort, or simply be images the creator enjoys. Sometimes, they are unedited or lightly edited extracts from the source material; other times, they involve extensive graphic design and modification efforts by the giffer.

Girlboss: A term that fandom co-opted from hustle culture, meaning a young woman who leads or owns her own business venture. In fandom usage, this term is gender neutral (applied to characters regardless of their gender) and is often used ironically, and/or as part of the phrase “gaslight, girlboss, gatekeep” meaning one or more characters who lie, control, and manipulate to get their way. Author’s Note: This idea has been rattling around in my head for a while since I had a wonderful conversation with myonmukyuu about her ideas for a SetsuAyu AU story. (I had to come back to this comment and change it for fear that it may give the wrong impression about this chapter. Hopefully I’ll remember to explain in the notes of a later entry to the arc.)

Summary: A young Shioriko arrives at a Hunter training camp and encounters an interesting angel.

Fair Warning: This chapter may focus on the childhood friendship between Shioriko and Lanzhu, but PoH as a whole will eventually add Mia in for a R3birth OT3. Thus, if that’s not your thing, do feel free to skip this. Elsewise, enjoy.

“Nee-san, look, an angel.”

“Shioriko,” Kaoruko responded, “you know it’s impolite to point out the nature of others.”

Although the tone was teasing, Shioriko knew her big sister was actually scolding her.

“Sorry…”

“Impressive.” The woman the two were approaching turned. Though her eyes were as sharp as blades cut from sapphire, there was a warmth within them. “Pray tell, little one,” She knelt down to Shioriko’s level and offered a smile “how did you determine I was an angel?”

“Your aura matched a description I read in one of the tomes my parents gave me.” Shioriko explained.

“You detected my celestial aura, despite my abilities to suppress it.” The woman’s smile grew. “Very impressive indeed.”

“Shioriko is exceptionally talented.” Kaoruko boasted. “Even if she can be a little blunt sometimes.” She tousled her younger sister’s hair.

Shioriko furrowed her brow. While she couldn’t deny she enjoyed her sister’s affection, she wished Kaoruko would stick to head pats instead of messing up her hair.

“Shioriko…” The woman stood as she thought for a moment. “Ah, you two must be the Mifune sisters. Your family legacy as Hunters precedes you. Your parents chose well sending you here for training.”

That’s right, training. Shioriko and her sister had traveled to the mainland for training as Hunters, a profession many in their lineage had held. Hunters were a worldwide, though loose organization, hired by those in power, to protect their people from creatures hailing from myth and legend. And while Japan had become somewhat of a safe haven for monsters, cryptids and other supernatural beings over the last millennia or so, the shogunate still employed Hunters to deal with those they deemed as threats.

“By the way, I am…”

Shioriko missed the woman’s name as she suddenly became aware of a much stronger angelic presence, one that was certainly not being suppressed. She turned and…

“Nǐ hǎo!” a voice cried excitedly as its owner dropped from above into a tackling hug. “Huānyíng!”

Those were greetings in the local language, right? Shioriko thought to herself as she shifted her weight to avoid falling to the ground under the force of the glomp.

“Lanzhu.” The woman scolded, her tone lacking the teasing Shioriko was used to hearing from someone like her sister. “Do not scare or injure our new recruits.”

“Duìbùqǐ.” Lanzhu…? replied.

That was an apology. Shioriko was sure of it. Except the girl hugging her did not sound anywhere near apologetic.

“I’m sorry.” The woman said, her tone actually sounding apologetic. “It seems my daughter is excited to finally have someone her age in the camp for a change.”

Her age? Shioriko questioned silently. Angels could be children? Angels could have children? She didn’t remember that being mentioned in the tomes she had read. She thought angels manifested from celestial energy in Heaven in their adult form. It would seem she was wrong.

“You’re Shioriko, right?” The girl asked, switching to Japanese.

Shioriko craned her neck to finally see the girl attached to her. She was practically the spitting image of her mother, though much smaller; definitely a child. Same sharp, sapphire eyes, though they sparkled with more exuberant energy. Pink hair, though maybe a shade lighter. And wings. Brilliant white, feathery wings, leaving no doubt as to her heavenly origin.

Shioriko opened her mouth to confirm Lanzhu’s question but was cut off.

“Lanzhu will show you to your quarters!” The girl announced, releasing her embrace but grabbing Shioriko’s hand instead. “Just follow me!”

As if Shioriko had a choice in the matter of following. Lanzhu’s grip was strong as she pulled Shioriko up the main throughfare of the encampment.

“Don’t be too long.” The woman called from behind. “Today’s training will begin soon.”

“Wǒ zhīdào!” Lanzhu called back without looking, instead dodging around a few individuals on the path.

Shioriko did not understand that phrase and realized she needed up hasten her learning of the language. So far, Lanzhu and her mother seemed fluent in Japanese, but as a visitor, Shioriko knew it was prudent to learn the language of the land instead of relying on everyone else to know her own native one.

“And here we are!” Lanzhu suddenly stopped in front of a decent sized structure. “Lanzhu make sure that your quarters be next to ours so my new best friend Shioriko and I can hang out easier.”

Best friend? That was quick. Then again, Shioriko couldn’t say she was opposed to the idea. She didn’t know Lanzhu all that well yet, but she seemed nice enough, if more than a little bit willful and probably far too accustomed to getting her own way.

“Like it?” Lanzhu asked, but as before, she did not wait for a response before dragging Shioriko inside. “And when Lanzhu heard Shioriko like to read, she secured all the books she could!”

Lanzhu let go of Shikoriko’s hand so she could spread her arms wide to present no less than a dozen shelves, crammed rather haphazardly around the central room. Apparently, in order to fit them all in, one had to partially block the doorway to what was probably a bedroom. Two were set at an angle, with one partially behind the other, as together they were too long for that wall. Several more were leaned against each other instead of against the wall, awkwardly dividing off part of the room, though Shioriko saw potential for a reading nook there.

And the books. By the gods, her family didn’t have that many books back home, in a much bigger area than these quarters. Lanzhu had managed to overflow the available shelving space and stacked many tomes on top of them. And on the tables. And the chairs. And the floor. Shioriko couldn’t help wondering if there were more shelves and books in the other rooms, but she would have to check that later. She could also tell at a glance that nothing was sorted in any meaningful way, but that could be a project at which she could chip away over her time here.

“So, is this enough?” Lanzhu’s question brought Shioriko’s attention back to her.

“Enough for what?”

“For Lanzhu and Shioriko to be friends.” Lanzhu’s expression became somewhat anxious and concerned, an unexpected shift from her earlier confidence and cheerfulness.

What.

Shioriko blinked, not entirely sure if she understood the question or its explanation. Did Lanzhu believe she needed to give grandiose gifts to others in order to earn their friendship? Shioriko was familiar with many gift giving customs, but in most involving individuals that were unfamiliar with one another, the gifts were usually trinkets or small favors. Certainly nothing like what Lanzhu was presenting. Also, since Shioriko was technically the guest or newcomer, should it not be her giving Lanzhu a gift?

“Lanzhu-san.” Shioriko decided to use her given name, as she realized she did not know her family name.

“Lanzhu.”

Shioriko nodded. “Lanzhu, thank you. This is all a wonderful, and unexpected gift.” She couldn’t help a small smile as Lanzhu’s expression started to turn hopeful. “But I believe it to be unnecessary. I am willing to be your friend anyway.”

“Wànsuì!”

Lanzhu surged forward into another tackling hug, forcing Shioriko to once again brace herself or risk being knocked down.

This may take a little getting used to, Shioriko thought to herself. She herself wasn’t the best at making friends either, having spent much of her time lately either training or reading. But there was something about Lanzhu, beyond just their closeness in age, that intrigued her and made her genuinely interested in friendship.

“Shioriko?” A voice called from the door. “Lan… oh wow…”

“Nee-san.” Shioriko greeted her sister as the older girl entered.

“Looks like someone is going to be having fun organizing books for the next few weeks.” Kaoruko smirked as she continued to look around.

“Mm.”

“Anyway, I was sent to fetch you two for training.”

“Lanzhu will show you the way!” Lanzhu declared, once again pulling away from her hug and grabbing Shioriko’s hand.

Yes, this will definitely take some getting used to… Shioriko thought again as she found herself being pulled along by her new friend.

Author’s Note Continued: Yeesh... How the heck have I not posted anything since March 1st? I know work and life have been busy, but... And it’s not like I haven’t written anything, I obviously just haven’t finished or posted anything for a quarter of a year.

Well, hopefully, this will break the lull.

Currently, I have a three part arc in mind for this LanzShio background story. And I am intentionally leaving plenty of room to come back and add more stuff later if new ideas come to me.

And finally, I’m not 100% set on actual ages for either Fang or Lanz here. Maybe they really are just a year apart. Maybe Lanzhu only looks young, but as an immortal angel, is already centuries old. I’m leaning toward high single digits for human Fang, but again, Lanz is an angel, so I may come back later, or maybe clarify in the next entry, if I figure things out by then.

Edit: Almost forgot. Yes, I typed shogunate up there in the early paragraphs. As in the military power in Japan for something like 700 some odd years. Not fully set on the exact time period of this chapter, but mild spoilers, it will be revealed later in the arc that this is before the Sakoku period of isolation.

Like both the dorm member and the reader is flustered from the accident, but the dorm member knows that his dorm leader likes them.
