FUN LITTLE VISUAL DETAILS IN PROMARE - PART 1

...Brought to you by a guy who has rewatched this movie well over 40 times. My insanity for this film is boundless. Here are just some fun little stuff I noticed in Promare. (Most of the stuff I say here are just my own observations so take it all with a grain of salt)

Varys likes basketball! It's easy to miss, but at the start he is shooting a basketball into a hoop

And his locker also has some basketball jerseys inside of it (and what looks like deodorant?)

Speaking of lockers, each member of Burning Rescue has special details on their lockers!

Starting off with the outside, from right to left we have: Varys, Aina, Lucia, Remi, and then Galo (Galo's is not visible in this shot.) All of them have traces of stickers that have been peeled off.

Varys' has a hart hat and some decals, seemingly more basketball-related things. One right to the left of the hard hat has a paw print on it.

Aina's locker has a baseball cap, some rainbow/emoji stickers (one that looks like it just says Inter Net? And maybe a Barbie one?) along with some motivational sticky notes (You are STRONG) and two 'A's. Probably her initials.

Lucia's locker has the most stickers, and to me, it looks like they're mostly of different candy/candy brands. Other than the T and the "ATATA" they just look like candy stuff. She doesn't have any hat hanging there (it would probably be difficult to wear a normal hat with her hair)

(Edit: To quote a-blue-revolution, "Lucia likes videogames!!!! In that close up of the lockers you showed there's an "atata" sticker that looks EXACTLY like the atari logo" There are also some other stuff that show her video game nerdiness. Thank you a-blue-revolution!!)

Remi's locker is just a hard hat and some papers. One's on white paper, and to me it seems printed, like a legal document or something. The other is on yellow paper, and to me looks more handwritten. Who knows what these are.

Here is the outside of Galo's locker. It looks like it has Matoi decals, to the surprise of no one. Some simple characters, the side of a firefighter holding a Matoi, and the tip of a Matoi at the very top. (I'm not completely sure what the dark blue decal in the lower middle is, perhaps a firefighting outfit?)

(Edit: To quote burnt-grapes from the comments: "That dark-blue sticker in the middle of Galo’s locker is actually a Bonshō! They’re large bells used in buddhist in Japan that are typically made of bronze :] (hence the sticker’s colour)" Thank you burnt-grapes!!)

Now for the insides of everybody's lockers:

(I already showed Varys' but here it is again for reference, his hand is blocking a picture of someone playing basketball (you can see it in the next picture))

Aina has some, I think, fashion stickers? There's a figure with a hat in the top left corner, and some sort of ticket or check with what I think is a barcode on the left. To the top right of the mirror, she has a picture of her and her sister (aww). She also has a geometric poster for "Division", and another poster behind that one. My gut is saying a band of some kind?

To match the outside, Lucia's locker is filled to the BRIM with snacks, featuring some great brands such as "Cheetas," "Daritas," "Skettles," "W&W," and what I think is just straight up Milky Ways? And right where her hand is reaching one that says "Trigger." My gut reaction was that it was supposed to be a parody of "Toblerone," but the letters are brown, so it might just be a normal easter egg. She also has some books and red solo cups.

Boring documents on the outside, pinups on the inside. Interesting. Remi also has a picture of him next to a blonde-haired someone, also in a Burning Rescue uniform. (I've heard that that's his girlfriend who got turned into a crocodile, but don't quote me on that) He also has some red solo cups.

(We don't see the inside of Galo's locker, but I'm gonna take a wild guess and say it's probably more Matoi memorabilia)

Speaking of Matoi, when Lucia is working on her computer at the start of the movie, we can see she's looking at Galo's Matoi Tech suit! His Matoi/the folded up version of the suit is on the right, and how he actually fits into the suit is in the middle. (You can see the spikes on the back, identifying it as his special suit)

The computer actually shows all the suits customized for their owner's body types and the suits themselves. Right before Lucia sends out Remi and Varys, the computer shows this:

You can see, Remi's figure is very thin and lanky, and Varys can barely fit in his. Remi's ice canon is contained in his suit attachment, and Vary's is mostly just the arms, with the claw he uses to pry open the door to the scientists.

As Burning Rescue is leaving, a tiny car accompanies them. (if you look closely, you can also count the pixels in that image)

This is Ignis' car, the one he drives throughout the movie. You can see him getting out of it here:

It seems to have a spoiler on the back. A pretty flashy car overall.

Most people know about this hidden Galo:

But there's actually a second one! As Lucia is fistbumping Varys and Remi, you can see him sulking, partially hidden by the light.

Poor guy. He wants to go so bad.

Aina has a headset with a mouthpiece, which no other characters seem to.

My guess is it's due to the helicopter. It could muffle the sound, and make it so that she can still talk whether she's inside or outside. Or it might be something to do with proximity, since Varys and Remi are both in their suits, and Lucia can have higher quality communication gear in the van that might not be available for Aina's helicopter.

(You can see Lucia and Varys don't have any)

This might just be reading too deeply into it, but right at the beginning, Vary's is launched out of a canon. Perhaps this is foreshadowing halfway through the movie when Lio gets launched?

This also shows the "shape symbolism," which is perhaps the coolest visual detail of all. According to the Wiki, squares are used to represent Promepolis, the city, Kray, Freeze Force, that general sphere. Triangles are used to represent the Burnish. And circles symbolize the freedom/the future. Once you notice that it's EVERYWHERE. The lens flares, the buildings, the clothing of characters, everywhere. And even on the canons here, you can see that Varys gets launched out of a square one, and Lio gets launched out of a triangle.

Goofy little detail is Lucia uses a joystick in the van, oddly enough. While holding it, she twiddles her fingers as if she's typing on a keyboard. Either there are sensory inputs on the ball of the joystick itself, or she's just excited.

(Here, while complaining about Galo being missing, she uses a genuine game controller to move a robot's hand. She likes video games)

god its me again, with lookism spoilers below the cut

the way everyone gathered with their respective rescues like they're a stray cat or this month's grocery shop is just way too funny y'all but the way jinsung arrived with johan in tow and was immediately like "dude why does it looks like hyungseok was trying to rescue jaeyeol and not the other way around????? why is he knock knock knocking on heavens door???????? what the fuck did you do to him???????????" and hyungseok was like "i promise you there's a very good reason for this :D" smiley emoji and all and jinsung is just "don't????? change the subject????? you almost killed him?????????????" just left me cackling for five minutes straight thanks jinsung i knew i could trust you

jihan walking in carrying jibeom and hudson in a carrier after alexander was deadass carrying both jake and samuel is peak comedy. the devil works hard and alexander works harder. if you're an a/c unit i'm your fan. number one samuel stan can't compare can't compete we aint shit compared to alexander.

also it's funny for me to think that while hyungseok was beating the shit out of everyone, himself included, everyone else was like trying to think about how to transport the rescues. jihan being the bright patootie he is brought a bed, work smarter not harder. alexander decided to brute-force it. jinsung used the bro-style-carry. vasco is now carrying lil hyungseok like he's a cat he just rescued out of a fire. these guys all share one single braincell and its bouncing like that old dvd logo. i hope that reference lands somewhere.

now what's important here.

i think this chapter pretty much confirmed that nº1 is, in fact, made up of parts and scraps of other generation kings. i mean this is pretty obvious but i guess it'll be confirmed in a couple more episodes and we'll have to be like -pretends to be shocked-, i think it will be more impressive if nº1 is not, as a matter of fact, made up of parts and scraps from the 0 gen and is instead made up of several random people and then enhanced by drugs. why do i say this? well usually the first is not the best, specially with experiments, and i really dont think they would have wanted to waste precious parts in order to make something that wouldn't work, so it could be very possible that nº1 is actually the first working prototype of what the workers first affiliate was trying to replicate.

and what were they trying to replicate you ask?

why, hyungseok's fake body, of course.

my working theory is as follows:

i think it's very likely that nº1 is an experiment that is being made behind charles back, by the workers first affiliate, because back in the day he somehow found a way, alongside jinyoung, to recreate the perfect super-soldier, and went around playing the world's worst puzzle and stealing pieces from others with the help of james lee, and now won't rely that information to workers so that they can get mass produced. however it seems like eugene doesn't know about the two bodies, or at least hasn't found a way to confirm it (maybe, hear me out, maybe if ptj hadn't killed jiho off! the shrimp the felony commiter the only one crazy enough to come up with that possibility! then eugene would already know and this plot would be so much far ahead!), therefore it remains as a possibility that he heard about some kind of super-soldier project and tried to find out who was behind it because super-soldiers are very high on the list of what evil little dudes do on their free time, and that's how he stumbled upon jinyoung.

jinyoung however, probably wasn't the entire brain behind the operation. that's why nº1 looks... that way. it's very possible that the other half of the operation was... hear me out: hyungseok's dad, who was supposedly killed by jinyoung.

i dont really think that it was james lee, because he's supposed to be the figthing genius, the one-man-army, the one going to the hardware store to collect the parts and pieces of their little fucked up science fair experiment that might or might not violate the geneva convention (is the geneva convention a thing in the ptj-verse i dont think it is...). i also don't think it was charles, because while he's behind the interconnected webs, that's kinda not in the same ballpark as human experimentation, that's like management vs the kitchen, have you seen management inside the kitchen like actually working? no, that's my point. gapryong was too busy trying to become the president in order to also be trying to bring back prometheus 2: electric boogaloo. which leaves us jinyoung, a farmacologist, and hyungseok's dad, occupation unknown but with ties to jinyoung, and was apparently killed by him as well.

even if jinyoung didn't actively murder him, you know what mom park said? he died sick. who in lookism would have the very specific knowledge to prescribe drugs that would worsen someone's condition instead of making it better, and also be in a position of trust in order to make it work, thus killing hyungseok's dad while making it seem like he simply fell ill?

oh yeah its coming all together.

i also find it extremely funny that, in a way, hyungseok did manage to both unite and dismantle the four major crews. all of the groups are dismantled, inactive, on the run or were absorbed by workers, and now three of the original crew leaders alongside samuel as a representative form a temporary alliance. "not even the four major crews-" bitch sit down didn't you read the big deal arc and the hostel arc, the power of trauma compels you -gets blasted-

also johan being like "ew cant believe i gotta fight alongside you people" kid you've been working with Jake for months now what on earth are you talking about did you also get your memory temporarily erased by the drugs. will anyone else forget about some important part of the plot-- put your hand down jake.

what you thought i wouldnt mention the emotional whiplash it gave me to have hyungseok suddenly remembering the friend he just beat up. JAEYEOL IT'S ME YA BOY bitch you left him about to board the first train without stopovers to the left of christ's throne a foot on the gutter and the other on the grave, wipe out those damn tears and get his ass outta there stop crying it's not the time stop kissing in the foreground

Reading the W.I.T.C.H. reboot, part 1

Okay, W.I.T.C.H. reboot, here we go!:

AS: BTW, I was a huge fan of W.I.T.C.H. my whole childhood and most of my teenage years (where the writing quality dropped). The art style was a huge influence for my current art style and I even cosplayed Elyon three times. My favorite character was Hay Lin (then Elyon) and I still have most of the comics and the gifts they put on the magazine. So yeah, no pressure.

-Maybe it’s just me, but the cover looks… boring? It’s like Will here gave life to her dolls. Here’s a first look of the redesigns and… I guess I’ll talk more about them later, but: Taranee: sporty, weird, Irma: not bad, I guess, I like the combo of tan skin and curly ponytail, Hay Lin: well, that’s not my Hay Hey, but she looks cute, Cornelia: classy, not bad and… if I hadn’t read about it, never, in a million years, I’d have guessed that’s Elyon. She’s just an albino girl.

-BTW, I would have changed the logo. It makes no sense keeping it exactly the same. I’ve always thought the “c” is the odd one here.

-Oh, emojis, cool. But Taranee looks mad. And Irma looks like George of the Jungle. Sorry.

-You know, it’s sad when you put the six characters and then leave Elyon clearly out. No slide for her (even though her color was purple). And Taranee has an undercut? I’m guessing she’ll be quite different from the Taranee we used to know. Also, first look at the… magical outfits? They look like gymnasts. Or about to dance in the Dance Academy (I hated that arc). Also, also, Taranee looks concerned about that light in her chest and… yeah, girl, I’d be concerned too.

-While I enjoy that a multi-artist (that exists, right?) is the one behind the project, now I wonder if she was given it because she’s actually good or because she’s famous. Is she the writer? I guess? Also, putting the old designs? For what? Nostalgia?

-According to the intro drawing, Will will be the most important character, then Elyon (holding the dusty remnants of something she vaporized, probably), and then the other girls. The Heart of Kandrakar is golden now and… sorry, but I can’t with Will’s eyelashes. She looks like an old cartoon. And while Elyon’s new design would look good for any other character, I think the old one worked better for both her good and bad sides. And that hairstyle was iconic. Also, now that I see her black eyebrows… maybe she’s not albino after all? Taranee looks pissed to be there, Cornelia now has dimples (cute!), Hay Lin has the curse of “Asian-girl-with-colored-streak” and she’s extra pale and Irma… well, she doesn’t look that bad. PS: I know Hay Lin being yellow in the original comic was bad, but at least she could be light brown? I remember doing a lot of research to find my OC Aury’s skin tone and I knew it had to be a shade of brown. She looks a little ghostly-like.

-I actually like the art style.

FFXIV Write 2k23 - Day 4

Off the Hook (Modern Day Streamer AU)

“Welcome back Scions!” Hero beamed as he waved at his camera set up, the stream was live and his mod team was ready for the chaos. Hero was usually a cozy game streamer- if he wasn’t doing his baking streams, known for things like Animal Crossing or Stardew Challenge Runs. However, he could be convinced to do other styles of games- and one of his friends had talked him into trying something new. “No we are not taking a trip back to the farm today, we’re doing something special!” He already had the capture set up for the switch anyway.

So a few games of the new Splatoon wouldn’t hurt. “Alright chat, I want you to guess while I set up my switch. Mods, give ten thousand channel points to- let’s say- the first three correct guesses! I’ll help narrow the field though, it’s not an indie title and it’s got online multiplayer.” He actually was just waiting for the game to finish downloading, while keeping an eye on chat to see if his friend would show. Granted, he could just yell down the hall- but chat didn’t need to know they were living together now. It’d lead to rumors and unneeded speculation.

Especially since Zenos was supposed to be dating his lead moderator- Asahi.

Not that Hero wasn’t also dating Asahi, but there was this whole royal wedding fiasco that they had to resolve first and he didn’t want to make it public that they were a triad until it was resolved. Partially by suggestion of Zenos’ fathers. Specifically Regula, the biggest advocate for online safety and anonymity he knew. Partially because the pair of them have managed to keep their relationship out of the spotlight for years- hell, no one could even tell Varis had transitioned after having Zenos. The royal family knew how to keep secrets- even in an online era.

Finally Asahi posted a message in his mod chat.

[GildedSAM: Zenos forgot your Splatoon Debut stream was today.]

[GildedSAM: So I’m moderating his stream right now.]

Oh, that would explain a lot. Okay, Hero could work with that. He’d watch Zenos’ VOD later just to see whatever he did. Hero wasn’t one for games like League or whatever competitive fighting game of the week Zenos was punishing people in, but he liked to watch Zenos play anyway. He never got tilted, even when losing, he just got excited for a challenge. Watching his smile spread when he found someone who made playing interesting was Hero’s favorite part of his streams.

Hero sighed a bit, that meant his team would just be Thancred and Raha today. That was fine, his streams usually didn’t get crazy so two would be enough. “Alright bets are off, let’s get this started!” He switched to the game screen to show off the Splatoon logo, “I played the WiiU version way back when so I’m not totally clueless, but I wonder how it’s changed for the switch. I think I’ll miss Marina though, I loved her outfit. Maybe I'll cosplay her sometime.” He winked at his chat and grinned as the heart emojis poured in. “Also, fair warning, I was a splat roller guy before so prepare for me to make a lot of mess.”

Honestly the stream was going great for a while- until he wound up in one specific lobby. “Who the flip is this sniper? He’s stupid accurate and-” Hero paused for a moment, long viera ears turning to ear Zenos talking to his own stream. He could barely pick up the words, “effective on rollers- can’t have that,” before he quickly pulled up Zenos’ stream on his other monitor. “Chat I’m going to have to pause after this game.” He was going to beat Zenos within an inch of his life over this. It couldn’t be intentional, he knew they weren’t trying to get into each other’s games.

Shame someone in chat realized why he was angry before he had the chance to elaborate.

[WarriorOLight and GarlicPrince are in the same lobby. GP just sniped WoL from half the map!!!]

Fuck, whelp that cat was already out of the bag.

Suddenly his chat lit up with messages of support. Calls to kick his ass and run him down were rampant.

“Guys I’m not going to chase him down specifically, that’s unsporting of me.” He laughed a little, calming down for the moment. “I am, however, going to turn this whole flippin’ map pink and send him a clip when I win.” Not if.

When.

Time to do what he did best, be a nuisance. Don’t get cooked, stay off the hook indeed.

hi ☺️ first of all thank you so much for all the great fics you write! and thank you for Glitch, I absolutely love that it's so cute and soft but also giggle-worthy and laugh out loud FUN <3

I have somewhat of a weird/stupid question (and I don't know why my brain has fixated on this but humor me if you'd like, so I can picture every scene you write as it should be) : what does max usually wear to go to the office? like, is he a jeans + sweater/hoodie everyday kind of guy? does he choose khakis and a shirt? a suit, maybe??

(I'm also very curious about who's on the grid in this universe but maybe you'll tell us more in the next chapters 👀 can't wait to see how the story develops!)

SECOND OF ALL thats not a weird question at all thats a FANTASTIC question and i actually have a lot of Thoughts(tm) about it which i am VERY glad to share (coincidentally i did hold like a lil mini rant about max's clothing in glitch to eby a few days ago lmao)

the short answer is jeans + hoodie/t-shirt

THE LONG ANSWER is below a read more because this 1) got completely away from me and 2) actually contains spoilers for chapter three

so there's a line in the second paragraph of the first chapter that actually references the sweater ("He sniffs the sweater he’s wearing, pulls a face, and then gets off the couch and heads into the bedroom to find a clean one.") later in that same chapter it's referenced how he doesn't know much about fashion, and it's kind of implied he doesn't really care either

which gets confirmed in the opening scene of chapter three, which is literally max getting ready for his date, wearing like jeans and a t-shirt and daniel going "ABSOLUTELY NOT" and rooting through his closet for something nicer for him to wear lmao

Max stares down at his clothes. He’s wearing a pair of his nicest jeans, and a gray t-shirt one of his hook ups once told him makes his arms look really nice. “What’s wrong with this?” He asks, confused.

Daniel stops throwing clothing on the bed and sends Max a look. “Max. Maxy. Maxerino,” Daniel says, ignoring Max’s grumble of ‘I told you to stop calling me that’. “You’re going on a date with Charles Leclerc. And you’re wearing jeans and a t-shirt.”

“So?” Max asks, shrugging a little. “He’s still just a guy. What, do you want me to wear a suit just because he’s sort of famous? That’s ridiculous.”

also this snippet that i didn't want to deny you that happens much later and PERFECTLY describes max's fashion forward clothing style:

“Hi,” Charles says. “Sorry. Should’ve maybe started with that. You just look uh. Really hot.”

Max glances down at his t-shirt. It has the Excel logo on it, with ‘freak in the sheets’ written underneath. His sweatpants, he realizes to his great annoyance, have a hole in them. When he glances back up to Charles, he’s blushing.

“Shut up, apparently I’m into that whole rumpled nerd look, sue me.” Charles grouses, and Max laughs, leaning up to kiss him ever so softly.

never stated in the fic but that t-shirt was ABSOLUTELY a joke gift from either daniel or lando and max very much wears it unironically like this dude does just Not Care lmao

but yeah i hope that sort of answers the question?? max is very shrug emoji about his clothing in general, opting for comfort above all, so i'd say he wears a hoodie + jeans like 99% of the time unless he has something he knows he HAS to dress up for, like an official company thing

ALSO for the grid question: daniel, lando and max are the only non drivers in this universe and it takes place in the 2023 season so daniel wouldnt be on the grid anyway. idk who takes lando's seat but you do find out who takes max's seat and if you know me it's like. really not that hard to guess [side eyes my icon]. but that's really just a throw away mention and a fun little easter egg for me and eby. you won't really see much of the other drivers since it's mostly from max's pov :)

🎉 as a general unit emoji! just confetti which reminds me quite a lot of their logo! Could also be the 🎊 but i think the first one is cuter.

🍩 Donuts' are rinkus favorite food! my second option for her would be 🐚 considering how she always gives others them to symbolize friendship, but i think donuts' fit her character aesthetic more!

🏀 honestly mahos took me some time to think about smth, but yeah! while maho is canonically a great cooker, she's also canonically a basketball player and very good at it, with her untrained initial 3* showing her playing and the recent origin sp too!

🎀 Muni... I think the fandom is pretty settled on emojis for muni actually, which are the bow and the 🐰, but tbh... i just think the bow fits her better? Not only do her outfits constantly have many ribbons (back of the uniform, on her pigtails, collar...) But also, while bunnies are indeed the focus of her tiara, we see her using other animals such as cats (untrained initial 3*) or bears (untrained d4fes1 3*)! Because of nyochio, i also think 🐈 could work, but nothing that beats the ribbon

🎹 for rei! It is her instrument after all, and D4 doesn't has many instrument players, sooo... My other option for rei would be cup noodles since she is lowkey obsessed with them and theyre implied to be her favorite food, but we don't have a emoji for that, so the closest thing would be the 🍜 emoji!

👑 as the unit emoji! even on their logo the crown is prominent, so it's also a pretty easy one to guess!

🍔 for kyoko!!! it is her favorite food and it appears on two of her cards, not counting other appearances such as in the petit mix episodes! my other takes would be ⚾ as it is her favorite sport or the 🧢 since. Yeah

🎧 for shinobu! While yeah it's a dj franchise and this one seems too on the face... shinobu is one of the characters with the strongest connections to dj-ing besides aoi and has been doing this since her childhood, not to mention how she usually has headphones on her neck! My other assignments would be a bubblegum emoji but we don't have that, or a 🎮 , but we majorly see shinobu playing either on her computer or in arcades, so i decided to just go with the headphones!

💚 for esora, which may be indeed a cheesy one but cmon! heart for the lovely character of the franchise and green since it is her color! other ones would be 🐸 to represent esoran in the anime and 🐖 to represent her pet pig, tiara!

📸 while i know many people associate yuka to training directly, for me my first connection is always to pictures. She has over 5 cards where she's holding cameras and it is her hobby! While yes, she is on the training trio of d4dj, i think the camera says more about her character than any other emoji

🌐 for unit emoji! It fits their aesthetic very VERY well and also symbolizes the world, so!

☄️ for saki! sakis hobby is stargazing and she loves the galaxy, so it just seemed fitting to give her something related to that, and i settled on the comet! 🐈 Is also viable considering she adores cats and has one named schrodinger, but i just feel the comet suits her better

⛩️ for ibuki... im not even going to lie that initially hers gave me a bit of a headache to decide, but! Ibukis family owns a temple and she has 2 cards where she's dressed as a shrine maiden, so it seemed to work for me! As part of the training trio though, something sports/fit related could fit her v well

🧸 for noa!!! While i know initially many may directly think of a 🎀 for her, she has many cards where plushies appear and are related to her, so i settled on the teddy bear emoji, as it is also cute and something she constantly appears with!

🪩 towa! I wanted to give her an idol lightstick initially to symbolize her love for idols, but alas we don't have that, so i thought a disco ball could still work p well and fit the aesthetic!! My other choices would be a crepe emoji, but we don't have that, or the 🎤 to also symbolize her love for idols!

🌊 unit emoji! a wave! also shown on their unit logo

🍹 for rika! i wasn't quite sure on one for her, but i think the cocktail suits her pretty well? she has been shown drinking in various cards and is the party girl, so! this one also specifically suits her REALLY well with the tropical vibes and colors so!!!

🧋marika! While still not appearing in any card, it is stated to be her favorite drink and also said that she went across various shops in japan to taste them, so it seems fitting! A nail polish emoji would also suit her very well considering how she cares about her beauty a lot and is shown doing others nails in a card, but we don't have that with the closest being the 💅 emoji

📣 MERMAAAID. saoris megaphone is iconic not only on the merm4id live concerts but is also shown in the game through the saori birthday1 card! The other one i can think of for her is the 📼 since, as shown in the m4 christmas story, saori loves old media and specially tapes

🌺 another one that gave me some trouble. I think hibiscus' suit dalia VERY well and this might be one of the reasons why i have it to her, so oh well. My other emojis that probably make a bit more sense would be 🥃 since she is a bartender and this one seems to suit her p well and 🥋 since her focus on fighting is specifically karate. there isn't something close to a aromatherapy emoji so ehhh

🔥 as per their unit logo. it's not blue, but it's still a flame

🦋 for tsubaki! We don't have a camellia emoji and while i COULD give her the 🌹 emoji arguably, i think butterflies suit her a lot more and also appear in a fair share of her cards!

🎸 instrument. even though this one may be a bit obvious for nagisa and i think it'd be the one most people would use, i personally prefer using the ⚡ for nagisa as it shows her energetic and electric personality and also suits her hair lmao

🪡 Hiiro! Hiiro sews her own cosplays and even to others, so both the needle and the 🧵 seem fitting for her! The 🔮 also might be a good one because of her mystical side such as tarot reading etc!

🪷 aoi... i know this one might seem as bit of a stretch at first and i could have given her headphones, but lotus' are aois signature flower (birthday 1) and also black lotus is a rondo song, so there is a fair share of reasoning for lotus aoi. A jam emoji could also fit but it doesn't exist

Lyrical Lily

🕊️ we don't have a white feather emoji, so the dove it is! I still think it suits pretty well considering their catholic background etc and it being a white dove which also brings in the feathers

🌸 for miyu since miyu sakurada. Next

🍵 haruna! she is canonically a member of a tea club and enjoys offering others tea, so it seemed fitting. also matches her classic and proper personality

🍰 kurumi was a hard one too. I could give her a 🐛 or another bug emoji to show her like for pranks using fake bugs but there are too many options... There also isn't a japanese hard candy emoji so ehhh. however the cake above was pretty much identical to the slice of cake emoji and i think their vibes match kurumi

👻 miiko!!! The resident paranormal and horror lover deserves something to show that <3 also the ghost emoji is silly and im very sure miiko would love using it. other options that could fit is the 🎢 since miiko enjoys rollercoasters and they appear in one of her cards and 🐎 since miiko owns a horse and enjoys riding them

BONUS TIME!!! ill admit these are more rushed and with less thought put behind them since we still don't know much about the characters

🪐 unichord! It suits the ring in their unit logo pretty well

💻 michiru, as she's shown to enjoy technology and learning things through there, specifically computers!

✨ lumina, i could give her a general star since hoshinova but i think the sparkles are cuter and suit her in a way! A cotton candy emoji could also work since it's her favorite food

💝 is a p basic one for kokoa but ehh i couldn't think of much else. heart because she's cute and maybe the ribbon one because she enjoys housework and it could symbolize sewing or smth? Oh well

Choices Insiders January 2023

Happy new year everyone, hope you all had a good one.

Here we go with the first of this year's Insiders.

So like many, I was ecstatic to see the announcement of Immortal Desires 2 after being on the fence, but hopeful with that teaser they released. It'll be great to get more of Cas and Gabe and see what the threat will be. As I mentioned in my look over of that post, it is great to see some more gender of choice mc books. I'm going to leave the reused asset thing as I talked about that when looking over the end of year post.

I'm not going to be reading Surrender 2 as I didn't read BK1, so I can't really say more on that.

I'm still getting through this, and I have become invested in the story and I'm interested to see how it will play out as it seems that with how yesterday's wide release chapter ended, to quote Stephen Strange, we're in the endgame now.

It's been interesting in that they are letting us decide on certain elements with Blades 2, looks like there will be one more piece for us to be able to vote on, and I'm interested to see what that will be. With these polls happening, I'm guessing maybe a late spring / early summer release for Blades 2, and I am looking forward to it.

Really glad to see this is finally releasing, I can't remember how long ago it was announced, but it is at last coming!

I have seen the final finished cover and I thought then it was going to be a holiday book, and what they have said above confirms that. I'm interested to see where this book's group will be headed.

All these logos look amazing! I like all the different colours used for the final design, definitely gives holiday vibes.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. I'm useless with emojis so I won't try and decipher these.

If I remember rightly, they said it was going to be 2024 that Immortal Desires 2 would release. I suppose it depends on when they decided to greenlight a BK2 and how long it takes to work on everything.

It'll be great to see books get released in more languages. Look forward to seeing what languages they go for.

I think I've said all I can with Getaway Girls as we don't have much info available. I think this will begin releasing once Laws of Attraction 2 has finished (I can't believe it's at chapter 15 already!), but I guess we'll have to wait and see.

I did a post talking about Roommates with Benefits and First Comes Love a while ago, I'll do a little bit more on Roommates with benefits nearer the end where they give a bit more info.

Two new titles here. Firstly is The Duchess Affair, which going by the title makes me think it will be one of Pixelberry's more mature books as well as being a historical story. I'm guessing this will be the VIP book for April. I also won't be surprised if this ends up being a single Love Interest book.

We had Kindred announced in the end of year post and that it would be a Witch book. I can't really say much at the moment since we don't have any more info. I don't know if it will be a full fantasy like The Cursed Heart and Blades or real world fantasy like The Elementalists. If The Duchess Affair is the April book, then I'm guessing this will be the VIP book for May.

I've said my piece on The Phantom Agent and Surrender, so I'll leave those. I have really been enjoying Laws of Attraction 2, and like I said earlier, I can't believe it's on Chapter 15 already! The time has flown by with this one. I do expect it to be the last Laws book, I usually go into every book expecting it to either be a standalone or the last in a series, just save myself a bit of disappointment.

Guinevere is starting tomorrow! I'm interested to see what the interpretation of Arthurian legend will be like. In my mind, the version that sticks out most is the BBC Merlin series that was on during the 2000s, so I'm curious to see what this will be like. I already know which versions of Artura and Lancelot I am going to choose.

Looking forward to seeing what Kiss of Death will be like, I do enjoy the crime genre. I'm torn between a couple versions of Vic to choose from at the moment.

Because Surrender 2 released in December, I think Getaway Girls will release in April and there won't be anything for wide release in March.

So I'm getting more and more sure that Roommates with Benefits will be a single Love Interest book that is also more mature. I'm also pretty sure it will be a college/university set book now that I have been able to see the image used for it a bit bigger.

It would be nice to see just a bit more info on more of the future books rather than just focusing on their main one for the month like when we got the sneak peak of Lewyn and Astoria weeks before Immortal Desires.

So that's it for this month, quite a lot more than there has been in some of the past Insiders.

Stupid Things (Good Outcomes) || JJ Maybank || One

Six weeks after the prologue, JJ goes home to see his family and let’s them know that he’ll be starting at the academy. Also some good old fashioned banter between Jombee and JJ.

Fandoms: Outer Banks, 9-1-1 (now on abc!)

Warnings: uncle JJ (bc that deserves its own warning). Mentions of JJ being a younger blonder Evan Buckley (which means Eddie has adopted him teehee). JJ has a crush. JJ finally feeling like he has a family I guess

The smell of burning charcoal was strong as JJ walked up the back steps towards his best friend's home. The chateau had long been rebuilt, with a couple extra bedrooms and another bathroom. What was once a rundown beach shack was now a proper house, with a back deck and a nice wrap around front porch.

He swung the back door open with ease, walking into the open kitchen to see Sarah chopping vegetables with John B nowhere in sight. He raised an eyebrow at her as she looked up at him, jumping when she realized who she was looking at.

“Oh my god.” She whisper-yelled. “What the fuck are you doing here!? Did John B just forget to tell me you were coming?”

“No.” He grinned. “He doesn’t know I’m here. Pope picked me up from the airport this morning. He told me about the surprise barbecue you’re throwing for Heyward, and I decided to show up. Where’s John B anyway?”

“Upstairs, getting Scout dressed for the day then he’s going to start grilling.” She told him. “Give me a hug before your favorite Routledge steals your attention for the rest of the morning. LA looks good on you, Maybank.”

“Thanks, Cameron.” He smiled, moving to hug the blonde before he headed upstairs, knocking on the toddlers door and opening it to see John B concentrating on finishing the pigtails he was putting her hair.

“Uncle Jay!” The girl practically squealed, launching herself at him just as her father finished her hair.

JJ bent down to scoop her into his arms, pressing his lips to her cheek. She grinned as he adjusted her on his hip, smiling at his pseudo brother who was just staring at him.

“Gonna catch flies that way, Bree.” He told him. “Hey Scout, why don’t you go see if Mama needs a hand making that salad. Uncle Jay will be downstairs in just a minute.”

As soon as the girl was down the stairs, JJ was walking across the room to sit on the bed next to his best friend. John B finally snapped back into reality, realizing his best friend really was there.

“When the hell did you get here?”

“About four o’clock this morning, Pope picked me up from the airport in Norfolk.” JJ smiled. “I’m gonna be busy for the next few months, so I decided to come visit this weekend. I already saw Heyward this morning, but I had to come see my favorite Routledge.”

“Of course, you didn’t come back for me, just my daughter.”

By the time everyone had gathered at the Routledge residence, it was obvious that JJ was nervous. He sat at the picnic table, sipping a beer while he watched his goddaughter talk her Uncle Pope into pushing her on the swing set. Scout’s laughter could be heard over a lot of things, making JJ smile as tried to hold a conversation with his makeshift family.

“So JJ, what’s with the LAFD shirt?”

Bobby Heyward’s voice brought JJ’s attention to the group again, and he gave them a weak smile. To be honest, he had forgotten that the black t-shirt he was wearing bore the LAFD logo. The shirt wasn’t his, although he did have four of his own waiting for him on his first day — the Monday after next when he returned to Los Angeles from his trip home. He could vaguely remember texting Eddie about the shirt when he landed in Norfolk while he was waiting for Pope to pick him up when he realized he was wearing it with a “I think I accidentally stole one of your shirts. It could be Buck’s, I don’t know.” All he’d gotten back was a cry-laughing emoji and a “don’t worry about it. We probably have 25 of them between the two of us. Now you’ll just have five.”

“Oh.” JJ spoke. “Uh, it’s either Eddie’s or Buck’s. I’m not sure. I was at their house for dinner and their son, Christopher was helping Buck serve dinner and accidentally tripped. I got lasagna all over my good button up, but they gave me a clean shirt.”

“Wait, who are Buck and Eddie?” John B raised an eyebrow over his own drink.

“Uh, well I guess I should start from the beginning.” JJ laughed. “Six weeks ago, I was sitting on the beach texting you guys and there was a little girl, eight years old. She was stuck in a rip current.”

As the words left his mouth, he could see the Heywards and his best friend visibly tense up, like they were all reminded of the past all of a sudden.

“She’s okay.” He confirmed. “She’s okay because I pulled a stupid JJ move, as Bobby would call it. I didn’t think twice, rushed in and got her out. I uh, provided CPR until the medics arrived. I actually saw her and her mother a couple weeks ago at the same beach and she’s fine. But uh, the medics and firefighters that turned up, they were with the LAFD 118. Uh, that night I ran into one of the medics, Mariella, and her brother Eddie. I uh, told them about Tyler.”

“You told strangers about Tyler?”

“I was a little tipsy, we were at the bar I work at.” JJ confirmed. “But I told them that I did it because I couldn’t watch another kid die like that. I couldn’t save Tyler, but I could save her. Anyway, they became friends because it gave me this feeling of being able to do something, to help people. They’ve helped, listened to me.”

“Well, I for one, think it’s great that you’re making friends in Los Angeles.” Yvonne Heyward spoke finally. “If one of my boys is going to live across the country from me, I’m glad he’s not alone.”

JJ couldn’t help but smile, thinking about how at just barely seventeen, the Heywards had seen their son show back up from South America with his two friends — dirty, injured and exhausted, and welcomed them into their home with open arms. Sure, the tiny third bedroom at the Heyward home had been cramped with two twin beds for him and John B, but it had felt like a semblance of home, a family.

They’d had family dinners, something JJ had never experienced except for the occasional dinner with his aunt and uncle when Luke would be drunk, stuck in a jail cell to sober up. Yvonne had helped JJ when he struggled with his homework, helping him finally get a diagnosis of ADHD and medication for it and it was thanks to her hard work that he managed to walk the stage with a B average his senior year.

“Well.” JJ started. He should just rip the bandaid off, right? How mad could they be? “I uh, I actually have the opportunity to do something with that feeling. I mean, to make it a career.”

He watched as his father figure raised an eyebrow at him comically. “Jesse James, what the hell do you mean?”

“Well there were options.” JJ explained. “My first option was I could work at dispatch. But you know my ADHD won’t let me sit still for long periods of time, so that really wasn’t a viable option. Finally Mari told me that in a couple weeks they’re starting a new class at the academy and I applied.”

“The academy?”

“The Los Angeles Fire Academy.” He clarified. “I got in, uh, I’m going to be a firefighter.”

The whole porch was quiet as everyone stared at him. It was almost as if he could feel the judgment coming off of John B and Sarah, but he couldn’t discern if it was good judgment or bad judgment. Finally, it was Pope that spoke.

“Are you sure JJ?”

“I’m sure.” The blonde confirmed. “I know that it’s a dangerous job, but really, I’ve always been the reckless kid, right? Besides, you wouldn’t believe the lack of fires we actually handle. It’s mostly car accidents and natural disasters.”

“Well.” Yvonne spoke again. “I think it’s a good thing, JJ. It’s something that will keep you busy, and it sounds like something you really want to do.”

“It is.” JJ confirmed again. “Mariella said she’d help me study for the written exams. That’s the part I’m the most nervous about, with the dyslexia and stuff.”

“I’m sure you’ll do just fine.”

The chateau was quiet, for the most part. JJ could hear the sound of the TV playing low downstairs, but he was too busy texting Mariella from where he had crashed on the guest bed.

The woman was currently on a twenty four hour shift and without so much as actually saying the word, had told JJ that they were having a relatively quiet night. No major calls, just a couple quick medical ones. JJ replied to her before opening the group chat that he’d somehow found himself added to that contained the entirety of the 118 and their families. Eddie had claimed it was because he was unofficially adopting him as a younger brother, even if he was a blonder version of his husband when they first met.

JJ: [photo] just thought you all deserved to see this picture of my favorite girl on the planet.

JJ: not being around her is the hardest part of being in la :(

Hen: oh my god I needed that cuteness.

Mari: how did Jombee manage to create something so cute

Eddie: I'm sorry, Jombee?

JJ let out a laugh, trying to decide if he should tell Eddie about why they call him Jombee, but before he could reply there was a knock on the door making him look up.

“Are you decent?”

“I’m not going to jack it in your house, JB, you can come in.” JJ rolled his eyes. The older boy came in, collapsing beside his friend on the bed.

“I’m so tired. It’s only like 9:30 and I’m ready for bed.” He sighed. “Don’t have kids, they're exhausting.”

“She’s not that bad.” JJ laughed. “You’re only twenty four. She’s two, how much damage is she going to do? Besides, won’t you have a second one here in a few months?”

“Don’t remind me.” John B groaned. “Listen, Scout was unplanned, but a welcome surprise. This one was just a surprise in general.”

“Have you ever stopped and considered your pullout game just sucks?”

“Rude. I don’t know how I’m the one with a kid and a half and your man whore ass doesn’t have any.” The brunette glared at him playfully.

JJ laughed as he texted Mari back. She’d just told him Eddie was still going on about “what kind of name is Jombee?!” and he was telling her about the conversation that he was having with said Jombee.

“Because my pull out game is significantly better than yours?” He laughed. “Oh and I know how to use a condom.”

“Okay enough about my sex life.” John B told him. “Who’s this girl you’re talking to and grinning like an idiot at your phone about?”

“Jesus Christ, Jombee, what are you, a fifteen year old girl?”

L [charmed again]: Aww. Where?

A: Sorry, hang on, got another “ask”…

R: I’ll be right back.

[scraping sound, footsteps, door opening and closing]

A [amused]: “Choose the form of your destroyer.” Oh, that’s cute. What should I say…?

L: “Death by Chocolate.” No, wait. “Snoopy.”

R: I have no idea if they want tummy rubs. …I fed one a doughnut.

L: Aww.

A: That can’t be good for it.

R: I dunno. They were in the break room eating the doughnuts, so I assume they eat doughnuts.

L: Rocz, I eat Wawa hoagies, and they are definitely not good for me.

A: A duck will go to town on some bread, but you’re not supposed to feed it to them.

R: He took it right outta my hand and said “Hail Gozer,” which makes me wonder if Milkshake and Pizza Boy could’ve spoken English to me, if they really wanted…

L: Dear God, you need a human roommate…

A: Frozen peas.

L: Pardon?

A: I’ve seen a GIF of it, you’re supposed to feed the ducks frozen peas. The truly terrifying thing is, by the time they’re done eating, the water is just filthy. They look cute, but I wouldn’t want one to bite me.

R: I’m not gonna tell a gargoyle it’s supposed to eat frozen peas.

A: I suppose not if you don’t want it to bite you.

L: “It”? Did you ask them their pronouns, Rocz?

R: I didn’t, but… They seemed busy.

A: Eating the doughnuts?

R: Yes. Also, opening some kinda gateway.

A [hesitantly]: I think I’ll… delete that post. Yes.

L: Any difference in the meat bouquet?

R: It’s kinda… singing? I guess? Kind of a howling noise.

A: Oh, like the portal.

L: Dang it, I was hoping for salami.

R: Alice, have you involved us in the summoning of a dark god or is the building just making us crazy?

[door slams]

L: Hey, Dev. We’ll get back on topic in a sec and I swear this one won’t go over an hour…

R: I don’t know about that.

A: What’s going on?

D: My awesome state-of-the-art control room is filling up with pink slime — to the point where I can’t even reach any of the buttons!

R [relieved]: Oh, thank God.

D: …and it’s all over my fucking shoes!

[squeaking, squelching]

L: Sounds like Vigo the Carpathian again.

A: Oh, just Vigo.

L: Want me to deal with him? I’ll deal with him. He’s a little bitch. I’ve already had Vigo, I’m immune.

A [bored]: We’ve all had Vigo.

R: He’s like covid.

L: Yeah, he won’t bump you off unless you’re already sick. Or a Republican.

R: But you repeat yourself.

L: Yeah.

A [brightly]: You know that time I embarrassed myself on social media? That was definitely Vigo and not me!

R: I thought maybe you took an Ambien.

A: Wait, which time are you thinking of?

L: Vigo the Carpathian got me banned from Twitter.

R: We are, all of us, Vigo, at all times.

A: How dare you hold us responsible for our actions.

D [mournfully]: There’s a really cool audio mixer in there and I didn’t even get a chance to try it!

L: Give me two seconds, I’ll deal with him…

D: …I even had a button I could press to drop boiling lava on you if you got off-topic, but I didn’t use it because I’m a merciful God.

A [consolingly]: Well, that’s very sensitive of you, Dev. Thank you. Really.

D: Liam, get me my lava button back. I need that lava button! It’s all I’ve ever wanted as an editor and a human being!

L: Don’t even worry about it!

[door opens, howling noise, door slams]

L: It’s not Vigo.

R: Aw, crap.

A: Who is it?

D: Yeah, just in someone nonbinary.

A: Describe them.

Man, someone who's more likely to have his arm broken, to get a tattoo like that and pours milk first... almost makes me want to meet him, he would fit just fine in Rissa!"

👑: "Honestly I thought you'd like to meet Viola more. She's the one who sent " I have an underground history in toxicology :) ", after all. 🔥: "I already have a poison enthusiast in my gang and I love her a lot, thank you very much!"
