fenris is funny but he doesn't joke around nearly as much as a purple hawke. can you imagine falling in love with someone who's often all smiles, doesn't take things too seriously (or seriously enough), and is the one to always lighten the mood and bring some whimsy into your life? they waited for you for three years, but the passing of their mother and the state of the city, and, well, everything, changed them. (purple -> red). they don't smile as much, they're far more serious and grounded (maybe a bit too serious), the whimsy they once had is all but gone. smiling and laughter and groaning at stupid jokes isn't filling your lives anymore. it's still there but there's so much less of it. the tragedy of turning into the funny one in a relationship. trying to up your game to make the one who always made you smile, cheer up, even if it's just a little. even if it won't change what happened. maybe one day, years from now, you'll be groaning at awful puns all day long again, but you wouldn't change it for the world.

I’ve just started season four but robby and miguel are the least interesting rivals/narrative foils in cobra kai for me. yeah they have the same dad/father figure and they’re boyfriends-in-law and robby broke miguel’s spine that one time but to put it in professional wrestling terms there’s no heel heat there. they don’t actually give a fuck about each other they’re just two dudes who fight because they’re on opposite sides of the great karate war of 2018. there’s no messy history no obsession not even any petty one-upmanship. I need more personal animosity. call me back when y’all hate each other for real
