Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Review
‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️SPOILERS BELOW ‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️
This is not a simple review. It will contain specifics and loud opinions.
———-
I just need to start this off by saying that I fucking love Hobie. He is definitely one of the best parts of the movie. I am so happy that the rumor I heard about Hobie liking Gwen and creating a “love triangle” was not true. I very much dislike “love triangles.” I was screaming the entire time Hobie was on screen. He’s an anarchy genius.
Pavitr is the sweetest lil bean. It was such a relief seeing a happy Spider-Man. I really loved seeing Indian culture represented in a simple everyday way.
The Morales family is amazing and I only want the best for them. Mr. and Mrs. Morales are trying hard to be good parents and it shows.
Peter B. Parker what the hell are you thinking bringing a child into a violent fight?? I can sort of forgive the first one but then lying to MJ about it. You were literally carrying MayDay in a bjorn on a bullet train going skyward. I understand that you want Miles to see MayDay and see the good he brought you but a violent environment is not the time or place.
Speaking of bad parenting, Gwen’s father is an immature ass. When Gwen said, “You’re a good cop, Dad.” I wanted her to follow it up with, “but not a good father.” Why can’t superheroes condemn their parents?
Superhero movies don’t allow characters to hold their parents accountable because they’re objectively made for children to enjoy and children aren’t meant to question or judge their parents. When a parent missteps the child is required to meet the parent where they stand by accepting that everything was done out of love. How the child feels and how the slight effected them isn’t discussed. Marvel did this with Howard and Tony as well as Odin, Loki, and Thor. It’s insane that Sony and Marvel deny children seeing their heroes protect themselves and set boundaries with the people who are supposed to care for them above all others.
Miles is truly a King. He’s better than all those other spider-people and right now I don’t think they deserve the good he’s gonna bring them.
I’m not the biggest fan of Gwen’s actions or the romance between her and Miles. I would have preferred to see Tiana Toomes with Miles but Miles does go the furthest with Gwen out of all his girlfriends, opinions can be made as to why that is, so Gwen and Miles makes sense. I feel that their relationship is still in the crush stages and after her betrayal it could be the end of it. Maybe we could see Tiana, Kate, or someone else in the future.
I’m sure Miles is going to forgive Peter and Gwen but I at least want him to make them sweat more or for them to admit in full why they betrayed him. In order for Sony and Marvel to stop showing their audiences that unconditional forgiveness is required characters need to communicate and reach an understanding that isn’t one person deciding to be the bigger person, especially the child.
It’s fascinating to me that spider-people are so willing to rationalize their losses that they will all follow Miguel when he is clearly wrong.
Miguel that world fell apart because you were in it not because a canon event didn’t happen. Canon events, termed by Miguel, are just common themes that have/will lead to similar events because of course they will. Someone not dying in one instance is not the same as someone making roots in a universe that is not their own. The universe is resilient and it will correct itself. If a person’s death is more important than their survival then don’t worry the universe will make sure that they die.
Unlike the spider-heroes who are rationalizing their loss via acceptance, Spot is resorting to anger. He’s just focusing on the brightest string, like the Maximoffs did with Tony.
I found Miguel’s theory of Miles being an anomaly to be interesting. As I previously stated the universe will only go along with things it agrees with, Miguel learned this lesson pretty traumatically, so I believe that 1610 Peter was going to die that night. And if spider-42 hadn’t been brought to universe-1610 then there wouldn’t be a Spider-Man in 1610. So I think that the universe agreed that 1610 Miles is meant to be Spider-Man. I mean as we have seen multiple times in Across alone, Miles is a good force in every universe. I’m wondering if in 42 Prowler Miles is considered an anti-hero instead of a villain. I mean it’s more likely that they will go with the storyline of Miles meeting the evil him to strengthen his own morals, reminiscent of Billy. But I think I’d prefer the first storyline. It fits the narrative of “fuck canon/the box you want me in.” Also does Miguel just not care about universes without Spider-Man because he could have figured out a way to save 42 if he wanted? I’m so excited to see what happens with 42 Prowler and the final fight.
Absolutely loved all the cameos. All the spiders were perfectly done. Someone correct me if I’m wrong (pls pls send me screen grabs) but I didn’t see 199999 Peter in the holograms. Miguel mentions him in a derogatory way but that’s it. I might be reaching since 199999 Peter is my favorite but I think this is because Miguel groups Miles and Peter together. Miguel is okay with not saving everyone which is something Miles and 199999 Peter refuse to do. 199999 Peter’s main motto is “If you have the power to stop the bad things from happening and they happen anyway then they happened because of you.” Honestly, Peter holds himself to this way to tightly but Miguel does the exact opposite. He doesn’t even try to help people and then absolves himself from guilt. Peter literally almost destroyed the multiverse trying to help people and then lost everything fixing it, again Miguel did the opposite.
My final thoughts about Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse are fuck Miguel, I’m disappointed that so many spider-heroes would want to rationalize their trauma so bad that they would intentionally hurt one of their own, and of course the animation is breathtaking. Can’t wait for Beyond the Spider-Verse!
ps. I saw a tweet where someone said they want RiRi to get the Miles treatment and I totally agree. I would die to see RiRi Williams in 2D animation! She’s phenomenal with a great story, plus we’d get a young Tony Stark in 2D. RDJ would voice him no question. We’d be winning winning.

"Her Outlaw Hero" (Sons Of Anarchy-Chibs Chapter fic) Chapter 5
Tumblr media
Disclaimer: I own nothing but the Original Characters in this story. I am only using Kurt Sutter's characters from Sons of Anarchy. He created the characters and the show—I am in no way taking any credit for his creations. This story is for entertainment only. Content/Warnings: Violence against both men and women including rape. Summary:
Adelaide Watson is fleeing Tennessee—on the run from her violent past.
When she has a car accident on a lonely road in Charming, California, she has no choice but to walk to town for help. But help comes to her instead. In a very unexpected way.
Chapter 5
Tara was scribbling out a prescription for some pain medication while Chibs got Adelaide Watson settled into a bed. He quickly placed a pack of ice in each of her armpits, underneath her back and neck. Then hesitating for a second, but knowing what he had to do to help the woman, he hurriedly placed another one at the juncture of her thighs. Then he covered the woman lightly with a dampened sheet to aid in keeping her cool. He finished by aiming a fan at her and turning it on the high setting.
Adelaide whimpered lightly, and her head shifted on the pillow. "Mmm…Cold…" she murmured incoherently in her sleep.
"I know," Chibs told her softly. "Just hang in there. We're gonna get you well." He touched her forehead lightly, and looked over at Tara across the room. "She seems to be staying cool so far."
Tara nodded. "Be sure and keep a check on her actual temperature though. Every twenty minutes. If it approaches 104, get her back in an ice bath."
"I will," Chibs replied slowly, watching intently as she wrote on her prescription pad.
"What is it," she asked, seeing the concern on his face.
"Maybe you shouldn't write her a prescription after all," Chibs stated, obviously thinking it over. "If someone truly is looking for her—someone she's obviously afraid of, a scrip would leave a paper trail."
"Well what else can I do," Tara asked, a frown crossing her face. "When she wakes up she'll be in pain. She's going to need something."
"Write it out for me," Chibs suggested. "That way, she'll have access to the pills, but they'll be in my name so it won't help anyone find her."
Her hazel gaze stared him down for a moment, deep in thought. "Why are you doing this," she asked. "I mean, you're asking me to break the law in writing a false prescription, all for a woman you don't even know."
Chibs shrugged, at a loss for words. "I don't know, really. I just…"
"Does this have anything to do with Fiona's death?"
Chibs' dark eyes shot to hers in an instant. "No. Why would it?"
"Well, Chibs, it doesn't take a shrink to see the possible connection. You feel guilt because you couldn't save her from Jimmy O' Phelan before you were able to kill him. Maybe you're trying to make up for that somehow..."
He shook his head. "No. I cared about Fi, and it kills me that I couldn't save her. But it's got nothin' to do with this woman," he indicated Adelaide with a slight nod of his head in her direction. "I just want to help her get well. She's a scared, defenseless woman who's running for her life. She needs our help."
Tara stared at him skeptically for a moment but finally nodded. "Okay." She ripped up the slip of paper she'd been writing on and started a new one. She wrote on a another one and then handed them both to him. "I wrote one for hydrocodone, and I also wrote one for some 800 milligram Ibuprofen. If her pain begins to subside, try to wean her off the hydrocodone and give her the Ibuprofen instead."
Chibs nodded and pocketed the prescriptions. "Thanks, Doc."
"You're welcome. Now, I've got to get back and finish my shift, but I'll drop by afterward to see how she's doing. Call me in an emergency. Oh, and I left a syringe with another dose of Phenobarbital should she start convulsing again."
Tig and Quinn entered the dorm as Tara left and spoke softly, so as not to disturb Adelaide's sleep. "We got her car towed back here," Quinn reported. He handed over a suitcase. "This was inside. I figured she'd need it."
"Yeah, thanks," Chibs said, setting the suitcase in the floor at the foot of the bed.
"How's she doing," Tig asked, his vivid blue eyes reflecting his concern.
"I guess she's okay, for right now," Chibs answered, sitting down in a chair beside Adelaide's bed. "She only came out of the ice bath a few minutes ago but, so far, her temperature seems to be staying cooled down."
"That's great," Tig replied. "Maybe she'll be good as new soon."
"How's your hand," Chibs asked, fighting off the urge to chuckle.
"It's okay," Tig said, lifting his bitten hand to show off the gauze bandaging. "It wasn't as bad as it looked. Why I'm the one to always get bitten, I'll never know," he laughed. "But, at least this time it wasn't on my-"
"Please…"
They all turned to Adelaide, whose head shifted restlessly back and forth against her pillow.
"Please… don't…"
"I wonder who she's so scared of," Tig asked.
"I don't know," Chibs answered. "But judging from all those bruises, she has reason to be scared. I'll find out who it is, as soon as I can."
"Well, Tig, let's go finish these repos," Quinn said. "Then we need to figure out what her car is gonna need toward repairing."
"Yeah, yeah," Tig grumbled as they exited the dorm. "Just a regular busy day."
Chibs chuckled and shook his head at the two men's grumblings when Adelaide caught his attention again.
"Please… Someone… H-help me…"
She became more restless and her hand twitched and formed a fist.
"Shhh," Chibs shushed her gently and brushed his finger down her cheek in a soothing gesture. "Nobody's gonna hurt ya now," he whispered. "You're safe."
"No…" she whimpered. "Never… Safe again…"
The corner of Chibs' mouth twitched as if to fight off a smile. The woman obviously has no idea who she's stumbled upon, he thought. Between him and the rest of the club members, the woman was as safe as she could get. She may not realize it, but she lucked out when Chibs and Tig found her.
Instinctively, he took her small hand in his own and gave it a gentle squeeze. "I promise you, lass," he drawled. "We won't let anyone hurt ya."
He started to pull his hand out of hers so he could call his daughter, Karianne and inform her that he'd be staying in a dorm for the night. To his surprise, Adelaide's fingers curled around his and held his hand in place. She whimpered softly in protest to his leaving.
Surprised, Chibs settled back in his seat a few minutes more, and took a moment to look his fill of her.
In spite of the bruises marring her pale skin, the woman was stunning. Her long, dark wavy hair was currently in a loose braid that draped over her shoulder. Though her eyes were closed in sleep, he recalled the icy shade of blue that stood out drastically against the long black lashes that fringed them. Chibs' gaze moved to her mouth and he couldn't help but visually feast on the full lips. They were devoid of any artificial color and at the moment were unusually pale. But he had no doubt that in good health, they would be pink and soft and begging to be kissed.
He instantly shook his head and tried to clear his mind of the thought. What the-, he asked himself. Only an hour ago the woman was at death's door and here I am drooling over her like some pre-teen lad.
Frustrated with himself, he pulled out his cell phone to call Karianne.
00000000
Furious, Liam Walker paced back and forth in what used to be Adelaide's bedroom, looking for clues as to where she might have gone.
"How could Laidey do this to me," he growled to himself. "I took good care of her and all I asked in return was that she do what I say. I loved her. I'd even been willing to abide by her silly no-sex rule." He sat down on the edge of her bed and stewed some more.
Till she decided to taunt me with it, he justified in his twisted mind. And then to assault me and leave me for dead, like the little coward she is, he raged. She'll pay. I'll find her. And then I'm going to finish what I started, he vowed, feeling the searing frustration of his unmet needs. He'd fallen unconscious before his pleasure had even plateaued. And then she really will die.
Feeling fueled to start his search, he grabbed her cell phone off her night table and began going through her contacts to get in touch with. He dialed the first one on the list and made his voice sound shaky with emotion.
A second later, an elderly woman's voice answered with a soft, "Hello?"
"Hello, Abbie—Abbie Simpson? This is Liam Walker, Adelaide Watson's boyfriend. I was going through Laidey's contact list on her phone and came across your number. I was wondering… If you've," he paused for effect, and then bit back a fake sob for sympathy. "I was wondering if you have seen her. She's missing and I can't find her anywhere." He listened as the woman spoke kindly to him.
"Why no, I've not seen her in ages, dear. She quit coming to my church a couple years ago."
Quickly, Liam's politeness dwindled. "You have no idea where she is then?"
"No, I'm sorry, I don't-"
Liam hung up without saying goodbye before the woman could finish her sentence. Then he was on to his next contact.
Angela McSands. Laidey's best friend, he thought. And idea struck him then on how to trick some information out of her. Or at the very least, find out how much she knew about his and Laidey's relationship. If she knew too much, she'd have to be disposed of.
Moments later, he dialed her from his burner so she wouldn't recognize the phone number and waited till she answered.
"Hello?"
"Am I speaking with Angela McSands," Liam asked, disguising his voice slightly.
"Yes, this is she," came the cautious reply. "Who's calling?"
"This is Detective Jacobs with Nashville P.D. I received a missing persons report on a…" He paused as if reading from the faux report. "An Adelaide Watson. It says she's been missing for about two days. Do you know anything about that?"
"No," came the immediate, surprised reply. "But… I don't understand. How did you get my number?"
"We took a number of items as evidence—one being Ms. Watson's cell phone. She left it behind, and we went through the contacts to see if anyone knows of her whereabouts. Her boyfriend stated you were her best friend, so that's why I've called you. You don't have any idea where Ms. Watson would be?"
"N-no," Angela said again. "I-I I mean, I saw her on Sunday evening. But after our visit, I have no idea where she went. I assumed back to her house."
She's good, Liam thought, impressed with the woman's ability to lie on the spur of the moment. There's no way Laidey didn't tell her about what happened between us. Angela's almost as good a liar as me, he grinned. To test his theory he took the questioning in another direction.
"Sunday…So you saw her the day she disappeared. You're probably the last person to have seen her. Did she seem okay when you saw her," he asked. "Did she seem worried or scared or anything like that? Or had she mentioned an altercation of any kind?"
"No, not at all," Angela answered. "We just had dinner together and chatted for a while. She was in a really good mood and didn't seem troubled in any way."
Bingo, Liam thought. She didn't have dinner with Laidey on Sunday, I did. And Laidey most certainly wasn't in a good mood either. "Okay," he tried to sound as if he was taking notes. "And how did she appear? Did she look nervous or scared? Was she disheveled or anything?"
"No," replied Angela, beginning to sound slightly irritated. "I've told you, she seemed absolutely fine."
Wrong again, Liam thought triumphantly. "That's alright, Ms. McSands. I'm just trying to decipher if she disappeared of her own free will, or if she met with some possible foul play."
"Well, seeing as she is like my sister, she would've told me if something was wrong. Now, if you don't have any more questions, I really need to get back to my work. I have a ton of papers to finish grading."
With that, Liam heard the line click and then there was only silence.
"And I have all the answers I need," he thought out loud, with a devious grin. His green eyes glinted maliciously. "I think I'll pay you a visit very soon, Ms. McSands."

I know nothing about anarky. What makes him so trans?
Thank you so much for asking, anon! I'm gonna go ahead and jump right in! (And I will do my best to keep this focused on gender, with very light context, so if you want to know more about this character in general, please feel free to ask follow-up questions!)
Word count: A little over 2100
Trigger Warnings for: mentions of gender dysphoria, discussions of gender presentation and bodies, assumptions of a character's gender identity, comic-standard violence, transphobia, and death. (Note: If I've missed something that you'd like a heads-up for both in this list, and before it happens in the text, let me know! <3)
So, in 1989, Alan Grant/DC debuted one Lonnie Machin a.k.a. Anarky!
Lonnie was posed as a challenger to Batman, someone who makes him think about his methods and choices. Alfred comments in Lonnie's debut, even, that Lonnie is a "kindred spirit" to Batman. Bruce disagrees, but he does admit that there's some similarities there, which calls into question vigilantism as a form of justice, and what methods vigilantes should and shouldn't be using, in Bruce's mind. (Sidenote: there's this great moment in Tec 609 where Lonnie analyzes how Batman works, and it makes Lonnie and Bruce's similarities and differences extremely stark. It's one of my favorite parts of Lonnie's two-part comic debut).
At any rate, I bring all this up to establish that, as a baseline, Lonnie's character tends to call into question understood norms. Lonnie himself is a subversion of many thought-to-be-truths. Anarchism itself does the same thing. By that idea alone, there is already a baseline for defying things like the gender binary, assigned gender at birth, and expected gender roles and presentation.
With that in mind, I'm going to get into some specific moments that really solidify the many possibilities for a trans headcanon for this character! (I myself headcanon Lonnie as nonbinary, but there's arguments that can made for any identity under the trans umbrella, which is what this essay will argue for!).
The first point I want to make is about Lonnie's first Anarky costume. This one:
Tumblr media
I chose this specific drawing of the costume because it's on the cover of Lonnie's debut comic, which means that this is the very first instance of Lonnie that many people ever saw. It also shows very well the aspects of this costume that I want to talk about.
We've got the hat with the circle-A, which draws attention to it by how much it stands out. We have the massive, flowing cloak. And we have the absence of a visible face. I'm gonna talk about each of those in turn.
The Hat - the hat's main purpose is to show you exactly who and what Lonnie aligns with as Anarky. The name isn't just for show; the circled-A, according to its real-world meaning, summarizes how order can found through anarchy, a theory that Lonnie is an adamant believer in, and defender of. Anarky is announcing for you who Anarky is. Think about gender presentation now, and what quick, shorthand ways we use to try and present as our desired gender (not just male, female, nonbinary, but also a flower, the color blue, a certain aesthetic that cultivates gender euphoria-- there's as many genders as we have the imagination to create!) Right away, we are already being shown a person that Lonnie wants you to think of him as.
The Cloak (warning for a mention of dysphoria and body image here) - This cloak is huge and billowing and closed, so there is nothing that you can see beneath it; it's all draped red fabric with no form or shape. It honestly makes me think of dysphoria hoodies, and how they can be protective and comfortable because they hide one's body. And in fact, this is exactly why Lonnie chose this cloak: it hides his frame. In the comic, it's implied to be because Lonnie is a young teenager, and he wants others to think that he's an adult, so that they'll listen to him, but the way I see it: it also serves to hide Lonnie's gender. Anarky is a reflection of the common people, and is determined to be their amplifier. Anarky being of an indeterminate gender is one further way that Anarky could relate to the people that Lonnie is trying to uplift.
The Mask (warning for a mention of deadnames in this section)- In this cover, it's drawn in shadow, but in the comic itself, we see that Anarky wears a gold, full-face mask. It completely obscures any identifying features on Lonnie's face. (As a nonbinary person, myself... what a mood). This is because Lonnie does not want Lonnie to be recognized as a voice of the people, but Anarky. In Anarky (1997), Lonnie explains that he does not care who Batman is under the mask, because Batman is the figure he's concerned with. I argue that this can be applied to Anarky, too. The point of Anarky is that the people can find strength and power through this figure, as I've said probably too many times now. Repetition for emphasis! Gotta love that English Lit degree. Anyway, this is very important because it's the same as the Spider-Man effect: anyone could be Spider-Man. Anyone could be Anarky. Now, what I mean by "Anyone could be Anarky," is that anyone could be wearing that mask. Something that I find extremely fascinating is that Lonnie reportedly does not care about how others think of him-- yet, he does protect Anarky's reputation. I think that this is because, the moment that the common people no longer feel safe around Anarky, is the moment that Anarky can no longer exist the way that Anarky is supposed to. When that presentation, when that self, is damaged by the others around it, what can we do but feel as if we have to defend it, even if we don't really care how others think of us? There's a lack of attention of Lonnie Machin, but there is an overabundance of attention on Anarky (see: Shadow of the Bat #41, where Lonnie signs a letter as Anarky, claiming that "Lonnie Machin" is the alias). This calls to attention the idea of deadnames. If Anarky is the desired presentation and identity, then it could be said that Lonnie acts as the deadname.
Tumblr media
Now, if you're not totally regretting asking yet, let's move on to point #2! The second costume!
Tumblr media
This one will be quicker: The main idea I want to get across here is that once again, we're seeing rapid declarations of identity with the large circle-A on the chest, and that we've still retained the lack of identifying features.
(Second warning for assumptions of someone's gender. Another warning as well that if you read the comic mentioned below, the comment that the reporter makes is presented to be a joke, which I do believe was made in poor taste. Please proceed with caution, and take care of yourself if you choose to read it <3).
What's significant to me about this costume is what happens in Young Justice: Sins of Youth #1. Anarky attends a rally for young heroes, and the reporter commenting on the event doesn't recognize all of the heroes present, and so has to rely on extremely vague assumptions about the characters. It's the specific assumption that this reporter makes that intrigues me: The reporter assumes that Anarky is a woman. Based on what we've been discussing so far, this tells me, personally, that what I think Lonnie is trying to do with Anarky's costume is working. It's difficult to figure out anything about Anarky as a person, and so the people looking at Anarky try to guess. It's even more significant to me that this happens after we lose the shapeless cloak. Even without the cover that that cloak gave, Anarky still has no identifying features beyond what Lonnie wants you to see.
(Warning for violence, bodily harm, torture, and transphobic comments in this next section. No pictures will be shown. We are still discussing expectation and perception of one's gender that may cause dysphoria as well. Please proceed with caution, and take care of yourself <3).
Another significant piece of this costume for me is that in an encounter with Ra's al Ghul, the circle-A on the costume serves as the inspiration for a form of torture, wherein the circle-A is cut into Lonnie's chest. It's taking a piece of Lonnie's identity presentation and forcibly making it a part of his body. I bring this up because I think that it's important to discuss the idea of presentation being forced upon us. Even after someone comes out, we are still held to certain expectations of how we present our chosen identities.
Another example of expectation in Lonnie's own experiences is how Shadow of the Bat #40-41 raises the notion that Lonnie was expected to become the All-American Boy by his parents. He's told that he's outside of what he was "supposed" to be: he doesn't play baseball, he should have been a doctor or a lawyer, and he reads things that are seen as abnormal (leftist political theory).
Lonnie expresses in a letter that he writes in #41 that he hopes that one day, his parents will be proud of him, and he calls himself their son. This is note-worthy because he is fulfilling part of the role that his parents placed on him ("boy"), but he also admits in this letter that he knows that he cannot be what they want him to be. He asks that they are the ones who transform their thinking, to accept him as he is, not as they want him to be. This is also the letter which he uses to fake the death of Lonnie Machin, so that he can work full-time as Anarky. This letter reads as a parallel to a coming out letter, in my opinion. (Transphobia warning) It also lines up with this specific notion that certain parents of trans children have expressed before, which is that it feels as though the kid they knew from birth is dying or dead. As someone whose parents expressed that idea to me, I do not support telling your child this, as it's rooted in transphobia, but it is significant to me that this is something we see in a situation that strongly mirrors what Lonnie is doing in the comics.
My third point that I'd like to bring up is extremely short, but it has to do with that A scar, so warnings for blood and bodily harm in the images that you will see if you click on the links provided. I'm providing links, so that anyone who wants to read this still can, but can opt in to seeing images of a bloody injury.
Lonnie, particularly in Anarky (1999), is drawn in parallel to two women in classic art.
Lonnie + Truth Coming Out of Her Well to Shame Mankind
Lonnie + Ophelia
Lonnie Ophelia + Bruce Ophelia (supplementary)
These parallels do not feel accidental to me-- especially the one with Truth.
It's noteworthy to me that Lonnie Machin is almost always drawn with long hair. Now, anyone can have long hair, of course, but when you look at the All-American Boy expectation, and then you look back to how Lonnie looks even out of the Anarky costume, I think there's something to be said there about how even Lonnie Machin subverts gender expectation.
Now, since this has already gotten longer than I ever meant for it to be, I'm going to stop here for now, since these are the main points that I wanted to cover in discussing the trans umbrella headcanon for Lonnie!
I want to close just by saying that all headcanons are valid for this character, and so I don't intend to imply that anyone who reads this HAS to feel the way that I do. This is just how I see and read Lonnie's character/comics, and it brings me a lot of joy, particularly as someone who relates heavily to a lot of Lonnie's experiences in the trans parallel experience kind of way. I love this character to pieces, and it brings me nothing but happiness to share him with you and anyone else who read this far. So I'll also say, to anyone reading this: thank you so much for hearing me out!! It means a lot. I hope that you took caution and care in reading about some of these topics, since I know firsthand how hard they can be to experience, so do something nice for yourself today! Take some time to breathe, slow down, and enjoy a nice treat or two. You've earned it!
And if this essay has convinced you to read more about Lonnie Machin: welcome to the autonomous Machin collective! We're happy to have you here! <3

I don't know about that new subreddit, one of the mods seems to regularly post in r/Conservative and has quite a few... hot takes, to say the least, that I doubt will go very well with most users here. Don't take my work for it: imgur(.)com/a/BFOT6cI
Tumblr media
Hello, I'm actually glad you brought this up! The person in question is named Bird on KaE Discord, he's one of my moderators. He's the one who created the subreddit in the first place actually.
In the early days of the KaE Discord, it was like the wild wild west lol, not only was it anarchy and messy...we had alot of political talk in there as well.
We soon learned that it made things too incendiary, and put people at risk of getting banned for emotional outbursts. So we implemented new rules in my server that political talk was now prohibited. Why? Because it has no place in a community that's centered and focused on Interactive Fiction. We came in with the same mindset concerning the subreddit. It's a place that allows discussion only on the topic of Interactive Fiction. Bird and I actually discussed whether or not we should use different usernames for the subreddit. One out of fear for incurring the wrath of some entities, and the other for letting ourselves be open for inspection to the world. It's a very naked feeling, having your commentary be exposed for everyone to see, to judge. But we said fuck it. We shouldnt hide.
His and mine political leanings havent been a problem ever since we prohibited the allowance of political talk in the server.
My server has now grown to over 1000 members, and the moderation of Bird and the rest of the team is a main reason for it.
I invite anyone and everyone to look inside my server. See the vibe of the place. You'll find that the community is one focused on not just Kingdoms and Empires, but the Interactive Community as a whole.
We actually expected this to happen. So thank you for ripping the band aid off and letting us talk openly about it. However, I'd like everyone to know, this anon has sent the same message to every single person who has reblogged the subreddit post. I sense shady shit is underfoot. Honestly, this tactic may have worked if everyone was decentralized and unable to communicate with each other. But thankfully, the Interactive Community is becoming more centralized and united. I have a suspicion on who you are, but baseless claims are below me, and not worth anyone's time.
Just like your baseless claim of Bird's ability to moderation being in question. Not when the past indicates otherwise.
Also, I hope you know: If you continue digging up the past or mass message people who support the subreddit with more screenshots and the like...you're gonna get outed as someone who wants to see this subreddit fail, right? You won't be someone who simply wants to call to alarm a mod being conservative and warn others who disagree with those views. You couldve simply brought this out into the open at the subreddit itself, where everyone could see and we couldn't delete it without looking like hypocrites. Instead you'll be exposed as a bad actor with malicious intentions. Ah but i digress, now im the one throwing baseless claims...until you prove me right :)
Also, shameless advertising: https://discord.gg/73WdMMNXvm

I love Billy but honestly the Duffers never actually intended him to be a big character that much. That is why he just got shafted. All of his background and characterization was propped by Dacre's great acting, but Billy was jut written to die.
I don't think the Duffers actually care about their side characters, this is just ''amazing'' writing because they also give them so much unnecessary screen time to only kill them off to further main characters' plots. Barb, Bob and Eddie used for the same thing. I get the frustration of Eddie fans, because they expected or wanted to see something more from him. But objectively, he was written to die to further Dustin's arc. The fact that there's only two people who actually seem to be said about Eddie's death prove this. It's only about Dustin and Wayne (Wayne is probably gonna die too, I just realized it while writing... but anyways)
I mean, we didn't even get to see Patrick's side of the story, just completel negligence (a rather ironic thing).... They shafted Max and even thought about legit killing her. Kinda seemed weird, but I wonder if they don't even exactly see Max as a ''main main'' character. She mostly just died to further Lucas and El's arcs. Watch Max not even have a scene that much and that most of her character will only be told by El and Lucas' POVs.
Steve was written to die, too, but they decided to keep him. There were a few storyline options for Billy including one that would incorporate him into the group, I believe. They had planned to kill him off earlier as well, but they decided to stretch that out. However, these narrative decisions were made due to the creative input of their actors.
I wouldn't be surprised if they just never mentioned Wayne again. They had planned for Eddie to die from the very beginning, confessing that they thought he wasn't going anywhere in life anyway which just goes to show their classism. They continue to kill off these really interesting characters, using their traumas as decoration, and then it's a surprise that the audience actually cares about these people.
I'm used to creators doing this. It's why I dropped The Walking Dead and Sons of Anarchy. It created this obnoxious trend where showrunners thought that to be "realistic" they needed to regularly kill off characters the audience had become attached to, even at the expense of character building. I don't think tragedies are bad at all, but a real tragedy is still character driven over plot driven. These people go 'how many people do we have to kill in our show to drive the plot forward?' and they don't look back.

Hello hello!!!! Im really curious to know more about your wild west au🥰 I have two old west oc myself and love hearing about other people's oc!👀 are you gonna do a world setting too??
Hey, Mariam! Sorry for takin' so long to get back to you. Things have been a bit all over the place on my end lately, but thank you for the ask!
I don't wanna give too much away, cuz I have some fun connections that I'm gonna bring to the table. Mainly, I have my three boys. Christian, Jimmy, and Matthew. The first two (my Charlie Hunnam and Garrett Hedlund muses) are brothers. Matt (my Boyd Holbrook muse) is Christian's best-friend that he meets in his unit while fighting for Ulysses S. Grant. That puts them around 21 yrs old during the Cold Harbor War, which was in 1864.
From there, the details of their timeline and story is getting worked out, but eventually, they start traveling across country. Putting the boys around 35 years of age once they do get to where they're going. They're set to be in Santa Fe around 1876. Eventually ending up around Pendleton, Oregon in 1878-1880. That's altered, too, cuz the Pendleton Round-Up was founded in 1910, but I'm changing that timeline to fit my story a bit better.
There are variations to actual events and people from that era, keeping this more AU, but some very well known ones are going to be added. I will say that I know, for sure, that Josiah "Doc" Scurlock will get tossed into the mix. He'll be a big influence on Christian and will end up joining them in Oregon after leaving Billy the Kid's gang after the Lincoln County War. It'll be a bit different from history, but also similar, since Doc did leave Billy's crew after that with his wife. He'll also be somewhat similar to how he was portrayed in "Young Guns". I know those films are inaccurate to the actual history of who that guy was, so I'm stealing a bit of both fact and fiction.
I have plans for all kinds of people to throw into their travels, because the places they'll end up, along with the timelines of their journey's, will put them smack dab in the middle of some of the most notorious showdowns and bumping into some of the most infamous outlaws of the Wild West.
I'm not able to sit and write very much these days, just because I don't have a good computer chair and am constantly busy. Plus, my health (mainly my brain from epilepsy) has been draining me more than it used to. So sadly, I don't know how soon I'll have anything substantial to post. I'm just playing with outlines, research, and setting up a basic timeline for now.
One thing I can tell you for certain is that my title of my Wild West AU is "There Have Always Been Crows". It's both giving a nod to Charlie Hunnam's "Jax Teller" character from Sons of Anarchy, as well as to my muse, Matt, in his biker AU. He's obsessed with crows in that verse and feeds them regularly. There will be different references to crows off and on in the Wild West AU, starting with a battle scene and then crows bein' brought up at various moments down the line. For instance, Jimmy mistaking a raven for a crow; having the birds steal food out of the guys' packs while they go take a leak while riding across country; random stuff like that. Eventually, the crows will have a deeper meaning and significance for the end of the storyline. Already got that scene in my head.
As for world building, I'm sticking to as much of the legitimate history as possible, but bein' careful with specifics. Especially, where the Chinese immigrants and Native Americans are involved in the creation of Pendleton, Oregon, as well as bringing in more women farmhands. There's a lot of misinformation and hidden truths that the settlers tried to cover up, but also some very cool factoids that were written into the history books. Like that it was much more common for women to be working ranches by themselves, because the men were off at war, or helping to mine and work the steel mills in order to create more guns and supplies for troops.
Also, Pendleton was one of the first, colonized towns in the Pacific Northwest that had Chinese immigrants running their own shops. I'm having it set that Doc Scurlock's wife ends up opening and running her own clothing store in town, since he's friends with the boys who are helping to make that town become a wildly huge success story with their assistance in building up the rodeo.
I should probably stop, cuz I'm giving a lot of info away. LMAO! I get chatty when I get passionate and giddy about somethin' like this. Heh! But thank you for the ask and I hope this helps answer some of your questions! Feel free to DM me or send asks anytime! Even if I'm slow, I will respond, eventually. XD

Collin Rüppells Condor/The Black Buzzard
Basic info
Tumblr media
Collin Condor is a buzzard clone who keeps his backstory close to his chest and has completely discarded his previous identity by not only changing his name to Collin Rüppells Condor, but also by using the foreverglades fountain water to de-age himself into a younger man. He was able to use the fountain to start his own business in raising and processing poultry called "Rüppells Poultry". From an outsiders perspective his product seemed to pop up and spread out of nowhere and even started a fast food franchise from it. He had also hired Susan full-time as his Secretary and Personal Assistant, along with giving her lodging in the mansion that was his creators.
Tumblr media
He also moonlights as his secret alter-ego, the self proclaimed villain dubbed The Black Buzzard, as a way to rebel against his creators legacy and prove the point that he's his own person and not just another copy of someone else. At this point he's created his own machine with the solego circuit in his basement that's supposed to be more stable than the ramrod or solego vortex which he uses to go through different points in time and cause chaos in, both in his and other timelines. He calls it The Solego Glass.
All this as well as his origins are things he's careful to keep out of the public knowledge and is only known by Susan, who also moonlights as his henchperson.
His main goal is to spread as much chaos as possible by means of all sorts of petty mischief, and the only thing that would make it better- to get his birdified creator back from Magica to make him watch the anarchy he brings.
Tumblr media
His main weapon of choice is the umbrella-copter, powder by the lightning gem that was made in the labs of Cape Suzette. It's able to have multiple styles of combat. When the vulture's jaw (the trigger) is pressed shut with the sword attachment unshielded the blade is electrified, turning it into a long taser that can stun an opponent or cause them to drop any metal weapon they're wielding with a single perry, or the blade attachment can be unplugged and used as a regular sword and the handle becomes a lightning pistol for long range attacks- and of course, the blade doubles as a connector for the helicopter attachment, you don't want to try to turn the helicopter feature on without the blade, or you're gonna have a bad time...

FF16 Blogging: I just got back from Kanver. Spoilers and whatnot.
I’ve only been playing a little bit for the last couple of days. And I don’t feel like I’ve hit any big “aha!” moments in the story.
Like first, after Twinside, was the “go around and see how shitty things are” quest where you have to help Martha’s Rest, Northreach, Dalimil. And basically, whatever Primogenesis does, exactly, it’s fuckin’ things up. The sky is all weird, there’s aether and akashic popping up everywhere, Ultima’s thralls are causing trouble, and governments basically aren’t a thing anymore on Storm, so there’s like anarchy and lots of bandits and other ne’er-do-wells are running rampant. Okay, got it.
Then you go Kanver to help Mid and Gav, except nothing really happens there. You’re too late to save the city, Harbard challenges you and then just kind of dies for no adequately explored reason. The most interesting part was Barnabas showing how powerful he actually is by giving you what-for. Annnnnd he’s kidnapped Jill. Great. I mean, I was gonna have to go to Waloed anyway. But I’m miffed she’s been fridged.
I guess it’s kinda cool that Joshua has had this whole secret service/CIA network at his disposal the whole time. But he hasnt yet explained how he came to find out about Ultima and its machinations. Also, and this is fandom-brain, but are he and Jote a thing? The way he kisses her forehead has a kind of intimacy, but it’s almost more fraternal. And there was something in the scene where he meets Mid and is all formal with her, which she doesn’t know how to take, that made me wonder.
I’m still trying to work out what Mythos and Ultima are, exactly. Like, in an ontological sense. Some of Harbard/Barnabas’s comments (“Mythos is everything”) have me really curious for them to nail that down, but I don’t know how much they’re really going to explain it. I guess we’ll see.
Most of what I have this time is stray thoughts, though:
I finally beat Atlas (at lvl 38), but damn if it didn’t take everything I had (including 2 Elixirs), plus Joshua and Jill’s help.
I dunno what’s going on with Oscar. But sure, send him to help rebuild Eastpool; there’s some poetry in that.
Lol @ Clive’s terrible acting in Dalimil. And also the clear LotR reference in the name Underhill. Doesn’t L’ubor even say something like “we don’t want to do the name Underhill a disservice?” Mmhm. I see you.
Some of the sidequests from the Hideaway in this bit were kind of fun. Clive’s a good teacher—the way he responds to the kids who are rebuilding Mid’s scales by indulging their questions while gently pointing them back on track—that was a really well-written bit that did a lot for him as a character in my mind. Also, I love the way he’s kind of afraid of Charon during that quest with “Wetlegs” and stuff. He’s a likeable guy—gruff, but with a soft, creamy interior.
So there’s that quest when you’re on the way to Kanver where you help the dying Republican soldiers deal with some akashic and, at the end, instead of being grateful, the guy you save is super pissed off cos he knows who you are and hates you. I let him live instead of fighting him, which I feel was the morally correct choice, but is that gonna bite me in the ass later? Cos he did swear revenge and all.
I forget exactly how it happened, but I have a note appreciating that they worked in the Phoenix Down. It’s such an iconic item.
Oh, and I finished the Quinten/Lostwing quest. There’s a lot in this game about like, finding purpose. I’d wanna play through it again with this in mind, but it’s interesting to see how it’s functioning as a piece of art created in the current socio-political environment.
I dunno. Again, I feel like I haven’t accomplished much in the past few hours of play. But I also feel like it’s the calm before the storm of the final push. Presumably I’m gonna cross over to Ash next, and whatever’s going on there is gonna be (had better be) crazy.

Isa my darling! Happy Birthday, albeit a couple of days early.
Seeing you screech in Philza's streams because Apollo hit you with that dodgeball yet again makes me giggle a lot.
How about since headcanon's for qPhilza's past/pre island relationship with qFit. How they got to know each other, and how quickly they became friends?
Idr if I said this on Tumblr yet but deadass I asked Apollo on my pendulum if qPhil is his blorbo and he said yes. He's been as invested in shit as me and it's been hilarious. I literally have crows yelling at me irl to keep writing rn but I'm answering headcanons first.
The entire time I've been distracted between writing these, crows have been yelling at me about it. Which. Is how Apollo communicates with me when I'm not actively talking to him through readings LMFAO.
Also thank you for the birthday wish :D [desperately hoping nothing else horrible happens this weekend please god]
Anyway qPhil headcanons masterlist let's go
Disclaimer that I didn't know of Fit before QSMP (I've only been in mcyt for 4 years monkaS) so these are gonna be largely pulled out of my ass and a lil repetitive.
These two both have experiences in anarchy and war, they've definitely brushed shoulders a couple times bc of it
They admired each other's work ofc. Phil is a macro scale kinda guy, total annihilation and victory that makes a statement. Fit's more of a micro scale kinda guy, zeroing in on one person or group individually and making their lives hell until the end in the name of surviving a little longer
On that note, I think we all sleep a little bit on the fact that Fit is Also a survivalist like Phil, just in a very different set of high stakes conditions. These two are equally skilled in it and equally sharp strategists
On that note, anyone who knew them from the past would fear the idea of them coming together to create a plan of any kind, especially of the anarchist-fueled variety. If the Federation has done their research right, they should know full well how terrifying this duo could be in an effort to dismantle their authority
Btw by brushing shoulders I don't just mean brief passings by, I mean they've like. Camped out for a night together, temporarily truced for the sake of safety in numbers, etc. More than a few conversations have been had even if the time they've spent together totals to less than a week.
However, even when they weren't actively paired together, they'd still occasionally trade or gift each other surplus resources. It was a genuine kind act, even if it simultaneously served as a reason for each of them to not come after the other. I scratch your back, you scratch mine.
Like why do you think Fit was one of the first threats on Phil's mind in Purgatory. He Knew(tm). And he knew Fit has an affinity for picking off the weak first, like a lion after a herd of antelope. To him, Purgatory was the awakening of a monster who'd been dormant for a long time.
See, present day they're QPR as fuck, they'd never do this now without 10x the pressure Purgatory put on them, but back in the day they took close notes on each other's strengths and weaknesses. Just In Case, yknow? They could very much kill each other. Back in the day they would've if it came to it, no matter how good an ally they were.
Something about how these two used to be so cold and hard to the world. Be it to self-preserve or some other reason. Something about how now they've both softened and warmed after becoming parents. They never could've imagined the other would "weaken" like this, especially back then.
Phil 🤝🏻 Fit - Phil being a historian of the deities/builds of his Hardcore World, Fit being a historian of 2B2T
A lot of this boils down to mutual respect, common interests, and secret admiration tbh. And what's more homoerotic than that?

Finally read "from a certain point of view: the empire strikes back" and I can't get over the fact that canonically, palpatine discovered who Luke was because Vader was so excited that he was going to see his precious boy son on hoth, he forgot to shield his mind and palps got a good eyeful of vaders daydreams about ruling the galaxy with his son
Wait it's WHAT I haven't read that collection yet
Seriously???
I love that so much 😂

What do you think would’ve happened if, pre-Bespin, Palpatine just up and died? besides Much Celebration.
Depends on if this happens before or after Vader knows about Luke, but either way: civil war within the Empire. We know from ANH that there are plenty of military leaders who dislike and refuse to respect Vader (understandable, when your job security is based on understanding the machinations of the Empire, and Vader doesn't machinate, he murders). And while I love an AU where Vader becomes Emperor as much as anyone else, I think seriously that there must be plenty of people more politically minded who see Vader as a relic, one that would be especially outdated once Palpatine died. They wouldn't want to support him as Emperor - if you consider the comics canon, then the entire plot line with Vader and Shu-Torun shows that he's more interested in force (ha) than pandering. And that works when you have the might of a unified empire to bring down on one dissenting and small (if wealthy) planet. But not when that empire is fracturing underneath the weight of your own reputation. Because ultimately, the Empire came about as a promise to many politicians and people feeling dissatisfied with the Republic, and Vader isn't savvy enough to even make similar promises, let alone so much as look like he's delivering on them.
So I think that if Vader knew about Luke, he'd immediately seize power and funnel all his resources into finding him now that he doesn't have to fear his master finding out. But the resources would run dry quickly, as plenty of loyal Imperials split and probably support another candidate, who serves their interests and Palpatine's promised legacy more. Less so if Palpatine had declared Vader his heir unambiguously, but that's a big if, and I can see him not doing that just to throw the place into chaos. Plus, look at the Anarchy: England was thrown into war because a bunch of people swore to recognise Matilda as Henry I's heir then just upped and went back on their word, so even if Vader was declared his heir, the planetary leaders and other influential figures might not accept it.
So half the court are clamouring to claim that they are Palpatine's spiritual successor, not his brute of a guard dog, and factions rise quickly. Vader does not have the political acumen to deal with this at all, and if he's hunting Luke, he doesn't care much until it impedes his hunt. If he catches him, that's even worse, because no one will willingly accept this random Rebel barely in his 20s as royalty and that just increases opposition. If Vader doesn't know about Luke, then he is more focused on the fact his empire is falling apart at the seams, and probably murdering anyone who dissents, but that's gonna make the situation worse.
Meanwhile, the Rebels don't really care about who's in charge of the Empire; the fact there is an empire is the issue. Vader was the one hunting them anyway, so I imagine Palpatine was just a distant symbolic figure. They're celebrating his death, but the fight's not done; the system he crafted is still very much in place, and his ideas are still running rampant. The chaos and coups probably give them many more footholds than they would otherwise have, but depending on how competent Vader's opposition are, there's no guarantee they can thrive.
So, overall, I think it would be a mess. Whether that mess is deadlier than the ruthlessly ordered murder machine that was Palpatine's Empire depends on how incompetent at politics Vader is, and how canny his opponents are. But when you've had one man in charge of the galaxy for 32 years, through wars and regime shifts and rebellions, his death is always gonna be tumultuous. And the problems in the set up of the galaxy didn't begin and end with him: he used prejudices and issues that already existed, twisted them to serve his purposes, and that discourse will last long after its enabler is gone.

Do you have any Luke & vader fic recs? I’ve been reading a lot of your fics and wondered if you know of any that have similar characterization?
I'm not sure if you mean Luke or Vader (or both) in terms of characterisation here, and one is hard enough - I'm a big believer in different interpretations and changing characterisation to fit the story XD I consider the Luke in each of my fics to be more or less unique or a different character, even if they broadly share similarities. Same with Vader, only worse, because if there's anything that man is not, it's rational or predictable.
That said, the things I always like reading in a Luke characterisation is him being competent (either at what he's doing, or being a smart cookie in general - I think it's overlooked how smart he is in canon, in a lot of fics). Even if he's in a pitiable or naïve state, he's an active and competent guy trying his best, which is how I'd broadly describe myself writing him. For Vader, I don't want to lose sight of the fact that He Is A Bad Person (I find Vaders who are nice or have a particularly strict moral code outside of "doesn't give a shit" fairly unrealistic) but also that in certain AUs he will be soft for his son. And in all AUs he tries to be a better person for his son.
I'm not going on about this for the sake of saying "I'm right" or anything - not at all. But the fic recs below all have some measure of these features involved which I really enjoyed :D
The works by Noodle_Soup (@coralnoodle) fit this well, I think, especially
Works by couronnedesfleurs, especially Black Swan and One Hope Then Another.
Works by Libby_25cSoda (@25centsoda), especially some of her oneshots.
The Forgotten Outpost by @ladyvader23 (and other fics by her)
I'm only a short way into Blood and Copper Oxide, but I'm thoroughly enjoying it so far and it seems to fit.
Sympathy for the Devil by Just_A_Loth_Cat
Several works of SilverDaye's (@silvereddaye), including Vader, Lord of Fashion and Runaway
Hostage and other works by Slx99 (@slx99)
The New Sith Order by chi-chi-chimaera (@chi-chi-chimera)
A Son of a Handmaiden by OffbrandLightsaber
Black Squadron by Azalea_Scroggs (@azalea-scroggs-archive)
Sublimity by DotColorful (@dotcolorful)
Exit Strategy and other fics by starr234 (@starr234)
The Devil's Devotion and other fics by prayforpiett (@prayforpiett)
Those are what I can think of for now! If anyone else wants to add some with similar characterisation, be my guest.

AU years after Return of the Jedi. Dark Vader lives but didn't often see his children, even if more Luke than Leia. Then Luke invites him to his marriage... with Mara Jade. Vader's POV if possible. guepard54
“Now, I know it doesn’t exactly look…” Luke trailed off.
Mara snorted. “Hospitable?”
“No—well, yes—but I meant…” He peered out the viewport again, trusting his hands to guide them in for a moment. “Jedi-like.”
“Actually, I’m pretty sure the old Jedi Temple had lava pits underneath it. The Imperial Palace got smelly sometimes because of them.”
“Did it? If we—” He shook himself when she laughed out loud. “Don’t mess with me like that! I don’t know anything.”
“And don’t trust my word,” she teased. Then added, a little more soberly, “Because I don’t know anything either.”
“You must know who my father is though.”
“Of course I do. He might even know me.”
“Hopefully, if I’m gonna win this bet with Leia. But in a good way or a bad way?”
“In a way.”
“Very helpful.”
“I thrive on it.”
“I’m well-aware of that.”
When they landed, there was a figure already waiting for them on the landing pad. Luke threw Mara a smile, who looked… slightly fazed, perhaps, but otherwise unconcerned. He powered down all the other ship functions, grabbed his robe to sling over his shoulder, and stepped outside.
“Father!” he said. “How are you? I haven’t seen you since—”
Lava flared behind him, reflecting eerie and bright in the contours of Vader’s mask. It tilted down towards Luke as Vader crossed his arms over his chest.
“Who have you brought.” It was not a question. The Force felt strange, like both Mara and Vader were trying very hard not to look at each other.
“I told you I was bringing a friend.”
“You did not tell me that friend was Force-sensitive.”
“No, but most of my friends I make through the Academy nowadays, you understand—”
“Nor an Imperial.”
“Ex-Imperial,” Mara corrected, finally stepping out of the ship. Luke didn’t know what had taken her so long, but she seemed to be revelling in the gravitas and drama of her entrance. Her red hair was pinned up and around her head in her usual practical style, with a few strands hanging loose that Luke felt his gaze catching on. The orange light caught on them too, making them glow, and Luke didn’t realise he was staring again until Mara jolted him out of it. In the ribs. With her elbow.
“Ex?” Vader asked, his tone rising. He was looking at Luke. Luke didn’t know why until Mara slipped her hand into his and he leaned against her shoulder. “The last I heard of you, Mara Jade, you had orders to kill my son.”
“It’s a romantic start to things,” Mara said.
“So you doknow who she is,” Luke concluded. “Leia owes me five credits. She didn’t think you’d have paid attention to the Emperor’s Hands.”
Vader stiffened, glaring now. His worst suspicion had come true, it seemed. “I beg to differ,” he spat back at Mara, ignoring Luke.
Luke snorted. “And mistaking someone for an angel is any better?”
There was the infamous finger point, wagging right in his face. “I regret telling you that story. Or any stories. What is the meaning of,” he waved his hand at Mara like she was a strange art choice, “this?”
“Her,” Mara cut in.

My #1 post of 2022
Considering vaders obsession with Luke, I'm surprised that the rebellion didn't attempt a plan to trap Vader using Luke as bait (I mean it would probably end up with at least 99% of all rebels there dying, but it's worth a shot)
When the bombs went off, Luke felt it. Through his shaky grasp on the Force, yes, but mainly because the bunker the Rebels had stashed him in wasn’t enough to block the bone-deep vibrations that shuddered across the entire surface of the moon.
Han and Chewie, sitting opposite him, looked up when they felt it too. “There we go,” Han said, satisfied. “Ain’t no one surviving that.”
“I think no one did,” Luke said softly. The stench of death was thick around them. He’d been familiar with that metaphysical stench long before Ben had told him he had the Force; he’d always assumed it was something primal in him that knew about it. Smells, sounds and silences, patterns he was no longer able to consciously spot, but his instincts would never miss.
Chewie seemed to feel what he did as well—and he likely did know it from practical instinct, rather than some energy field. He mewled mournfully.
Han shook his head and gave a nervous smile. “C’mon, you two, lighten up!” he said. “Vader’s dead. That was what this was for!”
“I’ll be glad if it worked,” Luke agreed, “but how many of our people died taking him out? Those bombs must have been cataclysmic.”
“They knew the risks, kid.” Han’s tone softened. “They knew what they were signing up for. The fact that Vader came here for you? Doesn’t make it your fault. Right, Chewie?” Chewie roared his agreement.
Luke grimaced. “How can we know he’s actually dead, though? He’s survived everything before! Can we contact Leia—”
“We don’t have comms, remember? No signal tracing us to here, nothing to tell Vader you’re here instead of at the ambush site. We gotta wait for Leia to come and get us.”
“And if Leia—” He broke himself off.
Han looked jittery now, too. “Leia’s fine, alright? Everything is fine. If you don’t stop worrying like that you’re gonna make me sick and scared…”
“Sorry.” Luke tried for a watery smile, but it dropped immediately. Nothing about this situation, from the moment Madine had hatched this plan and muscled him into going along with it, warranted a smile. “What do you think Vader wants me alive for anyway, Han? That was a lot of money in the bounty.”
“Hate to admit it, but General Syndulla’s idea makes a lot of sense.” Han grimaced and waggled his fingers. “That energy field stuff?”
Luke swallowed. Hera had been the Rebellion general most opposed to this plan—she’d tried so hard to get him out of it. Every time she was on base, she was a rock to him, even though he knew memories of her Jedi were painful. “You think he wants an Inquisitor, like she said the Empire went after Ezra Bridger? Or an apprentice, like Maul?”
Despite himself, Han chuckled. “Maul,” he repeated. “Whoever named that guy—”
“Han.”
“I think it’s not impossible! If he believes in this poodoo like you do I’m sure he sees the benefits of having a magical guy like you at his disposal, working for him.”
“I’ll never join him,” Luke swore. Chewie voiced his solidarity. “He’s killed so many people! Biggs, my aunt and uncle, my father—”
“Well, you won’t need to!” Han kicked up his feet onto Luke’s bench and leaned back against his own, the permacrete wall of the bunker not looking comfortable to lounge against. But Han could lounge against anything. “Because he’s dead.”
“I don’t—”
“Don’t jinx it, kid! Didn’t you feel that explosion? There’s no way he survived that. Leia’s gonna come down here any minute, key in the code to get in, and—” He broke off as there was a grinding sound. “There. There’s her coming through the first door. Get ready to open the second one for her.”
“We have to wait for her to key in the all-clear code, first,” Luke said.
“All-clear? Why wouldn’t it be all-clear? She—” But Han cut himself off when the chimes rang out, and Luke ran to check the numbers on the monitor. “That’s… not the all-clear code.”
“I told you!” Luke was shaking slightly as he glanced it over and referenced the codes they’d established for this mission. “That’s Leia, alright, but she’s compromised. Something’s wrong.”
“What does that mean?”
“I think…” Something dark swept over him, and he shivered. He looked towards the door and felt an eye the colour of acid searing through the three solid feet of durasteel that separated them. “I think Vader has her. Came here with her.”
“What?” Han leapt up, his hand on his blaster. “We need to—”
“I’m going to open the door.”
“Yes, but—” Chewie groaned and Han nodded. “You said it, buddy. We need to save her, but how’re we gonna take on Vader? Should we?”

I'm bored part 2
To elaborate on my theory, I released this post after a bit of confusion (maybe I shouldn't have created a puzzle game on that last one after all lol.) If you haven't seen part one, you should be able to find it on my profile.
*SPOILERS*
*NO SERIOUSLY*
Fine. Have it.
Basically, the blanks in part one reads: Blacklight is alive.
Now, before you go "what the heck you idiot we all read the part when Blacklight died -" I have a few things to point out.
First of all, as we all know, Evander Wade was described by Adrian as "suave and quick with a joke." He was the favorite of many Renegades fans (including Adrian, as we all know.) However, as you all know "suave" characters, 50% of them hide another persona. And that's where Nova's perspective comes in. She notes on multiple occasions how he is willing to sacrifice some things for others (*cough cough* Anarchists and Agent N,) loves the idea of Agent N altogether, is also shown to be cruel and cunning at some points (like when he was at Winston's neutralization and Tamaya whispered something to him - I think - and he gave that uLtImAtE vIlLiAn sMiLe,) and didn't hesitate for one second to agree to the idea of executing a gaslighted, helpless SIXTEEN YEAR OLD who is literally his friend's son's girlfriend.
Now at this point we all know he could be very capable and unhesitant to create some behind-the-scenes plans. But, to elaborate on why he could be alive, think about this: if he is so capable, if he is so cunning, then why didn't he use his powers wisely when Ace Anarchy escaped?
But if my theory is correct... then he did use them wisely.
Light can create illusions (so sorry Simon, you're not the only one who can go invisible :P) and knowing Blacklight by now, he does have some opinions and intentions that are definitely not approved by others (like executing someone's girlfriend.)
Therefore, I find it highly unrealistic that he literally died to two HANDCUFFS (or chains or whatever it was.) A couple sentences/paragraphs before his "death," he was shown to be hurling a light strobe at Ace - which I also find unrealistic (like bro you have SO much potential in your powers and THAT'S ALL YOU CAN DO?!)
ALSO, even if the Renegades are a bit of a slacking failure, I suspect that they at least considered that something could go haywire during the execution - which leads me to think that Blacklight tried to use this as an advantage somehow. Even if he was shown to love public attention and have fifty girls swarming around him everywhere he went, I suppose everyone gets tired of paparazzi some time in their life.
(But obviously he wouldn't fake his death for that purpose lol)
If you look at my argument in paragraph one, at this rate you know he wouldn't mind faking his death for a "more desirable" purpose - one that probably not EVERYONE would approve of, anyway.
Also - another thing. There was no funeral scene in Supernova, meaning *stuff* could have very well occurred behind the scenes. But anyway, we know for sure that if he did actually fake his death (hence this entire essay) the Council definitely didn't know (and would totally kill him if they found out he was alive.)
*insert scene of Tsunami getting crushed by a platform*
Anyway, I think Blacklight is alive.
Deal with it.
@fair-crimson, out.
P.S. I'm gonna develop on his family in my fanfic later on -

Article about Miss America (later Chocolate USA), The Tampa Tribune, Nov 23, 1990
transcript:
These kids are alright
Koster unfurls Miss America
By Steven Perez
The 30 or so people gathered at USF's Empty Keg on election night learned of Lawton Chiles’ gubernatorial victory the weird way.
A slight, unassuming 18-year-old with a thin ponytail and thrift store clothes made them rise and place their hands over their hearts as he sang 2 Live Crew's “Me So Horny” to the national anthem.
Then he led his band into a musical fun house of schlock culture and vaudevillian teen anarchy. Painfully quirky at points and poignant at others, it was a typical show for Julian Koster and Miss America. And no one walked out in confusion.
“That was more of a factor when I was playing solo,” said Koster, who also works at Pizza Hut and studies English at St. Petersburg Junior College.
“I'd be playing at places where the first band would have to remove these huge double-bass drum sets from the stage. Then I'd get up there — one person with a guitar and do these three-note weird-out guitar lines to pre-taped stuff. Then I'd throw a lizard mask on. They'd just be, ya know (insert glazed look here).”
Since summer Koster has slowly folded musicians into his gooey musical batter. Now Miss America features a solid foundation of guitar, bass, drums and violin.
Koster may be a sort of goofball messiah to the segment of Tampa's rock scene that’s grown weary of standard fare. Being a well-read, only child of culturally active New York City parents makes it almost a birthright. Having a self-described “absolute compulsion” to be public spectacle makes it a reality.
Either way, there are few other local acts that care to occasionally smash equipment, cut each other's hair, employ TVs and electric sanders, worship Muhammad Ali or allow toddlers to sit in on toy drum sets, If not always brilliant, the scattershot result is at least refreshing, drawing as
much from comedy improvisation as from Camper Van Beethoven or David Byrne.
“I'm consistently amazed because it seems like the audience actually likes us,” said Keith Block, 25, the drummer who plays hubcaps and oven racks.
Block also said Miss America has created a following of dependable fans who know just when to get rowdy if the band’ off-center approach isn’t going over well.
It can be difficult to muster a firm reaction to some of Koster’s compositions. The band, which also includes bassist Roxxy Dylwn, 19, and violinist Liza Wakeman, 16, reconciles a smattering of images and sounds into short spontaneous combustions. It usually works.
Why else would the song “Connie Chung” erode into Koster posing as the newscaster, reciting panting, sex-crazed dialogue. Why else would a beauty queen say she'd be better off dead. Why else
would the president of the United States turn his “State of the Universe Address” into a goopy, autoerotic display of mass media exhibitionism.
“I've always been interested in things that hit me in more than one level,” said Koster. “Things that have both a musical aspect and a theatrical aspect make you do more work. They're more like a real
person — not always funny, not always sad, doesn’t always dance. The songs and music are all of us trying to show every aspect of our personalities.”
One example is “Smile,” an instrumental which features a tape of Koster calling strangers to ask if they are lonely. Other pieces are noisy, alter egos which create walls of blissfully mindless guitar.
All together these kids don’t want much — just to finish their debut tape “All Jets Are Gonna Fall Today,” start a telephone hot line, and maybe become bigger than New Kids on the Block — eventually starring in a comic book and providing voices for their own cartoon series.
“Our other goal is to be like Josie and the Pussy Cats and go places and tame people with our music,” said Koster. “We could practice a lot and write a letter to Bush and have him drop us in the Middle East and send all the kids home. We'll play for Saddam. We'll do two or three
sets, I'll put on the lizard mask. ...”
Steven Perez is a Tampa Bay Times staff writer.
