“I have been considering, Rosehearts, ever since you spoke in such glowing terms of your club, that I should like to pay the stables a visit in order to observe its activities on whatever day might be most convenient for you.” 

Their previous talk concerning the dynamics within the club’s members and the pride with which Rosehearts had spoken regarding each of them had piqued his interest. Enough so that he had grown quite curious to see the lot of them in action. “As you yourself and both Silver and Sebek are among their number, I would be quite interested in spending an afternoon observing if it would be agreeable to you.”

“I would of course make certain to remain a fair distance away in order not to frighten your horses.”

“R-Really…?” 

When Malleus-senpai had come up to him in the hall, Riddle had nearly dropped the textbooks he’d been holding in favor of gawking like a fool over the idea of him wanting to visit during club hours; to see Riddle’s pride and joy for himself. But, soon enough awe melted into flailing about as his face reddened and he struggled to collect himself.

“I-I apologize, staring in such a way, how rude of me, I merely never thought you’d have been interested in such things, I—“

Finally, he cut himself off, cleared his throat, and tried to calm his frayed nerves. A deep breath: in, out, and he’d done it…though his heart was still beating quite quickly in his chest. Relax, a voice echoed through his mind, pitch more feminine than his own, and somehow more stern as well: do not make yourself look so childish, so pathetic. 

“—I have been closed-minded, it seems. Forgive me.”

With a small smile, he readjusted the hold he had on his things. Now that he was over the initial shock, the prospect of having an accompaniment to his club was…exciting, if not slightly nerve-wracking.

“You’re perfectly welcome any time. You must know, my domain is yours. I was heading to the stables just now, actually, if you should like to accompany us today? It is short notice, though I suspect giving Sebek more time to be nervous would be counterproductive.” And, of course, that went for Riddle himself as well. Better to simply jump into it rather than giving himself time to get too worked up in anticipation of it. 

“They’ll both be pleased to see you, of course, Sebek and Silver. Though I believe the three of us are alike in that we place pressure on ourselves in our own ways. Still. They want to be your knights, yes? This will be a good chance for them to take pride in what they’ve learned when it comes to utilizing horseback riding.”

As they began walking, Riddle remained aware of the other’s longer legs, and attempted to match step with him. He blinked, surprised, as he spoke of distancing himself…then, a laugh. Neither forced nor underlined with disbelief or something bitter, but genuine and sweet. Amused, even.

“My! Don’t say such things, of course you must say hello! At least to my Vorpal, he’s quite finicky, but he chooses personalities he likes quite well. I should think he’d approve of you—he’s used to my overbearingness, after all. I would encourage you to attempt at approaching. It should go well.”

this is one of the most beautiful panels of the ball boy arc AND the whole manga, it deeply shows hinata's hunger and desire to keep running to grow stronger despite the difficulties, despite the fact of feeling chained to the ground sometimes.

the angsty snowflakes falling around him create a beautiful but anxious atmosphere in which shoyo cycles faster, thinking about the mist mountain he still has to climb. and he doesn't fear it at all 🧡
