Episode 10 rant
Billy and Camila staying together in the book made sense. The running theme in their relationship was that Camila trusted him, trusted that he was a good person, even when Billy couldn’t see it. Daisy was the temptation both physically (falling in love and drinking) and symbolically as the person Billy is trying not to be. Camila trusts that he’s going to do the right thing and ultimately he does. When Camila tells Billy to call Daisy, it’s still based on that trust. She trusts that he’s going to keep being that good person even after she’s gone.
The show completely fucked that over and it’s not satisfying in any way for them to stay together. Not only do Daisy and Billy have a much more explicitly romantic relationship in the show, we are shown constantly that Camila doesn’t really trust him. On top of that, their screen time as a couple is microscopic and we never really get a feel for why they’re fighting for this relationship so hard. And having her die accomplishes nothing narratively other than giving Billy the chance to get together with Daisy. It’s very much giving “dad in an unhappy marriage that only stayed for the kid. But now the kid is grown, the wife is gone, and he can move on to the woman he actually loves.”
Idk I really liked a lot of the changes they made. I actually didn’t mind that the show made their relationships more complicated, I liked that Camila had more to do than blindly trust Billy, and I understand why they gave DaisyBilly’s relationship more screen time. But they should’ve changed the ending. They should’ve just let them get divorced.

On the topic of How Do You Handle XYZ Comment, I've always wondered how you handle terrible responses on your toh takes. Like I know the toh fandom doesn't lack piss on the poor reading comprehension and they also really enjoy wildly out of touch takes, but I've never seen any comments on your princess luz stuff of that nature. I'm sure they must be there but maybe I'm too early? But anyway, how do you tend to deal with the "acktually shipping luz and Hunter is incest" and the "ur not a real lesbian because putting amity in a poly ship is lesbian erasure" and the "as a white person kinda sus you make the poc woman an empress" kind of responses? Ones that are technically not hate and maybe if you squint could be from people who aren't inherently trying to do bad but just lack the maturity needed to engage with the internet at large?
this ask made me giggle. honestly, i haven't received as much pushback as you might expect! way less pushback than i expected. in the princess AU, i've gotten a LOT more "this is actually too grotesque for me to stomach" comments than "this is problematic" comments, which is fine. horror-thriller isn't for everyone, those comments do not upset me.
i have had a Few run-ins with bad faith people, whom i mostly block. there's one prolific commenter in toh tumblr fandom who would repeatedly write angry essays on my humor meta posts -- essays that were all about how belos is too evil to be sympathetic and/or about how hunter is a soft gentle boy who shouldn't be jokingly referred to as evil. then they'd go "i can't help my active and conscious decision to type a bunch of rude fucking words and then my active and conscious decision to send those rude fucking words because i'm autistic :(((" around the fourth or fifth time this happened, i was fucking done with that nonsense and finally blocked them. shoulda done it after the first comment tbh!! no more autism exceptions.
as for the rest of it, my main management strategy is to simply.... preempt the bad faith comments?
i had a LOT more unpleasant and conflict-filled fandom experiences when i was in the raven cycle fandom. that was my first exposure to "you can't ship multi-gender polycules if anyone involved is gay" and "queerplatonic het relationships are just heteronormativity shipping that you're trying to get away with." having dealt with those takes before, i've found a few different ways to disarm bad faith readers before they get started.
first is to be super open and honest about my interests. i talk about what i find compelling in different relationships All The Damn Time. it's really hard for anyone to accuse me of only wanting hunter to fuck amity if they've seen, like.... anything i've said about hunter and amity.
same with hunter and luz. the only negative reactions i've really gotten to how they're written in the princess AU is like.... two people being squicked by camila thinking they're romantically involved. i REALLY expected more pushback on the touchyfeely bed sharing stuff, but from what i remember, there's never been Any....? not even from people who consider them siblings.
i expected a lot of pushback on how mean hunter and amity are to each other, since it's taken So much farther than the canon. but it turns out that there's a very large overlap between people who like dark horror AUs and people who like hunter and amity murdering each other. (in a fluffy fic i don't think this characterization would fly Nearly as easily.)
i find that being funny really disarms people, too. when you look at any of my toh meta posts that could be controversial, they're basically all funny. people are a lot more willing to listen to what you have to say if you make them laugh, and it's harder for them to get angry at you.
and then the last thing is that i think i'm in sort of a privileged position in toh fandom. i've written a lot of controversial subjects and relationships and characterizations.... but i've also written some WILDLY popular mainstream fic. and people who like the mainstream fic don't really want to beef with me about differing niche opinions, bc there's a level of respect there. which they might not have for a writer they don't like.
but anyway. when things Do happen, i almost always just block and move on. there are so many people here who get what i'm talking about that there's no need for me to try to convert people who don't, you know??

FOR THE FUTURE!!!
Luz just wanted to be understood… SHE WANTED TO BE UNDERSTOOD!!!!!!! That’s all she wanted and it’s so SIMPLE, it’s not about a specific life goal or agenda, just something you genuinely want! Everything she did, the antics, her weirdness, was just an attempt to show herself so people could see and UNDERSTAND!
And Camila! The way she told Luz that life is about mess-ups. A-And she told Luz that she’s also messed up, and messed up when she didn’t stand up for Luz… And LUZ REALIZED!!! I CAN’T THIS WRITING AND ARC IS TOO DAMN GOOD!!!
Willow my babey girl this was lowkey YOUR episode too, I’d honestly tag her as the deuteragonist of For the Future! The way she tries and carries so much, has an enormous burden on what she can do, about showing weakness, about denial! THE CALLBACKS TO BOSCHA! THE PARALLELS! The way they ended off! Willow’s biggest threat being herself, this was a WILLOW episode! And how she’s allowed to show weakness because yes, her dream of wanting to protect others, and needing to be flawed, are not mutually exclusive!
And like damn. This episode was about, for Luz and Willow, coming to terms with their flaws. Their mistakes. Their imperfections. And ultimately idealizing and accepting those parts of themselves!
And Hunter can now teleport… Does he have all magic or just his teleportation? Or does he have other magic and only uses teleportation lol? The way he’s so deadset on trying to get back at Belos…
IT WAS CONFIRMED THE CLAWTHORNE ARCHWAY AND GRAVESFIELD ONE ARE CONNECTED!!! And Belos… BELOS…
He’s SO twisted, literally melting and falling apart and OH GOD NOT RAINE WHYYYY!!!! The fact that the crew actually played around with Belos trying to possess a grimwalker, only for it to not be ready… Dear god, that poor kid that could’ve been! Could’ve been a twin brother for Hunter to bond with… AND CALEB AND THE GRIMWALKER GHOSTS!!! The one Golden Guard with BIG poofy hair!
AND KING!!! AND EDA AND LILITH!!! He saved them, he managed to make it work, he’s so clever! And his character development, the recognition that he and the Collector are the same. The Collector afraid of being judged for what his people did, but King doesn’t! But…
WHO WAS THE WINGED PERSON IN THE VOID?!?! The Collector’s dad?! The voice we heard when Luz last visited?
And Belos… GOD, it’s twisted seeing Belos still managing to manipulate, KNOW this kid, recoup and turn his thoughts against himself! I was afraid it’d happen and it did! Say what you will but this man may fail but he TRIES and he’s competent, terrifyingly so! Also dammit was imagining he’d possess Odalia… Imagine Amity just nuking two enemies in one blow! Willow and Amity’s friendship too…
AND BOSCHA BOSCHA BOSCHA!!! BOSCHA ARC!!! It’s everything I’ve read and wanted, her being so desperate to be back with Amity again, needing people, so obsessed with not showing weakness and being at the top and having control! And in the end, Amity confronts that past version of herself, and also the joke about her wanting a student council but being ‘obsessed’! I loved seeing all these kids and it’s neat that Mary’s name was mentioned in the subtitles! The way they acknowledged the Eyeball girl’s past with Gus too, MWAH! And how he knew about Hunter being a Grimwalker, but wanted to give him space!
And Hunter AND Luz recognizing the nerdery of Camila, and geeking out over it! Luz realizing her mom DOES understand…
EDA PLAYING WITH RAINE BECAUSE SHE LIKES TO SEE THEM! God she’s so cheeky, Raine leaves her hanging at the Coven Day Parade but that doesn’t stop Eda from pestering them over Penstagram. She’s so great y’all.
And the Collector, god I saw it coming. The fact that they’d misunderstand and realize King DID lie to them, and wants to go against them! King realizing they don’t deserve it, the fact they were so CERTAIN and trusting! And they keep being lied to and manipulated, this poor kid… God, and the setup for Belos to possess him! To take his power in a vulnerable moment and kill all witches with it!
Belos also canonically is haunted by visions of the past… That knife had BLOOD, y’all!
Willow worrying about her parents, and Odalia… That was surprisingly brief, but I feel that’s gonna come back to play next episode! And Kikimora and ‘Roka’, which is what I’ll call it now lol. So desperate for power she’s lording over literal children and able to hide herself as one, that’s hilarious. And the Mat Tholomule twist… But also ambiguity. And also Matt is canonically into robots.
AND THE TWINS REUNITING!!! Edric in a full-body cast was hilarious. Also I saw Amelia and Cat and that was very deliberate as part of Boscha’s arc, I’m so happy!!!
This was… what an AMAZING episode, it felt LONG but right! I love the focus on resolving and bringing back characters! Love Kikimora was remembered and the end credits of Boscha being lonely… She’s so messed up I love her!!! What happened to Kikimora’s dragon Princess, anyhow? At this point I’m genuinely starting to think Terra killed her as punishment for attempted defection. And RIP Terra… lol.
STILL NO EDA KING LUZ REUNION!!! But we’re getting there, we are!!! Soon…
Damn. Only one episode left. The LAST episode. I’m… I’m gonna miss this guys. But it’s been one hell of a ride and I don’t regret a second of it! Thanks, and see you for the finale…! Peace out!

THE OWL HOUSE IS MAKING A RETURN AND THAT MEANS I HAVE A TEASER TO ANALYSE!!
Starting with the first thing I noticed is the trees, yes the trees. We can assume that based on them that we’re leaving summer now and entering that September-October territory, perfect for the spooky season!
The next glaringly obvious thing to me was this little guy in the background, meaning good old monster Philip is going to be terrorising earth, as expected. I’m sure that with this being realised in October The Owl House is possibly going to lean more into its horror aspects, which is a possibility I’m excited for.
Tumblr media
And based on the poster, it seems it’ll be leaning more into the mystery aspect as well as we see the gang investigating a graveyard.
Tumblr media
Unfortunately no names are visible here, however, unlike Ghost who is in staff form, Flapjack is perched on one of the graves.
Tumblr media
Willow also appears to be looking directly at him as he looks to the side (Gus also appears to be looking off to the side but based on the vibes of the poster and how everyone is looking around, it appears to be due to wariness and being watched). It’s safe to assume the gang are potentially investigating the Wittebane brothers.
Tumblr media
Something I also love is that, while all the characters have new looks that I absolutely adore (GUS IN A BEANIE!!) Hunter has new hair?? This honestly could be symbolising him finding his own identity away from Philip and away from Caleb, but despite this he’s still positioned closest to Philip in the poster, and looking up fearfully… poor kid.
Tumblr media
We do also have to respect the fact Luz keeps the eyebrow scar, representative of that loss of innocence, and she’s certainly a far cry from the carefree kid she was. In this poster she seems as wary as everyone else, and almost cold? She’s clearly on edge and looking behind her with distrust. I cant blame her with Philip’s eyes watching them all in the background like that.
Tumblr media
And while I don’t have as much to analyse here, I love all their new looks AND SLAY CAMILA. SLAY. GET PHILIP’S ASS.
(Also Amity’s hair was pointed out to me confirming there has been a one to two month timeskip so we ARE possibly in October territory now.)
Overall, I’m SUPER excited for the three specials, and as unfortunate as it is we won’t be getting a full season, I’m curious to see what the crew has in store and how their creativity has shined!! The series looks to be getting even darker so it’s possible that because of the circumstances, they may have been able to get away with a lot more too.

The owl house spoilers: For the future (Don't like don't read. Post hate and I'll block you)
I'm a lunter shipper so I'm going to look through this episode with lunter goggles on.
Tumblr media
Jealous Hunter is everything.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They doing this shit on purpose cause they know how strong Lunter is.
Tumblr media
I know he deserves this shit, but I feel pity for him. Plus I want him at full power. He deserves to die at full power.
Tumblr media
All hail Queen Boscha. I feel so stupid but I didn't realize that was kikimora till luz realized it. God I'm such an idiot. I knew they were bad but I couldn't figure out why. I honestly forgot about Kimora and assumed she was dead.
Tumblr media
Grumpy boy! Damn he's hurting soooo bad.
Tumblr media
Lunter crumbs. Luz being the only one who can tell something is wrong. And how she right away is about to literally about to get up to go to him.
Tumblr media
NOW THIS IS AN AMITY SHIP I CAN GET BEHIND! BETTER THAN DUMB LUMITY. LIKE THEM TOGETHER WAY MORE!
Tumblr media
Awwww poor baby. Camila is best mama. The whole wanting to be understood is stupid. But over all I like their talk. Hate luz's palisman. Such a cop out but at least it's not a stupid bat. Also luz looks so pretty!!!!!
Tumblr media
Lunter crumbs! Lunter looking like a battle couple! New pic for my next lunter playlist.
Tumblr media
This pic had me crying no lie. This is the true family. Not the stupid Nocedas siblings bullshit. Just add Camila( maybe vee. She's not my favorite but I'll deal) and it will be complete.
Overall the episode is ok. Animation good. Wish their was less huntlow bullshit, less crap about canon ships. Love luz. Love hunter. Love Boscha. Love Boschamity. Willow's whole thing was stupid. Wish their was fucking backstory for Caleb and Evelyn. LOVE Philip! Love eda king, Lilith and Hooty. Love what the collector did. Beautiful. Wish the isles looked like that actually. Love Matt and Gus. Hate luz's palisman but it's better than a fucking bat. Found it hilarious and feel horrible vindication that Luz, Hunter and almost everyone else looks so much more beautiful and Amity looks more ugly animation wise. Love king and I just want to keep him safe and God damn it let Eda king and luz reunite already! Overall ok episode. Some of it was worth the hype the rest trash and kinda happy that the next episode is going to be a while.

So, Tuco has a brother in law named Gonzo, which means he has a sister, which means it’s possible that Tuco is a uncle. That’s so fucking cute!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here’s some HCs~
Camila and Gonzo are the healthiest and purest couple in the breaking bad universe. No abuse, no toxicity, just pure love and support. Gonzo is also the best husband ever.
Their dynamic is two sweet cinnamon rolls that deserve the world.
Tuco was not happy when he heard that Gonzo (his real name is Lorenzo) and his sister Camila were a thing. Camila had to stop him from killing Gonzo. He felt that Gonzo wasn’t good enough for his sister. He was just some nobody and she was a Salamanca, cartel royalty.
But when Tuco saw how they interacted and how much Camila loved Gonzo, he relented. But not without threatening poor Gonzo’s life a couple times.
Camila’s love for Gonzo blossomed because he was the only man she knew that was genuinely a good guy. Also, Camila has alway had a thing for thick boys.
Despite being a criminal, Gonzo doesn’t have a mean bone in his body. He’s a teddy bear who’d do anything for Camila. She calls him, “osito de peluche.”
Camila loves baking especially for her husband. She’s the reason why Gonzo fails every diet he tries to stick to.
Most of the Salamancas didn’t approve of the match so Camila and Gonzo got married in secret, in small church, with only Tuco and Nacho there.
This caused quite a lot of family drama. Hector was enraged that’d Camila would disobey him, he wanted to kill Gonzo to serve as a lesson but Tuco actually stood up against Hector for the first time in his life to protect his sister.
Tuco: You’re going to let them be happy or-
Hector: Or what?! You think you’re a big man now?! Huh?!
Tuco: If you don’t leave them alone then I’m out.
He threatens to leave the family business and Hector laughs in his face at first, but Tuco was being dead serious. He swore that he’d take Camila and leave the country. In the end, Hector relented.
Camila and Gonzo named their first son Hector to try smooth things over with him. Everyone accepted their marriage when they started having kids, even Hector. (Hector still treats Gonzo like a servant than a family member though.)
They have 4 bebés in total, 3 girls and one boy. Tuco loves his little nieces and nephews to death. He’s crazy fun loving uncle Tuco. Who spoils his nieces and nephews rotten. (If anyone ever found out that he plays dollhouse with his nieces, he’d have to kill himself.)
Camila doesn’t allow Tuco around them when he’s high or using, for obvious reasons. She even checks him before letting him in the house. She won’t hesitate to throw his ass out if he does come around high.
Lalo and the twins visit from Mexico occasionally and they get Christmas cards every year. Or Gonzo and Camila go up to Mexico to visit them.
Each one of the cousins is one of the children’s godfather.
Lalo loves to tease Gonzo. He calls him “Gordo.” Gonzo doesn’t mind the nickname, he just hates Lalo’s mind games. Lalo also doesn’t hesitate to exploit Gonzo’s love for Camila to get Gonzo to do something for him.
But Camila is very protective of her husband, especially around her family. If one of her cousins are giving him a hard time, she won’t hesitate to chew them out. Once Gonzo got really hurt while on a job with the twins and Camila screamed at them for ten minutes. Since she is their elder cousin, the two deadly assassins just sat there and took it.
The twins creep Gonzo out but they do treat him much like how they treated Nacho. They respect him for treating Camila like a princess and making her happy.
Honestly, poor Gonzo. Having to deal with the Salamancas every day and do their dirty work. But it all becomes worth it when he comes home every night to his amor Camila and their lil bebés.

"Bright light blinded Phoenix, and when he blinked it away, he saw puppeted forms of Darius, Jason, and Ghost pulling up and away from him."
No!!!!!!!!!!!! Ghost did get puppeted in the end! First the Gilded House gets destroyed, now Ghost is a puppet! The Darker Timeline is becoming reality!
Then again, maybe we should be grateful that Jason and Ghost are at least alive. They, uh, didn't really have much time to leave the house before it got exploded...
I wonder if the rest of the Gilded Family got away? (Oh Caleb.... guy probably thinks that he just watched at least two, if not three, of his kids frigging die again!)
Since we know that the puppets are at least semi-aware of what's going on around them (Camila crying when Luz's soul drifts past her and the Hexsquad to say goodbye, Amity drawing a light glyph to free herself-), being a puppet must be very confusing to Ghost. They can't move! But they aren't asleep either... Maybe it'll remind them of being in the ground?
Being puppetized doesn't seem physically harmful, but emotionally? Horrifying. At least adults and teenagers can rationalize and perhaps somewhat understand what's happening, but a literal toddler? Poor child, I hope for their sake that it does remind them of being in the earth and it's almost a comfort for them.
I think it's just sort of like being asleep to them: something bigger than them is picking them up and moving them while they can't really move much, and everything's a bit of a haze. Honestly, they probably associate it with a similar feeling to when Clara held their hands and kept them upright/balanced and taught them how to walk; maybe a little more restrictive, but a similar feeling of being held up and directed by someone bigger than them.
Plus, they're two, so if they remember any of this down the line, they'll probably dismiss it as a dream. And, yeah, they probably don't really understand what's going on, so while on the one hand, that could be even scarier, on the other hand, not really understanding what's going on is like. The default state for toddlers. They've only been alive a few days; they don't have a frame of reference to know it's scary. Their most close experience to this is, as said before, Clara teaching them to walk, so overall, it's whatever. Maybe unpleasant, or at least not as pleasant as learning to walk, and they're definitely upset that they got taken away from their Nee Nee and put somewhere else, but they'll be okay. It's definitely not FUN for them, though.

In lily's White guy video, Did she just imply that when a woman stalks someone it's okay when she apologizes and in fact should be immediately forgiven for the stalking?? And she calls the apology for literally stalking being as the character being "weird"??? And also what is it with her and seeing a Fandom hate on a character who happens to female and/or be from a marginalized group and immediately think it's racism/misogyny??? Like maybe the character is justly hated by the fandom for reasons outside their race or gender? That's like saying Dolores Umbridge is hated for simply being a woman. Or saying Zack White from Non Stop is hated by fans simply for being black. I'm not saying there aren't stupid people who purely hate characters for being nonwhite/female, but seriously, as a black girl, this logic is dumb as fuck and I honestly hate how it blocks character discussion because it just boils down to "you only hate this character because she's a black woman!" There are minority characters that are hated by Fandom for reasons other than race or gender, fuck off lily. (Again, not saying Fandom racism/misogyny isnt a problem, but the way Lily talks about it feels like she's weaponizing it in a way, like she's trying to present herself as a white savior. Is that just me?)
mmm. there is an argument to be made about how Umbridge is quite literally the embodiment of the demonization of feminity by an author who really needs to unpack her internalized misogyny, and how there can be a tendency in fandom to judge a character harder for faults that they'd otherwise forgive or find understandable in other characters. speaking in fandom specifically, i can't think a easier example that when Camila asked Luz to stay in the human real and people were talking about how Eda, a white woman, is a better mom for Luz. Eda had put Luz's life in danger countless times, but because this afrolatina woman asked Luz to stay with her, where she'd be safe and sound, suddenly it's the better option? or how people in the spiderverse fandom treat Hobbie Brown, a character that canonically was a runaway model in his backstory, as a ugly, stinky, unhygienic man, while they also infatlize Pavitr, an indian man? when the first spiderverse movie came out, i know there was an uproar because someone made a hc where they imagined that Miles, a kid that by all means is not poor, stole art supplies for himself. would that post being made at all if Miles was white? probably not. LO's not talking about any of that, though. besides keep repeating again and again about how her prefered black character (don't even bother with latin or asian characters, she doesn't care about those being sidelined or forgotten entirely) doesn't get the same amount of attention as whatever white guy there is in the moment, she can't describe or imagine any other examples of more insidious or even obvious fandom racism. because she doesn't find those discussions "interesting" enough.

Introducing Arman Douglas and Hosea Triggs!
Tumblr media
This takes place in the same world at Brett Transport Company and the siren in the engine room. (i haven't forgotten them yet!!)
As people from all across the globe pour into Recalia ailed by gold fever, Arman and Hosea are scouring the land for something more.
These... "'business' 'partners'" are an unlikely pair. Hosea Triggs is an intern for Camila Snow, the Goddess of Faith, looking to encourage miners and frontiersmen to take up a Purist way of life. Arman Douglas is an agent of chaos... literally. That's what they're called. An intern for Nellie Moon---Goddess of Chaos---it seems like he has no business being anywhere near Hosea, and vice versa. Honestly, gods know why they're even a pair.
While Arman technically possesses magical abilities that surpass most mortals', his real prowess lies in manipulating legal documents and poor miners gullible enough to trust him. The fact that he is both a certified lawyer and an intern for the Goddess of Chaos makes him the most untrustworthy person on the continent. Arman has been able to secure the souls of many a disgruntled adventurer for Nellie. While he may technically own their souls, their bodies are very much out of his control---and they frequently wield a variety of weapons and harbor a deep hatred for people who trick them into selling their souls. Arman spends most of his time hopping settlements.
Hosea Triggs currently owes his soul to Arman. While he is usually the most pious and disciplined person you could ever meet, all it took was one bad day, a local bar, and the unfortunate luck to be in the same town as Arman to lose the ownership of his soul. However, Hosea harbors no resentment towards Arman, despite being dragged around from town to town for his clerical healing abilities. He finds it useful for his work.

Luz, putting Hunter in a Link cosplay and setting him loose in a Home Depot: Ok just go apeshit on some pots what could go wrong.
This would be so therapeutic for him tbh but also oh no, yet another scenario where Hunter Is About To Get Involved With The Human Authorities
I think this is a case where Hunter acts as the impulse control (it's not his property + he doesn't want to put poor Mrs Noceda on the hook for paying for it after she has been so kind). He does want need and deserve to go apeshit tho so can I raise you: Luz gives Hunter and the others some foam weapons and unleashes them in the park to just beat the absolute dogshit out of each other In Costume. There's a tip jar. Recordings of it go viral.
...honestly also I'm thinking abt how Hunter deserves some "breaking shit" therapy and the whole "Hunter ruthlessly picking up odd jobs to bring in money so he isn't a drain on Camila" idea and coming up w "Hunter getting to chop firewood and finding it incredibly therapeutic to split logs w an axe."

Hot take because there is a big important thing that should be mentioned about Camila:
"You should never have hated her, and you suck if you did or still do," is a bad take, and invalidates her as a character. If you're wondering what I mean, please stick with me for this! It's important!
Yes, the bad-parent things she did were because of societal expectations and responses to her own feelings of fear and trauma, and yes, you can forgive her for those things, because as evidenced through s3e1 she is working on Doing Better and choosing to support her daughter, and making conscious choices to be an awesome mother now.
But she still did those things to Luz. Adults should know better, she should have been supporting Luz honestly and clearly from the start - but despite knowing her actions were hurting Luz, and that they felt wrong, she was in fact still doing them.
Her actions were due to her own feelings and experiences, and she knew they weren't right, but she still did them. Saying "she was ALWAYS a good parent" is not true, she made Luz feel so self conscious about herself that she legitimately chose to run away (kids who feel loved and respected won't do more than entertain the romantic idea of running away. They won't really ever do it) Luz was also so afraid of telling her the truth (that she ran away, feels like she fits in in the Boiling Isles, and doesn't really want to live in the human world any more) was her biggest fear at the time of Grom. Camila also made Luz feel the pressure to return so strongly (the whole "promise me you'll stay here." thing) that she ended up anxious, rushing into things, making poor choices, and in the end, wound up creating pretty horrific ripple effects, instead of thinking clearly on how to return home and how to deal with Belos. (Note: Camila's actions at that time were completely understandable, I'll add. She was terrified for her daughter, and for herself! But she let her feelings of being a bad/failure mother get in the way of listening to Luz's feelings, and instead of saying "I miss you and love you, please come back" went straight for "promise me you'll come back and won't ever leave again" which is a lot of pressure, and as we saw, not the kind of pressure Luz could handle) All of those things were caused by Camila not trusting in herself to be a good enough parent, by her wanting to do what's best for Luz according to Other People, yes. But she still did them.
Now, that said, she was always trying to be a good parent - the choices she made were because she wanted Luz to feel loved by other people. She missed the point, though - Luz felt less beloved by her mother due to the very things that Camila was choosing to do in order for Luz to feel loved by others. And she is an adult, who despite everything (trauma, being a single mother who wants to do right by her child, etc), is the one making these choices.
Finally we get to the season 3 stuff. This is the positive "you go, girl" section. (If you're still here, thank you! I know it's a bit of an essay!)
At this point, Camila has recognised the damage she caused, she's noticed that she does know what's best for her daughter, and doesn't want other people to tell her how to be a parent any more. Since she last saw Luz, she's been able to connect more genuinely with Vee (now knowing about all this magic and demons stuff), and has probably learned a thing or two about the world Luz is living in, but also she's been able to connect with herself properly, too. This time period is where she has made the conscious choice to stop doing things to Luz that feel wrong. Where she has chosen to be the mother she wants to be, and that Luz deserves.
And she spends the whole episode (of s3e1) proving that she loves her daughter, that she knows she made mistakes, and that she's willing to meet Luz halfway (and heck, even more than halfway by choosing to go to the Boiling Isles with her at the end - a direct contrast to her making Luz promise to stay in the human world with her).
By saying "you should never have hated her, she's always been a great mother" you're invalidating the fact that she willingly and whole-heartedly fought back against her generational trauma between the s2 mid-season and the beginning of s3.
She was doing bad-mother things (again, just because you know they're wrong, if you're doing them anyway, that doesn't make it okay), and now she has consciously chosen to do what she knows is right. She's chosen to stop doing what she's expected to do, and started doing what she wants to do, and decided to follow what she believes in. She's an awesome mother because she's chosen to fight against the world that made her treat her daughter badly.
She has done an awesome job! She's done something incredible! As an adult! What she has done is not something that's easy at all! So please, I beg of you, don't invalidate the work she put in to be this awesome. She worked so hard to be and do better, and deserves to be seen for that, instead of treating her like a child who said sorry after fighting with their sibling.
[And don't hate on the people who felt she was a bad parent before s3 - their feelings are 100% understandable. You can think she was a bad mother before season 3 and that she's a good mother since season 3 began! Both of these feelings can coexist!]

Would Empress Luz (once things are cleared up with Raine and Darius via mindscape trauma adventures) want to try reuniting with Camila via portal? I can see things re her and Vee and everything else coming to light (if Vee could even keep up the illusion that long) being very interesting/traumatising. Both for Luz, Vee and Camila and for Hunter and the rest of her newer adoptive family (Raine, Darius and Eda. I'd hope there'd eventually be a happy ending to it, but it would take some work.
ooh i actually do have an answer for this one!
in this AU, luz has been in the isles since she was about four, so her memories of the human world are vague and dreamy. she remembers having had human parents who loved her, but she wouldn't be able to pick them out of a lineup. (this also led to some upsetting discussions in my writing group chat about the consequences of her being raised by a colonizer - she's lost her spanish, is slightly more anxious about gender roles, etc, it's...... deeply sad and shitty)
the idea of returning to the human realm honestly scares the crap out of luz.
for one, she's much more comfortable around magic than she would be in a magic-less world; even though she KNOWS that she wouldn't be physically disabled in the human world like she is in the isles, and that she'd have an easier time finding food that doesn't make her sick, etc. she has some anxieties about how maybe she ~*~belongs~*~ there, because belos coming to the isles was clearly Not Fucking Good For Anyone. and on a more pointed note, belos used the human world to threaten her when they were fighting about hunter. so she has Very Few positive associations with the place
i'm FASCINATED by the concept of vee managing to escape and switch places with her around that time, i hadn't considered that before and it's. harrowing. it becomes kind of a changeling fairytale, right, except the changeling Knows she isn't human and remembers just enough to be TERRIFIED of being found out and sent back to the fae world.... GOD. poor vee. this is DELICIOUS.
the version of the story i've been working with so far, though, is one with this idea from my friend mock, because it fucking Haunts Me:
vee ends up escaping at around the same time as canon (well -- two years later, since luz is sixteen when the major events of the story play out). and when vee sees camila coming in the house, she takes the shape of the first person she sees in photos.
toddler luz.
aka. the daughter that camila is reasonably certain has been dead for over a decade.
i'm just imagining camila like. having a shaky near-sobbing breakdown and scooping vee-luz up and calling a friend like, i need you to come over and tell me if i'm hallucinating or if i'm seeing a real ghost. because camila KNOWS that if her daughter was alive, she'd be sixteen now.
i THINK vee would fess up pretty fast after that. because she feels Horrifically Guilty, AND because she can't play a Miracle Baby without inviting questions from much scarier humans, And because camila seems both so kind and so upset that vee is hoping she can make a break for it if she has to.
it's common knowledge in the isles that the princess is human, even though belos isn't out as human himself. because belos has been using luz as an excuse to do some human-supremacist white-savior-trope "the titan brought her from Real civilization to save you from yourselves <3" bullshit
and i think that vee would probably tell camila that. i'm 50/50 on whether vee knows luz's name or not (she certainly wouldn't know the name 'noceda,' at least). but either way, i think that camila would be like. okay. i have to be practical. i can't get my hopes up like this. my daughter is dead and it would be insane of me to chase this fantasy.
.....but i Have to know.
and like. she ESPECIALLY fucking has to know if she's heard even a Fraction of what vee has been through. vee has probably characterized the princess as just as evil as the rest of the royal family. but camila knows that even IF that's true, upbringing has a big impact on someone's character, and if her daughter was raised by an evil fascist then..... someone has to help her. no matter how terrible she is.
so i just imagine like. camila managing to find her way into the boiling isles (how this happens is up in the air. i haven't figured out exact portal logistics), IMMEDIATELY outing herself as a human, and demanding to see the emperor. and being told that the emperor died very recently, but she can meet the empress instead.
and it's luz. and luz's public-facing persona is made of steel (albeit friendly and kind steel), but her private self is transparently fragile in ways that are Extremely Alarming, and camila is like.
okay.
what. the fuck. did that man do to you.
(there's a background fic here. for anyone looking for expansion on uh. what exactly that man did to her. yikes!)

Hi, the peach you're hating now for sending you that video. Firstable, since because that hurt you a lot as I can see, I apologise from the bottom of my heart. But honestly, it's very easy to understand what she did, luckily, it only lasted 1 season and none of the girls were invited to be part of the shows (even if there were a lot of people who posted on the comments to see them together and tell everything). You can still make that Twitter thread and hate me at the same time, but remember, you can count on me with the idea of revealing the dark side of Ally. May God forgive her beacuse we don't. Blessings...
Hey buddy. I don't hate you, I'm just still not over that video and everything she said. I can't believe how someone who was always seen as the ray of sunshine in the group could be someone so fucked up and obnoxious. So fake and so lying.
I also don't know what kind of karma Lauren is paying to have met someone so vile. Seriously buddy. I can not understand it.
Everything that came out of her mouth is a fucking lie. At least when it comes to girls Camila and Lauren it's a fucking lie and yes I'm going to write about it but I'm going to need some evidences. The bodyshaming thing with Lauren, for example. There are many things that I am still trying to assimilate and it is not being easy. I'm going to have a very hectic night because I need to vent, but also analyze and understand because I still feel like I'm in a fucking parallel universe where everything I thought I knew isn't real.
I never thought that I could dislike someone more than the diva and that. I understand why they got along so well.
Too much to process, but thank you so much for telling me about this because I didn't know.
Next time, please give me a warning because my poor head was at the point of mental collapse and I'm not kidding. 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫

Imagine if the TWST boys visited Washington Heights
I am going to tie this to the AU where Sonny is the MC in TWST because it's just more fun and interesting that way :3
Like, Crowley thinks he's finally got a way to get Sonny back, but as usual, something goes wrong, and suddenly, Sonny is home...but also is buried by all his friends who somehow tumbled in after him and now they're all in Sonny's apartment right when Usnavi opens the door.
One reunion with the barrio later, everyone clearly doesn't know what's going on, but they DO know that they now have 22 teenagers to take care of, or rather, 19 teenagers, 2 fairies, and a robot, so they kinda role with the punches. They probably split up the group in terms of where to sleep.
But honestly, the very interesting thing here would be the culture clash, specifically with how poor the barrio is. Just about all the TWST boys are either upper or maybe middle-low class, with the only exception being Ruggie (you don't get pick-pocketing skills and obsessions with free food without having some kind of money struggle). First of all, their money is no good here, meaning they're at the mercy of the barrio and their ways. Vil would struggle the most with this, since he can't find a fancy place to keep his beauty up to his standard which means he'll have to go cold turkey for a while. Other than that, just about everyone else would probably be stunned at how rough things can be sometimes. Money is tight, lots of people struggle every day to make ends meet, and their community is being slowly eaten alive by richer businesses buying out their own. That could be a real privilege check for a lot of them (except Ruggie, he's probably very interested in how the community works cause he can relate and sympathize more than he realizes)
But the best part would be the character's interactions with them. Vil and Rook would get along swimmingly with Daniela, Floyd and Kalim would LOVE Carla, Jade, Jamil, and Trey would cook with Camila (Lilia would get banned from the kitchen immediately), Jack, Deuce, and Epel would look up to Benny and Vanessa, Riddle would probably hang out with Nina the most to pick her brain about the things there are to learn in this world, Ace probably ends up with Pete cause they can both be chill and carefree together, Azul maybe would jump in on the business stuff with Kevin and Usnavi, and Ruggie would stick by Abuela's side (cause I think he has one himself)

I just think that Avatrice's first time will be almost unbearably sweet. Like, just absolute devotion and worship, and Bea definitely cries (and Ava just barely stops herself from doing the same).
It's not something I find myself thinking about often, but honestly you're so right. Beatrice has been so fucking repressed -- she still is, though not as much now :')) -- and however long it takes, whenever they're comfortable for that step, they're going to be so sweet about the whole thing. They already touch each other with enough devotion that you could create a new religion about it (or rewrite an old one), and that would only take it to a whole new level.
(I once again spare a thought for poor Camila and Mother Superion. Ava and Beatrice are going to be so incredibly annoying.)

Just saw your new ask and I just... Had to process it all.
Like, your so right! The fandom dose mostly zero into the traumatic junk, wich I still appreciate but these are teenagers. Hormonal, sweaty, teenagers.
So it would just add to all the drama when their dealing with it all.
And the poor girls! I'm sure you have heard of the McClintock effect, so all these poor lady's need to deal with figuring out how to get back home and to get though the pain.
I can just totally imagine Gus and Hunter freaking out and running back and forth while all the girls are just on the couch, with chips, watching TV.
And honestly, I don't think Hunter would even know this happens to lady's. So when he just notices multiple piles of blood while taking out the trash, he freaks.
and It gose to a point with him confronting and pressing everyone about it until Camila has to set him and Gus down for the conversation.
Let alone finding out girls younger than them, have to deal with such pain each month? Gus and him are on there hands and knees, worshipping the girls by now.
( plus Hunters still trying to get over the thought of Willow in a little too revealing dress.)
Anon, okay, stay with me because omg you've given me so much more to think about:
Right off the bat, while I think what you're saying is totally likely, I feel it would be funnier if Hunter knew what a period was because he's a smart kid, and I'm assuming he knows anatomy and basic biology, but he doesn't actually know what a period is. I hardly doubt a coven scout would want to talk to their technical child-superior about their pms lmao, so, he's aware of it, but in a "damn, that's insane, anyway, moving on..." kind of way.
Gus would know too, but that's because he's been friends with Willow for a while now, and when you're that close with someone, you start to know what's up. Like, when I was younger, my little brothers' fukcin knew when I was on my period. '
Anyway, I envision it going one of two ways:
1 --> it ends up being like that Modern Family Skit where all the girls get their period at the same time, and Gus realizes what's going on and has to inform Hunter why everyone's so emotional. (Here's a link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1AkjhcImkPs&ab_channel=ABC)
2 --> Hunter starts noticing something weird. Like a bloody stain on a bed sheet while he's helping Ms. Camila, or more abnormal trash in the trash can, or the way the girls discretely talk to each other, and he's 99% convinced they're colluding against him and Gus. And then one day, he's just like, oh shit, "Captain, is your butt bleeding!?!"
And poor Willow sinks to the ground mortified in the local Aldi's because she's bled through her dress while Amity rips Hunter a new one, and Luz goes into protective friend mode to get Willow out of the store without further embarrassment.
When Gus (cause I think it's just so funny if Gus explains things to Hunter #brobesties) finally explains why Willow is pissed off at him, I think that's when Hunter's like, "oh shit, and they get that every month??"
(((like srsly there is just something so funny about a 12 yr old being a 16 yr old's life coach)))
And then cue, every month the boys freaking out, and the girls chilling on the couch like you said because that's funny as hell.
also also also:
I love when ppl h/c hunter as trans ftm. I'm like perf, awesome, love the rep.
So anyway, wouldn't it be just fucking heartbreaking if Hunter slowly reveals to the others that no one taught him what a period was? Like, every month, he just thinks he's chosen to suffer, and the girls to teach their friend what no adult was kind enough to teach him?? Or like, let's say Hunter figures out what a period is (because, like I said before, he's probably too smart not to), but he's still under the general assumption that you have to suffer through your period, and the girls introduce him to heating pads and pain killers, chocolate, and just "absolutely go crazy me-days." And sure, the dysphoria may kick in a little, but it still feels nice being accepted and not so alone anymore.
And then there's Gus, who's just a 12 yr old, so still a lil stupid when it comes to developing bodies, and he's just like, "guys! I can't wait to get my first period so we can all be in this together!" And they gotta break it to him, which ends up being a very dark day at the Noceda household.
((also lol if Willow wore anything revealing, I think he'd be the embodiment of "I am looking respectfully" and his proper guard etiquette would kick in))
