I have this friend, and he’s basically my dad. A surrogate dad if you will. And we’re basically Ellie & Joel, hopper & El, and Bella & Pedro all smushed into one. TLOU means so much to us because it’s like watching ourselves on tv. It brought us closer and helped us see how much we mean to each other. He’s also said that if he was in Joel’s position, it wouldn’t even be a question to him. He’d do whatever it took to make sure not even a hair on my head would be harmed. Regardless of the consequences.

Do you know how intense it is to have someone love you that much? It’s scary and overwhelming. Especially since he chose to. My biological father didn’t. That’s why it means so much more.

Thinking about Hopper vs Brenner and how unlike Brenner, Hopper knows and acknowledges that she's a kid. He calls her kid. He's protective of her and doesn't want her to grow up too fast. While Brenner always marveled at her use of her powers in a literal "isolation tank", Hopper stood with her as she closed the gate, despite not doing anything, just because he knew that she was a kid and needed someone there with her.

I love this post and I completely agree with it. I think people really underestimate the influence and importance of El in mike and hoppers lives. Like I think people just don't understand just how important she is to both of them (though in different ways of course) and just how much they both love her. To hopper she's his youngest, and his baby girl (last of us fans know the importance of that word) she's also his second chance at being a father and that motivates him to not mess it up and protect her with all he's got. With mike, she's his lucky penny, she's his best person, the person who will always love him unconditionally and more than anything (besides his mother hehe), she will never intentionally leave him, she will always protect him and always be there for him and assure him that he is more than what people think and show him that he's not just some nerd. El gives hopper another chance at being a father, El gives mike the rare opportunity and chance at true unconditional love in their youngest years that will last forever.

Hopper may be els superhero, but to mike and hopper, she is theirs. She is the real superhero. She is their guiding light, that they can't live without. Their everything. And she's the reason why they can still see the light at the end of the tunnel. She is their motivation. She shows them that there are still good things in life. She shows hopper that he isn't entirely broken and that he can be a father again, she shows mike that he can love and be loved to the fullest extent.

Hopper comes back from Russia and immediately and unwillingly gets adopted into whatever the hell Steve and Robin have going on because - “Well, you were tortured by Russians, right? Welcome to the club.”

“Why is there a club?” Hopper asks, saddled with two morons that won’t leave him alone. “What do you mean by torture? What happened to you?”

In conclusion, once again, El's personal arc is about family more than romance and her relationship with Hopper seems to be what the writers are focusing on. Will's arc is about romantic love and his feelings for Mike. This kinda spells out how the ending of the love triangle, don't you think? Why would the writers focus on those two pairings in the last season of the show if Mike and El are supposed to be this endgame power couple? Why did Mike promise to be a team and to kill Vecna with his best friend who's secretely in love with him instead of his superhero girlfriend? Where exactly is the supposed "main couple of the show"?

Steve spends the summer after they defeat Vecna teaching El how to make noise

It starts one day in his kitchen, when she catches him whistling. Brows furrowed as she tries to copy him, she asks him how to do it. For a minute, Steve is surprised; what kid doesn't know how to whistle? And then he remembers - El hadn't gotten to have a childhood. Not really. He thinks about all the normal kid stuff she was denied, and his chest aches just a little. He forgets whatever he'd been doing and spends the whole afternoon teaching her how to whistle

Once she has a pretty good grasp on whistling, he asks if she wants to learn how to do it really loud, and teaches her how to whistle with her fingers

Showing her how to snap her fingers is easy, and after she masters that, he shows her how to make a popping noise with her fingers tucked under her chin

He spends one afternoon showing her how to make a hooting noise with her cupped hands, and another how to whistle with two blades of grass. Sometimes he'll find something the other kids in the party don't know how to do, either, and he'll gladly show them, if they'll listen long enough

He draws on every little trick he'd learned growing up, from his friends, from summer camp, from his time in the Scouts. He learns that El has never gotten to play a kazoo, so he makes her one with wax paper and a comb, the way his grandad had shown him so many summers ago, and lets her go to town

By the end of summer, Hopper is ready to murder Steve - except El looks so happy, so pleased with herself, making popping noises with her lips, snapping her fingers, giggling as Jonathan and Will try and fail to copy the bird call Steve showed her. For that smile on her face, Hopper guesses he can put up with it

(He gets his revenge by teaching El how to whistle the Andy Griffith theme song and unleashing her on Steve. It takes a week for Steve to get the tune out of his head)
