always a fun time when real life people are doomed by their own narratives. like guys you know it doesn’t have to be like this right? this isn’t a stageplay the foreshadowing isn’t real until you make it real

Reading homophobic posts and comments is always so wild to me. Like I constantly forget common sense isn't always that common.

makes me a little sad when star trek ignores IDIC. like. vulcans are logical. that is true. But 'logical', for vulcans, does not amount to 'without compassion,' and it definitely doesn't amount to 'racial superiority.' Belief in 'infinite diversity in infinite combinations' should NOT result in the weird racist/speciest stuff we're getting in some of the newer treks. It does make sense that some vulcans are discriminatory. They're still flawed. But that should not be common or expected, like it seems to be in SNW. If it is, then it's a race of hypocrites, which. doesn't seem very true to Star Trek's message.
I think TOS Spock does a pretty good job of embodying this. Not always, it was the 60s, after all, but mostly. He was often trying to find non-violent routes, and get by without killing - even if they were in danger or had already been attacked. (See: the mugato, and the horta (until Kirk was the one in danger, lmao. t'hy'la > IDIC), the Gorn ship). Kirk, in his eulogy, calls him the most human soul he's ever known, and I've always read that as Kirk calling out Spock's overwhelming compassion.
It's just so much more interesting when Vulcans get to be radically compassionate. I want them to believe that everything and everyone has value. I want them to respect all ways of being. I want them to find ways for even very non-humanoid aliens to exist unfettered in society. I want them to see hybrids and think that it's amazing. Also, like, disability rep. I want Vulcans to have The Most Accessible Planet and available resources because they want everyone to feel accepted and valued. It makes for better characters and more interesting stories.

Sorry for not having a Year of the Dragon MDZS artwork; Unfortunately, I can only picture Dragon LWJ in this particular flavour.

something about how an edwardian boy who died in 1916 and a ska punk who died in 1989 are each other's perfect counterparts. something about how they crossed each other's timelines at just the right time to find one another in the most unlikely of ways and decided they were going to stay together forever, against all odds and despite every obstacle.
something about how they are from utterly different centuries and have such different histories, and they shouldn't be as compatible as they are. but they actively chose one another, and they are together so seamlessly and irreversibly now, such that gods and endless will not separate them.
something about how they both were born, and lived for sixteen years in their completely disparate eras, and died tragic, heartbreaking deaths; not knowing that they would find safety, care, love, belonging in their shared afterlife the likes of which they never were granted while living in their own years.
something about them subverting the classic tropes to create their own narrative, in a way that enhances the meaning and depth of the original tropes.
something about st. hilarion's, a place host to so much pain and abuse, was also the place where these two dead boys' paths were destined to converge. something about the attic of st. hilarion's being one of the first safe places either of them ever found, where their bond began to be formed. something about that bond, which transcends and overcomes life and death, pain, fear, loneliness, and trauma while acknowledging, respecting, and honoring the lasting effects of all of them.
something about the fact that they might never, ever have met except by the most far-fetched chance.
but they existed, out there for each other, even coming into the world seventy-three years apart.
something about soulmates existing across time...

love when you can ask the Narrator why the Princess is a Princess and he's like 'well i uhhhh YOU did that. maybe it's because uh... something something about her being above you... but still approachable... look i don't want to analyze or anthropomorphize your--' my guy. i am a primal being of Order and Eternity and Shaping. You're the one who convinced me I was some dude and were quite willing to take credit for shaping my view on the world through narration five seconds ago. Are you gonna look me in the eye and tell me the desire to interpret something worthy of adoration and more powerful than me as a dommy princess is written in the very nature of the universe or are you going to show me your browser history like a man

I know it’s common for RE fans to lament the fact that Leon never got to live his dream of being a cop but I feel like he was going to have a severely rude awakening resulting in the loss of his innocence either way. His chief of police was a serial rapist and murderer who liked to taxidermy his victims’ bodies. In an AU where umbrella never existed and there’s no zombies he most likely would have been harassed/threatened off the force bc he tried to expose Irons.

"Hiccup the right brained wild dragon boy" Hiccup the grounded, awkward, left-brained human dude who is snappy and sarcastic and quick to the draw, who can stand firm on the ground.
Hiccup, who wants to be rough yet jokes and ribs when others are smelly and violent, when they are messy and wild and pull pranks and roll around like animals, who walks with set shoulders, who isn't smooth, isn't at all like his mother in the way she crouches and crawls and rattles hollow bones with hunched shoulders, who can't connect to dragons so easy- not at her level, in a way that seems nearly supernatural, nonhuman- yet somehow he finds a way to make up for that, joking and speaking to his dragon as if he himself is a man.
Hiccup, who seems more comfortable in the forge than on his own two feet, who had to learn to have empathy for dragons, something which came natural to her.
Hiccup, who needs people too, who is able to connect with them in the same way his mother can't, who wants others the same way she is pushed away from them, both different in completely opposite ways, one more human than anyone just as the other is more dragon than man.
Hiccup is a human first and a dragon rider second which is exactly the kind of trait that allowed him to bond with Toothless in the first place, the same kind of trait that allowed him to make Berk better. Valka is a dragon first and a human second which was what made her such a good member of the dragon sanctuary.
Hiccup makes dragons human while Valka becomes a dragon herself.
