Bobby's Advice to Eddie in 6x17 is Buddie-Coded
Eddie's decision to go on a date with Marisol at the end of 6x18 does not jive with the advice Bobby gave him in their talk at the hardware store in 6x17. I believe what Bobby said holds significance and will eventually still come into play.
Tumblr media
Early in the 6x17 episode, when the 118 are on their way to a call, Eddie is teased for his disastrous attempts at finding a date. He says, "I just want what I had when I met Shannon. It was magic."
By the episode's end, Eddie finds himself alone in the hardware store, searching for glue for Christopher's school project when Marisol spots him. "Looking for something?" she asks. She points him to the right glue saying, "Works like magic." Eddie happily replies, "This is exactly what I was looking for." This implies that Eddie associates this chance encounter with Marisol as the "magic" he was looking for that he mentioned to the team—a similarity or familiarity, more of the same.
However, none of this resonates with what Bobby was trying to convey to him earlier in the hardware store - in the very same episode!
The two main points Bobby made to Eddie:
1.) "You can't compare what you had with what you think you're going to have." He advises Eddie to be open to whatever comes, even if it's not what he initially sought. This is evidently contrary to what he finds in Marisol. 2.) Bobby shares how he realized Athena was the one for him. He recalls a tough motorcycle call and how Athena "sat with him."
Who in Eddie's life fits both points 1 and 2 best? Buck! Buck is unlike what Eddie had with Shannon. Buck has been there for Eddie in some of his darkest moments, notably after his breakdown. Buck and Eddie mirror Athena and Bobby's dynamic perfectly when it comes to point 2.
Tumblr media
Bobby seems so eager and attentive to Eddie in this scene, ready to help, hopeful that Eddie will figure something out, yet patient because Eddie hasn't fully connected the dots yet but needs to do so on his own.
The bottom line: Bobby's words carry weight. They mean something. Bobby's wisdom matters. The show wouldn't have included this scene and these words in the script if Bobby's advice meant nothing to the overall story still being written, right? Right?
We know Bobby is somewhat of a mastermind; consider his decision to send Chimney to the academy in 6x14, which ultimately helped both Chim grow as a leader and led to Chim bringing Ravi back to rejoin the 118.
When it comes to Buck and Eddie's relationship, I think Bobby quietly sees something between them that transcends beyond friendship. Something different. Something more. Even if Buck and Eddie haven't fully realized it themselves yet.
Bonus quip from this episode: When Eddie tells the team on the truck, "It was magic," Chimney smirks and says, "So you believe in magic?" (obviously a poke at Eddie's fervent belief that the Universe does not scream), Eddie responds, "I believe in chemistry." And we more than know he and Buck have the ultimate chemistry with each other. ;)

I know I talked about a "near the dock" cruise ship disaster would be a great opening because the firefam could help with the rescue and run into Bobby and Athena but also, I kinda think a ship crash/lost at sea story could be fun to have everyone THINKING Bobby is dead so we get some MCD angst from the mains but we see him and a few survivors together and eventually getting rescued. I just think it would be delicious and after this season said Bobby is Buck's dad and then did fuck all with it after that, it would be nice to have Buck just absolutely lost and I would love to see Athena lose it a little bit too and them supporting each other, and then finding Bobby and giving us more momemts like when Bobby was exposed to radiation and Buck was worried about him but dialed up to 10.
Bonus points if his gf *tries* to help but we already know she's got zero empathy about death and Buck realizes it's not what he wants and we never have to think about that again.

Hear me out. In the beginning, I totally could see Bobby and Chimney as a thing. I really loved their very few interactions because they were impactful. Bobby comforting Chim when he broke down about his rebar accident. And Chim bringing Bobby to the hospital to show him how many lives he's saving with his blood and being one of the main reasons Bobby stopped having suicidal ideation. That scene at the hospital while they were looking at the baby Bobby saved together was 🥺🥺🥺. It's also really funny because Bobby's like all serious and Chimney's all silly adhd. And secretly pan Bobby is my jam. Also I LOVE my Asian LGBTQ+ representation okay! So it was a totally valid ship in my head. I just talked about bi Chimney in passing the other day but y'all now know my deep dark secret. This was why I had a Bi! Chimney headcanon 😔✊🏽
(Me realizing as I type this out that Bobby and Chim are basically Buddie if they were older lmao 😭)

I’m currently watching 9-1-1 6x18 (so spoilers).
I had to pause in my watching, because as soon as I heard the first notes and the “I’m slowly drifting”, I was down in tears.
You don’t understand. This song is called “My tears are becoming the sea” (by M83). It’s been in my playlist for some time now, and it always made feel things, but now? Right now, in that context? Is that implying that the 118 is gonna lose a parent?! No no no no no, I’m not ready for that. I’m not. F-ck.
And the symbolism of the song??! The fact that Buck is the one to go?! FR THE SYMBOLISM I CAN’T-

I’d love a request where the reader is Bobbys daughter and dating Buck. It’s a hot day and the reader has gone to the firehouse to see everyone but she ends up feeling unwell because of the heat and Buck looks after her.
hello, love! ahh thank you so much for this request! and thanks to everyone who voted! it's my first time writing for Buck so I hope you like it! also, I'm not sure why, I swear I read somewhere that Bobby didn't know they were dating so that's kind of the course this took, so I hope that's okay! Warnings: reader faints because of the heat; I think that’s it, but always let me know if I missed anything Disclaimer: I don’t own 9-1-1 😊 gif isn’t mine 😁

"Okay, how does this look?" you asked, placing the lasagna in the middle of the table. Buck had texted you that the team was on their way back so you needed to hurry up.
"For the third time, honey, yes. It looks good" Athena said as she brought the bread with her and you went over to finish the salad you were making. You had learned a thing or two from your father and you started to actually enjoy cooking. It brought the two of you together after you lost the rest of your family, and it usually helped calm you down, but not today. "Look, I know you're nervous about telling your dad about you and Buck, but you need to breathe and relax" she said, walking closer to you.
You had been seeing Buck for a long time now. At first, you didn't want to tell your dad, mostly because you weren't even sure if the two of you were serious. Then, it got serious quickly and the two of you agreed to tell your dad when you were both ready. So now, because the two of you wanted to move in together, you knew you had to tell him. So, here you were, cooking your father's favorite meal for lunch, and hoping to have your dad in a good mood for later tonight when you were going to finally tell him.
"I know, I know" you said to Athena, who had kindly volunteered to help you since it was her day off. "It's just... my dad has hated every single boyfriend I've had" you told her.
"Oh, I know. He's told me about all the insipid, idiot, good-for-nothings you've dated before" she said, making you widen your eyes at her. "His words not mine" she said, making you roll your eyes. "But he adores Buck, like his own son. I mean, they even went to a Bruce Springsteen concert together" she reminded you.
"Ugh, I know, nobody loves Springsteen as much as those two" you said, making Athena let out a chuckle. "Look, I know he loves Buck... as part of his team. I'm not sure if he's gonna love Buck as my boyfriend" you said, nervously.
"Of course he will. Because as much as he loves Buck, he loves you more than anything and anyone" she reminded you. "And he's going to see how happy he makes you" she smiled.
"You really think so?" you asked, smiling back.
"I really do" she nodded. It actually meant a lot to you what Athena thought too. You knew she didn't particularly like Buck at first, but she had mentioned to you how he's changed and how she sees that the two of you brought out the best in each other. "Looks like they're here" she said, when you saw the truck pulling into the station.
"Okay" you said, placing the salad on the table. "I think the bear claws are done" you said, wiping your hands on your apron, and went over to the oven.
"Really? You had to make his favorite dessert?" Athena said, rolling her eyes. "Aren't you trying a bit too hard?"
"Better safe than sorry" you smiled nervously.
"Hey, what's all this?" Hen asked, being the first one to get upstairs.
"Do I smell your dad's famous lasagna?" Chim was the next one to appear. "Please tell me I'm right" he smiled, seeing at the setup table.
"You are correct" you smiled.
"Oh, this is why you're my favorite Nash" he smiled.
"Hey! I heard that" you heard your father coming up. "This is a nice surprise" he smiled, looking at the two of you before he went over to his wife and gave her a kiss.
"Yeah-" Athena started before you interrupted her.
"It was Athena's idea" you quickly said. "I uh, just... tagged along to help with the cooking" you smiled as Buck and Eddie finally made it upstairs.
"Hey, little Nash" Eddie said, walking over to greet you. Aside from Athena, he was the only one who knew about the two of you. And Christopher.
"Well, I'm happy to see you" Bobby said, before walking over to you and kissing your head. "Both of you" he added. "This looks good, duck" he smiled as you rolled your eyes a little.
"Why is it that he calls you duck?" you heard Chimney ask when he was taking his seat.
"Why does he call you Chimney?" you smirked and he glared at you.
Your dad laughed and walked over to the table with Athena as he started telling Hen and Chim that he called you duck because you used to be a really grumpy kid and when you were a toddler, you sounded like Donald Duck whenever you argued with him about something.
"Hey" Buck said, walking closer to you as you walked to the oven. "How are you feeling?" he smiled.
"I'm... fine" you smiled wearily.
"You're a terrible liar" he chuckled.
"I know" you said, opening the oven and feeling the heat struck you. It was already extremely hot outside. This just made it ten times worse. "I'm just a little nervous" you said, getting back up, suddenly feeling dizzy, and making you drop the tray with bear claws a bit faster and louder than you intended on the counter, getting the attention of the four people on the table.
"Whoa" Buck said, worriedly, getting closer to you.
"Are you sure you're okay?" Eddie asked. "You're sweating a lot"
"Yeah, no I just... felt a bit light-headed" you said, placing your wrist on your forehead.
"Did you eat something today? Maybe you need to sit down" Buck said pulling you closer to him. "Look at me" he instructed.
"I'm fine, sweetheart-" you tried smiling before Buck saw your eyes roll over to the back of your head and you collapsed in front of him. He quickly wrapped his arms around your waist, preventing you from falling all the way to the ground.
"Bobby!" Buck yelled, even if Bobby was already rushing to you as Buck and Eddie carried you to the sofa.
"Chim! Hen! Get your bag!" Bobby ordered. "What happened?"
"I think it's the heat" Eddie said as Chimney came running back up with his bag, handing Hen what she needed.
"Did she eat anything at all today?" she questioned.
"Not while she was with me" Athena replied.
"She didn't have breakfast either" Buck said, feeling guilty. He was the main reason why you were late and didn't have breakfast.
"What? She didn't?" Bobby asked, confused. "Wait, how do you know that?"
"Um... she texted me?" Buck smiled, nervously as Eddie and Athena shared a look, thinking it was probably best to give everyone some space.
"You two... text each other?" Bobby asked as Chimney and Hen shared a different, confused look.
"Oh, I did not see this coming" Chim muttered to Hen.
"Seriously? You didn't?" she asked before going back to examining you.
*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*
You slowly opened your eyes and realized you were at the 118 station and you had a cold cloth pressed against your forehead. You tried to sit up but Buck quickly ran over to you.
"Whoa, easy there, love" he said, sitting on the coffee table in front of you. "Hi" he smiled sweetly at you, offering you a bottle of water. "How are you feeling?"
"A bit dumb, to be honest" you chuckled, accepting the water and taking a sip. "W-what happened?"
"You fainted" he reminded you. "Sweetheart, why didn't you tell me you hadn't eaten today?"
"I'm sorry" you frowned. "I didn't think it would be a big deal. I didn't have time to eat this morning and, then I went to work, and then I started cooking and I lost track of time and, I guess the heat didn't help" you said shyly.
"No, it didn't" your dad said, walking over and sitting on the edge of the sofa. "How are you feeling duck?"
"A bit better" you said.
"Well, it's a good thing your boyfriend is always alert and quick on his feet" he said, casually.
"Yeah, he- wait, what did you say?" you froze, realizing what he'd just say. "Did I hit my head?" you asked Buck. "Did my dad just call you my boyfriend?"
"Yeah, I'm sorry, sweetheart" Buck smiled apologetically. "I know you had a whole thing planned tonight, but I let it slip that you didn't have breakfast today, and well... I kind of told him" he explained.
"Y-you did?" you asked, feeling a bit nauseous again. "Does he know we're moving in together?"
"What?!"
"He does now" Buck said with a tight-lipped smile.
"You're moving in together?" your dad asked.
"I uh-" you stuttered. "Y-yeah" you admitted. "W-we were going to tell you tonight at dinner" you insisted.
"Is that why you came to make my favorite lunch? So I'd be in a good mood?" he asked, knowing you too well.
"M-maybe?" you smiled. "A-are you mad?"
"No, honey. I'm not mad" he chuckled, pulling you closer and kissing your temple. "I don't love the fact that you hid it from me for so long" he added. "But I'm glad you're with someone who I know cares about you as much as I know Buck does" he smiled. "And, if I'm being honest, I kind of suspected it for a while" he said, surprising you.
"You did not" you glared at him.
"You both are terrible liars and I mean, you only make bear claws when you're giving me bad news" he smirked, making you roll your eyes.
"Wait, does that mean, I'm bad news?" Buck asked.
"What? N-no" you said unconvincingly. "I make them when I'm not sure how he will react" you insisted.
"Yeah" Bobby said. "To bad news" he repeated with a chuckle. I'm glad you're happy, duck" he told you.
"Thanks, dad" you smiled. "I really am" you told him.
"I'm gonna go get you something to eat, okay?" he said, getting up and kissing your head again. "Don't ever scare me like that again" he muttered before walking away.
"So, your dad knows about us" Buck smiled at you.
"Yeah, and it didn't go bad at all" you said, excitedly.
"Not bad at all? Sweetheart, do I need to remind you that you just fainted?"
"Well, yeah but... I mean aside from that" you pouted, making him smile at you before giving you a peck on the lips.
"You really scared me" he said, worriedly.
"I'm sorry, love" you insisted.
"You don't have to apologize" he said. "Especially since it was kind of my fault you didn't have breakfast" he said, blushing a little. "But now that we are going to live together, I will make sure you don't leave the house without eating first" he instructed, making you roll your eyes a little.
"Fine" you smiled before he leaned in for another kiss. "I love you" you told him.
"I love you too" he smiled.

*in another universe* Chimney: So you're not transferring? Tommy: Yeah, I think there's still a few years left for me in this station. Hen: Works for me, but what about the probie? Bobby: Jensen is still moving, so we have the space. Speaking of, here he comes - best behaviour firefighters. Buck, cute cocky and adorable: Hi, I think I'm supposed to report to a Captain Nash? Tommy, blinking: Oh, damn. I'm definitely gay. Hen, whispering: ...Pay up, Chim. Chimney: Dammit, Kinard.

Buck is bisexual
Buck is a Grown Ass Man who can handle his business just fucking fine thank you.
Buck is dating/in a happy relationship with Tommy Kinard
Buck was the one who changed the tone of their conversation by making the joke about Daddy Issues while they were eating dinner. He made the joke with a smirk on his face because he was flirting with Tommy, his boyfriend..who he thinks is a “beast”
Tommy flirted back because he thinks Evan, his boyfriend, is adorable.
Now that Bobby is ok, Buck is happy (except for that whole Gerrard business at the end of the episode)
BOBBY NASH said Tommy is good people. And that he’s good for Buck.
Buck and Eddie are best friends..like family. They love each other like family.
Eddie is going through a very difficult time right now.
Eddie mislead Kim and betrayed Marisol
Chris and Marisol walked in on Eddie and Kim in a compromising position
Chris is mad at his father and has left to live with his grandparents in Texas.
Buddie shipper’s, the people who hate Tommy/want him to die (don’t make me pull out receipts. Ya’ll know your special blend of hate/vitriol/ridiculousness is scattered all over the internet)
You can flog your half truths (see above regarding “Daddy Issues”) and your hateful rhetoric (see tags #i would’ve killed him with a gun omfg, #need him executed in the town square, #need that man dead by the first ep of s8) if that is what feeds your soul..

Enjoy your summer! We know Buck and Tommy will

Bobby Nash's character is actually so well built. I mean. You are the child of a drunk, abusive man, but adores him more than anything else. He's a hero, fighting them fires. And your loyal, young ass just decides to stay with him. Not because you have to, but cause he needs you. He needs your help, you can't walk out now. You are a child and believe you killed your own dad, even though everyone say it's not your fault, you know he died after you fought.
You are a firefighter who caused a fire, who killed your wife and kids. They all say it's not your fault, but you start seeing a pattern here. You are so full of guilt your life won't truly keep going. You get marry, practically adopt every fucker you have the pleasure of knowing, save so many people it doesn't fit in the notebook anymore. Yet you still feel the need to pay with your life. To end it all, for your loved ones and for yourself. It's been years. That's what you know. What you have, is the feeling all of it happened last night. You are unable to move on, and unable to keep still.

@bucktommyweek Prompt: Alternate First Meeting
What if Tommy never left the 118?
word count: 985
AO3 LINK
The laughter around the table never failed to make Tommy smile as he ate.
These moments with the 118 had only just started to become the norm when he had applied for his transfer to Harbor. But, thankfully, that transfer had fallen through at the last minute and Bobby had agreed to keep him on for at least another year as he reapplied. And while becoming a pilot for the LAFD was Tommy’s dream, he was glad for the extra time spent with the 118 and its new dynamic.
The firehouse under Captain Gerrard was very much a thing of the past, now, and Tommy was glad that he was able to see the 118 become what it was today from the inside, rather than the outside looking in. It had become a family.
To which a new member was set to join today.
Everyone was in high spirits as they ate lunch, waiting for the new Probie to turn up.
Tommy spun his spaghetti onto his fork, humming in agreement to whatever Hen had just said as he ate it. He looked up from his plate as he chewed, and spotted a kid bounding his way across the walkway towards them.
He nudged Howie in the side with his elbow.
“Cap,” Howie relayed, his own mouth also still stuffed with pasta. Tommy rolled his eyes at him and Howie shot him a muffled What? before taking another bite with a smirk.
“Uh… Hi!” The kid greeted with a nervous little wave as he came to a stop, “I’m Evan Buckley? New recruit. I was told to report to Captain Nash…”
The table fell silent as the prank they’d planned for this moment got underway.
Bobby tilted his head to the side in believable mock confusion at Evan’s words, before turning to everyone at the table. Tommy had to take another bite of food to stop himself from either speaking up in the kid’s defense, or laughing at his expense.
“You know a Captain Nash?” Bobby asked Howie, who, dramatically, shook his head, obviously trying not to laugh himself, “You?” Bobby asked Hen, who did a much more convincing head shake her face a mask of confusion.
“You?” Bobby finally asked Tommy. He swallowed his pasta, and his laughter, as he shook his head.
“Nope,” He answered with a shrug, lips threatening to quirk.
“Uh…” Evan started, his eyes widening and his fingers fidgeting with the strap of his bag. “Um…”
Finally Cap let him out of his misery with a smile, pulling the empty seat at his side out from the table.
“Take a seat, Evan,” He said, and finally Tommy could let his laugh free.
It came out louder than he expected, a full body laugh instead of the chuckle he’d been anticipating, but Evan had just looked so incredibly adorable with the dear in headlights look in his blue eyes, with the nervous fidgeting belied by a smile, with the way he jumped at the sound of Tommy’s laughter before laughing along with everyone else. A giant grin spread across Evan’s face, a flush gracing his cheeks and he ducked his head as he sat in the offered seat.
“Thanks,” Evan said before looking around at the plethora of plates on the table, then at everyone sitting around him. His blue eyes met Tommy’s and Tommy felt his heart literally skip a beat in his chest as that grin was turned in his direction.
“This is amazing,” Evan gushed, turning away from Tommy and beginning to load his plate, “Is it always like this?”
“Always,” Hen agreed, sharing a smile with Tommy and Howie. Tommy smiled back at her with a nod, while Howie swallowed his pasta.
“Well,” He added, “When Bobby’s in the Captain’s chair, anyway.”
Evan smiled, ducking his head again as if trying to hide the look of disbelief that flashed across his face.
“Think I might be in the right place,” He said, mostly to himself, and begun to dig into his plate of spaghetti.
Tommy diverted his eyes from Evan, finally, and spun his spaghetti onto his fork, willing his heart rate to even out. He could feel Hen’s eyes on him from across the table and he risked a glance towards her.
She was looking at him with contemplation in her eyes, the look eerily similar to the one she got when she had just figured out some confusing medical emergency. Tommy raised his eyebrows at her in the universal signal for what? and she looked between himself and Evan before raising her own in return. Tommy felt his cheeks start to heat, as he took another bite of pasta and broke eye contact with Hen.
Fuck.
He’d had a plan. He was going to leave the 118, start anew someplace else, and finally stop lying to everyone around him, the way he had finally stopped lying to himself. He had decided it would be easier to be open with new people who didn’t really know him before; someplace he didn’t have a history.
But then his transfer had fallen through, and he’d had to add an extra year or so onto the timeline he’d set himself.
But maybe this was the Universe’s way of making sure he stuck to that timeline, regardless. This kid’s adorable awkward confidence and Tommy’s apparent inability to mask his reaction to it was going to be the thing to out him. He could feel it in the flush of his cheeks and the beating of his heart, in the smile he couldn’t seem to drop as Evan began his next sentence with Did you know..?
He looked back up from his plate, and over to Evan again, letting his macho mask fall as Evan’s face lit into an excited smile at one of Chimney’s dramatized stories of their saves.
Tommy wondered if, maybe, he was in the right place too.
