i've had this ask sitting in my drafts since like august BECAUSE i knew if i did the question justice it was gonna get VERY long and pretty personal - if i'm gonna talk about it then i gotta talk about it in all earnest. and you've given me the floor to talk about it. so!!

at first i had these typed out as two separate points but i think they go a lot more hand-in-hand than that, so to start - when i think about my own gender and why i can't bring myself to identify fully with womanhood a lot of it is because there's something that feels so free about masculinity. mostly just like because of womanhood on a societal level a lot of my experience as a girl forever has been "you need to think about how your existence makes other people feel. you really need to present yourself in a way that's pleasant for other people. the way you look, the way you talk, the way you conduct yourself - people are entitled to having a say in all that. and if any of that isn't living up to the way it's supposed to be, then that's a fault of yours." here's a vent post i made when i was 17:

which is mostly really superficial examples of the suffocating expectation of girlhood but it's also so blatantly about bkg. in the moment my thought process was more like "i'm so deeply unsatisfied with so many parts of being a girl, it sounds like there'd be so many less people to answer to if i were a boy" but it's funny reading back on it bc it's like "dude are you just talking about bkg". but then who's a better example of choosing to stomp through life exactly as loud and rude as he wants to be without answering to anyone than bakugou katsuki!! honest about his thoughts in any case!! free to speak as bluntly and rudely as he wants!! never putting up with shit that makes him feel unlike himself!! walks with big wide steps and wears stupid baggy clothes and doesn't care what people have to say about it and doesn't feel worse if they do disagree. grins crazy blasting himself through the air. fights with big windup swings and shouts all the while. huge huge presence and so unafraid to assert it. named himself great・explosion・murder・god dynamight. i think i project a big sense of defiance onto bkg's character because everything he is just feels so defiant to me. there's just a lot that i admire about boyhood and bkg feels like the embodiment of it to me

and then you've got bkg himself, who like- isn't even fulfilling the "doesn't feel worse about himself if he is genuinely not the greatest or kindest" part of it!! bkg's character is so centered around figuring out who he is and like navigating through the mortifying ordeal of existing and not actually liking the person you are and trying to figure out where to go from there- he really thinks he has so much to prove...both in the sense that he DOES want to project this big image and also that he really can't cut himself a break. and then he freaks out when he's not becoming the person he wants to be and picks a fight with deku over it and totally breaks down and picks himself back up and forces himself to seriously rewire the entire view of himself and others that he's had his entire life - he's 16 - and goes to all this teeth-clenching effort to be a better person and has highs and lows and wears himself raw and then comes back to life. well the quality of the later part of his arc is very debatable. but his character is so about just figuring out who he is and kind of failing at it a lot of the time. and then eventually figuring it out and getting confident and stable in it. he makes friends who rib on him because they know he's got a good heart under it all, and moreover he lets them. he gets good at shouting something back and carrying on. you see the amount of conscious thinking it takes him to take some of those steps - rethinking his relationship with deku, the god am i really fucking doing this scoff before he gives kirishima back the money - but a lot of it is just steady growth. growing up. genuinely getting more comfortable and more okay with himself over time. but there's also all these little failures along the way because he's just a kid figuring it out, and also genuinely this anger towards the world for not understanding it when he does assert himself (sports festival....where deku also specifically notes that he knows he's not as confident as he wants to be!)

i haven't really closely reread bnha in a sec so a lot of this is probably a lot of projecting (i know it's undeniably influenced by the picture of bkg i have in my head) and i probably also didn't really clarify anything, because in the end everything bakugou is feels very trans to me. "the image you have of bkg katsuki in your head can actually be so personal" etc. digging into my archives i found this post from years back where i described basically the same stuff about bkg being a teen figuring himself out and saying "so yeah he's trans" without being able to hit it more on the head. kirishima is my favorite most special boy of all time, and i love him in so many ways, but bkg is my cringefail stinky teen boy in w the unshatterable determination to actually go MAKE himself the person he wants to be, no matter how many missteps he makes on the way there. it brings me a lot of comfort to imagine him being a self-made man as a part of the because gender is so confusing and questioning can be so intense. i'm 23 and i'm typing all this about an anime boy so i hope it's evident what a soul-bearingly honest answer this is bc otherwise oh haha embarrassing. but yeah i love that kid. i hope every little victory and day where his voice sounds good to him and glance of his top scars in the mirror feels like one of the high points on the journey

I've been getting a lot of different comments and responses to the bullying in Japan post. It would be a little difficult for me to respond to all of them, but I didn't want to just leave them unanswered because I think many of them express some important sentiments.

A lot of people wanted to add the discussion of punitive versus restorative justice to the fray. I just wanted to say about that I am very much in favor of restorative justice over punitive, though I know it's a more complicated matter than just that, but I didn't really feel it was relevant to the post I was making at the time. I don't think as many readers are at that point in the discussion yet, but I do think it's a good point. Most of all, I just wanted everyone to start thinking about reading stories with an open mind about culture and context and also for them to start recognizing their own biases.

What upsets me in this context is that some people have a formula in their heads of how a story should go as opposed to just how they think it might go. I dislike a lot of USA media, and yet I'm surrounded by it on all sides. In my social life, one of the easiest topics of conversation for meeting new people is movies and TV. It's not a great starting-point for me how I essentially have to resort to saying things like "I just don't like most movies," or "I haven't seen a movie in theaters in years," or "I don't watch American television," or "I don't like American comic books." And a lot of my feelings boil down to the American movie formulas, how the art and creativity are often stripped away, how America loves to paint itself as the land of free expression and yet most of the popular expression all conform to one line of thinking. I love it when I get to experience new perspectives on how stories should go and how one approaches writing them, but the more people react poorly to new stories, the less I'll get to have what I want.

So I'm promoting that now. I like Japanese stories. I like My Hero Academia. I don't agree with every Japanese philosophy or social more or whatever, but I find them fascinating all the same. And I think they provide a perspective that is really good for many western readers to encounter. I just hope more people can be open to it.

Pacing in MHA (spoiler it sucks)

I know there have been a lot of posts about this and while I do very much agree with a lot of these posts I wanted to add my own two cents into this conversation and actually talk about the burning dumpster can that is the pacing of MHA.

Surprisingly and magically Iam supposed to believe that a quirkless boy gets a quirk and that quirk develops into 7 more quirks and he is now fighting in a war that has the greatest of evils that he is supposed to defeat all in the span of 1-2 years. Like I feel like it's genuinely just speed running the plot of all of this and it makes the series feel so rushed at times. However, there are times when Iam reading the manga and it feels like one fight is taking forever to finish so the MHA pacing is wack and all over the place.

This could and should be an easy fix but horikoshi should of given us more breather arc and actually include the academia aspect of MHA because let's be honest Iam not seeing it. The academia aspect would of made things a whole lot better for example we will get more knowledge about the characters, actually develop a found family bond in 1A (instead of it being non existent), develop characters and what they like or struggle at and a whole lot more like actually show us why UA is considered a good school. By including academia arcs in MHA you also sort out the rushed pacing of the story and give the audience and characters time to breathe and relax.

I have seen people say that first years shouldn't go to war and we shouldn't if had a war arc so early on. Yes, I agree with this but I think it would add more if class A and maybe even B would if still had to go to war but later in their hero school journey like early 3rd year or something like that. It would show the commissions corruption and at this point they're old enough to do more impact it would also help create the feelings that the villains are planning a big comeback and that the underworld wants to take over Japan again.

By slowing down the pacing there would also be build up towards the war and a whole lot more world building could of been included which is something that MHA desperately needs. Also, slowing down pacing would benefit the story and allow to build/develop characters and their relationships a whole lot more a big example being shigaraki and Izuku's (non existent relationships) or heck even the parallels between toga and ochako.

Overall, the point stands MHA pacing sucks and feels so out of place.

So, My Hero Academia Chapter 387 (MASSIVE SPOILERS AHEAD)...

That was a really, really good chapter, but hoo boy that fucked me up real bad and I need to get some thoughts off my chest before I go to sleep.  Tumblr is the best place to post this; I’m not spending $8 on Twitter Blue to type this out.

First off, more eugenic stuff yay...  This time with Rei’s family, the Himuras.  So, turns out that Geten (the ice villain following Re-Destro) is a part of that family which means that he’s the Todoroki’s cousin at best.  I think Rei would’ve said something if he was her brother. 

And that the Himura’s have been inbreeding to keep their bloodline “pure” and their ice Quirk in tact...  And forced marriages were also desperate attempts to keep this in check.  UM WHAT THE FUCK, HORIKOSHI???  I’m not saying this is a bad thing story-wise, but it makes the Todoroki Family situation so, so much worse if that was even possible.  And sadly they’re not the only family to do this... 

So, if Rei was a product of inbreeding, then (and correct me if I’m wrong) the Todoroki children are technically inbred too on top of being born out of a quirk marriage to begin with INCLUDING SHOUTO WHO’S BEEN THROUGH ENOUGH (I need to clarify that I’m not criticizing Rei or her kids, it’s not their faults. I’m criticizing the practice of inbreeding itself).  I feel ill just thinking about that.  This is some royal family shit that should never be a thing to begin with.  I don’t care if marrying your 2nd cousin shouldn’t fuck up the kids too badly, it’s still extremely fucked up period!  This is honestly worse than the quirk marriage imo and that was bad enough as it was.  I kind of wish Horikoshi didn’t include this because it’s sadly kind of warpping my perception of them, but I’m not going to fly over to Japan and throw hands with him over it.

And this puts more context into why Rei chose to marry Enji because agreeing to be bought into a marriage with Endeavor to create the perfect offspring with Fire and Ice is somehow better than MARRYING YOUR FUCKING COUSIN AND HAVING A CHILD WITH THEM!  She never had a good choice to begin with; she just chose the best one that was given to her.  God, I feel bad for this woman.

I honestly need a few days to process this because it was dropped so casually and now I need to sit down and think of the implications of it while working on my finals 🥲

Onto Dabi who is fighting his dad with like half of his body remaining.  How the hell this man is alive is a goddamn mystery because he looks like a burning skeleton.  And this whole thing has caused his Quirk to evolve to the point where he’s now producing ICE ❄️!  HE HAS AN ICE QUIRK NOW TOO!  IT’S EXACTLY THE THING ENDEAVOR WANTED THIS WHOLE TIME AND NOW HE HAS IT IN THE WORST WAY POSSIBLE!  I WANT TO SCREAM!  SHOUTO AND DABI ARE REALLY 2 SIDES OF THE SAME COIN! 

There really is no way of knowing if Touya would’ve unlocked this part of his Quirk if he trained more with Endeavor, but the fact that he actually had the potential to become exactly what he was born for is devastating.  He could’ve been what his father wanted him to become, but his Quirk was too dangerous to himself to try.  If this happened, Natsuo and Shouto might not have been born (I’m glad they were born tbh), but at least the family would’ve been spared a shit ton of trauma.

Oh, and it looks like that massive fire punch he threw at Endeavor completely burned off his right arm and now he’s right armless like Endeavor.  That one panel of them “dancing” with right fire arms is haunting.  You could write a whole short essay on that panel.  Horikoshi loves parallels and I do too.

Honestly, I really expected Horikoshi to just kill off Endeavor and Dabi at the same time this chapter.  It looked like that’s where it was going.  There are a lot of ways their fates could be going and I can see it happening all those ways.  Personally, I want them to live at least until Shouto finally gets there.  I think Horikoshi is setting up that “Todoroki Family Reunion” he’s been planning since Chapter 300 or something especially with Rei entering the battle field.  What happens next is something we’ll have to wait for.  I want Endeavor to live honestly.  But, I can definitely see Dabi dying at the end because I really don’t think he’s going to survive at this rate.  Horikoshi cooked him too well 😂😭.

And finally REI TODOROKI!!!  The block or whatever her and her family were being transported in was stopped right below Gunga Mountain last chapter and they were forced to go up to the surface to make sure they avoid Dabi’s fiery explosion.  That’s why she’s up on the surface to begin with.  I do want to know how the hell she got to the battlefield so quickly though.  I don’t see her as a fighter, but maybe she trained her Ice Quirk to glide on it like Shouto does.  I’m really curious to see what she does because she does hold some responsibility for how Dabi turned out and I think she’s trying to atone in a way too.  This better not mean she’s dying though.  I don’t need the Todorokis to deal with more trauma, especially Shouto.

Anyways, there’s a lot to unpack in this chapter and there’s probably more to dive into.  Um, I’m glad to see Mr. Compress again like Horikoshi promised.  He’s probably still assless though.  Where are the 2nd year UA students you promised, sir???  But, yeah, the Todoroki drama continues to be more and more fucked up by the weeks.  Please let this family have peace one day I’m begging  🙏.

Please. If JJK characters' cursed techniques were quirks, they'd all be alive and going to amusement parks and eating crepes.

In the reverse, Midoriya would be a Yuta like drop in considering all of his techniques, maybe, and most of Class 1A would be wiped. Hell, I think we can all agree there are students in Class 1A that shouldn't even be in Class 1A (this is a Minoru Mineta call out, at the very least). But that's also why Jujutsu Tech has a class size that hasn't exceeded 4 students that we've seen. I could see Midoriya, Shinso (cursed speech user), and Tokoyami (shikigami user) in a class. With Todoroki (legacy family + technique) and Bakugo (Todo-esque brute force regardless of technique) over at Kyoto. I'm not saying they'd all survive but I could see it.

MENTAL ACUITY

I think trauma, or one's ability to handle a breadth of it, isn't based on the trauma itself. Even if Midoriya had never experienced loss, he'd repeatedly experienced the inequities of systemic and social oppression from being quirkless compounded by a dad that seemingly peaced out. Kid took hit after hit before being able to have a shot at his dream which he then slowly realized wasn't as cut and dry as it seemed. He keeps on trucking though.

If anything, I think that most characters in JJK are a belt loop getting caught on a door handle away from losing their shit and becoming curse users because of the higher death toll. The students of class 1A might be slowly losing hope but Yuji is constantly swimming in sea of despair, survivor's guilt, and has a 1000 year old curse whispering obscenities to him. For all intents and purposes, kid should be on a watchlist. And you mean to tell me that Megumi "Watch What These Hands Do" Fushiguro is the picture of mental health??? Nah. Buddy has been looking for any opportunity to take a curtain bow with Mahoraga since day 1. Gojo meant what he said when he had to make sure Nobara was crazy in Season 1 because that's what it takes to be a sorcerer if you want to live. You have to be a little deranged so the losses don't take you down the same path as Geto or breed an even bigger problem by generating a curse. The only easy, breezy, beautiful cover girls in JJK are the villains as they are regularly shown to be leisurely enjoying the beach, soccer, mahjong... all while 16 year olds are fighting for their lives and losing.

WINNER TAKE ALL

Plot

Taking into consideration the fact that we're in late stage My Hero Academia and, at best, half way through Jujutsu Kaisen, I think MHA has it on plot. This take is based on being able to now, with most of the story having taken place, see how everything comes together, though. Bear in mind, even at the end of the story, we still don't know how things are going to play out. I've made a lot of wild accusations though (here, here, here, here, here and, inevitably, more are bouncing around my head). What's funny about this is the fact that, there's not really a question of how it's going to end in the grand scheme. We know that Deku will be triumphant in defeating or liberating Shigaraki. I think, through all his subversion, Horikoshi will still write a story where the good guys win. But the subtler details of how the story will end are what everyone's getting fired up about regarding BakuDeku and if anyone will die.

Regarding Jujutsu Kaisen's plot, as readers, we're still too lost in the forest of the culling games to understand the overarching reason. It's still a 5/5 in my book until proven otherwise but, from what we've seen, Gege Akutami buries details that are pertinent later. His exposition style is uniquely different from Horikoshi's (and Iseyama's for that matter). Moreover, Akutami knows how to illicit rage, angst, tears even in the midst of a multi page description of one man's cursed technique (yea, I'm talking about Hikari). They are a troll with a pen and I cannot take that away from them. So, I'm trusting in the process while also acknowledging that this story is not going to echo that of shonen series' before it. Gege Akutami could very well write the end of the human world as we know it, the entirety of the main cast dead, and I wouldn't even be surprised and I would read every. single. panel. Happily.

Art

Again, it's kind of unfair to compare the refined art of a series with 39 volumes versus 24 volumes especially when they stylistically differ so much. So, instead, I'll say what I appreciate for both.

Horikoshi's unique character design, even going so far as to use different illustration styles where appropriate circumvents the issue of Same Face Syndrome while also adding a lot of dynamic visual texture to the cast. Also, hands are like a big part of the story? Which he's managed to make a focal point where it matters. I will also say that he has, in recent chapters, delved into the horror aesthetic beautifully.

Gege Akutami is just a silly little guy. By that, I mean, there will be these AMAZING spreads or panels. Then, on the very next panel or page, there will be a silly lil doodle and it doesn't even feel out of place. In fact, it's very on par with Yuji as a character. I don't think this story is told from Yuji's limited perspective where MHA is largely from Deku's POV, but, when Gege breaks down the behind the scenes, it's broken down as if it's for someone as simple as Yuji. Stylistically gory but also humorous, there are definitely some chapters that are perhaps churned out faster than others, but the art still speaks for itself.

BATTLE OF THE SHIPS

This is a hard one in the sense that BakuDeku is being explored in real time, at length whereas SatoSugu we've only gotten wisps of even though they are, foundationally, what sets off the entire chain of events that sets the story for JJK. There's something to be said for wanting and I think what makes SatoSugu so compelling is truly the tragedy of it. Gojo lost his only equal, his everything (which Geto never thought himself to be) and Geto lost his everloving mind. MHA's whole story is hinged on BakuDeku but the brainrot for SatoSugu decays so poignantly because, while both series are effectively about child soldiers trying to stay alive, SatoSugu is the after. What happens when youth aren't protected, what do they lose?

FINAL VERDICT

Just because you can read them both in Shonen Jump does not mean they're a monolith.

Considering they aren't actually in the same genre, it makes no sense to compare the two. They may have some similarities. But that's like saying a horse is similar to a cow because they are animals with four legs and tails.

It makes more sense to compare JJK to the other two unhinged stories that make up the dark trio, "Chainsaw Man" or "Hell's Paradise: Jigokuraku" because the stakes are the same. Anyone can die. For the most part, there aren't miraculous revivals (like Best Jeanist and whoever else 👀).

A/N: I don't care, I know Nobara's coming back if only for Gege to kill her again.

List of ships I think should be canon due to story setup & chemistry (But I also appreciate that the story would focus on plot more than a relationship. Don’t always agree with how these characters are written at certain points though)

Rukia x Ichigo (BLEACH) Two misfits with a death wish from different worlds who find each other and learn how to live. Rukia gives Ichigo closure and reconnection with his estranged family that kept secrets from him, along with giving him closure with his mother. Ichigo teaches Rukia, a soul reaper who never got a chance to live IRL, a soup reaper part of the cold-blooded Kuchiki family, how to live. While Rukia teaches Ichigo about the new aspects of death and all the ghosts he’s been surrounded by as a child that he’s never understood before now. They’re two sides of the same coin. The hero and the heroine of the series.

(Also Orihime x Uryuu from BLEACH because they both lost a beloved family member when they were young and have been living alone ever since. They're both fantastic seamstresses, they believe in each other when no one else does, they've protected each other, and they spend a majority of a season together. Uryu drops everything to save her in season 2, and he has the most chemistry and reason to do so outside of anyone else. Orihime often compliments him and makes him blush too.)

Blake x Sun (RWBY) Both faunus with somewhat opposite personalities that play off each other. Blake is a broody book worm while Sun is almost a literal ray of sunshine. He has a few flirty moments with her. He follows her home knowing she tends to run off by herself, challenging her fear of hurting others I think? He spends a good season assisting her in tracking down her old terrorist group and even meets her parents. She kisses him on the cheek after they depart. Good friends with the potential for something more (If they were written a little more consistently.... its been a while since I watched RWBY so I might revise my opinions later)

Ruby x Oscar (RWBY) It's Red Riding Hood’s silver eyes (aka silver slippers) for Dorothy’s salvation. To help her get home. The analogy and parallels behind their stories are fascinating. They’re both the youngest of the group with the heaviest burdens on their shoulders. So far they’ve been pretty cute, wholesome, and over all supportive of each other.

Izuku x Ochaco (My Hero Academia) Not a big fan of this show but it's the first canonical (?) shounen pairing that has actual chemistry to me. Izuku is a good friend to her and gets flustered when she's close to him. They both give each other great Christmas gifts to showcase they know each other well. Where Ochaco is actually useful and supportive and has a crush on Izuku but has goals and friends outside of him, and both of them prefer to focus on a career rather than have time for a romance during the series.

Charlie x Alastor (Hazbin Hotel) I won’t disrespect Charlie x Vaggie, but Vaggie shoots down Charlie’s ideas and personality. She doesn’t partake in the singing, dancing, or the hopeful and innocent attitude. She’s bossy and nonindulgent of Charlie, albeit simply because she wants to protect her and reel in her ideas. Alastor on the other hand is just as eccentric and carefree. They’re both charmers, centers of attention. Performance artists. Alastor has the potential to corrupt Charlie while Charlie has the potential to purify Alastor. We could see a relationship develop onscreen, where as Charlie and Vaggie are pre-established and unlikely to get attention drawn to how they actually ended up as a couple. Even Viv herself initially claimed it “just happened over time as they started out as friends”, even though Vaggie was originally Angel’s girlfriend, believe it or not. Charlie and Vaggie are the main and only ship for Hazbin though. I just don’t care about them as much as I would if Charlie had something develop with Alastor.

Stolas x Blitz (Helluva Boss before season 2) Scumbag disasters. Prince and the Pauper. Cheaters. Liars. Unhappy guys with romantic baggage issues. Start off as work-fuckbuddies but start falling in love and then at that moment, everything falls apart around them. It's messy, its bloody, its angsty, there were staKES, I'm SO SMAD-

The Harry Potter series isn’t something I’m a dedicated fan of, especially after Rowling, but Harry x Hermoine made way more sense to me from the movies. Scorpius x Albus in the Cursed Child was rectified; the subtext hints it's now canon which thank god they fixed because Scorpius x Rose was terrible. Albus had a crush on Delphi which, yeah, who wouldn’t have a crush on Ebony Darkness Dementia Raven Way? But I prefer those two probably as a brotp. Delphi has lesbian vibes(and she’s over a decade older than Albus, so). Albus Potter befriending his dad's enemies? Like it's great. It breaks the cycle. It's a new beginning. A new family. All the HP kids being gay/LGBTQ+ is just really funny to me. Fuck you, Rowling (There’s an HP crackship I actually like a… lot, but I’m too embarrassed to say what it is aloud. It's a spicy angsty unhealthy ship...)

Otherwise crack ships: White Zangetsu x Black Tensa (BLEACH) Angel God vs. Devil God enemies turned roommates. One is feral and the other is reserved but both are equally dangerous and creepy in their own right. (used to like Ichigo x Zangetsu but now I’ve kinda lost interest because Ichigo’s personality changed. Otherwise interchangeable GrimmjowxZangetsuxIchigo I guess. And Harribel x Neliel. Sweet & silent level 3 Espada girls. Neliel is the gal Harri’s missing for her group. She deserves another queen at her side!)

Roxas x Vanitas (Kingdom Hearts) Also don't mind these two also just being a platonic brotp. But Roxas and Vanitas are both remnants of Sora & Ventus with faces that aren't their own. They both can summon monstrous beings, they've been through pain, and they've always been second to someone else. They were both manipulated and lied to. They both wanted access to Kingdom Hearts for power, for a wish to be whole again in one way or another. They're both half of someone else and this makes them struggle with their identities. Roxas however has a joy for life. He has friends and jobs to keep him busy. Vanitas on the other hand hates life. He has nothing to live for because he's always in so much pain and thinks friends would drag him down. Roxas wants life and freedom. Vanitas wants death and/or fusion. Two kins with opposite desires. Could they save each other or destroy each other? There's so much dramatic potential here. Literary gold.

Namine x Xion (Kingdom Hearts) Wish these girls had more personality and chemistry, but I think they've got a gothic x pastel prep vibe going on. Xion was a puppet controlled by the Organization and Namine was controlled by the same Organization, just a different branch and for a somewhat different reason. Xion can copy & steal powers and Namine can rearrange memories, making them both potentially scary if they were to fight back together. I think they are the only two that would ever understand each other.

(Dib x Zim ..??? or just Brotp because of reasons like Roxas x Vanitas. Basically two opposite beings with similar upbringing or social status, both arrogant hotheads with unmatched intellect. All they want is approval, acceptance, and praise. Which they will never receive from their worlds that reject them. They are the only ones who take each other seriously. When Dib gives up on paranormal hunting, Zim becomes depressed and rots away in his house until Dib returns. Zim even seeks Dib’s help with sabotaging Tak & the Planet Jackers. They could be great friends, if they weren’t on opposite sides. If they joined forces, they’d be unstoppable. Jack Frost x Pitch Black (Rise of the Guardians) Also don't mind them being just brotp. Both lonely and lost in their bleak immortal lives, rejected by everyone else around them. Their powers can be dangerous to children if given the wrong influence, like Pitch's. In the books, they both share a similar past. Both were warriors of light. A light that flickered out and changed them into what they are now due to a tragic loss of some kind. Jack is youthful, silly, but observant while Pitch is old, dramatic, and charming. It's like giving your old dog a new puppy. At first they're annoyed, but then they slowly start being more active to play with the puppy? Not sure that's a good analogy. But Pitch said what goes together better than "cold and dark", while "fear and fun" work just as well together. Thrill rides & Halloween? A lot of adrenaline junkies out there would love what these two could come up with together.

Lost my mind at the Jevil x Spamton (Deltarune) shenanigans, implying they’re divorced exes. It’s so funny. Otherwise Jevil x Seam, estranged magicians is pretty nice too.

Chapter 13- The Sports Festival, Part 5:

"THE EIGHT AND FINAL BATTLE OF THE FIRST ROUND OF MATCHES! HE WAS KIND OF A HOT SHOT IN MIDDLE SCHOOL, AND JUST LOOK AT THAT DETERMINED FACE! FROM THE HERO COURSE, KATSUKI BAKUGO! VERSUS THE ONE I'M PERSONALLY ROOTING FOR, ALSO FROM CLASS 1-A, OCHACO URARAKA!"

"You're not supposed to be biased, Mic Sensei..." I shook my head, though I couldn't lie, I was rooting for Ochaco too....

"LET THE EIGHT MATCH... BEGIN!"

I sat nervously as I watched the fight between Ochaco and Bakugo. There was only one way I could think of Ochaco to win: Activating her quirk on him. But, in order to do that, she'd have to get within point blank range, and there was no way Bakugo would let her get close enough to do it. I watched as she stayed low to the ground, charging Bakugo the entire time even though he kept blasting her back over and over again. I knew Iida and Midoriya were probably talking about the strategy Midoriya had in mind for Ochaco. I wasn't listening though. I was watching Bakugo mostly. Midoriya had told us himself during the Battle Training, when it comes to close combat, there were almost no openings from the blond. And because of his quirk, the more he moves, the more he sweats. The more he sweats, the more powerful he is. He can also use his explosions to move around in the air...

I watched as Uraraka charged Bakugo, getting blasted back by the blond. "URARAKA!" Iida and Midoriya shouted at the same time. Jirou gasped, covering her ears.

"He blasted her!" Mineta stated the obvious.

"Looks like Bakguo's not planning on showing her any mercy." Asui brought up as she watched. I watched the way Bakugo fought, never moving from his spot.

"You should have dropped outta the match. There's no way you can beat me!" He finally launched toward where we'd seen Uraraka last before the smoke from the first blast covered her, but when it cleared, his hand was on her jacket. I stood up, watching Uraraka move in behind him. 

"WHOA! SHE FLEW HER JACKET OVER AS A DECOY! WHAT INCREDIBLY QUICK THINKING!" Present Mic announced as we watched. Come on, Ochaco, you got this! I thought, gripping the railing. But, just as Uraraka reached out to use her Quirk on him, he turned and blasted her with a yell, making her yelp.

"Look at that reaction time!" Sero exclaimed.

"Seriously, this dude's insane." Kaminari agreed. "You can't get the drop on him, and since Uraraka can't use her Quirk unless she touches him, his lightning fast reflexes put her at a huge disadvantage." Bakugo cleared the smoke with his hand again before Uraraka charged again.

"Too slow!" Bakugo blasted her again, this time kicking up rubble. That was when I noticed the pieces of rubble already floating above Bakugo. Once again, she used the smoke to appear behind him. 

"I've got you!" She shouted. I face palmed. She shouldn't have yelled for a sneak attack... I heard Bakugo blast her again before looking up again.

"Is she okay?" Tsu asked. Jirou covered her face.

"I can't watch this!" She must have moved her hands at some point, because her next words were directed at me. "Hino, how can you watch this?!" Jirou asked.

"Because she's not doing this blindly... She has a plan." I answered.

"How do you know?" Midoriya asked.

"Look for yourself." I replied, choosing not to tell him. He was observant, he could figure it out by himself.

"Like I suspected... Bakugo's a total sadist." Mineta mused.

"One more word out of you, grapehead and I'll burn you to ashes." I threatened before turning back to the fight. It continued like that for a while, Uraraka keeping low to the ground as she  attacked only to get blasted every time by Bakugo, rubble being kicked up by the blasts and floating above him behind smoke screens before Uraraka's next attacks.. But, for how observant Bakugo seemed to be, he didn't seem to notice that part.

"Looks like she's not resting between attacks despite being exploded, the poor girl." Present Mic sounded worried about Uraraka. You've got the best seat for the action in the house, how the hell can you not see what's going on?! I glared up at Present Mic. It didn't seem like the other pros did either, because one of them started an uproar of boos that made both of them stop. "THE CROWD IS NOW BOOING BAKUGO! And honestly, I kinda agree with what they're sayin-" The sound of a hit came from the microphone. Sounds like Aizawa Sensei was finally getting involved. "HEY, WHOA, WHAT THE CRAP?!" 

"Where's the man that started this uproar?! Are you a pro?! Because if you're serious, you can go home and hang up your cape! I'd suggest looking into another career!" Aizawa defended our classmate.

"You know what he's talking about?" Midoriya meekly asked. 

"Look above Bakugo." I pointed out, not looking at my friend, but getting sick of Midoriya not getting it.

"Bakugo's fierceness is an acknowledgement of his opponent's strength. He knows she deserves to have made it this far, so he's making sure he does whatever it takes to keep her at bay and come out on top." He continued. Aizawa really understands him more than anyone ever thought...

"I think... It's about time." Uraraka spoke, and I saw Bakugo tense. "Thank you, Bakugo... For keeping your eyes focused on me!" 

"What?" Bakugo's confusion was obvious, and it was absolutely hilarious. That was the moment everyone else noticed what I had seen from the beginning... Uraraka released her Quirk with a yell, causing the rubble, a crap ton of it, to fall. 

"A METEOR SHOWER?!"

"Now you notice..." Aizawa trailed off. Midoriya stood up.

"Hey, she had a plan all along!" He shouted as he stood beside me.

"That's why I knew she had a plan." I told our classmates. Bakugo's attention was diverted above him as Ochaco charged him one last time. But, with one big blast, he took out the meteor shower she'd created, and the force of the blast knocked her to the ground.

"I knew you'd have some kind of stupid plan to beat me... You are friends with that damn nerd, after all." Ochaco looked almost scared.

"It took him one shot..."

"BAKUGO BANGS OUT A HUGE DEMONSTRATION OF POWER! HE BLASTED APART URARAKA'S FINISHING MOVE AND REMAINS UNTOUCHED!" Present Mic, but I could have sworn I heard Baukgo mumble something under his breath along the lines of:

"That was close..." We watched as Ochaco shakily got up. 

"Ochaco..." I murmured as I watched her. She could barely stand, but she wasn't giving up. She had just as much of a fighting spirit as Midoriya did...

"All right, then. Time for us to get serious, Uraraka!" Bakugo grinned as he charged for her. She turned to face him, but one step forward and she collapsed. No... Bakugo stopped in place as she hit the ground.

"She's so exhausted she can't stay upright..." I trailed off worriedly. 

"URARAKA IS DOWN!" Present Mic announced. She was struggling to move at this point. The look on her face screamed that she wanted to keep going.

"It's too much." Iida spoke up.

"Yeah, she's way past her limit..." Midoriya replied. I moved away from the railing, heading toward the exit.

"Yagi, where are you going?" Iida asked me.

"I have to get down there. When she's taken to Recovery Girl's office, Uraraka'll need my healing power. Recovery Girl's uses the body's energy, but due to attacking Bakugo over and over and exhausting herself, she has no energy for Recovery Girl to use to heal any injuries. She needs my healing tears if she's injured." I answered, not sparing Iida a glance as I walked away. But, I didn't tell them the real reason... Ochaco was so much like me, I held onto the thought that Uraraka could claim victory over him by taking that chance, but neither of us had expected Bakugo to pull the move he did, and I knew she would need support when she woke up...

"You don't learn anything, do you?" I was startled out of my thoughts by Todoroki. I smiled a bit. 

"I guess not." I replied. It fell silent as Todoroki fell in stride with me again, no sound but our footsteps walking together. We both heard Present Mic lacklusterly announce Bakugo as the winner. "He really has to quit being biased..." I shook my head. We got there before Uraraka, thankfully.

"I'll wait outside for you." He told me. I smiled and shook my head. 

"I'm probably gonna head back with Uraraka after, we'll be okay. Besides, you have a match to prepare for. I'll see you in the finals." I replied. He seemed to hesitate for a second before he nodded, still looking unsure as he walked away. As soon as I entered to office, I had about two seconds to move out of the way as the bots brought Uraraka inside.

"Oh, dear... I'm glad you're here to help me. Let's put those healing tears to good use. I suppose it's a good thing she only has bruises and scratches, but due to her overdoing things, her body has no energy." Recovery Girl told me. I smiled a bit.

"I thought she could use my help, our healing powers work differently." I watched as the bots got her onto a bed. Recovery Girl smiled.

"Yes, but all in all, our powers have the same goal, and that's helping the body recover." She replied. I nodded in agreement before using a healing tear on Uraraka. It took a second, but her injuries began to heal. I breathed in relief as I leaned back in my seat. 

"You were really worried about her, weren't you?" 

"Heh... She's a little too much like me for my liking..." I trailed off. Midoriya was learning to be that way from Dad, but Ochaco? 

"Midoriya's up to fight next against Todoroki, dear. Once she wakes up, why don't the two of you go grab your seats?" Recovery Girl told me. I nodded.

"We'll see what she wants to do." I replied. Well, once she got up, we walked to the waiting room she had used to get her phone, which is where we met up with Midoriya.

"Man, I lost. Too bad." Ochaco rubbed the back of her neck, Midoriya looking shocked that she was still being positive. "Guess I got a little carried away thinking I had it in the bag... Dang it!" 

"You seem fine. But... Weren't you inured?" He asked as he closed the door behind him. 

"Yeah, Hino and Recovery Girl took care of me." She told him. Her face then turned frustrated. "Jeez, I didn't realize how powerful that Bakugo was! He wiped the ring with me! Now I realize just how much more training I have to do!" They were both quiet for a minute.

"You sure you're good?" Midoriya hesitatingly asked. 

"Oh yeah, totally. I'm better than I expected!" Uraraka's phone began to vibrate, but I couldn't see the caller id. She held the phone to her heart. "Even if you've lost, you always keep looking ahead to what's next, Deku. This just means that I have to work harder now."

"That's true..." Midoriya trailed off before all three of us looked up as Present Mic's voice rang out from above us.

"WA-HOO! WE'RE FINALLY ABOUT TO LEARN WHO THE TRUE WINNER IS OF THE SEVENTH MATCH! KIRISHIMA OR TETSUTETSU! WHOEVER PREVAILS ON THIS ARM WRESTLING MATCH WILL ADVANCE TO THE SECOND ROUND! LET"S GO!" Present Mic commentated. Least he wasn't biased now... After a few minutes, Present Mic spoke up again. "NOW WE'VE GOT A FULL ROSTER FOR THE NEXT ROUND OF THE TOURNAMENT! LET'S GET THE PARTY STARTED NOW, YA DIG?!"

"Already?" Midoriya asked before looking at Ochaco with a small smile. "Later." Ochaco got up, looking guilty.

"Oh, I'm sorry, Deku! You weren't able to prepare since I was here!" She apologized.

"Nah, this was perfect." The reply made her smile back.

"I'll be watching. Good luck out there." She told him. He smiled.

"Thanks." He replied before he walked out. I looked at her.

"Coming?" I asked. She nodded.

"I just have to make a call real quick. Do you mind giving me a second?" She responded. I nodded.

"I'll be right outside if you need me." I told her before leaving the room. As I waited for her, I could hear her talking to her Dad, which made my mind wander to my Mom. I'd seen her pictures, of her not having a scar over her eye when she was my age, but as far as I remember, she had a scar over her right eye. If I remembered it right, she'd told me she got the scar in a fight before I was born, but... Who did that to her? I frowned. Now that I remember, she had scars all over her and would tell me to be careful with those spots... Did she go through the same thing I did? That thought worried me. My mother? Being abused? The same woman who fought so hard to protect everyone else? The same Pro Hero who was in the top 5 back in her day and was on the same level of fighting as All Might had been abused? I couldn't wrap my head around it... My Mom had always beaten any villain she went up against...

"Hino? Are you okay?" Ochaco's voice brought me out of my thoughts.

"Oh, yeah, I'm fine." I smiled at her. "We should get back to the others before the next match starts." I told her, leading the way. We passed by Endeavor, though I didn't spare the Flame Hero a second glance. I was a little surprised to see that the match hadn't started once we got to the others though.

"So the match hasn't started yet?" Ochaco asked, making Tokoyami and Iida look at her, Iida recoiling a bit.

"Something horrible's happened to your eyes! You need to go see Recovery Girl!" He exclaimed.

"I already did, this is from... Something else."

"Ah, of course!" Iida exclaimed as she sat down between him and Tokoyami while I sat on Iida's other side. "If I were you, I'd be frustrated too..."

"You did lose to Yagi after all, Iida." Tokoyami reminded him.

"You put up a hard fight, though!" I quickly added, looking at our Class Rep before he could say anything or get downcast.

"But, it's no time to wallow. Use this next fight as a source of encouragement." Tokoyami replied.

"Will do." Uraraka replied, and I looked at our Class Rep, who looked struck.

"You're so wise..." He mused in a quiet voice, making me laugh a bit. The torches ignited again on the arena.

"I CAN FEEL THE ANTICIPATION IN THE STADIUM! AND THAT'S BECAUSE THE SECOND ROUND'S FIRST MATCH IS GONNA BE EPIC! IT'S THE GUY WHO WON HIS LAST FIGHT BY A LANDSLIDE AND LITERALLY LEFT HALF THE AUDIENCE FROZEN! THE HERO COURSE'S SHOTO TODOROKI! AND THIS KID ALMOST WALKED OUT OF HIS FIRST MATCH UP, BUT MADE A STUNNING COMEBACK BY SHOWING OFF SOME IMPRESSIVE MOVES! ALSO FROM THE HERO COURSE, IZUKU MIDORIYA!"

"Here we go..." I trailed off, on the edge of my seat already.

"Tokoyami, how do you think this match will go?" Iida asked.

"It depends on whether or not Midoriya is able to get close to him." Tokoyami answered.

"Yeah, that's the problem. How will Deku avoid the ice?" She questioned. 

"Either way, the intensity between them is so thick at the moment that you could cut it with a knife..." I trailed off. 

"BOTH OF THE HEROES-IN-TRAINING HAVE BEEN FRONT RUNNERS IN THE SPORTS FESTIVAL! BUT WHICH ONE OF THESE RIVALS WILL ADVANCE TO THE NEXT ROUND?! PREPARE FOR... MIDORIYA VERSUS TODOROKI!" I watched as they both got into ready stances before the call was made. "BEGIN!" As soon as Present Mic started the match, ice came from Todoroki while Midoriya fired up One For All and used it the smash the ice. When the ice broke, it sent it back toward him, having to use more ice behind him so he wouldn't slide out of bounds. "WOW! MIDORIYA MANAGED TO BREAK TODOROKI'S INSANE OPENING MOVE!"

"And broke his finger in the process, that idiot..." I mumbled under my breath as I watched. To my annoyance, it kept going on like that a couple more times with Todoroki sending ice barrage after ice barrage and Midoriya breaking each of his fingers to counter it. Is he trying to piss off Recovery Girl?!

"Oh, no, crap!" I looked behind me to see that Kirishima had come back. "I'm missing it!" He ran forward until he was standing next to where Bakugo, Sero and Kaminari were all seated. 

"Hey, nice job making it to the second round, Kirishima." Kaminari told him.

"Thanks, man. Looks like I take down Bakugo next." Kirishima put his hand on his hip as he looked at the blond, who was more focused on the fight.

"I'll kill you." Bakugo bluntly told him, making me shake my head. 

"Yeah, sure, in your dreams. No, but seriously, it's crazy how you and Todoroki both have moves that blast the whole stadium! Must be pretty nice."

"Plus, you don't have to pause between attacks." Sero piped up. 

"It's not as easy as you think it is, guys." I got up and walked over to them. 

"If you overuse your muscles, you risk tearing them apart. If you sprint too much, you run out of breath, idiots."

"What he's trying to say is that we all have our limits, Bakugo and Todoroki included." 

"Quirks are physical abilities too. They can get worn out, you can't just use them nonstop." Bakugo finished. 

"It makes sense when you guys put it that way... I wonder if that's how Midoriya thinks he's gonna beat Todoroki..." Kirishima replied. Definitely doesn't look like he has a plan... He couldn't collect data on Todoroki since his moves are too fast... I thought. 

"TODOROKI WITHSTOOD MIDORIYA'S POWER AND IS NOW RUSHING HIS CLASSMATE!" I watched as Todoroki ran up an ice ramp to get air, causing Midoriya to break another one of his fingers to break the ramp, but Todoroki had already gotten in the air. Midoriya was barely able to dodge in time to dodge Todoroki's landing and the ice it brought, but his foot getting caught in the ice... which he resorted to breaking his arm to get free of! But, when I looked closer at Todoroki, he looked like he had frost on him... 

"If Todoroki doesn't use his fire this match, he'll end up freezing his entire body over just to prove a point..." I mumbled, and judging by the look on Midoriya's face, he saw it too... 

"With your hands like, that, you can't fight anymore, can you?" Todoroki spoke, everyone able to hear him because of it being so quiet. "Why don't we end this?" He sent another ice attack Midoriya's way.

"WHOA! TODOROKI CONTINUES HIS OVERWHELMING ATTACKS! COULD THIS BE HIS FINISHING MOVE?!" Present Mic commentated.

"I AM NOT DONE YET!" He shouted. 

"Don't even think about it, you damn..." I didn't even get to finish my sentence before he used his already broken finger to break the ice again! This time, Todoroki had slid back all the way to the other side of the arena, and would have gone out of bounds if he didn't put up ice for himself in time. "That idiot..." I trailed off as I watched. 

"Why are you going this far?" Todoroki asked.

"You're trembling, Todoroki. It's easy to forget that Quirks are physical abilities, and that means... There's a limit to the cold your body can take, right? I get it. Usually, you'd make up for the drop in temperature by using the heat on your left side, but now you're refusing to do that. Listen, we're all giving it our all... To try and win... To make our dreams into a reality, to become number one! You think you can win with half your strength?! Look at me, Todoroki! You haven't managed to out a single scratch on me yet! SO COME AT ME WITH ALL YOU'VE GOT!" It was dead quiet for a minute.

"Midoriya... What're you trying to do here? You want my fire?! What, did my monster of a Dad bribe you or something?! NOW, I'M MAD!" Todoroki ran forward, rushing towards Midoriya. His movements are slower... I thought, and seeing the look on Bakugo's face, he was seeing it too. Just as Todoroki's right foot left the ground, Midoriya rushed forward toward him and once he was close enough...

"A SOLID PUNCH!" Todoroki managed to get a little ice on Midoriya's arm, but he went flying from the punch Midoriya gave him in the gut. "THAT'S THE KIND OF ACTION I LIKE TO SEE!" The ice barrage kept going as soon as Todoroki stood up, but they were slower, which allowed Midoriya to dodge it, so Todoroki tried a close range ice attack, which Midoriya broke free from again. It kept going like that, the boys trading blows back and forth... In a way, Todoroki was my equal and opposite. We both had fire, but he had ice to cool himself down and vice versa. There was a limit to how much of my own flames my body could take, meanwhile his was built for the quirk he had. Learning how to handle my own flames was something i always struggled with, hence why I had always used other fire if there was any around h=me, or i did shorter training sessions when it came to focusing on my flames.

"WHY ARE YOU PUTTING YOURSELF THROUGH THIS?!" Todoroki asked again.

"I want to live up to people's expectations. I wanna be able to smile while doing something good for them! I wanna be a pro! WHATEVER IT TAKES TO BE A HERO!" He headbutted Todoroki in the gut, kinda reminding me of a ram if I'm being honest... "THAT'S WHY I'LL GIVE IT MY ALL, JUST LIKE YOU SHOULD BE! There's no way I could know what you've gone through, or why you're even here. Your life has been so much different from mine, but right now, stop screwing around! If you wanna reject your father, fine, but you don't have the right to be number one if you aren't going to use your full power!"

"Shut up!"

"THAT'S WHY I'M GOING TO WIN THIS! I'LL SURPASS YOU!" He punched Todoroki in the gut a third time. 

"I refuse... to use my left side." What Midoriya said next, I'll never forget...

"IT'S YOURS! YOUR QUIRK, NOT HIS!" He was driving home the point I was trying to make to him during the side games... All of a sudden, Todoroki's side flared up, erupting into flames. 

"IS THAT-?!"

"He's using his fire!" Ochaco gasped. 

"Incredible..." Iida murmured. Little by little, the frost on him melted away. 

"You're helping your opponent... You fool. Even though, you wanna win this battle. Now which one of us is screwing around? I want it too! I'll be a hero!" Todoroki replied.

"YES, SHOTO!" Endeavor's voice broke through the crowd. Shut up, you old idiot... I thought, glaring to where I saw the glow of Endeavor's flames coming from. "Have you finally accepted your purpose?! That's it. Very good. This is the dawn of a new era for us! With my blood in your veins, you'll surpass me! You will live up to the reason I created you!" The more he spoke, the more I could feel the heat of my hair rising. Even Present Mic seemed confused, but Endeavor was just pissing me off at this point.

"Amazing..." 

"Why are you smiling? With those injuries, in this hopeless situation, you must be crazy. Don't blame me for what happens next." He started using his ice and fire at the same time, while Midoriya used One For All in his legs. 

"THAT'S IT, MIDNIGHT, HIS BODY WON'T HOLD UP!" Cementoss shouted. "One of them could be killed!"

"His body won't hold up!" Both teachers activated their quirk at the same time as the flames on my hair went out, my worry for Midoriya taking over my rage at Endeavor for the moment. I watched as Midoriya flew through the air, propelled by the force of One For All, while Todoroki readied a blast of fire.

"I see now, Midoriya... Thank you." I heard Todoroki say before the two clashed into the cement wall, the impact kicking up a huge gust of wind, though if it was from the sudden mixture of cold and hot air or if it was from One For All, I didn't know for sure... Koda was barely able to grab Mineta as he flew upward.

"HOLY CRAP BALLS!" Mineta yelped.

"THIS IS CRAZY!" Kaminari exclaimed.

"What's happening down there?!" Yayorozu asked. I looked for any sign of the boys as a smoke filled the stadium, but with it being so thick, I couldn't see much.

"Having a great power doesn't mean you'll be a good hero. But, these two are amazing." Cementoss commented.

"What happened just now?! What the heck is up with ya students?!" I could barely make out Present Mic's boots sticking up from the window. Did he get knocked off his ass by that blast?

"Th air around the ring had been thoroughly cooled down, and then rapidly expanded when heated up." Aizawa cooly answered. Present Mic jumped to his feet.

"WAIT, THAT"S WHAT CAUSED THE EXPLOSION?! HOW HIT DID THAT FIRE GET?! JEEZ, I CAN'T SEE A THING! IS THE MATCH STILL GOING ON OR WHAT?!" When the smoke cleared, we all saw that Midoriya had been knocked clean into the wall behind him, out of bounds. He collapsed to the ground face first.

"There... Midoriya is... Out of bounds! TODOROKI WINS!" Midnight announced. "HE ADVANCES TO THE THIRD ROUND!" He looked exhausted, and the left side of his uniform on his shirt had been burnt clean off...

But, the battles were just beginning...

Sorry you’re having a bad week! I hope you’re doing alright. I’m kinda shy so I don’t normally send in asks, but I wanted to ask if you’ve considered seeing My Hero Academia? The primary villain/deuteragonist of the story reminds me so much of Beyond Birthday it’s unreal, and there are characters who hearken toward Mello and Misa too, which is awesome. Hi there, thank you for the ask! I understand being shy, I don't send people questions very often either lol.

1. So I actually have seen the first two seasons of My Hero Academia and I really liked it! I meant to continue watching it, but with my ADHD I often get sidetracked. I agree though that Bakugo is like Mello and Shigaraki is like BB. I don't think I've met the character who's like Misa yet, but she looks cool! I'll definitely have to get back to watching the series so I can see what happens next. So far Todoroki is my favorite character followed closely by Tsu. I find both of them relatable and I like their powers a lot.

2. I have thought about his upbringing a lot and I have several different headcanons for it. For the most part, I think L was mostly a loner and didn't interact with the other kids a ton. I think he had lessons with Roger and Wammy and then started educating himself on various stuff when he got his computer and got bored of what the old men taught him. I think he didn't have any close friends, or anything he would truly consider a real friendship, but got along alright with some of the other kids there. I imagine he would act polite to keep up appearances or to get what he wanted from the other kids. He probably mostly stuck to his room though. Wammy probably tried to encourage him to talk to the other kids until L started solving cases and he realized that was what L was most interested in. I think he probably got along with A and had a complicated relationship with B. He probably kept them at a distance because he doesn't like to get close to others, but still cared about both of them even if he didn't outwardly express that. Maybe they helped him with a few cases and he got to know them slightly better than the other kids at Wammy's, but he still probably wouldn't have labelled the relationships as friendships. Especially if he went on to make them his first successors, he probably tried to make them more like his colleagues.

3. My favorite anime character of all time is L. I have always found him to be incredibly fascinating and I relate to his character in multiple ways. I don't see a lot of autistic representation in the media that I view positively, but L was the first character I viewed as autistic that I loved the representation of. He was relatable and flawed and kind of the hero of the story while also kind of the villain of the story and there was so much mystery surrounding him that I could come up with whatever I wanted to give him a backstory. He sits weird like I do and loves sweets like I do and prefers to be by himself like I do and he's a badass. He's polite but also seen as a jerk, which is how folks often view me as well. I really looked up to him while also questioning a lot of his actions. I don't think any other character has come close to giving me all the feelings L does. I love him and I think he's a mess and I think he's capable of more and he gives me hope for myself. So yeah, he'll always be my favorite.

I've watched 12 Angry Men — my first, and as of yet only, black and white movie.

For an assignment, I borrowed What You Must Think of Me: A Firsthand Account of One Teenager's Experience with Social Anxiety Disorder. It's actually not that long or boring. Unlike what books my classmates chose.

i should really start ranting about my more "normal" special interests. Psychology, disorders, and the like are a big part of my special interests which is why I'm so intent on talking about it. Plus I have a lot of thoughts and finally found people that agree! They're so rare on other sites :( it's been hard to find others that really get it and aren't just repeating harmful misinformation.

Anyway, here's some "normal" special interests or basically fandoms and media I enjoy consuming! Long post ahead!

Monster Hunter, specifically the stories series but I am interested in mainline as well

Stranger Things. I've only seen 5 episodes of season 4, got setback cause of a move, so no season 4 spoilers please :)

Cuphead, the game and the show though I haven't played the game yet. Also no spoilers for the DLC, I wish to experience it myself when I get the game.

If Chloe fans were the only problem, fandom might be salvageable. But this isn't an "isolated incident" of bullying apologism, this has become a PATTERN, and it's not exclusive to Miraculous Ladybug.

In the My Hero Academia fandom, Bakugo fans believe it's Izuku's job to fix his bully, who violently assaulted him for 10 years and told him to kill himself.

In the Life is Strange fandom, Victoria fans believe it's Max's job to fix her bully, despite Victoria having almost driven Max's friend Kate Marsh to suicide.

In the Naruto fandom, Sasuke fans believe it's Naruto's job to fix Sasuke, and Sasuke fans acted like the show personally betrayed them somehow when Naruto married Hinata instead.

In the Avatar the Last Airbender fandom, Azula fans constantly scream at the top of their lungs that Zuko is a terrible person for leaving the sister who tormented him for years.

This isn't just a few Chloe fans, this has become an ORGANIZED PHILOSOPHY in modern fandom culture.

There is something horrendously wrong with Generation Z's expectations for "how the world should work." Somehow, Generation Z has been raised to believe, with every fiber of their being, that "other people only exist to act as therapists for their own attackers."

At this point, we may need to write off modern fandom culture as a "lost cause", and just concentrate on raising future generations with more humane and responsible values that don't burden victims with the expectation of appeasing their own attackers.

Hi anon. This has been a thing for a while. I wouldn't necessarily blame Gen Z. After all, this trope is named for many a millennial Harry Potter fan. All sorts of personal factors go into it... how much the fan relates to the character, the ability of the fan to be objective rather than subjective, media literacy ability, etc. I think so long as fiction and subjective bias exist, there will always be people who lean so deeply into their biases that they "______ in Leather Pants" their faves and blame anyone else in the process.

That said, I think the Chloe situation is unique in that, what started as your typical Draco in Leather Pants situation with biased stans being in the wrong, ended with Thomas Astruc making a poor choice too. Maybe I'm off with this, but I don't think Season 4 - 5 was the original intended route for Chloe's character. I think it's pushing it to say she was definitely getting a full redemption arc because Chloe never made that much progress, but I don't think the clownishly villainous Chloe in Seasons 4 - 5 was planned initially. That, to me, felt like an intentional slight at Chloe stans. And yeah, I get why TA is mad at them. Truth be told, Chloe stans are what kept me from joining the Miraculous fandom initially. I remember I logged into Tumblr to look up this cute show I just got into and I found several posts about how Marinette was being unfair to Chloe. It blew my mind. Like full 'Draco in Leather Pants' bias and logic. I blinked, closed my browser and decided I didn't need that in my life.

From what I understand, he also got quite a lot of harassment on Twitter from Chloe stans demanding that he write her the way they felt she should be written. Some writers would have crumbled under pressure and retooled it. More humble writers would have just blocked these people/left Twitter alone and stuck to their original plan. TA decided to take the aggressive route and troll the haters. Which I'm sure feels good for him, but he sacrificed the integrity of his show in the process. And gave Chloe stans a leg to stand on.

I don't agree with them on everything. I don't care to argue about it anymore, but I think a lot of their in-narrative takes around 'Revelation' are full of bias and misplaced blame. That's what my post was based on. But after seeing the leaks, I also can't completely wave their complaints off anymore. I am saving my final judgement there until after I actually see these episodes. Framing is everything.

1. How do you feel about reblog karma?

I thought about expanding onto this question since I gave my general opinion on reblog karma before, so follow ups will just be little tidbits.  I think that reblog karma is an admirable concept, although I don’t really agree with this idea that everyone has to practice reblog karma - the fact is, some people just won’t - they don’t like it or they see it as unnecessary.  Sure, it’s really decent and kind of people to practice it and I’m not sure how many people actually think this, but I have stumbled on the odd post saying that everyone should have to practice it.  Personally, I think it’s just a matter of choice and a matter of principle that every mun will have a different stance or opinion on - to expect everyone else to follow it just because you do feels like a bit much to me.

2. Is it hard for you to write with characters you don’t know/don’t well?

I think it depends on how complicated the fandom is - like for example, a while ago, this Josuke muse from Diamonds Are Unbreakable wanted to plot together and I’ve never been someone who has read or watched or had anything to do with the JoJo series - my understanding is that JoJo has been a long-running series and each sort of ‘saga’ if you will (take Diamonds for example) is its own individual thing, but then at the same time, it becomes confusing because there’s previous JoJo characters too? Like I do know that Jotaro was in Diamonds and he ends up being Jolyne‘s father in Stone Ocean a couple of series down the line - in addition, just the idea of a Stand I found confusing- this mun tried comparing them to Personas and in that sense it kind of makes sense to me? I just think that with a series that has such a history behind it and so much lore like JoJo, I probably wouldn’t want to get too deep into the story stuff nor would I want to make a JoJo verse or write anything set in the JoJo universe since I simply don’t know much about it.

5. Is there a muse you really want to try? If yes, what’s stopping you?

Yes, there is! I’ve had my heart set on a My Hero Academia muse for a while now, I’ve just been taking my time reading and watching the series because I really want to be able to understand the character and do write by him when I do eventually write him - he’s quite unlike any other muse I’ve written before so it’s also a bit more nervewracking in that sense.

7. Describe your favorite relationship dynamic. (can be any kind, platonic, romantic, familial, antagonistic, etc.)

I really like that whole just ‘domestic couple’ - when you reach that certain stage in a ship where all of the drama and all of the pining is behind them and it’s just two muses cohabiting and just enjoying each other’s presence and kind of just basking in this new relationship together - I always find it very calming and easy to come back to - on Discord, I’ve had a long time ship over with @resonatingmuses​​ - and just last night, we were doing something a little domestic and a little cute for Halloween - like a little fluff piece basically and it was honestly amazing - it’s fun being able to just talk about that kind of stuff with someone and mutually gush over how cute they are together - I also just think it’s nice to be able to write such a steady couple together.

Comfort place!? This makes me want to carve out time to post infinitely more. 🥹 Even though it feels a bit aimless, I’m glad I could cultivate that for you and hope I can continue to do so.

RE: twitter, without context, it's hard to tell whether this person is earnestly recommending people to expand their interests into BL or if they're dumping on people who tend to support and identify queer shipping across other genres.

On the one hand, heavy agree that if you appreciate queer pairings of any kind to absolutely find media and stories that shows healthy (and authentic, if possible!) representation of whatever you're into. I feel like sometimes in BL, specifically, there’s a lot of toxicity or violence passed off as romance which is why I recommend being discerning. Here are some green flag recommendations and I kind of touch on the importance of identity through engaging with queer content by way of BL's featuring fudanshi's there. Isn't always the case, but it's a storyline I appreciate.

If the poster was side eyeing queer ships in "mainstream" or shonen stories... they should grow up. I've been in and out of fandom for like.. 20 years. There have always been people who recognize and popularize queer ships. Back in the day? Characters didn't even have to share the same show, universe or genre to end up in a crossover slash fic on Fanfiction.Net.

Don't get me wrong, I've definitely needlessly explored several crack theories or made off-base assumptions about a story for the sake of trying to guess at where it’s going. But I sometimes question people's competency for reading/watching comprehension when a particularly shitty hottake is making its rounds on social media. Like are we not watching the same thing?

Subtext does exist. I don't know that all authors are as elegant or intentional in its execution but if you're not bothering to consider the possibility, you're potentially missing out on critical pieces of a story you're choosing to invest hours/years of your life into! This isn't simply as it pertains to shipping but also picking up on critical exposition (Attack. On. Queer coding does exist. Tons of reasons why queer characters aren't always explicitly identified as such. More often than not, there's some form of censorship. Whether at the editing level during manga production or when it comes time for manga/shows to be approved for international distribution (re: information that's lost in translation vs outright decisions to alter the flow of the story). Most glaring example of this that comes to mind is Haruka Tenou or "Sailor Uranus"/Michiru Kaiou or "Sailor Neptune. In addition to gratuitous name changes when Sailor Moon was pushed abroad, several countries would rather portray the two as unusually close relatives despite the clear romantic undertones exhibited whenever they were on screen together. Also, IDK why, but pretty sure I'd seen somewhere that, initially the creator of Naruto did want to canonize Sasuke/Naruto but, truth be told, I've never watched the series and that could have been a fanon theory I'd seen.

Overarching messages exist. Similar to the first point, a story is seldom just a story. More often than not, you're looking at some sort of social critique or opinion that's being expressed or explored through the story. To not bother thinking critically about what you choose to spend time in enjoying is a pretty bland way to miss the point of it.

When all else fails, it's not our fault that the only relationships most shonen mangaka focus on developing is the one between "rivals". That's it. If there were more dynamic characters or literally any consideration toward the depth of intimacy between the main character and whatever tritagonist female lead the male lead inexplicably ends up with (aside from the simple rationale that "she is the girl 🎀"), then maybe fans won't have to hone in on how the only agency, equality and intimacy is between the only two characters of substance. That was a mouthful but so are the overly poetic soliloquies shonen rivals inevitably share about one another.. ✨

I'm guessing this question might be related to the last anon ask about fanfics? I agree regarding the fact that subtext allows for a richer selection of fan art and fics. I think, depending on content, the motivation for reading fics will subsequently differ. For instance, I'm less likely to read fanfics for a romance series even if I sometimes write for them because the source material generally satisfies what I wanted from them. But fix it fics, angst and romance fics for shonen/seinen series'?? I'll definitely pick them up because, 1) there are usually unexplored relationship dynamics in the source material, 2) there are alternative domestic/fluff storylines you'd never see because the genre doesn't allow for it, 3) the canon plot is usually so devastating *cough, JJK, cough* that I need a respite, and/or, 4) the developing plot tends to have a lot of holes that writers can explore to craft uniquely compelling AU's and alternative plotlines that I wouldn't imagine.

A my hero academia themed DnD campaign sounds amazing!! I am very excited to hear about this :O I just started playing

So after so long, I've finally thought to finish writing this. Or re-writing this, rather. I am sorry for the delay!! ^^''

(Please note that I kind of just go by my own rules rather than the normal D&D rules. Also the MHA characters are aged up slightly due to the ages my players chose for their characters. That being said, by players get to pick at least 3 powers with a shared additional one)

Well, for one we just kind of go where our brains go with this

Okay so the game actually doesn't start at MHA

it actually starts in this area called Myrefalls, which is a dimension that links other worlds together by doors made of reflective clear glass

magic portals basically

I just imagine Myrefalls to be a small yet beautiful ancient city

People reside there to learn and defend the doors should anything get in

That being said, two of my players (and my dm pc) are from there

they were born and raised in Myrefalls with magical abilities that will one day help the city

and during a walk, three of them (Kota, Zafirah & Athena) stumble upon a random & mysterious magic circle

and the more they stare at it, the moor it draws in their curiosity

and alas, they are transported from their home to where MHA takes place; Musutafu, Japan. .

not only that but in the middle of a city street that is under attack by some monster, or by the locals, "a villain"

and with being trained, the three leap into action

honestly those around them, heroes & citizens alike are too stunned by these three dropped outta nowhere from a portal to anything

well except All Might

he comes in to congratulate them but also ask where they came from (he knows that they are definately not from there)

and eventually the three of them end up meeting All Might on a few more occasions

he learns that they've never been to this place before nor they any money or a place to stay

so he offers to fund their housing & the like but only if they apply at the school called UA

and that housing area is right next-door to the Midoriya household

and naturally the three go to meet their neighbor who is really shy around them

he also goes over to their home soon after to meet with All Might, but faints when he sees one of them turn into a cat

by this point, they know his secret because one of them rolled persuasion

they don't understand why it's such a big deal but they agree to keep it

it's also a little odd to mention that all three girls have a different opinion of All Might. One thinks he's really cool (Athena), one thinks he's nice but he's tall so he's scary (Kota, the cat girl) and one finds him highly suspicious and doesn't trust him at all (Zafirah)

with knowing Izuku's secret, All Might rushes the three of them to go to the entrance Exam for UA

based on their rolls, all three of them do pretty good

and once they see how bad a state Izuku is in after saving Uraraka, Athena, who has plant/vine powers, rolls him up in a flowerbed-like rug and drags him back home

Moving forward a bit, these are some other things that happen in my D&D session:

the girls learn that they can essentially borrow abilities but they keep them

they have no explanation for this, and the players have chosen not to learn more

Cue all three flirting with Aizawa as soon as they see him

this means that when Shigaraki touched and messed up Athena's shoulder, he allowed her access to his power

Kota has bitten Kitkat (Katsuki) and survived

Athena keeps fighting Kitkat yet she's in love with him (won't admit it)

she also asks Todo (Todoroki) to go places with her, because she's in love with him too

but Zafirah also kinda likes him

Zafirah has kissed Dabi

enter in our third player (not including my dm pc) and only male player, Hiro, who has possessed enough of the main cast in just his first day at UA after his transfer

he and Athena seem to fight a lot

he has challenge Kitkat to a duel and has won (based on rolls)

he is in love with Athena and wants to knock out the competition

The team are tasked with a secret mission with Hawks

While Hawks collects them from their shared home, Dabi is waiting inside the house

Dabi convinced Athena to agree to their team to join the League of Villains because they'd be useful and this is kind of entertaining

Dabi keeps trailing Athena to bug her

after Toga and Twice kidnap the neko girl, Kota, the team force Dabi to take them to their lair (rolled persuasion and convinced him)

at the hideout, they find out that Shigaraki had completely destroyed Kota's eyesight, leaving her eyes, or at least where they were, permanently messed up

So Todoroki for some reason works at a strip/dance club (obviously, he's Icythot on Thursdays) and even got Hiro a job there

Izuku may or may not be become Villain-Deku

Kota dates Kiri but ultimately the current Deku is working to change that

A little bit about my players :

Athena

she's also kind of a hoe if I'm honest

she likes wrapping people up in her flower beds

honestly they look like a smoke wrapped up like that

well she does have the power to control any and all plants after all

she's done with the world 98.5% of the time

honestly she's tryna rival Midnight in being the Rated-R hero with how her hero costume is

Kota (DM PC)

tiny cat girl

only loves Kirishima / Deku

can transform into a white cat with ginger spots

she is currently blind and has to navigate her way around

she has a teddy bear that can turn into a scythe

she has a bubble shield that she uses to protect people

Zafirah

A fairy

sleeps in a drawer

will fight anybody if they dare to hurt her friends

she's often sus of strangers

she's strategic in the way she fights

other than the borrowing power she shares with the others, she has fire hands. So she care burn whatever she touches (although she can choose)

she fights with knives

Hiro

He's a bit arrogant

Hiro is a typical ladies man

he actually is a pretty good guy once you get to know him

he's very protective of his friends

he actually wants to find out if there is a way to reverse what happened to Kota

Athena may be a hoe, but Hiro is her hoe equal

he possesses people to take/borrow their powers

while the others can borrow powers only, he can choose whether to permanently take them or to take them for a limited time
