Brit I absolutely love love love the detail you put into the food & cooking in your fics! I was wondering if Baby Girl and Bird have favorite dishes to cook, and/or if Andy and Ari have favorites as well? xx
Hi friend! It makes me so happy to know that you enjoy those little details. Both Baby Girl and Bird have a passion for cooking and baking, just like I do. And I often research different recipes when writing about the meals they create to help people visualize. So thank you for that lovely compliment!
And as for your question about their favorite dishes, here you go:
Baby Girl: Favorite Dessert: This girl will happily whip up a glazed lemon pound cake from scratch any day of the week. It's her specialty. The secret is adding fresh squeezed lemon juice as well as a package of instant lemon pudding to the batter. And if she's feeling frisky, she might even throw together a blueberry compote to go with it.
Tumblr media
Favorite Meal: Smothered pork chops, with garlic red skin mashed potatoes and southern style green beans. Now this is a Barber Family Favorite that actually takes a bit of time to prepare. Which means that this is more of a Sunday dinner type of occasion.
She typically puts the beans on simmer around noon. In case people are curious, Baby Girl prefers using smoked turkey over ham hocks, simply because that's how she grew up.
Tumblr media
Bird: Favorite Dessert: As many of you know, our sweet Bird does not play when it comes to baking. Ari almost got hurt when he insulted her legendary Peach Cobbler. That splash of bourbon really takes the recipe to the next level. She also loves making her award-winning Brambleberry Pie. Lately she's been busy perfecting her Brown Butter Pecan Chocolate Chip Cookies. And her Beast is more than happy to be her guinea pig anytime.
Tumblr media
Favorite Meal: Bird is not quite as accomplished a cook as BG, but she is pretty darn good when she sets her mind to it. Her favorite thing to make for both herself and Ari is probably a slow simmered Pot Roast, complete with potatoes, carrots, and mushrooms. Our girl also likes to add a healthy glass of red wine to the mix as well. Which truly makes for a delicious meal.
Tumblr media
As for Andy and Ari, they will happily devour anything their girls set in front of them. They always appreciate the effort, even if things don't quite turn out like they hoped. Neither man likes seeing their lady upset when a dish doesn't work out.
So in the event that occurs, they're quick to order takeout of some sort and then go straight for the snuggles. Because those men are usually pretty attention-starved on a good day. It works for both couples and that's all that matters.
Thanks for the ask!

Hey Mel! I've had this song in my head all day as I've written this, thank you!
Henry doesn’t think he’s ever been so mad at Alex.
Naturally, he understands that law school is cumbersome, that it takes up a lot of Alex’s time and energy. A lot of it. It shouldn’t take all of it. After all, Alex needs to have time to be a person too.
The worst of it is, he doesn’t think Alex sees what’s happening. He’s barely spent any time with Henry at all- not even to sleep for more than a couple of hours a night.
Apart from the fact that he's worried about his health and well-being, Henry just misses him. He can't remember the last time they watched Bake-Off together, or the last time he had one of Alex's home-cooked make. Not that he minds trying his hand at a recipe or two, but he's sure Alex is getting sick of spaghetti and takeaway meals from their favorite restaurants.
It all comes to a head just before the holidays. Of course, he doesn't celebrate Thanksgiving, but being in the States, it's expected that he'll celebrate with Alex and his family. Alex had surfaced from his readings just enough to insist on his family coming to the brownstone to celebrate. Nora’s here too, after all, so it just makes sense for everyone from the First and Second Families to be together.
He may have set the plans in motion, but Alex does nothing in the week leading up to Thanksgiving to prepare the brownstone for the President’s arrival. Henry's been the one scrubbing the floors and going to the grocery, even preparing traditional dishes he's never made before in his life. It's exhausting, honestly, and Henry loves the President, he really does, but there's something about the combination of getting ready for her arrival without the music he's sure Alex would put on and sing to (he tried, but it wasn't the same as his partner’s off-key renditions) that rubs him the wrong way.
Finally, he storms into the room that's become Alex's study over the past months. Things need to change, and it's clear that inaction has accomplished nothing.
Alex doesn't look up from his screen as Henry enters. Finally, Henry slams the door behind him, and that gets Alex's attention. “What's up, H?”
Henry throws his hands in the air. That if nothing else demonstrates just how oblivious Alex's been. “What's up? What's up is that I'm slaving away preparing stuffing and mashed potatoes and cornbread-” He sees Alex flinch at the mention of the turkeys that featured so prominently in their first phone call, but he soldiers on. This needs to be said, whether Alex is willing to hear it or not. “For your family's arrival in less than two hours, and you're so busy with your studies that you're unable to help.”
Alex opens his mouth to interrupt, but Henry doesn't let him get a word in. “But it's more than that. I understand that you have things you need to do, and that's fine- of course it is, you're at uni. But it's to the point that I feel like I never get to see you anymore, never get to laugh with you or take David on walks to the park together or even watch a movie. I feel like our lives are so detached- they orbit each other, but there's no gravity connecting the two planets of our lives.” He swallows hard, refusing to let the sob rising in his throat escape. “I miss the man I love. I miss my best friend.”
At that point, David, who Henry hadn't noticed had followed him into the room, nudges his hand, and he automatically scratches the top of his head without breaking eye contact with Alex. He's looking at Henry like he's never seen him before, and it makes Henry's heart lurch. How did they get here?
“Is that really how you feel?” Alex asks so softly that Henry can barely hear him speak.
All Henry could do was nod.
“Baby. I never meant-”
“Shhh, I know,” Henry rushed to assure him, taking his hands. “But it happened, and now what we need to do is fix it, yeah?”
Alex nodded then cocked his head to the side. “But how? There's no way I can get rid of law school homework, Hen.”
“We'll figure it out. Now, are you ready to celebrate? The thing I'm always most grateful for is you.”
“Always.”

Hi hi! I'm back with another chapter. This one might not be as good(?, it's a really fluffy chapter so bear with me.
warnings: sugar daddy jae, he's a big baby, tooth rotting, kinda long.
sugar rush m.list.
taglist: @thoreeo @trustmahluv @sunny-nyu @nanascupid @silent-potato
“Sir, there’s a girl asking to see you.”
“Hey, I’m not a girl!” He chuckled as his finger pressed the button to communicate with his secretary.
“Hey, I’m not a girl!” He chuckled as his finger pressed the button to communicate with his secretary.
“Hey, I’m not a girl!” He chuckled as his finger pressed the button to communicate with his secretary.
“Let her in.”
Only a few seconds later, your head was peeking through his door.
“I brought you coffee.” You extended your hand out, showing him the carton containing two iced drinks. “Are you busy?”
“Not at all, come in.” You sat on the elegant, individual sofa in front of him, his desk serving as a separation. “Are you here to spy on me? Don't you trust me with your father's case?” He pouted, typing something in his keyboard while your palms started sweating.
How could you not trust the man with the highest case winning index in the whole country?
Briefly, after your encounter with the other lawyer, you'd googled him as well as his company. Because of his incredibly high fees, he didn't have many clients, but those few who had enough money to cost him were almost assured to be on the winning side. So then, why hadn't an excellent lawyer like him popped up when you'd first looked for popular firms? Simple, he wasn't popular.
Just like a hidden gem, only a few had the pleasure to know Yoonoh, and you felt beyond grateful for paying that stupid membership weeks ago.
“No, no!” You were quick to defend yourself, frantically shaking your hands to support your previous statement. “Just wanted to be of help.”
Truth to be told, after receiving your first weekly allowance, an unsettling feeling had been squeezing your heart ever since. Call it guilt or whatever, but it didn't set right to be receiving si much help from him when you hadn't had the chance to do anything in return. The least you could do was trying to be polite.
“You shouldn't be spending your money on me. I'm the one supposed to spoil you, remember?” He grabbed the plastic container by the lid, sipping the bitter liquid with an amused smile. “But thank you.”
“I paid my rent yesterday.” You blurted out, trying to avoid the uncomfortable silence threatening to settle between the two of you. “And I still have money left to save for my father's hospital bills, maybe even buy a present for my aunt.”
He admired how noble you were, making sure those around you had enough before even thinking to do something for yourself.
“I have a party this Friday, would you like to attend with me?” Your presence wasn't required as it wasn't a big event, but by the look in your eyes, he knew you were itching to do something in return for his kindness.
“Yes, of course!” Your orbs sparkled with excitement, finally feeling yourself useful.
“If you don't mind waiting, we can go buy something for you to wear right after I finish with this.” For what seemed like the tenth time in less than ten minutes, small beads of sweat rolled down the back of your neck. Thank God he wasn't able to see them. “Oh, come on, don't give me that look!”
“You’ve already done so much for me. I can buy the clothes myself, don't worry.” With a deep sigh, Yoonoh rose from his chair, taking long strides to surround the desk separating you. “W-what are you doing?” Now kneeling on the floor beneath you, his face was dangerously close to yours, coffee breath crashing against your nose.
“Using mind control to convince you to let me take you out.” He stared at you for a couple more seconds before saying: “Is it working?”
“I think your mind control is broken.” You whisper, unable to hold back the small giggles bubbling at the back of your throat.
“How about now?” He batted his eyelashes, trying to act cute despite his bold features. You shook your head.
Just as you thought it was over, his hand went up to cup your jaw, his thumb drawing uneven figures on the ticklish skin.
“How about now?” He repeated. You stammered, unsure of what to say. “Sorry, that was inappropriate.” Aware of your awkwardness and the rising heat in your cheeks, he stood up, walking back to his chair. “But I do want to get you something, would you let me?”
With your mind busy and your guard low, you nodded, unaware of the silly smile on his face.
“I have a few novels on my shelf in case you want something to kill time.”
“Thank you.” You moved to the huge bookshelf facing his desk, grateful your face wasn't visible anymore.
The books were ordered by genre and size, starting from the biggest law-related textbooks to pocket-sized novels, ending with the smallest one he had. The little prince.
Your eyes widened in disbelief. Yoonoh didn't seem to be the type to read that kind of heartbreaking yet beautiful book. Nonetheless, as many said, you can't judge a book by its cover.
An hour or two later, you were halfway into the first book of flowers in the attic, immersed in the small world the author had created. Yoonoh had finished his work a few minutes before, but distracting you when you were reading so vividly, seemed like a crime. He enjoyed the way your eyebrows would knit together every time something shocking happened, clearly too immersed in the novel to notice his intense gaze.
“Y/n...” He whispered once he noticed you were starting a new chapter. You blinked twice, hands clutching the book tightly as you noticed he had finished his work. “You can take it home, don't worry.”
“Sure?” He flashed his pretty dimples as his eyes turned into half-moons.
“You can come back for the rest of the saga when you finish this one. Take as many books as you please, I’ve already read them all.”
“Thank you.” Another act of kindness you had no way of returning. His favors just seemed to be piling up before you could even return any. “Would you like to have dinner with me today? I'm a great cook, or so did my father said.” You blurted out quickly, twisting your hands nervously as you waited for an answer.
“I’d love to. But I might have to attend some work calls if you don't mind.”
“I don't, maybe I'll even have time to bake a cake while you're at it.” God, how bad he wanted to take a picture of that adorably nervous smile.
“Great, so it's settled. Dinner at your place after we go shopping.” He had already put his blazer on, offering his arm to guide you out. With shaky fingers and sweaty armpits, you grabbed it, walking by his side with his secretary’s gazed glued on you. So much for a girl, huh?
Once seated in his car, with the book resting on your lap, you allowed yourself to relax. Yoonoh wasn't a bad person, on the contrary, he was very kind, so there was no use in keeping your guard up when he was around.
“Ready to roll?” You cringed at his use of slang, making him drop his head back to laugh. “What? Isn't it a thing you cool young adults say?”
“Maybe twenty years ago, Yoonoh.” It was the very first time you used his name so informally, and, oh how good it felt to hear you saying it?
“Fine, I won't use it anymore.” He poked your arm like a little child, and for a moment, you wondered if he was actually more than a decade older.
Several bad jokes, two dresses, and a quick stop at the grocery store later, you arrived at your apartment. Yoonoh held everything while you entered the passcode, struggling not to drop a can of vegetables that was starting to bend the edge of the paper bag.
“Ready, hand me something.” You both entered with your hands packed with different things. You went to your room to leave the new dresses while Yoonoh set the paper bags down on the kitchen counter.
“So...” He clapped loudly. “What are we cooking?”
“I bought the ingredients for lasagna. Is that okay with you?” He nodded, lips pressed and dimples in display. “Alright, let's do this.”
It would've been of great help if Yoonoh had told you he didn't know how to cook. But of course, part of the fault was yours for not noticing when he tried to add ketchup to the recipe.
“I burnt it.” He looked at the semi-carbonized pasta with disgust, feeling ashamed of having ruined your dish. “Let’s just throw it away and order something.” He was about to touch the hot container until your grip on his wrist halted his movements.
“We just pulled it out of the oven.” You shook your head in disbelief at the man standing in front of you.
“Sorry.”
Despite Yoonoh’s endless complaining, you ate the lasagna. The flavor wasn't that bad when you scratched off the burnt parts, especially when accompanied by a cold glass of wine.
“It’s not that bad.” You repeated over and over again. A phone call interrupted him from self-pitying any further. “Go on, take it.” You continued eating while he spoke in the living room.
It wasn't until a couple of minutes later that you realized he was whisper yelling at whoever was on the other line. It was your first time seeing him angry, and you didn't like it one bit. The way his face turned completely stoic, his eyes cold as his hand rested on his hip. Sweet, caring, Yoonoh was gone.
“I told you I needed it for today.” He said through gritted teeth. “You better get it before I arrive back at the office, or you can find yourself another job.” Even after he hung up, Yoonoh stood in the middle of the shared area, clutching his phone so tightly, it seemed like it would break any minute.
You wanted to ask if everything was alright, if he needed any help, but most importantly, if the things he needed were related to your father's case, but all the words stuck to your throat like insects in a spider web.
“I need to go.” He simply said, not even bothering to fake a smile. “Thank you for dinner, I'll see you on Friday.” With his free hand, he grabbed the coat hanging from his chair and left, slamming the door on his way out.
Was that the real Yoonoh?
A shiver ran down your spine. What had you gotten into? From what you'd seen, it was only about time he would show his true self to you as well.
All the trust you'd built up during the day, had crumbled down in a matter of seconds. The worst part? You didn't even feel entitled to be scared, not after all he'd done for you.
‘Just keep your distance.’ You repeated like a mantra as you got ready for bed, leaving the book you'd borrowed right where he'd left it, afraid it would burn your fingertips even with the slightest touch.
(...)
The week wasn't nearly as long as you'd wanted it to be, and soon enough, you were struggling to zip the dress you'd bought days ago. Your makeup was done, and Yoonoh had texted you he was on his way, yet, you'd been fighting with the zipper for at least ten minutes. Your fingers were cramping, and the clock was ticking.
Just when you'd finally started to drag the small piece of metal, the doorbell startled you, causing you to let go of it.
“Fuck!” Have you ever felt so desperate that tears start pricking your eyes? Well, that was the exact case happening at the moment.
You opened the door with the salty water collecting at the corner of your eyes, surprising Yoonoh, who was wearing his best dimply smile.
“What’s wrong?” He had a bouquet poorly hidden behind his back, probably to apologize for the night he abruptly left and almost knocked down your door.
“I-I can't zip up my dress.” Your voice came out shaky, giving away the emotions burning your gut. Thankfully, Yoonoh didn't seem to notice, and if he did, he didn't mention it.
“I’ll help you.” He, not-so-discretely, put down the bouquet, gently turning you around to your discomfort. His cold hands touched your back as he dragged the zip up, noticing how tense you were but deciding not to comment on it. “Oh! You haven't moved the book from where I left it.”
“I haven't had time to read.” He hummed, crouching to reach for the bouquet and hand it to you. “Thank you.”
“It’s my way of apologizing for the fit I threw a couple of days ago.” A fit? That was one way to call it.
“It’s okay.” You lied as you pushed the corners of your lips to form a credible smile. “Let’s get going.”
The flowers were left on the kitchen counter before you left. The ride in the elevator was awfully quiet, and Yoonoh had no idea what had happened. You were so chatty the last time he saw you, so of course, he was taken aback by the sudden change.
“It’s not going to take long, so we can head out for some drinks later if you'd like...” You nodded, for you knew speaking would only expose your discomfort. “Is everything alright?”
“Yeah! Just nervous about the party, that's all.”
You stood by Yoonoh’s side for the rest of the evening, smiling and nodding at his acquaintances’ comments. At one point in the evening, a man, not much older than you, approached you both with a wide smile.
“Dude, I hadn't seen you in ages. Stop sending your workers and come see me yourself.” They hugged. Why were they hugging?
“Y/n, this is my brother, Sungchan.” The man with puppy-like eyes embraced you tightly, almost as if welcoming you to his family. “Sungchan, this is y/n, my girlfriend.” He said it so naturally, it’d take a detective to figure out the truth about your relationship.
“I’ve heard a lot about you. I'm sorry for your father. But don't worry, we'll take those bastards down.”
“I’m not following...” You blinked repeatedly, eyes going back and forth between Yoonoh and his brother.
“Sungchan is a doctor. I asked him to look at your father's case for further evidence. My assistant was supposed to pick up the report the day we had dinner, but she forgot to drop by. Now we’re a day behind schedule.” The dark cloud surrounding him seemed to be slowly dissipating as you heard his explanation. “This is an important case, and I want to be as meticulous as possible.”
Thank you didn't seem the right thing to say at the moment, at least not with Sungchan standing there, so you simply grabbed his hand, squeezing it to let him know how grateful you were.
To your surprise, he didn't even flinch as he locked your hands together, causing a small giggle from Sungchan.
“Okay, love birds, I'll get going.” He waved you goodbye, making his way to another table where his friend waited for him.
“Can we talk?” You whispered in his ear, afraid one of the numerous attendants would hear you.
“Sure.” Without letting go of your hand, he drove you to a small, private garden just outside the ballroom. “Are you gonna tell me what's wrong now?” His thumb caressed your knuckles with gentle strokes.
“I’m so sorry.”
“What for?”
“I pushed you away at the minimum trouble when you were only helping me.” He hummed as if he already knew about it. “And it will probably happen again, so please, be patient with me. I'm going through-” Your face collided against his chest as his arms draped over your shoulders, squeezing you tightly.
“Call me reckless, but I've wanted to do this for a while.” Your hands hung at the sides of your torso, unsure what to do next. “You can push me away, I'll understand...”
Instead, your palm found its place in his back, rubbing up and down the designer jacket. Your hair started turning messy from the night breeze, some strands striking Yoonoh’s chin as his embrace only grew tighter.
“Let’s get out of here.” He mumbled, crawling the back of your head with his hand. “Sungchan can deal with my father's friends.”
“Are you sure?” His hum vibrated through his chest, making you giggle at the odd feeling.
Once seated in his car, his hand found yours like a magnet, the warmth emanating from it comfortably enveloping your skin.
The calmness of the atmosphere was interrupted by a call from his brother, who seemed to be anxiously explaining something through the phone.
“Just tell him I had a work emergency.” With that said, he hung up, placing his hand back again on top of yours. “Sorry, he said it was urgent.”
“It’s okay.” An unsettling feeling pinched your stomach, but you decided to dismiss it, immersed in the chilly weather of the dark streets.
You arrived at the river, where Yoonoh asked you to wait for him while he bought a couple of beers. It was a sight to see, both of you clad in fancy clothes, barefoot and chugging down can after can.
“I think I like being with you.” You declared, mind fuzzy from the alcohol intake.
“I think I like it too.” The tips of his ears were rosy, revealing he was as intoxicated as you, maybe even more.
“Would you like to visit my father with me tomorrow?” The words flew out of your mouth before you could even realize. Afraid you'd killed the mood, you tried to excuse yourself, only to be interrupted by his lips grazing your ear, placing a timid kiss on your lobe.
“I’d love to.” It was the sweetest peck, no ulterior motives behind it, just pure affection.
“Are we going too fast?” In your drunken state, what you had felt like a real relationship, not a simple agreement. And this sure felt like a first date.
“We’re moving at our own pace, I believe.” He dropped his head on your shoulder, pressing against it to relieve the dizziness clouding his mind. “Are you okay with that? Maybe you don't want to be with an old creep like me, and I'd totally get it. Just don't let me get my hopes up if that's the case.”
“You might be old, but definitely not a creep.” Your fingers combed through his abundant hair as your mind wandered into the future, grateful for the fact that he wouldn't become bald soon. “Or are you?”
“I don't think so.” Anyone who walked by would've seen a couple of goofs, too intoxicated to talk without slurring the words, but you were living in your own, comfy bubble. “I should get you home before it gets too late. Come on, I'll call a driver.” He tried getting on his feet to no avail, stumbling back a little before falling back on his ass.
“My apartment is nearby. You can stay for the night.” You grabbed both pairs of shoes as his arm surrounded your shoulder for assistance. “If you keep supporting your whole weight on me, we're both gonna fall.” People on the street shot you a couple of funny looks, which was understandable since it wasn't usual to see two drunk idiots walking barefoot in the middle of the night.
“How long till-” Hiccup. “-we get there?” His stare seemed to worsen with every step. “God, I think I might throw up.”
“Stop acting like a teenager, we're almost there.”
As soon as you arrived at the small apartment, you sat him down on the little step where you changed your shoes. You left both pairs on the rack, proceeding to put on slippers to enter the house.
“Don’t leave me here!” He whined, stomping his feet like a little kid.
“Just wait for a second!” His attitude was starting to get on your nerves to the point where you couldn't feel the effects of the beer anymore.
You grabbed a rag from the kitchen cabinet and dampened it under the sink. Yoonoh was half asleep when you walked back to him.
“My head hurts.” He mumbled as you sat in front of him, placing his left foot on your lap. “What are you doing?”
“I don't have any slippers that will fit you, and I don't want your dirty feet making my house dirty.” With utmost delicacy, you wiped away the dirt from his toes, noticing the small scratches caused by the gravel he walked on.
He touched your hair while you finished with his other foot, tangling the strands with fascination.
“Done, get up.”
He followed your indications as you guided him to your room, where you laid him down on his side in case he threw up.
“Are we visiting your father tomorrow?” He asked while snuggling under the covers.
“Sure.” You cleared his forehead from the strands falling in it, grazing the soft skin of his forehead. “Sweet dreams, gigantic baby.”

Do you know the song "Tamagotoji"? It's become kind of a meme with all the animatics made for different ships on youtube. Anyways, that song for SaruMi post-RoK and of course, Fushimi is the one with the role of the person cooking for the one they like.
Ahh I watched some of the animatics and this would be super cute with Sarumi, imagine Fushimi trying very hard to make an egg dish for Misaki ;^; Imagine this post-ROK, maybe Yata's confessed to Fushimi and while Fushimi accepted the confession and they're living together and all that he still hasn't managed to actually say his own feelings out loud himself. It's actually starting to bother him a little, that he can't tell Misaki how he feels and like maybe he's just making things worse for Yata again, maybe he doesn't really deserve Yata, and he's just having his whole self loathing self esteem issues spiral. The S4 alphabet end up finding this out, Fushimi doesn't exactly tell them but he's eating the bento Misaki packed for him one day and when Akiyama notes that it's good to see him eating healthy Fushimi quietly mumbles something about how Yata made this for him and Fushimi can't even do anything in return. The squad realize that Fushimi needs a little nudge in the romance department so Enomoto suggests Fushimi try to make Yata a bento, like for those heart-pounding days of high school there's nothing more romantic than a girl making the boy she likes a bento.
Fushimi complains about what a stupid idea but he can't think of anything else either, so he ends up in the kitchen at S4 trying to make Yata some delicious egg dish that Fushimi can drop off at Yata's work. Unfortunately Fushimi's forgotten one little thing, which is that he's never in his life cooked his own lunch from scratch and he has no idea how to do it. He thinks it can't be that hard, like well stupid Misaki does this so really how difficult can it be. He pulls up a recipe online and okay maybe he skips a few steps and combines a couple more to make it quicker because he doesn't have all day but the food sorta looks...decent-ish, kinda. He takes it over to the skateboard shop where Yata works, probably intending to just drop it off with Yata's coworkers so he doesn't have to see Yata in person, but as it happens Yata's outside teaching a class and he immediately spots Fushimi when Fushimi walks over. Yata waves to him and Fushimi has no choice but to give him the bento in front of a bunch of kids that Yata was teaching to skateboard, Yata gets all red-faced and the kids are all grinning and gossiping quietly with each other. Yata can't believe Fushimi actually made him lunch, opening up the bento and taking a bite...and promptly choking and almost throwing up because as it turns out those steps Fushimi skipped were actually kinda important.
Fushimi's so irritated by this he probably doesn't even want to try again but at the same time he's still got that little stab of guilt, like Misaki is still making his lunches and saying 'I love you' and Fushimi can't even make a single lunch for him. Fushimi decides to give it another try and this time Kamo spots him going to the kitchen and offers to assist in teaching him. Fushimi tries to act like this is no big deal but he's actually thankful for the help and he manages to make a pretty good meal. He goes to take it to Yata and once again Yata's out teaching kids. As Fushimi approaches one of the kids accidentally sends a skateboard flying towards Fushimi, Yata's all worried and runs to help but Fushimi jumps over it easily...except he forgets about the bento and ends up tossing it right into Yata's face. Yata's sitting there all dumbfounded with food all over his face and Fushimi just turns on his heel and walks the other way, grumbling to himself and super embarrassed that he did something so stupid.
Fushimi's ready to forget about this entirely but the alphabet squad are persistent, all of them encouraging him and together they cheer him on as Fushimi tries one last time to make Yata a bento. This time it's Yata's day off and the squad offer to cover for Fushimi so he can go back to the apartment, Yata's just sitting innocently on the couch when the door slams open and Fushimi's standing there dead serious like 'Misaki. Come with me.' Yata's all worried that something happened as Fushimi grabs his arm and drags him to the nearest park, making him sit on a bench and looking at him intently in a way that's making Yata feel very nervous. Fushimi clicks his tongue and then shoves the bento at Yata like 'here.' Yata's all curious as he opens the box and sees the beautiful homemade lunch Fushimi made for him and Yata just grins like wait was this what you've been trying to do all week. Fushimi denies it and mumbles that he just wanted to make Yata something to eat '...because I love you.' Yata's eyes brighten and imagine he immediately takes a huge bite of the food, just smiling and laughing and Fushimi has no idea what's gotten into him, Yata just shrugs all well if the guy I love made it I've gotta eat it all, right.

summary: what starts off as tom taking you under his wing and some sunrise workouts together might just develop into something more
“It shouldn’t be legal…. to be doing anything… this fucking early!” Spoken, well yelled, in between the fake strokes of the exercise bike and your pants. All you got in response was the two men laughing at you, no sign of sympathy at all, as your gritted your teeth - fighting against every body instinct to stop the movements. Your heart was pumping like the clappers; breathing shallow and rushed and your arms… your arms felt like they were about to fall off. Combine that with the lack of sleep from waking up before the sun did at 5 am - meant you felt like your were in literal hell.
Why ever you’d agreed to do these workouts with Tom and Duffy escaped you. Being the new and rising actress, with a new supporting role in the next Spiderman, meant you’d spent a lot of time with Tom over the past few weeks. Not to inflate his ego either, but Tom had been a real life hero to you. See, you were the complete opposite of his experienced and seasoned professionalism - this was your first acting gig. And what a gig it was, the second biggest part in a Marvel movie. You never really believed you’d get the part and even when you did, were pretty sure it was some elaborate joke, where Ant and Dec were going to jump out from some corner and go ‘ha its a prank!’ or something.
Yet somehow it was all still happening, you had been flown halfway across the world to spend three months alone on a film set. Well obviously not alone, but you knew no one - you were a complete outsider. That, really, was the reason you’d agreed to do these sessions with Tom. He’d offered half heartedly while between takes as you were moaning about how out of breath you got in that scene. At that point, you’d only known each other for a matter of weeks, he really hadn’t expected you to commit to 5 am each and every morning. What he wasn’t aware of though, was how ocmplerly stranded and lonely you felt here, hence why you jumped at his offer.
And yes you loved to moan and complain when you were there, however you were also so incredibly thankful he ever offered. Duffy, Tom’s PT, was a right laugh too and he took great joy in torturing you - and was also entertained by the new and inventive ways you’d insult him after he ordered you about.
“Come on Y/n, 200m more and then we are done, even your little arms can survive that.”
“Really … not the encouragement… I was looking for.” Still panting, face bright red and blotchy as you pressed your legs straight again.
“Tom? You wanna help Y/n out?”
“Nah you know… kind of enjoying seeing her in pain.” The British voice laughed from somewhere behind you, making you roll your eyes.
“Why the hell… are you not… torturing him?” He sounded way to comfortable and relaxed to be working hard.
“He’s got a stunt heavy day today so wanted to go easy this morning.”
Now that was a bloody joke. You were BOTH filming the SAME scene today, doing the SAME stunts.
“Did I forget to mention Y/n is on set too?” The joy in Tom’s voice made you want to do horrible things to him. Even though you felt like you wanted to collapse on the floor, you’d happily do a set or two on a punch bag right now - if that punch bag was Tom’s face.
Before you could hurl some fresh abuse at your costar, Duffy called time on the rowing machine, turning the display off and passing your water bottle over as you slouched on the slidey seat.
“Done good Y/n/n, I am actually super impressed with your progress” The stocky man patted you on the back genuinely, bringing a bit of smile to your otherwise grimacing face. He went over the chat to Tom about some boy shit that you couldn’t care less about, allowing you a couple minutes to get your breath back. As soon as you did and tried to dismount the machine of death, your ruined legs seemed to have other plans, shakily buckling so you ended up starfished on the floor, groaning at the dull ache that came with the sudden movement.
And what show of concern did Duffy show you? A belly laugh that echoed round Toms indoor gym making you groan again, throwing your forearm over your eyes. It was in fact the curly haired brunette, who came and knelt by your side, wordlessly balling up the towel and placing it under your head as you shot your eyes open in shock.
“You okay? Sorry… I might’ve taken our friendly competition a bit too far.”
“I just… just might have to gain the power of flight this afternoon cos my legs aren’t gonna bloody work.” Tom chuckled and shook his head at your dry humour.
“Oh I’m sure we can talk to Jon and get that arranged… not like Marvel don’t spend years crafting the script and storyline for a newbie actor to change it all.”
“Might I remind you… they wouldn’t have to if your weren’t such a dickhead!” You exclaimed, sitting up and staring at him with an exasperated look than only made him burst out laughing again.
“I’m sorry I’m sorry… I just cant take you seriously when you look like such a tomato!” His voice went an octave higher as he laughed at himself, the situation getting even worse for you when you heard Duffy join in too.
The boy was bloody lucky you couldn’t lift your arms right now, otherwise they’s almost certainly be attempting to ruin his pretty boy face.
/////////////////////////////
After a long day of shooting you and Tom were in one of the set buggies, being taken back to your trailers to change for the evening. There was a peaceful silence until Tom ruined it yet again.
“ Got any fancy plans for this evening then?”
“Well you know me, back to my lonely little old place and  frozen pizza - so living the movie star life.”
“It’s a Friday! You not going out with your team or anything?” He sounded so bemused at your quiet plans, and mention of a ‘team’ had you cocking your head to the side.
“‘My team?’ Tom until I get my movie star pay check I can barely afford my pizzas, never mind a whole persons wage.” You were still only three weeks into filming and although you spent an hour every other morning sweating your ass off with Tom - apart from that you’d tried not to impose yourself on him too much. You didnt want to look clingy and naturally Tom always had a mountain of people vying for his attention - you would go to the back of a long line. So honestly, you were still a bit of a mystery to him, right now you’d both only scratched the surface on each other.
“Really? I know this is your first big job but I thought you’d have someone here?”
“Nah… I mean I’ve kinda clung to the Marty on the camera crew but he’s going to see family tonight sooo.”
“Come back to mine. I’ve swapped Harry for his twin Sam, which is a bit of an upgrade cos Sam’s a chef. He just arrived last night. I bet he can one up any pizza you were planning on.”
“Honestly I don’t want to impose, sorry I didnt mean for this to be a pity party or-“ The buggy slowed to a stop and Tom instantly vaulted out of it, standing right infront of you and blocking you exist off the back sofa. Both of you were still in costume, Tom in latex and you in your corset-esque two piece, but then both wrapped in matching long line black jackets supplied by set.
“No come on I’m serious… Sam’s dying to meet you and it’d be good to spend more time together. You know, cos of chemistry and all.” The last bit was a switch from his cool and smooth, normally easy going tone - into something a bit more… anxious? Just like that, before your brain even knew what it was doing, you agreed, smiling broadly and nodding.
So barely an hour later, you were knocking on the doors to Tom’s mansion-ish rented Atlanta home which was much much more grand than what the studio had arranged for you. Even though you were here most mornings, this time it felt different. Yeh it was stupid, but you can’t help the way you feel and you were stressed. For no real reason… just, just because.
Thankfully, it wasn’t awkward at all  and you especially instantly hit it off with his younger brother Sam. Everything just felt easy and simple which meant so much more considering you’d felt so isolated an alone halfway across the world for your home comforts. Being British too, simply chatting to the two young men about your hometown and growing up was just so familiar, it really helped you feel less homesick.  Naturally too,  you’d fallen into a casual and friendly ribbing of Tom with Sam, making the three of you spend to majority of the evening cracking up (or in Tom’s case pouting at the abuse). It was a nice change from the two on one attack you got from Tom and Duffy that morning. You’d all cooked dinner together… well no, you and Tom had stood idly watching Sam cook an amazing chicken curry dish - which he promised to give you the recipe too. Honestly Sam felt like your long lost best friend, especially when it came to your shared ability to berate Tom for anything and everything.
About an hour ago Tom had stuck on the film, effectively shutting up you and Sam - thankfully for him since Sam was just about to get to some rather embarrassing stories of Tom as a kid. You and Tom were on the longer grey sofa; with Sam sat  the other side of the coffee table in an impressively soft armchair - looking as though it was swallowing the lanky boy. The calm, the silence and the comfort was only going to go one way for you though. After your workout this morning, plus all the running and jumping during the shoot,  after what had already been a pretty intense week, it was hardly surprising that you didn’t even notice yourself drifting off the sleep.
Who did notice though? Perhaps your brown haired costar who’d been stealing glances across to you ever since the movie had been put on? Because as much as he hated to admit it to himself, this didnt seem to be panning out as a normal job. A normal job is something you put your all into, for a couple weeks, and then leave with good memories and a good pay check. Yes, he had only known your for a matter of weeks or so but it already seemed to be unfathomable to cut ties with you. How would he go without your kind mannered abuse everyday? You were just refreshing, new and mysterious. And Tom was more than intrigued, his interest was peaked.
And it was stupid to feel like that…. Of course it was. You can’t fancy a colleague because things get complicated and awkward. Tom knew that.
Then why was he now delicately draping a blanket over your frame and smiling smally when you hummed in your sleep, in what seemed to be a show of appreciation for the layer of warmth?
Because you were his excited puppy of a costar who is giving everything she has for the job? Because he is worried and wants to look after you? Because he cares?
No matter why, in that moment you were contented and as was Tom. Oh and Sam?
Sam saw the tell tale signs in his brother. He saw the way Tom had been touching your arm or the small of your back just a little more than what would be considered normal while he’d been cooking. He’d seen the way Tom had been laughing purely because you had. His eldest brother never did anything rash, it was always a painfully slow process for everyone involved. But Sam thought this just might be the start of something. The start of a slow burn.

1 with Matthew Tkachuk possibly if you want to?
Thanks for requesting this one, anon! I had a lot of fun writing this one – maybe I should write more for him in the future?
Tagging @danglesnipecelly for getting me on the Matthew Tkachuk train the first place! 😘
“You owe me.” “Fine, whatever you want.”
*
Summer. The start of warmer weather, longer nights, ice-cream dripping down your fingers, the happiness that only true sunshine could bring. It also meant gatherings of friends from far and wide, those still living at home in St Louis like you, or those who ventured out of state and further afield. Friends whose lives had taken then far away from home, but the lure of summer always brought them back. Friends, like your neighbour Matthew Tkachuk.
You’d already seen him a couple of times since he arrived home a few days ago, a wave from your house next door and a pizza night when Taryn had come back home too yesterday, but you couldn’t wait for summer to sink into his bones, to give him that freedom he’d been missing too.
That’s when summer would really start.
Growing up, he’d always had that big brother vibe, despite you only being a couple of months younger than him, and you were glad for his steady friendship. But for the past few summers, things had changed slightly. Those friendly brotherly vibes had shifted, the airs of childhood having long faded away, and a teasing playful vibe had turned up in its place. Summer had never lasted long enough for you to figure out how you felt about this change, to be honest. But you were hoping that this was the year, this was when you finally figured out what it all meant.
You were sitting in your room, putting away some laundry when your phone buzzed with a call. The Best Tkachuk. Huh.
“Hey, Matty, what’s up?” you said, smiling.
“Hey, I need your help,”
Woah.
“What’s wrong? What happened? Are you hurt?” you frowned, dropping the last of your clean socks onto the floor.
“Oh, no, no I’m fine. Well, I’m stressed out because I’m trying to do this dinner thing and…damn it, can you drive me to the grocery store?”
“Why don’t you take your mom’s car? Or the car that you and Brady are sharing?” you asked, confused.
“Mom and Dad took Taryn out to the mall to get some new sneakers. And Brady took off in the car to see that girl he’s sneaking around with that he thinks we don’t know about,”
Oh yeah, Brady was super obvious.
“There’s a grocery store you can walk to in 15 minutes, Matty,” you mused, rolling your eyes.
“I went to that one yesterday and I thought I picked up everything on my list but I missed an ingredient because they didn’t have it,”
His voice was getting a little petulant, a whining tone, making you grin. You were going to help him, obviously, but it didn’t hurt to make him work for it.
“And I should help you…why?” you said simply.
“Because if I screw this up when I said I didn’t need any help then Brady and Taryn will never let me hear the end of it!”
“Again, why should I help you?” you teased.
Matthew groaned down the phone, making you smile.
“Because Brady chopped off your favourite Barbie’s hair when we were kids and Taryn scratched up your 13th birthday CD?”
He had a point…
“Try again,” you grinned.
“Because you’ll have my everlasting gratitude?”
“Hmm…”
You trailed off, pretending to think, earning another groan, although you were pretty sure he’d figured out your game by this point.
“Please?”
The softness of his voice made butterflies fizzle in your stomach at the vulnerability. How could you say not to him?
“Yeah, I’ll take you to the grocery store, Matty. Let me put on some shoes,” you said, smiling.
“Thank you, so much,”
You just laughed, shaking your head. “You owe me,”
“Fine, whatever you want,”
“Ooh that could be dangerous,” you teased.
“I can handle it,”
You grinned at what you knew was a smirk in his voice. This was much more like it. “I’ll see you in just a minute,”
And with that, you ended the call. It didn’t take long for you to get some shoes on, and by the time you were downstairs, Matthew was waiting by the car. You bit your lip to hide your smile at how good he looked, sleeveless shirt exposing those sculpted arms, beautiful eyes dangerously focused, hair mussed and wild. Damn. You wiggled your fingers at him in a wave, smile coming through properly at the look of relief on his face.
“You’re a lifesaver,” he groaned, getting in the passenger seat of your car.
“I know,” you mused, “What went wrong?”
Matthew huffed out a laugh, running a hand over his messy hair as you pulled out of your driveway. “You know how mom always throws the big neighbourhood get-together when me, Brady and Taryn are all home for the summer?”
You nodded, knowing it well. “Yeah it’s this weekend, right?”
“Right! Well, I said that I would cook for the family tonight, give her a night off before the big party,”
“She does deserve the rest,” you nodded.
God knows that poor woman put up with enough thanks to all those big personalities.
“Exactly! She deserves it. I got the recipes for her favourite foods, and I planned it all out properly because I want to make it special for her, but I literally forgot the key ingredient for the spices in the main dish and it won’t be the same without it,” he grumbled.
“That’s really sweet of you, Matty. You’re a good son,” you said softly.
“I try,” he mumbled, blushing lightly at your compliment, “But if I don’t get it right then Brady and Taryn will make fun of me for ages,”
“I don’t know how your mom puts up with all of you, really,” you snorted.
Matthew blushed a little more, but laughed. “Yeah, I know we’re a bit much. You love me anyway, right?”
“Don’t push your luck, Tkachuk,” you said dryly.
When Matthew pouted, you just laughed, shaking your head. Having grown up next door to the Tkachuk family had always been a loud intense ride, but your friendship with Matthew, especially now that he’d settled more into himself, was something you cherished. And it was times like this, when he went out of his way to make his mom happy, that reminded you of just how sweet he was. You may only really see him in the summer now, your lives having taken you in different directions, but you missed him like this.
“You know she’ll love it, whatever you make, because you made it, right?” you pointed out.
Matthew smiled, a little shyly, but shrugged. “I’d hope so…but I still want to do it well,”
“There’s the Tkachuk fighting spirit talking,” you laughed, pulling into the parking lot of the grocery store.
Matthew laughed as well, a bit more of his usual sparkle coming into his eyes as you parked the car.
“I’ll be really quick, I promise,” he grinned, unbuckling his seatbelt.
“Yeah no worries, take as long as you need. Just remember that you owe me, Matty,” you grinned back.
You saw a flash of fire in Matthew’s eyes, making those butterflies flare up again, but you managed to keep your face calm and collected.
“Oh I haven’t forgotten, trust me,” he murmured.
He winked as he walked towards the store, that little smirk on his face that you loved, leaving you a little stunned before you shook your head with a laugh. Looks like you had a lot of thinking to do before the big party this weekend.

Brownies ~ Rafe Cameron
Blurb: You have a craving for brownies at 2 AM and your boyfriend Rafe helps you make them.
Word Count: 1,598
Warnings: uh swearing. I'm pretty sure that's it
~~~~~~~
You sat on your boyfriends bed, scrolling through your phone as you tried to find a brownie recipe that caught your eye.
You were spending the night at Tanneyhill since the rest of the family had decided to take a weekend trip to the mainland. Rafe declined, deciding that there was no way in hell he could survive a weekend with his family.
So here you were.
It was midnight, Rafe had fallen asleep hours ago, but you just couldn't. Not with the craving of brownies as intense as it was.
You smiled as you found a recipe for caramel brownies that looked delicious and bookmarked the page so you could make them when it was a reasonable time.
You sighed, beginning to lay down but Rafe's voice scared you.
"You good, Y/N/N?" He mumbled, his back to you. You were about to answer when your stomach growled, causing Rafe to turn his head towards you, an amused expression on his face. "Or is someone a bit hungry?" He chuckled.
You smacked his shoulder. "Shut up. I've been thinking about brownies for the past two and a half hours at least." You replied sheepishly.
"And whats stopping you from making brownies?"
"I know damn well the only brownies Rose has in this place are from the box and I want to make them from scratch."
Rafe sat up and looked at you. "Then why don't we go get what we need to make them from scratch?" He grinned.
You shook your head. "No. We don't have to. It's late and you were sleeping and it's ridiculous to make them right now-"
Rafe placed his hand over your mouth. "It's never too late for brownies, baby." He smirked before getting up, tossing you one of his hoodies before pulling on a different one.
You grinned as you pulled on the hoodie before getting out of Rafe's bed, extremely grateful you wore slip-on shoes today as you quickly pulled them on.
You and Rafe ran downstairs before throwing open the front door, Rafe grabbing his keys as you did, and you raced to his truck, climbing in. You buckled yourself in as you waited for Rafe to finish locking the door.
Rafe opened the driver’s side door and slid in easily, buckling himself in before shoving the keys into the ignition and starting the truck.
"Buckled in, sweetheart?" He glanced over and you nodded as his hand found it's home on your thigh, the smile on your face growing. "Then let's get this show on the road."
During the ride to the nearest Wal-Mart, you grabbed the little notebook and pen Rafe kept in the glovebox and wrote down what you needed to get as the radio played softly in the background.
You looked over at Rafe with a small smile and he glanced at you.
“What?”
You shrugged. “Nothing. Just admiring you.”
You saw Rafe blush. “Well, stop. You’re distracting me and I don’t want to crash with precious cargo in the car.”
You felt your heart speed up. “Awe, Rafe, baby.” You cooed, resting your head on his arm.
Rafe shook his head with a chuckle. “Don’t make a big deal out of it. It’s not like this is a new development.”
“I know but still. You shock me sometimes.”
“I hope it’s a good shock.” Rafe laughed as he pulled into the nearly empty parking lot and easily pulled into a spot near the door.
“Of course it’s a good shock you silly billy.” You answered, leaning over to kiss his cheek before unbuckling your seat belt and hopping out.
Rafe followed your actions and easily fell into step next to you, grabbing your hand. Rafe grabbed a cart, leaning against it as he pushed it into the store and towards the grocery section.
"Alright, baby. What do we need?"
“Butter, sugar, eggs, vanilla extract, unsweetened cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder. Plus, caramel cause I want to add caramel.” You listed off as you looked at the little notebook in your hand.
“Of course you do.” He chuckled and you swatted him with the notebook.
“Shut up. If there’s anything better than brownies, it’s caramel brownies.”
Rafe shook his head before you lead the way down the aisles, picking up each ingredient and placing it into the cart.
As you crossed the last item off the list Rafe began heading to the home section. You raised your eyebrows as you followed him, stopping in front of the wafflemakers before grabbing one and placing it next to the groceries.
“Why are you buying a wafflemaker?” You asked.
“Cause every time you spend the night, Y/N, you want waffles for breakfast so we go out and get waffles. Now, we can make them at home.” He grinned, looking at you.
“Correction, We can make waffles at your home since it’ll be at your house.” You pointed out.
“Good observation.” He nodded before grabbing another waffle maker and adding it to the cart. “Now, we can make waffles at both of our homes and we have matching waffle makers.”
“Rafe Cameron, I am not letting you buy me a waffle maker.” You scolded, grabbing one of the boxes to put it back.
“Then I guess we will just have to move in together in order for both of us to have waffles.” He smirked before kissing your cheek and turning around to head to self-checkout.
You blushed slightly before following, looping your arm through his and resting your head on his upper arm as you walked with him. “You’d really want to move in with me?”
He nodded. “Yeah. Who else is gonna make sure you don’t accidentally cut your finger off while cooking. Someone’s gotta make sure you stay in one piece baby.”  Rafe pressed a kiss to the top of your head.
You rolled your eyes at his reasoning before walking in front of the cart as you approached the self-checkout lanes. You scanned the items and Rafe pulled out his card, paying for it as soon as the last item was in the bag. He grabbed the receipt before tossing it into a bag and grabbing one of the plastic bags.
“Thank you for taking me to Wal-Mart at a ridiculous time just to get things for brownies and thank you for paying. And thanks for buying a waffle maker cause you know how much I love waffles. You’re the best baby” You grinned as you walked ahead of him, turning around so you could face him.
“Anytime bubs. Just know that this means I get the first brownie out of the pan.” He winked.
You walked up to him and pressed a quick kiss to his lips. “I knew there would be a catch.”
An hour later, you sat on the counter at Tanneyhill, scraping the bowl clean of batter as you waited impatiently for the brownies to bake. Rafe leaned against the island, smiling as he watched you.
***
Rafe swiped some batter earlier multiple times, hence why you got the bowl. That was apparently a rule in your house but he was positive that you were making that shit up. Who has a rule about whoever swipes batter during the baking process, doesn’t get to lick the bowl, spoons, beaters, etc?
Supposedly, your nana.
Rafe would just have to ask nana Y/L/N at the next family function.
“What?” You asked, looking at your boyfriend as you licked the spatula clean before going back to scrape some more batter out.
“You got something right here,” He leaned over and took his finger, wiping your chin before popping his finger into his mouth.
You scrunched up your nose. “Gross, Rafe. That was on my face.”
“So? I’ve kissed you when you’ve had a crying session and snot was running out of your nose.” He shrugged.
You rolled your eyes before glancing at the timer next to you.
Three more minutes.
“You know, I could get used to this.”
“Hmm?”
“This. Me and you, in our own place, making food at an unreasonable time, a cat or a dog running around. Maybe a couple of kids in the future if you want them.” You stared at Rafe which caused him to get nervous. “Only if you want them because I’m, obviously, not going to be the one carrying them for all those months and delivering them and-”
“Rafe,” You cut him off from his rambling, “Your genes are way too good to let go to waste. Of course, I would love to have kids with you in the future.” You reassured him.
He smiled. “No, sweetheart. Your genes are way better than mine.” He argued.
You got down from the counter and wrapped your arms around his neck and he slid his own around your waist. “Either way then, our kids are gonna be fucking gorgeous.”
“Damn straight.” He smirked, kissing your lips as the timer went off.
Rafe’s grip tightened on you as you attempted to pull away and you groaned. “Rafe, I am not in the mood to wait another hour and a half for brownies. Please let me go so they don’t burn.”
“Since you asked politely,” Rafe gave you one last kiss before letting you go and you immediately grabbed the oven mitts. "Actually," He took the oven mitts from your hands and slid them onto his hands, turning off the oven before opening it to pull out the pan.
"I think I can take a pan out of an oven."
"Not without burning yourself you can't."
Ralvez x Reader (polyam)
Authors Note: I know this is a bit short, but I wanted to get this out soon. I also have finals that I'm studying for so it's a but shorter than most of my fics. I also saw that a lot of people had only Ralvez x Reader smut and I know that's what most people probably want. I just wanted to do something different but I will write that in the near future. I also don't know a lot a lot about polyamory, but I did look up some stuff up just to get a sense of different dynamics. Also thanks to the anon who requested this.
Content Warning: past toxic relationship (very very brief mention), slight age gap
Word Count: 1.2k
Tumblr media
Most people are lucky to have a significant other that is perfect for them, so I must have the world's best luck to not only have one but two seemingly perfect boyfriends. We've always worked in perfect harmony. I think Luke and Spencer always appreciated that they could come home to a house that's full of life and not some empty apartment. They get to come home to me and the dogs now. At first, it was Luke and Spencer, upon meeting they clicked instantly. When Spencer went to prison they were already together, but they didn't tell their team because it was so early. Luke had to take some pretty drastic measures to ensure Spencer's safety. It bonded them even more than before. They're so close and that's why when we all started dating I was nervous because they were already so close. I was scared of the same possible jealousy from a previous polyamorous relationship I was in years before. I was also worried because I was only twenty-eight, and they both have a bit on me when it comes to age. Despite all of the possible ways, this could go wrong it didn't. They both treat me with the utmost respect, and we are all truly equal.
Even though I met Luke casually first, Spencer and I are more similar. Luke likes to call us both dorks, yet he's still here putting up with our dorkiness. When I first met the boys they were going through a rough patch. Spencer was yet to be reinstated into the BAU, and he was still getting adjusted to life as it was before. Luke also had to take some time off to help out Spencer and that's when they told the team. Since they had so much free time Luke found a new hiking trail he took Roxy on every day that was pretty close to Spencer's apartment at the time.
I also happened to be new to the area and I decided to take my bloodhound Bruno for a run every Saturday and Sunday. That's where I first bumped into Luke, but it wouldn't be the last. I was running with Bruno trailing behind me only by a little bit. I remember the crisp cool air hitting my face as we both ran on the trail with leaves crunching under us. Once I got into a clearing I decided to take a quick drink break. When I stopped I looked over and saw Luke for the first time. Roxy wasn't far behind him, and she ran right past him. She then turned around stuck her but in the air with her front closer to the ground, and started wagging her tail like she was challenging him.
"Hey come over here show off!" He called out to her. Patting his leg and then adjusting his baseball cap.
I giggled at how he talked to his dog like you would your kid. He must've heard me because he turned to me and flashed a big smile.
"Hey, I'm Luke and this is Roxy," he said before he walked over to me and gestured towards Roxy.
"Hi, I'm (Y/N) and this is Bruno."
"Well, it's nice to meet you two," he says before bending down and scratching the top of my dog's head. Luke must've found a scratchy spot behind Bruno's ear because he started kicking his back leg relentlessly before falling onto his side like a goof. We both giggle, and we find ourselves walking together out to the end of the trail.
"So I haven't seen you here before granted I haven't been jogging here for long either."
"Oh yeah I just moved to the area for my new job and this is my first time going on this specific trail," I tell him.
"That's nice where do you work?"
"I work for CPS, how about you?"
"I work for the FBI the BAU to be specific," he says with a proud smile on his face.
That memory will live with me forever because this brings me to today. I'm in the kitchen cooking with Luke as we playfully bicker as to what we're going to make for dinner. Spencer quickly flips through all of the recipe books and reads off any dishes that we have ingredients for. Luke seemingly gets impatient after a while and decides to kick him out. He's definitely the most impatient and stubborn one out of all of us. I'm the most impulsive and Spencer is the healthy medium that keeps us from spiraling into chaos.
"You know what this is my kitchen. This is basically my personal space. (Y/N) you have your art room and Spencer you have your office. This is my space and now I hereby kick the peasants out." Luke jokingly says as the dogs, Spencer, and I all give him very unamused looks.
"Didn't you hear me?"
"Oh yeah trust me we all heard you. I'm just choosing to ignore you," I spit back and Spencer gets tired of our daily banter about dinner. I know we do this everyday but it never gets old how me and Luke bicker like an old married couple. I know deep down Luke finds it very amusing that I try and fight back a little bit even though it means I never win the argument in the end. I normally end up winning in a different type of way though.
Spencer walks off towards the living room and both of our dogs follow him clearly just as done with the playful arguing. I decide I'm going to start on dinner while Luke is distracted, but I don't get far because as I'm about to reach for the fridge he picks me up by my waist and throws me over his shoulder. I scream and shout as I wiggle my legs trying to escape in any sort of way. The dogs start barking and running around the house, and he carries me to the living room.
Spencer has a horrified look on his face. I can practically hear him thinking about all of the different possibilities of us breaking something. I scream and kick while laughing so hard that I start crying. Luke throws me onto the couch next to Spencer and lets me catch my breath. I start to catch my breath right before Spencer starts mercilessly tickling me. Roxy and Bruno become spectators in me getting tickle torture from now both of my boyfriends. The dogs start to jump on and off the couch as we all start shouting once more. We all take a moment for a breather once more and we all slump over one another on the couch.
"There have you learned your lesson to not mess with my kitchen space," Luke asks after we all stop for a breath.
"Yeah, but only if we can compromise and order pizza."
"Deal"
That's how I spent the rest of my night, with both of my boys and our dogs cuddled up on the couch. Eating pizza and arguing over what movie were going to watch. I swear the bickering really does never end.
Don’t Be Cruel
(Ler! Venti/ Lee! Xiao) Platonic
Summary: Venti has had enough of Xiao’s aloof attitude and decides to seek manners into his own hands.
“Ugh! I just hate that guy!” Venti squeals in frustration throwing away tonight’s dinner.
“Well, the almond tofu you made was disgusting.” Aether couldn’t help but make a face.
The bi color haired boy threw a small dinner party for Chongyun and his boyfriend Xiao. He spent days studying the different types recipes and ingredients of Almond tofu hoping to cook it right to Xiao’s taste. Though the raven thought otherwise spitting the food back onto the plate and dumping it in the trash can.
“But he didn’t have to be rude about it!” Venti snaps crossing his arms against his chest. “There were other times he was mean to me too! Like how he doesn’t wait for me whenever we get assigned to do missions together and how he sometimes shoves me whenever I’m in his way. I don’t get what Chongyun sees in that asshole.”
“I think you’re just overreacting, sweetie.” Aether smiles at his friend placing his hands on his shoulders.
“I want to get back at him so bad.” Venti clenches his fists pulling away from Aether’s grasps.
“That’s it!” The bi color haired boy shrieks as a light bulb flashes in his head. “I’m going to torture him! Yeah!”
“Um, you’re not going to actually hurt him right?” Aether gives the other a hopeful look.
“No, I’m just going to make him suffer in a way he hasn’t before.” Venti smirks holding his hands behind his back walking into his room to commence his plan.
Hey, can you get Xiao to wear that one outfit where it’s like he’s wearing overalls and a crop top? Venti texts Chongyun the following morning.
Why?????? The blunette responds a couple seconds later confused by the bi color haired boy’s intentions.
I just think he looks snazzy in it. Please! Venti makes up the quickest excuse without sounding like a complete idiot.
Fine, I will try. Is all the blunette texts back and Venti hopes Chongyun goes through with the plan.
The bi color haired boy runs across a certain unlucky friend in Mondstat.
“Hey Benny!” Venti smiles at the white haired boy.
“Oh hey!”
“So like you’re strong, aren’t you?” He questions raising an eyebrow at the other.
“Um sure, I think so? What do you need?” Bennett taps his chin glancing up at the sky.
“I need you to help me with something. All you have to do is hold my target down while I torture him.” An evil smirk crawls onto Venti’s face and Bennett backs away with horror.
“I can’t help commit a murder sorry.”
“No, no! It’s not the kind of job you think it is!” Venti grips Bennett’s wrists not wanting to lose sight of him.
“Can I at least have some more information?”
“I just want to tickle Xiao but you can’t tell anyone.” Venti holds a finger up to Bennett’s lips.
“Xiao? Why him? To be honest, I think he’s the hardest to break. He doesn’t smile at all and I doubt he knows how to laugh.” Bennett tilts his head like a dog not understanding Venti.
“Cause he’s an asshole that needs to be taught a lesson! Now are you going to help me or what?” The bi color haired boy impatiently taps his foot.
Bennett agrees to be of Venti’s service as they meet up with Xiao for their mission.
“Why are you here?” The raven stares up at Bennett with a sharp glare.
“Oh uh erm Venti asked me to tag along. In case any of you guys need healing.” Bennett chuckles rubbing his arm, hoping not to reveal too much of Venti’s plan.
“We don’t need your healing.” Xiao scoffs at the white haired boy before turning on his heel.
“I see what you mean now.” Bennett whispers to the other giving Xiao the side eye.
Venti couldn’t help but notice the bare skin on Xiao’s lower back as they walk behind him. He wondered how much the blunette begged for Xiao to wear the said outfit.
“When I say the time is right, I want you to tackle him.” Venti whispers to the white haired boy watching Xiao stroll far past ahead of them.
“I don’t want him to hurt me.” Bennett pouts at the bard.
“He won’t. I promise, just trust me.” Venti shakes his head catching up to the raven.
They find their designated group of Hilichurls they needed to defeat by a shipping port.
“You go first.” Xiao nudges Venti on the shoulder.
“Why me?” Venti cowers holding his arms above his head.
“So you can suck up all the enemies together while your weird friend and me will finish them.” The raven explains to the other and Venti lets out a sigh knowing he was right.
“Weird?” Benett raises an eyebrow at Xiao wondering what he did to deserve that title.
The bi color haired boy launches a wind current towards the oblivious hilichurls gathering them in a tornado. Both Bennett and Xiao Storm towards the enemies not even giving them a chance to stand or process what was happening.
“I think that’s the fastest we ever took down a mob.” Venti comments skipping towards the two boys.
“I’m out of here since the job is done.” Xiao holds up a hand strolling the other way.
“What!? No, you can’t go! Let’s hangout! The three of us.” Venti links arms with the raven and Xiao groans trying to get out of his grasp.
“I can think of a hundred reasons why we shouldn’t.” He sends Venti a cold look.
Now. Venti mouthed to the white haired boy and Bennett lunges at Xiao wrapping his arms around his waist as they tumble to the grass.
“Get off me! What is wrong with you?!” Xiao shouts underneath Bennett’s weight trying to shove him off.
“You’re gonna get a taste of your own medicine.” Venti giggles at the struggling raven before handcuffing his wrists and that was Bennett’s cue to let go of the other.
“You better tell me what’s going on or I’m going to rip your head off.” Xiao growls at the bard. If looks can kill, Venti would be dead by now.
“Just some cold revenge.” Venti cracks his knuckles slowly trailing his fingers along Xiao’s bare sides.
“Hey! Stop that!” The raven couldn’t help but crack a small smile flinching from Venti’s touch.
“Aww, does someone have sensitive sides?” The bi color haired boy teases playfully squeezing at Xiao’s waist.
An abrupt squeal escapes Xiao’s lips trying to face away from Venti though the bi color haired boy continues to tickle his bare sides.
“You should hold his legs so he doesn’t kick me.” Venti orders to Bennett as Xiao kept flailing his legs all over the place hoping to escape.
“Ow!” The white haired boy yelps falling onto his back after Xiao had struck him across the face with his boot. For such a small body, the raven had a powerful hit.
“Never mind! Hold his arms above his head.” Venti ordered glancing at the Bennett’s bloody nose and the white haired boy huffs under his breath.
“Let go of me!” The fiesty raven struggles under Bennett’s hold, even with handcuffs, the white haired boy can barely keep up with Xiao. They honestly needed another person for help.
Xiao’s aggressive twisting and turning comes to halt when the bi color haired boy digs his fingers into his bare armpits. With Bennett holding his arms, the poor raven was defenseless at this point. Xiao’s giggling and squealing fills the atmosphere and Venti didn’t know the stoic raven could make these kinds of sounds.
“Ahaha! Please stop!”
Venti scratches at a delicate patch of skin near Xiao’s hip bones making the raven cry.
“You’re gonna have to beg harder than that.” The bi color haired boy gives him a smug look shaking his head continuing to tease the flesh below his waist.
The raven was a laughing mess, too weak from laughter to pull away from Bennett.
“Don’t you think he’s had enough?” Bennett questions in between Xiao’s squeals watching Venti squeeze at Xiao’s lower ribs.
“We haven’t even gotten to the good part.” Venti rolls his eyes at the white haired boy and Bennet couldn’t help but feel sympathy for Xiao.
“No, no, please not there.” Xiao lets out a whine that makes Venti almost emit a wave of guiltiness. No, this is what he wants you to do.
“Wow, please two times in a row? Maybe you can be nice!” Venti jokes at the crying raven as his fingers reach dangerously close to the raven’s abdomen.
A shriek escapes from Xiao’s lips feeling Venti’s fingers flutter across his tummy and Bennett grows startle at Xiao’s vigorous writhing.
“Hold him.” Venti bosses at Bennett who almost lost grip of Xiao.
“Argh, he’s strong.” Bennett hisses doing his best to contain Xiao’s flails.
“I’ll be nice ahaha I promise.” Xiao wheezes in between laughter though Venti seems skeptical of the raven’s intentions.
“I’m not totally convinced yet. How do I know you’ll change once I let you go?” Venti raises an eyebrow before squeezing the sides of the raven’s tummy with his thumbs and Xiao squeals arching his back.
“I’ll change!” He fights back once again though Bennett was prepared to keep him still not wanting to make Venti furious.
“Hmmm, you’re not going to be mean to me anymore?” Venti playfully hums loving the reaction of Xiao begging and hollering when he dips a finger in his navel.
“I won’t! I swear!” Xiao whimpers as a tear rolls down his cheek.
Venti finally gets off of the raven letting Xiao catch his breath.
“Can you take this off me?” The raven quietly asks feeling embarrassed. “Please?”
“Why, certainly!” Venti giggles getting on his knees uncuffing Xiao.
“Sorry about your nose.” Xiao apologizes to Bennett refusing to look him in the eye.
“Oh it’s fine, it stopped bleeding.” Bennett smiles shaking the other off.
“Hey Xiao, you’re pretty cute when your smiling. I see why Chongyun likes you now.” Venti taunts the raven pondering how long this kind facade will last.
“Erm, thanks.” Is all the raven says as a small blush appears on his pale cheeks.
The boys part ways, Xiao going back to Wangshu inn and Venti and Bennett to Mondstat.
“Do you think he’ll stay that way?” Bennett curiously asks the bi color haired boy on the walk towards the city.
“Something tells me he will.” Venti throws his head back as a evil chuckle escapes his lips.
Bixbite’s Perfect Pizzas
Here’s how to make pizza from scratch--Bixbite’s way!
Includes veggie pepperoni and a fish made out of banana bread because your chef is a vegetarian
Recipe inspired by pizzas pictured in Steven Universe Future: “Guidance”!
See more SU food tutorials!
I can't chop ingredients instantaneously like Bixbite, but I know how to make a pizza.
Tumblr media
There's one thing I will not be doing authentically; that pizza has a big old whole fish on it. I'm vegetarian so I will be including a fish made out of bread.
Tumblr media
Pizza dough has to rise so I recommend making the pizza dough first and then making a bread fish during the rise time.
Part One: Recipe for Two Pizzas
I have taught pizza-making on this site before! I'll simply repeat my recipe for Fish Stew Pizza with a few tweaks.
Ingredients:
1 cup warm water, 110º F to 115º F / 43º C to 46º C
2 tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon active dry yeast
¼ cup vegetable oil
1 teaspoon salt
2 to 2 ½ cups flour
Tumblr media
Get the water ready. Make sure you take the water’s temperature. If it’s not hot enough you could fail to activate the yeast, and if it’s too hot, you’ll kill it.
Tumblr media
Pour your sugar into a bowl. Add the warm water and stir it until the sugar dissolves. Then pour in your yeast and stir it up, and leave it alone for about 10 minutes. The yeast will foam and puff up.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Combine your ¼ cup of vegetable oil with your 1 teaspoon of salt and ¾ cup of flour. Once it's mixed, add the yeast and stir until smooth.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It will be sticky. From here add another cup of flour, work that in with the fork, and begin adding more flour in increments of ¼ cup until you have a dough that is the right consistency. You are looking for handleable, non-sticky dough, but it should be very malleable and soft, without becoming crusty.
Tumblr media
You’ll need to work that dough for 8 to 10 minutes. Knead it in the bowl until the time is up.
Tumblr media
And then you put the bowl in a warm spot and cover it to let it rise. It should take at least 45 minutes to double, but it's fine if you leave it up to 1.5 hours.
Tumblr media
This is where you can jump to the bread fish if you like. I will continue explaining how to get through to prepared unbaked crusts here.
Punch the dough down.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You will now divide the dough in two. This recipe makes two pizzas. In this recipe, one with be the fish and veggies pizza and one will be a pepperoni pizza as pictured with Bixbite.
Take your one ball of dough and begin to spread it out on a 12-inch pizza pan.
A really helpful tip for this dough: You should roll the dough out from the middle of the pan using the heels of your hands. Do NOT stretch the dough–it tears. Do not pinch the dough’s bubbles or pick up pieces of it to plug holes. Do not throw it in the air. Little by little, press and roll until it begins to spread out toward the edges of the pan.
You should try to leave a little border for the crust.
Tumblr media
Normally, what follows here is pizza sauce, cheese, and toppings. So that's where we stop and move to how to make the fish!
Part Two: Bread Fish
Disclaimer: I do not recommend actually using this as a pizza topping. This is just for fun.
Folks, because it holds its shape well and is moist, we're going with BANANA BREAD for our fish!
Ingredients:
1 1/4 cups sugar
1/2 cup (1 stick) margarine or butter, softened
2 large eggs
1 3/4 cup mashed ripe bananas (4-5 medium bananas)
1/2 cup milk
2 teaspoons lemon juice
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
Tumblr media
And you'll need a fish-shaped pan! Some of these types of pans are only for jello and aren't made for the oven so be careful to properly investigate which kind of pan you have.
Instructions:
Preheat oven to 350° F / 175° C. Put a little oil in your pan and spread evenly. In a large bowl, cream the sugar and butter, mixing together into a rough even mix. Add in the eggs.
Tumblr media
Peel the bananas and press into goop with a fork or use an appliance of your choice to whip them. Get just under 2 cups--doesn't have to be an exact science.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Add bananas, milk, lemon juice, and vanilla, and beat until smooth.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then add flour, baking soda, and salt.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pour into the pan. Bake for 35 to 40 minutes.
Tumblr media
Note: don't fill the pan too full. I was able to make a half dozen banana muffins (baked at 25 minutes) in addition.
Tumblr media
When it comes out, cool for 5 minutes in the pan on a rack. Then turn onto the rack to cool fully. It should come out easily if you greased well, but if it's still sticking, try a frosting knife to pry it out.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The fish is ready to be a topping!
Part Three: Dressing the Pizzas
Once you've got your crusts ready, you want to start with pizza sauce and cheese.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now, Bixbite demonstrates her amazing even cutting technique on a pepperoni pizza. Which means the pepperoni pizza was cooked and prepared first. It's the easy one, so let's do that.
Tumblr media
I put pepperoni (in my case, Yves brand vegetarian pepperoni) on the pizza, added more cheese, and topped with more pepperoni! Then I baked it at 350° F / 175° C for about half an hour.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After it came out and cooled a bit, I took a cue from Bixbite and Amethyst's evaluation of her precision cuts and used tools to measure my angles.
Tumblr media
Lookit that 'za, brah.
Tumblr media
Next is the more complicated one. Let's have a look at what, besides the fish, we are putting on Bixbite's pizza.
Tumblr media
Okay! We have a cucumber (weird!), mushrooms, a red pepper, garlic, and a red onion.
I can do that!
Tumblr media
But now it will be a bit of a journey to do what Bixbite did.
Tumblr media
Right. So...the fish gets sliced in horizontal cuts. Easy enough.
Tumblr media
Pepper, onion, cucumber, and mushrooms are easily sliced the way they're portrayed here. I'll do that first. (Cut out and discard center pulp from the red pepper before you use it.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The garlic's not so simple because you can't just chop the whole thing up into bits like that straight from the bulb. (At least, you shouldn't.) Here's a mini-lesson on preparing fresh garlic:
1. Peel as much of the papery exterior off as you can
2. Pry the individual cloves apart; whack them with the side of your knife if necessary
3. Chop off the tip of each clove and press each under your knife with a couple whacks to loosen the clove skin, and peel
4. Chop garlic into slices, then cubes, then rock your knife over the pieces to mince
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Okay! Add all the veggies to the pizza!
Tumblr media
Add fish too, lol
Tumblr media
Sorry, I'm not gonna actually bake the pizza with bread on it again. We'll have to pretend. Looks delicious after cooking with just the veggies!
Tumblr media
And that's how you make a pizza like Bixbite! I hope you enjoyed that!
I love you (not) - Chapter 8
Somehow, this went over the 2k words mark. No wonder I'm running late on @marichatmay now. Oops? (I guess I just really like writing cooking scenes)
Hope you enjoy!
Chapter 8: In which the kids think about kissing each other a lot, but it's still too early
Chat Noir’s heart was heavy as he made his way towards Marinette’s place.
He knew that his decision to break up with her was the right one; he’d kept up the charade long enough, and he wasn’t comfortable with the fact that she was reaching out for him through Ladybug. They’d undeniably spent some nice moments together, the memory of which he cherished dearly, but he was afraid that Marinette was getting too confident about the strength of their relationship (and the fact that he found himself thinking about her a lot hadn’t been an argument in favour of not playing along a little longer).
His already cloudy mood had further been dampened by the really sucky day he’d had. His father had come up with yet another fashion shoot, which had prevented him from attending the Kitty Section rehearsal he’d been looking forward to all week. Then, Lila had managed to get them paired up for a History project, which he wouldn’t have minded too much had it not been for the fact that she’d bragged all morning about a trip to New York she’d be making the week they were supposed to work on the task, meaning that he’d have to do all the work himself. Finally, to top everything off, an Akuma had interrupted the only free period he had for the rest of the week; it had been nice to see Ladybug, but he wished he’d used the time to collect his thoughts and rehearse what he’d say to Marinette.
He landed on her balcony with a loud thump, and knocked on her skylight.
“Just a minute!” she called out, and he heard her rifle around her room before running up her ladder and opening her skylight.
“Hi,” she beamed, slightly flushed and breathless, as she ushered him in.
He felt his heart clench in his chest. He wasn’t sure if it was better that she seemed in a great mood, but he didn’t have time to ponder on the topic too much; she tugged him down the stairs, and all but pushed him on her chaise, before reverently presenting him with a wrapped package.
“Happy birthday, kitty.” She bit her lip, anxiously waiting for him to open it.
Chat Noir toyed with it. He’d been so busy in the past week that his lie about his birthday had completely slipped his mind. He found himself in a difficult situation. Either he could come clean to her about his intentions, and apologise about everything he’d put her through, or… He could open Marinette’s present. Which, knowing her, would be very thoughtful and amazing. She looked very excited about it.
The temptation was too great.
“You remembered!” He gave her a small smile as his claws gently tore through the tape, and found himself with a neatly folded knitted, black product on his knees. He got up and held it out before him; he had to lift it for it not to drag on the floor, it was so long. She hadn’t just seen something that made her think about him. She must have spent ages working on it. For him .
The bright green paw in the middle, associated with the matching cotton sheet that lined the blanket left little doubt as to that fact.
Marinette’s smile falling and her rambling snapped him out from his silent admiration of the gift. He engulfed her in a hug, holding her close to compensate for his speechlessness.
“It’s purr-fect, Princess,” he croaked, letting go of her and clutching the blanket again. “I mean, look at this stitching; how did you manage to get it so regular? And this yarn…” He purred as he rubbed it against his cheek. “It’s so soft.”
“Well, you deserve something that isn’t scratchy,” Marinette giggled.
“But you didn’t have to go so hard on this! This could almost be… A cape!” He wrapped it around his shoulders, holding its two top corners with one hand, and bowed before her. “Your knight at your service, Princess.” He took her hand and kissed it with a wink, before immediately standing up and wrapping it around him differently, therefore missing Marinette’s tension and flush. “It works as a toga, too!”
“A very historically accurate one at that,” Marinette snorted.
“Hey, you don’t know what my predecessors wore.” He crossed his arms over his chest. The top of his makeshift toga fell over them. Marinette grabbed a couple of safety pins and moved closer to him to secure it back.
“Yes, you’re right. I’m utterly ignorant when it comes to past Miraculous wielders,” she said as she did so. “Mind teaching me about them?” She looked up at him. She was very close, for the second time in the evening, her eyes glinting mischievously in the almost half-light.
His breath hitched as the thought that he’d only have to lean in a tiny bit to kiss her curious smile off her lips crossed his mind.
His stomach rumbled, then, and he jumped back, feeling his cheeks redden. He was about to use it as an excuse to leave when he noticed the colours had drained from Marinette’s face.
“I’m so sorry Chat! I forgot to make you some macarons!” She gasped.
He almost laughed at how cute she was, but smiled tenderly instead, and held her shoulders. “Marinette, you made me a full blanket yourself in one week. I’m good without the macarons.”
“But you don’t have a birthday cake, and you’re hungry, and ugh, how could I forget...” She rubbed her eyes frustratedly.
His stomach manifested itself again, proving her point. With all his interruptions, he wasn’t sure he’d eaten more than an apple since breakfast. He really should be going to right that wrong.
“Okay, that settles it.” She grabbed his hand and pulled him towards her trap door. He quickly stepped out of the blanket and tossed it back on her chaise; it wasn't very practical to walk in. Her voice dropped to a whisper as she started to open it. “My parents are sleeping, I think, so we’ll go down to the bakery kitchen. We’ll need to be quiet, though.”
“Okay,” he whispered back.
They cautiously sneaked down the stairs, stopping at any floorboard creak, hearts racing as they listened for any movement. They remained silent even after Marinette had carefully closed the front door of the apartment behind them, holding each other’s hand tightly, as if the stakes were much higher than Chat being sent home and Marinette to bed if they were discovered.
“It’s a bit late to make macarons, but how do you feel about chouquettes?” Marinette hid a sly grin as she turned the light on in the kitchen. She knew exactly what he thought about them.
“That seems like an excellent option.” Chat’s eyes lit up hungrily.
“Good. Could you turn on the oven? 250°C.” She indicated, while she took out the ingredients.
“Oui, Chef.” He executed. “What next?”
“If you could measure out 250mL of milk, then pour it in this saucepan,” she handed him a carton of milk and a measuring jug, before putting the saucepan on a hob and adding other ingredients to it. He followed her instructions, then, seeing as there was barely any left in the container, chugged the remainder, before sighing contently and throwing the carton over his shoulder, without looking. It landed straight in the dustbin.
Marinette paused in the middle of cutting the butter, baffled.
“What?” Chat asked when she’d stood there, blinking, for a couple of minutes.
“I’m sorry, what was that ?” She shook her head and waved her knife between him and the dustbin.
“Oh, sorry, I didn’t ask if it was alright for me to finish it,” he said sheepishly. “I can buy you another-”
“I’m not talking about that, although maybe I should, because how stereotypical that you, a cat superhero, should drink milk,” she waved his apology away, raking the butter into the pan. “I’m talking about your aim. Do you play basketball?”
“Sometimes.” Chat scratched the back of his head. It wasn’t exactly true. He’d just perfected the art of landing baskets from any angle of his room out of boredom; it’d been his biggest challenge for a while.
“Maybe you should try out for a team or something.” She handed him four eggs, a bowl and a whisk. He started breaking them.
“If my schedule clears up, maybe.” He doubted his father would encourage the idea. He’d repeated that Agreste men were soloists enough times that Adrien sometimes heard it in his dreams; and unlike fencing, basketball was a team sport.
“Oh, right. Of course.” Marinette nodded. She hesitated to probe further; on the one hand, she was curious about what her partner was up to outside of their duties; it was difficult to probe how he was holding up, sometimes. On the other hand, she was afraid of learning too much about him. She decided to change the subject. “Could you gradually add the eggs to this while I mix?”
“Of course!” He cleared his throat. “These really aren’t hard to make, could you write the recipe down for me so I can make them again at home?” This was going to make great patrol snacks. He was sure Ladybug would appreciate them.
“Yep, no problem!” She finished stirring the ingredients together and pulled out a baking tray and two piping bags. She poked around for greaseproof paper while Chat filled the latter with the batter, before remembering that her parents had mentioned that they’d ran out over dinner.
“Hmm, this isn’t the most traditional way, but we’ll put some flour on the tray and then pipe the chouquettes directly on it. Would you mind taking care of that while I get the sugar?”
Chat nodded, grabbing the bag. He started sprinkling the surface, reaching in the packet every so often. It made the flour fly out a little, tickling his nose. He scrunched it, trying to get rid of the sensation, but it was no use.
He turned away from the tray and prepared to sneeze, instinctively putting the hand that still contained flour in front of his nose… Just as Marinette came back next to him.
“Achoo!” White powder flew everywhere, and Marinette jumped back.
“Ew, Chat!” She exclaimed, quickly dusting it off of her.
“I’m so sorry!” His eyes widened and he bit his lower lip, trying to contain his smile at her bewildered face. He had to admit, white hair looked nice on Marinette.
How cute , Marinette thought, before mentally slapping herself. No matter how true the statement was, it wasn’t helping at all. She reached for the packet and threw a fistful of flour at him to distract herself.
“Hey!”
“An eye for an eye!” She stuck her tongue out at him.
“Is it really, though? I didn’t do it on purr-pose,” he said as his eyes landed on the flour packet.
Marinette started backing away, seeing exactly where he was going. “Now, now, no need to be rash about this, remember, we still have to cook the chou- eek!” She started running around the kitchen island as Chat sprung into a chase.
“Come back here, you little scoundrel!”
“Chat please! Think about your poor stomach!” She switched direction as Chat did the same.
“It can wait.” He grinned, gracefully leaping over the island.
Marinette squeaked again as she jumped out of his way, but found herself stuck between two shelving units. Chat approached her slowly, his devilish smile getting wider as the distance between them vanished. He pulled a fistful of flour out of the bag, and she felt her heart beat faster in her chest. Not just because of the imminent threat.
“I’m sorry Chat, I shouldn’t have done that…” She trailed off, backing herself further against the wall. “But this is going to make a mess, think about the clean up…” She pleaded.
Chat paused, his fist above her head losing a bit of its contents. She blinked slowly. Cat kisses, he thought. His eyes flickered to her lips. He wondered what it’d be like to kiss her, for real. He dared not go down that route.
“You’re right.” He shook his head, and brought his arm down, releasing the flour he’d been holding in the packet. “If I’m going to make a mess…” He paused, taking a small step back, and Marinette sighed in relief. “Better do it right.” He lifted the packet and emptied it all on her head.
“What the-” Marinette spluttered out, starting to get rid of it. She heard Chat laugh as he watched her, without so much as offering his help.
“Say cheese!” She was suddenly blinded by a flashing light, and her head shot up.
“Sorry, had to immortalise the moment.” Chat grinned, showing her the picture on his baton.
She glowered at him, and he moved out of her reach, just in case she decided to retaliate.
“You can’t be mad at me, I’m the birthday boy!”
She rolled her eyes, the hint of a smile forming on her lips as she finished dusting off most of the flour from her clothes and went to fetch the broom. Little did he know, she couldn’t be mad at him at all, since, A, she supposed that she’d been in the wrong in the first place, and B, it was him . Not that she’d admit it out loud, though. “I guess you’re right. You’d better hurry up making the chouquettes, then, else I’m putting you on broom duty.”
Chat happily complied.
---
As he left Marinette’s house, a full packet of warm Chouquettes in hand (he’d made his choice between it and the blanket), he had to admit to himself that even though he hadn’t accomplished his goal, it didn’t really matter.
There’d be plenty of other opportunities to talk to her, and he couldn’t say no to the opportunity of having fun; they were too rare an occurrence to pass up on.
Inktober Day 2
Favourite Crop
Day 2 and Harvey gets parsnips from the farmer. He decides to do something nice in return.
Spring Year 1
Doctor Harvey is sitting in the reception on a particularly and noticeably stagnant day in the clinic he runs in Pelican Town. Lewis called in for some eye-drops at 9.00am promptly, but since then he has no business all day. He was tempted to close up shop when the door creaked open and in stepped the farmer.
“Afternoon Doctor Harvey!” The farmer spoke cheerily. “Ooh, it’s quiet today.” They peer around the empty space of the waiting room. “Never mind, the first crop of this year’s parsnips are ready! Bumper one too! I’ve brought you a few to taste!”
Harvey’s moustache quirked as he smiled. The farmer is always so kind. He hoped that they would make a success of that old farm they’d taken over, they worked so hard, they deserved it.
He takes the parsnips with thanks and bids the farmer good day. They wave at the door one last time, “Gotta go Doctor Harvey, farm work is never ending and these parsnips won’t give themselves away!”
That evening, after a frustratingly quiet day, Harvey has energy to spare and his thoughts linger on the kindnesses the new farmer has bestowed on him recently; almost daily coffee, pickles in little jars, just enough for one person, little samples of truffle oil.
It’s time he returned the favour he decided.
He gets out his laptop and searches for parsnip recipes.
“Soup!” He says to no-one in particular. “Perfect.”
He never cooks. The microwave he has may be the most overworked piece of equipment in his poor excuse for a kitchen. Harvey is usually too tired after a day in clinic to cook proper meals and somehow it seems such a waste of time to be cooking for one. Microwave meals are very handy.
But today he decides to make something from scratch for the farmer to pay them back for all their kindness.
He spends a few minutes making a list and goes next door to Pierre’s general store to pick up ingredients.
Milk and vinegar, along with an onion, celery, a carrot, thyme and ginger.
If he’s read the recipe correctly, he just chops everything up and throws it in a pan. Right? Right?!
He hands the money over to Pierre. “Can I borrow your kitchen for a couple of hours, before you have dinner today?” Harvey knows that the family has dinner late after closing up the shop. This will give him a chance to cook the soup and clean up after himself.
“Sure Harv.” Says Pierre, “You know you can use it anytime. You should get Robin to build you a proper kitchen one day.”
“I will when I’ve paid for the clinic.” He laughs, “One day in the far distant future.”
In the kitchen he gets to work. He’s absolutely clueless about cooking and has to go back to clinic after cutting himself twice with a knife and burning the cuff of his shirt on the gas ring.
Finally, after a lot of trial and error, he has something resembling soup. A bit lumpy in parts and he may have added a touch too much pepper, but it’s edible.
He’s very proud.
He carefully decants the soup into a plastic container ready for delivery to his neighbour the farmer.
The next day, the farmer opens the door to a beaming Dr Harvey. It’s 6.30am.
“Morning Farmer!” Harvey says breezily.
The farmer ruffles their hair in consternation. What time did Harvey get up this morning to be so chipper and be here so early? The Farmer has only just got up.
Harvey’s moustache droops, “Sorry, did I wake you?”
“No, no, it’s fine doctor, please, come in.”
For the first time Harvey crosses the threshold of the farm. It’s tiny. He’s not a small man and with the two of them standing there the room feels stiflingly small.
“I um, brought you something.” He takes the precious plastic container out of his bag, “I made you soup. You know, with those parsnips you gave me?”
“You- you made me soup?” Asks the farmer incredulously.
“Yeah. Parsnip flavoured. I figured parsnip must be your favourite right? You grow hundreds of them, you’re always giving them away to everyone. Every time someone passes you in the square, you’ve always got bunches of parsnips as presents, it’s like you can’t get rid of them fast enoughandOhdearYobayourreallyhateparsnipsdon’tyou?" His words run into one another as the penny drops.
The farmer presses their lips together and raises their eyebrows in assertion.
“Soooo, parsnip soup, the inherent essence of parsnip, parsnip boiled down to its most basic components would be your worst nightmare?”
The farmer tilts their head and raises their eyebrows again, wishing Harvey would stop saying parsnip. Just when they thought Harvey’s moustache couldn’t look any sadder it falls further and his cheeks redden.
Adorable thinks the farmer, not for the first time.
Seeing his pride turn to disappointment the farmer grins at him in solace, “Harvey, this was a wonderful thing to do for me! But yes, I hate parsnips more than anything in the world." They continue hurriedly, before the moustache falls to the ground and the farmer has to chase it around the fields, "I AM hungry though, so why don’t you let me buy you breakfast at Gus’s while I tell you all of the things I like and don’t like so that next time you cook for me, you’ll know?”
Harvey laughs too. Maybe this plan didn’t turn out so badly after all.
Wait. Next time?
Burning heart (One Shot)
Bucky Barnes x Reader
Summary: Bucky Barnes seems to hate Y/n with a burning passion. Is everything as it seems though?
Words: 3.8K
Warnings: angstyyyyy but with a happy ending, Bucky is mean and I wanna punch him even though I love him (thank God for having everything saved in my laptop xp)
Originally posted: February 24, 2020
The compound is almost empty today, much to anyone’s surprise. With most of the team out on a long mission, the only people left to wander the living areas are Bucky and y/n. The only two people from the team who don’t get along. At all.
She knew that Bucky was somewhere training or simply sulking around the place, so she was trying to be extra careful with her moving, reducing the times she went to the kitchen to get food, going as far as isolating herself in her room for hours.
It wasn’t her fault that Bucky didn’t like her and they didn’t get along. She liked the ex-Winter Soldier, maybe a little too much, more than she should, considering how he treats her and such. But she can’t help feeling the way she does.
From the safety of her room she asked in a timid voice, “Friday, where is Sergeant Barnes?”
“He’s currently in the gym miss.” Came the immediate response.
Y/n sighed in relief and after offering a hushed thanks to the A.I she hurried to make her way to the kitchen. She was craving some chocolate chip cookies and she wanted to make her mother’s recipe for it, besides it would be a welcome home present for the other team members, they were supposed to come back from their mission in the afternoon.
Not wasting any time, she quickly got to work as soon as she set foot in the kitchen, trying her best to be as quiet as possible. It was ridiculous really, just like Bucky or everyone else, she lives in the compound, it’s her right to use each and every area of it, as long as she is not violating anyone’s privacy.
But Bucky, he was a total different thing. He couldn’t stay in the same room as her for more than 5 minutes even if their lives depended on it. He always criticized her, always had an insult to throw her way. It was as if he hated the woman, and y/n had no idea what had she done to deserve such treatment from him.
She was finished with the first batch of cookies and putting them to bake in the oven when she noticed Bucky enter the kitchen. He didn’t even spare her a glance, just headed to the refrigerator and took out a bottle of water, unscrewing the cap and drinking with large sips. He looked tired, probably wore himself out with the punching bag, skin sweaty and hair dump, sticking on his forehead.
Y/n couldn’t help but stare at him. He was very handsome, with his brooding and almost dangerous features, but his eyes, they were always blue and soft and y/n couldn’t help but lose herself in them.
Bucky noticed her staring and scoffed in annoyance.
“What are you looking at?” He asked her, a little too bitterly for y/n’s taste.
She cleared her throat, embarrassed that he caught her staring, a red shade of blush dusting her cheeks.
“I’m sorry, I was just lost in thoughts, didn’t mean to stare or make you feel uncomfortable.”
Her words were quiet, but she knew Bucky could hear her anyway.
“As if.” He replied almost taunting and left the kitchen, not saying another word. As if she could make him feel uncomfortable.
Bucky hated the idea of being alone with y/n. He hated the fact that she was so nice to him, always going out of her way to see to his every need, always offering her help with anything he was supposed to figure out by himself. He hated how she cooked for the whole team and always saved him a plate, never forgetting to call him down when the food was ready or when they were all hanging out, watching movies or playing silly games.
Y/n used to be a part of the Avengers, a very important asset to the team, with her powers and skills, she was amazing and fierce and a total badass. But everything changed two years ago, only a few months before Bucky came back from Wakanda.
Y/n had been captured by Hydra and tortured for three long months, she never said in detail what they did to her there, but whatever it was ruined her for good. She suffered a lot even after Steve and Natasha found her and brought her back home. She was mentally incapable of going on another mission or anything like that, that’s why Tony and Steve decided she would not participate in another mission for as long as it was needed for her to fully recover.
Bucky was sitting on the couch of the common room, reading a book, when he heard Friday’s mechanical yet very vivid voice inform him about the arrival of the team from their mission. He closed the book and got up from the place, ready to meet Steve and the others.
They came one after the other through the door with animated chatter, looking surprisingly well considering they had been on this mission for more than two weeks.
Steve was the first one to go to Bucky and hug him, then the rest of the team greeted him too. After the questions about the mission and if they were all fine, Steve was the first to ask about y/n’s whereabouts.
“Have you seen y/n today?” He asked Bucky, but the latter didn’t have time to answer because at that moment the woman entered the common room with two large plates full of chocolate chip cookies.
“Hey guys” she greeted them all with a wide smile and Sam was the first one to go to her, take the plates from her hands and pecked her cheek lightly.
Steve went up to her next, enveloping her in a warm hug which she happily returned. “How are you?” He asked in a hushed voice, only for her to hear.
“I’m okay. How are you? The mission went okay?”
He nodded and kissed her head.
Bucky was watching them from his seat, almost fuming at how lovingly his best friend and y/n were acting.
Everyone knew that after rescuing her from Hydra’s hands, Steve became her rock, the person she would go to every time she needed someone to talk to, or someone to hold her. His caring, nurturing nature had easily made her trust in him, open up to him with her mind and her heart, helping her become better and helping her heal.
Everyone also knew that there was nothing more than platonic brotherly love between them both, but Bucky couldn’t help the bitter taste of jealousy he’d get in his mouth and stomach every time he saw her with Steve.
He kept telling himself that he was jealous that she was keeping his best friend from him, what with Steve spending most of his free time with her, but he knew that wasn’t really true. He just couldn’t admit it to anyone, even himself that yet.
They all sat together around the couches and chairs, talking and eating y/n’s delicious cookies, when y/n directed her gaze to Bucky and silently nudged one of the plates in his direction, asking him to have one.
He just looked at her for a brief moment, as if not believing her gesture, and then got up from his seat.
“I don’t want your stupid cookies.” Was all he said before he left the room entirely, leaving everyone on the team surprised by his words, and y/n hurt in her very core.
She didn’t know what she had done to him, but she knew that she didn’t deserve his attitude. She tried to swallow the lump that formed in her throat and averted her eyes to her lap. Steve that was sitting next to her, with his arm around her shoulders, furrowed his brows in disappointment at his best friend.
“Don’t mind him. You know how Bucky is.” He said trying to justify the man’s actions, but he knew the first thing he had to do later was go to Bucky and give him a piece of his mind. Y/n just shrugged and gave him a small smile to let her know she wasn’t hurt, but Steve knew that wasn’t true.
He knew how much Bucky would hurt y/n with his attitude towards her, he had witnessed Bucky being mean for no reason to y/n several times, but he couldn’t understand why his pal had to do so.
The atmosphere in the room shifted awkwardly after Bucky’s disappearance, but only for a few moments, because Sam was quick to crack a joke and try to restore the humor.
***
Missions are always hard, with the exception of a few here and there where they get lucky to get in, get the job done and get out without any scratches on them. This time though, luck was not on their side.
Steve, Bucky, Sam and Natasha had all been in a mission in Germany, raiding a Hydra base, while the rest of the team were doing the same in Russia, shutting down the same experiment operation that Hydra was conducting.
When they returned, they were all miserable, beaten down and tired, faces and bodies covered in blood and  scars.
Y/n had been feeling guilty for not being able to help the team anymore every since her capture, so not being one to just stand around and do nothing while her family and friends risked her life to save the world, she started to work in the medical bay, tending to their wounds every time they needed the care.
This time was no different, she was prepared for their arrival hours ago, Natasha notifying her of the situation of each member.
As soon as the jet landed in the hangar, she ran towards her friends and helped them to the med bay. They all looked like they had been through hell. And she knew it was true. Hydra was hell and she had lived in that hell herself for three months a couple of years ago.
She began with Natasha, cleaning and suturing a deep gash on her hairline, assessing to her other wounds, a knife slashing in her upper arm, a couple of bruises in her ribs. After finishing with her she went to Steve, who had a busted lip and a few broken ribs, but ever the stubborn person he was, he insisted he was okay.
“You should see Bucky. He has a bullet wound in his abdomen and I think his shoulder is dislocated.” He informed her in a hushed but quick voice.
Her eyes widened and she asked another nurse to tend to him before she went to see Bucky.
Bucky was sitting at the end of the med bay, head hanging low and the breaths he was taking were short and shallow. Because of his past trauma and everything, he didn’t let anyone take care of him except from doctor Cho, who he had learned to trust with time, but unfortunately the woman wasn’t in the States at all that day.
Now Bucky was losing blood, sitting in an uncomfortable chair, not letting anyone take care of him.
Y/n approached him with careful steps, not wanting to startle him. “Hey, Bucky.” she spoke in a soft tone that was usually directed to him.
He picked up his head to look at her but said nothing. He was paler than she had ever seen him, surely he must have lost a lot of blood.
“Will you let me look at your wounds?  Steve said you’re shot-”
She didn’t get to finish her sentence because he abruptly got up from his chair, making the way out of the med bay.
“I don’t need your help.”
His voice was hoarse and a little weak, but she could sense the animosity in his tone. Her heart broke a little from him words, but she couldn’t say anything to him. She wished things were different between them.
He took three more steps in the direction of the door and before he could leave the room, his knees gave out and he collapsed on the floor with a loud thud.
Three heads turned to the source of the noise and y/n gasped in horror when she saw Bucky fall down, but she immediately reacted and went to his side, helping him on his back and assessing to his wound.
Steve and Sam helped her get Bucky in one of the surgery tables where she had to get the bullet out and see his wound before he died of blood hemorrhage.
*
Bucky woke up feeling his head pounding. He opened his eyes with a little difficulty and first thing he saw was all white. White walls, white room, white sheets, and a person in a white coat sleeping in a chair next to his bed, her head tucked next to his thigh, two petite hands holding his metal hand in a firm grip.
When he saw who was next to him, Bucky’s heart started hammering in his chest, but he couldn’t let her be there. Despite feeling bad for having to wake her up, because she looked as if she hadn’t slept in days, he had to, before he did some stupid thing he would regret later.
He retracted his hand rather harshly from her hold and y/n startled awake, looking frantically around the room for any source of danger.
When her eyes met his she let out a sigh of relief and a small smile formed in her lips.
“You’re awake.”
“What are you doing here?” He asked in a gruffly voice, hoarse from disuse. Despite having saved his life, he still couldn’t stand to be in the same room as her.
“I’m sorry, I was just sitting in the chair and then fell asleep…” she was trying to find excuses for her presence there, but Bucky was having none of it.
He gave her what she understood to be a repulsed look and asked for Steve. The smile never leaving her lips, she nodded her head and quit the room quickly.
Despite everything he did to her, she couldn’t hate him, she couldn’t resent him. She felt too deeply for Bucky and it was killing her, but she couldn’t stop being nice to him. He deserved all the kindness in the world, no matter what.
She made a quick walk to Steve’s room and informed him about Bucky being awake. While talking to him she kept her easy smile and normal composure, but as soon as she retreated to her room, the pain came all at once, crushing her, causing her to fall down to her knees and cry her eyes out.
She sobbed and sobbed and felt the pain pierce through her chest, but she couldn’t help but still care for Bucky. All she needed to do was let out all the hurt and pain in the confines of her room and then get out, put a fake smile on her face and carry on taking care of Bucky and the rest of the team as if nothing had happened.
She had been practicing this kind of ritual for a long time, lately more often than not and she was used to it. She knew she was hurting but she couldn’t stop caring. It was her blessing and her curse.
***
The next time they were left alone together was a few months later during a week long visit in Wakanda. T'Challa had welcomed them in their palace, offering each and one of them personal chambers. It just happened that Bucky’s and y/n’s bedrooms were next to each other.
It was almost 3 am and with all the people living in the palace sleeping a peaceful quiet had embraced the atmosphere. Bucky couldn’t sleep, so he was writing in his journal his latest thoughts. Despite having gained all of his memories back and having them sorted in order, he kept writing in a journal, it helped him with his feelings, especially with the ones for y/n.
Speaking of her, he was just writing about the last time he had seen her in the compound, tired and consumed, eyes with dark circles under them and shoulders slumped, almost as she had given up in herself.
He had never seen her like that, even when he had just returned from Wakanda to become part of the Avengers, just a little after she was rescued from Hydra. Her smile, her pretty smile she always wore no matter what, was missing and Bucky couldn’t help but feel responsible and guilty for the state she was in.
He had been horrible towards her, but she never complained and despite his rudeness she kept being kind to him, treating him with extra care and tenderness, but he kept being mean to her. He felt like the biggest asshole in the world.
He was just closing his notebook to go to bed when he heard her blood curdling screams echoing through the walls. He was immediately on panic, running to her door to save her from any threat she might be facing.
Even though the king’s palace was one of the safest places on Earth, Bucky couldn’t help but fear that she was in real danger, if her screams were any indication.
He ran to her room and opened the door in a hurry, but instead of finding any threat there, he was met with her figure thrashing on the bed, kicking and yelling to the top of her lungs for help.
She was having a nightmare.
He was frozen in place, just looking at her living in a terror, before he reacted and without a second thought went to her bed to wake her up.
As he got closer he noticed there were tears in her eyes, and his heart broke for the innocent girl suffering. Bucky was very familiar to the nightmares and he knew that she must have them too, after the pain and torture she went through, but he had never heard her, their rooms in the compound being in different floors.
Without losing any more seconds he closed the distance with her and wrapped his arms around her, one hand getting the hair out of her face, patting them securely behind her ears. She was still screaming in his arms.
“Y/n wake up sweetheart.” He began talking in a sweet soothing voice. “Come on, wake up, it’s okay, it’s just a dream.” He continued speaking to her and caressing her cheeks with his fingertips.
She woke up startled, her eyes opening in shock and pushing at him to let her go.
“No, let me go!” She yelled but she only tightened his hold around her shoulders and kept on whispering to her ears.
“It’s me y/n, it’s Bucky. You’re safe now. It’s okay.”
Soon enough she calmed down and let her weight down in his arms, shoulders slumping forward and arms clinging to him for dear life.
“Bucky..” she muttered in a breathless voice and began to cry with loud sobs.
His heart was breaking seeing her like this, so he kept rocking her back and forth in his arms, trying to soothe her.
“It’s okay. It’s over now. You’re here, you’re safe.” He kept talking to her while his hands were rubbing up and down her back, helping with her calming down.
Eventually her breathing evened and she was quiet in his arms, but her hands hadn’t loosen their grip on his shirt at all. He kept hugging her and rocking her and whispering sweet nothings in her ears and he wasn’t planning on moving if it wasn’t for y/n who a few minutes after having calmed down went stiff in his arms and retreated her body from his.
“I’m sorry you had to come and wake me up.”
Her voice was small and hoarse from all the screaming, but Bucky heard it loud and clearly.
“I’m sorry you have nightmares.” He replied to her. She looked up to his eyes in surprise, not having expected him to say that.
Of course even having him there was a surprise in itself, but she guessed he just had to come and wake her up because her screaming was disturbing his sleep.
She shook her head.
“It’s not your fault.”
“But it is. I made your days a real nightmare too. I’m sorry y/n.”
He wiped the tears out of her cheeks and then took one of her hands in his and started playing mindlessly with her fingers.
“Buck..”
“Yeah?” His eyes met her in a hopeful glance, he didn’t know what she was about to say next, but he wanted to be there for her now, he didn’t want to leave her side.
“Why do you hate me?” Her seemingly nonchalant question made him shudder. He didn’t hate her. Of course he didn’t. But the way he acted towards her said otherwise.
He locked eyes with her for a moment and slowly started closing the distance between them.
“I don’t.” He answered simply and his lips met hers in a short and hesitant kiss.
At first she didn’t react to his lips on hers, but then she returned his kiss, just as timid as him, for a quick second and then she was the first to end it.
“I’m sorry. I should better go.” He said in a hurried voice, clearly embarrassed. He got up from the bed and made to leave the room, but her next words stopped him right in his tracks.
“Please don’t.”
It was barely a whisper and  if he didn’t have super soldier hearing he would probably miss it. But he heard her, and his head whipped around to see her already looking at him expectantly.
He turned back and sat on her bed again, and she nearly crawled to get close to him and curled to his chest, trying to protect herself from the outside world in his embrace.
Bucky circled his arms around her shoulders and moved them to a laying position, to be more comfortable.
“I’m sorry for everything, doll. I know I hurt you and I have no excuse for being such a jerk to you. I don’t deserve your tenderness and kindness, but you always go out of your way to make me feel better and for that I’m eternally grateful. I’m so sorry for causing you pain and hurting you when you didn’t deserve it at all.”
She just hugged him tighter and sighed in relief.
“It’s okay Buck. Everything is okay.”
That night they fell asleep in each other’s arms and it was the very first night of the best sleeps of their lives. In the morning they would talk it all out.
A Happy Monday Afternoon
A purchase made, leads to a fun family afternoon, trying out something new.
I wrote this for my friend’s birthday, I hope you all enjoy it. 💕
Tumblr media
March 22, 2021
Mulder opened the front door and Scully heard him exclaim happily. Turning her head, she saw he was carrying in a large box and she frowned in confusion.
“What’s that you’ve got there?” she asked as he closed the door and looked at her with a smile.
“A pasta maker.”
“A… a pasta maker?” She looked back at Faith sitting beside her on the living room floor and playing with a piano book as she sang along to the tune of “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.”  What has your daddy done now, my love?”
“Faithy! It’s here! The pasta maker we ordered is here!”
“Pasta!” she said, abandoning her book as she stood up and walked over to him. “Yummy pasta.”
“When did you buy a pasta maker?”
“About a week ago. Remember when we were watching that cooking show?”
“Which one?” she asked with a laugh as she stood up and walked over to join them.
“True, we have been watching a lot of those shows,” he said, as he set the brown cardboard box on the dining room table and began to pull the tape back and open it. “But there was one we watched and they made pasta from scratch. It looked easy and delicious. I thought, we could do that... I mean we have the time.” He took the pasta maker box out and moved the other to the floor, smiling as he turned it around and looked at all the features.
“Ravioli… lasagnette, whatever that is… fettuccine,” he said, with a nod. “Think of the money we’ll save making our own pasta.”
“Considering we will eventually have to buy the ingredients, not sure we’ll save that much,” she responded, looking at the pictures with a smile.
“Party pooper,” he said and she laughed. “I was looking at the pasta makers and watching videos when you were on a run a couple of weeks ago. Faith was watching with me and she seemed interested in it. There was a little boy in the video helping his mom and I thought it would be fun to have one and try it with Faith.”
“You’re so cute,” she whispered and he looked at her in surprise. “I love how excited you get to do things like this with her. You’re such a good dad, Mulder. You really are.” She smiled and he stared at her, nodding slowly as he took a deep breath.
“Thank you,” he said quietly. She kissed his cheek as she placed her hand on his arm and gave it a gentle squeeze.
“So… let’s unpack this thing and see how it works,” she said with a smile.
The machine was unpacked, the parts were cleaned, dried, and waiting to be used on the kitchen counter, as Mulder wiped the table down. Scully put a pot of water on to boil and then began to gather the necessary ingredients, measuring cups and spoons. Faith was playing with Grey who had laid claim to the cardboard box, jumping in and out of it with a toy and then ignoring it to chase her own tail.
“We decided on fettuccine, right?” Scully asked and Mulder nodded as Faith laughed, picking up Grey’s pink toy mouse and throwing it into the box.
“Okay. I’ll get the sauce ready while you two make the pasta. Oh, I think we still have some salad. I could make that too.” He gave a low grumble and she smiled. “Yes, Mulder… a salad.”
“Fine… I’ll just have to have some extra sauce to make up for it,” he said as he took some paper towels from the roll and smacked her ass as he walked back to the table, winking at her as he did and she shook her head with a smile.
“Okay, Faithy my love, you ready to help me make the pasta?” he asked her as he dried the table and looked over at her.
“Yes. I help make pasta. Bye Grey.” She waved to Grey and walked over to Mulder who smiled at her and bent down to kiss her cheeks loudly, causing her to laugh.
“Okay. Let’s get your apron on.”
“Okay, dada.” He opened a drawer and took out her apron. It was dark blue with teal ties, neck strap, and a pocket. There were  butterflies and flowers covering the whole thing in different colors of blues and greens.
“Here we go,” he said as he put it over her head and crisscrossed the ties around her waist and then tied it in the front. “Okay, you’re ready. Oh, wait, we need to wash your hands first. Come on!” He scooped her up, kissing her and snorting in her ear, causing her to laugh again.
Scully watched them, the way he held her, pulled up her sleeves, and helped her wash her hands as he sang the alphabet song. His care for her never failed to make her feel an ache in her chest. He was a good dad, just as she had told him, and she loved watching his attentiveness with Faith.
“Now we’re ready,” he said as he dried both of their hands and set Faith on a chair. “So, the recipe says to mix it up in a bowl, but… I say we do it on the table. Like real bakers would.”
“I think we should concentrate on making the pasta and cut back on the dirty talk,” Scully deadpanned and he looked up at her in surprise.
“Are you flirting with me?” he asked and she raised an eyebrow as she started to smile and he narrowed his eyes at her. “You just… save those thoughts for later. Right now we have some pasta dough to make.” He clapped his hands and rubbed them together.
Scully smiled as she brought over the ingredients, cups and spoons, and Mulder grabbed the large cutting board, and they were all placed on the table. He took his phone from his pocket to look at the recipe and she took out her own phone and started recording them while taking pictures periodically.
“Think we should double the recipe, so… we’ll need…” He took out the cup and put it in the flour, making sure it was level before pouring it onto the cutting board. Adding a second one, he then added a teaspoon of salt and mixed it carefully. He gave Faith the spoon and helped show her how to mix it gently.
“Now we have to beat the egg slightly before we add it to this mixture.”
He turned around quickly and took a small bowl down from the cupboard. As he came back to the table, Faith was still holding the spoon, mixing up the flour. As he reached for the eggs, she lifted the spoon into the air, a large amount of flour sitting within it. It flew back, hitting him square in the face.
The shock of it caused them all to freeze and then Mulder coughed loudly, a huge puff of flour falling onto Faith and the table. She gasped and Scully started laughing... hard. When she did, Faith copied her as Mulder shook his head, wiping at his face, still coughing as flour fell from his lips.
Scully kept laughing, bent over and then back, her head falling back as she tried to hold the phone steady. Faith put the spoon in the flour again and Mulder, his face still covered in white flour, stopped her from using it to hit him with another scoop.
She looked up as he did, saw his messy face and began to giggle before laughing hysterically, which caused Bella to bark and come running over to see what all the excitement was about. She jumped up and down, her tail wagging as they all laughed and Mulder shook his head as he reached for a kitchen towel, flour falling everywhere.
“Well,” he choked out and Scully stopped the recording on the phone, trying to catch her breath from laughing. “That wasn’t exactly what I saw happening, but I should have expected it.” He coughed and shook his head, flour falling once more as he looked at Scully who started laughing again at the sight of him.
Taking a few minutes, they cleaned up. Faith continued playing in the flour and created a bigger mess as it fell on Bella, covering her back and making her sneeze. Scully laughed as she took Faith from the chair, and turned down the gas under the pot of water, keeping it on a low boil, as Mulder wiped down the table and dried it again.
“Okay,” he said with a chuckle. “Let’s try this again.” He took Faith from Scully and looked at her as he held her. “No more throwing flour at daddy, okay?”
“Okay, dada.” Scully chuckled at the seriousness of her tone and took out her phone to record again.
Thankfully, the second attempt was much better than the first and the pasta dough was set aside to rest for a little while. Faith was taken off the chair, but kept her apron on as she went to play.
Working together, they made the salad and the sauce for the fettuccine, keeping it on a low simmer as the pasta maker was reassembled and Mulder read the instructions.
Cutting the dough into sections a bit later, they rolled out the dough, Faith once more on the chair. Mulder then helped her turn the crank handle and feed a portion of dough through, pasta noodles coming out the other side. He looked up and smiled at Scully who was once more taking a video and pictures. She smiled back as she watched him lifting the pasta delicately.
“Dada. We make pasta!”
“We sure did, love. Look at it, it’s perfect. We did a good job, a spoon of flour and salt to the face notwithstanding.” Scully chuckled and turned off the video, catching his eye and walking over to him. She wiped off the top of his right ear, a bit of flour still remaining.
“Just so cute,” she whispered, kissing his cheek and smiling.
He nodded and smiled, feeding the dough through the machine again. Laying them in little nest piles, he showed Faith how to sprinkle them with flour as they rested once more before being cooked. When they were done, he lifted her from the chair and bopped her on the nose with a flour covered finger.
“Thank you for your help, my love. You did a great job. Wasn’t that fun?”
“Uh huh, dada. Fun.” She held his face in her hands and smiled at him, Scully snapped pictures, her phone on silent as to not disturb them, that happy ache filling her heart again.
When it was ready, Mulder held Faith as he dropped one little nest of noodles in at a time, stirring it and watching it cook, taking a long noodle out to test it and see if it was ready. Again Scully snapped pictures, laughing as Faith chewed on an extra long noodle, a happy smile on her face.
The noodles were drained and plated, sauce poured over them, and the salad dished up. Everything was placed on the table and they sat down to eat, Faith still wearing her flour covered butterfly apron.
“Oh, this is so good,” Scully exclaimed as she took the first bite. “So much better when it’s fresh.”
“Could not agree more,” Mulder replied as he slurped up a long noodle and Faith laughed, munching on a cucumber and Scully smiled as she took another bite.
The meal finished, Scully brought a chair to the sink and let Faith “help” her with the dishes, which mostly involved her splashing in the warm bubbly water and helping to rinse the silverware. It did not matter though, as it made the tedious task of washing dishes more enjoyable.
They took a walk when they were done, needing some fresh air and exercise. Everyone came along, Grey trotting along with them until she scampered off to chase at something they could not see. Bella was happy to be out as well, sniffing out all of her familiar places.
Coming home before it was too dark, they said hello to all of the garden figurines Scully had bought a couple of years ago at the fairy tale amusement park. Faith especially liked the white unicorn with the golden mane and tail, petting it and telling it goodnight. Grey came running up the drive with a meow and they all headed inside.
Faith had a bath and was read a story in their bed, yawning tiredly and rubbing her eyes, falling asleep before it was finished. For a few minutes, as she lay facing Scully, draped across her body, Scully simply stared at her. She ran her fingers through her soft dark hair, over her perfect porcelain like skin, and down her nose and across her pouty lips that were so much like Mulder’s. She was so beautiful, this perfect person they had created.
“She’s perfect, isn’t she?” Mulder said quietly, kneeling down beside the bed and staring at her, his hand on her pajama clad thigh, his thumb rubbing softly.
“I was thinking the same,” Scully whispered, running her fingers through her hair again. “She’s beautiful.”
“Of course she is. Have you looked in a mirror lately?” She smiled and reached out a hand to touch his cheek. He turned his head and kissed her palm, staring into her eyes with a soft smile.
A few minutes more and he lifted Faith gently and carried her to her room. Scully stretched and placed Faith’s book on the nightstand before getting up and walking out of the room. She heard Mulder humming softly and she smiled. She knew Faith had not woken, but it seemed they both needed a little extra cuddle time with her tonight.
Downstairs, she straightened up and was deciding on a glass of wine when she heard her phone vibrate with a text. Walking over, she saw it was from Mulder and she frowned with a smile as she looked up the stairs, wondering why he was texting.
Opening the message, she sighed deeply. It was four pictures that he had taken without her knowledge. One was of Faith bent over, nose to nose with Grey, as she played in the cardboard box. Another was her touching the unicorn in the garden, the last bit of sunlight captured perfectly. The next two were of Faith sleeping on her in the bed. One of only Faith and the other with Scully’s fingers resting on her cheek.
She smiled as she saved them and selected the one of her sleeping as the wallpaper on her phone. As she opened her camera roll to reciprocate with photos of him and Faith, she heard Faith’s door close and Mulder walking quietly down the stairs.
She smiled at him as he reached the bottom. Locking her phone, she walked over to him and wrapped her arms around his waist. He hummed a small laugh and she took a deep breath as she closed her eyes.
“How about some ice cream?” he asked softly and she nodded against his chest. “Good. I’ll get it.” He kissed the top of her head and she let him go, sitting on the couch and unlocking her phone again.
She looked through the pictures, watching the videos with no volume, laughing silently as he got hit in the face with the flour. Rewinding it, she watched it again, covering her mouth with glee. Going back, she looked at the photos she took while taking video and her eyes widened.
“Here you go,” he said, holding out her bowl of vanilla ice cream with hot fudge on top. “What’s that you’re looking at?” She turned the phone toward him and he laughed as he sat down, both bowls in his hands.
By some stroke of luck, she had captured the exact moment of impact. Faith held the spoon aloft. flour was flying up, the air around them hazy, and his face was hysterically comical: his eyes closed, eyebrows up, and mouth pulled down as the full force of the flour hit him.
He took the phone from her as she took her ice cream and he set his bowl on his lap. Zooming in, he chuckled at the look on his face and the way Faith held the spoon, as though she both seemed to have no idea while also knowing exactly what she was doing.
It was the perfect accidental shot.
Sending it to himself and making it his wallpaper, they then watched the videos she took throughout the day as they ate their dessert, laughing as they did.
He collected their bowls when they were done, took them into the kitchen, and put them into the sink, rinsing but not washing them. He came back and sat beside her again, taking her hand and sighing.
“It was a good day today,” he said and she nodded, putting her head on his shoulder.
“It was. I’m glad you bought that pasta maker.” He chuckled and she smiled as he hit the home button on his phone. “If only for that moment and that photo, it was worth every penny.”
They both laughed as he set the phone down and he squeezed her hand. Sighing, she yawned and closed her eyes with a smile.
“You’re a wonderful mother,” he whispered and she opened her eyes, watching his thumb rubbing her hand, as she remembered her words to him earlier in the day. “I know you know, but you should hear it more.”
“Thank you,” she whispered back, blinking away sudden tears. He hummed and kissed the top of her head, squeezing her hand again.
“I love you,” he whispered and she smiled.
“I love you too… flour face,” she said softly as she snuggled closer to him, his happy laughter filling her ears.
A New Adventure - Pt 12
Hey folks! I figured it was only fitting that this series get a chapter about Thanksgiving. Enjoy! (BTW, this one made me really excited to go and bake some stuff).
Thanksgiving
November has swept past and Thanksgiving is now only days away.
Right after Halloween, Arthur mentioned it. Of course, you knew that Thanksgiving has been celebrated in the US since the Civil War.
Curious about what it used to be like, you asked him how the gang celebrated the holiday.
Arthur just smiled and explained that the last Thanksgiving he had with the gang, he and John had gone out hunting for turkeys, managing to catch four of them.
Pearson had done his best to make an exemplary meal but, lacking a proper kitchen, he could only do so much. He’d made a hash along with some peach cobbler.
There had been roasted vegetables cooked with the turkeys.
Sean and Lenny snuck into town and stole some pies and desserts.
The night had ended with most of the gang getting trashed.
Arthur, chuckling at the memories, sombered up and asked you what Thanksgiving is like now.
Your smile faded. You haven’t had a Thanksgiving in years, thanks to not really having much of a family anymore.
The last one had been the last year your father was alive.
Arthur apologized and hugged you.
“Well, why don’t you and I do one? Just us?” he suggested.
You heartily agreed and were silently grateful you still had the recipes your mom used for this celebration.
The next shopping trip, you bought as many of the ingredients (and most importantly the turkey) as you could in order to get them before they were gone.
Arthur looked at the frozen turkey. You didn’t get a big one, just one of those packets of breast meat since there would only be two of you. He seemed a little put off.
When you asked him why, he said “Just don’t seem as satisfyin’. Buying a turkey from the store. I always caught ours back with the gang.”
You put your hands on his hips and kissed him. “Well, maybe next year, you can go turkey hunting. I’ll get you a license and everything.”
Arthur kissed you softly and thanked you, saying he’d like that.
As the weeks of November went by, the inevitable signs of Black Friday and Christmas were popping up. None of which excited you. In fact, nothing annoys you as much as Black Friday.
Arthur was seeing the ads too. He asked what Black Friday is.
“Black Friday is the day after Thanksgiving where, even though people just had this big feast to be grateful for everything they already have, they go insane and spend hundreds of dollars and stand in lines for hours on end while risking getting punched in the face so they can save twenty dollars on a $400 dollar item.”
“You serious?” he said, not hiding the ludicrousy from his voice.
“Yeah. It’s a bullshit holiday. I always just stay home and watch South Park’s rendition of Black Friday.”
Arthur said it shouldn’t really be classified as a holiday and you agree before telling him it’s just a US thing. Other countries don’t do it. Black Friday is the most undeniable form of capitalism that has ever existed.
Along with Black Friday comes the other signs of Christmas. Ads on Youtube playing holiday music and some people in your neighborhood have already put up lawn decorations.
You tell Arthur you don’t really like Christmas, not being religious yourself and not having a proper family. Then you tell Arthur you don’t wanna talk about Christmas because you hate the avaris of the whole thing and want to enjoy Thanksgiving properly this year since you finally have someone to spend it with.
He agreed, figuring you’d tell him about Christmas the closer it got.
Now that Thanksgiving is only days away, you’re getting excited. You’ve just pulled the turkey out to thaw ans Arthur comes up and kisses you.
You love whenever he does this, surprising you with his kisses.
The two of you have not slept together yet, and honestly you’re not quite sure you’re ready for that just yet. Soon probably, but not yet.
Arthur has not been pushy. In fact, he hasn’t even brought up sex or made any kind of advances.
“So, there any Thanksgivin’ movies you folks got?” he asks, figuring there must be as it seems there’s a movie for everything.
“Not really. Unless you count Garfield,” you say, referring to the cartoon cat.
Arthur wants to watch it as he enjoyed the Halloween episode of Garfield, so the two of you sit down.
Arthur pulls you into his lap while it plays. God, he is such a sweetheart. How can he go from being scary as hell to sweet as honey within seconds?
Thanksgiving day comes and you get up early in order to start making pie dough.
You don’t have to start the turkey until a couple of hours before eating, thanks to your trusty Instapot.
Just as you’re starting, Arthur comes into the kitchen, hitching his pants over his union suit.
You have to avert your eyes as his suit hugs his body in the right places, showing the firm muscles of his chest, arms and shoulders. He leans on the doorframe and watches you for a second. He really thinks you’re beautiful and he’s thankful every day for having ran into you.
After a moment, he joins your side. He wants to help you make dinner.
He’s pretty out of his element, rarely having cooked anything proper and never having baked.
Despite that, he’s helpful and eager to learn. You show him how to grind the ingredients together to make it into pie dough.
He tries his hand at it, but seems to struggle. You tell him to just add a little bit of cold water and a lot of elbow grease.
Finally the dough is ready, so you show him how to throw it into a ball and then roll it into a circle and then how to get it into the tin.
Arthur asks if it wouldn’t have been easier to get pre-made dough.
“Gah, no. That stuff is crap. Besides, for Thanksgiving you should make as much by hand as you can.”
Arthur is impressed. He didn’t think you knew how to make so much from scratch.
Arthur samples the pumpkin pie and he sighs audibly. You have to push him out of the way to stop him from dipping his finger into it for a second time so you can get it into the oven.
While the pie is cooking, you begin another batch of dough, but this one is different as it is meant to make rolls.
Arthur likes working with this dough much better as it’s more stretchy and doesn’t take as much pressing.
When you show him how to grab the dough and toss it hard on the table, he finds it particularly enjoyable. He really likes kneading it too, chuckling when you ask him if he likes it.
“There’s something to this,” he says. You agree that this dough is fun.
Finally the dough is ready to raise. The tricky thing about this recipe is it has to be raised three times, but you learned when you were young how to grow the yeast in order to make it rise quickly.
You and Arthur have about an hour to relax while the dough rises and the pie bakes.
Arthur suddenly pulls you close and suggests the two of you cuddle up on the couch and just watch something that isn’t going to require your commitance.
You blush heavily but agree. You love cuddling with Arthur. He’s warm and soft in just the right places.
He takes you into the living room and plops onto the couch before opening up his arms so you can climb onto him. You do so right after turning on some Netflix.
The second your cheek hits his chest, he starts combing his fingers through your hair.
The two of you watch the show for a bit but neither of you is really interested. You’re more distracted by your company.
You really just want to kiss him. Lately you’ve been thinking about what he might be like in the bed. Something tells you he might not be too bad, though perhaps a little inexperienced or ignorant. Sex ed nowadays is bad enough, it was even worse in his day.
His heart is pounding hard in your ear, and it’s faster than it usually is. Is he thinking along the same vein as you?
Before you can stop yourself, you look up at him and kiss him. He responds enthusiastically.
It isn’t long until you’re fully straddling him, your hands winding in his hair. His hands are gripping your hips almost painfully hard.
As you shift your thigh, you feel something below his belt pressing into your hip. It makes you blush but excites you when you realize what it is.
You stop kissing his lips and instead move down to his neck, sucking on his pressure point. He groans heavily.
Just as you’re about to start working at the buttons of his union suit, the timer for the pie goes off.
“Shit,” you whisper into his neck. He’s panting a bit beneath you.
If it weren’t Thanksgiving, you’d say fuck it and keep going with Arthur. But you want today to be special.
So you resolve yourself and get up, not looking at him as you go into the kitchen to pull out the pie.
You expect Arthur to be practically behind you, but he isn’t. Even when you go to the roll dough and pound it down for the second rise, he doesn’t come.
You blush again when you realize you left him half baked and he’s probably working on taking care of things.
Part of you wants to go and help him, but you know you really shouldn’t. Right now isn’t a good time. So you decide to just carry on with cooking and give him five minutes.
Before his time runs out, he strolls into the kitchen, a pink tinge to his cheeks.
“Sorry, darlin’. Didn’t mean to leave you with the work.”
“No, it’s fine. And I’m sorry too. Didn’t mean for things to get so far between us.”
He smiles a bit. “I’m not. That was… well, it was nice.”
You smile back a bit and return to the turkey, which sits mostly wrapped in the sink as you’re letting the juice run out.
Arthur gently pushes you aside and takes the turkey from you. He delicately strips it of its wrappings while you get out the spices.
When the meat sits inside the Instapot with all the spices and oils, Arthur takes a curious sniff. He hums appreciatively.
By the time the turkey’s set to cook, you find the roll dough is ready to be rolled out. So you show Arthur how to roll it out into a circle, how to cut the dough into crescent shapes.
After they’ve been rolled and buttered, you put them in your room, on your bed, and turn on your space heater and close the door.
By the time the rolls are set to go, you have to start making mashed potatoes and roasted vegetables.
The mashed potatoes are a tried and true recipe so they don’t take too much effort.
The vegetables are different as you’ve never done them before. But the spices make them smell good.
Once all the food is cooking to the point you don’t need to do anything, you and Arthur give the kitchen a quick clean and begin setting up the table.
Luckily you have your grandmother’s china (your mom didn’t want it). You’ve rarely used it as it’s only for special occasions.
Arthur inspects the china, noting the hand painted designs on the edges of the plates. He’s obviously impressed.
Finally everything is ready to be set out. You and Arthur sit down, but you feel a little awkward. It’s been so long since you had a proper Thanksgiving you’re not really sure what you should do. Should you say what you’re grateful for?
You look at Arthur questioningly and his face says he’s thinking of the same thing.
He clears his throat. “Darlin’, I know what I’m grateful for. I’m real thankful for havin’ run into you that day all them months ago. You saved my life and, well…” He blushes a bit and looks away. You’re blushing too.
He looks back at you, his eyes bright. “Darlin’, I love you.”
Your eyes widen. He loves you?
You huff a little and return his smile. “I love you too, Arthur. I’m most grateful this year for that day too. I wasn’t the only one who was saved that day.”
If you were close to him, you’d lean over and kiss him, but as you’re separated by the table, all you can do is reach your hand over and grab his.
He returns the gesture and squeezes yours.
Dinner turns out to be surprisingly good. Better than you’d hoped seeing as you haven’t cooked this much or this complicated in years, and some of the recipes were new to you. You even pulled out some of your good wine.
Arthur heavily enjoys the meal. He excitedly dives into having seconds.
After you’ve both gorged yourself, you and Arthur retreat to the couch again to wait out the guaranteed stupor that is to follow.
You’re embraced in his grasp like before, but you don’t end up in a make out session. In fact, your mind doesn’t even wander into the direction of anything sexual.
For the next two or so hours, you both slip in and out of your sleepy states while watching Netflix.
Arthur likes brushing your hair. He’d never say it out loud, but he loves the way your body feels pressed against his.
He’s not thinking about sex either as he realizes this. You just feel comforting and warm.
By the time the sun has properly set, you and Arthur go into the kitchen again and pull out the pumpkin pie.
“Oh, I’ve been excited for this,” Arthur admits eagerly.
You giggle as you lay on the whipped cream.
The pie turns out to be just as good as the dinner.
On his last bite, Arthur comes up to you, puts his hands on your hips and kisses you.
You can taste the pie and cream on his lips, but you enjoy it.
As you kiss him, you wonder where your next steps in your relationship will take you. Unsurprisingly, you’re excited to find out.
Sex Toy Advent Calendar: Day 5: Clearly Weird Lube
Fandom: HTTYD
Rating: M
Pairing: Hiccup/Astrid
Words: 2325
Read on AO3
Summary: Day 5 of the Sex Toy Advent Calendar. Today's gift leaves a lot to be desired. Just good that Hiccup is good at improvising.
AN: This one... I don't even know. *scratches head* They did most of it on their own?
. o O o .
With curiosity and anticipation tingling in her belly, Astrid waited for Hiccup to pull out the box of the day from their calendar. It was yet again a black box with the golden number ‘5’ printed on the side. What made this one exciting, though, was the fact that it was the biggest box they’d had so far. And even though she knew that size didn’t matter… much… she was still burning with excitement. Initially, she’d thought little of this calendar, had only seen it as an expensive joke. But after the last few days, her expectations were rather high. She only had to work a few hours in the morning today, and then they were both free to enjoy today’s gift for hours.
“Come on, Hiccup, don’t keep me in suspense here,” she demanded, bouncing impatiently. “What is it?”
“Oh, now I’m not supposed to do that?” He had a teasing glint in his eyes, and Astrid groaned.
“You know exactly what I mean! You can suspend me like that whenever you want. As long as you finally open this box and show me what's inside!”
Chuckling, he complied. “All right, all right, let’s have a look. It’s pretty heavy in comparison. I wonder… Oh.” A slight frown appeared on his forehead.
“Hiccup!”
“Yeah, I know, I know. No suspense.” He let the box’s content roll into his large hand, a plastic bottle with some clear gel inside. “It’s… it looks like… lube?”
“Lube?” Puzzled, Astrid took the bottle and inspected it. “You’re right. It’s really lube. Heh… I wouldn’t have thought lube counts as a sex toy, though. More like… essential equipment for comfortable sex?”
Thoughtfully, Hiccup nodded. “Agreed. Although, this seems to be some special lube. What does it say on the label?”
Astrid took another look at the bottle, and couldn’t hold back a snort. “Oh, yeah. Special lube, all right…” She held the bottle out for him to read the label, too. “Special fragrance, fitting for the season. Backed Apple.”
Hiccup’s nose twitched. “For real? Okay… erm. Weird! But, hey. It’s free lube. What are we going to do with it?”
Throwing him a bemused glance, Astrid opened the bottle and raised it to her nose. “Well, I can always peg you if you feel up to—Ew!” Grimacing, she held the bottle away from her. “Yeah, no, not when you smell like that though. Esh, that’s some penetrative stench.”
With a slight frown, Hiccup took the bottle and sniffed it, too, but only to grimace and firmly close the lid a moment later. “Oh, that’s horrible,” he agreed, shuddering. “Have these people ever smelled baked apples? How… how…” He looked baffled, and honestly, Astrid felt the same.
“Can lube turn bad?”
Hiccup shrugged. “Possible? That would at least be an explanation.” He placed the bottle onto a sideboard and threw it a disdainful look.
“Yeah… Disappointing, though.” Astrid’s shoulders slumped. “Not that we can’t entertain ourselves without these toys, but…”
“I know what you mean. It’s not quite the same.”
After throwing the bottle of awfully smelling lube into the waste bin, they ate breakfast. Sulking, Astrid shovelled porridge into her mouth, and the fact that it was poorly flavoured as apple and cinnamon didn’t exactly help to improve her mood. “It’s ridiculous,” she exclaimed a few minutes later. “Even this porridge is out to annoy me now.”
Cocking his head, Hiccup’s eyes brightened. ”I might have an idea.”
. o O o .
By the time Astrid had finished her work for that day, her mood had calmed down—but not yet improved. It was ridiculous. It shouldn’t matter. She and Hiccup were together for so long now, not knowing what to do with a free afternoon definitely was not a disaster. They could make a video game contest, or maybe there even was some interesting film in the cinema. Or, if it truly was the sex she’d expected, then they had enough toys and options to choose from. They could simply use their usual lube instead and see where it led them.
But that just wasn’t the same… Damn anticipation!
Sighing in annoyance at herself, she let herself into their flat—and paused right there in the doorway. That scent… was that…?
“Ah, perfect timing.” Hiccup greeted her with a warm smile and a peck to the corner of her mouth. “It should be done in a matter of minutes now.”
“What do you mean?” she asked, but didn’t really need an answer. The scent that wafted to her nose the moment she left the entrance room was telling enough and made her mouth water. “Did you seriously make baked apples?”
With a small smile, Hiccup shook his head. “Not quite. I was thinking about it, but since I had enough time today…” He trailed off as they entered the kitchen, just as the oven made a demanding beep.
Astrid’s eyes went wide, her lips splitting into a huge grin. “You made apple pie?”
“My Grandma’s recipe,” he confirmed. “I thought it would be a good way to make up for the disappointment this morning.”
“Mmm, perfect!” She stretched to give him a quick kiss. “And you are, too.”
The cake was indeed perfect, but Astrid had no genuine doubts about that, anyway. Hiccup’s cooking skills were amazing, and he was passionate about his baking as well; which was something Astrid happily and regularly indulged in.
After eating a couple of slices each, they were both too full to even think about eating dinner anytime soon. Or doing anything else, really.
With a satisfied groan, Astrid leaned back in her chair. “That truly was a fantastic compensation for the Baked Apple disaster this morning. Kudos to you for coming up with an equally pleasant alternative.”
Hiccup snorted. “What? Are you trying to say that my cake is just as bad as that lube? Wow… and here I thought, you’d enjoyed the cake.”
“Noooo!” She threw a small piece of leftover cake at him; barely more than a crumb, really, and it didn’t even reach him. “Muttonhead. I meant that I’m too full for sex now. And I don’t even regret it. Much.”
“So, you’re saying that my cake was as good as sex?” He took a moment to exaggeratedly think about her words, bis long finger tipping against his chin almost comically. “Okay, that’s something I can live with.”
Laughing at her dorky, wonderful boyfriend, she stood up to carry their dishes to the kitchen, stealing a kiss from him on her way.
“How about we get comfortable on the couch and watch a movie or two?” she called back to him. “I think that would be a great way to wrap this day up.”
Hiccup agreed, and they moved to settle comfortably on the couch.
“Do you want to take your prosthetic off?” Astrid asked before she sat down.
Hiccup looked thoughtful for a moment and then nodded. “Yeah, I think that would be better. Could you get my crutches from the bedroom?”
She did as asked and placed the crutches in their usual spot next to the couch, within easy reach. There was no need for her to offer that she would help him, too, if he needed to get up. Hiccup knew and appreciated that, and regularly relied on her help already if his amputation site acted up on a bad day. But he preferred to be independent if possible, and Astrid respected that.
A little while later, they both sat on their couch, comfortable side by side and wrapped in a soft blanket. They'd put glasses, a bottle of water, and even a bag of chocolate-covered nuts on the low table in front of them—in case they got hungry later. But for the moment, they were both happy to just let the cake settle.
Even though the film, Pirates of the Caribbean, was one of her favourites, it didn’t take long until her full stomach made Astrid sleepy. At first, she only leaned against Hiccup's shoulder and enjoyed the cosy comfort of his arm around her shoulders. Too often, life got so hectic lately, so moments like these were precious to her. However, even sitting became too demanding after a while, and she shifted until her head rested in his lap, humming as he absentmindedly caressed her hair.
She must have fallen asleep like this. The next thing she remembered, the film had jumped to a point much later in the story, and outside, the sky had turned from dull grey to black. Groaning, she shifted into another position, intent on making herself comfortable again, when a familiar hand on her shoulder shook her awake again.
“Astrid? I’m sorry, but I need to get up.”
Accepting the inevitable, she let him move. She cracked one eye open to make sure he could reach his crutches, but then quickly drifted off again, the low noises coming from the TV lulling her in quickly. She barely noticed how Hiccup came back, only heard his quiet chuckling before he crawled onto the couch behind her.
The next time she awoke, it was to Captain Jack Sparrow and Bootstrap Bill talking to each other. Had Hiccup put on the second movie? Had she slept through the first one entirely?
With a sleepy moan, she shifted around until she could look up at Hiccup. He lay behind her, propped up on one arm and the other loosely around her waist. He was watching her now, eyes soft with fatigue.
“Hey, there. Had a good nap?”
She nodded, humming. “Looks like I needed that.”
He accepted her words without comment. In fact, he didn’t react at all and simply watched her, his gaze so intense as if he was looking deep inside her, not just at her eyes but at her soul as well. It made her feel warm, cradled, cherished, as if there was nothing in the entire world that mattered except being here at this moment, together. She acted without thinking, turned her head and stretched a little, breached the small distance between them until their lips met.
It was a slow kiss. Just lips moving together, melting, searching. It was simple but so good, sensual and meaningful. When she reached for him to pull him closer, the stubble on his jaw were rough against her palm, making her shiver. He wa so… so real. Everything about him, his warmth seeping into her body, his hand on her waist drawing her toward him, his breath ghosting across her skin, it was so intense. Irresistible. She wanted for this moment to never end, to keep kissing Hiccup and feeling him so close for the rest of eternity.
And for a while, her wish was granted. Time lost all meaning as they kissed, their bodies moving as one. Shifting, turning, grinding; even sleepy as they were, they always knew what the other wanted and followed their motions. Hiccup's fingers combed through her long golden tresses, his fingernails dragging across her scalp and making her tremble. Her own hands wandered over his back beneath his shirt, exploring his shoulders, the scars from his accident, and every single ridge of his spine down to his rear.
She loved how he ground against her, the motions so strong and natural and reaching so deep despite the clothes that still separated them. It was wonderful, knowing bodies nearly working on their own to bring each other to completion.
Her orgasm was building slowly, and when she came, it surprised even herself. Her muscles seizing deep inside her belly made her spasm beneath him. She mewled, and her fingers dug deep into his flesh as her grip on his backside grew firmer, holding him close. Her still sleepy mind went blissfully empty as pleasure surged through her in one powerful wave, and she barely registered how Hiccup’s arms shook at her side or how he muffled his groan against her neck.
When he rolled off her to lie next to her again, Astrid shifted too until she faced him. “Mmm, I liked that,” she murmured, then chuckled. “But so much for a day without sex.”
Hiccup snorted. He sounded as tired as she felt, his eyes closed and a lazy smile on his face. “Is that a complaint I’m hearing there? About too much sex? From you?”
Now, she laughed for real, low but true. “No, definitely no complaints here.” She burrowed against his chest and deeply inhaled his scent, leather, fire, and sandalwood. Home.
“Aye. I didn’t think so.”
His arms closed around her, holding her, and they both basked in this moment of sleepy closeness, vulnerable but safe. Astrid was close to drifting off into sleep again when Hiccup stirred once more.
“Mh? What’s up, babe?” she asked sleepily.
“I need the bathroom.”
“Again?” She lifted her head, again reflexively looking for his walking aids.
He chuckled. “Yeah, well… I made a bit of a mess of my boxers, and I need to clean that up before I fall asleep.”
Astrid blinked, then giggled. “Ah, right.” She sat up and rubbed at her eyes. “Do you need my help?”
He paused, considering her offer, but then shook his head. “No, I’m good. But we should move over to the bed, it’s more comfortable than spending the entire night here on the couch.”
Grudgingly, she had to admit that Hiccup was right. She waited until she heard him leave the bathroom, then went there herself to use the loo and brush her teeth. After retrieving Hiccup’s prosthetic from the living room for the next morning, she happily crawled into bed next to him. And as she was about to fall asleep for real, she thought that maybe today’s gift from their advent calendar hadn’t been that much of a failure after all. If nothing else, it at least had served as a reminder that they didn’t need extravagant toys or accessories to be happy.
